Contact electrification (CE) in water has attracted much attention, owing to its potential impacts on the chemical reactions, such as the recent discovery of spontaneous generation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in water microdroplets. However, current studies focus on the CE of bulk water, the measurement of CE between micrometer-size water droplets is a challenge and its mechanism still remains ambiguous. Here, a method for quantifying the amount of charge carried by the water microdroplets produced by ultrasonic atomization is proposed. In the method, the motions of water microdroplets in a uniform electric field are observed and the electrostatic forces on the microdroplets are calculated based on the moving speed of the microdroplets. It is revealed that the charge transfer between water microdroplets is size-dependent. The large microdroplets tend to be positively charged while the small microdroplets tend to receive negative charges, implying that the negative charges transfer from large microdroplets to the small microdroplets during ultrasonic atomization. Further, a theoretical model for microdroplets charging is proposed, in which the curvature-induced surface potential/energy difference is suggested to be responsible for the charge transfer between microdroplets. The findings show that the electric field strength between two microdroplets with opposite charges during separation is strong enough to convert OH‒ to OH*, providing evidence for the CE-induced spontaneous generation of H2O2 in water microdroplets.

BACKGROUND: Ovarian cancer (OC) is a malignant neoplasm that displays increased vascularization. Angiopoietin-like 4 (ANGPTL4) is a secreted glycoprotein that functions as a regulator of cell metabolism and angiogenesis and plays a critical role in tumorigenesis. However, the precise role of ANGPTL4 in the OC microenvironment, particularly its involvement in angiogenesis, has not been fully elucidated. METHODS: The expression of ANGPTL4 was confirmed by bioinformatics and IHC in OC. The potential molecular mechanism of ANGPTL4 was measured by RNA-sequence. We used a series of molecular biological experiments to measure the ANGPTL4-JAK2-STAT3 and ANGPTL4-ESM1 axis in OC progression, including MTT, EdU, wound healing, transwell, xenograft model, oil red O staining, chick chorioallantoic membrane assay and zebrafish model. Moreover, the molecular mechanisms were confirmed by Western blot, Co-IP and molecular docking. RESULTS: Our study demonstrates a significant upregulation of ANGPTL4 in OC specimens and its strong association with unfavorable prognosis. RNA-seq analysis affirms that ANGPTL4 facilitates OC development by driving JAK2-STAT3 signaling pathway activation. The interaction between ANGPTL4 and ESM1 promotes ANGPTL4 binding to lipoprotein lipase (LPL), thereby resulting in reprogrammed lipid metabolism and the promotion of OC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. In the OC microenvironment, ESM1 may interfere with the binding of ANGPTL4 to integrin and vascular-endothelial cadherin (VE-Cad), which leads to stabilization of vascular integrity and ultimately promotes angiogenesis. CONCLUSION: Our findings underscore that ANGPTL4 promotes OC development via JAK signaling and induces angiogenesis in the tumor microenvironment through its interaction with ESM1.

The performances of flexible piezoresistive sensors based on polymer nanocomposites are significantly affected by the environmental temperature; therefore, comprehensively investigating the temperature-dependent electromechanical response behaviors of conductive polymer nanocomposites is crucial for developing high-precision flexible piezoresistive sensors in a wide-temperature range. Herein, carbon nanotube (CNT)/polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) composites widely used for flexible piezoresistive sensors were prepared, and then the temperature-dependent electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical properties of the optimized CNT/PDMS composite in the temperature range from -150 to 150 °C were systematically investigated. At a low temperature of -150 °C, the CNT/PDMS composite becomes brittle with a compressive modulus of ∼1.2 MPa and loses its elasticity and reversible sensing capability. At a high temperature (above 90 °C), the CNT/PDMS composite softens, shows a fluid-like mechanical property, and loses its reversible sensing capability. In the temperature range from -60 to 90 °C, the CNT/PDMS composite exhibits good elasticity and reversible sensing behaviors and its modulus, resistivity, and sensing sensitivity decrease with an increasing temperature. At room temperature (30 °C), the CNT/PDMS composite exhibits better mechanical and piezoresistive stability than those at low and high temperatures. Given that environmental temperature changes have significant effects on the sensing performances of conductive polymer composites, the effect of ambient temperature changes must be considered when flexible piezoresistive sensors are designed and fabricated.

