RESUMO

Hereditary hearing loss has a genetic and phenotypic heterogeneity. However, it is still difficult to explain this heterogeneity perfectly with known deafness genes. Here, we report a novel causative gene EPHA10 as well as its non-coding variant in 5' untranslated region identified in a family with post-lingual autosomal dominant non-syndromic hearing loss from southern China. One affected member of this family had an ideal hearing restoration after cochlear implantation. We speculated that there were probable deafness-causing abnormalities in the cochlea according to clinical imaging and auditory evaluations. A heterozygous variant c.-81_-73delinsAGC was found co-segregating with hearing loss. Epha10 was expressed in mouse cochlea at both transcription and translation levels. The variant caused upregulation of EPHA10 which may result from promoter activity enhancement after sequence change. Overexpression of Eph (the homolog of human EPHA10) exerted effects on the structure and function of chordotonal organ in fly model. In summary, our study linked pseudo-kinase EPHA10 to hearing loss in humans for the first time.

HIV-1 infection remains a public health problem with no cure. Although antiretroviral therapy (ART) is effective for suppressing HIV-1 replication, it requires lifelong drug administration due to a stable reservoir of latent proviruses and may cause serious side effects and drive the emergence of drug-resistant HIV-1 variants. Gene therapy represents an alternative approach to overcome the limitations of conventional treatments against HIV-1 infection. In this study, we constructed and investigated the antiviral effects of an HIV-1 Tat-dependent conditionally replicating adenovirus, which selectively replicates and expresses the diphtheria toxin A chain (Tat-CRAds-DTA) in HIV-1-infected cells both in vitro and in vivo. We found that Tat-CRAds-DTA could specifically induce cell death and inhibit virus replication in HIV-1-infected cells mediated by adenovirus proliferation and DTA expression. A low titer of progeny Tat-CRAds-DTA was also detected in HIV-1-infected cells. In addition, Tat-CRAds-DTA showed no apparent cytotoxicity to HIV-1-negative cells and demonstrated significant therapeutic efficacy against HIV-1 infection in a humanized mouse model. The findings in this study highlight the potential of Tat-CRAds-DTA as a new gene therapy for the treatment of HIV-1 infection.

Passive delivery of antibodies to mucosal sites may be a valuable adjunct to COVID-19 vaccination to prevent infection, treat viral carriage, or block transmission. Neutralizing monoclonal IgG antibodies are already approved for systemic delivery, and several clinical trials have been reported for delivery to mucosal sites where SARS-CoV-2 resides and replicates in early infection. However, secretory IgA may be preferred because the polymeric complex is adapted for the harsh, unstable external mucosal environment. Here, we investigated the feasibility of producing neutralizing monoclonal IgA antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. We engineered two class-switched mAbs that express well as monomeric and secretory IgA (SIgA) variants with high antigen-binding affinities and increased stability in mucosal secretions compared to their IgG counterparts. SIgAs had stronger virus neutralization activities than IgG mAbs and were protective against SARS-CoV-2 infection in an in vivo murine model. Furthermore, SIgA1 can be aerosolized for topical delivery using a mesh nebulizer. Our findings provide a persuasive case for developing recombinant SIgAs for mucosal application as a new tool in the fight against COVID-19.

