BACKGROUND: RET mutations occur in 70% of medullary thyroid cancers, and RET fusions occur rarely in other thyroid cancers. In patients with RET-altered thyroid cancers, the efficacy and safety of selective RET inhibition are unknown. METHODS: We enrolled patients with RET-mutant medullary thyroid cancer with or without previous vandetanib or cabozantinib treatment, as well as those with previously treated RET fusion-positive thyroid cancer, in a phase 1-2 trial of selpercatinib. The primary end point was an objective response (a complete or partial response), as determined by an independent review committee. Secondary end points included the duration of response, progression-free survival, and safety. RESULTS: In the first 55 consecutively enrolled patients with RET-mutant medullary thyroid cancer who had previously received vandetanib, cabozantinib, or both, the percentage who had a response was 69% (95% confidence interval [CI], 55 to 81), and 1-year progression-free survival was 82% (95% CI, 69 to 90). In 88 patients with RET-mutant medullary thyroid cancer who had not previously received vandetanib or cabozantinib, the percentage who had a response was 73% (95% CI, 62 to 82), and 1-year progression-free survival was 92% (95% CI, 82 to 97). In 19 patients with previously treated RET fusion-positive thyroid cancer, the percentage who had a response was 79% (95% CI, 54 to 94), and 1-year progression-free survival was 64% (95% CI, 37 to 82). The most common adverse events of grade 3 or higher were hypertension (in 21% of the patients), increased alanine aminotransferase level (in 11%), increased aspartate aminotransferase level (in 9%), hyponatremia (in 8%), and diarrhea (in 6%). Of all 531 patients treated, 12 (2%) discontinued selpercatinib owing to drug-related adverse events. CONCLUSIONS: In this phase 1-2 trial, selpercatinib showed durable efficacy with mainly low-grade toxic effects in patients with medullary thyroid cancer with and without previous vandetanib or cabozantinib treatment. BACKGROUND: RET fusions are oncogenic drivers in 1 to 2% of non-small-cell lung cancers (NSCLCs). In patients with RET fusion-positive NSCLC, the efficacy and safety of selective RET inhibition are unknown. METHODS: We enrolled patients with advanced RET fusion-positive NSCLC who had previously received platinum-based chemotherapy and those who were previously untreated separately in a phase 1-2 trial of selpercatinib. The primary end point was an objective response (a complete or partial response) as determined by an independent review committee. Secondary end points included the duration of response, progression-free survival, and safety. RESULTS: In the first 105 consecutively enrolled patients with RET fusion-positive NSCLC who had previously received at least platinum-based chemotherapy, the percentage with an objective response was 64% (95% confidence interval [CI], 54 to 73). The median duration of response was 17.5 months (95% CI, 12.0 to could not be evaluated), and 63% of the responses were ongoing at a median follow-up of 12.1 months. Among 39 previously untreated patients, the percentage with an objective response was 85% (95% CI, 70 to 94), and 90% of the responses were ongoing at 6 months. Among 11 patients with measurable central nervous system metastasis at enrollment, the percentage with an objective intracranial response was 91% (95% CI, 59 to 100). The most common adverse events of grade 3 or higher were hypertension (in 14% of the patients), an increased alanine aminotransferase level (in 12%), an increased aspartate aminotransferase level (in 10%), hyponatremia (in 6%), and lymphopenia (in 6%). A total of 12 of 531 patients (2%) discontinued selpercatinib because of a drug-related adverse event. CONCLUSIONS: Selpercatinib had durable efficacy, including intracranial activity, with mainly low-grade toxic effects in patients with RET fusion-positive NSCLC who had previously received platinum-based chemotherapy and those who were previously untreated. BACKGROUND: The 11th revision of the World Health Organization's International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) includes a new disorder, complex posttraumatic stress disorder (CPTSD), the diagnostic applicability of which has not been discussed sufficiently in Chinese culture. The network approach to psychopathology enables investigation of the structure of disorders at the symptom level, which allows for analysis of direct symptom interactions. The main objectives of the present study were to explore CPTSD symptom structure and identify key symptoms in CPTSD among young adults in China. METHODS: The present study collected a large, stratified sample of Beijing university students (1368), ranging from 18 to 25 years old, the majority of whom (65.4%) were female. CPTSD symptoms were assessed using the International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ). A regularized partial correlation network and Bayesian network were applied to estimate the network structure and the upstream symptoms of CPTSD, respectively. RESULTS: The regularized partial correlation network showed that the high central symptoms were feelings of failure and hypervigilance, while the bridge symptom between posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and disturbance in self-organization (DSO) domains was long-term upset. The Bayesian network showed that external avoidance and hypervigilance symptoms were upstream in CPTSD symptoms. CONCLUSIONS: Hypervigilance is a central symptom that can be predictive of other symptoms of CPTSD. While feeling of failure is also a highly central symptom, it may be influenced by other symptoms. In the diagnosis and intervention of CPTSD, more attention should be given to hypervigilance symptoms.

