RESUMO

Rechargeable zinc-air batteries (Re-ZABs) are one of the most promising next-generation batteries that can hold more energy while being cost-effective and safer than existing devices. Nevertheless, zinc dendrites, non-portability, and limited charge-discharge cycles have long been obstacles to the commercialization of Re-ZABs. Over the past 30 years, milestone breakthroughs have been made in technical indicators (safety, high energy density, and long battery life), battery components (air cathode, zinc anode, and gas diffusion layer), and battery configurations (flexibility and portability), however, a comprehensive review on advanced design strategies for Re-ZABs system from multiple angles is still lacking. This review underscores the progress and strategies proposed so far to pursuit the high-efficiency Re-ZABs system, including the aspects of rechargeability (from primary to rechargeable), air cathode (from unifunctional to bifunctional), zinc anode (from dendritic to stable), electrolytes (from aqueous to non-aqueous), battery configurations (from non-portable to portable), and industrialization progress (from laboratorial to practical). Critical appraisals of the advanced modification approaches (such as surface/interface modulation, nanoconfinement catalysis, defect electrochemistry, synergistic electrocatalysis, etc.) are highlighted for cost-effective flexible Re-ZABs with good sustainability and high energy density. Finally, insights are further rendered properly for the future research directions of advanced zinc-air batteries.

RESUMO

Transition metal oxides with the merits of high theoretical capacities, natural abundance, low cost, and environmental benignity have been regarded as a promising anodic material for lithium ion batteries (LIBs). However, the severe volume expansion upon cycling and poor conductivity limit their cycling stability and rate capability. To address this issue, NiO embedded and N-doped porous carbon nanorods (NiO@NCNR) and nanotubes (NiO@NCNT) are synthesized by the metal-catalyzed graphitization and nitridization of monocrystalline Ni(II)-triazole coordinated framework and Ni(II)/melamine mixture, respectively, and the following oxidation in air. When applied as an anodic material for LIBs, the NiO@NCNR and NiO@NCNT hybrids exhibit a decent capacity of 895/832 mA h g-1 at 100 mA g-1, high rate capability of 484/467 mA h g-1 at 5.0 A g-1, and good long-term cycling stability of 663/634 mA h g-1 at 600th cycle at 1 A g-1, which are much better than those of NiO@carbon black (CB) control sample (701, 214, and 223 mA h g-1). The remarkable electrochemical properties benefit from the advanced nanoarchitecture of NiO@NCNR and NiO@NCNT, which offers a length-controlled one-dimensional porous carbon nanoarchitecture for effective e-/Li+ transport, affords a flexible carbon skeleton for spatial confinement, and forms abundant nanocavities for stress buffering and structure reinforcement during discharge/charging processes. The rational structural design and synthesis may pave a way for exploring advanced metal oxide based anodic materials for next-generation LIBs.

RESUMO

High-entropy alloys (HEAs) comprising five or more elements in near-equiatomic proportions have attracted ever increasing attention for their distinctive properties, such as exceptional strength, corrosion resistance, high hardness, and excellent ductility. The presence of multiple adjacent elements in HEAs provides unique opportunities for novel and adaptable active sites. By carefully selecting the element configuration and composition, these active sites can be optimized for specific purposes. Recently, HEAs have been shown to exhibit remarkable performance in electrocatalytic reactions. Further activity improvement of HEAs is necessary to determine their active sites, investigate the interactions between constituent elements, and understand the reaction mechanisms. Accordingly, a comprehensive review is imperative to capture the advancements in this burgeoning field. In this review, we provide a detailed account of the recent advances in synthetic methods, design principles, and characterization technologies for HEA-based electrocatalysts. Moreover, we discuss the diverse applications of HEAs in electrocatalytic energy conversion reactions, including the hydrogen evolution reaction, hydrogen oxidation reaction, oxygen reduction reaction, oxygen evolution reaction, carbon dioxide reduction reaction, nitrogen reduction reaction, and alcohol oxidation reaction. By comprehensively covering these topics, we aim to elucidate the intricacies of active sites, constituent element interactions, and reaction mechanisms associated with HEAs. Finally, we underscore the imminent challenges and emphasize the significance of both experimental and theoretical perspectives, as well as the potential applications of HEAs in catalysis. We anticipate that this review will encourage further exploration and development of HEAs in electrochemistry-related applications.

