BACKGROUND: Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) variant syndrome (VS) exhibit a complex overlap of AIH features with PBC, leading to poorer prognoses than those with PBC or AIH alone. The biomarkers associated with drug response and potential molecular mechanisms in this syndrome have not been fully elucidated. METHODS: Whole-transcriptome sequencing was employed to discern differentially expressed (DE) RNAs within good responders (GR) and poor responders (PR) among patients with PBC/AIH VS. Subsequent gene ontology (GO) analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis were conducted for the identified DE RNAs. Plasma metabolomics was employed to delineate the metabolic profiles distinguishing PR and GR groups. The quantification of immune cell profiles and associated cytokines was achieved through flow cytometry and immunoassay technology. Uni- and multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted to construct a predictive model for insufficient biochemical response. The performance of the model was assessed by computing the area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUC) curve, sensitivity, and specificity. FINDINGS: The analysis identified 224 differentially expressed (DE) mRNAs, 189 DE long non-coding RNAs, 39 DE circular RNAs, and 63 DE microRNAs. Functional pathway analysis revealed enrichment in lipid metabolic pathways and immune response. Metabolomics disclosed dysregulated lipid metabolism and identified PC (18:2/18:2) and PC (16:0/20:3) as predictors. CD4+ T helper (Th) cells, including Th2 cells and regulatory T cells (Tregs), were upregulated in the GR group. Pro-inflammatory cytokines (IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-9, and IL-17) were downregulated in the GR group, while anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-10, IL-4, IL-5, and IL-22) were elevated. Regulatory networks were constructed, identifying CACNA1H and ACAA1 as target genes. A predictive model based on these indicators demonstrated an AUC of 0.986 in the primary cohort and an AUC of 0.940 in the validation cohort for predicting complete biochemical response. CONCLUSION: A combined model integrating genomic, metabolic, and cytokinomic features demonstrated high accuracy in predicting insufficient biochemical response in patients with PBC/AIH VS. Early recognition of individuals at elevated risk for insufficient response allows for the prompt initiation of additional treatments.

We proposed spectrally temporally cascaded optical parametric amplification (STOPA) using pump energy recycling to simultaneously increase spectral bandwidth and conversion efficiency in optical parametric amplification (OPA). Using BiB3O6 and KTiOAsO4 nonlinear crystals, near-single-cycle mid-infrared (MIR) pulses with maximum energy conversion efficiencies exceeding 25% were obtained in simulations. We successfully demonstrated sub-two-cycle, CEP-stable pulse generation at 1.8 µm using a four-step STOPA system in the experiment. This method provides a solution to solve the limitations of the gain bandwidth of nonlinear crystals and the low conversion efficiency in broadband OPA systems, which is helpful for intense attosecond pulse generation and strong laser field physics studies.

Animal genetic resources are crucial for ensuring global food security. However, in recent years, a noticeable decline in the genetic diversity of livestock has occurred worldwide. This decline is pronounced in developing countries, where the management of these resources is insufficient. In the current study, we performed whole genome sequencing for 20 Wuxue (WX) and five Guizhou White (GW) goats. Additionally, we utilized the published genomes of 131 samples representing five different goat breeds from various regions in China. We investigated and compared the genetic diversity and selection signatures of WX goats. Whole genome sequencing analysis of the WX and GW populations yielded 120 425 063 SNPs, which resided primarily in intergenic and intron regions. Population genetic structure revealed that WX exhibited genetic resemblance to GW, Chengdu Brown, and Jintang Black and significant differentiation from the other goat breeds. In addition, three methods (nucleotide diversity, linkage disequilibrium decay, and runs of homozygosity) showed moderate genetic diversity in WX goats. We used nucleotide diversity and composite likelihood ratio methods to identify within-breed signatures of positive selection in WX goats. A total of 369 genes were identified using both detection methods, including genes related to reproduction (GRID2, ZNF276, TCF25, and SPIRE2), growth (HMGA2 and GJA3), and immunity (IRF3 and SRSF3). Overall, this study explored the adaptability of WX goats, shedding light on their genetic richness and potential to thrive in challenges posed by climatic changes and diseases. Further investigations are warranted to harness these insights to enhance more efficient and sustainable goat breeding initiatives.