AIM: Post-transcriptional modifications and their specific mechanisms are the focus of research on the regulation of myocardial damage. Stress granules (SGs) can inhibit the inflammatory response by inhibiting the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)-stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway. This study investigated whether alkylation repair homologue protein 5 (ALKBH5) could affect myocardial inflammation and apoptosis during diabetic myocardial ischaemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) through the cGAS-STING pathway via SGs. METHODS: A diabetes ischaemia-reperfusion rat model and a high glucose hypoxia/reoxygenation cell model were established. Adeno-associated virus (AAV) and lentivirus (LV) were used to overexpress ALKBH5, while the SG agonist arsenite (Ars) and the SG inhibitor anisomycin were used as interventions. Then, the levels of apoptosis and related indicators in the cell and rat models were measured. RESULTS: In the in vivo experiment, compared with the normal sham group, the degree of myocardial tissue damage, creatine kinase-MB and cardiac troponin I in serum, and myocardial apoptosis, the infarcted area of myocardium, and the level of B-cell lymphoma 2 associated X protein, cGAS-STING pathway and inflammatory factors in the diabetes ischaemia-reperfusion group were significantly increased. However, the expression of SGs and the levels of ALKBH5, rat sarcoma-GTPase-activating protein-binding protein 1, T-cell intracellular antigen-1 and Bcl2 were significantly decreased. After AAV-ALKBH5 intervention, the degree of myocardial tissue damage, degree of myocardial apoptosis, and extent of myocardial infarction in myocardial tissue were significantly decreased. In the in vitro experiment, compared with those in the normal control group, the levels of lactate dehydrogenase, inflammation and apoptosis were significantly greater, and cell viability and the levels of ALKBH5 and SGs were decreased in the high glucose and hypoxia/reoxygenation groups. In the high glucose hypoxia/reoxygenation cell model, the degree of cell damage, inflammation, and apoptosis was greater than those in the high glucose and hypoxia/reoxygenation models, and the levels of ALKBH5 and SGs were further decreased. LV-ALKBH5 and Ars alleviated the degree of cell damage and inhibited inflammation and cell apoptosis. The inhibition of SGs could partly reverse the protective effect of LV-ALKBH5. The cGAS agonist G140 antagonized the inhibitory effects of the SG agonist Ars on cardiomyocyte apoptosis, inflammation and the cGAS-STING pathway. CONCLUSION: Both ALKBH5 and SGs inhibited myocardial inflammation and apoptosis during diabetic myocardial ischaemia-reperfusion. Mechanistically, ALKBH5 might inhibit the apoptosis of cardiomyocytes by promoting the expression of SGs through the cGAS-STING pathway.

The emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) significantly contributes to air pollution and poses a serious threat to human health. Benzene, one of the most toxic VOCs, is difficult for the human body to metabolize and is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen. The development of efficient adsorbents for removing trace amounts of benzene from ambient air is thus of great importance. In this work, we studied the benzene adsorption properties of four Zr-based metal-organic frameworks (Zr-MOFs) through static volumetric and dynamic breakthrough experiments. Two previously reported Zr-MOFs, BUT-12 and STA-26, were prepared with a tritopic carboxylic acid ligand (H3L1) functionalized with three methyl groups, and STA-26 is a 2-fold interpenetrated network of BUT-12. Two new isoreticular Zr-MOFs, BUT-12-Et and STA-26-Et, were synthesized using a similar ligand, H3L2, where the methyl groups are replaced with ethyl groups. There are mesopores in BUT-12 and BUT-12-Et and micropores in STA-26 and STA-26-Et. The four Zr-MOFs all showed high stability in liquid water and acidic aqueous solutions. The microporous STA-26 and STA-26-Et showed much higher benzene uptakes than mesoporous BUT-12 and BUT-12-Et at room temperature under low pressures. Particularly, the benzene adsorption capacity of STA-26-Et was high up to 2.21 mmol/g at P/P0 = 0.001 (P0 = 12.78 kPa), higher than those of the other three Zr-MOFs and most reported solid adsorbents. Breakthrough experiments confirmed that STA-26-Et could effectively capture trace benzene (10 ppm) from dry air; however, its benzene capture capacity was reduced by 90% under humid conditions (RH = 50%). Coating of the crystals of STA-26-Et with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) increased the hydrophobicity of the exterior MOF surfaces, leading to a more than 2-fold improvement in its benzene capture capacity in the breakthrough experiment under humid condition. PDMS coating of STA-26-Et likely slowed down the water adsorption process, and thus, the adsorbent afforded more efficient capture of benzene. This work demonstrates that modifying both the interior and exterior surfaces of MOFs can effectively enhance their performance in capturing trace benzene from ambient air, even under humid conditions. This finding is meaningful for the development of new adsorbents for effective air purification applications.