RESUMO

Heterogeneous electrocatalysis typically depends on the surface electronic states of active sites. Modulating the surface charge state of an electrocatalysts can be employed to improve performance. Among all the investigated materials, nickel (Ni)-based catalysts are the only non-noble-metal-based alternatives for both hydrogen oxidation and evolution reactions (HOR and HER) in alkaline electrolyte, while their activities should be further improved because of the unfavorable hydrogen adsorption behavior. Hereto, Ni with exceptional HOR electrocatalytic performance by changing the d-band center by metal oxides interface coupling formed in situ is endowed. The resultant MoO2 coupled Ni heterostructures exhibit an apparent HOR activity, even approaching to that of commercial 20% Pt/C benchmark, but with better long-term stability in alkaline electrolyte. An exceptional HER performance is also achieved by the Ni-MoO2 heterostructures. The experiment results are rationalized by the theoretical calculations, which indicate that coupling MoO2 with Ni results in the downshift of d-band center of Ni, and thus weakens hydrogen adsorption and benefits for hydroxyl adsorption. This concept is further proved by other metal oxides (e.g., CeO2 , V2 O3 , WO3 , Cr2 O3 )-formed Ni-based heterostructures to engineer efficient hydrogen electrocatalysts.

RESUMO

Versatile electrocatalysis at higher current densities for natural seawater splitting to produce hydrogen demands active and robust catalysts to overcome the severe chloride corrosion, competing chlorine evolution, and catalyst poisoning. Hereto, the core-shell-structured heterostructures composed of amorphous NiFe hydroxide layer capped Ni3 S2 nanopyramids which are directly grown on nickel foam skeleton (NiS@LDH/NF) are rationally prepared to regulate cooperatively electronic structure and mass transport for boosting oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance at larger current densities. The prepared NiS@LDH/NF delivers the anodic current density of 1000 mA cm-2 at the overpotential of 341 mV in 1.0 m KOH seawater. The feasible surface reconstruction of Ni3 S2 -FeNi LDH interfaces improves the chemical stability and corrosion resistance, ensuring the robust electrocatalytic activity in seawater electrolytes for continuous and stable oxygen evolution without any hypochlorite production. Meanwhile, the designed Ni3 S2 nanopyramids coated with FeNi2 P layer (NiS@FeNiP/NF) still exhibit the improved hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity in 1.0 m KOH seawater. Furthermore, the NiS@FeNiP/NF||NiS@LDH/NF pair requires cell voltage of 1.636 V to attain 100 mA cm-2 with a 100% Faradaic efficiency, exhibiting tremendous potential for hydrogen production from seawater.

RESUMO

Efficient bifunctional hydrogen electrocatalysis, encompassing both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR), is of paramount significance in advancing hydrogen-based societies. While non-precious-metal-based catalysts, particularly those based on nickel (Ni), are essential for alkaline HER/HOR, their intrinsic catalytic activity often falls short of expectations. Herein, an internal electric field (IEF) strategy is introduced for the engineering of heterogeneous nickel-vanadium oxide nanosheet arrays grown on porous nickel foam (Ni-V2 O3 /PNF) as bifunctional electrocatalysts for hydrogen electrocatalysis. Strikingly, the Ni-V2 O3 /PNF delivers 10 mA cm-2 at an overpotential of 54 mV for HER and a mass-specific kinetic current of 19.3 A g-1 at an overpotential of 50 mV for HOR, placing it on par with the benchmark 20% Pt/C, while exhibiting enhanced stability in alkaline electrolytes. Density functional theory calculations, in conjunction with experimental characterizations, unveil that the interface IEF effect fosters asymmetrical charge distributions, which results in more thermoneutral hydrogen adsorption Gibbs free energy on the electron-deficient Ni side, thus elevating the overall efficiency of both HER and HOR. The discoveries reported herein guidance are provided for further understanding and designing efficient non-precious-metal-based electrocatalysts through the IEF strategy.

