RESUMO

Mango (Mangiferra indica L), guava (Psiduim guajava L.) slices and aonla (Emblica officinalis L) segments were osmo-dried under four different dying conditions viz., cabinet drier (CD), vacuum oven drier (VOD), low temperature drier (LTD) and solar drier (SD) to evaluate the best drying condition for the fruits. It was found that vacuum oven drying was superior to other mode of drying as it holds maximum nutrients like acidity, ascorbic acid, sugar and water removal and moisture ratio of products. It was found through regression analysis that drying ratio and rehydration ratio was also superior in vacuum drying followed by cabinet drying. In addition, descriptive analysis on sensory score was also found best with vacuum drying while the Non-enzymatic browning (NEB), which is undesirable character on dried product, was more with solar drier.

α-Fe(2)O(3) nanofibers are synthesized by a simple and efficient electrospinning method and the selective determination of folic acid (FA) is demonstrated in the presence of an important physiological interferent, ascorbic acid (AA), using the α-Fe(2)O(3) nanofiber modified glassy carbon (GC) electrode at physiological pH. Bare GC electrode fails to determine the concentration of FA in the presence of a higher concentration of AA due to the surface fouling caused by the oxidized products of AA and FA. However, modification with α-Fe(2)O(3) nanofibers not only separates the voltammetric signals of AA and FA by 420 mV between AA and FA, but also enhances higher oxidation current. The amperometric current response is linearly dependent on FA concentration in the range of 60-60,000 nM, and the α-Fe(2)O(3) nanofiber modified electrode displayed an excellent sensitivity for FA detection with an experimental detection limit of 60 nM (1.12 × 10(-10) M (S/N = 3)). Furthermore, the α-Fe(2)O(3) nanofiber modified electrode showed an admirable selectivity towards the determination of FA even in the presence of a 1000-fold excess of AA and other common interferents. This modified electrode has been successfully applied for determination of FA in human blood serum samples.

In the present investigation Thalassospira frigidphilosprofundus, a novel species from the deep waters of the Bay of Bengal, was explored for the production of cold-active ß-galactosidase by submerged fermentation using marine broth medium as the basal medium. Effects of various medium constituents, namely, carbon, nitrogen source, pH, and temperature, were investigated using a conventional one-factor-at-a-time method. It was found that lactose, yeast extract, and bactopeptones are the most influential components for ß-galactosidase production. Under optimal conditions, the production of ß-galactosidase was found to be 3,864 U/mL at 20 ± 2°C, pH 6.5 ± 0.2, after 48 hr of incubation. ß-Galactosidase production was further optimized by the Taguchi orthogonal array design of experiments and the central composite rotatable design (CCRD) of response surface methodology. Under optimal experimental conditions the cold-active ß-galactosidase enzyme production from Thalassospira frigidphilosprofundus was enhanced from 3,864 U/mL to 10,657 U/mL, which is almost three times higher than the cold-active ß-galactosidase production from the well-reported psychrophile Pseudoalteromonas haloplanktis.

Introduction Evidence suggests that oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) are linked to increased possibilities of malignant transformation, creating a challenging situation. If oral cancer is detected early, the prognosis is better. The purpose of this study was to compare the serum levels of urea, uric acid (UA), and creatine kinase in patients with provisionally diagnosed and histopathologically confirmed cases of potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer to those of age- and sex-matched healthy controls. Materials and methods Eighty patients over the age of 18 with a clinical diagnosis of oral potentially malignant disorder (OPMD) or oral cancer and verified histopathology were included in the research. Using the kinetic methodology, the enzymatic colorimetric method, and the UV-kinetic approach, respectively, the serum concentrations of urea, uric acid, and creatine kinase were quantified in vitro following the venipuncture of 2 mL of venous blood. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20 (IBM SPSS Statistics, Armonk, NY, USA) was used for the statistical analysis. Results Comparing OPMD and oral cancer patients to healthy controls, serum urea levels were found to be greater, uric acid levels to be lower, and creatine kinase levels to be higher. Conclusion Prognostic markers for OPMDs and oral cancer may include urea, uric acid, and creatine kinase. However, this may be accomplished by large-scale prospective research.