Purine is mainly culprit of hyperuricemia (HUA) and gout, which is widely present in Huangjiu in the form of free bases. Bacterial succession plays an important role in quality control in Huangjiu. The correlation between the purine compound content and the bacterial communities during the fermentation process has not yet been evaluated. In this study, high-throughput sequencing (HTS) technology was used to monitor the bacterial community composition of Huangjiu at different fermentation stages. The correlation between the bacterial community and the contents of physicochemical properties and purine compounds were evaluated using the Spearman analysis method. The key enzymes of purine metabolism pathway in the microbial community were analyzed by bioinformatics using Phylogenetic Investigation of Communities by Reconstruction of Unobserved States (PICRUSt). The results showed that the purine content in Huangjiu increased gradually in 0∼9d of fermentation (21.05-65.71 mg/L), and stabilized gradually in 12∼18d (65.63-69.55 mg/L), while the abundance of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) of bacterial microbial flora were increased (0∼9d) and then stabilized (12∼18d). Moreover, Lactobacillus acetotolerans and Lactobacillus helveticus were highly correlated positively with purine contents, while Limosilactobacillus fermentum and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum were correlated negatively. In addition, the dominant strains of bacteria were involved in the metabolism of purine, and the key enzymes for purine compound synthesis were more abundant than that for purine degradation. This study is helpful to scientifically understand the formation mechanism of purines, providing a basis for screening functional strains of purine degrading to accurately regulate purine level in Huangjiu.

Prodrugs have emerged as a major strategy for addressing clinical challenges by improving drug pharmacokinetics, reducing toxicity, and enhancing treatment efficacy. The emergence of new bioorthogonal chemistry has greatly facilitated the development of prodrug strategies, enabling their activation through chemical and physical stimuli. This "on-demand" activation using bioorthogonal chemistry has revolutionized the research and development of prodrugs. Consequently, prodrug activation has garnered significant attention and emerged as an exciting field of translational research. This review summarizes the latest advancements in prodrug activation by utilizing bioorthogonal chemistry and mainly focuses on the activation of small-molecule prodrugs and antibody-drug conjugates. In addition, this review also discusses the opportunities and challenges of translating these advancements into clinical practice.

The C-C coupling of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) to generate acetic acid (CH3COOH) represents a highly atom-efficient chemical conversion, fostering the comprehensive utilization of greenhouse gases. However, the inherent thermodynamic stability and kinetic inertness of CH4 and CO2 present obstacles to achieving efficient and selective conversion at room temperature. Our study reveals that hydroxyl radicals (·OH) and hydrated electrons (eaq-) produced by water radiolysis can effectively activate CH4 and CO2, yielding methyl radicals (·CH3) and carbon dioxide radicals (·CO2-) that facilitate the production of CH3COOH at ambient temperature. The introduction of radiation-synthesized CuO-anchored TiO2 bifunctional catalyst could further enhance reaction efficiency and selectivity remarkably by boosting radiation absorption and radical stability, resulting in a concentration of 7.1 mmol·L-1 of CH3COOH with near-unity selectivity (>95%). These findings offer valuable insights for catalyst design and implementation in radiation-induced chemical conversion.