RESUMO

Donor T cells mediate both graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) activity and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT). Development of methods that preserve GVL activity while preventing GVHD remains a long-sought goal. Tolerogenic anti-interleukin-2 (IL-2) monoclonal antibody (JES6-1) forms anti-IL-2/IL-2 complexes that block IL-2 binding to IL-2Rß and IL-2Rγ on conventional T cells that have low expression of IL-2Rα. Here, we show that administration of JES6 early after allo-HCT in mice markedly attenuates acute GVHD while preserving GVL activity that is dramatically stronger than observed with tacrolimus (TAC) treatment. The anti-IL-2 treatment downregulated activation of the IL-2-Stat5 pathway and reduced production of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). In GVHD target tissues, enhanced T-cell programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) interaction with tissue-programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) led to reduced activation of protein kinase-mammalian target of rapamycin pathway and increased expression of eomesodermin and B-lymphocyte-induced maturation protein-1, increased T-cell anergy/exhaustion, expansion of Foxp3-IL-10-producing type 1 regulatory (Tr1) cells, and depletion of GM-CSF-producing T helper type 1 (Th1)/cytotoxic T cell type 1 (Tc1) cells. In recipient lymphoid tissues, lack of donor T-cell PD-1 interaction with tissue PD-L1 preserved donor PD-1+TCF-1+Ly108+CD8+ T memory progenitors and functional effectors that have strong GVL activity. Anti-IL-2 and TAC treatments have qualitatively distinct effects on donor T cells in the lymphoid tissues, and CD8+ T memory progenitor cells are enriched with anti-IL-2 treatment compared with TAC treatment. We conclude that administration of tolerogenic anti-IL-2 monoclonal antibody early after allo-HCT represents a novel approach for preventing acute GVHD while preserving GVL activity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The association between chemotherapy-induced leukopenia (CIL) and survival for patients with early breast cancer (EBC) is not known. We investigated the relationship between different grades of CIL and survival in patients with EBC receiving adjuvant chemotherapy. METHODS: A total of 442 patients with EBC receiving a regimen containing an anthracycline (A) and taxane (T) were included into our analysis. Survival analyses were undertaken using Kaplan-Meier curves. The P-value was calculated using the log rank test. Subgroup analysis was conducted to investigate the correlation of CIL grade and survival based on the clinicopathological characteristics of patients. Afterwards, univariate and multivariate analyses screened out independent prognostic factors to construct a prognostic model, the robustness of which was verified. RESULTS: Patients with EBC who experienced grade 2-4 ("moderate" and "severe") CIL were associated with longer overall survival (OS) than those with grade 0-1 (mild) CIL (P = 0.021). Compared with patients with mild CIL, OS was longer in patients with severe CIL (P = 0.029). Patients who suffered from moderate CIL tended to have longer OS than those with mild CIL (P = 0.082). Nevertheless, there was no distinguishable difference in OS between moderate- or severe-CIL groups. Subgroup analysis revealed that patients with moderate CIL had longer OS than those with mild CIL among patients who were premenstrual, or with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive (HER2+), > 3 lymph nodes with metastases, a tumor diameter > 5 cm. A prognostic model based on menstrual status, N stage, and CIL grade showed satisfactory robustness. CONCLUSION: The grade of CIL was strongly associated with the prognosis among patients with EBC who received a regimen containing both anthracyclines and taxanes. Patients with a "moderate" CIL grade tended to have better survival outcomes.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The prognostic role of either forkhead box A1 (FOXA1) or anterior gradient 2 (AGR2) in breast cancer has been found separately. Considering that there were interplays between them depending on ER status, we aimed to assess the statistical interaction between AGR2 and FOXA1 on breast cancer prognosis and examine the prognostic role of the combination of them by ER status. METHODS: AGR2 and FOXA1 expression in tumor tissues were evaluated with tissue microarrays by immunohistochemistry in 915 breast cancer patients with follow up data. The expression levels of these two markers were treated as binary variables, and many different cutoff values were tried for each marker. Survival and Cox proportional hazard analyses were used to evaluate the relationship between AGR2, FOXA1 and prognosis, and the statistical interaction between them on the prognosis was assessed on multiplicative scale. RESULTS: Statistical interaction between AGR2 and FOXA1 on the PFS was significant with all the cutoff points in ER-positive breast cancer patients but not ER-negative ones. Among ER-positive patients, the poor prognostic role of the high level of FOXA1 was significant only in patients with the low level of AGR2, and vice versa. When AGR2 and FOXA1 were considered together, patients with low levels of both markers had significantly longer PFS compared with all other groups. CONCLUSIONS: There was a statistical interaction between AGR2 and FOXA1 on the prognosis of ER-positive breast cancer. The combination of AGR2 and FOXA1 was a more useful marker for the prognosis of ER-positive breast cancer patients.

RESUMO

The cure rate of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in adolescents and adults remains poor. This study aimed to establish a prognostic model for ≥14-year-old patients with ALL to guide treatment decisions. We retrospectively analyzed the data of 321 ALL patients between January 2017 and June 2020. Patients were randomly (2:1 ratio) divided into either the training or validation set. A nomogram was used to construct a prognostic model. Multivariate Cox analysis of the training set showed that age > 50 years, white blood cell count > 28.52×109/L, and MLL rearrangement were independent risk factors for overall survival (OS), while platelet count >37×109/L was an independent protective factor. The nomogram was established according to these independent prognostic factors in the training set, where patients were grouped into two categories: low-risk (≤13.15) and high-risk (>13.15). The survival analysis, for either total patients or sub-group patients, showed that both OS and progression-free survival (PFS) of low-risk patients was significantly better than that of high-risk patients. Moreover, treatment analysis showed that both OS and progression-free survival (PFS) of ALL with stem cell transplantation (SCT) were significantly better than that of ALL without SCT. Further stratified analysis showed that in low-risk patients, the OS and PFS of patients with SCT were significantly better than those of patients without SCT. In contrast, in high-risk patients, compared with non-SCT patients, receiving SCT can only significantly prolong the PFS, but it does not benefit the OS. We established a simple and effective prognostic model for ≥ 14-year-old patients with ALL that can provide accurate risk stratification and determine the clinical strategy.

