RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Tan Spot (TS) disease of wheat is caused by Pyrenophora tritici-repentis (Ptr), where most of the yield loss is linked to diseased flag leaves. As there are no fully resistant cultivars available, elucidating the responses of wheat to Ptr could inform the derivation of new resistant genotypes. OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to characterise the flag-leaf metabolomes of two spring wheat cultivars (Triticum aestivum L. cv. PF 080719 [PF] and cv. Fundacep Horizonte [FH]) following challenge with Ptr to gain insights into TS disease development. METHODS: PF and FH plants were inoculated with a Ptr strain that produces the necrotrophic toxin ToxA. The metabolic changes in flag leaves following challenge (24, 48, 72, and 96 h post-inoculation [hpi]) with Ptr were investigated using untargeted flow infusion ionisation-high resolution mass spectroscopy (FIE-HRMS). RESULTS: Both cultivars were susceptible to Ptr at the flag-leaf stage. Comparisons of Ptr- and mock-inoculated plants indicated that a major metabolic shift occurred at 24 hpi in FH, and at 48 hpi in PF. Although most altered metabolites were genotype specific, they were linked to common pathways; phenylpropanoid and flavonoid metabolism. Alterations in sugar metabolism as well as in glycolysis and glucogenesis pathways were also observed. Pathway enrichment analysis suggested that Ptr-triggered alterations in chloroplast and photosynthetic machinery in both cultivars, especially in FH at 96 hpi. In a wheat-Ptr interactome in integrative network analysis, "flavone and flavonol biosynthesis" and "starch and sucrose metabolism" were targeted as the key metabolic processes underlying PF-FH-Ptr interactions. CONCLUSION: These observations suggest the potential importance of flavone and flavonol biosynthesis as well as bioenergetic shifts in susceptibility to Ptr. This work highlights the value of metabolomic approaches to provide novel insights into wheat pathosystems.

RESUMO

Fusarium wilt, caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. apii (Foa), constitute a vascular disease affecting celery. This soil-borne pathogen is classified into four distinct pathogenic races: 1, 2, 3, and 4. Notably, race 4 emerges as the most virulent, representing the latest evolutionary development of this pathogen, which was first reported in 2013 in California. In 2022, celery plants in South Florida exhibited typical Fusarium wilt symptoms, with the disease reaching a 100% incidence and causing yield losses ranging from 20% to 100%. Given the significance of celery as a vegetable crop and the severity of this outbreak, the primary objective of this study was to identify and characterize the causal agent of Fusarium wilt in South Florida. The second goal aimed to test the pathogenicity and virulence of the Fusarium isolates from Florida on celery and parsley plants. Using race-specific primers and dual-loci phylogenetic analyses, the isolates surveyed in this study were identified as Foa race 4. Pathogenicity assays in the greenhouse showed that the Foa race 4 isolate from celery induced disease not only on the two celery cultivars (Duda 30 and Duda 71) but also on two commonly cultivated parsley varieties (Curly and Italian). Our study also revealed that Foa race 4 significantly (P < 0.05) affected plant health attributes in all cultivars, including plant height, total plant weight, and root weight. Interestingly, the pathogen exhibited higher (P < 0.0001) virulence on parsley than celery based on vascular discoloration. These findings strongly indicate the urgency of comprehending and managing Fusarium wilt on celery and related crops. Furthermore, the ability of Foa race 4 to affect different plant species highlights a potential threat to agricultural production, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to mitigate the impact of this virulent pathogen.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Influenza infection is a highly preventable transmissible viral disease associated with mild upper respiratory symptoms and more severe conditions such as lethal pneumonia. Studies have shown that a broader spectrum influenza vaccine could reduce influenza's burden of disease in low- and middle-income countries. A considerable number of systematic reviews reported that quadrivalent influenza vaccines are considered more effective compared to trivalent vaccines, hence, there is a need for an overview in order to synthesize the current evidence pertaining to the comparison between quadrivalent and trivalent inactivated influenza vaccines. OBJECTIVE: The aim was to summarize the evidence from systematic reviews that investigated the immunogenicity and safety of the Influenza's inactivated quadrivalent vaccine (QIV) compared to the trivalent vaccine (TIV), in the general population. METHODS: We searched articles up to December 2022 at: Web of Science, EMBASE, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and SCOPUS. The search strategy was conducted following the PICO model. We included systematic reviews comparing the primary outcomes of immunogenicity (seroprotection rate and seroconversion rate) and adverse events using risk ratios. The AMSTAR 2 and ROBIS were used for quality assessments, and GRADE was used for evidence certainty assessments. FINDINGS: We included five systematic reviews, totalling 47,740 participants. The Quadrivalent Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (QIV) exhibited enhanced immunogenicity in the context of B-lineage mismatch when compared to the Trivalent Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (TIV). While the safety profile of QIV was found to be comparable to that of TIV, the QIV showed a higher incidence of solicited local pain among children and adolescents, as well as an increased frequency of local adverse events within the adult population. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that the QIV provides a superior immunogenicity response compared to the TIV in all age groups evaluated, especially when a lineage mismatch occurred. The safety of QIV was considered similar to the TIV, with no serious or systemic solicited or unsolicited adverse events; tough pain at the injection site was greater for QIV. We recommend caution owing to the high risk of bias in the selection process and no protocol registration.

