RESUMO

Defect and interface engineering are recognized as effective strategies to regulate electronic structure and improve activity of metal sulfide. However, the practical application of sulfide is restricted by their low conductivity and rapid decline in activity derived from large volume fluctuation during electrocatalysis process. More importantly, the determination of exact active site of sulfide is complicated due to the inevitable electrochemical reconstruction. Herein, ZnS nanoparticles with Zn defect are anchored onto the surface of NiCo2 S4 nanosheet to construct NiCo2 S4 /ZnS hybrids, which exhibit outstanding oxygen evolution performance with an ultralow overpotential of 140 mV. The anchoring of defective ZnS nanoparticles inhibit the volume expansion of NiCo2 S4 nanosheet during the cycling process. Density-functional theory reveals that the build-in interfacial potential and Zn defect can facilitate the thermodynamic formation of *O to *OOH, thus improve their intrinsic activity.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To characterise the clinical features and to discover predictive factors of adult males with nocturnal enuresis (NE). PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 43 eligible adult male patients (mean age was 57.8 years) were recruited prospectively over a 2-year period. After documentation of medical history, lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) were assessed using the International Consultation on Incontinence Modular Questionnaire-male LUTS (ICIQ-MLUTS), and a 3-day ICIQ-bladder diary (ICIQ-BD). Video-urodynamic studies (VUDS) were conducted conforming to the International Continence Society standards. Univariate and multivariate linear regressions were performed to determine potential predictive factors. RESULTS: Patients with NE had a variety of LUTS and had a high incidence of obesity and comorbidities. On the ICIQ-BD, NE was associated with nocturnal polyuria (NP), reduced nocturnal bladder capacity (NBC), or a combination of both. Subgroup analysis indicated that patients with more frequent NE had: higher body mass index (BMI); more comorbidities; reduced daytime urinary frequency and urgency quality of life (QoL) sub-scores; and increased stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and nocturnal bedwetting sub-scores. Patients with reduced NBC only, had fewer NE episodes, while patients with NP, or with both NP and reduced NBC were more likely have frequent NE. Multivariate analysis confirmed that: BMI; neurogenic causes; sub-scores of SUI QoL and bedwetting domain; the presence of reduced NBC, and both NP and reduced NBC; and bladder outlet obstruction, were all independent predictive factors for the severity of NE. CONCLUSIONS: NE n the adult male should be systemically assessed and treated, as obesity, neurogenic disorders, excessive urine production, bladder storage and emptying dysfunctions are risk factors. Bladder diaries and VUDS provide valuable information on potential pathophysiological causes, which could assist clinical evaluation and selection of focussed treatment.

RESUMO

Herein, a N-doped carbon-supported Co and NiFe LDH (Co-NC@NiFe LDH) array was developed, which demonstrated superior catalytic activities for both the OER and UOR in an alkaline medium. The intrinsic electron transfer is effectively regulated by the construction of a built-in electric field, which reduces the reaction energy barrier and consequently leads to a significant enhancement in electrocatalytic activity.

RESUMO

CoS2/CeO2, exhibiting the 3d-4f orbital coupling effect, is developed and shows exceptional OER activity, with an overpotential of 140 mV at 10 mA cm-2. DFT calculation and Raman spectra show the existence of a d-p-f electron transport ladder that can accelerate electron transfer through the Co-O(S)-Ce bond, optimize the adsorption free energy, and enhance the catalytic activity.

RESUMO

The slow kinetics of the bifunctional (OER/ORR) oxygen electrocatalyst is the bottleneck problem restricting the performance of zinc-air batteries (ZABs). The design and synthesis of an efficient and stable electrocatalyst at the air cathode to improve the performance of ZABs is of great significance for the development of sustainable energy conversion devices. Herein, we have developed a sulfur vacancy-rich Mott-Schottky catalyst (Co@Co9S8-NCNT), which shows superior ORR/OER bifunctional electrochemical activity and stability. Specifically, the OER overpotential is only 210 mV at 10 mA cm-2, and the half-wave potential (E1/2) of ORR is up to 0.88 V. Furthermore, a ZAB has been assembled using the Co@Co9S8-NCNT, which delivers a high power density (196.7 mW cm-2) and an open-circuit voltage (1.501 V), showing excellent battery performance. Density functional theory calculations demonstrate that the Co@Co9S8 Mott-Schottky heterojunction and S vacancy defects are beneficial to elevate the d-band central energy level to the Fermi level, significantly enhancing the adsorption/desorption capacity of oxygen-containing intermediates, thereby effectively improving the OER activity. Moreover, the N-doped carbon nanotubes can promote the continuous electron transfer between the metal and semiconductor interface. This work proposes a valid method for the construction and structural regulation of Mott-Schottky catalysts and offers new insights into the development of catalytic materials for energy conversion equipment.

