OBJECTIVE: Evaluate days alive and out of the hospital (DAOH) as an outcome measure after orthotopic heart transplantation in patients with mechanical circulatory support (MCS) as a bridge to transplant compared to those patients without prior MCS. DESIGN: A retrospective observational study of adult patients who underwent cardiac transplantation between January 1, 2015, and January 1, 2020. The primary outcome was DAOH at 365 days (DAOH365) after an orthotopic heart transplant. A Poisson regression model was fitted to detect the association between independent variables and DAOH365. SETTING: An academic tertiary referral center. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 235 heart transplant patients were included-103 MCS as a bridge to transplant patients, and 132 direct orthotopic heart transplants without prior MCS. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: The median DAOH365 for the entire cohort was 348 days (IQR 335.0-354.0). There was no difference in DAOH365 between the MCS patients and patients without MCS (347.0 days [IQR 336.0-353.0] v 348.0 days [IQR 334.0-354.0], p = 0.43). Multivariate analysis identified patients who underwent a transplant after the 2018 heart transplant allocation change, pretransplant pulmonary hypertension, and increased total ischemic time as predictors of reduced DAOH365. CONCLUSIONS: In this analysis of patients undergoing orthotopic heart transplantation, there was no significant difference in DAOH365 in patients with prior MCS as a bridge to transplant compared to those without MCS. Incorporating days alive and out of the hospital into the pre-transplant evaluation may improve understanding and conceptualization of the post-transplantation patient experience and aid in shared decision-making with clinicians.

BACKGROUND: Malnutrition is common in patients with heart failure (HF) but is often neglected, despite guidelines suggesting that all hospitalised patients should undergo nutritional screening within 24-hours of admission. AIMS: This study investigated the nutritional screening rates and determined the immediate and long-term clinical outcomes in patients with HF admitted at two tertiary hospitals in Australia. METHODS: Nutritional screening was assessed by the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) completion rates. Patients were classified into two categories based on their MUST scores (0=low malnutrition risk and ≥1=at risk of malnutrition). Propensity-score-matching (PSM) was used to match 20 variables depending upon the risk of malnutrition. Clinical outcomes included the days-alive-and-out-of-hospital at 90 days of discharge (DAOH90), length of hospital stay, in-hospital, 30-day and 180-day mortality and 30-day readmissions. RESULTS: There were 5,734 HF admissions between 2013-2020, of whom, only 789 (13.8%) patients underwent MUST screening. The mean (SD) age was 76.2 (14.0) years and 51.9% were males. Five-hundred and fifty-four (554) (70.2%) patients were at low malnutrition risk and 235 (29.8%) at risk of malnutrition. In HF patients, who were at risk of malnutrition, the DAOH90 were lower by 5.9 days (95% CI -11.49 to -0.42, p=0.035) and 180-day mortality was significantly worse (coefficient 0.10, 95% CI 0.02-0.18, p=0.007) compared to those who were at low risk of malnutrition. However, other clinical outcomes were similar between the two groups. CONCLUSION: Nutrition screening is poor in hospitalised HF patients and long-term but not short-term clinical outcomes were worse in malnourished HF patients.

BACKGROUND: Days alive and out of hospital (DAOH) is a composite, patient-centred outcome measure describing a patient's postoperative recovery, encompassing hospitalisation and mortality. DAOH is the number of days not in hospital over a defined postoperative period; patients who die have DAOH of zero. The Standardising Endpoints in Perioperative Medicine (StEP) group recommended DAOH as a perioperative outcome. However, DAOH has never been validated in patients undergoing emergency laparotomy. Here, we validate DAOH after emergency laparotomy and establish the optimal duration of observation. METHODS: Prospectively collected data of patients having emergency laparotomy in England (December 1, 2013-November 30, 2017) were linked to national hospital admission and mortality records for the year after surgery. We evaluated construct validity by assessing DAOH variation with known perioperative risk factors and predictive validity for 1 yr mortality using a multivariate Bayesian mixed-effects logistic regression. The optimal postoperative DAOH period (30 or 90 days) was judged on distributional and pragmatic properties. RESULTS: We analysed 78 921 records. The median 30-day DAOH (DAOH30) was 16 (inter-quartile range [IQR], 0-22) days and the median DAOH90 was 75 (46-82) days. DAOH was shorter in the presence of known perioperative risk factors. For patients surviving the first 30 postoperative days, shorter DAOH30 was associated with higher 1-yr mortality (odds ratio=0.94; 95% credible interval, 0.94-0.94). CONCLUSION: DAOH is a valid, patient-centred outcome after emergency laparotomy. We recommend its use in clinical trials, quality assurance, and quality improvement, measured at 30 days as mortality heavily skews DAOH measured at 90 days and beyond.

