RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Epidemiological studies have revealed a significant association between impaired kidney function and certain mental disorders, particularly bipolar disorder (BIP) and major depressive disorder (MDD). However, the evidence regarding shared genetics and causality is limited due to residual confounding and reverse causation. METHODS: In this study, we conducted a large-scale genome-wide cross-trait association study to investigate the genetic overlap between 5 kidney function biomarkers (eGFRcrea, eGFRcys, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum urate, and UACR) and 2 mental disorders (MDD, BIP). Summary-level data of European ancestry were extracted from UK Biobank, Chronic Kidney Disease Genetics Consortium, and Psychiatric Genomics Consortium. RESULTS: Using LD score regression, we found moderate but significant genetic correlations between kidney function biomarker traits on BIP and MDD. Cross-trait meta-analysis identified 1 to 19 independent significant loci that were found shared among 10 pairs of 5 kidney function biomarkers traits and 2 mental disorders. Among them, 3 novel genes: SUFU, IBSP, and PTPRJ, were also identified in transcriptome-wide association study analysis (TWAS), most of which were observed in the nervous and digestive systems (FDR < 0.05). Pathway analysis showed the immune system could play a role between kidney function biomarkers and mental disorders. Bidirectional mendelian randomization analysis suggested a potential causal relationship of kidney function biomarkers on BIP and MDD. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the study demonstrated that both BIP and MDD shared genetic architecture with kidney function biomarkers, providing new insights into their genetic architectures and suggesting that larger GWASs are warranted.

RESUMO

Thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) has been extensively investigated for a wide range of applications due to continuous advancements in its fabrication methods. The recent emergence of high-fidelity ferroelectric domain poling of TFLN provides an opportunity for achieving a precise pattern control of ferroelectric domains and a subsequent pattern transfer to the TFLN layer using hydrofluoric acid (HF). In this work, we present, to the best of our knowledge, the first demonstration of z-cut TFLN microdisks using a poling-assisted HF wet etching approach. By applying intense electric fields, we are able to induce a domain inversion in the TFLN with a designed microdisk pattern. A HF solution is subsequently utilized to transfer the inverted domain pattern to the TFLN layer with the selective etching of -z LN, ultimately revealing the microdisks.

