RESUMO

Sensing pressure and temperature are two important functions of human skin that integrate different types of tactile receptors. In this paper, a deformable artificial flexible multi-stimulus-responsive sensor is demonstrated that can distinguish mechanical pressure from temperature by measuring the impedance and the electrical phase at the same frequency without signal interference. The electrical phase, which is used for measuring the temperature, is totally independent of the pressure by controlling the surface micro-shapes and the ion content of the ionic film. By doping the counter-ion exchange reagent into the ionic liquid before pouring, the upper temperature measuring limit increases from 35 to 50 °C, which is higher than the human body temperature and the ambient temperature on Earth. The sensor shows high sensitivity to pressure (up to 0.495 kPa-1) and a wide temperature sensing range (-10 to 50 °C). A multimodal ion-electronic skin (IEM-skin) with an 8 × 8 multi-stimulus-responsive sensor array is fabricated and can successfully sense the distribution of temperature and pressure at the same time. Finally, the sensors are used for monitoring the touching motions of a robot-arm finger controlled by a remote interactive glove and successfully detect the touching states and the temperature changes of different objects.

RESUMO

The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread across the world and was characterized as a pandemic. To protect medical laboratory personnel from infection, most laboratories inactivate the virus causing COVID-19, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), in clinical samples before testing. However, the effect of inactivation on the detection results remains unknown. Here, we used a digital PCR assay to determine the absolute SARS-CoV-2 RNA copy number in 63 nasopharyngeal swab samples and assess the effect of inactivation methods on viral RNA copy number. Viral inactivation was performed by three different methods: (i) incubation with the TRIzol LS reagent for 10 min at room temperature, (ii) heating in a water bath at 56°C for 30 min, and (iii) high-temperature treatment, including autoclaving at 121°C for 20 min, boiling at 100°C for 20 min, and heating at 80°C for 20 min. Compared to the amount of RNA in the original sample, TRIzol treatment destroyed 47.54% of the nucleocapsid protein (N) gene and 39.85% of open reading frame (ORF) 1ab. For samples treated at 56°C for 30 min, the copy number of the N gene and ORF 1ab was reduced by 48.55% and 56.40%, respectively. The viral RNA copy number dropped by 50 to 66% after heating at 80°C for 20 min. Nearly no viral RNA was detected after autoclaving at 121°C or boiling at 100°C for 20 min. These results indicate that inactivation reduced the quantity of detectable viral RNA and may cause false-negative results, especially in weakly positive cases. Thus, use of the TRIzol reagent rather than heat inactivation is recommended for sample inactivation, as the TRIzol reagent had the least effect on the RNA copy number among the tested methods.

RESUMO

A direct soft imprint lithography was proposed to realize the direct fabrication of residue-free, well-shaped functional patterns through a single step. This imprint method requires only a simply prepared isopropanol-treated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) stamp without any additional resists. Residue-free Ag patterns were successfully fabricated on different substrates by directly imprinting the Ag ink with the isopropanol-treated PDMS stamp. Furthermore, the coffee-ring effect of the imprinting Ag patterns can be eliminated by optimizing the imprinting time, isopropanol-treating time, and imprinting temperatures. Studies show that the residual Ag ink in the contact region can be absorbed by the isopropanol-treated PDMS stamp due to the "like dissolves like" principle. Finally, this method was employed to fabricate the Ag electrodes for the thin-film transistors, attaining a mobility of ∼8 cm2 V-1 s-1, which is comparable to those with vacuum-processed electrodes. This process provides a simple, low-cost, residue-free, coffee-ring-free, and fast patterning method in the field of microelectronics.

RESUMO

Background: Dengue, a mosquito-borne viral disease, has occurred in many cities in China, and it tends to spread to higher latitudes (Huang et al., 2023). Xi'an, situated in central-west China, has witnessed an increase imported cases in the past few years, raising concerns of local dengue transmission. It is crucial to investigate the population density of Aedes albopictus and its insecticides resistance to enhance early warning of dengue fever. Methods: Eight sampling sites in eight counties (YT, BL, WY, CH, YL, LN, LT, ZZ) of Xi'an city were surveyed by larval dipping and human-baited double net trap biweekly from June 2021 to September 2022. The Breteau Index (BI, number of positive containers per 100 houses) and Container Index (CI, the percentage of containers containing larvae or pupae) were used to assess larval density, and the human-baited double net trap (HDN, the number of Ae. albopictus females collected per person per hour) to indicate human bating rate (HBR). Meanwhile, the association between the meteorological factors and mosquito density was analyzed. The Ae. albopictus adult insecticides resistance was evaluated by the World Health Organization (WHO) standard resistance bioassay. Adult females were exposed to insecticide-impregnated paper for 1 h, then transferred to the recovery tube, and mortality rate was calculated after 24 h. According to the Implementation Plan for National Vector Surveillance (2016), resistance status was classified into three levels based on mortality: <80% mortality as resistant, between 80% and 98% mortality as possibly resistant, and >98% mortality as sensitive. Results: From June 2021 to September 2022, a total of 1,065 houses were surveyed for water holding containers, and 99 of 430 water holding containers were checked to be positive for Ae. albopictus larvae and pupae. A total of 1,048 Ae. albopictus females were collected. The average BI, CI and HBR were 10.39, 21.41, and 11.20 female/man/hour in 2021 and 8.86, 20.86, and 11.63 f/m/h in 2022, respectively. The findings showed that the BI exceeded 5 in most months and reached above 20 in specific months. The CI varied in different months and monitoring sites, with the highest CI in August 2021 and July 2022. The discarded tires had the highest positivity rate, with up to 40.32% testing positive for Ae. albopictus larvae. The monthly average temperature showed a positive correlation with CI (r = 0.77), and the monthly BI was positively associated with CI (r = 0.93). The BI, CI, and HBR were significantly higher in the rainy season than other seasons. The bioassay results showed that the mortality rate of Ae. albopictus at the YT monitoring site was 76.92%, indicating resistance to deltamethrin. The mortality rate of Ae. Albopictus at BL, WY, CH, YL, LN, LT, and ZZ sampling sites were varying from 81.25%∼100%, suggesting possibly resistant or still sensitive to beta-cypermethrin, alpha-cypermethrin, malathion, chlorpyrifos, and propoxur.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Little evidence exists about whether a combination of healthy lifestyle factors is associated with a lower risk of depressive symptoms among Chinese population. We aimed to investigate the association between combined healthy lifestyle factors and risk of depressive symptoms. METHODS: We conducted a baseline survey from July 2021 to December 2023, including 53,642 Chinese adults from general population. A healthy lifestyle score was constructed based on six lifestyle factors (physical activity, smoking status, alcohol consumption, diet, sleep duration, and body mass index). Logistic regression models were used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs) adjusted for confounding variables. RESULTS: Each additional healthy lifestyle score was associated with a 20 % lower risk of having depressive symptoms (OR (95 % CI): 0.80 (0.78-0.81)). Compared with individuals with ≤2 healthy lifestyle factors, individuals with all the six healthy lifestyle factors had a 58 % reduced risk of having depressive symptoms (0.42 (0.37-0.47)). After stratification by gender, education and urbanization, the significant inverse association with healthy lifestyle score was stronger in women, individuals with high education, and urban residents. Besides, the significant negative association between healthy lifestyle score and depressive symptoms remained for different severity of depressive symptoms. LIMITATIONS: Given the cross-sectional nature of data, we cannot make causal inferences. CONCLUSIONS: Our study indicated that adherence to healthy lifestyle factors was associated with a reduced risk of having depressive symptoms among Chinese adults. The observed associations were modified by gender, education and urbanization. These findings warrant further verification in interventional studies.

