RESUMO

An attempt was made of using for the purpose of studying the virulence of Sh. sonnei of the method of determination of autoimmune plaque-forming cells in infected albino mice. By the mentioned method a total of 231 strains of Sh. sonnei of various biochemical types were examined. The virulence of 103 strains was checked in paralled by the keratoconjunctival test. It was shown that the method of determination of the autoimmune plaque-forming cells in the blood of infected mice could be used as a test for the virulence of Sh. sonnei, which was more sensitive than the keratoconjunctival test. Among the cultures studied 14.7% proved to be avirulent, 51.5%-of low virulence, 21.2%-moderately virulent, and 12.6%-highly virulent. Strains of the II biotype proved to be the most virulent, and strains of the III biotype-the least. The virulence of the cultures isolated from the patients with acute dysentery was more than double that of the cultures isolated from persons who came in contact with the patients.

RESUMO

The article deals with the main elements of scientific knowledge in epidemiology, viz. its subject matter, goals and methods. The statement is substantiated that the main subject of epidemiology, determining its specificity, is the morbidity of the population, and the content of the epidemiological goals and methods are disclosed. The determination of the term "epidemiological approach" as well as a scheme reflecting the structure of epidemiology are presented.

RESUMO

The proportion of repeated cases of dysentery caused by Sh. sonnei does not exceed 3.59% of the total number of bacteriologically confirmed cases of this infection. The frequency of reinfection depended on the enzymatic type of the causative agent. The rarest cases of reinfection were those occurring after the primary infection with Sh. sonnei, biochemical type 2, whereas the most frequent after the primary infection with Sh. sonnei, type 3. Reinfection with heterologous Sh. sonnei was registered mostly 6-12 months after the primary infection, and with homologous Sh. sonnei after a 1 year and later.

RESUMO

The results of studying the dynamics of the epidemic process of dysentery, based on the data from 3 districts of Moscow, are presented. The study revealed the periodicity of 3 years in the course of the epidemic process of dysentery, occurring against the background of a considerable predominance of Sh. sonnei, biochemical type 2. The use of the cohort method for analyzing the age structure of dysentery cases showed the possibility of using this method to find out to what extent the epidemic process repeatedly affected the same groups of population.