RESUMO

The photorefractive (PR) effect plays a critical role in emerging photonic technologies, including dynamic volume holography and on-chip all-optical functionalities. Nevertheless, its slow response rate has posed a significant obstacle to its practical application. Here, we experimentally demonstrate the enhancement of the PR response rate in a high-Q thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) microdisk under UV light irradiation. At an irradiation intensity of 30 mW/cm2, the PR effect achieves a high response bandwidth of approximately 256 kHz. By employing this UV-assisted PR effect, we have achieved rapid laser-cavity locking and self-stabilization, where perturbations are automatically compensated. This technique paves the way toward real-time dynamic holography, editable photonic devices on a lithium niobate platform, and high-speed all-optical information processing.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There is growing interest in novel sexually transmissible infection (STI) prevention strategies, including doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (doxy-PEP). We assessed interest in doxy-PEP and other STI prevention strategies among gay and bisexual men and non-binary people in Australia, as well as prior antibiotic use for STI prevention, and knowledge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). METHODS: We conducted a national, online survey in June-July 2023. Multivariable logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with the acceptability of doxy-PEP. RESULTS: Of 2,046 participants, 26.9% had been diagnosed with an STI in the previous year. Condoms were rated as an acceptable STI prevention strategy by 45.1% of the sample, STI pre-exposure prophylaxis by 54.0%, and doxy-PEP by 75.8%. Previous antibiotic use for STI prevention was reported by 7.5% of the sample, and 2.6% were currently using antibiotics for STI prevention. Over half the sample (62.1%) had some knowledge of AMR. Of those who knew something about AMR,76.2% were concerned about it. Interest in using doxy-PEP was independently associated with previous use of antibiotics for STI prevention (adjusted odds ratio 3.09, 95%CI = 1.78-5.35, p < 0.001), while those who were concerned about AMR were less interested in it (AOR 0.51, 95%CI = 0.36-0.72, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Doxy-PEP was highly acceptable to gay and bisexual men and non-binary people in Australia, and few factors distinguished between interest in using it or not. We recommend community and professional discussion and education about the effective use of doxy-PEP, AMR, and who would most benefit from doxy-PEP.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Since May 2022, mpox outbreaks have been occurring in non-mpox endemic areas, with the main population affected being men who have sex with men (MSM). Outbreak prevention and control depend not only on the effectiveness of vaccines but also on people's willingness to receive these vaccines. Currently, there is lack of synthesis on the overall rates and influence factors of MSMs' willingness to vaccinate against mpox. Therefore, we systematically reviewed studies that assessed the willingness of MSM to receive mpox vaccine. METHODS: Studies reporting mpox vaccination intentions among MSM were included by searching five databases (PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, CINAHL, and SCOPUS) from inception to May 12, 2024. The quality of the included literature was assessed using Joanna Briggs Institute's critical appraisal tool. The data analysis software is Stata17. The systematic review has been registered with Prospero (registration ID: CRD42023452357). RESULTS: Twenty cross-sectional studies were included in the review. Meta-analysis results showed that the pooled willingness rate of vaccinate against mpox was 77.0% (95% CI: 73-81%, I2 = 99.4%). According to subgroup analysis, study countries (P = 0.002), research sample size (P = 0.001), and whether participants were infected with HIV (P = 0.002) may be sources of heterogeneity. The results of the meta-analysis of influencing factors showed that more number of sexual partners (OR: 2.24, 95%CI: 1.86-2.69), pre-exposure prophylaxis use (OR: 6.04, 95%CI: 4.80-7.61), history of sexually transmitted infections (OR: 2.96, 95%CI: 2.33-3.76), confidence in the vaccine's effectiveness (OR: 2.79, 95%CI: 2.04-3.80) and safety (OR: 10.89, 95%CI: 5.22-22.72), fear of mpox infection (OR: 2.47, 95%CI: 2.11-2.89) and epidemics (OR: 2.87, 95%CI: 2.22-3.70), high mpox knowledge (OR: 2.35, 95%CI: 1.51-3.66), and the belief that people at high risk should be prioritized for vaccination (OR: 3.09, 95%CI: 1.40-6.84) were the facilitators of vaccine willingness. In addition, as a secondary outcome, meta-analysis results showed a pooled unwillingness rate of 16% (95% CI: 13-20%, I2 = 98.1%, 9 studies). CONCLUSION: Willingness to vaccinate mpox was high among MSM, but some participants still had negative attitudes towards vaccination. Therefore, the Ministry of Public Health should develop targeted and effective strategies against those influencing factors to prevent and manage mpox outbreaks.

RESUMO

Recently, studies have shown that pesticides may have adverse effects on the flavor quality of the fruits, but there is still a lack of appropriate methods to repair the damage. This study investigated the effects and mechanism of applying the emerging material, nanoselenium, and two fungicides (Boscalid and Pydiflumetofen) alone or together on the flavor quality and antioxidant capacity of strawberries. The results showed that the two fungicides had a negative impact on strawberry color, flavor, antioxidant capacity and different enzymatic systems. The color damage was mainly attributed to the impact on anthocyanin content. Nanoselenium alleviated the quality losses by increasing sugar-acid ratio, volatiles, anthocyanin levels, enzyme activities and DPPH scavenging ability and reducing ROS levels. Results also showed that these damage and repair processes were related to the regulation of flavor and ripening related transcription factors (including FaRIF, FaSnRK1, FaMYB10, FaMYB1, FaSnRK2.6 and FaABI1), the upregulation of genes on sugar-acid, volatile, and anthocyanin synthesis pathways, as well as the increase of sucrose and ABA signaling molecules. In addition, the application of nano-Se supplemented the selenium content in fruits, and was harmless to human health. This information is crucial for revealing the mechanisms of flavor damage caused by pesticides to strawberry and the repaired of nanoselenium, and broadens the researching and applying of nanoselenium in repairing the damage caused by pesticides.