RESUMO

A V-doped amorphous/crystalline heterostructure of NiFe (oxy)hydroxide with nanoflower morphology is developed, which exhibits excellent OER and UOR catalytic activities. V doping changes the local charge density, lowers the reaction barrier, and optimizes the electron arrangement of the NiFe LDH catalyst.

RESUMO

The non-local feature of topological states of matter is the key for the topological protection of quantum information and enables robust non-local manipulation in quantum information. Here we propose to manifest the non-local feature of a Majorana-hosted superconducting island by measuring the temperature dependence of Coulomb blockade peak conductance in different regimes. In the low-temperature regime, we discover a coherent double Majorana-assisted teleportation (MT) process, where any independent tunneling process always involves two coherent non-local MTs; and we also find an anomalous universal scaling behavior, i.e., a crossover from a [Formula: see text] power-law to a [Formula: see text] power-law conductance behavior when energy scale increases - in stark contrast to the usual exponential suppression due to certain local transport. In the high-temperature regime, the conductance is instead proportional to the temperature inverse, indicating a non-monotonic temperature-dependence of the conductance. Both the anomalous power law and non-monotonic temperature-dependence of the conductance can be distinguished from the conductance peak in the traditional Coulomb block, and therefore, together serve as a hallmark for the non-local feature in the Majorana-hosted superconducting island.

RESUMO

Fe, Mo-doped Ni3S2 nanosheets that are derived from NiFe-LDH by structural transformation have been successfully developed. The obtained Fe, Mo-Ni3S2 exhibits a low overpotential of 67 mV to enable a current density of 10 mA cm-2 for the HER and the overpotential for the OER is only 240 mV. Besides, the current density of 10 mA cm-2 can be achieved with a voltage of 1.53 V in a two-electrode hydrolysis device.

RESUMO

Designing and synthesizing stable electrocatalysts with outstanding performance for water splitting is an arduous and urgent task. Herein, Ru-anchored CoP embedded in N-doped porous carbon nanocubes (Ru-CoP/NCs) is successfully prepared. The Ru-CoP/NC reveals superior hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) properties and stability under alkaline conditions, and the corresponding overpotentials are 22 and 330 mV at 10 mA·cm-2, respectively. The unique N-doped porous carbon nanocube could boost the conductivity, and the electronic structure of CoP can be adjusted by the anchoring of Ru. Therefore, the strong interaction between Ru atoms and CoP improves the hydrogen adsorption on the catalyst, hence boosting the HER/OER performance of the Ru-CoP/NC catalyst. This work provides a facile method to exploit high-performance catalysts for water splitting.

RESUMO

Objective: To evaluate the learning curve in an untrained resident surgeon for the initial case series of tension-free vaginal tape-obturator (TVT-O) to treat stress urinary incontinence. Materials and Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted in Changhai Hospital, Shanghai, China, between March 2014 and June 2018. All consecutive women included were treated by the TVT-O procedure performed by one surgeon working under the supervision of an expert surgeon. Clinical features, estimated blood loss, operative time, postoperative hospital stay, total hospital stay, adverse events, and subjective and objective cure rates were recorded. Learning curve patterns were estimated to determine the number of cases to reach a plateau using the moving average method. Results: In total, 188 patients were included for analysis. Patients ranged from 39 to 91 years, with the average age of 57.5 ± 9.7 years. The mean operative time was 32.0 minutes (range 20-60). Operative time and blood loss decreased with increase in the level of expertise, whereas postoperative hospital stay and total hospital stay were not influenced by the number of procedures performed. The number of cases required to reach a plateau was ∼30. Objective cure rate and subjective cure rate were achieved in 88.7% and 88.2% at 12 months, respectively. Groin pain was the most common postoperation complication, which continued to be present in 11.7% patients at 12 months after surgery. Conclusions: The TVT-O procedure showed encouraging objective and subjective outcomes and low complication rates, even at the initial stage of the learning curve. Thirty cases were required for a naïve resident surgeon to learn TVT-O procedures. However, long-term outcome and complications caused by the synthetic sling still need further follow-up.
