Maternal trauma has intergenerational implications, including worse birth outcomes, altered brain morphology, and poorer mental health. Research investigating intergenerational effects of maternal trauma on infant stress reactivity and regulation is limited. Maternal mental health during pregnancy may be a contributor: psychopathology is a sequela of trauma exposure and predictor of altered self-regulatory capacity in offspring of affected mothers. We assessed associations among maternal lifetime trauma and infant stress responsivity, mediated by psychological symptoms in pregnancy. Mothers reported lifetime trauma history and anxiety, depressive, and posttraumatic stress symptoms during pregnancy. At infant age 6 months, stress reactivity and regulation were assessed via maternal behavior ratings (Infant Behavior Questionnaire-Revised, IBQ-R) and behavioral (negative mood) and physiological (respiratory sinus arrhythmia, RSA) markers during a laboratory stressor (Still-Face Paradigm). Maternal trauma was directly associated with lower infant physiological regulation and indirectly associated with lower levels of both infant behavioral and physiological regulation via higher maternal anxiety during pregnancy. Maternal trauma was also indirectly associated with higher infant reactivity via higher maternal anxiety during pregnancy. Post hoc analyses indicated differential contributions of maternal prenatal versus postnatal anxiety to infant outcomes. Findings highlight potential contributory mechanisms toward maladaptive child stress response, which has been associated with poor behavioral, cognitive, and academic outcomes.

Cinnamaldehyde (CNM) is an essential-oil component with reported anti-infective, anti-inflammatory, and healing effects, making it an interesting compound for the treatment of wound infection. Herein, we evaluated the effects of topical administration of CNM in experimental wounds infected by Staphylococcus aureus. Swiss mice (n = 12/group) were randomly allocated into three groups (CON: animals with uninfected lesions; Sa: animals with untreated infected lesions; Sa + CNM: animals with infected wounds and treated with CNM). Excisional lesions (64 mm2) were induced at the dorsal area followed by the addition of S. aureus (80 µL of a 1.5 × 108 CFU/mL bacterial suspension). The wounds were treated with CNM (200 µg/wound/day) or vehicle (2% DMSO) for 10 days. Skin samples were taken on the 3rd or 10th treatment day for quantification of inflammatory mediators, bacterial load, immunophenotyping, and histological analysis. The treatment with CNM improved the healing process and attenuated the severity of skin lesions infected by S. aureus. These effects were associated with significant decreases in bacterial loads in CNM-treated wounds. The levels of neutrophils, TNF-α, IL-6, NO, and VEGF were decreased in the lesions treated with CNM. Taken together, these data provide further evidence of the effectiveness of CNM for the treatment of skin infections.

Aureocin A53 is an N-formylated antimicrobial peptide (AMP) produced by Staphylococcus aureus. Aureocin A53 has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity against human and animal pathogens. In the present study, its antagonistic activity was investigated towards 30 strains of S. aureus and 30 strains of Streptococcus spp. isolated from bovine mastitis cases in Brazil. Bovine mastitis is a disease that causes a major economic impact worldwide. Aureocin A53 inhibited the growth of all 60 strains tested, including multidrug-resistant streptococcal isolates and strains of S. aureus belonging to different pulsotypes. This AMP proved to be bactericidal against the six target strains randomly selected among staphylococci and streptococci, also exhibiting a lytic mode of action against the staphylococcal cells. Furthermore, it was determined that 2,048 AU/mL of the AMP were required to inhibit 99.99% of the cell growth of the strain less sensitive to aureocin A53. Aureocin A53 was not toxic to bovine mammary gland epithelial cells after a 24-h exposure and maintained its antimicrobial activity when tested in the excised-teat model against strains of S. aureus and Streptococcus agalactiae, the species responsible for most intramammary infections, not only in Brazil but in other countries as well. Therefore, the use of aureocin A53 in the development of new pharmacological products for the prophylaxis and/or treatment of bovine mastitis was considered promising.