RESUMO

The occurrence of HIV-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) compromises the physical and mental health of people living with HIV (PLWH). This study examined the psychological pathways of HIV-related PTSD symptoms considering the influence of rumination in PLWH of China. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Changsha, China. The data were collected using the PTSD Checklist-Civilian Version, the Ruminative Response Scale, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and measures of sociodemographic and HIV-related clinic characteristics. A total of 602 PLWH were surveyed. The average score of HIV-related PTSD symptoms was (34.54 ± 13.58). The mediation model showed that perceived social stigma and physical health exhibited direct associations with PTSD symptoms (ß = 0.093, -0.145, respectively), while the direct relations of family support, friend support and significant others support to PTSD symptoms were not significant. Rumination mediated the effect of perceived social stigma (ß = 0.077), physical health (ß = -0.150), family support (ß = -0.144) and friend support (ß = -0.105) on PTSD symptoms. The study findings underscore the importance of routinely assessing PTSD for PLWH, and developing trauma-focused interventions that alleviate HIV-related PTSD symptoms and reduce rumination while improving social support and physical health and reducing social stigma.

RESUMO

This paper analyzes the security of an image encryption algorithm based on a two-dimensional hyperchaotic map. This encryption algorithm generated chaotic sequences through a combination of two one-dimensional chaotic maps and used them as the permutation and diffusion key. Then, the image was encrypted by using the structure of row-column permutation, forward-diffusion, and backward-diffusion. The proposer claimed that the above algorithm was secure. However, it was found through cryptanalysis that the algorithm cannot withstand the chosen plaintext attack. Although the forward-diffusion and backward-diffusion of the original algorithm use two different diffusion keys and there is a ciphertext feedback mechanism, the analysis of the diffusion by iterative optimization showed that it can be equivalent to global diffusion. In addition, the generation of chaotic sequences in the encryption process is independent of the plaintext image, so the equivalent diffusion and permutation key stream can be obtained by adjusting the individual pixel values of the chosen plaintexts. Aiming at the security loopholes in the encryption algorithm, the theoretical and experimental results are presented to support the efficiency of the proposed attack and suggestions for improvement are given. Finally, compared with the performance analysis of the existing cracking algorithm, our cryptanalysis greatly improved the cracking efficiency without increasing the complexity of the data.

RESUMO

Due to the equivalent keys revealed by a chosen-plaintext attack or a chosen-ciphertext attack, most of the existing chaotic image encryption schemes are demonstrated to be insecure. In order to improve security performance, some scholars have recently proposed the plaintext-related chaotic image encryption scheme. Although the equivalent effect of a one-time pad is achieved, an additional secure channel is required to transmit the hash values or other parameters related to the plaintext before the ciphertext can be decrypted at the receiving end. Its main drawback is that an absolutely secure channel is needed to transmit the information related to the plaintext, which is not feasible in practical applications. To further solve this problem, this paper proposes a chaotic image encryption scheme based on global dynamic selection of a multi-parallel structure. First, a chaotic sequence is employed to dynamically select DNA encoding rules. Secondly, the permutation with a multi-parallel structure is performed on the DNA-encoded matrix, and the DNA decoding rules are dynamically selected according to another chaotic sequence. Finally, the diffusion rules obtained by the ciphertext feedback mechanism are introduced to determine the dynamic diffusion. Compared with the existing local dynamic encryption schemes, the main advantage of this scheme is that it can realize global dynamic selection, so as to ensure that there is no equivalent key, and it can resist the chosen-ciphertext attack or chosen-plaintext attack and does not need an additional secure channel to transmit parameters related to plaintext, which is practical. A theoretical analysis and numerical experiments demonstrate the feasibility of the method.

