BACKGROUND: Several earlier studies showed a female predominance in idiopathic adult-onset dystonia (IAOD) affecting the craniocervical area and a male preponderance in limb dystonia. However, sex-related differences may result from bias inherent to study design. Moreover, information is lacking on whether sex-related differences exist in expressing other dystonia-associated features and dystonia spread. OBJECTIVE: To provide accurate information on the relationship between sex differences, motor phenomenology, dystonia-associated features and the natural history of IAOD. METHODS: Data of 1701 patients with IAOD from the Italian Dystonia Registry were analysed. RESULTS: Women predominated over men in blepharospasm, oromandibular, laryngeal and cervical dystonia; the sex ratio was reversed in task-specific upper limb dystonia; and no clear sex difference emerged in non-task-specific upper limb dystonia and lower limb dystonia. This pattern was present at disease onset and the last examination. Women and men did not significantly differ for several dystonia-associated features and tendency to spread. In women and men, the absolute number of individuals who developed dystonia tended to increase from 20 to 60 years and then declined. However, when we stratified by site of dystonia onset, different patterns of female-to-male ratio over time could be observed in the various forms of dystonia. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide novel evidence on sex as a key mediator of IAOD phenotype at disease onset. Age-related sexual dimorphism may result from the varying exposures to specific age-related and sex-related environmental risk factors interacting in a complex manner with biological factors such as hormonal sex factors.

A few earlier observations and recent controlled studies pointed to the possible contribution of thyroid diseases in idiopathic adult-onset dystonia (IAOD). The aim of this study was to investigate the association between thyroid status and clinical characteristics of IAOD, focusing on dystonia localization, spread, and associated features such as tremors and sensory tricks. Patients were identified from those included in the Italian Dystonia Registry, a multicentre dataset of patients with adult-onset dystonia. The study population included 1518 IAOD patients. Patients with hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism were compared with those without any thyroid disease. In the 1518 IAOD patients, 167 patients (11%; 95% CI 9.5-12.6%) were diagnosed with hypothyroidism and 42 (2.8%; 95% CI 1.99-3.74) with hyperthyroidism. The three groups were comparable in age at dystonia onset, but there were more women than men in the groups with thyroid disease. Analysing the anatomical distribution of dystonia, more patients with blepharospasm were present in the hyperthyroidism group, but the difference did not reach statistical significance after the Bonferroni correction. The remaining dystonia-affected body sites were similarly distributed in the three groups, as did dystonia-associated features and spread. Our findings provided novel information indicating that the high rate of thyroid diseases is not specific for any specific dystonia subpopulation and does not appear to influence the natural history of the disease.

BACKGROUND: Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) thalamotomy is a safe and effective procedure for drug-resistant tremor in Parkinson's disease (PD). OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to demonstrate that MRgFUS ventralis intermedius thalamotomy in early-stage tremor-dominant PD may prevent an increase in dopaminergic medication 6 months after treatment compared with matched PD control subjects on standard medical therapy. METHODS: We prospectively enrolled patients with early-stage PD who underwent MRgFUS ventralis intermedius thalamotomy (PD-FUS) and patients treated with oral dopaminergic therapy (PD-ODT) with a 1:2 ratio. We collected demographic and clinical data at baseline and 6 and 12 months after thalamotomy. RESULTS: We included 10 patients in the PD-FUS group and 20 patients in the PD-ODT group. We found a significant increase in total levodopa equivalent daily dose and levodopa plus monoamine oxidase B inhibitors dose in the PD-ODT group 6 months after thalamotomy. CONCLUSIONS: In early-stage tremor-dominant PD, MRgFUS thalamotomy may be useful to reduce tremor and avoid the need to increase dopaminergic medications. © 2022 The Authors. INTRODUCTION: Subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) is an established treatment for patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) with motor complications; the contribution of sex in determining the outcome is still not understood. METHODS: We included 107 patients (71 males) with PD consecutively implanted with STN-DBS at our center. We reviewed patient charts from our database and retrospectively collected demographical and clinical data at baseline and at three follow-up visits (1, 5 and 10 years). RESULTS: We found a long-lasting effect of DBS on motor complications, despite a progressive worsening of motor performances in the ON medication condition. Bradykinesia and non-dopaminergic features seem to be the major determinant of this progression. Conversely to males, females showed a trend towards worsening in bradykinesia already at 1-year follow-up and poorer scores in non-dopaminergic features at 10-year follow-up. Levodopa Equivalent Daily Dose (LEDD) was significantly reduced after surgery compared to baseline values; however, while in males LEDD remained significantly lower than baseline even 10 years after surgery, in females LEDD returned at baseline values. Males showed a sustained effect on dyskinesias, but this benefit was less clear in females; the total electrical energy delivered was consistently lower in females compared to males. The profile of adverse events did not appear to be influenced by sex. CONCLUSION: Our data suggest that there are no major differences on the motor effect of STN-DBS between males and females. However, there may be some slight differences that should be specifically investigated in the future and that may influence therapeutic decisions in the chronic follow-up.