BACKGROUND: Mortality is often the primary outcome in randomised clinical trials (RCTs) conducted in critically ill patients. Due to increased awareness on survivors after critical illness and outcomes other than mortality, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and days alive without life support (DAWOLS) or days alive and out of hospital (DAAOOH) are increasingly being used. DAWOLS and DAAOOH convey more information than mortality, are easier to collect than HRQoL, and are usually assessed at earlier time points, which may be preferable in some situations. However, the associations between DAWOLS-DAAOOH and HRQoL are uncertain. METHODS: We will assess associations between DAWOLS-DAAOOH at day 28 and 90 (independent variables/predictors) and HRQoL assessed using the EuroQol EQ-5D-5L questionnaire (EQ-VAS and EQ-5D-5L index values) at 6 or 12 months (dependent variables) in two RCTs: the COVID STEROID 2 RCT conducted in adult patients with COVID-19 and severe hypoxaemia and the Handling Oxygenation Targets in the Intensive Care Unit (HOT-ICU) RCT conducted in adult intensive care patients with acute hypoxaemic respiratory failure. We will describe associations using best-fitting fractional polynomial transformations separately in each dataset, with the resulting models presented and assessed in both datasets graphically and using measures of fit and prediction adequacy (i.e., internal performance and external validation). We will use multiple imputation if missingness exceeds 5%. DISCUSSION: The outlined study will provide important knowledge on the associations between DAWOLS-DAAOOH and HRQoL in adult critically ill patients, which may help researchers and clinical trialists prioritise and select outcomes in future RCTs conducted in this population.

Comprehensive evidence regarding the treatment of non-anaemic iron deficiency in patients undergoing valvular heart surgery is lacking. This study aimed to investigate the association between non-anaemic iron deficiency and postoperative outcomes in these patients. We retrospectively analysed 321 patients of which 180 (56%) had iron deficiency (defined as serum ferritin < 100 ng.ml-1 or < 300 ng.ml-1 with transferrin saturation < 20%). While the iron-deficient group had lower pre-operative haemoglobin levels than the non-iron deficient group (median (IQR [range]) 134 (127-141 [120-172]) g.l-1 , 143 (133-150 [120-179]) g.l-1 , p = 0.001), there was no between-group difference in allogeneic red blood cell transfusion. Median (IQR [range]) days alive and out of hospital at postoperative day 90 was 1 day shorter in the iron-deficient group (80 (77-82 [9-85]) days vs. 81 (79-83 [0-85]) days, p = 0.026). In multivariable analysis, only cardiopulmonary bypass duration (p = 0.032) and intra-operative allogeneic red blood cell transfusion (p = 0.011) were significantly associated with reduced days alive and out of hospital at postoperative day 90. Iron deficiency did not exert any adverse influence on secondary outcomes except length of hospital stay. Our findings indicate that non-anaemic iron deficiency alone is not associated with adverse effects in patients undergoing valvular heart surgery when it does not translate into an increased risk of allogeneic transfusion.