In this paper, we combine an energy decomposition analysis (EDA) scheme with many-body expansion (MBE) to develop a MB-EDA method to study the cooperative and anti-cooperative effects in molecular cluster systems. Based on the target state optimization self-consistent field (TSO-SCF) method, the intermolecular interaction energy can be decomposed into five chemically meaningful terms, i.e., electrostatic, exchange, polarization, charge transfer and dispersion interaction energies. MB-EDA can decompose each of these terms in MBE. This MB-EDA has been applied to 3 different cluster systems: water clusters, ionic liquid clusters, and acetonitrile-methane clusters. This reveals that electrostatic, exchange, and dispersion interactions are highly pairwise additive in all systems. In water and ionic liquid clusters, the many-body effects are significant in both polarization and charge transfer interactions, but are cooperative and anti-cooperative, respectively. For acetonitrile-methane clusters, which do not involve hydrogen bonds or charge-charge Coulombic interactions, the many-body effects are quite small. The chemical origins of different many-body effects are deeply analyzed. The MB-EDA method has been implemented in Qbics (https://qbics.info) and can be a useful tool for understanding the many-body behavior in molecular aggregates at the quantum chemical level of theory.

Understanding how the electronic state of transition metal atoms can influence molecular adsorption on a substrate is of great importance for many applications. Choosing NH3 as a model molecule, its adsorption behavior on defected SnS2 monolayers is investigated. The number of valence electrons n is controlled by decorating the monolayer with different transition metal atoms, ranging from Sc to Zn. Density-Functional Theory based calculations show that the adsorption energy of NH3 molecules oscillates with n and shows a clear odd-even pattern. There is also a mirror symmetry of the adsorption energies for large and low electron numbers. This unique behavior is mainly governed by the oxidation state of the TM ions. We trace back the observed trends of the adsorption energy to the orbital symmetries and ligand effects which affect the interaction between the 3σ orbitals (NH3) and the 3d orbitals of the transition metals. This result unravels the role which the spin state of TM ions plays in different crystal fields for the adsorption behavior of molecules. This new understanding of the role of the electronic structure on molecular adsorption can be useful for the design of high efficiency nanodevices in areas such as sensing and photocatalysis.

Two-dimensional material-supported single metal atom catalysts have been extensively studied and proved effective in electrocatalytic reactions in recent years. In this work, we systematically investigate the OER catalytic properties of single metal atoms supported by the NiN2 monolayer. Several typical transition metals with high single atom catalytic activity, such as Fe, Co, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ir, and Pt, were selected as catalytic active sites. The energy calculations show that transition metal atoms (Fe, Co, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ir, and Pt) are easily embedded in the NiN2 monolayer with Ni vacancies due to the negative binding energy. The calculated OER overpotentials of Fe, Co, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ir and Pt embedded NiN2 monolayers are 0.92 V, 0.47 V, 1.13 V, 0.66 V, 1.25 V, 0.28 V, and 0.94 V, respectively. Compared to the 0.57 V OER overpotential of typical OER noble metal catalysts IrO2, Co@NiN2 and Ir@NiN2 exhibit high OER catalytic activity due to lower overpotential, especially for Ir@NiN2. The high catalytic activity of the Ir embedded NiN2 monolayer can be explained well by the d-band center model. It is found that the adsorption strength of the embedded TM atoms with intermediates follows a linear relationship with their d-band centers. Besides, the overpotential of the Ir embedded NiN2 monolayer can be further reduced to 0.24 V under -2% biaxial strain. Such findings are expected to be employed in more two-dimensional material-supported single metal atom catalyzed reactions.