RESUMO

The current study evaluated the efficacy and safety of a denosumab biosimilar, QL1206 (60 mg), compared to placebo in postmenopausal Chinese women with osteoporosis and high fracture risk. At 31 study centers in China, a total of 455 postmenopausal women with osteoporosis and high fracture risk were randomly assigned to receive QL1206 (60 mg subcutaneously every 6 months) or placebo. From baseline to the 12-month follow-up, the participants who received QL1206 showed significantly increased bone mineral density (BMD) values (mean difference and 95% CI) in the lumbar spine: 4.780% (3.880%, 5.681%), total hip :3.930% (3.136%, 4.725%), femoral neck 2.733% (1.877%, 3.589%) and trochanter: 4.058% (2.791%, 5.325%) compared with the participants who received the placebo. In addition, QL1206 injection significantly decreased the serum levels of C-terminal crosslinked telopeptides of type 1 collagen (CTX): -77.352% (-87.080%, -66.844%), and N-terminal procollagen of type l collagen (P1NP): -50.867% (-57.184%, -45.217%) compared with the placebo over the period from baseline to 12 months. No new or unexpected adverse events were observed. We concluded that compared with placebo, QL1206 effectively increased the BMD of the lumbar spine, total hip, femoral neck and trochanter in postmenopausal Chinese women with osteoporosis and rapidly decreased bone turnover markers. This study demonstrated that QL1206 has beneficial effects on postmenopausal Chinese women with osteoporosis and high fracture risk.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Results of previous studies about the prognostic roles of histone H4 lysine 16 acetylation (H4K16ac) and histone H4 lysine 20 trimethylation (H4K20me3) in breast cancer were inconsistent. Cellular experiments revealed the interplays between H4K16ac and H4K20me3, but no population study explored the interaction between them on the prognosis. METHODS: H4K16ac and H4K20me3 levels in tumors were evaluated by immunohistochemistry for 958 breast cancer patients. Hazard ratios for overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were estimated using Cox regression models. Interaction was assessed on multiplicative scale. Concordance index (C-index) was calculated to verify the predictive performance. RESULTS: The prognostic roles of the low level of H4K16ac or H4K20me3 were significant only in patients with the low level of another marker and their interactions were significant. Moreover, compared with joint high levels of both them, only the combined low levels of both them was associated with a poor prognosis but not the low level of single one. The C-index of the clinicopathological model combined the joint expression of H4K16ac and H4K20me3 [0.739 for OS; 0.672 for PFS] was significantly larger than that of the single clinicopathological model [0.699 for OS, P < 0.001; 0.642 for PFS, P = 0.003] or the model combined with the single H4K16ac [0.712 for OS, P < 0.001; 0.646 for PFS, P < 0.001] or H4K20me3 [0.724 for OS, P = 0.031; 0.662 for PFS, P = 0.006]. CONCLUSIONS: There was an interaction between H4K16ac and H4K20me3 on the prognosis of breast cancer and the combination of them was a superior prognostic marker compared to the single one.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, and antiretroviral therapy are usually associated with metabolic disorders. Screening for biomarkers to evaluate the progression of metabolic disorders is important for the diagnosis and treatment of HIV infection. This study aimed to establish and validate a method to quantify serum aromatic amino acid (AAA) metabolites as biomarkers of metabolic disorders in patients with HIV. METHODS: The AAAs and metabolites were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Pearson's correlation, heatmap, and receiver operating characteristic curve analyses were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: Under optimal detection conditions, the lower limits of phenylalanine (Phe), tryptophan (Trp), kynurenine (Kyn), tyrosine, phenylacetylglutamine (PAGln), and 5-hydroxytryptamine quantification reached 0.02, 0.02, 0.01, 0.02, 0.01, and 0.002 µg/ml, respectively, and the precision of intra- and inter-day was stay below 10.30%. Serum samples were stable for at least 6 months when stored at -80°C. The inter-group differences and associations between the biomarkers exhibited a particular volatility trend in PAGln, Trp, and Kyn metabolism in HIV-infected patients with metabolic syndrome. CONCLUSIONS: The developed method can be used for rapid and sensitive quantification of the AAA metabolism profile in vivo to further appraise the process of HIV infection, evaluate intervening measures, conduct mechanistic investigations, and further study the utility of PAGln, a characteristic metabolite of AAA, as a biomarker of HIV infection coupled with metabolic syndrome.