BACKGROUND: Systemic corticosteroid administration for severe acute exacerbations of COPD (AECOPD) reduces the duration of hospital stays. Corticosteroid-sparing regimens have showed non-inferiority to higher accumulated dose regimens regarding re-exacerbation risk in patients with AECOPD. However, it remains unclear whether 14-day or 2-5-day regimens would result in shorter admission durations and changes in mortality risk. We explored this by analysing the number of days alive and out of hospital based on two randomised controlled trials with different corticosteroid regimens. METHODS: We pooled individual patient data from the two available multicentre randomised trials on corticosteroid-sparing regimens for AECOPD: the REDUCE (n = 314) and CORTICO-COP (n = 318) trials. In the 14-day regimen group, patients were older, fewer patients received pre-treatment with antibiotics and more patients received pre-treatment with systemic corticosteroids. Patients randomly allocated to the 14-day and 2-5-day regimens were compared, with adjustment for baseline differences. RESULTS: The number of days alive and out of hospital within 14 days from recruitment was higher for the 2-5 day regimen group (mean 8.4 days; 95% confidence interval [CI] 8.0-8.8) than the 14-day regimen patient group (4.2 days; 95% CI3.4-4.9; p < 0.001). The 14-day AECOPD group had longer hospital stays (mean difference, 5.4 days [standard error ± 0.6]; p < 0.0001) and decreased likelihood of discharge within 30 days (hazard ratio [HR] 0.5; 95% CI 0.4-0.6; p < 0.0001). Comparing the 14-day regimen and the 2-5 day regimen group showed no differences in the composite endpoint 'death or ICU admission' (odds ratio [OR] 1.4; 95% CI 0.8-2.3; p = 0.15), new or aggravated hypertension (OR 1.5; 95% CI 0.9-2.7; p = 0.15), or mortality risk (HR 0.8; 95% CI 0.4-1.5; p = 0.45) during the 6-month follow-up period. CONCLUSION: 14-day corticosteroid regimens were associated with longer hospital stays and fewer days alive and out of hospital within 14 days, with no apparent 6-month benefit regarding death or admission to ICU in COPD patients. Our results favour 2-5 day regimens for treating COPD exacerbations. However, prospective studies are needed to validate these findings.

BACKGROUND: Patient outcome after stroke is frequently assessed with clinical scales such as the modified Rankin Scale score (mRS). Days alive and out of hospital at 90 days (DAOH-90), which measures survival, time spent in hospital or rehabilitation settings, readmission and institutionalization, is an objective outcome measure that can be obtained from large administrative data sets without the need for patient contact. We aimed to assess the comparability of DAOH with mRS and its relationship with other prognostic variables after acute stroke reperfusion therapy. METHODS AND RESULTS: Consecutive patients with ischemic stroke treated with intravenous thrombolysis or endovascular thrombectomy were analyzed. DAOH-90 was calculated from a national minimum data set, a mandatory nationwide administrative database. mRS score at day 90 (mRS-90) was assessed with in-person or telephone interviews. The study included 1278 patients with ischemic stroke (714 male, median age 70 [59-79], median National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score 14 [9-20]). Median DAOH-90 was 71 [29-84] and median mRS-90 score was 3 [2-5]. DAOH-90 was correlated with admission National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score (Spearman rho -0.44, P<0.001) and Alberta Stroke Program Early CT [Computed Tomography] Score (Spearman rho 0.24, P<0.001). There was a strong association between mRS-90 and DAOH-90 (Spearman rho correlation -0.79, P<0.001). Area under receiver operating curve for predicting mRS score >0 was 0.86 (95% CI, 0.84-0.88), mRS score >1 was 0.88 (95% CI, 0.86-0.90) and mRS score >2 was 0.90 (95% CI, 0.89-0.92). CONCLUSIONS: In patients with stroke treated with reperfusion therapies, DAOH-90 shows reasonable comparability to the more established outcome measure of mRS-90. DAOH-90 can be readily obtained from administrative databases and therefore has the potential to be used in large-scale clinical trials and comparative effectiveness studies.