RESUMO

The so-coined fourth paradigm in science has reached the sensing area, with the use of machine learning (ML) toward data-driven improvements in sensitivity, reproducibility, and accuracy, along with the determination of multiple targets from a single measurement using multi-output regression models. Particularly, the use of supervised ML models trained on large data sets produced by electrical and electrochemical bio/sensors has emerged as an impacting trend in the literature by allowing accurate analyses even in the presence of usual issues such as electrode fouling, poor signal-to-noise ratio, chemical interferences, and matrix effects. In this trend article, apart from an outlook for the coming years, we present examples from the literature that demonstrate how helpful ML algorithms can be for dispensing the adoption of experimental methods to address the aforesaid interfering issues, ultimately contributing to translate testing technologies into on-site, practical, and daily applications.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Despite its homeostatic role, inflammation is involved in several pathologies, such as acute lung injury. Morita-Ballys-Hilman adducts (MBHA) are a group of synthetic molecules and present a wide range of biological activities, including anti-inflammatory action. Thus, this study aimed to assess whether ISACN, an MBHA, modulates inflammation during acute lung injury induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). METHODS: BALB/c mice were intraperitoneally treated with 24 mg/kg ISACN and challenged with LPS (2.5 mg/kg). On bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), we assessed the total and differential leukocyte count and measurement of protein leakage, cytokines (IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-α), and chemokine (CXCL-1). Additionally, lung histopathology was also performed (H&E staining). In vitro studies were conducted with peritoneal macrophages to assess the possible mechanism of action. They were cultured in the presence of ISACN (5 and 10 µM) and stimulated by LPS (1 µg/mL). RESULTS: ISACN reduced neutrophil migration, protein leakage, and inflammatory cytokines (IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-α) without interfering with the production of CXCL1. In addition, ISACN caused a decrease in LPS-induced lung injury as evident from histopathological changes. In peritoneal macrophages, ISACN diminishes the nitric oxide and cytokine levels (IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-α). The treatment with ISACN (10 µM) also reduced LPS-induced TLR4, CD69, iNOS overexpression, and the LPS-induced ERK, JNK, and p38 phosphorylation. CONCLUSION: Thus, this work showed for the first time the immunomodulatory action of MBHA in LPS-induced acute lung injury and provided new evidence for the mechanisms related to the anti-inflammatory effect of ISACN.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Lung cancer is the deadliest cancer worldwide and in Brazil. Despite strong evidence, lung cancer screening by low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) in high-risk individuals is far from a reality in many countries, particularly in Brazil. Brazil has a universal public health system marked with important inequalities. One affordable strategy to increase the coverage of resources is to use mobile units. OBJECTIVES: To describe the implementation and results of an innovative lung cancer prevention program that integrates tobacco cessation and lung cancer screening using a mobile CT unit. METHODOLOGY: From May 2019 to Dec 2020, health professionals from 18 public primary health care units in Barretos, Brazil, were trained to offer smoking cessation counseling and treatment. Eligible high-risk participants of this program were also invited to perform lung cancer screening in a mobile LDCT unit that was specially conceived to be dispatched to the community. A detailed epidemiological questionnaire was administered to the LDCT participants. RESULTS: Among the 233 screened participants, the majority were women (54.9%), and the average age was 62 years old. A total of 52.8% of participants showed high or very high nicotine dependence. After 1 year, 27.8% of participants who were involved in smoking cessation groups had quit smoking. The first LDCT round revealed that the majority of participants (83.7%) exhibited lung-Rads 1 or 2; 7.3% exhibited lung-Rads 3; 7.7% exhibited lung-Rads 4a; and 3% exhibited lung-Rads 4b or 4x. The three participants with lung-Rads 4b were further confirmed, and their surgery led to the diagnosis of early-stage cancer (1 case of adenocarcinoma and two cases of squamous cell carcinoma), leading to a cancer diagnosis rate of 12.8/1000. CONCLUSION: Our results indicate promising outcomes for an onsite integrative program enrolling high-risk individuals in a middle-income country. Evidence barriers and challenges remain to be overcome.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Dietary patterns can influence maternal and child health outcomes. The study aims to characterize dietary patterns during pregnancy as well as to identify their associations with gestational weight gain (GWG) and anthropometric measurements at birth. METHODS: A minimum sample size of 95 nursing mothers was estimated for this work. Socioeconomic, anthropometric, physical activity, obstetric and food consumption (food frequency questionnaire) data was collected from mothers and their newborns in immediate postpartum (n = 260) at the maternity hospital. Maternal pregestational weight and GWG were self-reported and the neonatal data was obtained from their records. The patterns were derived posteriori by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Multinomial Logistic Regression and Poisson Regression with Robust Variance were applied. FINDINGS: Four dietary patterns were derived: "pattern 1", characterized by the consumption of meat and eggs, processed meat, vegetables and olive oil; "pattern 2", consisting of sweets, snacks and cookies; "pattern 3", which includes cereals and breads, coffee and tea, and processed fats; and "pattern 4", characterized by soft drinks, tubers and instant noodles. Together, the dietary patterns account for 49.16% of the total variance for food intake. Higher adherence to "pattern 3" was associated with inadequate birth weight (low and excessive birth weight); while greater adherence to "pattern 2" was associated with lower chances of inadequate GWG. CONCLUSION: The dietary patterns presented mixed composition and predominance of ultra-processed foods. They were associated with the investigated outcomes, denoting the importance of strategies to promote healthy eating habits during pregnancy in order to avoid possible complications.