The diagnostic criteria for small fibre neuropathy are not established, influencing the approach to patients in clinical practice, their access to disease-modifying and symptomatic treatments, the use of healthcare resources, and the design of clinical trials. To address these issues, we performed a reappraisal study of 150 patients with sensory neuropathy and a prospective and follow-up validation study of 352 new subjects with suspected sensory neuropathy. Small fibre neuropathy diagnostic criteria were based on deep clinical phenotyping, quantitative sensory testing (QST) and intraepidermal nerve fibre density (IENFD). Small fibre neuropathy was ruled out in 5 of 150 patients (3.3%) of the reappraisal study. Small fibre neuropathy was diagnosed at baseline of the validation study in 149 of 352 patients (42.4%) based on the combination between two clinical signs and abnormal QST and IENFD (69.1%), abnormal QST alone (5.4%), or abnormal IENFD alone (20.1%). Eight patients (5.4%) had abnormal QST and IENFD but no clinical signs. Further, 38 patients complained of sensory symptoms but showed no clinical signs. Of those, 34 (89.4%) had normal QST and IENFD, 4 (10.5%) had abnormal QST and normal IENFD, and none had abnormal IENFD alone. At 18-month follow-up, 19 of them (56%) reported the complete recovery of symptoms and showed normal clinical, QST and IENFD findings. None of those with one single abnormal test (QST or IENFD) developed clinical signs or showed abnormal findings on the other test. Conversely, all eight patients with abnormal QST and IENFD at baseline developed clinical signs at follow-up. The combination of clinical signs and abnormal QST and/or IENFD findings can more reliably lead to the diagnosis of small fibre neuropathy than the combination of abnormal QST and IENFD findings in the absence of clinical signs. Sensory symptoms alone should not be considered a reliable screening feature. Our findings demonstrate that the combined clinical, functional and structural approach to the diagnosis of small fibre neuropathy is reliable and relevant both for clinical practice and clinical trial design.

BACKGROUND: Proper lead placement is considered one of the key factors in achieving a good clinical outcome in deep brain stimulation (DBS), but there is still considerable controversy surrounding the accuracy of the frameless in comparison to the frame-based technique. OBJECTIVE: We report our single-center experience with DBS electrode placement to evaluate the accuracy of the frameless stereotactic system. METHODS: We prospectively analyzed the data of 110 patients who underwent DBS surgery for Parkinson disease, dystonia, essential tremor, or refractory epilepsy. The final targets (FTs) of the 220 leads were: subthalamic nucleus, globus pallidus pars interna, ventralis intermedius nucleus, and anterior nuclei of thalamus in thalamus. A bilateral stereotactic approach using a combined identification of target based on preoperative images (MRI and CT scan fusion) and intra-operative micro-electrode recording (MER) were done. We collected and compared the coordinates of planned target (PT), the definitive expected target (ET) during MER, and the effective final location (FT) of the lead using the postoperative CT. Accuracy was assessed by both vector error (VE) and deviation from the PT. RESULTS: The mean and SD from PTs was 0.78 ± 0.43 mm in the x direction, 0.68 ± 0.41 mm in the y direction, and 0.76 ± 0.41 mm in the z direction. Global VE was 1.43 ± 0.37. CONCLUSION: Frameless systems appear to be a reliable and accurate technique.

