RESUMO
Ectopic pancreas is a rare congenital anomaly. It is usually asymptomatic, or presents with non specific gastrointestinal symptoms. We describe here a case of ectopic pancreas in the gastric antrum, with pseudocyst and pseudoaneurysm formation. This entity has not been reported previously in the literature.

We present the results of continuous microelectrode recordings from individual pallidal neurons in patients with idiopathic torsion dystonia under different levels of propofol anesthesia. Neither the estimated plasma concentration of propofol nor the level of consciousness had a consistent effect on abnormally low neuronal firing rates. Our data support the pathophysiological model of a decreased basal ganglia output in dystonia and argue against a possible pharmacological artifact.

This retrospective study of 217 medical students (at one school over an eight-year period) who had sought psychiatric consultation and treatment was designed to verify earlier findings about medical students' psychiatric impairment and to investigate other, more recently highlighted issues. The authors hypothesized that (1) more of the women would be seen for psychiatric consultation; (2) overall, the problems and diagnoses of the students would differ according to gender and academic class; (3) the women would show more evidence of role strain; (4) the women would remain in treatment longer; and (5) for all students, the average length of treatment would be relatively brief. The results of this study indicate that more of the women requested psychiatric consultation; that differences along gender lines regarding chief complaints and psychiatric diagnoses were not significant; and that the women revealed more direct and subtle evidence of role strain but did not remain in treatment longer than the men. The date are discussed in terms of the development and implementation of educational programs that attempt to prevent some of the psychiatric impairments of physicians.

A 24-year-old female, diagnosed as bulimia nervosa with night bingeing and rumination, was treated by individual and group behavior therapy. A changing criterion design progressively adjusted the criterion for reinforcement as the treatment obtained diminution of night bingeing. Night bingeing was finally eliminated, without evidence of recurrence at 3 month and 2 year follow-ups. Rumination was regarded as a collateral behavior and diminished in tandem with reduction of night bingeing. Other improvements in bulimia nervosa were observed over the course of treatment.

This article reviews the literature dealing with problems brought by student-athletes to college counseling and mental health centers. Among the issues discussed are fear of success; identity conflict; social isolation; poor athletic performance; academic problems; and career or vocational concerns. In addition, the authors examine the paradox that although athletes experience as much or more psychological distress as nonathletes, research indicates that athletes use professional services less often than nonathletes. Finally, the authors review approaches to psychological intervention, including short-term psychotherapy, very brief interventions, cognitive behavioral therapy, and career/vocational counseling, and discuss special considerations for conducting therapy with athletes.

Results of the use of a special protocol for evaluation of patients requiring tubal ligation is presented after applied by a multidisciplinary group. The authors conclude that the use of defined parameters of age, parity, marital union duration, number of children alive and the presence of maternal clinical pathology are useful to identify patients with smaller chances of regret after surgery.
PIP: 27% of reproductive-age women in Brazil have chosen surgical sterilization as their contraceptive method. Most of these women who have undergone tubal sterilization opted for cesarean surgery. However, given the young ages of many of these women, many regret having been sterilized. This paper summarizes the experience of a multidisciplinary group in evaluating women who apply for surgical sterilization at the Department of Tocogynecology, Faculdade de Ciencas Medicas, Universidade Estadual de Campinas in Sao Paulo. Detailed descriptions are presented of the medical and social characteristics of cases seen between June 1988 and July 1989. The authors conclude that the use of the defined parameters of age, parity, marital union duration, number of living children, and the presence of maternal clinical pathology are useful in identifying the patients who are least likely to regret undergoing surgical sterilization.

BACKGROUND: Liver rupture is a rare complication in preterm infants and may be associated with birth trauma, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, laparotomy or coagulopathies. Only few patients are reported who have survived neonatal liver rupture. The aim of our study was to identify extremely preterm infants with liver rupture during a 6-year period. PATIENTS AND METHODS: All preterm infants < 28 weeks gestational age admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit between 2001 and 2006 were studied retrospectively by chart review and screening of electronic files. RESULTS: All 113 infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit during the study period were included. 4 infants with liver rupture were identified. In 3 cases the liver rupture was associated with cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Bleeding control was achieved only in 1 patient. All patients died, 3 because of haemorrhagic shock and 1 because of pneumopericardium. CONCLUSIONS: Liver rupture should considered in neonates with otherwise unexplained hypovolaemia or anaemia. Neonates with a history of cardiopulmonary resuscitation should be evaluated carefully for possible liver injuries.