The majority of the Earth's ecosystem is frigid and frozen, which permits a vast range of microbial life forms to thrive by triggering physiological responses that allow them to survive in cold and frozen settings. The apparent biotechnology value of these cold-adapted enzymes has been targeted. Enzymes' market size was around USD 6.3 billion in 2017 and will witness growth at around 6.8% CAGR up to 2024 owing to shifting consumer preferences towards packaged and processed foods due to the rising awareness pertaining to food safety and security reported by Global Market Insights (Report ID-GMI 743). Various firms are looking for innovative psychrophilic enzymes in order to construct more effective biochemical pathways with shorter reaction times, use less energy, and are ecologically acceptable. D-Galactosidase catalyzes the hydrolysis of the glycosidic oxygen link between the terminal non-reducing D-galactoside unit and the glycoside molecule. At refrigerated temperature, the stable structure of psychrophile enzymes adjusts for the reduced kinetic energy. It may be beneficial in a wide variety of activities such as pasteurization of food, conversion of biomass, biological role of biomolecules, ambient biosensors, and phytoremediation. Recently, psychrophile enzymes are also used in claning the contact lens. ß-D-Galactosidases have been identified and extracted from yeasts, fungi, bacteria, and plants. Conventional (hydrolyzing activity) and nonconventional (non-hydrolytic activity) applications are available for these enzymes due to its transgalactosylation activity which produce high value-added oligosaccharides. This review content will offer new perspectives on cold-active ß-galactosidases, their source, structure, stability, and application.

The surge of the novel COVID-19 caused a tremendous effect on the health and life of the people resulting in more than 4.4 million confirmed cases in 213 countries of the world as of May 14, 2020. In India, the number of cases is constantly increasing since the first case reported on January 30, 2020, resulting in a total of 81,997 cases including 2649 deaths as of May 14, 2020. To assist the government and healthcare sector in preventing the transmission of disease, it is necessary to predict the future confirmed cases. To predict the dynamics of COVID-19 cases, in this paper, we project the forecast of COVID-19 for five most affected states of India such as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh using the real-time data. Using Holt-Winters method, a forecast of the number of confirmed cases in these states has been generated. Further, the performance of the method has been determined using RMSE, MSE, MAPE, MAE and compared with other standard algorithms. The analysis shows that the proposed Holt-Winters model generates RMSE value of 76.0, 338.4, 141.5, 425.9, 1991.5 for Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi and Tamil Nadu, which results in more accurate predictions over Holt's Linear, Auto-regression (AR), Moving Average (MA) and Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model. These estimations may further assist the government in employing strong policies and strategies for enhancing healthcare support all over India.

Understanding the spatial spreading patterns of plant-available sulphur (S) (AS) and plant-available micronutrients (available zinc (AZn), available iron (AFe), available copper (ACu), available manganese (AMn) and available boron (AB)) in soils, especially in coastal agricultural soils subjected to various natural and anthropogenic activities, is vital for sustainable crop production by adopting site-specific nutrient management (SSNM) strategies. We studied the spatial distribution patterns of AS, AZn, AFe, ACu, AMn, and AB in cultivated soils of coastal districts of India using geostatistical approaches. Altogether 39,097 soil samples from surface (0 to 15 cm depth) layers were gathered from farm lands of 68 coastal districts. The analysis of soil samples was carried out for soil pH, electrical conductivity (EC), soil organic carbon (SOC) and AS, AZn, AFe, ACu, AMn, and AB. Soil pH, EC and SOC varied from 3.70 to 9.90, 0.01 to 7.45 dS m-1 and 0.02 to 3.74%, respectively. The concentrations of AS, AZn, AFe, ACu, AMn, and AB varied widely in the study area with their corresponding mean values were 37.4±29.4, 1.50±1.53, 27.9±35.1, 2.14±1.74, 16.9±18.4 and 1.34±1.52 mg kg-1, respectively. The coefficient of variation values of analyzed soil parameters varied from 14.6 to 126%. The concentrations of AS, AZn, AFe, ACu, AMn, and AB were negatively and significantly correlated with soil pH and positively and significantly correlated with SOC. The geostatistical analysis indicated stable, Gaussian and exponential best-fit semivariogram models with moderate to strong spatial dependence for available nutrients. The generated spatial spreading maps revealed different distribution patterns for AS, AZn, AFe, ACu, AMn, and AB. There were variations in spatial spreading patterns of AS, AZn, AFe, ACu, AMn, and AB in east- and west-coastal area. About 62, 35, 12, 0.4, 23 and 45% of the study area had deficiency of AS, AZn, AFe, ACu, AMn, and AB, respectively. The spatial spreading maps will be highly useful for SSNM in the cultivated coastal soils of the country. This study could also be used as a base for assessing spatial spreading patterns of soil parameters in cultivated coastal areas of other parts of the world.