Pyrano[4,3-c]pyridine-diones, which are the key skeleton of bioactive compounds and functional materials, are usually prepared via a multistep synthesis using expensive substrates. This work demonstrates that Rh(III)-catalyzed dual C(sp2)-H functionalization and C-O/C-N annulation of monoamide fumarates can produce pyrano[4,3-c]pyridine-1,5(6H)-diones in high yield (up to 82%) in a single step. The substrates of monoamide fumarates and acetylenes are structurally simple, readily available, and inexpensive. The additive AgSbF6 effectively raised the yields. On account of easier dehydrogenation of OH in the COOH group than NH in the amide group in the reaction, the process first undergoes C-O annulation and then is succeeded by C-N annulation.

In this paper, a criterion for sea surface zoning based on the fractal characteristics of disturbances is demonstrated. To improve radar detection performance in heavy-tailed sea clutter, a multitude of sea clutter models and corresponding optimum and suboptimum detectors have been designed in recent years. However, there are cases where these models and detectors become insufficient to describe the coexistence of noise and sea clutter. The commonly used signal-to-clutter ratio (SCR) can hardly serve as an indicator revealing which kind of disturbances dominate in a certain area since it is difficult to decide the level of SCR at which sea clutter or noise exceeds the other. Therefore, it is necessary that a set of rules reflecting essential differences between sea clutter and noise are proposed to tell areas where sea clutter dominates, areas where sea clutter and noise coexist and areas where noise dominates. Analyzing fractal characteristics of disturbances, we consider the Hurst exponent H as a feature distinguishing sea clutter and noise from each other. A modified Sigmoid function is employed to model the variation in H with range bins, and the derivative of the function helps to formulate a set of rules for sea surface zoning.

BACKGROUND: Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is an effective therapy for recurrent Clostridium difficile infections and chronic gastrointestional infections. However, the risks of FMT and the selection process of suitable donors remain insufficiently characterized. The eligibility rate for screening, underlying microbial basis, and core ethical issues of stool donors for FMT are yet to be elucidated in China. RESULTS: The potential stool donors were screened from December 2017 to December 2019 with the help of an online survey, clinical assessments, and stool and blood testing. Bioinformatics analyses were performed, and the composition and stability of gut microbiota in stool obtained from eligible donors were dynamically observed using metagenomics. Meanwhile, we build a donor microbial evaluation index (DoMEI) for stool donor screening. In the screening process, we also focused on ethical principles and requirements. Of the 2071 participants, 66 donors were selected via the screening process (3.19% success rate). Although there were significant differences in gut microbiota among donors, we found that the changes in the gut microbiota of the same donor were typically more stable than those between donors over time. CONCLUSIONS: DoMEI provides a potential reference index for regular stool donor re-evaluation. In this retrospective study, we summarised the donor recruitment and screening procedure ensuring the safety and tolerability for FMT in China. Based on the latest advances in this field, we carried out rigorous recommendation and method which can assist stool bank and clinicians to screen eligible stool donor for FMT.

In humans, Interleukin-8 (IL-8 or CXCL8) is a granulocytic chemokine with multiple roles within the tumor microenvironment (TME), such as recruiting immunosuppressive cells to the tumor, increasing tumor angiogenesis, and promoting epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). All of these effects of CXCL8 on individual cell types can result in cascading alterations to the TME. The changes in the TME components such as the cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), the immune cells, the extracellular matrix, the blood vessels, or the lymphatic vessels further influence tumor progression and therapeutic resistance. Emerging roles of the microbiome in tumorigenesis or tumor progression revealed the intricate interactions between inflammatory response, dysbiosis, metabolites, CXCL8, immune cells, and the TME. Studies have shown that CXCL8 directly contributes to TME remodeling, cancer plasticity, and the development of resistance to both chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Further, clinical data demonstrate that CXCL8 could be an easily measurable prognostic biomarker in patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors. The blockade of the CXCL8-CXCR1/2 axis alone or in combination with other immunotherapy will be a promising strategy to improve antitumor efficacy. Herein, we review recent advances focusing on identifying the mechanisms between TME components and the CXCL8-CXCR1/2 axis for novel immunotherapy strategies.

