RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the safety and efficacy of troxatabine in advanced or relapsed malignant tumors resistant to standard therapy in China. Methods: This is a phase Ⅰ prospective study. During dose escalation, patients in Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences received a single-dose intravenous infusion of troxacitabine. The planned dosing groups were 1.8, 3.6, 4.8, 6.4 and 8.0 mg/m(2) on days 1 and 8 every 3 weeks. The data of all patients were collected for safety analyses. Safety and tolerability were evaluated by monitoring adverse events. Results: Nineteen patients were enrolled from April 2018 to May 2019. The major adverse events were fatigue (89.5%, 17/19), leukopenia (84.2%, 16/19) and neutropenia (78.9%, 15/19). The dose limiting toxicity was neutropenia. The maximum tolerated dose was 6.4 mg/m(2). The best effect was stable disease (43.8%). The half-life of elimination phase from 15.91 hours to 76.63 hours in each dose group. Conclusions: The toxicity of troxacitabine is well tolerant. We recommend that the dose for Phase Ⅱ clinical trial should be 6.4 mg/m(2).

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the oncological outcomes of active surveillance (AS) in patients showing thyroid nodules measuring≤1 cm with highly suspicious ultrasound features. Methods: A prospective single-center cohort study. A total of 534 patients with highly suspicious thyroid nodules (2015 American Thyroid Association Nodule Sonographic Patterns and Risk of Malignancy: High Suspicion) were enrolled in this study, the patients received AS at Peking Union Medical College Hospital between January 2017 and November 2022 to assess oncological outcomes (disease progression, recurrence/metastasis rate, etc). The patients were followed up every 6 months for physical examination and neck ultrasound examination. And the value of tumor volume changes in evaluating tumor enlargement was explored too. Results: There were 413 females and 121 males in this cohort, with a mean age of (42.6±11.8) years. During a median follow-up period of 45.6 months (ranged from 3.5 to 176.0 months), disease progression occurred in 26 patients (4.9%) with highly suspicious thyroid nodules, characterized by a minimum 3-mm increase in tumor diameter in 19 patients (3.6%) and lymph node metastases in 7 patients (1.3%). Forty-seven (8.8%) patients opted for delayed surgery, with 29 patients due to a change in preference. There was no significant differences in pathologic and follow-up outcomes between patients with disease progression and preference change. Patients aged≤40 years had a higher cumulative incidence of 5-year disease progression than those aged>40 years (4.9% vs 1.9%, P=0.060). No patients experienced distant metastases or deaths. Among the 595 high-risk thyroid nodules with continuous volume assessment results and an increase in nodule diameter of less than 3 mm (including all high-risk nodules in patients with single or multiple nodules), 184 (30.9%) and 79 (13.3%) nodules exhibited volume increases of more than 50% and 100%, respectively, in multiple measurements. Among the nodules with volume changes exceeding 50% and 100%, the proportion of nodules with a baseline tumor diameter of≤0.5 cm was significantly higher than those with a diameter of>0.5 cm, at 69.0% vs 31.0% (P<0.001) and 77.2% vs 22.8% (P<0.001), respectively. Conclusions: Active surveillance in patients with highly suspicious subcentimeter thyroid nodules has good short-term oncological outcomes and can be considered a safe alternative to surgery. Due to the large variability in the measurement results of tumor volume, it is not suitable as an indicator for evaluating tumor enlargement.