We propose a simple and robust all-optical pulse sampling method to characterize the temporal profiles of ultrashort laser pulses. The method is based on a third-harmonic generation (THG) process with perturbation in ambient air, which requires no retrieval algorithm and can be potentially applied to electric field measurement. The method has been successfully used to characterize multi-cycle and few-cycle pulses with a spectral range from 800 nm to 2200 nm. Considering the broad phase-matching bandwidth of THG and extremely low dispersion of air, this method is suitable for ultrashort pulse characterization even for single-cycle pulses in the near- to mid-infrared range. Thus, the method provides a reliable and highly accessible approach for pulse measurement in ultrafast optics research.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of anti-stress agents on the growth performance and immune function of broilers under immune stress conditions induced by vaccination. A total of 128, 1-day-old Arbor Acres broilers were randomly divided into four groups. Group normal control (NC) was the control group. Group vaccination control (VC), T 0.5%, and T 1% were the treatment groups, which were nasally vaccinated with two doses of the Newcastle disease virus (NDV) vaccine. The chicks in groups T 0.5% and T 1% were fed conventional diets containing 0.5% and 1% anti-stress agents. Thereafter, these broilers were slaughtered on 1, 7, 14, and 21 days post-vaccination. The results indicated that anti-stress agents could significantly reduce serum adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) (P < 0.01) and cortisol (CORT) (P < 0.05) levels, and improve the growth performance (P < 0.05) and immune function of broilers (P < 0.05); However, the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) (P < 0.05) were decreased, and the decreased total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) (P < 0.01) levels mediated by vaccination were markedly improved. In addition, anti-stress agents could attenuate apoptosis in spleen lymphocytes (P < 0.01) by upregulating the ratio of Bcl-2 to BAX (P < 0.01) and downregulating the expression of caspase-3 and -9 (P < 0.01), which might be attributed to the inhibition of the enzymatic activities of caspase-3 and -9 (P < 0.05). BACKGROUND: As the important building blocks of nucleic acids, purines are alkaloids and responsible for hyperuricemia and gout. The purine content in Huangjiu is higher, and mainly exists in the form of free bases, which is easier to be absorbed by human body. However, the currently available reports on purine in Huangjiu mainly focus on detection methods and content survey. No studies on the regulation of the purine content in Huangjiu have been reported. RESULTS: Eighty-four strains, with the degradation capacity of purine, were screened from the fermentation broth of Huangjiu. In detail, the isolated lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strain 75 # showed the strongest degradation ability of guanosine, inosine and four purines, which reduce their levels by 83.4% (guanosine), 97.4% (inosine), 95.1% (adenine), 95.0% (guanine), 94.9% (hypoxanthine) and 65.9% (xanthine), respectively. Subsequently, the LAB strain 75# was identified to be Limosilactobacillus fermentum by 16S rRNA gene sequencing, which was named as Limosilactobacillus fermentum LF-1 and applied to the fermentation of Huangjiu in the laboratory. Compared with the fermentation broth of Huangjiu without adding L. fermentum LF-1, the content of purine compounds in the fermentation broth inoculated with L. fermentum LF-1 was reduced by 64.7%. In addition, the fermented Huangjiu had richer flavor compounds, and the physicochemical indices were in accordance with the national standard of Chinese Huangjiu. CONCLUSION: The screened strain L. fermentum LF-1 may be a promising probiotic for the development of a novel that can efficiently degrade purine in Huangjiu. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

We propose and demonstrate an all-optical pulse sampling technique based on the transient grating (TG) procedure with perturbation, which provides a simple and robust manner to characterize an ultrashort laser pulse without employing a retrieval algorithm. In our approach, a two-orders weaker perturbation pulse perturbs the diffracted pulse from the TG, which is generated by another strong fundamental pulse. The modulation of the diffracted pulse energy directly represents the temporal profile of the perturbation pulse. We have successfully characterized few-cycle and multi-cycle pulses, which is consistent with the results verified by the widely employed frequency-resolved optical gating (FROG) method. Our method provides a potential way to characterize ultrashort laser waveform from the deep-UV to far-infrared region.

T-2 toxin is a highly toxic trichothecene that can induce toxic effects in a variety of organs and tissues, but the pathogenesis of its nephrotoxicity has not been elucidated. In this study, we assessed the involvement of protein kinase RNA-like ER kinase (PERK)-mediated endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and apoptosis in PK-15 cells cultured at different concentrations of T-2 toxin. Cell viability, antioxidant capacity, intracellular calcium (Ca2+) content, apoptotic rate, levels of ER stress, and apoptosis-related proteins were studied. T-2 toxin inhibited cell proliferation; increased the apoptosis rate; and was accompanied by increased cleaved caspase-3 expression, altered intracellular oxidative stress marker levels, and intracellular Ca2+ overloading. The ER stress inhibitor 4-phenylbutyrate (4-PBA) and PERK selective inhibitor GSK2606414 prevented the decrease of cell activity and apoptosis caused by T-2 toxin. The altered expression of glucose regulatory protein 78 (GRP78), C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP), and caspase-12 proved that ER stress was involved in cell injury triggered by T-2 toxin. T-2 toxin activated the phosphorylation of PERK and the alpha subunit of eukaryotic initiation factor 2 (eIF2α) and upregulated the activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4), thereby triggering ER stress via the GRP78/PERK/CHOP signaling pathway. This study provides a new perspective for understanding the nephrotoxicity of T-2 toxin.