RESUMO

Acute lung injury is an inflammation that triggers acute respiratory distress syndrome with perialveolar neutrophil infiltration, alveolar-capillary barrier damage, and lung edema. Activation of the toll-like receptor 4 complex (TLR4/MD2) and its downstream signaling pathways are responsible for the cytokine storm and cause alveolar damage. Due to the complexity of this pulmonary inflammation, a defined pharmacotherapy has not been established. Thus, this study evaluated the anti-inflammatory potential of milonine, an alkaloid of Cissampelos sympodialis Eichl, in an experimental model of lung inflammation. BALB/c mice were lipopolysaccharide-challenged and treated with milonine at 2.0 mg/kg. Twenty-four hours later, the bronchoalveolar fluid, peripheral blood, and lungs were collected for cellular and molecular analysis. The milonine treatment decreased the cell migration (mainly neutrophils) to the alveoli, the pulmonary edema, and the cytokine levels (IL-1ß, IL-6, TNF-α). The systemic IL-6 level was also reduced. The milonine docking analysis demonstrated hydrophobic interaction at TLR4/MD2 groove with Ile124 and Phe126 amino acids. Indeed, the alkaloid downregulated the kinase-Akt and NF-κB through TLR4/MD2. Therefore, milonine is an effective inflammatory modulator being a potential molecule for the treatment of lung inflammation.

RESUMO

Rhipicephalus microplus, also known as the cattle tick, is the parasite with the greatest impact on cattle in Brazil. The most common method for controlling this tick is the application of synthetic chemical acaricides, especially ivermectin, which belongs to the group of macrocyclic lactones (MLs). However, because ivermectin is widely used, there is concern about the development of cross-resistance within this chemical class. Thus, engorged females were collected from farms with a history of resistance to ivermectin, which was the only one among the MLs that was used as an endectocide drug. Using larval immersion tests (LIT), bioassays were performed with ivermectin, moxidectin and eprinomectin on populations of R. microplus from the semiarid region of the states of Paraíba and Ceará, Brazil. Epidemiological questionnaires were applied to collect information about tick control management. All the evaluated populations showed cross-resistance between ivermectin and moxidectin, but only one population showed cross-resistance between ivermectin and eprinomectin. Weekly or monthly administration of injectable 1% ivermectin on farms was reported. It was concluded that the frequent use of ivermectin may lead to the development of cross-resistance to moxidectin. For eprinomectin, despite the structural similarity, cross-resistance was not observed in three tick populations.