BACKGROUND: The anti-immunological rejection therapy for small-for-size syndrome (SFSS) after live donor liver transplantation (LDLT) play a central role in keeping graft survival. The hepatocyte number and grafts function has undergone real-time changes with the proliferation and apoptosis of the grafts after reperfusion. Lacking an accurate and effective treatment regiments or indicators to guide the use of immunosuppressive drugs in SFS liver transplantation has made immunotherapy after SFS liver transplantation an urgent problem to be solved. Herein, we established small-for-size (SFS) and normal size liver transplantation model in rats to explore the effective indicators in guiding immunotherapy, to find an effective way for overcoming SFSS. METHODS: Lewis rats (donors) and BN rats (recipients) were used to mimic allograft liver transplantation and treated with tacrolimus. Local graft immune response was analyzed through haematoxylin and eosin and immunohistochemistry. Flow cytometry was used to assess the overall immune status of recipient. The pharmacokinetics mechanism of immunosuppressive drugs was explored through detecting CYP3A2 expression at mRNA level and protein levels. RESULTS: The results showed the local immune reaction of SFS grafts and systemic immune responses of recipient were significantly increased compared with those in normal size grafts and their recipient at four days after liver transplantation. Regression equation was used to regulate the tacrolimus dose which not only controlled tacrolimus serum concentration effectively but alleviated liver damage and improved survival rate. CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that AST level and tacrolimus serum concentrations are effective indicators in guiding immunotherapy. Regression equation (TD = - 0.494TC-0.0035AST + 260.487) based on AST and tacrolimus serum concentration can be used as a reference for adjustment of immunotherapy after SFS liver transplantation, which is applicable in clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: Although promising results have recently been reported using dendritic cells (DCs) and cytokine-induced killer cells (CIKs) to treat pancreatic cancer (PC), its clinical effect and safety are associated with some controversy, and lack sufficient evidence. Here, we conducted a meta-analysis of 21 clinical trials to better evaluate the efficacy of DC-CIK immunotherapy in clinical practice to treat PC. METHODS: PubMed, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform (WANFANG Data) were searched to identify clinical trials that used DC-CIK immunotherapy for PC. Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 and Stata 12.0. RESULTS: A total of 21 clinical trials involving 1549 patients were included. Compared with traditional treatment, DC-CIK immunotherapy improved and increased the clinical indices such as complete remission, partial remission, overall response rate, disease control rate, overall survival (0.5-y OS, 1-y OS, 1.5-y OS, 2-y OS and 3-y OS), interferon γ and CD3+, CD4+, CD4+/CD8+ and CD3+CD56+ lymphocyte. Additionally, DC-CIK immunotherapy reduced stable disease, progression disease, mortality, CD8+, CD4+CD25+CD127 low lymphocyte and interleukin-4. Furthermore, it showed a low incidence of adverse reactions (22%). CONCLUSION: In contrast to traditional therapy, DC-CIK immunotherapy not only shows improved short-term effect, long-term effect and immunologic function, but also reduces mortality and negative immunoregulatory index, and shows mild adverse reactions. This is the first study to evaluate the clinical effect and safety of DC-CIK immunotherapy for PC, and it indicated that DC-CIK immunotherapy may be suitable for patients with advanced PC or intolerance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Vehicle to everything (V2X) has been deemed a promising technology due to its potential to achieve traffic safety and efficiency. This paper considers a V2X downlink system with a simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system where the base station not only conveys data and energy to two types of wireless vehicular receivers, such as one hybrid power-splitting vehicular receiver, and multiple energy vehicular receivers, but also prevents information from being intercepted by the potential eavesdroppers (idle energy vehicular receivers). Both the base station and the energy vehicular receivers are equipped with multiple antennas, whereas the information vehicular receiver is equipped with a single antenna. In particular, the imperfect channel state information (CSI) and the practical nonlinear energy harvesting (EH) model are taken into account. The non-convex optimization problem is formulated to maximize the minimum harvested energy power among the energy vehicular receivers satisfying the lowest harvested energy power threshold at the information vehicular receiver and secure vehicular communication requirements. In light of the intractability of the optimization problem, the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) technique and variable substitutions are applied, and the optimal solution is proven to be tight. A number of results demonstrate that the proposed robust secure beamforming scheme has better performance than other schemes.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) are known to home to sites of tumor microenvironments where they participate in the formation of the tumor microenvironment and to interplay with tumor cells. However, the potential functional effects of MSCs on tumor cell growth are controversial. Here, we, from the view of bone marrow MSC-derived exosomes, study the molecular mechanism of MSCs on the growth of human osteosarcoma and human gastric cancer cells. METHODS: MSCs derived from human bone marrow (hBMSCs) were isolated and cultured in complete DMEM/F12 supplemented with 10% exosome-depleted fetal bovine serum and 1% penicillin-streptomycin, cell culture supernatants containing exosomes were harvested and exosome purification was performed by ultracentrifugation. Osteosarcoma (MG63) and gastric cancer (SGC7901) cells, respectively, were treated with hBMSC-derived exosomes in the presence or absence of a small molecule inhibitor of Hedgehog pathway. Cell viability was measured by transwell invasion assay, scratch migration assay and CCK-8 test. The expression of the signaling molecules Smoothened, Patched-1, Gli1 and the ligand Shh were tested by western blot and RT-PCR. RESULTS: In this study, we found that hBMSC-derived exosomes promoted MG63 and SGC7901 cell growth through the activation of Hedgehog signaling pathway. Inhibition of Hedgehog signaling pathway significantly suppressed the process of hBMSC-derived exosomes on tumor growth. CONCLUSION: Our findings demonstrated the new roles of hedgehog signaling pathway in the hBMSCs-derived exosomes induced tumor progression.