RESUMO

Hibernation is a short-term survival strategy for ectotherms to cope with cold weather and food shortages. The energy sources stored before hibernation are used not only in the winter, but also in preparation for reproduction. Reproductive physiology and behavior are primarily regulated by the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonad (HPG) axis. In this study, we examined endocrine hormone changes in the HPG axis of female lizards (Eremias argus) after chlorantraniliprole insecticide (CAP) exposure during hibernation. The levels of gonadotropin-releasing hormone, luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone and progesterone were significantly decreased and the level of testosterone (T) was significantly increased after 135d experiment. This study verified the possible endocrine disrupting effects of CAP. More energy material consumption was observed in CAP treated group. Female E. argus preferred to invest energy to present survival when exposed to CAP, rather than to reserve material for following reproductive activity.

RESUMO

This paper analyzes the security of the image encryption algorithm based on a two-dimensional (2D) infinite collapse map. The encryption algorithm adopts a permutation-diffusion structure and can perform two or more rounds to achieve a higher level of security. By cryptanalysis, it is found that the original diffusion process can be split into a permutation-diffusion structure, which comes after the original permutation, so these two permutations can be merged into one. Then, some theorems about round-down operation are summarized, and the encryption and decryption equations in the diffusion process are deduced and simplified accordingly. Since the chaotic sequences used in encryption algorithm are independent of the plaintext and ciphertext, there are equivalent keys. The original encryption algorithm with single-round, two-round, and multi-round of permutation-diffusion processes is cracked, and the data complexity of the cryptanalysis attacks is analyzed. Numerical simulation is carried out by MATLAB, and the experimental results and theoretical analysis show the effectiveness of the cryptanalysis attacks. Finally, some suggestions for improvement are given to overcome the shortcomings of the original encryption algorithm.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Konjac glucomannan (KGM) showed a synergistic interaction with κ-carrageenan (CAR), which led to the formation of a promising compound hydrocolloid gel in the food field (such as jelly). Nevertheless, the mixed gels formed by adding KGM to CAR still displayed defects in gel strength and syneresis, and would hardly meet the quality requirements of some gel foods. However, deacetylated KGM and maltodextrin (MD) have always been used in gel foods and affect their viscosity and rheological properties. RESULTS: In our paper, different amounts of MD were first used to alter the textural properties, and the results showed that both tensile strength and elongation exhibited first an increasing and then a decreasing trend with the increasing MD proportion and achieved a maximum at a final maltodextrin proportion of 4 g kg-1 in the KGM/CAR/MD system. Based on the above results, we further explored the effects of deacetylation degree of KGM on the gel properties of mixed gel system. The results revealed that, compared to the native KGM, the partial deacetylated KGM was capable of significantly improving the tensile strength and elongation of KGM/CAR mixed gel. CONCLUSION: Our study found that the appropriate addition of MD (0.4%) and DKGM were able to alter the tensile properties of KGM/CAR mixed gel, with potential to meet the needs of consumers and further design innovative tensile gel products in the soft gel industry. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMO

Recently, an image encryption algorithm based on DNA encoding and spatiotemporal chaos (IEA-DESC) was proposed. In IEA-DESC, pixel diffusion, DNA encoding, DNA-base permutation and DNA decoding are performed successively to generate cipher-images from the plain-images. Some security analyses and simulation results are given to prove that it can withstand various common attacks. However, in this paper, it is found that IEA-DESC has some inherent security defects as follows: (1) the pixel diffusion is invalid for attackers from the perspective of cryptanalysis; (2) the combination of DNA encoding and DNA decoding is equivalent to bitwise complement; (3) the DNA-base permutation is actually a fixed position shuffling operation for quaternary elements, which has been proved to be insecure. In summary, IEA-DESC is essentially a combination of a fixed DNA-base position permutation and bitwise complement. Therefore, IEA-DESC can be equivalently represented as simplified form, and its security solely depends on the equivalent secret key. So the equivalent secret key of IEA-DESC can be recovered using chosen-plaintext attack and chosen-ciphertext attack, respectively. Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the two attack methods are both effective and efficient.