RESUMO

Tenuisvalvae notata (Mulsant) (Coccinellidae) is a predatory ladybird beetle native to South America. It specializes in mealybugs prey (Pseudococcidae), but relatively little is known about its ecology. In contrast, the ladybird beetle Cryptolaemus montrouzieri Mulsant (Coccinellidae) is indigenous to Australia and has been introduced to many countries worldwide including Brazil for biological control of mealybugs. The potential impacts of these introductions to native coccinellids have rarely been considered. The software CLIMEX estimated the climate suitability for both species as reflected in the Ecoclimatic Index (EI). Much of South America, Africa, and Australia can be considered climatically suitable for both species, but in most cases, the climate is considerably more favorable for C. montrouzieri than T. notata, especially in South America. The CLIMEX model also suggests seasonal differences in growth conditions (e.g. rainfall and temperature) that could affect the phenology of both species. These models suggest that few locations in South America would be expected to provide T. notata climatic refugia from C. montrouzieri. Although other ecological factors will also be important, such as prey availability, this analysis suggests a strong potential for displacement of a native coccinellid throughout most of its range as a consequence of the invasion by an alien competitor.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Maternal food intake during pregnancy can substantially interfere in the baby's anthropometric measurements at birth. Our objective was to perform a systematic review that investigate the influence of nutrient intake via food during pregnancy on the baby's anthropometric measurements at birth. METHODS: A search was performed without time limits on CINAHL, Embase, PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases and manual on studies references. All nutrients and baby's anthropometric measurements at birth were included as descriptors. RESULTS: Thirty articles were included, the majority of prospective cohort studies, with 15.39 (2.36) quality points (maximum value: 22). Thirty-six results of associations were found, of which 17 studies had direct associations between nutrient intake and birth outcomes. Inverse associations were identified in 8 studies and 11 articles showed no significant associations in all analyses. Maternal food intake of vitamin C, calcium and magnesium during pregnancy seems to have a positive influence on the baby's birth weight, while carbohydrates intake have an inverse association with the same outcome. CONCLUSION: It is suggested that vitamin C, calcium, magnesium and carbohydrates influence on baby's birth weight. So, these specific nutrients need more attention to the consumption, in addition to carried out new studies, with robust methodologies for measuring maternal food consumption and considering the several factors that can interfere in this assessment. REGISTRATION: This review has been registered to the PROSPERO (International prospective register of systematic reviews) (ID: CRD42020167889).

RESUMO

Among the skin disorders of dogs, scabies is notable for its high occurrence rate and the need for veterinary interventions. There are two obstacles to making this diagnosis through direct investigation under a microscope (DIM): the continual need to make new slides when the results are negative and the long time needed for reading these slides. Thus, the objective of the present study was to compare efficacy between DIM and the technique of centrifugation-flotation in sucrose solution (CFSS) in samples from dogs in the semiarid region of the state of Paraíba, Brazil. Samples from 136 dogs were used, and three slides were made for each examination (DIM and CFSS). The readings were halted in cases of positivity. Positive samples were obtained from 56.6% of the dogs (77/136), of which 76.6% (59/77) were positive through both techniques, 13% (10/77) only through DIM and 10.4% (8/77) only through CFSS. The positivity rate did not differ statistically between the techniques. CFSS showed higher quality of readings, due to the considerably fewer artifacts on the slides, thereby optimizing the reading time. Sensitivity (85.6%), specificity (88.1%), accuracy (86.8%), positive predictive value (88.1%) and negative predictive value (85.1%) were obtained and the kappa coefficient (0.73) was considered substantial. It was concluded that CFSS showed high diagnostic capacity for scabies, similar to that of DIM, with optimized reading time, fewer artifacts and better display of mites.