Parkinson's disease is known to pose a relevant burden to society in industrialized countries. However, not much research has been conducted on the epidemiology of this disease in Italy. Our aim was to estimate the incidence rate and prevalence of Parkinson's disease in the Italian Friuli Venezia Giulia region using administrative health-related databases. Five regional administrative databases (hospitalizations, exemptions from medical charges, drug prescriptions, nursing homes, and home visits) were individually linked with one another through an anonymous stochastic univocal key. Using a pre-defined algorithm, incident and prevalent cases of Parkinson's disease were identified for the year 2016. The estimated regional incidence rate was 0.28 new cases/1000 person-years; prevalence was 3.89/1000 inhabitants. Both increased with increasing age and were higher among males than among females. A considerable proportion of prevalent cases was admitted to the hospital or nursing home in 2016, whereas only a few received home visits by health professionals. The incidence and prevalence of the disease were considerable, especially in the older population, indicating the need to develop multidisciplinary models to care for patients living in the region.

INTRODUCTION: Peripheral neuropathy related to levodopa/carbidopa intestinal gel (LCIG) therapy for advanced Parkinson disease (PD) is under investigation and is debated in the literature. The purpose of the study was to detect whether small nerve fibers are damaged during LCIG infusion. METHODS: Five advanced PD patients were enrolled prior to starting LCIG infusion. Six PD patients on oral levodopa (LD) treatment and 6 PD patients naïve to LD were also enrolled. Clinical examination, the Quantitative Sensory Testing battery testing, nerve conduction studies, and intraepidermal nerve fiber density examinations were collected at baseline and at 3, 6, and 12 months after LCIG infusion was started in the study cohort. RESULTS: After 3, 6, and 12 months, severe skin denervation and increased thermal thresholds were observed in the LCIG group. CONCLUSIONS: Significant damage to small nerve fibers was detected in PD patients soon after LCIG infusion had started, suggesting careful monitoring of small fiber impairment during LCIG is needed. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect on pain relief in patients with peripheral neuropathic pain after brachial plexus injuries using an implanted peripheral nerve stimulator applied directly to the nerve branch involved into the axillary cavity. Seven patients with post-traumatic brachial plexus lesions or distal peripheral nerve complaining of severe intractable chronic pain were enrolled in a single-centre, open-label trial. Conventional drugs and traditional surgical treatment were not effective. Patients underwent careful neurological evaluation, pain questionnaires and quantitative sensory testing (QST). Surgical treatment consists of a new surgical technique: a quadripolar electrode lead was placed directly on the sensory peripheral branch of the main nerve involved, proximally to the site of lesion, into the axillary cavity. To assess the effect, we performed a complete neuroalgological evaluation and QST battery after 1 week and again after 1, 6 and 12 weeks. All patients at baseline experienced severe pain with severe positive phenomena in the median (5) and/or radial (2) territory. After turning on the neuro-stimulator system, all patients experienced pain relief within a few minutes (>75 % and >95 % in most), with long-lasting pain relief with a reduction in mean Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) of 76.2 % after 6 months and of 71.5 % after 12 months. No significant adverse events occurred. We recommend and encourage this surgical technique for safety reasons; complications such as dislocation of electrocatheters are avoided. The peripheral nerve stimulation is effective and in severe neuropathic pain after post-traumatic nerve injuries of the upper limbs.

Introduction: To investigate cortical network changes using Magnetoencephalography (MEG) signals in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients undergoing Magnetic Resonance-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) thalamotomy. Methods: We evaluated the MEG signals in 16 PD patients with drug-refractory tremor before and after 12-month from MRgFUS unilateral lesion of the ventralis intermediate nucleus (Vim) of the thalamus contralateral to the most affected body side. We recorded patients 24 h before (T0) and 24 h after MRgFUS (T1). We analyzed signal epochs recorded at rest and during the isometric extension of the hand contralateral to thalamotomy. We evaluated cortico-muscular coherence (CMC), the out-strength index from non-primary motor areas to the pre-central area and connectivity indexes, using generalized partial directed coherence. Statistical analysis was performed using RMANOVA and post hoct-tests. Results: Most changes found at T1 compared to T0 occurred in the beta band and included: (1) a re-adjustment of CMC distribution; (2) a reduced out-strength from non-primary motor areas toward the precentral area; (3) strongly reduced clustering coefficient values. These differences mainly occurred during motor activation and with few statistically significant changes at rest. Correlation analysis showed significant relationships between changes of out-strength and clustering coefficient in non-primary motor areas and the changes in clinical scores. Discussion: One day after MRgFUS thalamotomy, PD patients showed a topographically reordered CMC and decreased cortico-cortical flow, together with a reduced local connection between different nodes. These findings suggest that the reordered cortico-muscular and cortical-networks in the beta band may represent an early physiological readjustment related to MRgFUS Vim lesion.

