RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: This study explored the association between psoriasis and the weight-adjusted waist index (WWI), a newly developed measure of adiposity. The research was conducted among adults in the United States. METHODS: Utilizing survey data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning the years 2009 to 2014, the present study aimed to investigate the potential correlation between psoriasis and WWI within a sample of 15,920 adult participants. Employing multivariable logistic regression and nonlinear curve fitting techniques, we analyzed this plausible association. Additionally, a subgroup analysis was conducted to ascertain the consistency across diverse populations. RESULTS: A significant positive association was discovered between psoriasis and WWI in the investigated sample of 15,920 adults. After conducting a comprehensive adjustment of the model, it was observed that each incremental unit of WWI was significantly associated with an 14% elevated likelihood of developing psoriasis (OR = 1.16, 95% CI 1.01-1.36). Moreover, individuals belonging to the highest quartile of WWI exhibited a 47% higher risk of psoriasis compared to those in the lowest quartile (OR = 1.44, 95% CI 1.01-2.06). This positive correlation remained consistent across various subgroups. The study also compared WWI with BMI and waist circumference, finding that WWI is a more stable metric of obesity. CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggested that in US adults, there is a positive association between WWI and psoriasis. It also indicated that WWI showed potential as a valuable index of psoriasis among the general population.

RESUMO

Tolyporphin A is an unusual tetrapyrrole secondary metabolite containing pendant deoxysugars and unsubstituted pyrrole ß sites. Herein, we describe the biosynthesis of the tolyporphin aglycon core. HemF1 catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of two propionate side chains of coproporphyrinogen III, an intermediate in heme biosynthesis. HemF2 then processes the two remaining propionate groups to generate a tetravinyl intermediate. All four vinyl groups from the macrocycle are truncated by TolI via repeated C-C bond cleavages to generate the unsubstituted pyrrole ß sites of tolyporphins. This study illustrates how the unprecedented C-C bond cleavage reactions branch from canonical heme biosynthesis to produce tolyporphins.

RESUMO

Tetrapyrroles represent a unique class of natural products that possess diverse chemical architectures and exhibit a broad range of biological functions. Accordingly, they attract keen attention from the natural product community. Many metal-chelating tetrapyrroles serve as enzyme cofactors essential for life, while certain organisms produce metal-free porphyrin metabolites with biological activities potentially beneficial for the producing organisms and for human use. The unique properties of tetrapyrrole natural products derive from their extensively modified and highly conjugated macrocyclic core structures. Most of these various tetrapyrrole natural products biosynthetically originate from a branching point precursor, uroporphyrinogen III, which contains propionate and acetate side chains on its macrocycle. Over the past few decades, many modification enzymes with unique catalytic activities, and the diverse enzymatic chemistries employed to cleave the propionate side chains from the macrocycles, have been identified. In this review, we highlight the tetrapyrrole biosynthetic enzymes required for the propionate side chain removal processes and discuss their various chemical mechanisms. ONE-SENTENCE SUMMARY: This mini-review describes various enzymes involved in the propionate side chain cleavages during the biosynthesis of tetrapyrrole cofactors and secondary metabolites.

RESUMO

Coaxial monitoring of the Direct Energy Deposition (DED) machines enables a real-time material deposition study. Coaxial-images contain substantial melt-pool information and incorporate situational information including the sparks' intensity, numbers, etc. Recent studies have shown that melt-pool observations correlate directly with machine parameters and artifact properties. Therefore, the melt-pool information not only can assist in measuring the machine's working condition and determining machine operation parameters' reliability but also facilitates the deposition characteristics studies like print's regime and dimensions. This information is gathered during the fabrication and can be expanded to perform various process studies and fault registration. This paper utilizes the Optomec DED machine to fabricate single-track prints with multiple process parameters, while a coaxial camera records the deposition. Each deposited track is then cut perpendicular to the print's direction to facilitate process parameters correlation study with actual geometrical deposition measured using a microscope. The coaxial images taken during fabrication, along with their process parameters, cross-cut measurements, and a developed image-processing toolbox, are presented alongside this paper to empower future research directions.

RESUMO

Tabtoxin is a ß-lactam ring-containing phytotoxin produced by a plant pathogenic Pseudomonas species. Here, we describe the early stages of tabtoxin biosynthesis, involving a C-methylation reaction catalyzed by the S-adenosyl-l-methionine-dependent methyltransferase TblA as the initial step for the ß-lactam construction. Gene deletion and in vitro biochemical assays demonstrated that the Gcn5-related N-acetyltransferase domain of TblD catalyzes the acetylation of the α-amino group of 5-methyl-l-lysine. This establishment of the early reaction steps lays the foundation for characterizing unique ß-lactam biosynthesis.

RESUMO

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), also known as Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF), is the most widely used type of Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology at the consumer level. This technology severely suffers from a lack of online quality assessment and process adjustment. To fill up this gap, a high-speed 2D Laser Profiler KEYENCE LJ-V7000 series is equipped above an FDM machine and performs a scan after each print layer. The point cloud of the upper surface will be processed and transformed into a 2D depth map to analyze the in-plane anomalies during the FDM fabrication process. The author used the above data to categorize the surface quality into four categories: under printing, over printing, normal, and empty regions. The author showed the effectiveness of data in detecting print anomalies, and further work can be done to show the application of more advanced algorithms towards a better detection accuracy or to present a novel way to approach the data and detect a broader range of anomalies.

RESUMO

Fish and fishery products are among the most important sources of nutritional components for human health, including high-quality proteins, essential vitamins, minerals, and healthy polyunsaturated fatty acids. Fish farming and processing technologies are continuously evolving to improve and enhance the appearance, yield, and quality of fish and fish products from farm to fork throughout the fish supply chain, including growth, postharvest, treatment, storage, transportation, and distribution. Processing of fish involves a period of food withdrawal, collection and transportation, the process of stunning, bleeding, chilling, cutting, packaging, and byproduct recycling. Cutting is a set of crucial operations in fish processing to divide the whole fish into smaller pieces for producing fish products (e.g., fish fillets, steaks, etc.). Various techniques and machinery have been introduced in the field to advance and automate cutting operations. This review aims to provide a comprehensive review of fish cutting techniques, machine vision and artificial intelligence applications, and future directions in fish industries. This paper is expected to stimulate research on enhancing fish cutting yield, product diversity, safety and quality, as well as providing advanced solutions for engineering problems encountered in the fish industry.

RESUMO

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder. Rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is one of the prodromal symptoms of PD. Studies have shown that brain information transmission is affected in PD patients. Consequently, we hypothesized that brain information transmission is impaired in RBD and PD. To prove our hypothesis, we performed functional connectivity (FC) and functional dynamics analysis of three aspects-based on the whole brain, within the resting-state network (RSN), and the interaction between RSNs-using normal control (NC) (n = 21), RBD (n = 24), and PD (n = 45) resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data sets. Furthermore, we tested the explanatory power of FC and functional dynamics for the clinical features. Our results found that the global functional dynamics and FC of RBD and PD were impaired. Within RSN, the impairment concentrated in the visual network (VIS) and sensorimotor network (SMN), and the impaired degree of SMN in RBD was higher than that in PD. On the interaction between RSNs, RBD showed a widespread decrease, and PD showed a focal decrease which concentrated in SMN and VIS. Finally, we proved FC and functional dynamics were related to clinical features. These differences confirmed that brain information transmission efficiency and flexibility are impaired in RBD and PD, and these impairments are associated with the clinical features of patients.