RESUMO

The outreach of nanoparticle-based medical treatments has been severely hampered due to the imbalance between the efforts in designing extremely complex materials and the general lack of studies devoted to understanding their colloidal stability in biological environments. Over the years, the scientific community has neglected the relevance related to the nanoparticles' colloidal state, which consequently resulted in very poor bench-to-clinic translation. In this work, we show how mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs, one of the most promising and tested drug delivery platforms) can be efficiently synthesized and prepared, resulting in a colloidally stable system. We first compared three distinct methods of template removal of MSNs and evaluated their ultimate colloidal stability. Then, we also proposed a simple way to prevent aggregation during the drying step by adsorbing BSA onto MSNs. The surface modification resulted in colloidally stable particles that are successfully redispersed in biologically relevant medium while retaining high hemocompatibility and low cytotoxicity.

RESUMO

In northeastern Brazil, with has a predominantly dry climate, farmers seek alternative sources of income and livelihood by the rearing pigs. The gastrointestinal parasites that affect these animals represent an obstacle in the production and can cause significant economic loss. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and risk factors associated with gastrointestinal nematodes and Coccidia in swine herds in the Sousa microregion, Paraíba state, northeastern Brazil. This was a cross-sectional study, and the sampling was designed to determine the prevalence of endoparasite-positive farms and pigs. We randomly selected 51 farms and 187 pigs. Fecal samples were collected from each animal, and eggs per gram and oocysts per gram feces were recorded. The data collected in the epidemiological questionnaires were used to determine the possible risk factors associated with endoparasite-positive animal status. The prevalence of gastrointestinal nematodes and Coccidia in the pigs was 79.5% (149/187). Coccidia were the most prevalent parasite found, with 56.6% (106/187) of the pigs testing positive, followed by nematodes 22.9% (43/187). Strongylidae was the most common nematodes found (67.5%, 29/43), followed by Trichuris sp. (30.2%, 13/43) and Ascaris sp. (2.3%, 1/43). In 29 coprocultures, Strongylidae was identified: Oesophagostomum (82.2%, 25/29), Strongyloides (62.0%, 18/29), and Hyostrongylus (27.5%, 8/29). Mixed nematode and coccidial infection were observed in 72.4% (21/29) of the samples. Relevant risk factors were related to the type of management adopted by family farmers. Changes in management measures could improve the health profile of farms.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: This study investigated the mechanism of action of a synthetic tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloid, MHTP, in an experimental model of acute lung injury (ALI) in two distinct moments: 72 h and 10 days. METHODOLOGY: To realize this study, 2.5 mg/kg of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was intranasally administered in BALB/c mice, and nasal instillation of MHTP (1.25; 2.5; 5.0; 10 or 20 mg/kg) was administrated at 1, 24, and 48 h after LPS challenge. The data were statistically analyzed and p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: MHTP treatment (2.5, 5.0, 10 or 20 mg/kg) significantly decreased neutrophil migration into the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), tissue inflammatory cell infiltration, edema, and hemorrhage as well as collagen fiber deposition on the perialveolar regions at both moments. TNF-α and IL-6 levels were significantly diminished in the MHTP-treated animals at 72 h and maintained them, at a basal level, at 10-day observation. These effects of MHTP are due to downregulating p38MAPkinese/p65NFκB signaling pathway-TLR4 dependent. Also, the MHTP treatment promoted a survival rate at 100% and improved their body weights during the 10-day observation. Unlike, the LPS group (non-treated LPS challenged animals) presented less than 50% of surviving rate at 72 h and the animals that survived did not improve their physiological state at 10-day observation. CONCLUSIONS: These data showed for the first time the beneficial and effective activity of a nasal treatment with a synthetic tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloid on an experimental model of ALI and pointed out the molecular mechanism related to it.