RESUMO

Co-conversion of alkane with another reactant over zeolite catalysts has emerged as a new approach to the long-standing challenge of alkane transformation. With the aid of solid-state NMR spectroscopy and GC-MS analysis, it was found that the co-conversion of propane and methanol can be readily initiated by hydride transfer at temperatures of ≥449 K over the acidic zeolite H-ZSM-5. The formation of (13)C-labeled methane and singly (13)C-labeled n-butanes in selective labeling experiments provided the first evidence for the initial hydride transfer from propane to surface methoxy intermediates. The results not only provide new insight into carbocation chemistry of solid acids, but also shed light on the low-temperature transformation of alkanes for industrial applications.

RESUMO

Construction of porous organic polymers (POPs) as asymmetric catalysts remains as an important but challenging task. Herein, we exploit the "bottom-up" strategy to facilely synthesize an α,α,α',α'-tetraaryl-1,3-dioxolane-4,5-dimethanol (TADDOL)-based chiral porous polymer (TADDOL-CPP) for highly efficient asymmetric catalysis. Constructed through the covalent linkages among the three-dimensional rigid monomers, TADDOL-CPP possesses hierarchical porous structure, high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area, together with abundant and uniformly-distributed chiral sites. In the presence of [Ti(OiPr)4], TADDOL-CPP acts as a highly efficient and recyclable catalyst in the asymmetric addition of diethylzinc (Et2Zn) to aromatic aldehydes. Based on the direct observation of the key intermediates, the reaction mechanism has been revealed by solid-state (13)C magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR spectroscopy. In combination with the catalytic testing results, characterization on the working catalyst provides further information for understanding the structure-activity relationship. We suggest that the catalytic activity of TADDOL-CPP is largely affected by the structural rigidity, cooperative catalysis, local chiral environment, and hierarchical porous framework. We expect that the information obtained herein will benefit to the designed synthesis of robust POP catalysts toward practical applications.

RESUMO

Background: Capsaicin is the main compound found in chili pepper and has complex pharmacologic effects. This study aimed to elucidate the mechanism of the effect of capsaicin on physiological processes by analyzing changes in metabolites and metabolic pathways. Methods: Female C57BL/6 mice were divided into two groups(n = 10/group) and fed with capsaicin-soybean oil solution(group T) or soybean oil(group C) for 6 weeks. Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography/quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-qTOF-MS) based metabolomics was undertaken to assess plasma and skin metabolic profile changes and identify differential metabolites through multivariate analysis. Results: According to the OPLS-DA score plots, the plasma and skin metabolic profiles in the group T and group C were significantly separated. In plasma, 38 significant differential metabolites were identified. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis revealed that the most significant plasma metabolic pathways included pyruvate metabolism and ABC transporters. In skin, seven significant differential metabolites were found. Four metabolic pathways with p values < 0.05 were detected, including sphingolipid metabolism, sphingolipid signaling pathway, apoptosis, and necroptosis. Conclusion: These findings will provide metabolomic insights to assess the physiological functions of capsaicin and contribute to a better understanding of the potential effects of a capsaicin-rich diet on health.

RESUMO

Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is one of the most common strokes posing a grave threat to human life and health. Predicting the prognosis of AIS allows for an understanding of disease progress, and a better quality of life by making individualized treatment scheme. In this paper, we conducted a systematic search on PubMed, focusing on the relevant literature in the last 5 years. Summarizing the candidate prognostic biomarkers of AIS in body fluids such as blood, urine, saliva and cerebrospinal fluid is often of great significance for the management of acute ischemic stroke, which has the potential to facilitate early diagnosis, treatment, prevention and long-term outcome improvement.

Acute ischemic stroke stands as a prominent contributor to global mortality and disability rates. This comprehensive review delves into the present state and advancements in the study of prognostic biomarkers for AIS in body fluids, enabling the monitoring of disease progression and prediction of prognosis. Furthermore, we elucidate the utilization of multiple biomarkers to predict outcomes more precisely. This paper emphasizes the importance of predicting disease progression as early as possible so that clinicians can change treatment regimens in time to better treat their patients.