The treatment and prognosis of teeth with crown root fracture are dictated solely by the extent of the fracture line. Vertical tooth fracture, a variant of crown root fracture, presents serious complications in management because of the extent of the fracture line to the full vertical length of the tooth. It is invariably followed by extraction of the entire or a segment of the tooth. Literature recommends various treatment possibilities for vertical tooth fracture, yet no predictable protocol with a long-term prognosis has been described. This case report details a multidisciplinary approach towards reunion of the fractured fragments of maxillary I premolar by providing interfragmentary compression with the use of a miniaturized lag screw.

The dispersion of electron-deficient ferrocenium ions was studied in the electron-rich media of two different triphenylene-based columnar hexagonal liquid-crystalline phases. These composites were characterized using polarizing optical micrography (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), visible absorption spectroscopy, and dc and ac conductivity measurements. It was found that these composites form donor-acceptor systems that enhance the quasi-one-dimensional conductivity of the discotic system without altering the hexagonal columnar mesophase. The absorbance spectra confirm the formation of a charge-transfer complex between the electron-rich discotic molecules and the electron-deficient ferrocenium ions.

Gold nanoparticles fully covered with triphenylene-based discotic liquid crystals (DLCs) were synthesized and dispersed in a columnar matrix. The thermophysical properties of these nanocomposites, studied using polarizing optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and small angle X-ray diffraction studies (SAXS), confirm their insertion into the columnar matrix. The presence of the gold nanoparticles in the triphenylene-based DLCs does not disturb the nature of the mesophase other than altering the transition temperatures. We propose that the gold nanoparticles are distributed between the domain gaps of the DLCs in random disordered manner. Interestingly the DC conductivity measurements show an enhancement of the electrical conductivity by more than a million times upon doping of the discotic liquid crystals with the triphenylene-capped nanoparticles under ambient conditions.

The effect of chloroform soluble fraction (F-A) of twigs of Sarcostemma brevistigma on contractions induced by KCl, histamine, and acetylcholine in the isolated guinea pig ileum and taenia coli smooth muscles has been evaluated. F-A (19.5 microg/ml) significantly inhibited the contraction induced by 40 mM KCl to the extent of 87.6% in the isolated guinea pig ileum. In the isolated guinea pig ileum, F-A (64.3 and 59.2 microg/ml) significantly inhibited the contractions induced by acetylcholine and histamine to the extent of 85 and 83% respectively. In the isolated guinea pig taenia coli, F-A (65.2 microg/ml) significantly inhibited the contraction induced by 40 mM KCl to the extent of 96.0%. The inhibitory effect of F-A (40 microg/ml) on the isolated guinea pig taenia coli was reduced by Bay K 8644 (10(-6) M) to the extent of 61.6 from 73.6%. These results suggest that the F-A may exhibit smooth muscle relaxant activity by blocking the Ca2+ channels.

We report on the facile electrodeposition of copper nanostructures on graphite lead substrate using anionic, cationic and non-ionic surfactant templates. Physical and electrochemical characterisation confirmed the influence of templates on the morphology and electrochemical catalytic activities of the copper electrodeposits. These electrodes were shown to be excellent electrocatalyst for the fast detection of hydrogen peroxide. A maximum sensitivity of 951.45µA/mM/cm2, LOD of 0.43µM, response time of <1s and a linearity in wide range of concentration from 1µM to 5mM were observed when sodium dodecyl sulfate was used as the template. While most of the previously reported sensors have advantages either on the facile synthesis or fast detection of analyte, our methodology enables preparation of the electrode within 120s and analysis within another 60s without any complicated procedure, thereby demonstrating one of the fastest and cost-effective method for hydrogen peroxide analysis with high sensitivity and selectivity.