Purpose: The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is an extensively analyzed prognostic inflammatory index in cardiac patients. The degree of change in NLR values before and after surgery (delta-NLR) can represent the inflammatory response induced by surgery and serve as a meaningful prognostic biomarker in surgical patients; however, this has not been well investigated. We aimed to investigate the predictive value of the perioperative NLR and delta-NLR for outcomes of off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) surgery by evaluating "days alive and out of hospital (DAOH)", a novel patient-centered outcome. Patients and Methods: In this single-center retrospective study, perioperative data, including NLR data, from 1322 patients were analyzed. The primary endpoint was DOAH at 90 days postoperatively (DAOH 90), and the secondary endpoint was long-term mortality. Linear regression analysis and Cox regression analysis were performed to identify independent risk factors for the endpoints. In addition, Kaplan-Meier survival curves were plotted to assess long-term mortality. Results: The median NLR values significantly increased from 2.2 (1.6-3.1) at baseline to 7.4 (5.4-10.3) postoperatively, with median delta-NLR values of 5.0 (3.2-7.6). Preoperative NLR and delta-NLR were independent risk factors for short DAOH 90 in the linear regression analysis. In Cox regression analysis, delta-NLR, but not preoperative NLR, was an independent risk factor for long-term mortality. When patients were divided into two groups according to delta-NLR, the high delta-NLR group had a shorter DAOH 90 than the low delta-NLR group. Kaplan-Meier curves showed higher long-term mortality in the high delta-NLR group than in the low delta-NLR group. Conclusion: In OPCAB patients, preoperative NLR and delta-NLR were significantly associated with DAOH 90, and delta-NLR was an independent risk factor for long-term mortality, indicating their role in risk assessment, which is essential for perioperative management.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of a transitional care intervention (TCI) on readmission among older medical inpatients. METHODS: This non-randomised quasi-experimental study was conducted at Horsens Regional Hospital in Denmark from 1 February 2017 to 31 December 2018. Inclusion criteria were patients ≥ 75 years old admitted for at least 48 h. First, patients were screened for eligibility. Then, the allocation to the intervention or control group was performed according to the municipality of residence. Patients living in three municipalities were offered the hospital-based intervention, and patients living in a fourth municipality were allocated to the control group. The intervention components were (1) discharge transportation with a home visit, (2) a post-discharge cross-sectorial video conference and (3) seven-day telephone consultation. The primary outcome was 30-day unplanned readmission. Secondary outcomes were 30- and 90-day mortality and days alive and out of hospital (DAOH). RESULTS: The study included 1205 patients (intervention: n = 615; usual care: n = 590). In the intervention group, the median age was 84.3 years and 53.7% were females. In the control group, the median age was 84.9 years and 57.5% were females. The 30-day readmission rates were 20.8% in the intervention group and 20.2% in the control group. Adjusted relative risk was 1.00 (95% confidence interval: 0.80, 1.26; p = 0.99). No significant difference was found between the groups for the secondary outcomes. CONCLUSION: The TCI did not impact readmission, mortality or DAOH. Future research should conduct a pilot test, address intervention fidelity and consider real-world challenges. OBJECTIVES: Days alive and out of hospital (DAOH) integrates overall information of hospitalization, readmissions, and mortality that have been applied as a new outcome measure. However, DAOH after video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) in an established enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) programme has not been reported. METHODS: Patients aged ≥18 years with non-small-cell lung cancer undergoing VATS lobectomy in an established ERAS programme were eligible. The primary and secondary outcomes were DAOH during the first postoperative 365 days and reasons for reduced DAOH. RESULTS: A total of 316 consecutive patients with well-defined inclusion criteria and complete follow-up were assessed retrospectively. The median length of stay was 3 days (IQR 2-6). The medians (IQR) of postoperative 30, 60, 90, 180 and 365 DAOH were 27 (22-28), 57 (51-58), 86 (80-88), 176 (169-178) and 359 (349-363) days, respectively. Air leak was the dominant factor for reduced DAOH from postoperative day (POD) 0-30 (47.2%) and 0-365 (38.3%). Side effects of adjuvant chemotherapy were dominant from POD 31-60 and 61-90 (23.5% and 47.1%) and recurrence/metastases from POD 91-180 and 181-365 (25.6% and 50.0%). A low diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (odds ratios 1.28, 95% confidence interval 1.07-1.53; P=0.007) and prior surgical history (odds ratios 1.80, 95% confidence interval 1.08-2.99; P=0.023) were predictors for low DAOH. CONCLUSIONS: DAOH after 1 year with an established VATS lobectomy ERAS programme was only reduced with a median of 6 days. The main factors reducing DAOH were air leak, adjuvant chemotherapy and recurrence. DAOH may be an important patient-centred outcome to define future improvement strategies.

