RESUMO

Commercial chemicals are used extensively across urban centres worldwide1, posing a potential exposure risk to 4.2 billion people2. Harmful chemicals are often assessed on the basis of their environmental persistence, accumulation in biological organisms and toxic properties, under international and national initiatives such as the Stockholm Convention3. However, existing regulatory frameworks rely largely upon knowledge of the properties of the parent chemicals, with minimal consideration given to the products of their transformation in the atmosphere. This is mainly due to a dearth of experimental data, as identifying transformation products in complex mixtures of airborne chemicals is an immense analytical challenge4. Here we develop a new framework-combining laboratory and field experiments, advanced techniques for screening suspect chemicals, and in silico modelling-to assess the risks of airborne chemicals, while accounting for atmospheric chemical reactions. By applying this framework to organophosphate flame retardants, as representative chemicals of emerging concern5, we find that their transformation products are globally distributed across 18 megacities, representing a previously unrecognized exposure risk for the world's urban populations. More importantly, individual transformation products can be more toxic and up to an order-of-magnitude more persistent than the parent chemicals, such that the overall risks associated with the mixture of transformation products are also higher than those of the parent flame retardants. Together our results highlight the need to consider atmospheric transformations when assessing the risks of commercial chemicals.

Cold heavy oil production with sand (CHOPS) is an extraction process for heavy oil in Canada, with the potential to lead to higher CH4 venting than conventional oil sites, that have not been adequately characterized. In order to quantify CH4 emissions from CHOPS activities, a focused aerial measurement campaign was conducted in the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan in June 2018. Total CH4 emissions from each of 10 clusters of CHOPS wells (containing 22-167 well sites per cluster) were derived using a mass balance computation algorithm that uses in situ wind data measurement on board aircraft. Results show that there is no statistically significant difference in CH4 emissions from CHOPS wells between the two provinces. Cluster-aggregated emission factors (EF) were determined using correspondingly aggregated production volumes. The average CH4 EF was 70.4 ± 36.9 kg/m3 produced oil for the Alberta wells and 55.1 ± 13.7 kg/m3 produced oil for the Saskatchewan wells. Using these EF and heavy oil production volumes reported to provincial regulators, the annual CH4 emissions from CHOPS were estimated to be 121% larger than CHOPS emissions extracted from Canada's National Inventory Report (NIR) for Saskatchewan. The EF were found to be positively correlated with the percentage of nonpiped production volumes in each cluster, indicating higher emissions for nonpiped wells while suggesting an avenue for methane emission reductions. A comparison with recent measurements indicates relatively limited effectiveness of regulations for Saskatchewan compared to those in Alberta. The results of this study indicate the substantial contribution of CHOPS operations to the underreporting observed in the NIR and provide measurement-based EF that can be used to develop improved emissions inventories for this sector and mitigate CH4 emissions from CHOPS operations.

Monitoring of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in air is crucial for understanding their atmospheric impacts and advancing their emission reduction plans. This study presents an innovative integrated methodology suitable for achieving semireal-time high spatiotemporal resolution three-dimensional measurements of VOCs from ground to hundreds of meters above ground. The methodology integrates an active AirCore sampler, custom-designed for deployment from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), a proton-transfer-reaction mass spectrometry (PTR-MS) for sample analysis, and a data deconvolution algorithm for improved time resolution for measurements of multiple VOCs in air. The application of the deconvolution technique significantly improves the signal strength of data from PTR-MS analysis of AirCore samples and enhances their temporal resolution by 4 to 8 times to 4-11 s. A case study demonstrates that the methodology can achieve sample collection and analysis of VOCs within 45 min, resulting in >120-360 spatially resolved data points for each VOC measured and achieving a horizontal resolution of 20-55 m at a UAV flight speed of 5 m/s and a vertical resolution of 5 m. This methodology presents new possibilities for acquiring 3-dimensional spatial distributions of VOC concentrations, effectively tackling the longstanding challenge of characterizing three-dimensional VOC distributions in the lowest portion of the atmospheric boundary layer.