There is inconsistent evidence for an association of obesity with white matter microstructural alterations. Such inconsistent findings may be related to the cumulative effects of obesity and alcohol dependence. This study aimed to investigate the possible interactions between alcohol dependence and overweight/obesity on white matter microstructure in the human brain. A total of 60 inpatients with alcohol dependence during early abstinence (44 normal weight and 16 overweight/obese) and 65 controls (42 normal weight and 23 overweight/obese) were included. The diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) measures [fractional anisotropy (FA) and radial diffusivity (RD)] of the white matter microstructure were compared between groups. We observed significant interactive effects between alcohol dependence and overweight/obesity on DTI measures in several tracts. The DTI measures were not significantly different between the overweight/obese and normal-weight groups (although widespread trends of increased FA and decreased RD were observed) among controls. However, among the alcohol-dependent patients, the overweight/obese group had widespread reductions in FA and widespread increases in RD, most of which significantly differed from the normal-weight group; among those with overweight/obesity, the alcohol-dependent group had widespread reductions in FA and widespread increases in RD, most of which were significantly different from the control group. This study found significant interactive effects between overweight/obesity and alcohol dependence on white matter microstructure, indicating that these two controllable factors may synergistically impact white matter microstructure and disrupt structural connectivity in the human brain.

OBJECTIVE: Susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury can provide assistance in the prognosis of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). We propose a convolutional neural network model to classify SWI images with HIE. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Due to the lack of a large dataset, transfer learning method with fine-tuning a pre-trained ResNet 50 is introduced. We randomly select 11 datasets from patients with normal neurology outcomes (n = 31) and patients with abnormal neurology outcomes (n = 11) at 24 months of age to avoid bias in classification due to any imbalance in the data. RESULTS: We develop a rule-based system to improve the classification performance, with an accuracy of 0.93 ± 0.09. We also compute heatmaps produced by the Grad-CAM technique to analyze which areas of SWI images contributed more to the classification patients with abnormal neurology outcome. CONCLUSION: Such regions that are important in the classification accuracy can interpret the relationship between the brain regions affected by hypoxic-ischemic and neurodevelopmental outcomes of infants with HIE at the age of 2 years.

BACKGROUND: Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) is noninvasive technique utilized for identification and analysis skin malignancies. Several studies have applied CLSM in monitoring the therapeutic effects of basal cell carcinoma (BCC). OBJECTIVE: To investigate the diagnostic value of CLSM in low-risk BCC and the evaluation of photodynamic therapy (PDT). METHODS: We have diagnosed 149 patients with BCC using CLSM and histopathological examination. Based on histopathology, we summarized the classification information of low-risk BCC along with imaging features observed through CLSM. Thirty-four low-risk BCC patients underwent PDT treatment, and we used CLSM to evaluate its efficacy. RESULTS: Out of 149 participants were diagnosed with BCC by CLSM, 52 were pigmented type, 87 were nodular type and 10 were superficial type. After histopathological examination, 44 out of 52 were pigmented type, five were nodular type and three were superficial type. The results of CLSM were consistent with those of 87 nodular type and 10 superficial type. The CLSM features of nodular were observed in the tissue fissures around the tumor, the pigment mass was the CLSM characteristic of pigmented type. The simultaneous occurrence of inflammation and increased vasculature were characteristics of superficial. The effective rate of PDT was 100%, and the cure rate was 67.6%. At 12 months follow up, the recurrence rate of PDT was 11.8%, 15.0% for nodule type, 10.0% for pigmented type and 0% for superficial type. CONCLUSION: The tissue classification of CLSM for low-risk BCC was consistent with histopathology. CLSM can be used to monitor the efficacy of PDT for low-risk BCC.