We report the first observation of a charmoniumlike state recoiling from the J/psi in the inclusive process e+e- -->J/psi+anything at a mass of (3.943+/-0.006+/-0.006) GeV/c{2}. We also observe the decay of this state into D*D[over ] and determine its intrinsic width to be less than 52 MeV/c{2} at the 90% C.L. These results are obtained from a 357 fb{-1} data sample collected with the Belle detector near the Upsilon(4S) resonance, at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider.
RESUMO
We report on a search for new resonant states in the process gamma gamma --> DD. A candidate C-even charmonium state is observed in the vicinity of 3.93 GeV/c2. The production rate and the angular distribution in the gamma gamma center-of-mass frame suggest that this state is the previously unobserved chi(c2)', the 2(3)P2 charmonium state.
RESUMO
We report the first measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry and the ratios of Wilson coefficients and in A9/A7 and A10/A7 in B --> K*l+l-, where l represents an electron or a muon. We find evidence for the forward-backward asymmetry with a significance of 3.4sigma. The results are obtained from a data sample containing 386 x 10(6) BB pairs that were collected on the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider.
RESUMO
We present a measurement of the angle phi1 of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle using a time-dependent Dalitz analysis of D-->KS(0)pi + pi- decays produced in neutral B meson decay to a neutral D meson and a light meson (B0-->D*h0). The method allows a direct extraction of 2phi1 and, therefore, helps to resolve the ambiguity between 2phi1 and pi-2phi1 in the measurement of sin2phi1. We obtain sin2phi1= 0.78 +/- 0.44 +/- 0.22 and cos2varphi1 = 1.87(-0.53-0.32)(+0.40 + 0.22). The sign of cos2phi1 is determined to be positive at 98.3% C.L.
RESUMO
We report on the first observation of D0/1(2420)-->D0pi- pi+ and D+/1(2420-->D+ pi- pi+ decays (where the contribution from the dominant known D1-->D*pi decay mode is excluded) in the B- -->D0/1pi-) and (-)B0-->D+/1pi- decays, respectively. The observation is based on 15.2 x 10(7) B(-)B events collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider. We also set 90% confidence level upper limits for the branching fractions of the four following decays: B- -->D0/1pi-, D01-->D(*0)pi- pi+, (-)B0-->D+/1pi-, D+/1-->D(*+) pi- pi+, B- -->D(*0)2(2460)pi-, D(*0)2 -->D(*0) pi- pi+, (-)B0-->D(*+)2(2460)pi-, D(*+)2-->D(*+)pi- pi+.
RESUMO
The decays B0-->D+sJK- and B0-->D-sJpi+ are studied for the first time. A significant signal is observed in the B0-->D*sJ(2317)+K- decay channel with B(B0-->D*sJ(2317)+K-) x B(D*sJ(2317)+-->D+spi0)=(5.3(+1.5)(-1.3)+/-0.7+/-1.4) x 10(-5). No signals are observed in the B0-->D*sJ(2317)-pi+, B0-->DsJ(2460)+K-, and B 0-->DsJ(2460)-pi+ decay modes, and upper limits are obtained. The analysis is based on a data set of 140 fb(-1) collected by the Belle experiment at the asymmetric e+e- collider KEKB.
RESUMO
We report the observation of the radiative decay B+-->K1(1270)(+) gamma using a data sample of 140 fb(-1) taken at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. We find the branching fraction to be B(B+-->K1(1270)(+)gamma)=(4.3+/-0.9(stat.)+/-0.9(syst.))x10(-5) with a significance of 7.3sigma. We find no significant signal for B+-->K1(1400)(+)gamma and set an upper limit B(B+-->K1(1400)(+)gamma)<1.5 x 10(-5) at the 90% confidence level. We also measure inclusive branching fractions for B+-->K+pi+pi-gamma and B0-->K0pi+pi-gamma in the mass range 1 GeV/c(2)
RESUMO
We report the observation of a near-threshold enhancement in the omegaJ/psi invariant mass distribution for exclusive B-->KomegaJ/psi decays. The results are obtained from a 253 fb(-1) data sample that contains 275 x 10(6) BB pairs that were collected near the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e(+)e(-) collider. The statistical significance of the omegaJ/psi mass enhancement is estimated to be greater than 8sigma.
RESUMO
We report a measurement of the branching fraction for the decay B+ --> rho(+) pi(0) based on a 140 fb(-1) data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e(+)e(-) collider. We measure the branching fraction B(B(+) --> rho(+)pi(0)) = (13.2 +/- 2.3(stat)(+1.4)(-1.9)(syst)) x 10(-6), and the CP-violating asymmetry A(CP)(B-/+ -->rho(-/+)pi(0))=0.06 +/- 0.17(stat)(+0.04)(-0.05)(syst).