This paper focuses on the speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) for electric drives with model uncertainties and external disturbances. Conventional sliding mode control (CSMC) can only converge asymptotically in the infinite domain and will cause unacceptable sliding mode chattering. To improve the performance of the PMSM speed loop in terms of response speed, tracking accuracy, and robustness, a hybrid control strategy for a fixed-time-convergent sliding mode controller (FSMC) with a fixed-time-convergent sliding mode observer (FSMO) is proposed for PMSM speed regulation using the fixed-time control theory. Firstly, the FSMC is proposed to improve the convergence speed and robustness of the speed loop, which can converge to the origin within a fixed time independent of the initial conditions. Then, the FSMO is used as a compensator to further enhance the robustness of the speed loop and attenuate sliding mode chattering. Finally, simulation and experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively improve the dynamic performance and robustness of the PMSM speed control system.

Freeze-casting has been wildly exploited to construct porous ceramics but usually requires costly and demanding freeze-drying (high vacuum, size limit, and supercooled chamber), which can be avoided by the ambient pressure drying (APD) technique. However, applying APD to freeze-cast ceramic based on an aqueous suspension is still challenging due to inert surface chemistry. Herein, a modified APD strategy is developed to improve the drying process of freeze-cast ceramics by exploiting the simultaneous ice etching, ionic cross-linking, and solvent exchange under mild conditions (-10-0 °C, ambient pressure). This versatile strategy is applicable to various ceramic species, metal ions, and freezing techniques. The incorporated metal ions not only enhance liquid-phase sintering, producing ceramics with higher density and mechanical properties than freeze-cast counterparts, but also render customizable coloration and antibacterial property. The cost-/time-efficient APD is promising for mass production and even successive production of large-size freeze-cast ceramics that exceed the size of commercial freeze-dryers.

Optical tweezers are widely used to measure the mechanical properties of erythrocytes, which is crucial to the study of pathology and clinical diagnosis of disease. During the measurement, the blood sample is diluted and suspended in an exogenous physiological fluid, which may affect the elastic properties of the cells in vitro. Here, we investigate the effect of different diluents on the elastic properties of mouse erythrocytes by quantitatively evaluating their elastic constants using optical tweezers. The diluents are plasma extracted from mouse blood, veterinary blood diluent (V-52D), Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium (DMEM), phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), and normal saline (NS). To create an environment that closely resembles in vivo conditions, the experiment is performed at 36.5 °C. The results show that the spring constant of mouse erythrocytes in plasma is 6.23 ± 0.41 µN m-1. The elasticity of mouse erythrocytes in V-52D and DMEM is 8.21 ± 0.91 and 6.95 ± 0.85 µN m-1, which are higher than that in plasma extracted from blood, whereas, the elasticity in PBS and NS is 4.23 ± 0.85 and 4.68 ± 0.79 µN m-1, which are less than that in plasma extracted from blood. At last, we observe the size and circularity of erythrocytes in different diluents, and consider that the erythrocyte diameter and circularity may affect cell deformability. Our results provide a reference of the diluent choice for measuring the mechanical properties of erythrocytes in vitro.

Coxiella burnetii is an obligate intracellular bacterial pathogen that has evolved a unique biphasic developmental cycle. The infectious form of C. burnetii is the dormant small cell variant (SCV), which transitions to a metabolically active large cell variant (LCV) that replicates inside the lysosome-derived host vacuole. A Dot/Icm type IV secretion system (T4SS), which can deliver over 100 effector proteins to host cells, is essential for the biogenesis of the vacuole and intracellular replication. How the distinct C. burnetii life cycle impacts the assembly and function of the Dot/Icm T4SS has remained unknown. Here, we combine advanced cryo-focused ion beam (cryo-FIB) milling and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) imaging to visualize all developmental transitions and the assembly of the Dot/Icm T4SS in situ. Importantly, assembled Dot/Icm machines were not present in the infectious SCV. The appearance of the assembled Dot/Icm machine correlated with the transition of the SCV to the LCV intracellularly. Furthermore, temporal characterization of C. burnetii morphological changes revealed regions of the inner membrane that invaginate to form tightly packed stacks during the LCV-to-SCV transition at late stages of infection, which may enable the SCV-to-LCV transition that occurs upon infection of a new host cell. Overall, these data establish how C. burnetii developmental transitions control critical bacterial processes to promote intracellular replication and transmission.