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological features of pulmonary granular cell tumors (pGCTs) and to improve the diagnostic accuracy of the tumor. Methods: A total of 5 pGCTs were diagnosed from February 2016 to January 2022 at Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine and Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, China. Immunohistochemical staining, and analysis of the clinicopathological characteristics were performed. Results: The average age of the pGCTs patients was 46 years (ranging from 24 to 54 years), with 3 females and 2 males. One case occurred in the bronchus with multiple nodules in the lung, 2 cases occurred in the bronchial opening, and 2 cases were solitary nodules in the lung. The maximum diameter of the tumors ranged from 12 to 15 mm (mean size 14 mm). Microscopically, the tumor showed infiltrative growth and consisted of round, oval or polygonal cells. Abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm was noted, and the nucleoli were prominent. None of the 5 cases showed any mitosis or necrosis. Immunohistochemical and histochemical study showed positive staining for S-100 (5/5), SOX10 (5/5), Vimentin (5/5), TFE3 (4/5), PAS (3/5), and amylase-digested-PAS (3/5), while 4 cases were negative for CD68. TFE3 FISH analyses on 2 cases showed that no signal abnormality was detected in these 2 cases. The average proliferation index of Ki-67 was 2.2% (range 0-5%). There was no recurrence in 4 cases of pGCTs with a follow-up time ranging from 2 months to 60 months. Conclusions: pGCTs are very rare tumors, most likely originating from Schwann cells. Immunohistochemical staining is the conventional diagnostic tool for pGCTs diagnosis. Recognition of this entity is essential for pathologists to avoid misdiagnosis and unnecessary treatments.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Tinea capitis is still common in developing countries, such as China. Its pathogen spectrum varies across regions and changes over time. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to clarify the current epidemiological characteristics and pathogen spectrum of tinea capitis in China. METHODS: A multicentre, prospective descriptive study involving 29 tertiary hospitals in China was conducted. From August 2019 to July 2020, 611 patients with tinea capitis were enrolled. Data concerning demography, risk factors and fungal tests were collected. When necessary, the pathogens were further identified by morphology or molecular sequencing in the central laboratory. RESULTS: Among all enrolled patients, 74·1% of the cases were in patients aged 2-8 years. The children with tinea capitis were mainly boys (56·2%) and were more likely than adults to have a history of animal contact (57·4% vs. 35·3%, P = 0·012) and zoophilic dermatophyte infection (73·5% vs. 47%). The adults were mainly female (83%) and were more likely than children to have anthropophilic agent infection (53% vs. 23·9%). The most common pathogen was zoophilic Microsporum canis (354, 65·2%), followed by anthropophilic Trichophyton violaceum (74, 13·6%). In contrast to the eastern, western and northeastern regions, where zoophilic M. canis predominated, anthropophilic T. violaceum predominated in central China (69%, P < 0·001), where the patients had the most tinea at other sites (20%) and dermatophytosis contact (26%) but the least animal contact (39%). Microsporum ferrugineum was the most common anthropophilic agent in the western area, especially in Xinjiang province. CONCLUSIONS: Boys aged approximately 5 years were the most commonly affected group. Dermatologists are advised to pay more attention to the different transmission routes and pathogen spectra in different age groups from different regions.