BACKGROUND: Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) thalamotomy is increasingly used to treat drug-resistant essential tremor (ET). Data on MRgFUS thalamotomy in dystonic tremor (DT) are anecdotal. OBJECTIVES: To investigate efficacy, safety, and differences in target coordinates of MRgFUS thalamotomy in DT versus ET. METHODS: Ten patients with DT and 35 with ET who consecutively underwent MRgFUS thalamotomy were followed for 12 months. Although in both groups the initial surgical planning coordinates corresponded to the ventralis intermediate (Vim), the final target could be modified intraoperatively based on clinical response. RESULTS: Tremor significantly improved in both groups. The thalamic lesion was significantly more anterior in DT than ET. Considering both ET and DT groups, the more anterior the lesion, the lower the odds ratio for adverse events. CONCLUSIONS: MRgFUS thalamotomy is safe and effective in DT and ET. Compared to classical Vim coordinates used for ET, more anterior targeting should be considered for DT.

MRI-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) lesioning is an innovative, safe and effective treatment which provides an innovative development in the field of minimally invasive stereotactic neurosurgery. Based on the application of focused ultrasound energy under full MR planning and thermal imaging control, unilateral lesioning of the thalamus, subthalamic nucleus, and globus pallidus is indicated for the treatment of movement disorders, including essential tremor, Parkinson's disease, and dystonia. We started to apply this technique in February 2019 for the treatment of patients with movement disorders. The authors developed a diagnostic therapeutic care pathway, which is herewith proposed and applied as an explication of standard clinical practice in use. The project was the result of the application of different methods such as Health Technology Assessment (HTA), Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats analysis (SWOT) and Demin -Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle. The aim of this project was to standardize the MRgFUS diagnostic-therapeutic pathway (DTP), describe its application and the appropriateness of different phases (patient selection, intervention phase and follow-up). Here, we described in detail our experience in the DTP application from 2019 up to now in 610 patients with movement disorders.

OBJECTIVE: Idiopathic peri-lead edema (IPLE) is being increasingly described as a potential complication occurring after DBS surgery. Its incidence and relationship to post-operative symptoms, though, are still poorly defined and its understanding and management yet limited. METHODS: We reviewed delayed (≥ 72 h) post-operative CT imaging of patients who underwent DBS surgery at our Institution. A comparison of clinical and laboratory findings was carried out between patients with IPLE and controls. RESULTS: 61 patients, accounting for 115 electrodes, were included. Incidence of IPLE was 37.7 % per patient and 29.5 % per electrode. Patients with IPLE were significantly older than controls (52.82 ± 15.65 years vs 44.73 ± 18.82 years, p = 0.04). There was no difference in incidence of new-onset neurological symptoms between patients with IPLE and controls. Longer operative time (180.65 ± 34.30 min vs 158.34 ± 49.28 min, p = 0.06) and a greater number of MERs per electrode were associated with IPLE (3.37 ± 1.21 vs 3.00 ± 1.63, p = 0.089), though these comparisons did not meet the statistical significance. None of the patients with IPLE underwent hardware removal, with IPLE vanishing spontaneously over months. CONCLUSIONS: IPLE is an underestimated, benign event that may occur after DBS surgery. Age, longer operative time and MER use may represent risk factors for IPLE formation, but further studies are needed. The presence of post-operative neurological symptoms and fever was not associated with IPLE presence, highlighting its benign nature and suggesting that empiric treatment may not be always justified.