Background: Meaningful patient centered outcomes of critical illness such as functional status, cognition and mental health are studied using validated measurement tools that may often be impractical outside the research setting. The Electronic health record (EHR) contains a plethora of information pertaining to these domains. We sought to determine how feasible and reliable it is to assess meaningful patient centered outcomes from the EHR. Methods: Two independent investigators reviewed EHR of a random sample of ICU patients looking at documented assessments of trajectory of functional status, cognition, and mental health. Cohen's kappa was used to measure agreement between 2 reviewers. Post ICU health in these domains 12 month after admission was compared to pre- ICU health in the 12 months prior to assess qualitatively whether a patient's condition was "better," "unchanged" or "worse." Days alive and out of hospital/health care facility was a secondary outcome. Results: Thirty six of the 41 randomly selected patients (88%) survived critical illness. EHR contained sufficient information to determine the difference in health status before and after critical illness in most survivors (86%). Decline in functional status (36%), cognition (11%), and mental health (11%) following ICU admission was observed compared to premorbid baseline. Agreement between reviewers was excellent (kappa ranging from 0.966 to 1). Eighteen patients (44%) remained home after discharge from hospital and rehabilitation during the 12- month follow up. Conclusion: We demonstrated the feasibility and reliability of assessing the trajectory of changes in functional status, cognition, and selected mental health outcomes from EHR of critically ill patients. If validated in a larger, representative sample, these outcomes could be used alongside survival in quality improvement studies and pragmatic clinical trials.

BACKGROUND: The optimal coronary revascularization strategy to maximize the patient-centered outcome of days alive and out of hospital (DAOH), in multimorbid older (≥65-years) adults after an acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is incompletely understood. METHODS: Using Kaiser Permanente Northern California Health Plan databases, we identified 3871 patients ≥65-years presenting with ACS between 1/1/2010-3/1/2018 who underwent coronary revascularization with either coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG, N = 1575) or multivessel percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI, N = 2296). Selection bias was accounted for through propensity score modeling techniques and inverse probability of treatment weighting. Cox proportional hazards models were fit to evaluate the association of revascularization type with outcomes. PRIMARY OUTCOMES: Absolute DAOH and the relative risk of achieving ≥90%DAOH during three time intervals. SECONDARY OUTCOMES: All-cause mortality, recurrent MI, stroke, rehospitalization, repeat revascularization, and dialysis initiation. RESULTS: CABG (compared to PCI) was associated with greater absolute number of DAOH, significant after the first year (mean difference at 1-year: +5.8 days, 95% confidence interval [CI], -1.6 to 13 days; 3-years: +56 days, 95%CI, +25 to +88 days; 5-years: + 131 days, 95%CI, +57 to +205 days). The relative risk of achieving ≥90% DAOH significantly favored CABG after the first year (1-year:1.02, 95%CI, 0.98-1.05; 3-years:1.06, 95%CI 1.002-1.11, 5-years:1.12, 95%CI, 1.03-1.22), and was related to lower incidences of all-cause mortality, repeat revascularization, rehospitalization, incident dialysis, and nonfatal MI with CABG. CONCLUSIONS: In older adults with multivessel or left main coronary artery disease who presented with ACS, CABG, after the first year, was associated with a greater absolute number of DAOH-a geriatric and patient-centered outcome, compared to PCI. CABG patients also had a higher probability of achieving ≥90%DAOH-with lower all-cause mortality, recurrent MI, repeat revascularization, new dialysis, and rehospitalization rates. Future randomized trials should study the impact of optimal revascularization strategies on the quality of life of older adults with multimorbidity.