RESUMO

Objective: To explore the effect of metformin combined with intermittent fasting on endoplasmic reticulum stress after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury in mice. Methods: One hundred 10-Week-old healthy KM mice of SPF grade, weighing 25-28 g, were divided into 5 groups by the random number table method: sham group, focal cerebral ischemia group (I/R group), intermittent fasting group (IF group), metformin group (Met group), metformin+intermittent fasting group (Met+IF group). In IF group, food was provided ad libitum from 8∶00 to 16∶00 daily, but the mice were fasted for the rest of the time. In Met group, the mice underwent intraperitoneal injection of metformin (10 mg/kg). In Met+IF group, the mice received the same eating method as the IF group and the same method of metformin injection as Met Group. In Sham group, I/R group and IF group, the mice were intraperitoneally injected with equal volume of normal saline. Mice in all groups were not restricted to drinking water. Random plasma glucose and body weight changes in mice during preconditioning were monitored, and a focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion model was established 14 days later. The cerebral infarction volume was measured after 1 hour of ischemia and 24 hours of reperfusion. The brain tissues of mice were subjected to Western blot to detect the contents of endoplasmic reticulum stress-related proteins, including glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78), C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP), and apoptosis proteins (Caspase-3 and Cleaved-caspase 3). Results: After different interventions, there was no significant difference in random plasma glucose changes among the four groups (all P<0.05). The blood glucose level of the mice in the Met+IF group was lower than the sham group, I/R group, IF group and Met group (all P<0.05). GRP78/ß-actin in sham group, I/R group, IF group, Met group, IF+Met group were 0.48±0.05, 1.35±0.10, 0.94±0.05, 0.70±0.14, 0.41±0.37, respectively; CHOP/ß-actin were 0.27±0.04, 1.03±0.03, 0.72±0.04, 0.63±0.04, 0.44±0.01, respectively; Caspase-3/ß-actin were 0.51±0.04, 1.04±0.04, 0.83±0.03, 0.76±0.03, 0.63±0.05, respectively; Cleaved-Caspase-3/ß-actin were 0.17±0.06, 1.01±0.20, 0.75±0.06, 0.51±0.12, 0.29±0.08, respectively, with statistically significant differences (all P<0.001). The counts of GRP78-positive cells in the hippocampus immunohistochemistry in the sham group, I/R group, IF group, Met group, and IF+Met group were 53±5, 192±11, 162±12, 140±10, 114±13, respectively, while the counts of CHOP-positive cells were 35±4, 177±12, 120±12, 100±7, 69±10, respectively, with statistically significant differences (all P<0.001). The relative volume of cerebral infarction in I/R group, IF group, Met group and IF+Met group were 0, 0.333±0.046, 0.258±0.023, 0.116±0.039, 0.111±0.039, respectively, and there were statistically significant differences (all P<0.001). Conclusion: Both Metformin and intermittent fasting can alleviate endoplasmic reticulum stress after cerebral ischemia and reperfusion in mice, and the combination of the two has a better effect.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the incidence, characteristics and risk factors of spinal epidural hematoma after unilateral biportal endoscopic (UBE) lumbar spine surgery. Methods: The clinical data of 105 patients who underwent lumbar spine surgery under UBE in Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital from February 2020 to March 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. Of the patients, 48(45.7%) were male and 57(54.3%) were female, the mean age was (60.1±11.4) years (ranged 26 to 85 years). The MRI images at the third day post-surgery were observed, and the occurrence of hematoma was counted. Patients were assigned to normal group and hematoma group based on the presence of hematoma or not. The related clinical indicators of each patients were collected and used for comparison between two different groups. Logistic stepwise regression model was used to analyze whether each index was a risk factor for hematoma after the UBE lumbar fusion. Results: The total hematoma incidence rate was 28.6%(30/105), the symptomatic hematoma rate was 6.7%(7/105), and the hematoma reoperation rate was 0.9%(1/105). Univariate logistic regression analysis showed that hypertension (OR=3.368, 95%CI: 1.389-8.171), diabetes (OR=3.589, 95%CI: 1.230-10.476), admission systolic blood pressure>140 mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa,OR=3.687, 95%CI: 1.493-9.017), platelets<200×109/L (OR=0.300, 95%CI: 0.119-0.785), preoperative blood calcium<2.25 mmol/L (OR=0.340, 95%CI: 0.142-0.818), spinal stenosis grade D (OR=4.462, 95%CI: 1.810-10.996) were possible risk factors for spinal hematoma after UBE lumbar fusion. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that admission blood pressure systolic blood pressure>140 mmHg (OR=3.788, 95%CI:1.055-13.606), preoperative blood calcium<2.25 mmol/L (OR=78.544, 95%CI:3.895-1 584.058) and spinal stenosis grade D (OR=3.698, 95%CI:1.110-12.325) were risk factors for spinal hematoma after UBE lumbar fusion (all P<0.05). Conclusion: The types of spinal canal hematoma after UBE lumbar fusion include localized and extended type. The risk factors for hematoma include high systolic blood pressure on admission, low preoperative blood calcium and severe spinal stenosis.

RESUMO

Inner Mongolia Cashmere goat is a well-known local cashmere goat breed in China. It is famous for excellent fleece quality and a significant advantage in cashmere yield compared to other cashmere goat breeds. In this study, a genome-wide association study was used to investigate fiber length, fiber diameter, and cashmere yield of 192 Inner Mongolia Cashmere goats using the Illumina GoatSNP52K Beadchip panel. We discovered that four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) reached genome-wide significance levels. These SNPs were located in some genes, e.g. FGF12, SEMA3D, EVPL, and SOX5, possibly related to fleece traits in Inner Mongolia Cashmere goat. Gene ontology enrichment analysis revealed that these genes were enriched in several biological pathways that were involved in hair follicle development in cashmere goats. In summary, the identified significant SNPs and genes provide useful information to explore genetic mechanisms underlying the variation in fleece traits and genomic selection of Chinese cashmere goat.

