RESUMO

We report nine cases of elderly French patients (more than 65 years old) with bronchial tuberculosis. We report the clinical features, radiological and endoscopic aspects. The symptoms are non specific and may delay the diagnostic. The chest X-ray and endoscopic aspects are tumor like. Retractile bronchial stenosis is a potential evolution.

RESUMO

We report the case of an elderly man in whom a small squamous cell carcinoma was discovered by chance during fibroscopy performed for another reason. A control endoscopy performed 4 years later gave perfectly normal results, although this patient had not received any treatment. Up to now, only 3 other cases of proven spontaneous regression of squamous cell bronchial carcinoma have been published.

RESUMO

The authors describe two cases of pulmonary fibrosis in patients suffering from ankylosing spondylitis. The diagnosis of tuberculosis was rejected on the basis of negative studies for tubercle bacilli and the total ineffectiveness of specific therapy. No evidence of microbial or parasitic infection was found. This fibrosis was associated with a considerable worsening in general condition. Nevertheless, the first patient remains alive 15 years after the onset of this pathological manifestation. The second patient died but autopsy was not possible. A wide review of the literature is undertaken in the light of these two cases.

RESUMO

Electron microscope studies of liver biopsies in 32 cases of hepatitis with Australia antigen (aggressive chronic hepatitis, polyarteritis, hepatitis on alcoholic cirrhosis and in kidney transplants) showed original intranuclear formations. They are different from the usual viral type particles connected with Australia antigen and appear to be formed of dense, granulofilamentous accumulations, scattered at random in the nucleus, sometimes in close proximity of nucleoles and nuclear bodies. Within these accumulations outlines of complete or partial rounded particles have been observed the morphology of which resembled that of the usual intranuclear particles. Comparison with former descriptions of the chronological aspects of viral replication allowed the author to refer to these formations by the term of "viroplasms". Thus, they are considered representative of an intermediate stage in the formation of the nuclear particles. This interpretation would add an argument to the notion of nuclear replication of the particles related to Australia antigen.