Accumulation of heavy metals in the body has been shown to affect the phenotypic age (PhenoAge). However, the combined and threshold effects of blood heavy metals on the risk of PhenoAge acceleration (PhenoAgeAccel) are not well understood. A cross-sectional study was conducted using blood heavy metal data (N = 7763, age ≥18 years) from the 2015-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. PhenoAgeAccel was calculated from actual age and nine biomarkers. Multiple regression equations were used to describe the relationship between heavy metals and PhenoAgeAccel. Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression modeling was used to explore the relationship between the combined effects of heavy metals and PhenoAgeAccel. Threshold effect and multiple regression analyses were performed to explore the linear and nonlinear relationships between heavy metals and PhenoAgeAccel. Threshold effect analysis showed that blood mercury (Hg) concentration was linearly associated with PhenoAgeAccel. In contrast, lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), manganese (Mn), and combined exposure were nonlinearly associated with PhenoAgeAccel. In addition, the combination of Pb, Cd, Hg, and Mn significantly affected PhenoAgeAccel. The risk of PhenoAgeAccel was increased by 207% (P < 0.0001). Meanwhile, a threshold relationship was found between blood Pb, Cd, Mn, and the occurrence of PhenoAgeAccel. Overall, our results indicate that combined exposure to heavy metals may increase the risk of PhenoAgeAccel. This study underscores the need to reduce heavy metal pollution in the environment and provides a reference threshold for future studies.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a life threatening disease in critically ill patients, and characterized by excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inflammatory factors levels in the lung. Multiple evidences suggest that nanozyme with diversified catalytic capabilities plays a vital role in this fatal lung injury. At present, we developed a novel class of polydopamine (PDA) coated cerium dioxide (CeO2) nanozyme (Ce@P) that acts as the potent ROS scavenger for scavenging intracellular ROS and suppressing inflammatory responses against ALI. Herein, we aimed to identify that Ce@P combining with NIR irradiation could further strengthen its ROS scavenging capacity. Specifically, NIR triggered Ce@P exhibited the most potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory behaviors in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced macrophages through decreasing the intracellular ROS levels, down-regulating the levels of TNF-α, IL-1ß and IL-6, up-regulating the level of antioxidant cytokine (SOD-2), inducing M2 directional polarization (CD206 up-regulation), and increasing the expression level of HSP70. Besides, we performed intravenous (IV) injection of Ce@P in LPS induced ALI rat model, and found that it significantly accumulated in the lung tissue for 6 h after injection. It was also observed that Ce@P + NIR presented the superior behaviors of decreasing lung inflammation, alleviating diffuse alveolar damage, as well as promoting lung tissue repair. All in all, it has developed the strategy of using Ce@P combining with NIR irradiation for the synergistic enhanced treatment of ALI, which can serve as a promising therapeutic strategy for the clinical treatment of ROS derived diseases as well.

NF-κB plays a crucial role in regulating cell proliferation, inflammation, apoptosis, and immune responses. HSV type 2 (HSV-2) is one of the most predominant sexually transmitted pathogens worldwide, and its infection increases the risk of HIV type 1 (HIV-1) acquisition and transmission. HSV-2 glycoprotein D (gD), highly homologous to HSV-1 gD, is essential for viral adhesion, fusion, entry, and spread. It is known that HSV-1 gD can bind herpesvirus entry mediator (HVEM) to trigger NF-κB activation and thereby facilitate viral replication at the early stage of infection. In this study, we found that purified HSV-2 gD triggered NF-κB activation at the early stage of infection, whereas ectopic expression of HSV-2 gD significantly downregulated TNF-α-induced NF-κB activity as well as TNF-α-induced IL-6 and IL-8 expression. Mechanistically, HSV-2 gD inhibited NF-κB, but not IFN-regulatory factor 3 (IRF3), activation and suppressed NF-κB activation mediated by overexpression of TNFR-associated factor 2 (TRAF2), IκB kinase α (IKKα), IKKß, or p65. Coimmunoprecipitation and binding kinetic analyses demonstrated that HSV-2 gD directly bound to the NF-κB subunit p65 and abolished the nuclear translocation of p65 upon TNF-α stimulation. Mutational analyses further revealed that HSV-2 gD interacted with the region spanning aa 19-187 of p65. Findings in this study together demonstrate that HSV-2 gD interacts with p65 to regulate p65 subcellular localization and thereby prevents NF-κB-dependent gene expression, which may contribute to HSV-2 immune evasion and pathogenesis.