RESUMO

Objective: To analyze the prognostic value of myocardial injury in patients with COVID-19. Method: Confirmed cases of COVID-19 patients admitted from January 31st to February 5th at isolation ward of Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University were divided into non-survival group and survival group according to the clinical outcomes 5 weeks after admission. Data including demographics, comorbidities, vital signs, laboratory results were obtained. Cardiac injury was defined as serum concentration of high sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI) above 0.04 µg/L. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression were used to analyze the prognostic value of myocardial injury in patients with COVID-19. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to plotted survival curve and analyze the impact of myocardial injury on the survival outcome of COVID-19 patients. Results: A total of 202 patients were included, the age was 63 (51, 70) years old, 88 (43.6%) of them were male, 85 (42.1%) of them had comorbidities, 125 (61.9%) of them were severely to critically ill. Till March 11, 33 patients died, all of them were critically ill patients. The age, proportion of males, comorbidities, respire rate, serum levels of hs-cTnI and incidence of heart failure in the non-survival group were significantly higher than those in the survival group (all P<0.05). The hospitalization time of non-survival group was significantly shorter than that of survival group (6(4, 9) vs. 32(23, 36), P<0.001). Myocardial injury was an important prognostic factor of COVID-19 (HR=5.382, 95%CI 2.404-12.05, P<0.001). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that the presence of myocardial injury was significantly associated with the reduced survival rate among COVID-19 patients (P<0.001). Conclusion: Myocardial injury is an important prognostic factor of COVID-19, COVID-19 patients with myocardial injury face a significantly higher risk of death.

RESUMO

Objective: To explore the application value of mixed-reality (MR) navigation combined with three-dimensional visualization technique in complicated hepatectomy. Methods: A retrospective analysis of the clinical data of fifty patients with complex liver cancer who underwent liver resection in the Department of hepatobiliary surgery of Nantong Tumor Hospital during September 2015 to October 2017 was conducted. These patients were randomly divided into control group and experimental group, including 22 cases in the experimental group, using three-dimensional visualization technique for preoperative assessment, and MR surgery intraoperative navigation technology, and 28 cases in the control group, in which the three-dimensional visualization technique and the MR navigation were not performed. The surgeons of the two groups were the same. The preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative indexes of the two groups were compared and analyzed. Results: There was no significant difference in preoperative indexes. But in the intraoperative indexes, the operation time [(82.3±10.4) min vs (96.6±22.7) min] and hepatic portal blocking time [(12.2±3.8) min VS (15.8±4.2) min] of the experimental group were significantly shorter than those of the control group, meanwhile, the amount of intraoperative bleeding [(486.4±118.5) ml vs (567.2±142.8) ml] and the volume of intraoperative blood transfusion of [(1.8±0.2) U vs (2.5±0.6) U] were significantly decreased. These differences were statistically significant. In the postoperatively, the total incidence of postoperative complications (4/22 vs 13/28) of the experimental group was lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant. Conclusion: In complicated hepatectomy, MR intraoperative navigation combined with three-dimensional visualization technique which used for preoperative assessment can significantly shorten operation time, hepatic portal blocking time, significantly reduce intraoperative blood loss and transfusion volume, and significantly reduce the incidence of postoperative total complications, which is of clinical value.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to explore the effect of depression of different degrees on inflammatory response and immune function in patients with ovarian cancer. One hundred and eight cases of ovarian cancer according to the Federation Internationale of Gynecologie and Obstetrigue (FIGO) stage II~III who visited the Gynecology Department of Affiliated HongQi Hospital of MuDanJiang Medical University between September 2015 and May 2017 were enrolled in the study. After being hospitalized, they were divided into two groups according to their Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) scores. The total score of BDI is 63, with 0~4 for the normal group (25 cases), 5~13 for the mild depression group (24 cases), 14~20 for the moderate depression group (28 cases), and 21~63 for the severe depression group (31 cases). The immune function, inflammatory reaction, tumor markers [CA125, human epididymis protein-4 (HE4), insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I)], platelet technology and D-dimer index were compared between the four groups. The results showed that there were different levels of depression in patients with ovarian cancer in II~III stage, and the degree of depression could stimulate the level of serum-6, and TNF -α in serum increased. The proportion of CD3+, CD4+ and NK cells in patients with severe depression decreased, and their immunity also decreased. Depression increased the levels of CA125, HE4 and IGF-I in serum and ascites of ovarian cancer patients, and increased the risk of tumor progression and recurrence. Hypercoagulability existed in patients with ovarian cancer, and tumor associated depression could increase platelet count in plasma and increase D-dimer level. To sum up, depression can affect the level of micro inflammation in patients with ovarian cancer. In particular, depression can reduce cellular immune responses, affect the progression free survival of ovarian cancer patients, and reduce their overall survival rate.