BACKGROUND: Occupational hazards occur in all walks of life. China's horticulture industry is undergoing rapid development. However, the mental health of garden workers has not received much attention. This study investigates the mental health status and influencing factors of Chinese garden workers and provides a basis for promoting their mental health and ensuring the healthy development of Chinese horticulture. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey of garden workers in Beijing was conducted from 10 July 2021 to 10 October 2021. A total of 3349 valid questionnaires were recovered, with an effective response rate of 95.69%. Descriptive statistical analysis was carried out on the demographic characteristics, job satisfaction, stress, anxiety, and depression of garden workers, and the influencing factors affecting the mental health of Chinese garden workers were found through a t-test, variance analysis, and ordinal multi-class logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Survey respondents were mostly male (54.4%) and under the age of 40 (64.1%). The anxiety and depression symptoms of the garden workers were moderate. Among staff members, 40.2% were in a normal state of stress. Gender, three meals on time, monthly income, and job satisfaction were the factors influencing stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms among garden workers. CONCLUSION: Compared to medical staff and other groups, the stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms of Chinese garden workers are severe. Gender, monthly income, and job satisfaction are important factors affecting their mental health. Managers should continuously improve the working environment of garden workers, provide salaries that match their positions, and improve their job recognition and satisfaction to reduce the impact of negative emotions on personal health.

OBJECTIVES: Lung cancer (LC) is the malignant tumor with the highest mortality rate worldwide, and precise early diagnosis can improve patient prognosis. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether alterations in the glycopatterns recognized by the Hippeastrum hybrid lectin (HHL) in salivary proteins are associated with the development of LC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: First, we collected saliva samples from LC (15 lung adenocarcinoma (ADC); 15 squamous cell carcinoma (SCC); 15 small cell lung cancer (SCLC)) and 15 benign pulmonary disease (BPD) for high-throughput detection of abundance levels of HHL-recognized glycopatterns using protein microarrays, and then validated the pooled samples from each group with lectin blotting analysis. Finally, the N-glycan profiles of salivary glycoproteins isolated from the pooled samples using HHL-magnetic particle conjugates were characterized separately using MALDI-TOF/TOF-MS. RESULTS: The results showed that the abundance level of glycopatterns recognized by HHL in salivary proteins was elevated in LC compared to BPD. The proportion of mannosylated N-glycans was notably higher in ADC (31.7%), SCC (39.0%), and SCLC (46.6%) compared to BPD (23.3%). CONCLUSIONS: The altered salivary glycopatterns such as oligomannose, Manα1-3Man, or Manα1-6Man N-glycans recognized by HHL might serve as potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of LC patients. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: This study provides crucial information for studying changes in salivary to differentiate between BPD and LC and facilitate the discovery of biomarkers for LC diagnosis based on precise alterations of mannosylated N-glycans in saliva.

Rumination is closely linked to the onset and maintenance of major depressive disorder (MDD). Prior neuroimaging studies have identified the association between self-reported rumination trait and the functional coupling among a network of brain regions using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, little is known about the underlying neural circuitry mechanism during active rumination in MDD. Degree centrality (DC) is a simple metric to denote network integration, which is critical for higher-order psychological processes such as rumination. During an MRI scan, individuals with MDD (N = 45) and healthy controls (HC, N = 46) completed a rumination state task. We examined the interaction effect between the group (MDD vs. HC) and condition (rumination vs. distraction) on vertex-wise DC. We further characterized the identified brain region's functional involvement with Neurosynth and BrainMap. Network-wise seed-based functional connectivity (FC) analysis was also conducted for the identified region of interest. Finally, exploratory correlation analysis was conducted between the identified region of interest's network FCs and self-reported in-scanner affect levels. We found that a left superior frontal gyrus (SFG) region, generally overlapped with the frontal eye field, showed a significant interaction effect. Further analysis revealed its involvement with executive functions. FCs between this region, the frontoparietal, and the dorsal attention network (DAN) also showed significant interaction effects. Furthermore, its FC to DAN during distraction showed a marginally significant negative association with in-scanner affect level at the baseline. Our results implicated an essential role of the left SFG in the rumination's underlying neural circuitry mechanism in MDD and provided novel evidence for the conceptualization of rumination in terms of impaired executive control.