Poor selectivity and unintended toxicity to normal organs are major challenges in calcium ion (Ca2+ ) overload tumor therapy. To address this issue, a cell membrane-anchoring nano-photosensitizer (CMA-nPS) is constructed for inducing tumor-specific Ca2+ overload through multistage endogenous Ca2+ homeostasis disruption under light guidance, i.e., the extracellular Ca2+ influx caused by cell membrane damage, followed by the intracellular Ca2+ imbalance caused by mitochondrial dysfunction. CMA-nPS is decorated by two types of functionalized cell membranes, the azide-modified macrophage cell membrane is used to conjugate the dibenzocyclooctyne-decorated photosensitizer, and the vesicular stomatitis virus glycoprotein (VSV-G)-modified NIH3T3 cell membrane is used to guide the anchoring of photosensitizer to the lung cancer cell membrane. The in vitro study shows that CMA-nPS mainly anchors on the cell membrane, and further causes membrane damage, mitochondrial dysfunction, as well as intracellular Ca2+ overload upon light irradiation. Synergistically enhanced antitumor efficiency is observed in vitro and in vivo. This study provides a new synergistic strategy for Ca2+ -overload-based cancer therapy, as well as a strategy for anchoring photosensitizer on the cell membrane, offering broad application prospects for the treatment of lung cancer.

The current classical blood smear technique to observe the morphology of single red blood cells (RBCs) for classification is a laborious and error-prone process. To objectively evaluate the morphology of blood cells, we established a method of computational imaging based on a programmable light emitting diode array. By using quantitative differential phase contrast (qDPC), we characterized the morphology of unlabeled RBCs as well as blood smears. By focusing on comparing the difference of imaging between unlabeled RBCs and stained RBCs under multimode microscopic imaging technology, we demonstrated that qDPC could clearly differentiate discocytes and spherocytes in both unlabeled RBCs and blood smears. The phase map provided by quantitative phase imaging further enhanced the classification accuracy. According to statistical analysis from morphological indexes, the qDPC imaging has a significantly improvement in non-circularity, texture inhomogeneity and equivalent diameters of cells. Thus, this method has a significant superiority in the capability to analyze the morphology of RBCs and could be applied to clinical assays for determining morphological, functional, and structural deterioration of RBCs.

Oxetanocin A (Oxt-A), a novel oxetanosyl N-glycoside nucleoside, was isolated from Bacillus megaterium in 1986. It carries an oxetane ring on the sugar moiety of the nucleoside scaffold, which contributes to differences in its structure from those of common tetrahydrofuranyl-based nucleosides. In view of the unique 3D-spatial framework, the complete synthesis of Oxt-A has been achieved by multiple research groups. The pharmacological properties of this natural product have also been broadly investigated by pharmacists and chemists since its discovery. Notably, the potential antiviral effect of Oxt-A has captured attention of researchers in the field of antiviral agent development. Furthermore, epidemic outbreaks caused by viruses have been stimulating the preparation and modification of various Oxt-A analogs over the past few decades. However, none of the studies have overviewed the antiviral efficacies of this naturally occurring scaffold yet. Thus, the present review summarizes the synthesis, structural modification, and antiviral activities of Oxt-A and its derivatives. We believe that these comprehensive descriptions will provide a novel perspective for the discovery of antivirus drugs with well-improved performance and pave newer paths for combating sudden public health issues triggered by viruses in the future.

Worldwide heavy oil and bitumen deposits amount to 9 trillion barrels of oil distributed in over 280 basins around the world, with Canada home to oil sands deposits of 1.7 trillion barrels. The global development of this resource and the increase in oil production from oil sands has caused environmental concerns over the presence of toxic compounds in nearby ecosystems and acid deposition. The contribution of oil sands exploration to secondary organic aerosol formation, an important component of atmospheric particulate matter that affects air quality and climate, remains poorly understood. Here we use data from airborne measurements over the Canadian oil sands, laboratory experiments and a box-model study to provide a quantitative assessment of the magnitude of secondary organic aerosol production from oil sands emissions. We find that the evaporation and atmospheric oxidation of low-volatility organic vapours from the mined oil sands material is directly responsible for the majority of the observed secondary organic aerosol mass. The resultant production rates of 45-84 tonnes per day make the oil sands one of the largest sources of anthropogenic secondary organic aerosols in North America. Heavy oil and bitumen account for over ten per cent of global oil production today, and this figure continues to grow. Our findings suggest that the production of the more viscous crude oils could be a large source of secondary organic aerosols in many production and refining regions worldwide, and that such production should be considered when assessing the environmental impacts of current and planned bitumen and heavy oil extraction projects globally.