The emergence of a new human coronavirus severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has imposed great pressure on the health system worldwide. The presence of glycoproteins on the viral envelope opens a wide range of possibilities for the application of lectins to address some urgent problems involved in this pandemic. In this work, we discuss the potential contributions of lectins from nonmammalian sources in the development of several fields associated with viral infections, most notably COVID-19. We review the literature on the use of nonmammalian lectins as a therapeutic approach against members of the Coronaviridae family, including recent advances in strategies of protein engineering to improve their efficacy. The applications of lectins as adjuvants for antiviral vaccines are also discussed. Finally, we present some emerging strategies employing lectins for the development of biosensors, microarrays, immunoassays and tools for purification of viruses from whole blood. Altogether, the data compiled in this review highlight the importance of structural studies aiming to improve our knowledge about the basis of glycan recognition by lectins and its repercussions in several fields, providing potential solutions for complex aspects that are emerging from different health challenges.

Understanding the effects of atrazine exposure on embryo development in oviparous animals may provide important data regarding the impacts of agrochemical use on wildlife and the ecosystem. This study set out to determine the effects of embryonic atrazine exposure on the development of osseous and cartilaginous components of scleral ossicles in Podocnemis expansa. Eggs were collected at the Environmental Protection Area Meandros do Rio Araguaia, Brazil, and artificially incubated in sand treated with solutions containing 2, 20 or 200 µg/L of atrazine. Sixty embryos were collected per treatment throughout the incubation period. Embryos were diaphanized with potassium hydroxide (KOH) and stained with Alizarin Red S and Alcian blue (bone and cartilage tissue respectively). Scleral ossicles were then counted and examined for skeletal abnormalities at different stages of embryonic development. Scleral ossicle counts were significantly reduced in P. expansa embryos treated with 200 µg/L atrazine solution. Rudimentary ossicles and gaps were also noted in embryos exposed to atrazine concentrations of 2 µg/L or 200 µg/L. Findings of this study emphasize the relevance of ecotoxicological investigations in determining the impacts of agrochemicals on native fauna.

This study was designed to investigate skeletal changes in Podocnemis unifilis embryos derived from artificially incubated eggs exposed to different concentrations of atrazine, glyphosate or atrazine and glyphosate mixture. Forty-two eggs were randomly allocated to one of seven trays containing vermiculite treated distilled water (control group) or the following solutions: 2 or 200 µg L-1 of atrazine (groups A1 and A2 respectively); 65 or 6500 µg L-1 of glyphosate (groups G1 and G2 respectively); 2 µg L-1 and 65 µg L-1 or 200 µg L-1 and 6500 µg L-1 of atrazine and glyphosate mixture (groups AG1 and AG2 respectively). Three eggs per tray were randomly collected on days 30 and 50 of the incubation period. Embryos were submitted to soft tissue diaphanization and stained with Alizarin red S or Alcian blue for morphological analysis of bone and cartilage tissues; histological analysis was performed to confirm ossification changes. Findings were compared between groups. Morphological changes were limited to sclerotic ring features and number of ribs. Malformations rates differed significantly (p < 0.05) between embryos in the control and treated groups A2, AG1 and AG2. Concurrent exposure to atrazine and glyphosate did not affect the presence or severity of embryonic malformations and was not associated with appendicular skeleton changes in P. unifilis embryos. However, further studies focusing on the axial skeleton with particular emphasis on rib abnormalities are warranted.

The use of pesticides is a widely spread practice in Brazilian agriculture, and dispersion of these substances is an important factor for the fauna and flora. Atrazine is an endocrine disruptor in the xenoestrogen class that is used worldwide in agricultural practices. In Brazil, its use is permitted in several crops. Podocnemis expansa is a representative of the Testudines order that is the largest freshwater reptile of South America. Its distribution enables it to get in contact with molecules that are commonly used as pesticides, which may cause deleterious effects in target populations. In order to evaluate the possible effects of the exposure to atrazine on bone ontogeny of this species, eggs were artificially incubated in sand moistened with water contaminated with atrazine at concentrations equal to 0, 2, 20 or 200 µg/L. Embryos were collected throughout incubation and submitted to diaphanization of soft tissues with potassium hydroxide (KOH); bones were stained with Alizarin red S and cartilages by Alcian blue. Embryos were evaluated for the presence of abnormalities during the different stages of pre-natal development of skeletal elements. No effect of atrazine was observed on bone development during the embryonic phase in P. expansa individuals, in the conditions of this study.