An 8-dye fluorescence-labeling forensic Y-chromosomal short tandem repeats (Y-STRs) kit, the 62-plex Y-STR multiplex amplification system, was developed and optimized. The system was validated by testing PCR conditions, stutter ratios (SR) and peak height ratios, sensitivity, mixture samples, precision and accuracy, species-specificity, and inhibition studies according to the Scientific Working Group on DNA Analysis Methods guidelines. PCR-based studies showed that the recommended PCR conditions were optimized for this kit. In the sensitivity study, a full profile was obtained from template DNA with a quantity of u125 pg. Consistent profiles were obtained from three different laboratories. The SRs in all loci were less than 15%, and nice balance and suitable average peak height were shown. No peaks were detected in the profiles of common animal species and microorganisms. In the male-male mixture studies, all loci were observed at a ratio of 1:8, and in the male-female mixture study, all alleles could be profiled at a ratio of 1:500 if the male DNA inputs were ≥0.5 ng/µL. An inhibitor study demonstrated that the kit had varying degrees of resistance to the presence of common inhibitors. Population study demonstrated the 62-plex Y-STR Kit improved the power of discrimination in unrelated Chinese Han males (n = 192). When haplotype diversity was 1, the probability of discrimination power of the 62-plex Y-STR Kit was 0.9948, which is suitable for forensic investigations. The results show that the developed 8-dye fluorescence labeling 62 loci system is sensitive, robust, convenient, and highly informative for forensic applications.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to explore risk factors for lupus nephritis (LN) in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients and establish a Nomogram prediction model based on LASSO-logistic regression. METHODS: The clinical and laboratory data of SLE patients in Meishan People's Hospital from July 2012 to December 2021 were analyzed retrospectively. All SLE patients were divided into two groups with or without LN. Risk factors were screened based on LASSO-logistic regression analysis, and a Nomogram prediction model was established. The receiver operating characteristic curve, calibration curves, and decision curve analysis were adopted to evaluate the performance of the Nomogram model. RESULTS: A total of 555 SLE patients were enrolled, including 303 SLE patients with LN and 252 SLE patients without LN. LASSO regression and multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that ESR, mucosal ulcer, proteinuria, and hematuria were independent risk factors for LN in SLE patients. The four clinical features were incorporated into the Nomogram prediction model. Results showed that calibration curve was basically close to the diagonal dotted line with slope 1 (ideal prediction case), which proved that the prediction ability of the model was acceptable. In addition, the decision curve analysis showed that the Nomogram prediction model could bring net clinical benefits to patients when the threshold probability was 0.12-0.54. CONCLUSION: Four clinical indicators of ESR, mucosal ulcer, proteinuria, and hematuria were independent risk factors for LN in SLE patients. The predictive power of the Nomogram model based on LASSO-logistic regression was acceptable and could be used to guide clinical work.

OBJECTIVE: Colon cancer (CC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide and has a poor prognosis. Surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy is the standard treatment strategy for stage III CC patients. Primary tumor location (PTL) is an important factor for the long-term survival of CC. However, the difference in the prognosis between the histological subtypes of mucinous adenocarcinoma (MAC) and nonspecific adenocarcinoma (AC) in stage III CC patients is unclear. The correlation of chemotherapy, PTL and histological subtype with the overall survival (OS) of stage III CC patients has not yet been explored. METHODS: Patients diagnosed with stage III CC from 2010 to 2016 in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database were retrieved. The clinicopathological features and OS were analyzed according to the chemotherapy, PTL and histological subtype. RESULTS: A total of 28,765 eligible stage III CC patients were enrolled in this study. The results showed that chemotherapy, left-sided CC (LCC) and AC were favorable prognostic factors for OS. Right-sided CC (RCC) had worse OS than LCC regardless of chemotherapy. MAC had worse OS than AC in the patients with chemotherapy, but the survival benefits disappeared in the patients without chemotherapy. Additionally, in LCC, MAC had worse OS than AC regardless of chemotherapy. However, in RCC, MAC had worse OS than AC in patients with chemotherapy but had similar OS to AC in patients without chemotherapy. In the AC group, RCC had worse OS than LCC regardless of chemotherapy. In the MAC group, RCC had comparable OS to LCC regardless of chemotherapy. Four subgroups, i.e., RCC/MAC, RCC/AC, LCC/MAC and LCC/AC, all showed benefits from chemotherapy. Among them, LCC/AC had the best OS, and RCC/MAC had the worst OS compared with the other three subgroups. CONCLUSION: The prognosis of MAC is worse than that of AC in stage III CC. LCC/AC has the best OS, while RCC/MAC has the worst OS but still benefits from chemotherapy. The impact of chemotherapy on survival is greater than that of histological subtype, but the impact of histological subtype on survival is similar to that of PTL.

