RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The neutrophil percentage-to-albumin ratio (NPAR), which is defined as the percentage of neutrophils divided by the concentration of albumin, is a cost-effective and readily available biomarker of inflammation. This study aimed to evaluate the association between the NPAR and the severity of coronary atherosclerosis in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). METHODS: A total of 280 CKD patients who underwent coronary angiography were retrospectively enrolled in this study. The severity of coronary atherosclerosis was evaluated using the Gensini score (GS). Patients were divided into low-, medium- and high-NPAR groups according to the tertiles of the NPAR values. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to analyze the relationship between the NPAR and the GS. The cutoff points for the sensitivity and specificity of the NPAR in predicting the GS were estimated via receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. RESULTS: There was a higher prevalence of coronary artery disease (CAD) among CKD patients with higher NPARs (P =0.041). More patients in the high-NPAR group had complex CAD (triple-vessel disease and/or left main coronary artery stenosis) and chronic total occlusion lesions, and more of these patients required revascularization therapy (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between the NPAR and the severity of coronary stenosis (adjusted OR 2.68, 95% CI 1.25-5.76, p=0.012), particularly among female and older (age ≥65) patients. The ROC analysis indicated that the optimal cutoff value for the NPAR in predicting severe coronary artery stenosis (GS>60) in CKD patients was 1.91 (sensitivity 0.495, specificity 0.749), with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.650 (95% CI 0.581-0.719, P<0.001). A subgroup analysis according to sex revealed that the NPAR exhibited stronger predictive value in female patients (AUC 0.730, 95% CI 0.643-0.817) than in male patients (AUC 0.565, 95% CI 0.460-0.670) (P<0.001), and the optimal cutoff value for the NPAR in female patients was 1.80 (sensitivity 0.667, specificity 0.705). CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that the NPAR is independently associated with the severity of coronary atherosclerosis in CKD patients, especially in female and elderly patients (≥65 years old). Moreover, the NPAR can effectively predict the severity of coronary atherosclerosis, exhibiting greater predictive value in females than in males.

RESUMO

With the development of the integrated circuit and chip industry, electronic products and their components are becoming increasingly miniaturized, high-frequency, and low-loss. These demand higher requirements for the dielectric properties and other aspects of epoxy resins to develop a novel epoxy resin system that meets the needs of current development. This paper employs ethyl phenylacetate cured dicyclopentadiene phenol (DCPD) epoxy resin as the matrix and incorporates KH550 coupling-agent-treated SiO2 hollow glass microspheres to produce composite materials with low dielectric, high heat resistance, and high modulus. These materials are applied as insulation films for high density interconnect (HDI) and substrate-like printed circuit board (SLP) boards. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) technique was used to characterize the reaction between the coupling agent and HGM, as well as the curing reaction between the epoxy resin and ethyl phenylacetate. The curing process of the DCPD epoxy resin system was determined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The various properties of the composite material with different HGM contents were tested, and the mechanism of the impact of HGM on the properties of the composite material was discussed. The results indicate that the prepared epoxy resin composite material exhibits good comprehensive performance when the HGM content is 10 wt.%. The dielectric constant at 10 MHz is 2.39, with a dielectric loss of 0.018. The thermal conductivity is 0.1872 Wm-1 k-1, the coefficient of thermal expansion is 64.31 ppm/K, the glass transition temperature is 172 °C, and the elastic modulus is 1221.13 MPa.

RESUMO

Angelica dahurica (Fisch. ex Hoffm.) Benth.et Hook.f.var.formosana (Boiss.) Shan et Yuan (A. dahurica) is a well-known medicinal plant that has a wide range of applications in the pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic, and other industries. However, the issue of early bolting has emerged as a major hindrance to its production. This problem not only reduces the yield of A. dahurica, but also has an impact on its active ingredients. To date, the molecular factors that contribute to early bolting and its impact on the growth of A. dahurica have not been thoroughly investigated. Therefore, we conducted a transcriptome study using the Illumina NovaSeq 6000 on two developmental types: early-bolting and non-bolting (normal) roots of A. dahurica. We obtained 2,185 up-regulated and 1,414 down-regulated genes in total. Many of the identified transcripts were related to genes involved in early bolting. The gene ontology analysis revealed several differentially expressed genes that are crucial in various pathways, primarily associated with cellular, molecular, and biological processes. Additionally, the morphological characteristics and coumarin content in the early bolting roots of A. dahurica were significantly altered. This study provides insight into the transcriptomic regulation of early bolting in A. dahurica, which can potentially be utilized to enhance its medicinal properties.

RESUMO

The cage and ladder structured phosphorus-containing polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (DOPO-POSS) have been synthesized through the hydrolytic condensation of 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO)-vinyl triethoxysilane (VTES). The unique ladder and cage-ladder structured components in DOPO-POSS endowed it with good solubility in vinyl epoxy resin (VE), and it was used with tetrabutyl titanate (TBT) to construct a phosphorus-silicon-titanium synergy system for the flame retardation of VE. Thermal stabilities, mechanical properties, and flame retardancy of the resultant VE composites were investigated by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), three-point bending tests, limiting oxygen index (LOI) measurement, and cone calorimetry. The experimental results showed that with the addition of only 4 wt% DOPO-POSS and 0.5 wt% TBT, the limiting oxygen index value (LOI) increased from 19.5 of pure VE to 24.2. With the addition of DOPO-POSS and TBT, the peak heat release rate (PHRR), total heat release (THR), smoke production rate (SPR), and total smoke production (TSP) were decreased significantly compared to VE-0. In addition, the VE composites showed improved thermal stabilities and mechanical properties comparable to that of the VE-0. The investigations on pyrolysis volatiles of cured VE further revealed that DOPO-POSS and TBT exerted flame retardant effects in gas phase. The results of char residue of the VE composites by SEM and XPS showed that TBT and DOPO-POSS can accelerate the char formation during the combustion, forming an interior char layer with the honeycomb cavity structure and dense exterior char layer, making the char strong with the formation of Si-O-Ti and Ti-O-P structures.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate 5 years' experience with fine needle aspiration (FNA) of salivary glands at a single academic center. STUDY DESIGN: A total of 191 salivary gland FNAs were performed at Louisiana State University Health Science Center from 2003 to 2007, and all were done on major salivary glands except for 1 case. RESULTS: The cytologic diagnoses included 17 malignancies, 6 atypia, 73 neoplasms, 87 negative and 18 nondiagnostic. Eighty-six cases had histologic follow-up (45.0%). There were 5 false negatives: 2 adenoid cystic carcinomas, 1 acinic cell carcinoma, 1 polymorphous low grade adenocarcinoma and 1 metastatic basaloid squamous cell carcinoma. The only false positive was a pleomorphic adenoma misdiagnosed as adenoid cystic carcinoma. Four reactive processes were diagnosed as benign neoplasms, including 2 granulomatous inflammation and 2 chronic sialadenitis. Five benign neoplasms were interpreted as reactive processes, including 2 Warthin's tumors, 2 sebaceous lymphoadenomas and 1 pleomorphic adenoma. The overall accuracy in distinguishing benign from malignant lesions was 79.1%, and the sensitivity for salivary neoplasia was 89.4%. CONCLUSION: Our results are consistent with the literature that salivary gland FNA has good sensitivity, specificity and accuracy in the diagnosis of salivary neoplasms. FNA can play a significant role in triaging patients with onsite cytologic interpretation and can reduce many unnecessary surgeries.