Reactive organic compounds play a central role in the formation of ozone and secondary organic aerosols. The ability to accurately predict their fate, in part, relies upon quantitative knowledge of the chemical and physical parameters associated with the total organic carbon (TOC), which includes both precursors and oxidation products that evolve in the atmosphere over short to long time scales. However, such knowledge, obtained via limited carbon closure experiments, has not been attained for complex anthropogenic emissions. Here we present the first comprehensive characterization of TOC in the atmospheric oxidation of organic vapors from light and heavy oil mixtures associated with oil sand operations. Despite the complexity of the investigated oil mixtures, we are able to achieve carbon closure (83-116%) within the uncertainties (±20%), with the degree of the closure being dependent upon the vapor composition and NOx levels. In contrast to biogenic precursors (e.g., α-pinene), the photochemical time scale required for a largely complete oxidation and evolution of chemical parameters is very long for the petrochemical vapors (i.e., ∼7-10 days vs ∼1 day), likely due to the lower initial precursor reactivity. This suggests that petrochemical emissions and their impacts are likely to extend further spatially than biogenic emissions, and retain more of their complex composition and reactivity for many days. The results of this work provide key parameters to regional models for further improving the representation of the chemical evolution of petrochemical emissions.

Tailings ponds in the oil sands (OS) region in Alberta, Canada, have been associated with fugitive emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other pollutants to the atmosphere. However, the contribution of tailings ponds to the total fugitive emissions of VOCs from OS operations remains uncertain. To address this knowledge gap, a field study was conducted in the summer of 2017 at Suncor's Pond 2/3 to estimate emissions of a suite of pollutants including 68 VOCs using a combination of micrometeorological methods and measurements from a flux tower. The results indicate that in 2017, Pond 2/3 was an emission source of 3322 ± 727 tons of VOCs including alkanes, aromatics, and oxygenated and sulfur-containing organics. While the total VOC emissions were approximately a factor of 2 higher than those reported by Suncor, the individual VOC species emissions varied by up to a factor of 12. A chemical mass balance (CMB) receptor model was used to estimate the contribution of the tailings pond to VOC pollution events in a nearby First Nations and Metis community in Fort McKay. CMB results indicate that Suncor Pond 2/3 contributed up to 57% to the total mass of VOCs measured at Fort McKay, reinforcing the importance of accurate VOC emission estimation methods for tailings ponds.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the activity changes in neurology clinical practice that have occurred in tertiary public hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: Outpatient and inpatient data from the neurology department were extracted from the electronic medical record system of three tertiary Grade A hospitals in Wenzhou. Data were analyzed across 5 months following the beginning of the pandemic (from January 13 to May 17) and compared with the same period in 2019. Data on reperfusion therapy for acute infarction stroke were extracted monthly from January to April. RESULTS: The number of outpatients declined from 102,300 in 2019 to 75,154 in 2020 (26.54%), while the number of inpatients in the three tertiary Grade A hospitals decreased from 4641 to 3437 (25.94%). The latter trend showed a significant drop from the 3rd week to the 7th week. The number of patients in these hospitals decreased significantly, and a significant drop was seen in the neurology department. As usual, stroke was the most common disease observed; however, anxiety/depression and insomnia increased dramatically in the outpatient consultation department. CONCLUSIONS: The results of our study revealed the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the clinical practice of neurology in Wenzhou during the outbreak. Understanding the pandemic's trends and impact on neurological patients and health systems will allow for better preparation of neurologists in the future.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are involved in the regulation of gene expression in different physiological and pathological processes. These macromolecules can act as microRNA (miRNA) sponges and play an important role as gene regulators throughout the circRNA-miRNA pathway. In this study, we established a radioresistance model with the nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell line CNE-2, and then analyzed the differences in the circRNAs between radioresistant and normal nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell lines using a high-throughput microarray. Tested circRNAs included 1042 upregulated and 1558 downregulated circRNAs. Relevant signaling pathways associated with the circRNAs and their target miRNAs were analyzed using bioinformatics analysis to determine the radioresistance of the differentially expressed circRNAs. Curcumin was used to treat irradiated cell lines, and changes in the circRNA before and after curcumin treatment were analyzed to investigate the radiosensitization effects of curcumin. The results showed that curcumin could regulate the circRNA-miRNA-messenger RNA network and inhibit the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (STAT3), and growth factor receptor-bound protein 2 (GRB2) to achieve radiosensitization. Thus, circRNA acted as a miRNA sponge and regulated the expression of miRNA, thereby affecting EGFR, STAT3, and GRB2 expression and radiosensitization.