Intermolecular interactions with excited states play important roles in various photochemical and photophysical processes. In this work, an energy decomposition analysis (EDA) method of intermolecular interactions for systems in which one monomer is in a singly excited state while others are in their ground states, called GKS-EDA(TD), is proposed. Based on the computational results of time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT), GKS-EDA(TD) divides the total interaction energy with excited states into electrostatic, exchange-repulsion, polarization, correlation and dispersion. The nature of intermolecular interactions in test examples with their low-lying singly excited states is investigated, which shows that GKS-EDA(TD) can be used for various intermolecular interactions with different excitation modes. Furthermore, GKS-EDA(TD) is employed to explore the non-covalent interactions in a series of C60⋯ nucleic acid base complexes with the decomposition of excitation energy contribution.

BACKGROUND: The long-term mortality of kidney transplantation patients with atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome remains high, and the efficacy of the main treatment eculizumab is still controversial. OBJECTIVE: A comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials using eculizumab in renal transplant patients with atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of this therapy and its impact on renal function. METHODS: A comprehensive systematic search was conducted across multiple reputable databases, including Ovid (MEDLINE, EMBASE), PubMed, and the Cochrane Library (since database inception), to identify relevant studies exploring the use of eculizumab in patients with atypical hemolytic uremic kidney transplantation. Various renal function parameters, such as dialysis, rejection, glomerular filtration rate, serum creatinine, lactate dehydrogenase, and platelet count, along with patient relapse rates, were extracted and summarized using a combination of robust statistical methods, including fixed effects, random effects, and general inverse variance methods. RESULT: Eighteen trials with 618 subjects were analyzed. Our analysis suggests that the use of eculizumab is associated with a reduced likelihood of AHUS recurrence (odds ratio (OR) = 0.05, 95% CI: 0.00-0.13), as well as a significant reduction in the need for dialysis (odds ratio (OR) = 0.13, 95% CI: 0.01-0.32). Additionally, eculizumab treatment led to lower serum creatinine levels (mean differences (MD) = 126.931µmoI/L, 95% CI: 115.572µmoI/L-138.290µmoI/L) and an improved glomerular filtration rate (mean differences (MD) = 59.571 ml/min, 95% CI: 57.876 ml/min-61.266 mL/min). Our results also indicate that the use of eculizumab reduces the likelihood of rejection (odds ratio (OR) = 0.09, 95% CI: 0.01-0.22). Furthermore, the drug was effective in improving platelet counts (×10∧9/L) (mean differences (MD) = 163.421, 95% CI: 46.998-279.844) and lactate dehydrogenase levels (mean differences (MD) = 336.608 U/L, 95% CI: 164.816 U/L-508.399 U/L). CONCLUSIONS: Based on the meta-analysis, treatment with eculizumab can reduce dialysis rates and improve patients' quality of life by enhancing renal function.

RESUMO

Investigation on the chemical components of Valeriana jatamansi Jones (Caprifoliaceae), a new lignan with pyran-ring, dipsalignan G (1), along with eight known compounds (2-9) were isolated. Their structures were elucidated by extensive analysis of 1D, 2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS spectroscopic data. Additionally, possible biosynthetic pathway of 1 was proposed. Finally, biological evaluation results showed that 8 had significant scavenging ability to ABTS and DPPH free radicals, with IC50 values of 1.35 ± 0.01 and 2.94 ± 0.01 µg/ml, respectively.