OBJECTIVE: Drug-resistant essential tremor (ET) can be treated by Magnetic-Resonance-guided Focused-Ultrasound (MRgFUS) targeted to thalamic ventralis-intermediate nucleus (ViM). We are presenting the results obtained in ET patients by evaluating the cortico-muscular coherence (CMC) and the out-strength among cortical areas. METHODS: We recorded MEG-EMG signals in 16 patients with predominant tremor on the right upper limb. The examination was performed the day before MRgFUS (T0) treatment, 24 hours (T1), and 3-months (T2) after lesioning the left ViM. Normalized CMC (nCMC) and cortico-cortical out-strength among cortical areas were assessed during isometric extension of the right hand. RESULTS: According to the Essential Tremor Rating Assessment Scale, 13 of 16 patients were considered responders. At T1, in the beta-band, nCMC increased in the left hemisphere, namely in the areas directly involved in motor functions. At T2, the nCMC in non-motor areas decreased and the out-strength from other examined cortical areas toward the left motor-area decreased. CONCLUSIONS: In patients positively responding to MRgFUS, the CMC increased in the motor-area of the treated hemisphere immediately after the treatment, while the reorganization of CMC and cortico-cortical out-strength toward the cortical motor area occurred with a delay. SIGNIFICANCE: The effective treatment with MRgFUS corresponds with a readjustment of the CMC and of the communication between cortical areas.

Objective: Bilateral globus pallidus internus deep brain stimulation (GPi-DBS) is an established and effective therapy for primary refractory dystonia. However, the comparison of frameless vs. frame-based DBS surgery technique is still controversial. This retrospective study aims to compare the clinical outcome of two GPi-DBS surgical techniques for patients affected by primary generalized or multi-segmental dystonia. Methods: For lead's stereotaxic placement, 10 patients underwent frame-based surgery and the other 10 subjects DBS surgery with a frameless technique. Clinical features were evaluated at baseline and 6 and 12 months after surgery by means of the Burke-Fahn-Marsden Dystonia Rating Scale. Results: Frame-based GPi-DBS and frameless stereotaxic group revealed a comparable clinical outcome with no surgical complications. Conclusions: Frameless technique is safe and well-tolerated by patients and showed similar effectiveness of the frame-based stereotaxic surgery during GPi-DBS for primary dystonia. Notably, it could be a valid alternative solution because of the great advantage in improving the patient's discomfort during awake surgery.

RESUMO

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is used for the treatment of movement disorders, including Parkinson's disease, dystonia, and essential tremor, and has shown clinical benefits in other brain disorders. A natural path for the improvement of this technique is to continuously observe the stimulation effects on patient symptoms and neurophysiological markers. This requires the evolution of conventional deep brain stimulators to bidirectional interfaces, able to record, process, store, and wirelessly communicate neural signals in a robust and reliable fashion. Here, we present the architecture, design, and first use of an implantable stimulation and sensing interface (AlphaDBSR System) characterized by artifact-free recording and distributed data management protocols. Its application in three patients with Parkinson's disease (clinical trial n. NCT04681534) is shown as a proof of functioning of a clinically viable implanted brain-computer interface (BCI) for adaptive DBS. Reliable artifact free-recordings, and chronic long-term data and neural signal management are in place.

Magnetic Resonance-guided high-intensity Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) of the thalamic ventral intermediate nucleus (Vim) for tremor has increasingly gained interest as a new non-invasive alternative to standard neurosurgery. Resting state functional connectivity (rs-FC) correlates of MRgFUS have not been extensively investigated yet. A region of interest (ROI)-to-ROI rs-FC MRI "connectomic" analysis focusing on brain regions relevant for tremor was conducted on 15 tremor-dominant patients with Parkinson's disease who underwent MRgFUS. We tested whether rs-FC between tremor-related areas was modulated by MRgFUS at 1 and 3 months post-operatively, and whether such changes correlated with individual clinical outcomes assessed by the MDS-UPDRS-III sub items for tremor. Significant increase in FC was detected within bilateral primary motor (M1) cortices, as well as between bilateral M1 and crossed primary somatosensory cortices, and also between pallidum and the dentate nucleus of the untreated hemisphere. Correlation between disease duration and FC increase at 3 months was found between the putamen of both cerebral hemispheres and the Lobe VI of both cerebellar hemispheres, as well as between the Lobe VI of untreated cerebellar hemisphere with bilateral supplementary motor area (SMA). Drop-points value of MDS-UPDRS at 3 months correlated with post-treatment decrease in FC, between the anterior cingulate cortex and bilateral SMA, as well as between the Lobe VI of treated cerebellar hemisphere and the interpositus nucleus of untreated cerebellum. Tremor improvement at 3 months, expressed as percentage of intra-subject MDS-UPDRS changes, correlated with FC decrease between bilateral occipital fusiform gyrus and crossed Lobe VI and Vermis VI. Good responders (≥50% of baseline tremor improvement) showed reduced FC between bilateral SMA, between the interpositus nucleus of untreated cerebellum and the Lobe VI of treated cerebellum, as well as between the untreated SMA and the contralateral putamen. Good responders were characterized at baseline by crossed hypoconnectivity between bilateral putamen and M1, as well as between the putamen of the treated hemisphere and the contralateral SMA. We conclude that MRgFUS can effectively modulate brain FC within the tremor network. Such changes are associated with clinical outcome. The shifting mode of integration among the constituents of this network is, therefore, susceptible to external redirection despite the chronic nature of PD.