OBJECTIVE: Preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) are at increased risk for dysfunctional immune responses in the postnatal period. This study aimed to verify the hypothesis that thymic function is altered in infants with BPD and changes in the expression of thymic function-related genes affect thymic development. STUDY DESIGN: Included in the study were infants who had a gestational age ≤32 weeks and survived to a postmenstrual age of ≥36 weeks. The clinical features and thymic size were comparatively studied between infants with and without BPD. Thymic function and the expression of thymic function-related genes were determined in BPD infants at birth, week 2, and 4 of life. The thymic size was ultrasonographically assessed in terms of the thymic index (TI) and thymic weight index (TWI). T-cell receptor excision circles (TRECs) and gene expression were quantitatively determined by real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: Compared to non-BPD infants, their BPD counterparts had a shorter GA, lower birth weight, lower Apgar scores at birth, and were more likely to be of the male gender. BPD infants had an elevated incidence of respiratory distress syndrome and sepsis. TI was 1.73 ± 0.68 versus 2.87 ± 0.70 cm3 and TWI was 1.38 ± 0.45 versus 1.72 ± 0.28 cm3/kg in the BPD group versus the non-BPD group (p < 0.05). In BPD infants, no significant changes were observed in thymic size, lymphocyte counts, and TREC copy numbers at the first 2 weeks (p > 0.05), but they all exhibited a significant increase at week 4 (p < 0.05). BPD infants presented a trend toward increased expression of transforming growth factor-ß1 and decreased expression of forkhead box protein 3 (Foxp3) from birth to week 4 (p < 0.05). Nonetheless, no significant difference was found in IL-2 or IL-7 expression at all time points (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: For preterm infants with BPD, reduced thymic size at birth might be associated with impaired thymic function. Thymic function was developmentally regulated in the BPD process. BACKGROUND: Metazoan guts are in permanent contact with microbial communities. However, the host mechanisms that have developed to manage the dynamic changes of these microorganisms and maintain homeostasis remain largely unknown. RESULTS: Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine [5-HT]) was found to modulate gut microbiome homeostasis via regulation of a dual oxidase (Duox) gene expression in both Bactrocera dorsalis and Aedes aegypti. The knockdown of the peripheral 5-HT biosynthetic gene phenylalanine hydroxylase (TPH) increased the expression of Duox and the activity of reactive oxygen species, leading to a decrease in the gut microbiome load. Moreover, the TPH knockdown reduced the relative abundance of the bacterial genera Serratia and Providencia, including the opportunistic pathogens, S. marcescens and P. alcalifaciens in B. dorsalis. Treatment with 5-hydroxytryptophan, a precursor of 5-HT synthesis, fully rescued the TPH knockdown-induced phenotype. CONCLUSIONS: The findings reveal the important contribution of 5-HT in regulating gut homeostasis, providing new insights into gut-microbe interactions in metazoans.

Metals play an important role in the development of diabetes mellitus (DM). The association of metals with diabetes among the Dong ethnicity in China remains poorly understood. The current study aimed to evaluate the association of single metal exposure and multi-metal co-exposure with DM risk. Urinary concentrations of arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, iron, lead, manganese, mercury, molybdenum, nickel, strontium, vanadium, and zinc were measured using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) among 4479 Dong ethnic participants aged 30-79 years from the China Multi-Ethnic Cohort (CMEC) study. Based on tertiles, the metal exposure can be divided into three groups: low, middle, and high exposure. Multivariate logistic regression models and principal component analysis were performed to determine exposure to single-metal and multi-metal co-exposure in relation to DM. A decrease in risk of DM was associated with iron (OR = 0.78, 95% CI: 0.61-1.00 and 0.68, 0.53-0.88 for the middle and high vs. low) and strontium (OR = 0.87, 95% CI: 0.69-1.12 and 0.67, 0.51-0.86 for the middle and high vs. low), respectively. A principal component 3 (PC3) characterized by iron and strontium showed an inverse association with DM. A principal component 4 (PC4) characterized by manganese and lead positively associated with DM. Exposure to high concentrations of urinary iron and strontium may reduce the risk of diabetes mellitus. This study revealed an increase in the risk of diabetes mellitus by co-exposure to high concentrations of urinary manganese and lead.

Exploration of advanced carbon anode material is the key to circumventing the sluggish kinetics and poor rate capability for potassium ion storage. Herein, a synergistic synthetic strategy of engineering both surface and structure is adopted to design N, S co-doped carbon nanotubes (NS-CNTs). The as-designed NS-CNTs exhibit unique features of defective carbon surface, hollow tubular channel, and enlarged interlayer space. These features significantly contribute to a large potassium storage capacity of 307 mA h g-1 at 1 A g-1 and a remarkable rate performance with a capacity of 151 mA h g-1 even at 5 A g-1 . Furthermore, an excellent cyclability with 98% capacity retention after 500 cycles at 2 A g-1 is also achieved. Systematic analysis by in situ Raman spectroscopy and ex situ TEM demonstrates the structural stability and reversibility in the charge-discharge process. Although the kinetics studies reveal the capacitive-dominated process for potassium storage, density functional theory calculations provide evidence that N, S co-doping contributes to expanding the interlayer space to promote the K-ion insertion, improving the electronic conductivity, and providing ample defective sites to favor the K-ion adsorption.