AIMS: Primary graft dysfunction (PGD) is a feared complication after heart transplantation (HTX). HTX patients frequently receive veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) until graft recovery. Long-term mortality of patients weaned from VA-ECMO after HTX is comparable with non-ECMO patients. However, impact on quality of life is unknown. This study investigated days alive and out of hospital (DAOH) as patient-centred outcome in HTX patients at 1 year after surgery. METHODS AND RESULTS: This retrospective single-centre cohort study included patients who underwent HTX at the University Hospital Düsseldorf, Germany, from 2010 to 2020. Main exposure was VA-ECMO due to PGD. VA-ECMO and non-VA-ECMO patients were compared regarding the primary endpoint DAOH at 1 year after HTX. Subgroup analysis for patients weaned from VA-ECMO was performed. In total, 144 patients were included into analysis; 1 year mortality was significantly lower in non-ECMO patients [non-ECMO 14.3% (14/98) vs. VA-ECMO 34.8% (16/46), adjusted hazard ratio: 0.32, 95% confidence interval: 0.15-0.74; P = 0.002]. Mortality did not differ significantly between patients weaned from VA-ECMO and non-ECMO patients [non-ECMO 14.3% (14/98) vs. VA-ECMO (weaned) 18.9% (7/37), adjusted hazard ratio: 0.72, 95% confidence interval: 0.27-1.90; P = 0.48]. DAOH were significantly higher in non-ECMO patients compared with VA-ECMO patients and patients weaned from VA-ECMO [non-ECMO vs. VA-ECMO: median 310 (inter-quartile range 277-327) days vs. 243 (0-288) days; P < 0.0001; non-ECMO vs. VA-ECMO (weaned): 310 (277-327) days vs. 253 (208-299) days; P < 0.0001]. These results were still significant after multivariable adjustment with forced entry of predefined covariables. CONCLUSIONS: Despite similar survival rates, VA-ECMO due to PGD has a relevant life impact as defined by DAOH in the first year after HTX. As a more patient-centred endpoint, DAOH may contribute to a more comprehensive assessment of outcome in HTX patients.

BACKGROUND: With the rising incidence of oropharyngeal squamous cell cancer, there is a need to assess the burden of treatment. AIMS/OBJECTIVES: This study assessed 'days alive and out of hospital' (DAOH) in a cohort of patients with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) treated with either transoral robotic surgery (TORS) or radiotherapy (RT). MATERIAL AND METHODS: A prospective cohort study conducted between May 2017-June 2019. Primary outcome was DAOH in the first 30 days after treatment (DAOH30). The secondary outcome was DAOH180. RESULTS: Forty-four patients were included, 31 treated with TORS and 13 with RT. Patients treated with TORS had a median DAOH30 of 25 (IQR 22.8-26) including a required four-day postoperative stay- and a median DAOH180 of 168 (IQR 163-171.3). In contrast, patients treated with RT had a median DAOH30 of 30 (IQR 26-30) and a DAOH180 of 143 days (IQR 135.5-149). CONCLUSIONS AND SIGNIFICANCE: DAOH has not been examined in oropharyngeal cancer before. We found, patients overall spent 92.5% of the first 180 days alive and out of hospital. Patients treated with TORS had high DAOH30, which remained high in DAOH180, while patients treated with RT with reduced DAOH30, had reduced DAOH180 calling for further large-scale studies.

OBJECTIVE: Cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) devices have been shown to improve heart failure (HF) symptoms, survival and improve quality of life (QoL). We evaluated the overall impact of CRT on recurrent hospitalisations and survival in real-world patients with HF. DESIGN: Retrospective observational study. SETTING: Northern region of New Zealand. PARTICIPANTS: Patients with HF who underwent CRT device implantation in between 2008 and 2014 were followed up for 1 year. INTERVENTIONS: CRT. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOMES MEASURED: Survival, all-cause hospitalisations, length of stay, from which days alive and out of hospital (DAOH) were calculated. RESULTS: 177patients were included, of whom eight died (4.5%) within 1 year of follow-up. Pre-CRT implantation, 83% of all patients had been hospitalised for a total 248 hospitalisation events. Following CRT, 47 patients (27%) were readmitted to hospital within 1 year (total of 98 admissions; p<0.01 compared with pre-device implant). Length of hospital stay was significantly shorter than in the year prior to CRT implantation at a median of 4 (IQR 2-6) vs 7 (IQR 3.5-10.5) days (p=0.03). An increase in the median number of DAOH was observed from 362 (IQR 355-364) to 365 (IQR 364-365) (p<0.01) after CRT implant. The improvement in DAOH was seen regardless of gender and type of CRT devices. Greater DAOH was also seen in those with non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy and Caucasians. CONCLUSION: After CRT implant, patients with HF have greater DAOH with reduction of total hospitalisation and fewer hospital days. These results support CRT devices use as a treatment option for appropriate HF patients. DAOH represents an easily measured, patient-centred endpoint that may reflect effectiveness of interventions in future CRT studies.