To improve the aqueous solubility and the oral bioavailability of a poorly water-soluble biologically active pentacyclic triterpenoid, ursolic acid (UA), ursolic acid-phospholipid complex (UA-PC) was prepared using solvent-assisted grinding method which is green and simple. The phospholipid complex was characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM), which confirmed the formation of the phospholipid complex. Specifically, compared with free UA, the formulation demonstrated over 276-fold higher aqueous solubility of UA and exhibited faster dissolution rate and higher cumulative dissolution percentages. Finally, the oral bioavailability of the prepared UA-PC was evaluated using Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Compared with free UA, the UA-PC exhibited considerable enhancement in the bioavailability with an increase in Cmax (183.80 vs 68.26 µg/l) and AUC 0-24 h (878.0 vs 212.1 µg·h/l), which was consistent with the in vitro results. This enhancement was attributed to the improvement of solubility and dissolution in vitro. Therefore, the method of solvent-assisted grinding appears to be an efficient approach for the preparation of UA-PC, and the prepared UA-PC showed a promising potential to overcome the limitation of poor oral bioavailability associated with low water solubility.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to explore effects of microRNA-200c regulating TGF-ß/Smad3 pathway by targeting Zeb1 on the occurrence and development of hypospadias and to evaluate the relationship between microRNA-200c and occurrence of hypospadias. MATERIAL AND METHODS Pregnant rats with a gestational age of 12 days were allocated into 2 groups; one received gavage of DEHP-contained soybean oil (1 ml/day, 8 days; Group A) and the other had gavage of normal soybean oil (1 ml/day, 8 days; Group B). Baby rats with hypospadias from Group A were assigned to the model group (n=20) and healthy baby rats from Group B were assigned to the control group (n=20). Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), immunohistochemistry and Western blot analysis were performed to detect microRNA-200c, Zeb1, TGF-ß, and Smad3 mRNA and protein expressions in the model group (n=20) and the control group (n=20). The relationship between microRNA-200c and Zeb1 was detected using a dual-luciferase reporter gene experiment. After the in vitro intervention experiment in fetal rat penises, Western blot was used to detect the expression of Zeb1, TGF-ß, and Smad3. RESULTS In the model group, microRNA-200c was expressed at a low level, and microRNA-200c expression in control group was 2.1 times higher than in the model group (P<0.05). When compared with the control group, mRNA expressions, protein expressions, and positive rates of Zeb1, TGF-ß, and Smad3 were higher in the model group (all P<0.01). Luciferase gene report determined that Zeb1 is a target gene of microRNA-200c. The in vitro intervention experiment in fetal rat penises found that a high concentration of microRNA-200c inhibited hypospadias occurrence by suppressing the expression of Zeb1, TGF-ß, and Smad3. CONCLUSIONS MicroRNA-200c was expressed in hypospadias penis tissues at low levels and was negatively correlated with Zeb1 expression. MicroRNA-200c up-regulated Zeb1 expression to regulate the TGF-ß/Smad3 pathway, which led to the occurrence of hypospadias.

A high-throughput, rapid, sensitive, environmentally friendly, and economical supercritical fluid chromatography with triple quadruple mass spectrometry method was established and validated for the first time to determine a cerebral stroke treatment drug named 3-n-butylphthalide in dog plasma. Plasma samples were prepared by protein precipitation with methanol and the analytes were eluted on an ACQUITY UPC(2TM) HSS-C(18) SB column (3 × 100 mm, 1.8 µm) maintained at 50°C. The mobile phase comprised supercritical carbon dioxide/methanol (90:10, v/v) at a flow rate of 1.5 mL/min, the compensation solvent was methanol at a flow rate of 0.2 mL/min and the total run time was 1.5 min per sample. The detection was carried out on a tandem mass spectrometer with an electrospray ionization source. Calibration curves were linear over the concentration range of 1.02-1021.00 ng/mL (r(2) ≥ 0.993) with the lower limit of quantification of 1.02 ng/mL. The intra- and inter-day precision values were below 15% and the accuracy was from 97.90 to 103.70% at all quality control levels. The method was suitable for a pharmacokinetic study of 3-n-butylphthalide in beagle dogs.