Sinonasal mucosal melanoma is a rare tumor arising within the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, or nasopharynx (sinonasal tract). This study evaluated 90 cases diagnosed in 29 males and 61 females with median age 68 years. Most tumors involved the nasal cavity and had an epithelioid morphology. Spectrum of research techniques used in this analysis includes targeted-DNA and -RNA next-generation sequencing, Sanger sequencing, fluorescence in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry. Sinonasal melanomas were commonly driven by RAS (38/90, 42%), especially NRAS (n = 36) mutations and rarely (4/90, 4%) displayed BRAF pathogenic variants. BRAF/RAS mutants were more frequent among paranasal sinuses (10/14, 71%) than nasal (26/64, 41%) tumors. BRAF/RAS-wild type tumors occasionally harbored alterations of the key components and regulators of Ras-MAPK signaling pathway: NF1 mutations (1/17, 6%) or NF1 locus deletions (1/25, 4%), SPRED1 (3/25, 12%), PIK3CA (3/50, 6%), PTEN (4/50, 8%) and mTOR (1/50, 2%) mutations. These mutations often occurred in a mutually exclusive manner. In several tumors some of which were NRAS mutants, TP53 was deleted (6/48, 13%) and/or mutated (5/90, 6%). Variable nuclear accumulation of TP53, mirrored by elevated nuclear MDM2 expression was seen in >50% of cases. Furthermore, sinonasal melanomas (n = 7) including RAS/BRAF-wild type tumors (n = 5) harbored alterations of the key components and regulators of canonical WNT-pathway: APC (4/90, 4%), CTNNB1 (3/90, 3%) and AMER1 (1/90, 1%). Both, TERT promoter mutations (5/53, 9%) and fusions (2/40, 5%) were identified. The latter occurred in BRAF/RAS-wild type tumors. No oncogenic fusion gene transcripts previously reported in cutaneous melanomas were detected. Eight tumors including 7 BRAF/RAS-wild type cases expressed ADCK4::NUMBL cis-fusion transcripts. In summary, this study documented mutational activation of NRAS and other key components and regulators of Ras-MAPK signaling pathway such as SPRED1 in a majority of sinonasal melanomas.

The coordination chemistry of f-block elements (lanthanide and actinide) in molten salts has become a resounding topic in view of its great importance to the research and development (R&D) of molten salt reactors and pyroprocessing. In this Review article, a general overview of the coordination chemistry of f-block elements in molten salts is provided including past achievements and recent advances. Particular emphases are placed on the oxidation state, speciation, and solution structure of f-block metal ions in molten salts, as well as their relationships with the salt composition. Furthermore, this review briefly discusses the spectroscopic and theoretical methods that complement each other in revealing the coordination properties.

AlCl3 -NaCl was utilized as an electrolyte in this work due to its low melting point and Lewis acidity, in which samarium exists in two oxidation states, Sm(III) and Sm(II), resulting in unique electrochemical behaviours. Sm metal dissolves in AlCl3 -NaCl melt to form SmCl2 , which is verified by electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques. As the Lewis acidity of the melt increases, the diffusion coefficient of Sm(II) gradually increases, and the activation energy of diffusion decreases. Moreover, an additional co-reduction peak of Sm3+ and AlCl4 - is observed to be more positive than that of Al(0)/Al(III) in Lewis basic melt, which may be tightly correlated with the variation of Sm(II) coordination in AlCl3 -NaCl melt and ligand variation from Cl- to AlCl4 - and Al2 Cl7 - as the Lewis acidity of the AlCl3 -NaCl melt increases, according to the in situ electronic absorption spectra of Sm in this melt.

In this work, we investigated the dissolution behavior of U3O8 and UO3 in the LiCl-KCl molten salt using 2.9 or 9.5 wt % AlCl3 as a chlorination agent under an argon atmosphere at 450 °C. Ultraviolet-visible/Ultraviolet-visible-near infrared absorption spectroscopy (UV-vis/UV-vis-NIR), fluorescence emission spectroscopy (FL), X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS), and electrochemical techniques were used to systematically study the chemical species and the transformation of the dissolved products of U3O8 and UO3. It was found that with the aid of AlCl3, the initial products of U3O8 and UO3 dissolution were different. The initial products of U3O8 were UO2Cl42- and UCl62-, while the initial product of UO3 dissolution was UO2Cl42-. Interestingly, regardless of U3O8 or UO3, with the increase of AlCl3 content, the UO2Cl42- in their dissolved products showed a tendency to transform into UCl62-. In addition, UCl4 was produced by mixing 0.05 g of U3O8/UO3 powders with 10 times the amount of AlCl3 and heating them at 300 °C for 2 h. This work focuses on the pyrochemical reprocessing of spent oxide fuels, deepening the understanding of the dissolution of uranium oxides in higher oxidation states, and enriching the knowledge of uranium in the transformation of chemical species in molten salts.