RESUMO

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common cancer globally. The XRCC1 protein interacts with ligase and poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase to repair cisplatin-induced DNA damage. The authors of previous studies have reported XRCC1 Arg399Gln, Arg280His, and Arg194Trp polymorphisms and advanced NSCLC prognosis, but the results are inconclusive. We investigated the association between clinical outcome and XRCC1 Arg399Gln, Arg280His, and Arg194Trp polymorphisms in advanced NSCLC patients treated with cisplatin. We recruited 252 patients with advanced NSCLC (TNM stages: IIIB and IV) and used polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) to genotype the polymorphisms. Patients with the TT genotype of XRCC1 Arg194Trp showed a significantly better response to chemotherapy than those with the CC genotype. The GA+AA genotype of Arg194Trp was correlated with better response to chemotherapy than the wild-type form. The TT genotype of Arg194Trp was associated with longer survival time than the CC genotype. The TT genotype of Arg194Trp was correlated with lower risk of death from all causes than the CC genotype. The Arg194Trp polymorphisms interacted with squamous cell carcinoma and affected overall survival of advanced NSCLC. However, there was no association between Arg399Gln and Arg280His polymorphisms and response to cisplatin-based chemotherapy and overall survival in advanced NSCLC. The results suggest that the TT genotype of Arg194Trp is significantly associated with better response to chemotherapy and longer overall survival of advanced NSCLC patients than the wild-type form. Our investigation offers insight into the influence of XRCC1 gene polymorphisms on the treatment outcome of advanced NSCLC.

RESUMO

Because of their local adaptation and economic factors that limit the adoption of commercial hybrids, farmer-saved maize landraces are still grown over a considerable area concentrated in southwest China. To evaluate the potential of using maize landraces, the germplasm characteristics of 96 landraces from southwest China were evaluated at phenotypic, cellular, and molecular levels. The existence of high phenotypic variation and elite germplasm tolerant to low-N, low-P, as well as drought stress was observed. Of the total landraces, 81.25, 7.29, 5.21, and 2.08% were found with 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 B chromosomes. Using 42 microsatellite (simple sequence repeat) loci, 246 alleles were detected among the landraces. The number of alleles per SSR locus varied from 2 to 10, averaging 5.67 allele per locus, which revealed a high level of genetic diversity of maize landraces in southwest China. Cluster analysis showed that 96 landraces could distinctly be clustered into four groups, which tended to associate with their geographic origins. We propose that the genetic diversity center of maize landraces in southwest China might be in Sichuan. A sharp genetic deviation from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium was observed from heterozygosity deficiency and a considerable genetic variation was revealed within, rather than among, the landraces. Based on their germplasm characteristics, the innovation and utilization of maize landraces in southwestern China for theoretical and applied research could be achieved by constructing heterosis groups, developing inbred lines with high combining ability, and maintaining the landraces with elite germplasm and B chromosomes using bulked pollen.