Eggshell evaluation may serve as an indicator of the effect of substances released in the environment, which may change eggshell shape, size, structure, and/or chemical composition. Additionally, exposure may interfere with hatching rates in contaminated eggs. The objective of this study was to better understand how exposure to the insecticide methyl parathion interferes with chemical changes in eggshells of Podocnemis expansa throughout their artificial incubation, as well as with egg hatchability. A total of 343 P. expansa eggs were collected in a natural reproduction area for the species. These eggs were transferred to and artificially incubated in the Wild Animal Teaching and Research Laboratory at Universidade Federal de Uberlândia. On the first day of artificial incubation, 0, 35, 350, and 3500 ppb of methyl parathion were incorporated to the substrate. Eggs were collected every three days for chemical analysis of eggshells. Hatchability was evaluated as the number of hatchlings in each treatment, for the eggs that were not used in the chemical analysis. Student's T-test was used for data on eggshell chemical composition, and the Binomial Test for Two Proportions was used in the hatchability analysis, at a 5% significance level. It was observed that the incorporation of methyl parathion to the substrate on the first day of artificial incubation of P. expansa eggs reduced the levels of total fat in the shells throughout their incubation, besides reducing egg hatchability.

We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the comparative effectiveness of ketamine versus electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for the treatment of major depressive episodes (MDEs). PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library databases were systematically searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing ketamine and ECT for MDE. The primary outcome was response rate, for which we prespecified a non-inferiority margin of -0.1, based on the largest and most recent RCT. Response was defined as a reduction of at least 50 % in the depression scale score. Six RCTs met the inclusion criteria, comprising 655 patients. In the overall population, ketamine was not non-inferior to ECT in response rate (RD -0.10; 95 % CI -0.26 to 0.05; p = 0.198; I2 = 72 %). The ECT group had a higher reduction in depression scores, but without difference in remission and relapse rates. Regarding safety outcomes, ketamine had better posttreatment cognition scores and reduced muscle pain rate compared with ECT, albeit with an increased rate of dissociative symptoms. In a subanalysis with only inpatients, ketamine was inferior to ECT in response rate (RD -0.15; 95 % CI -0.27 to -0.03; p = 0.014; I2 = 25 %), remission, and change in depression scores. These findings support the use of ECT over ketamine for inpatients. Further RCTs are warranted to clarify the comparative effect of these treatments for outpatients.

The increasing use of cellulose-based materials (CBMs) has provided beneficial applications in different sectors. However, its release into environments may represent an ecological risk, therefore demanding that ecotoxicological studies be conducted to understand the risks (current and future) of CBM pollution. Thus, we evaluated the possible effects of microcrystalline cellulose (CMs) in Physalaemus cuvieri tadpoles. After seven days of exposure to CMs (at 58.29 and 100 mg/L), the animals were subjected to behavioral evaluation, and different biomarkers (biometric and biochemical) were evaluated. Although our data do not point to a neurotoxic effect of CMs (inferred by the absence of behavioral changes and changes in AChE and BChE activity), animals exposed to CMs showed differences in body condition. Furthermore, we noticed an increase in the frequency of erythrocyte nuclear abnormalities and DNA damage, which were correlated with the ingestion of CMs. We noticed that the antioxidant activity of tadpoles exposed to CMs (inferred by SOD, CAT, and DPPH radical scavenging activity) was insufficient to control the increase in ROS and MDA production. Furthermore, exposure to CMs induced a predominant Th2-specific immune response, marked by suppressed IFN-γ and increased IL-10 levels, with a consequent reduction in NO levels. Principal component analysis and IBRv-2 indicate, in general, a primarily more toxic response to animals exposed to the highest CM concentration. Therefore, our study evidence that CMs affect the health of P. cuvieri tadpoles and sheds light on the threat these materials pose to amphibians.