The Botulinum NeuroToxin (BoNT) comprises several serotypes with distinct properties, mechanisms of action, sensitivity and duration of effect in different species. The serotype A (BoNT/A) is the prevalent neurotoxin applied in human's disease. In this paper we present an overview of the current knowledge regarding the duration of effect and the neuromuscular sprouting of different BoNT serotypes in humans. Then, we report the original results of a study in healthy subjects treated with BoNT/A, B, C and F using different neurophysiological techniques. Twelve healthy volunteers (7 men, 5 women) are treated with BoNT/A, B, C and F or placebo in Abductor digiti minimi (ADM) muscle of the hand. Before and after injections, an extensive neurophysiological study is performed with the CMAP amplitude variation, Multi-Motor Unit Action Potentials (MUAPs) analysis, the Turns/Amplitude ratio of interference pattern (IP) and determination of jitter and Fiber Density (FD) at single-fiber electromyography (SFEMG), at week 2 (w2), 4 (w4), 6 (w6) and 8 (w8). A maximal neuromuscular block is obtained at w2 for all the serotypes. Afterwards, the CMAP trend appear similar for BoNT/A, B, and C while, BoNT/F shows a faster recover. Multi-MUAPs analysis and IP detect mild changes at w2 for all serotypes, except for BoNT/F that shows a greater change since w4. SFEMG have minimal changes in FD while, Jitter increase at w2 with a slower decrease over the time for all BoNTs. In conclusion, BoNT/F has earlier sprouting and complete recovery at w8. Other serotypes present a slower and similar profile. The EMG appear useful to study the functional recovery in humans, and these results should provide new evidence for assessing different serotypes. These findings improve our knowledge regarding the methods to evaluate duration of effects and dose equivalents in different serotypes, that in the future could change the clinicians strategy for disease-tailored BoNT therapies.

OBJECTIVE: Conventional deep brain stimulation (DBS) systems with ring-shaped leads generate spherical electrical fields. In contrast, novel directional leads use segmented electrodes. Aim of this study was to quantify the impedance variations over time in subjects with the directional Cartesia-Boston® system. METHODS: Impedance records, programming settings, and clinical data of 11 consecutive Parkinsonian patients implanted with DBS directional leads in two Italian centers (Udine and Vicenza) were retrospectively evaluated. Data were collected before starting stimulation (in the operating room and at days 5 and 40) and after switching stimulation on at the successive follow-up visits (1, 6 and 12 months). RESULTS: Directional leads have significantly higher impedance than ring leads. Stimulated contacts had always lower impedance compared to non-stimulated contacts. Before DBS-on, all contacts had higher impedance in the operating room, with an initial decrease five days post-surgery and a subsequent increase at day 40, more evident for directional contacts. The impedance of directional leads increased post-implantation at 1 and 6 months with a plateau at 12 months. CONCLUSIONS: There was a significant difference between the directional and ring leads at baseline (before activation of DBS) and during follow-up (chronic DBS). SIGNIFICANCE: Our study reveals new information about the impedance of segmented electrodes that is useful for patient management during the initial test period, as well as during long-term DBS follow-up.