Objective: The present study aims to analyze the chemotaxis genes and proteins of several PAH-degrading Novosphingobium strains, and the chemotaxis of these strains toward aromatic compounds and intermediates. Methods: Based on genome comparative analysis, we identified the chemotaxis genes organization and proteins distribution. We used drop and swarm plate assays to detect the chemotaxis of these strains toward aromatic compounds and intermediates of TCA cycle. Results: We found that all these Novosphingobium strains showed chemotaxis, but the chemotatic ability varied. The completed genome sequenced strains N. pentaromativorans F2, N. pentaromativorans US6-1, N. pentaromativorans PP1Y, Novosphingobium sp. AP12, Novosphingobium sp. Rr 2-17, and Novosphingobium nitrogenifigens DSM 19370 contained MCP, CheW, CheA, CheB, CheR and CheY. Strain F2, US6-1 and PP1Y, shared a consistent order of chemotaxis genes in "che" cluster. The chemotatic system of these Novosphingobium strains belonged to the Fla chemotactic system. Conclusion: These strains all contained a complete chmotaxis pathway. Their chemotactic ability toward aromatic compounds and intermediates varied, and the chemotaxis of US6-1 was obvious.

Soil is an important environmental reservoir of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), which are increasingly recognized as environmental contaminants. Methods to assess the risks associated with the acquisition or transfer of resistance mechanisms are still underdeveloped. Quantification of background levels of antibiotic resistance genes and what alters those is a first step in understanding our environmental resistome. Toward this goal, 62 samples were collected over 3 years from soils near the 30-year old Gondwana Research Station and for 4 years before and during development of the new Jang Bogo Research Station, both at Terra Nova Bay in Antarctica. These sites reflect limited and more extensive human impact, respectively. A qPCR array with 384 primer sets targeting antibiotic resistance genes and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) was used to detect and quantify these genes. A total of 73 ARGs and MGEs encompassing eight major antibiotic resistance gene categories were detected, but most at very low levels. Antarctic soil appeared to be a common reservoir for seven ARGs since they were present in most samples (42%-88%). If the seven widespread genes were removed, there was a correlation between the relative abundance of MGEs and ARGs, more typical of contaminated sites. There was a relationship between ARG content and distance from both research stations, with a significant effect at the Jang Bogo Station especially when excluding the seven widespread genes; however, the relative abundance of ARGs did not increase over the 4 year period. Silt, clay, total organic carbon, and SiO2 were the top edaphic factors that correlated with ARG abundance. Overall, this study identifies that human activity and certain soil characteristics correlate with antibiotic resistance genes in these oligotrophic Antarctic soils and provides a baseline of ARGs and MGEs for future comparisons.