RESUMO

It is well-established that light therapy can alleviate cognitive impairment, and ambient illumination (AI) can quantify the amount of exposure to light. However, the relationship between AI and cognitive impairment has been largely understudied. Objectives. We aimed to examine the cross-sectional associations between AI and impaired cognition using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) (2011-2013) database. Methods. The correlation between AI and cognitive impairment was analyzed using multivariate logistic regression models. Nonlinear correlations were explored using curve fitting. Results. Multivariate logistic regression yielded an OR of 0.872 (95% CI 0.699, 1.088) for the association between AI and cognitive impairment after adjusting for covariates. Smooth curve fitting showed that the correlation was nonlinear, with an inflection point at 1.22. Conclusions. These results suggested that the level of AI may be linked to cognitive impairment. We found a nonlinear relationship of AI with cognitive impairment.

RESUMO

In order to provide evidence for clinical application, the therapeutic effect and mechanism of Huangqi Bazhen decoction on chemotherapeutic intestinal mucositis induced by capecitabine in mice are investigated. In this paper, the mice are divided into different groups and given capecitabine intragastric administration or treatment drugs. Morphological features of intestinal injury, including villus height shortening, crypt destruction, and apoptosis, are reversed. The experimental results show that Huangqi Bazhen decoction can significantly reduce weight loss and diarrhea during capecitabine treatment. It is also found that GSH-Px and T-SOD can be improved while MDA, IL-1ß, and TNF-α are reduced significantly.

RESUMO

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common infectious disease in the Asia-Pacific region that primarily affects children younger than 5 years. Previous studies have confirmed that the seasonal transmission of this disease is strongly related to meteorological factors, but the results are not consistent. In addition, the associations between weather conditions and HFMD in northwestern China have not been investigated. Therefore, we aimed to examine this issue in Xi'an, the largest city of northwestern China that has been suffering from serious HFMD epidemics. In the current study, data for HFMD and six meteorological factors were collected from 2009 to 2018. Using cross-correlation analysis, the Granger causality test, and the distributed lag nonlinear model, we estimated the quantitative relationships and exposure-lag-response effects between weekly meteorological factors and HFMD incidence among children. We found that the seasonal distribution of HFMD in Xi'an has two peaks each year and is significantly impacted by the weekly temperature, precipitation, and evaporation over an 8-week period. Higher values of temperature and evaporation had positive associations with disease transmission, whereas the association between precipitation and HFMD showed an inverted-U shape. The maximum relative risks (RRs) of HFMD for the weekly mean temperature (approximately 31.1°C), weekly cumulative evaporation (57.9 mm), and weekly cumulative precipitation (30.0 mm) were 1.56 (95% CI: 1.35-1.81), 1.40 (95% CI: 1.05-1.88), and 1.16 (95% CI: 1.11-1.70), respectively. The identified risk determinants and lag effects could provide important information for early interventions to reduce the local disease burden.

RESUMO

A quantitative analysis of trace lead in tin-base lead-free solder was carried out with laser-induced plasma spectroscopy (LIPS). In order to evaluate the applicability of the technique for rapid in situ analytical purposes, measurements were performed in air at atmospheric pressure, and the emission characteristics of the plasma produced by a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser over a laser energy range of 10 - 90 mJ were investigated using time-resolved spectroscopy. The experimental results showed that the emission intensity of the analysis line (Pb I 405.78 nm) was maximized at a laser energy of around 30 mJ, and a time-resolved measurement of a spectrum with a delay time of 0.4 micros after the laser pulse was effective for reducing the background continuum. Based on the results, lead-free solder certified reference materials were analyzed for trace lead (concentration 174 - 1940 ppm), and a linear calibration curve was obtained with a detection limit of several tens ppm.