Rationale: Dysregulated T-cell immune response-mediated inflammation plays critical roles in the pathology of diverse liver diseases, but the underlying mechanism of liver immune homeostasis control and the specific therapies for limiting T-cell overactivation remain unclear. Methods: The metabolic changes in concanavalin A (ConA) mice and autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) patients and their associations with liver injury were analyzed. The expression of purine catabolism nucleases (e.g., CD39 and CD73) on liver cells and immune cells was assessed. The effects of MCregs and their extracellular vesicles (EVs) on CD4+ T-cell overactivation and the underlying mechanism were also explored. Results: Our findings revealed significant alterations in purine metabolism in ConA mice and AIH patients, which correlated with liver injury severity and therapeutic response. CD39 and CD73 were markedly upregulated on CD11b+Gr-1+ MCs under liver injury conditions. The naturally expanded CD39+CD73+Gr-1highCD11b+ MCreg subset during early liver injury effectively suppressed CD4+ T-cell hyperactivation and liver injury both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, MCregs released CD73high EVs, which converted extracellular AMP to immunosuppressive metabolites (e.g., adenosine and inosine), activating the cAMP pathway and inhibiting glycolysis and cytokine secretion in activated CD4+ T cells. Conclusions: This study provides insights into the mechanism controlling immune homeostasis during the early liver injury phase and highlights that MCreg or MCreg-EV therapy may be a specific strategy for preventing diverse liver diseases induced by T-cell overactivation.

Radiotherapy-induced prodrug activation provides an ideal solution to reduce the systemic toxicity of chemotherapy in cancer therapy, but the scope of the radiation-activated protecting groups is limited. Here we present that the well-established photoinduced electron transfer chemistry may pave the way for developing versatile radiation-removable protecting groups. Using a functional reporter assay, N-alkyl-4-picolinium (NAP) was identified as a caging group that efficiently responds to radiation by releasing a client molecule. When evaluated in a competition experiment, the NAP moiety is more efficient than other radiation-removable protecting groups discovered so far. Leveraging this property, we developed a NAP-derived carbamate linker that releases fluorophores and toxins on radiation, which we incorporated into antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). These designed ADCs were active in living cells and tumour-bearing mice, highlighting the potential to use such a radiation-removable protecting group for the development of next-generation ADCs with improved stability and therapeutic effects.

Neuroinflammation is considered the principal pathogenic mechanism underlying neurodegenerative diseases, and the incidence of brain disorders is closely linked to dietary fat consumption and intestinal health. To investigate this relationship, 60 8-week-old C57BL/6J mice were subjected to a 20-week dietary intervention, wherein they were fed lard and soybean oil, each at 15% and 35% fat energy. At a dietary fat energy level of 35%, inflammation was observed in both the soybean oil and lard groups. Nevertheless, inflammation was more pronounced in the mice that were administered soybean oil. The process by which nerve cell structure is compromised, inflammatory factors are upregulated, brain antioxidant capacity is diminished, and the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB p65 inflammatory pathway is activated resulting in damage to the brain-gut barrier. This, in turn, leads to a reduction in the abundance of Akkermansia and unclassified_f_Lachnospiraceae, as well as an increase in Dubosiella abundance, ultimately resulting in brain inflammation and damage. These results suggested that soybean oil induces more severe neuroinflammation compared to lard. Our study demonstrated that, at a dietary fat energy level of 35%, compared to soybean oil, lard could be the healthier option, the outcomes would help provide a reference basis for the selection of residents' daily dietary oil.