BACKGROUND Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a rare autoimmune disease that can affect multiple organs and manifest itself as a mass at any region of the body. Due to its several differential diagnoses, investigation and treatment are still challenging. Therefore, imaging, serology, and histopathology are required to confirm the diagnosis. The involvement of the temporal bone is an uncommon presentation, often mistaken for malignancy, with vague symptoms. Therefore, we present a 22-year-old Brazilian man, diagnosed with IgG4-related disease, manifesting with unilateral mastoiditis, sensorineural hearing loss, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, and a mass in the left temporal bone. CASE REPORT A 22-year-old Brazilian male patient first presented with coughing and precordialgia. Chest scans showed pleural effusion and diffuse areas of ground-glass opacity. A year later, the patient developed severe headache, along with aural fullness, facial pressure, and otorrhea. Imaging detected cerebral thrombosis with failure in the filling of the transverse and left sigmoid sinuses and pachymeningeal thickening in the right cerebral hemisphere, with contrast enhancement. Pure tone audiometry showed thresholds consistent with severe sensorineural hearing loss in the left ear. The patient underwent mastoidectomy with removal of large amounts of inflammatory tissue that were sent to histopathological analysis with compatible signs of IgG4-RD. Corticosteroids and rituximab completed the treatment. CONCLUSIONS Early recognition and appropriate treatment of IgG4-RD are imperative to avoid complications and serious irreversible organ damage. This report has presented an atypical case of IgG4-RD of the left temporal bone that was diagnosed and managed according to current guidelines.

Besides its crucial role during embryo development, eggshells are an essential bioindicator of environmental contaminants. However, the effects of contaminant exposure during incubation on the eggshell composition remain poorly known for freshwater turtles. Accordingly, we tested the effects of incubating the eggs of Podocnemis expansa in substrates containing glyphosate and fipronil formulations on the eggshell's level of mineral and dry matter, crude protein, nitrogen, and ethereal extract. Eggs were incubated in sand moistened with water contaminated with glyphosate Atar 48 at concentrations of 65 or 6500 µg/L, fipronil Regent 800 WG at concentrations of 4 or 400 µg/L, or the combination of 65 µg/L glyphosate and 4 µg/L fipronil and 6500 µg/L glyphosate with 400 µg/L fipronil. Exposure to the tested pesticides, alone or in association, altered the chemical composition of the eggshell of P. expansa, reducing the eggshell's moisture and crude protein content and increasing levels of ethereal extract. These changes may cause significant deficiencies in the mobilization of water and nutrients to the embryo, affecting the development and reproductive success of P. expansa.

Pesticides are considered one of the main causes of the population decline of reptiles worldwide, with freshwater turtles being particularly susceptible to aquatic contamination. In this context, we investigated the potential mutagenic, hepatotoxic, and neurotoxic effects in neonates of Podocnemis expansa exposed to substrate contaminated with different concentrations of glyphosate and/or fipronil during embryonic development. Eggs collected from the natural environment were artificially incubated in sand moistened with pure water, water added with glyphosate Atar 48® at concentrations of 65 and 6500 µg/L (groups G1 and G2, respectively), water added with fipronil Regent® 800WG at 4 and 400 µg/L (groups F1 and F2, respectively) and, water added with the combination of 65 µg/L glyphosate and 4 µg/L fipronil or with 6500 µg/L glyphosate and 400 µg/L fipronil (groups GF1 and GF2, respectively). For mutagenicity analysis, we evaluated the frequency of micronuclei (MN) and other erythrocyte nuclear abnormalities (ENAs), while for evaluation of hepatotoxicity and neurotoxicity, livers and encephalon were analyzed for histopathological alterations. Exposure to pesticides, alone or in combination, increased the frequency of erythrocyte nuclear abnormalities, particularly blebbed nuclei, moved nuclei, and notched nuclei. Individuals exposed to fipronil exhibited congestion and inflammatory infiltrate in their liver tissue, while, in the encephalon, congestion, and necrosis were present. Our study confirms that the incubation of eggs in substrate polluted with glyphosate and fipronil causes histopathological damage and mutagenic alteration in P. expansa, highlighting the importance of using different biomarkers to evaluate the ecotoxicological effects of these pesticides, especially in oviparous animals.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate how relationships between guardians and domestic animals were established and their possible effects during the COVID-19 pandemic period in Brazil. METHODS: Data were collected by completing an online questionnaire. Throughout the national territory, 2002 people completed the questionnaire, while respecting social distancing from January 20, 2021, to March 20, 2021. The inclusion and exclusion criteria were 'to own pets' or 'those who had them during the period of quarantine' in Brazil. The data obtained were treated qualitatively through discourse analysis and content analysis, while the quantitative data were tabulated by the questionnaire application platform itself. RESULTS: The results showed that 97% of the participants were affected by the coronavirus pandemic in Brazil and that of these, 95.5% stated that their pet was important to overcome and bear bad feelings during the period of social isolation. It was possible to observe through the participants' reports through the online questionnaire that the relationships with their pets were deepened during the pandemic period, and that these had an important role in overcoming bad emotions caused by social distancing. CONCLUSION: It was concluded that due to these relationships, behaviors such as anxiety and sadness were reduced and the pets themselves also showed an increase in affective behaviors in relation to their guardians.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate the electrical activity of the rectus femoris, tibialis anterior, and lateral gastrocnemius muscles during the sit-to-stand task and functional mobility after a neurofunctional physiotherapy protocol associated with PBM. METHODS: Twenty-five children were randomly allocated to either Active PBM + physiotherapy (n = 13) or PBM sham + physiotherapy (n = 12). PBM was carried out with a LED device (850 nm, 25 J, 50 s per point and 200 mW) at four points over the area with absence of a spiny process. Both groups completed a twelve-week supervised program with two weekly 45-60 min sessions. Pre-training and post-training assessments involved the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI). Muscle activity was assessed using portable electromyography (BTS Engineering) and the electrodes were positioned on the lateral gastrocnemius, anterior tibialis, and rectus femoris muscles. The RMS data were recorded and analyzed. RESULTS: After 24 sessions of the treatment protocol, improvements were found in the PEDI score. The participants presented greater independence in performing the tasks, requiring less assistance from their caregivers. More significant electrical activity was found in the three muscles evaluated between the rest period and execution of the sit-to-stand tasks, both in the more compromised or less compromised lower limbs. CONCLUSION: Neurofunctional physiotherapy with or without PBM improved functional mobility and electrical muscle activity in children with myelomeningocele.