BACKGROUND: The stem cell factor SALL4 is reactivated in human cancers. SALL4 plays diverse roles in tumor growth, metastasis, and drug resistance, but its role in tumor metabolism has not been well characterized. METHODS: The glycolytic levels of gastric cancer cells were detected by glucose uptake, lactate production, lactate dehydrogenase activity, ATP level, and hexokinase activity. QRT-PCR and western blot were used to detect the changes in the expression of glycolytic genes and proteins. The downstream target genes of SALL4 were identified by microarray. The regulation of hexokinase II (HK-2) by SALL4 was analyzed by luciferase reporter assay and chromatin immunoprecipitation assay. Transwell migration assay, matrigel invasion assay, cell counting assay and colony formation assay were used to study the roles of HK-2 regulation by SALL4 in gastric cancer cells in vitro. The effects of SALL4 on glycolysis and gastric cancer progression in vivo were determined by subcutaneous xenograft and peritoneal metastasis tumor models in nude mice. RESULTS: SALL4 knockdown inhibited glucose uptake, lactate production, lactate dehydrogenase activity, ATP level and hexokinase activity in gastric cancer cells, and decreased the expression of glycolytic genes and proteins. Microarray analysis showed that SALL4 knockdown affected glycolysis-related pathway. The regulation of HK-2 gene expression by SALL4 was confirmed by luciferase reporter assay and chromatin immunoprecipitation assay. HK-2 knockdown abrogated the promotion of glycolysis by SALL4 in gastric cancer cells, indicating that HK-2 acts as a downstream effector of SALL4. Moreover, HK-2 knockdown reversed the promoting role of SALL4 in gastric cancer cell proliferation, migration and invasion, suggesting that SALL4 drives gastric cancer progression by upregulating HK-2. CONCLUSIONS: SALL4 promotes gastric cancer progression through HK-2-mediated glycolysis, which reveals a new mechanism for the oncogenic roles of SALL4 in cancer.

Black carbon (BC) emissions from the Canadian oil sand (OS) surface mining facilities in Alberta were investigated using aircraft measurements. BC emission rates were derived with a top-down mass balance approach and were found to be linearly related to the volume of oil sand ore mined at each facility. Two emission factors were determined from the measurements; production-based BC emission factors were in the range of 0.6-1.7 g/tonne mined OS ore, whereas fuel-based BC emission factors were between 95 and 190 mg/kg-fuel, depending upon the facility. The annual BC emission, at 707 ± 117 tonnes/year for the facilities, was determined using the production-based emission factors and annual production data. Although this annual emission is in reasonable agreement with the BC annual emissions reported in the latest version of the Canadian national BC inventory (within 16%), the relative split between off-road diesel and stack sources is significantly different between the measurements and the inventory. This measurement evidence highlights the fact that the stack sources of BC may be overestimated and the off-road diesel sources may be underestimated in the inventory and points to the need for improved BC emission data from diesel sources within facilities.