RESUMO

A simple, stability-indicating, chromatographic method of quantifying spironolactone (SPI) and its metabolite, canrenone (CAN), in the presence of excipients typical in dermatological formulations and skin matrices in studies of passive and iontophoretic permeation was proposed and validated here. SPI and CAN were separated using a reversed-phase column with a mobile phase of methanol-water (60:40, v/v) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. Data were collected with a UV detector at 238 and 280 nm, with retention times of 6.2 and 7.9 min for SPI and CAN, respectively. The method was precise, accurate and linear (r2 > 0.99) in a concentration range of 1-30 µg/mL, and recovery rates of SPI and CAN from the different skin layers exceeded 85%. The method was not only sensitive (LOD of 0.05 and 0.375 µg/mL and LOQ of 0.157 and 1.139 µg/mL for SPI and CAN, respectively) but also selective against skin matrices and highly representative components of topical formulations. The method moreover demonstrated SPI's degradation in iontophoresis by applying Pt-AgCl electrodes and its continued drug stability using Ag-AgCl electrodes. Altogether, the method proved valuable for quantifying SPI and CAN and may be applied in developing and controlling the quality of dermatological products.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to conduct a systematic review to determine the prevalence of halitosis in adolescents and adults. METHODS: Electronic searches were performed using four different databases without restrictions: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and SciELO. Population-based observational studies that provided data about the prevalence of halitosis in adolescents and adults were included. Additionally, meta-analyses, meta-regression, and sensitivity analyses were conducted to synthesize the evidence. RESULTS: A total of 584 articles were initially found and considered for title and abstract evaluation. Thirteen articles met inclusion criteria. The combined prevalence of halitosis was found to be 31.8% (95% CI 24.6-39.0%). Methodological aspects such as the year of publication and the socioeconomic status of the country where the study was conducted seemed to influence the prevalence of halitosis. CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrated that the estimated prevalence of halitosis was 31.8%, with high heterogeneity between studies. The results suggest a worldwide trend towards a rise in halitosis prevalence. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Given the high prevalence of halitosis and its complex etiology, dental professionals should be aware of their roles in halitosis prevention and treatment.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Ouabain, an Na+/K+-ATPase inhibitor hormone, presents immunomodulatory actions, including anti-inflammatory effect on acute inflammation models. METHODS: In the present study, the effect of ouabain in a model of allergic airway inflammation induced by ovalbumin (OVA) was assessed. RESULTS: Initially, it was observed that ouabain treatment inhibited cellular migration induced by OVA on bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), mostly granulocytes, without modulating macrophage migration. In addition, it was observed, by flow cytometry, that ouabain reduces CD3high lymphocytes cells on BALF. Furthermore, treatment with ouabain decreased IL-4 and IL-13 levels on BALF. Ouabain also promoted pulmonary histological alterations, including decreased cell migration into peribronchiolar and perivascular areas, and reduced mucus production in bronchioles regions observed through hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and by periodic acid-Schiff stain, respectively. Allergic airway inflammation is characterized by high OVA-specific IgE serum titer. This parameter was also reduced by the treatment with ouabain. CONCLUSIONS: Therefore, our data demonstrate that ouabain negatively modulates allergic airway inflammation induced by OVA.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the overactive bladder (OAB) diagnosis using OAB-V8 and ICIQ-OAB questionnaires in women with different schooling and cultural levels. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Three hundred and eighty six healthy women answered a clinical questionnaire filling out information about schooling, demographic and gynecological data. The OAB-V8 and ICIQ-OAB questionnaires were used to evaluate OAB diagnosis and symptoms; and the QS-F questionnaire, to determine the sexual function. All questionnaires were validated in Portuguese. RESULTS: The mean age was 37.3 years-old. Regarding to schooling level, 23.1% had concluded primary education; 65.8%, secondary school; and 11.1% had higher education. Considering the OAB-V8 (score ≥8), 51.8% of evaluated women had OAB diagnosis. There was a positive linear correlation between the OAB-V8 and ICIQ-OAB questionnaires in its sections "a" (r=0.812, p<0.001) and "b" (r=759, p<0.001). There was a positive linear correlation between age and the amount of time used to answer the OAB-V8, ICIQ-OAB and QS-F questionnaires (p<0.001). The ICIQ-OAB was the hardest to answer for all schooling levels when compared to the other questionnaires. Women who had concluded primary and secondary education significantly demanded more help to answer all questionnaires than those with higher education (p<0.05). Furthermore, women with higher education took significantly less time answering all questionnaires when compared to their less educated counterparts (primary and secondary schooling), since they were quicker to answer each individual question. CONCLUSION: Educational level and ageing had an impact on women response using different questionnaires for OAB and sexual function evaluations.