The growing use of synthetic chemical compounds/substances in vector control of mosquitoes, associated with their adverse effects on the environment and non-target organisms, has demanded the development of eco-friendly alternatives. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the larvicidal action of different cellulose microcrystalline (CMs) concentrations and investigate their toxicity mechanisms in Culex quinquefasciatus fourth instar larvae as a model species. Probit analysis revealed that the median lethal concentrations (LC50) for 24 h and 36 h exposure were 100 and 58.29 mg/L, respectively. We also showed that such concentrations induced a redox imbalance in the larvae, marked by an increase in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), as well as a reduction in the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT). Furthermore, different alterations in the external morphology of the larvae were associated with the ingestion of CMs. On the other hand, exposure of adult zebrafish (Danio rerio) to LC5024h and LC5036h for seven days did not induce any behavioral changes or alterations mutagenic, genotoxic, biochemical, or in the production of cytokines IFN-γ and IL-10. Thus, taken together, our study demonstrates for the first time that the use of CMs can constitute a promising strategy in the control of C. quinquefasciatus larvae, combining insecticidal efficiency with an "eco-friendly" approach in the fight against an important mosquito vector of several human diseases.

Eugenia brejoensis Mazine (Myrtaceae) is source of an essential oil (EbEO) with anti-infective activities against Staphylococcus aureus. This study evaluated the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory potentials of EbEO in S. aureus-infected skin wounds. The excisional lesions (64 mm2) were induced on Swiss mice back (6 to 8-week-old) that were allocated into 3 groups (n = 12): 1) non-infected wounds (CON); 2) wounds infected with S. aureus ATCC 6538 (Sa); 3) S. aureus-infected wounds and treated with EbEO (Sa + EbEO). The infected groups received approximately 104 CFU/wound. The animals were treated with EbEO (10 µg/wound/day) or vehicle from the 1-day post-infection (dpi) until the 10th dpi. The clinical parameters (wound area, presence of exudate, edema intensity, etc.) were daily analyzed. The levels of inflammatory mediators (cytokines, nitric oxide, VEGF) and bacterial load were measured at the cutaneous tissue at 4th dpi and 10th dpi. Topical application of EbEO accelerated wound contraction with an average contraction of 83.48 ± 11.27 % of the lesion area until 6th dpi. In this period, the rates of lesion contraction were 54.28 ± 5.57% and 34.5 ± 2.67% for CON and Sa groups, respectively. The positive effects of EbEO on wound contraction were associated with significantly (p < 0.05) reduction on bacterial load and the release of inflammatory mediators (IL-6, IL-17A, TNF-α, NO and VEGF). Taken together, these data confirm the antimicrobial potential of EbEO and provide insights into its anti-inflammatory effects, making this essential oil an interesting candidate for the development of new therapeutic alternatives for infected cutaneous wounds.