A novel Gram-staining-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile, yellow bacterium designated strain KD53(T), was isolated from a culture of the alga Phaeodactylum tricornutum from Xiamen, Fujian Province, China. 16S rRNA gene sequence comparison showed that strain KD53(T) was a member of the Roseobacter clade within the family Rhodobacteraceae , forming a distinct lineage with species of the genus Mameliella . The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities between strain KD53(T) and other strains examined were all less than 97.0%. Strain KD53(T) was found to grow optimally at 28 °C, at pH 7.5-8.0 and in the presence of 3% (w/v) NaCl. The dominant fatty acids of strain KD53(T) were C18 : 1ω6c and/or C18 : 1ω7c, C18 : 0 and C16 : 0. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol. The DNA G+C content was 65 mol% and the major respiratory quinone was ubiquinone 10 (Q-10). On the basis of phenotypic data and phylogenetic inference, strain KD53(T) represents a novel member of the genus Mameliella , then the name Mameliella phaeodactyli sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is KD53(T) ( =MCCC 1K00273(T) =KCTC 42178(T)).

A novel Gram-stain-negative, horseshoe-shaped, non-motile bacterium, designated strain KD51(T), forming colonies coloured pink by carotenoid pigments, was isolated from aggregates of the alga Chlorella autotrophica collected from the coastal sea off the city of Xiamen, Fujian Province, China. 16S rRNA gene sequence comparison showed that strain KD51(T) was a member of the genus Cyclobacterium, forming a distinct lineage with Cyclobacterium lianum HY9(T). The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between strain KD51(T) and the type strains of species of the genus Cyclobacterium ranged from 92.1 % to 95.2 %. Growth occurred at 4-40 °C (optimum, 28 °C), in the presence of 3-9 % NaCl (optimum, 3-5 %) and at pH 6-10 (optimum, pH 7.5). The dominant fatty acids (>20 %) of strain KD51(T) were iso-C15 : 0 (32.2 %) and summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c; 22.2 %). The DNA G+C content was 41.7 mol% and the only respiratory quinone was menaquinone-7. On the basis of phenotypic data and phylogenetic inference, strain KD51(T) represents a novel species of the genus Cyclobacterium, for which the name Cyclobacterium xiamenense sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is KD51(T) ( = CGMCC 1.12432(T) = KCTC 32253(T)). An emended description of the genus Cyclobacterium is also proposed.

A novel Gram-staining-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile, reddish-orange and chemoheterotrophic bacteria, designated strain KD52(T), was isolated from a culture of the alga Phaeodactylum tricornutum from Xiamen, Fujian Province, China. 16S rRNA gene sequence comparison showed that strain KD52(T) was a member of the family Saprospiraceae, forming a distinct lineage with 'Portibacter lacus' KCTC 23747. The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between strain KD52(T) and the type strains of species of the family Saprospiraceae ranged from 86% to 89%. Growth occurred at 20-37 °C (optimum, 28 °C), in the presence of 1-9% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 2.5%) and at pH 5-8.5 (optimum, pH 6.0). The dominant fatty acids (>10%) of strain KD52(T) were iso-C15:0 (33.1%), iso-C15:1 G (14.8%) and summed feature 3 (comprising C16:1ω7c and/or C16:1ω6c, 13.8%). The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, three unidentified phospholipids, four unknown lipids and one unidentified aminolipid. The DNA G+C content was 51 mol% and the major respiratory quinone was menaquinone-7 (MK-7). On the basis of phenotypic data and phylogenetic inference, strain KD52(T) represents a novel species of a new genus, for which the name Phaeodactylibacter xiamenensis gen. nov., sp. nov., is proposed. The type strain is KD52(T) ( = MCCC 1F01213(T) = KCTC 32575(T)).

