RESUMO

The combined impact of high-hydrostatic pressure (HHP) and ultrasound (US) on the cyanidin-3-O-rutinoside (C3R), quercetin-3-O-rutinoside (Q3R), and volatile compounds from fig (Ficus carica) paste was investigated. The HHP increased the content of C3R and Q3R, from 70 to 133 mg/kg fw and 31 to 44 mg/kg fw, respectively. The combination of HHP and US further enhanced the extraction of these bioactive compounds. Specifically, processing fig paste with US for 5 min at 40 °C yielded approximately 250 mg of C3R/kg fw and 45 mg of Q3R/kg fw, after 20 min. More than 25 volatile compounds were identified, with benzaldehyde being the predominant compound, accounting > 75%. Trace amounts of hydroxymethylfurfural (< 0.36 mg/100 g fw) were detected in HHP-processed fig paste. The application of HHP at mild temperatures and short time, combined with US, effectively promotes the content of bioactive compounds present in fig paste without adversely affecting the fruit's volatile compounds. RESUMO

At 07:39 on 11 March 2004 terrorist bomb explosions ocurred in 4 trains in Madrid killing 177 people instantly and 14 more later in the hospital. This report describes the organization, clinical management and patterns of injuries in casualties who were taken to our chil-patients were taken to the Gregorio Marañon hospital and 12 to the children's one. The mean age was 16 years (14-21), Two of them were critically ill and needed intensive care (ITP 5). Tympanic perforations occurred in 81% victims with moderate to severe trauma, shrapnel wounds in 36% and eye lesions in 27%. Among critically ill patients blast lung injury, cranial and abdominal trauma were the most important lesions. Training in AITP courses and hospital logistics were essential in clinical management of these casualties.

RESUMO

Six cases of biliary ascariasis were treated at Dr. Manuel Gea González General Hospital in the last sixteen years. The patient population consisted of five female and one male subjects. With a median age of 39 years. Main clinical manifestations were abdominal pain mimicking biliary colic, nausea, vomiting and jaundice. Diagnosis was established during surgery in four patients and by means of abdominal sonogram and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatogram in two cases. Cholecystitis diagnosis was considered preoperatively in three patients and cholangitis in another one. Five patients were operated on and in one case the worm was successfully removed with the endoscope. Only one patient was complicated with biliary peritonitis, hepatic abscess and reinfestation. No deaths occurred. Mexican literature published in the lasts 25 years is reviewed and the current state in diagnosis and treatment concerning this entity is discussed in this paper.

RESUMO

A case of hepatic rupture in 32 years old woman with severe preeclampsia is presented. She was definitively treated by right hepatic arterial occlusion and right porta branch occlusion. There were no postoperative complications, and the patient is still alive. This is the first case report of right hepatic arterial occlusion and right porta branch in severe preeclampsia.