Phytochemical investigation of the roots of Arnebia euchroma led to the isolation of a new dimeric naphthoquinone, shikometabolin H (1), a new meroterpeniod, epoxyarnebinol (5) and a new ring A-seco hopane triterpenoid, 2, 3-secodiplopterol dioic acid (7), together with 18 known compounds. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses, including UV, IR, HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR. The absolute configuration of 1 was assigned by comparison of the experimental and calculated ECD data, whereas that of 5 was achieved by the comparison between experimental and calculated OR values. Compound 7 was found to be the first ring A-seco hopane triterpenoid ever reported. Data from MTT assays showed that compounds 1, 2, 4, 8, 11-14 and 19 possessed promising anti-proliferative activities in human melanoma cells A375 and A2058, and human colorectal adenocarcinoma cells HCT116 and SW620. In addition, molecular docking study was carried out to predict the possible binding modes of these active compounds with STAT3. Immunoblotting results further confirmed the inhibitory effects of compounds 1, 4, 8, 11, 14 and 19 on STAT3, which was indicated by the downregulated protein levels of phosphorylated and/or total STAT3 in A2058 and HCT116 cells.

The United States is now experiencing the most rapid expansion in oil and gas production in four decades, owing in large part to implementation of new extraction technologies such as horizontal drilling combined with hydraulic fracturing. The environmental impacts of this development, from its effect on water quality to the influence of increased methane leakage on climate, have been a matter of intense debate. Air quality impacts are associated with emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx = NO + NO2) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), whose photochemistry leads to production of ozone, a secondary pollutant with negative health effects. Recent observations in oil- and gas-producing basins in the western United States have identified ozone mixing ratios well in excess of present air quality standards, but only during winter. Understanding winter ozone production in these regions is scientifically challenging. It occurs during cold periods of snow cover when meteorological inversions concentrate air pollutants from oil and gas activities, but when solar irradiance and absolute humidity, which are both required to initiate conventional photochemistry essential for ozone production, are at a minimum. Here, using data from a remote location in the oil and gas basin of northeastern Utah and a box model, we provide a quantitative assessment of the photochemistry that leads to these extreme winter ozone pollution events, and identify key factors that control ozone production in this unique environment. We find that ozone production occurs at lower NOx and much larger VOC concentrations than does its summertime urban counterpart, leading to carbonyl (oxygenated VOCs with a C = O moiety) photolysis as a dominant oxidant source. Extreme VOC concentrations optimize the ozone production efficiency of NOx. There is considerable potential for global growth in oil and gas extraction from shale. This analysis could help inform strategies to monitor and mitigate air quality impacts and provide broader insight into the response of winter ozone to primary pollutants.

BACKGROUND The aim of the present study was to investigate the clinical predictive value of pre-infarction angina (PIA) combined with mean platelet volume to lymphocyte count ratio (MPVLR) for no-reflow phenomenon and short-term mortality in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 1009 STEMI patients who had undergone PCI were enrolled and subdivided into 4 groups based on the occurrence of PIA and the presence of MPVLR above or below the cutoff value. Analysis of the predictors of the no-reflow phenomenon and 90-day mortality was conducted. Further, evaluation and comparison of the clinical predictive value of PIA, MPVLR, and their combination were done. RESULTS Both MPVLR (odds ratio [OR]=1.476, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.401 to 1.756, P<0.001; hazard ratio [HR]=1.430, 95% CI: 1.287 to 1.643, P<0.001) and PIA (OR=0.905, 95% CI: 0.783 to 0.986, P<0.001; HR=0.878, 95% CI: 0.796 to 0.948, P<0.001) were independent predictors of no-reflow phenomenon and 90-day mortality. Spearman's rank correlation test revealed that MPVLR (r=-0.297, P<0.001), monocyte to lymphocyte count ratio (MLR) (r=-0.211, P<0.001) and neutrophil to lymphocyte count ratio (NLR) (r=-0.389, P<0.001) in peripheral blood were significantly negatively correlated with postoperative left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). Upon comparing the area under curve (AUC), the MPVLR combined with PIA achieved better performance in differentiating no-reflow phenomenon (AUC=0.847, 95% CI: 0.821 to 0.874) and 90-day mortality (AUC=0.790, 95% CI: 0.725 to 0.855), than the GRACE score, MPVLR and PIA alone, and had similar performance to all other pairwise combinations of the GRACE score, MPVLR and PIA. CONCLUSIONS High MPVLR and PIA were independent predictors of the no-reflow phenomenon and 90-day mortality in patients with STEMI after PCI. Moreover, Combined application of MPVLR and PIA can effectively predict the occurrence of the no-reflow phenomenon and 90-day mortality.
