[Preventive axillary lymphovenous anastomoses simultaneously with lymph node dissection in the treatment of breast cancer for prevention of lymphedema of the upper limb (LYMPHA technique)]. / Preventivnoe nalozhenie limfovenoznykh anastomozov v podmyshechnoi oblasti odnomomentno s limfaticheskoi dissektsiei pri lechenii raka molochnoi zhelezy dlya profilaktiki limfedemy verkhnei konechnosti (metodika LYMPHA).

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effect the LYMPHA technique on the incidence of upper limb lymphedema in patients with breast cancer after complete axillary lymph node dissection. MATERIAL AND METHODS: There were 89 patients with breast cancer and signs of metastatic lesion of axillary lymph nodes who underwent complete axillary lymph dissection. In group 1 (41 patients), the LYMPHA technique was used simultaneously with lymph node dissection; in group 2 (48 patients) - lymph node dissection alone. RESULTS: The follow-up period was 1 year. The LYMPHA technique prolonged surgery and decreased duration of postoperative lymphorrhea. The incidence of upper limb lymphedema was 9.8% and 22.9%, respectively. CONCLUSION: The LYMPHA technique was effective for prevention of upper limb lymphedema after complete axillary lymph node dissection in the treatment of breast cancer.

[Protein metabolism in patients with duodenal ulcers and mathematical modeling of its disorders]. / Belkovyi obmen u bol'nykh s duodenal'nymi iazvami i matematicheskoe modelirovanie ego narushenii.

The amino acid composition of blood serum was studied in patients with duodenal ulcers, with this parameter characterizing protein metabolism most delicately. Essential changes were established in the amino acid composition as dependent on a number of factors: disease standing, complications and their duration, acid-forming function of the stomach. Based on the mechanism established, a mathematical model was simulated of protein metabolism impairment associated with peptic ulcer. The use of the model permits making an early diagnosis and correction of the abnormalities described.

[Use of organic forms of selenium in nutrition of patients with gastrointestinal diseases]. / O primenenii organicheskoi formy selena v pitanii gastroénterologicheskikh bol'nykh.

Selenium level was determined in sera of 27 patients including 15 patients with chronic gastrointestinal diseases and 12 patients with intestinal malabsorption after some kinds of stomach or small intestine resection. Deficiency of this trace element was found in 5 patients and suboptimal concentration in 4 patients in the first group and in 3 and 5 patients of second group respectively. Supplementation of patients with 45 mg of selenium organic form based on autolysis extract of selenious baker's yeast resulted in increase of selenium level in 23 (85%) patients including all of them with selenium deficiency or suboptimal level. It was concluded about high bioavailability of selenium in supplement studied. Perturbed intestinal absorption after surgical resection of stomach or small intestine may be considered as an indication for prophylactic taking of organic selenium form preparation.