RESUMO

To explore the phylogenetic relationship, genome donor, and evolutionary history of the polyploid mustard (Brassica juncea) from China, eighty-one sequences of the chalcone synthase gene (Chs) were analyzed in 43 individuals, including 34 B. juncea, 2 B. rapa, 1 B. nigra, 2 B. oleracea, 1 B. napus, 1 B. carinata, and 2 Raphanus sativus. A maximum likelihood analysis showed that sequences from B. juncea were separated into two well-supported groups in accordance with the A and B genomes, whereas the traditional phenotypic classification of B. juncea was not wholly supported by the molecular results. The SplitsTree analysis recognized four distinct groups of Brassicaceae, and the median-joining network analysis recognized four distinct haplotypes of Chs. The estimates of Tajima's D, Fu and Li's D, and Fu and Li's F statistic for the Chs gene in the B genome were negative, while those in the A genome were significant. The results indicated that 1) the Chs sequences revealed a high level of sequence variation in Chinese mustard, 2) both tree and reticulate evolutions existed, and artificial selection played an important role in the evolution of Chinese mustard, 3) the original parental species of Chinese mustard are B. rapa var. sinapis arvensis and B. nigra (derived from China), 4) nucleotide variation in the B genome was higher than that in the A genome, and 5) cultivated mustard evolved from wild mustard, and China is one of the primary origins of B. juncea.

RESUMO

Objective: To analysis of high-risk HPV infection and cervical cytologic screening in HIV positive women, and to study the relationship between HIV infection and high-risk HPV infection. Methods: From June 2011 to May 2016, 58 cases of HIV positive women in Beijing Ditan Hospital for cervical screening were selected as the experimental group, and 59 cases of HIV negative women were selected as control group, thin-prep cytologic test(TCT)and HPV detection were used in two groups of subjects. The abnormal rate of TCT and the incidence rate of HPV were observed in the two groups, the relationship between HIV infection and HPV infection was analyzed. Results: TCT abnormal rate(91.4%, 53/58)of the experimental group was obviously higher than that of the control group(45.8%, 27/59), with statistically significant(χ2=12.365, P=0.036). High-risk HPV infection incidence(34.5%, 20/58)of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group(16.9%, 10/59), with traditional significance(χ2=10.359, P=0.041). CD4+ T lymphocytes and CD4+/CD8+ ratio of high-risk HPV positive patients had significant difference with high-risk HPV negative patients(χ2=10.378, P=0.042; χ2=9.245, P=0.045). The proportion of different AIDS clinical stages of high-risk HPV positive patients had obvious difference with high-risk HPV negative patients(P<0.05). Conclusion: HIV positive women maybe have a large proportion of abnormal TCT and the infection with high-risk HPV, and infection of high-risk HPV in HIV positive women has relationship with CD4+ T lymphocytes, CD4+/CD8+ ratio and AIDS clinical stage.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to elucidate the morphological charac-teristics of the muscle bundles of the flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) attached to the intermuscular aponeurosis (IMA) and any related structure that could potentially compress the ulnar nerve. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty embalmed limbs of 34 adult cadavers were studied. RESULTS: The FDS arose as multiple separate bundles from the IMA of the lateral surface of the flexor carpi ulnaris in 76% of specimens. Below their origin, these separate bundles became attached continuously as a single mass to form the muscle belly. There were 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 arising FDS muscle bundles in 28%, 30%, 4%, 10% and 4% of specimens, respectively. The muscle bundles were attached either only superficially (24% of cases) or across the entire width (20% of cases) of the IMA. In 32% of the specimens, bundles arose from the IMA in a combined fashion, being attached to the IMA superficially, deep and across the entire structure. The muscle bundles that arose from the deep part or entire width of the IMA were in contact with the ulnar nerve in 52% of specimens. In 11 (22%) specimens, the deep borders of the lowest muscle bundles close to the ulnar nerve were composed of tendinous fibres that divided from the IMA of the lateral surface of the flexor carpi ulnaris. The distance from the medial epicondyle to the lowest point of the FDS arising from the IMA was 62.0 ± 19.7 mm. CONCLUSIONS: The thick tendinous deep border of the lowest muscle bundle of the FDS where it attaches to the IMA is a potential cause of ulnar nerve compression.