PURPOSE: Spiritual well-being had a protective effect on quality of life in cancer, due to the cultural, regional, and custom differences; it was rarely been discussed between cancer and chronic diseases in Chongqing, China. We aimed at comparing the level of spirituality in two groups and discussing its factors of subjects with cancer at county regions. METHODS: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was distributed to 630 inpatients who received treatment between January and December 2020 in Chongqing University Three Gorges Hospital. In addition to basic demographic data, spirituality was measured using the Chinese version of Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Spiritual Well-Being (FACIT-Sp-12). The mean, standard deviation, independent t-tests, ANOVA, and multiple regression were used for statistical description and analysis. RESULTS: Significant differences were found between cancer and chronic diseases in total scores of FACIT-Sp-12 and each domain (P < 0.05). The meaning, peace, faith, and total scores in cancer were 11.21 ± 3.38, 10.66 ± 4.46, 11.43 ± 3.54, and 33.3 ± 10.35, respectively, which were lower than chronic diseases (13.00 ± 3.21, 12.95 ± 4.76, 12.66 ± 3.64, 38.61 ± 10.88, respectively). The spiritual well-being had significant differences in gender, character, and emotional with spouse for cancer (P < 0.05). The male and extravert character were significantly associated with a greater spiritual well-being. CONCLUSION: The study shows a medium level of spiritual well-being in cancer, which stands the population with lower economic and education in county regions. It suggests that under the current nursing mode, we should provide specifically spiritual care to the female, introvert, and those with poor relationship with spouses and create a harmonious doctor-patient environment to improve the spiritual well-being.

BACKGROUND: To understand the trend of equalization in maternal services and to guide policy-makers regarding resource allocation and public health policy in China. METHODS: Twelve indicators, including maternal services needs, utilization, and resource allocation, were collected from China Health Statistical Year Book 2010 and 2020. WHO's comprehensive evaluation model and the non-integral Rank Sum Ratio (RSR) method were used to analyze, rank, and categorize maternal services of 31 provinces (cities, autonomous regions) in China. RESULTS: All provinces (cities, autonomous regions) are grouped into relative balance areas, low input areas, resource shortage areas, overutilization areas, and resource waste areas. In 2019, there were 18 provinces (cities, autonomous regions) in the relative balanced area, and more than one-half had achieved equal development. Compared to 2009, the resource shortage area decreased from three to zero, and the resource waste area increased from four to six. Among the provinces (cities, autonomous regions) with a type change compared with 2009, eight changed to a relative balance areas, and four showed an improvement. CONCLUSION: Under the policy guidance of promoting the equalization of public health services, maternal services are gradually realized. However, several provinces (cities, autonomous regions) still have problems such as the mismatch between resource input and health needs, resource waste, over-utilization, etc. Therefore, specific policies should be formulated according to the actual types to promote the transformation into equalization regions.

BACKGROUND: Gastric neoplasms with fundic gland differentiation include oxyntic gland adenomas (OGAs) and gastric adenocarcinomas of fundic gland type (GA-FGs). Due to their well-differentiated and similar morphology with normal fundic glands, it is usually challenging to identify these lesions in pathological diagnosis, especially in biopsy specimens. This study aims to explore and verify the potential role of a newly developed monoclonal antibody (McAb) NJ001 (SP70) in differentiating fundic neoplasms from non-neoplastic fundic gland lesions. METHODS: Twenty-three cases of histological confirmed gastric fundic gland neoplasms were obtained, including 12 cases of OGAs and 11 of GA-FGs. Fifty cases of fundic gland polyps (FGPs) were taken as the control group. Six cases of well-differentiated gastric neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) (easily misdiagnosed) were also obtained. Key clinicopathological information was collected. SP70 immunostaining was performed (with para-tumor normal fundic glands as internal control). The positive intensity and staining pattern of SP70 were analyzed and compared. RESULTS: In normal gastric mucosa, SP70 was strongly and diffusely stained on the cytoplasm in fundic glands, but not in the foveolar epithelium. Therefore, a zonal distribution of SP70 was observed in normal mucosa. FGPs (50/50, 100%) shared a similar expression pattern with normal fundic glands. In fundic gland neoplasms, a significant down-expression of SP70 was observed in both OGAs and GA-FGs. The positive rate of SP70 in fundic gland neoplasms (6/23, 26.1%) was significantly lower than that in FGPs (100%) (P<0.0001). There was no difference in SP70 expression between OGAs (3/12, 25.0%) and GA-FGs (3/11, 27.2%) group (P>0.05). In these 6 NET cases, SP70 was weak to moderate intensity in the majority of tumor cells (with a different expression pattern). CONCLUSION: Down-expression of SP70 is a specific feature to fundic gland neoplasms including OGAs and GA-FGs. Therefore, SP70 can serve as a potential biomarker in the identification and differential diagnosis of fundic gland neoplasms.