Background: Rapidly growing healthcare demand associated with global population aging has spurred the development of new digital tools for the assessment of cognitive performance in older adults. Objective: To develop a fully automated Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) assessment model and validate the model's rating consistency. Methods: The Automated Assessment Model for MMSE (AAM-MMSE) was an about 10-min computerized cognitive screening tool containing the same questions as the traditional paper-based Chinese MMSE. The validity of the AAM-MMSE was assessed in term of the consistency between the AAM-MMSE rating and physician rating. Results: A total of 427 participants were recruited for this study. The average age of these participants was 60.6 years old (ranging from 19 to 104 years old). According to the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), the interrater reliability between physicians and the AAM-MMSE for the full MMSE scale AAM-MMSE was high [ICC (2,1)=0.952; with its 95% CI of (0.883,0.974)]. According to the weighted kappa coefficients results the interrater agreement level for audio-related items showed high, but for items "Reading and obey", "Three-stage command", and "Writing complete sentence" were slight to fair. The AAM-MMSE rating accuracy was 87%. A Bland-Altman plot showed that the bias between the two total scores was 1.48 points with the upper and lower limits of agreement equal to 6.23 points and -3.26 points. Conclusions: Our work offers a promising fully automated MMSE assessment system for cognitive screening with pretty good accuracy.

Introduction: Vaccine hesitancy may increase infectious disease burden and impede disease control efforts, while few studies have measured such a phenomenon with a standardized tool in China. This study aimed to test the validation of the Vaccine Hesitancy Scale (VHS) developed by the WHO SAGE Working Group among caregivers and examine demographic characteristics associated with caregiver hesitancy in six provinces of China. Methods: Using a multistage sampling design, this study was conducted in 36 immunization clinics in six provinces from December 2019 to August 2020. Caregivers of children aged 0-3 years were included. The VHS was used to assess vaccine hesitancy. The construct validity and internal consistency of the scale were assessed. Associations between caregivers' characteristics and vaccine hesitancy were examined by simple and multiple linear regression models. Results: Of the 3,359 participants included, a two-factor structure within the scale was identified, consisting of "lack of confidence" (1.89 ± 0.53) and "risks" (3.20 ± 0.75). Caregivers engaged in medical work expressed more confidence and were less concerned about risks compared to those of non-medical staff (p < 0.05). Participants with higher income levels were more confident (p < 0.05), while those surveyed after the COVID-19 pandemic, who were mothers, who had an older child, or who were raising a second or above birth child, had less concern about risks (p < 0.05). Discussion: We found that the VHS had acceptable reliability and construct validity and caregivers' hesitancy was driven more by concerns about risks than by the lack of confidence. Countering these concerns will be particularly important among non-medical staff, lower income, child's fathers, having a younger child, or raising first-birth child groups.

The effects of dietary supplementation with two particle sizes of nano zinc oxide (ZnO) on growth performance, immune function, intestinal morphology, and the gut microbiome were determined in a 42-day broiler chicken feeding experiment. A total of 75 one-day-old Arbor Acres broilers were randomized and divided into three groups with five replicates of five chicks each, including the conventional ZnO group (NC), the nano-ZnO group with an average particle size of 82 nm (ZNPL), and the nano-ZnO group with an average particle size of 21 nm (ZNPS). Each group was supplemented with 40 mg/kg of ZnO or nano-ZnO. Our results revealed that birds in the ZNPS group had a higher average daily gain and a lower feed-to-gain ratio than those in the NC group. ZNPS significantly increased the thymus index and spleen index, as well as the levels of serum metallothionein (MT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and lysozyme (LZM). The ZNPS treatments reduced interleukin (IL)-1ß and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) levels and increased IL-2 and interferon (IFN)-γ levels compared to that in the NC group. Additionally, compared with the birds in the NC group, those in the nano-ZnO group had a higher villus height to crypt depth ratio of the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. Bacteroides increased in the ZNPS group at the genus level. Further, unidentified_Lachnospiraceae, Blautia, Lachnoclostridium, unidentified_Erysipelotrichaceae, and Intestinimonas were significantly increased in the ZNPL group. In conclusion, nano-ZnO improved the growth performance, promoted the development of immune organs, increased nonspecific immunity, improved the villus height to crypt depth ratio of the small intestine, and enriched the abundance of beneficial bacteria. Notably, the smaller particle size (21 nm) of nano-ZnO exhibited a more potent effect.