OBJECTIVE: Dietary fibre has been linked to lower levels of glycosylated haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) among diabetes patients. The present study aimed to evaluate the long-term effect of dietary fibre on HbA1c levels among Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. DESIGN: Two cross-sectional surveys were conducted in 2006 and 2011, with the second one being a repeat survey on a sub-sample from the initial one. In both surveys, an in-person interview was conducted to collect information on demographic characteristics and lifestyles following a similar protocol. Dietary intake was assessed with a validated FFQ. Anthropometric measures and biochemical assays were performed at the interview. SETTING: Communities in Pudong New Area of Shanghai, China. SUBJECTS: Chinese patients (n 934) with type 2 diabetes mellitus. RESULTS: An inverse association was observed between dietary fibre and glycaemic status indicated by HbA1c level in both surveys, although it was significant only in the first survey. Among 497 patients participating in both surveys, dietary fibre intake at the first survey was inversely associated with uncontrolled glycaemic status at the second survey, with adjusted odds ratios across the tertiles of intake being 1·00, 0·72 (95 % CI 0·43, 1·21) and 0·58 (95 % CI 0·34, 0·99; P trend = 0·048). The change in fibre intake was slightly associated with glycaemic status, with each increase in tertile scores of intake linked to a 0·138 % (ß = -0·138; 95 % CI -0·002, 0·278) decrease in HbA1c value and a 19 % (OR = 0·81; 95 % CI 0·65, 1·02) reduced risk of uncontrolled glycaemic status at the second survey. CONCLUSIONS: Dietary fibre may have a long-term beneficial effect on HbA1c level among Chinese diabetes patients.

Renal tubular injury is a critical factor during the early stages of diabetic nephropathy (DN). Proximal tubular epithelial cells, which contain abundant mitochondria essential for intracellular homeostasis, are susceptible to disruptions in the intracellular environment, making them especially vulnerable to diabetic state disorders, which may be attributed to their elevated energy requirements and reliance on aerobic metabolism. It is widely thought that overactivation of the polyol pathway is implicated in DN pathogenesis, and inhibition of aldose reductase (AR), the rate-limiting enzyme in this pathway, represents a promising therapeutic avenue. WJ-39, a novel aldose reductase inhibitor, was investigated in this study for its protective effects on renal tubules in DN and the underlying mechanisms. Our findings revealed that WJ-39 significantly ameliorated the renal tubular morphology in high-fat diet (HFD)/streptozotocin (STZ)-induced DN rats, concurrently inhibiting fibrosis. Notably, WJ-39 safeguarded the structure and function of renal tubular mitochondria by enhancing mitochondrial dynamics. This involved the regulation of mitochondrial fission and fusion proteins and the promotion of PTEN-induced putative kinase 1 (PINK1)/Parkin-mediated mitophagy. Furthermore, WJ-39 demonstrated the inhibition of endogenous apoptosis by mitigating the production of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS). The protective effects of WJ-39 on mitochondria and apoptosis were countered in high glucose-treated HK-2 cells upon transfection with PINK1 siRNA. Overall, our findings suggest that WJ-39 protects the structural and functional integrity of renal tubules in DN, which may be attributed to its capacity to inhibit aldose reductase activity, activate the PINK1/Parkin signaling pathway, promote mitophagy, and alleviate apoptosis.

Evidence suggests that sex differences commonly occur in trauma-related disorders. The current study aims to explore sex differences in complex posttraumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) symptom networks among Chinese young adults with childhood trauma. The current study utilized a representative sample of college students in Beijing and included 1416 participants (409 men and 907 women) who had childhood trauma experience. CPTSD symptoms were evaluated using the International Trauma Questionnaire. Regularized partial correlation network analysis and Bayesian network analysis were used to estimate the network structure and possible causality of CPTSD symptoms for both sexes. Male and female CPTSD symptom networks had differences in strength centrality and bridge centrality. Nightmares and feelings of failure had the highest strength centrality, and long-term upset and nightmares had the highest bridge centrality for men. Hypervigilance and feelings of failure had the highest strength centrality, and long-term upset and exaggerated startle response had the highest bridge centrality for women. The current study provides the first evidence of sex differences in the CPTSD symptom network among Chinese young adults with childhood trauma. Young men and women differed in highly central symptoms, which may speak to sex specificity in the main manifestations of CPTSD symptoms.