The present work demonstrates the superhydrophobic and Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) active substrate performance of silver coated copper oxide (Ag@CuO) nanostructured thin films prepared by the SILAR process. Super hydrophobic substrates that combine super hydrophobic condensation effect and high enhancement ability of Ag@CuO nanoflowers are investigated for SERS studies. The possible growth mechanism for the formation of nanoflower arrays from nanospindles has been discussed. Morphology and crystallinity of the Ag@CuO thin films are confirmed using FESEM and XRD. The results obtained in the present study indicate that the as-deposited hydrophobic nanospindles structure converts to super hydrophobic nanoflower arrays on annealing at 200°C. The Ag@CuO super hydrophobic nanoflowers thin film based SERS substrates show highly enhanced Raman spectra with an EF value of 2.0×10(7) for (Rhodamine 6G) R6G, allowing a detection limit from a 10(-10)molL(-1) solution. The present study may provide a new perception in fabricating efficient super hydrophobic substrates for SERS, suggesting that the fabricated substrates are promising candidates for trace analysis of R6G dye and are expected to be widely used as highly sensitive SERS active substrates for various toxic dyes in the future.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a group of idiopathic disorders characterized by proliferation of bone marrow derived Langerhans cells and mature eosinophils. Their clinical features simulate common oral findings such as gingival enlargement, oral ulcers, and mobility of teeth, along with nonspecific radiographic features; hence, diagnosing such lesions becomes difficult for the oral physicians. These lesions are commonly seen in childhood; however, we are reporting a case of LCH in 29-year-old adult male. A provisional diagnosis of giant cell granuloma was considered based on history and examination, although the lesion was histologically proven to be LCH and was confirmed with immunohistochemical staining of S100 protein and CD1a antigen. The purpose of this paper is to enhance the understanding of diverse, nonpathognomical oral presentation of LCH that is easily misdiagnosed and overlooked by dentist.

We report the formation and extraordinary Li-storage properties of TiO2 hollow nanofibers by co-axial electrospinning in both the half-cell and full-cell configurations. Li-insertion properties are first evaluated as anodes in the half-cell configuration (Li/TiO2 hollow nanofibers) and we found that reversible insertion of ~0.45 moles is feasible at a current density of 100 mA g(-1). The half-cell displayed a good cyclability and retained 84% of its initial reversible capacity after 300 galvanostatic cycles. The full-cell is fabricated with a commercially available olivine phase LiFePO4 cathode under optimized mass loading. The LiFePO4/TiO2 hollow nanofiber cell delivered a reversible capacity of 103 mA h g(-1) at a current density of 100 mA g(-1) with an operating potential of ~1.4 V. Excellent cyclability is noted for the full-cell configuration, irrespective of the applied current densities, and it retained 88% of reversible capacity after 300 cycles in ambient conditions at a current density of 100 mA g(-1).

Internal resorption has been described as a resorptive defect of internal aspect of tooth. It is caused by transformation of normal pulp tissue into granulomatous tissue with giant cells which resorb dentin. Though mostly idiopathic in origin, trauma, caries and restorative procedures have also been suggested to be contributing factors of internal resorption of pulp. Most of the internal resorption cases were found on isolated individual tooth. There are few case reports on multiple root resorptions. External root resorption have been frequently associated with systemic disorders like renal diseases hyperparathyroidism, rickets etc. A rare association of multiple internal resorption of permanent teeth (including lateral incisors, canines, premolars, sparing 2 nd and 3 rd. Permanent molars and missing 35,36, 42) with elevated levels of PTH and uric acid was evident in a 28 year old female patient who presented with fracture of crowns of permanent teeth. Though many cases related to dental manifestations of chronic renal disease and internal resorption of permanent teeth have been documented in literature, there is no evidence on association of hyperparathyroidism with multiple internal resorptions of teeth.

We have studied the electron-transfer properties of some redox systems on a gold electrode in a lyotropic hexagonal columnar liquid crystalline phase (H1 phase) using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The liquid crystalline medium consists of the nonionic surfactant Triton X-100 and water. The redox reactions that have been studied are ferrocene/ferricenium, [Fe(CN)6]3-/4-, and [Ru(NH3)6]3+/2+. We have confirmed by polarizing optical microscopy that the liquid crystalline nature of the medium is maintained even after the addition of the redox species and the supporting electrolyte. The CV studies show a significant shift in the half-peak potentials of these redox reactions in the liquid crystalline medium. From the EIS studies, we have measured the diffusion coefficients and the kinetic parameters for the redox species. These results are discussed and compared with the values obtained in the conventional solvent medium. The CV and impedance studies demonstrate that the hexagonal columnar phase provides a novel controlled environment for the study of electron-transfer reactions in biological and physiological media.

A new method of forming stable dispersions of alkanethiol and aromatic thiol stabilized gold nanoparticles in two different lyotropic liquid crystalline mediums, namely, a columnar hexagonal phase made up of a Triton X-100/water system and an inverse columnar hexagonal phase made up of pure AOT, are presented. The dispersions have been characterized using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and polarizing optical microscopy. Our studies show that the gold nanoparticles are distributed outside the columns formed by both the surfactants. Such dispersions can find applications in the study of nanoparticles as well as in the development of devices based on some unique properties of metal nanoparticles.