Pesticides are widely used in agricultural production; moreover, they can have direct and indirect effect on both flora and fauna. Aquatic organisms, among other animals, including reptiles, are mainly susceptible to contamination effects. Accordingly, the aim of the present study is to test the hypothesis that the incubation of Podocnemis expansa eggs in substrate added with glyphosate and fipronil formulations changes their viability, interferes with their growth and induces bone alterations. Eggs collected in natural environment were artificially incubated in sand moistened with water added with glyphosate Atar 48, at concentrations of 65 or 6500 µg/L (groups G1 and G2, respectively), and with fipronil Regent 800 WG at 4 or 400 µg/L (groups F1 and F2, respectively) or, yet, with the combination of 65 µg/L glyphosate and 4 µg/L fipronil, or with 6500 µg/L glyphosate and 400 µg/L fipronil (groups GF1 and GF2, respectively). The level of exposure to the herein assessed pesticides was quantified at the end of the incubation period; it was done by dosing its concentration in eggshells. Eggs exposed to the tested pesticides did not have their viability affected by it; however, all embryos exposed to the tested pesticides showed lowered body mass at hatch, as well as impaired development. In addition, bone malformation in the scleral ossicular ring was observed in individuals in groups F1, F2 and GF1. Pesticides accumulated in eggshells at concentrations related to exposure level. Thus, the recorded results have evidenced some remarkably relevant, and previously unknown, impacts associated with the exposure of a species listed as lower risk/conservation dependent, which spends most of its life in the water, to two widely used pesticides, at a very sensitive stage of its life, namely: egg incubation on land.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a treatment that requires long periods of hospitalization. The mobility restrictions result in physical, functional and psychological impairments. Physical exercise is a therapy that can restore physical and functional capacities; however, it is necessary to understand the effects of its practice in post-HSCT individuals. The purpose of this systematic review (SR) was to assess the impact of physical exercise in children and adolescents undergoing HSCT. The SR was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines through search in the electronic databases Embase, Lilacs, PEDro, PubMed and SCOPUS, without limitation of dates and languages. Randomized or non-randomized clinical trials with children and adolescents who underwent HSCT, aged between 3 to 19 years old, who participated in a regular physical activity program, were assessed. After removing duplicates and selecting studies according to the eligibility criteria, seven parallel studies incorporating hospitalized and discharged participants undertaking aerobic and strengthening exercises were included in this study. The main outcomes analyzed were exercise capacity, quality-of-life, body composition and freedom. Five studies comprised the meta-analysis regarding the effects of the distance walked in the 6-min walk test and quality-of-life. Physical exercise is considered to be safe, feasible and efficacious to prevent the decline of the quality-of-life in children and adolescents undergoing HCST, as well as a considerable improvement in physical capacity.

The purpose of this study was to determine what patient and pulmonary vein characteristics at the diagnosis of intraluminal pulmonary vein stenosis (PVS) are predictive of individual vein outcomes. A retrospective, single-center, cohort sub-analysis of individual pulmonary veins of patients enrolled in the clinical trial NCT00891527 using imatinib mesylate +/- bevacizumab as adjunct therapy for the treatment of multi-vessel pediatric PVS between March 2009 and December 2014 was performed. The 72-week outcomes of the individual veins are reported. Among the 48 enrolled patients, 46 patients and 182 pulmonary veins were included in the study. Multivariable analysis demonstrated that patients with veins without distal disease at baseline (odds ratio, OR 3.69, 95% confidence interval, CI [1.52, 8.94], p = 0.004), location other than left upper vein (OR 2.58, 95% CI [1.07, 6.19], p = 0.034), or veins in patients ≥ 1 y/o (OR 5.59, 95% CI [1.81, 17.3], p = 0.003) were at higher odds of having minimal disease at the end of the study. Veins in patients who received a higher percentage of eligible drug doses required fewer reinterventions (IRR 0.76, 95% CI [0.68, 0.85], p < 0.001). The success of a multi-modal treatment approach to aggressive PVS depends on the vein location, disease severity, and drug dose intensity.