OBJECTIVE: Cystatin C (CysC) references are useful for the monitoring of renal function in neonates. However, the standard CysC references in newborn infants have not been determined. The aim of this study was to establish a useful reference range for CysC in newborns. STUDY DESIGN: Serum CysC levels were measured in 1,919 blood samples from 1,044 newborns during their first 28 days of life. CysC levels were analyzed for associations between subgroups dichotomized by postnatal age (PA) and gestational age (GA). The serum CysC reference intervals were determined according to the PA and GA. The associations between the serum CysC level and other biochemical parameters as well as perinatal factors were also analyzed. RESULTS: In this study, the mean GA was 35.8 ± 2.9 weeks and the birth weight (BW) was 2,614 ± 697 g. Reference ranges of serum CysC were determined, and a general decreasing trend of CysC levels was observed as the GA increased. CysC levels differed significantly among the PA and GA categories (p < 0.001). Serum CysC levels were relatively stable throughout the GA range but were impacted by the white blood cell count within the first postnatal 24 hours. Moreover, CysC levels always correlated positively with serum creatinine concentrations (p < 0.001). Serum Cr levels were influenced by multiple factors, including BW, GA, total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, white blood cell count, C-reactive protein, and blood urea nitrogen. CONCLUSION: Reference levels of serum CysC should be determined according to the PA and GA. In contrast to Cr, serum CysC is a reliable index for assessing renal function in neonates as it is influenced by very few factors. The CysC reference levels will allow neonatologists to accurately evaluate renal function in the neonatal population. To address the problem that duck egg mortality is not easily detected at mid-incubation, this paper explored a method to detect mid-incubation egg activity information based on temperature drop curve (TDC) features. In this paper, we used a thermal infrared camera to obtain continuous thermal images of death fertilized duck eggs (DFDE) on the 16th day of incubation and alive fertilized duck eggs (AFDE) hatched for 16-19 days in a 20 °C environment. By observing the temperature drop curve of egg surface, we extracted and visualized five features that could reflect the activity information of duck eggs. And we used K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Naive Bayesian (NB) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) to establish the activity information detection models for different incubation days. The results showed that KNN could better distinguish the activity of eggs at the 16th and the 17th day of incubation, with F1-score of 85.43% and 85.98%, respectively. The SVM showed better results at the 18th and the 19th day of incubation, with F1-score of 90.57% and 96.3%, respectively. The experimental results demonstrated that the activity detection method based on the temperature drop curve features in this paper could efficiently and nondestructively detect the activity information of mid-incubation duck eggs, which provided a technical foundation for detecting the activity information of duck eggs at mid-incubation.

Population growth and industrial development have exacerbated environmental pollution of both land and aquatic environments with toxic and harmful materials. Luminescence-based chemical sensors crafted for specific hazardous substances operate on host-guest interactions, leading to the detection of target molecules down to the nanomolar range. Particularly, the luminescence-based sensors constructed on the basis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are of increasing interest, as they can not only compensate for the shortcomings of traditional detection techniques, but also can provide more sensitive detection for analytes. Recent years have seen MOFs-based fluorescent sensors show outstanding advantages in the field of hazardous substance identification and detection. Here, we critically discuss the application of MOFs for the detection of a broad scope of hazardous substances, including hazardous gases, heavy metal ions, radioactive ions, antibiotics, pesticides, nitro-explosives, and some harmful solvents as well as luminous and sensing mechanisms of MOF-based fluorescent sensors. The outlook and several crucial issues of this area are also discussed, with the expectation that it may help arouse widespread attention on exploring fluorescent MOFs (LMOFs) in potential sensing applications.