RESUMO

Lipids droplets are organelles that store neutral lipids and are closely related to lipid accumulation. Long chain acyl-coenzyme A synthetase 3 (ACSL3) is a lipid droplet-associated protein mainly distributed in the cell membrane, endoplasmic reticulum, and intracellular lipid droplets, and its distribution depends on cell type and fatty acid supply. ACSL3 is a key regulator of fatty acid metabolism that is closely related to intracellular lipid accumulation, and plays an important role in various pathophysiological processes such as lipid droplet synthesis and lipid metabolism, cellular inflammation, and ferroptosis. This paper mainly reviews the role of ACSL3 in lipid synthesis, ferroptosis, and inflammatory response, with focus on the mechanism of its role in lipid accumulation in atherosclerosis, and provides new ideas for exploring potential therapeutic targets in atherosclerotic diseases.

RESUMO

Embedding metal species into zeolite frameworks can create framework-bond metal sites in a confined microenvironment. The metals sitting in the specific T sites of zeolites and their crystalline surroundings are both committed to the interaction with the reactant, participation in the activation, and transient state achievement during the whole catalytic process. Herein, we construct isolated Co-motifs into purely siliceous MFI zeolite frameworks (Co-MFI) and reveal the location and microenvironment of the isolated Co active center in the MFI zeolite framework particularly beneficial for propane dehydrogenation (PDH). The isolated Co-motif with the distorted tetrahedral structure ({(≡SiO)2Co(HO-Si≡)2}, two Co-O-Si bonds, and two pseudobridging hydroxyls (Co···OH-Si) is located at T1(7) and T3(9) sites of the MFI zeolite. DFT calculations and deuterium-labeling reactions verify that the isolated Co-motif together with the MFI microenvironment collectively promotes the PDH reaction by providing an exclusive microenvironment to preactivate C3H8, polarizing the oxygen in Co-O-Si bonds to accept H* ({(≡SiO)CoHδ- (Hδ+O-Si≡)3}), and a scaffold structure to stabilize the C3H7* intermediate. The Co-motif active center in Co-MFI goes through the dynamic evolutions and restoration in electronic states and coordination states in a continuous and repetitive way, which meets the requirements from the series of elementary steps in the PDH catalytic cycle and fulfills the successful catalysis like enzyme catalysis.

RESUMO

Fe-based oxides are considered as promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to their high theoretical capacities, low cost, natural abundance and environmental friendliness. However, their severe volume expansion upon cycling and poor conductivity limit their cycling stability and rate capability. To address this issue, a hybrid of Fe2O3 nanoparticles encapsulated at the endpoints of nitrogen-doped CNTs (Fe2O3@NCNTs) is designed and prepared using a metal-catalyzed graphitization-nitridization driven tip-growth process and subsequent oxidation in air. When evaluated as an anode material for LIBs, this Fe2O3@NCNT hybrid exhibits a high capacity of 1145 mA h g-1 at 100 mA g-1, excellent rate capability of 907 mA h g-1 at 5.0 A g-1 and remarkable cycling stability of 856 mA h g-1 after 800 cycles at 1 A g-1, which are much superior to those of the Fe2O3/carbon black (CB) control material. The outstanding electrochemical performance benefits from the unique nanoarchitecture of Fe2O3@NCNTs, which provides a porous conductive matrix for effective electron-ion transport, and provides space confining carbon nanocaps as well as stress buffer nanocavities for robust structural stability during the lithiation/delithiation process. The results may pave the way for the rational structural design of high-performance metal oxide-based anode materials for next-generation LIBs.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Limited risk assessment tool to stratify the risk of PICC-related thrombosis (PICC-RVT) in breast cancer patients. This study developed a model to assess the risk of PICC-RVT in breast cancer patients. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 1284 breast cancer patients receiving PICC insertion from January 1, 2015, to August 31, 2019, at a cancer specialized hospital in Hunan province, China. The entire population was divided into two groups at a ratio of 3:1 which included a derivation sample (n = 978), and a validation sample (n = 284). PICC-RVT was confirmed by ultrasonography in the presence of clinical symptoms and signs. RESULTS: PICC-RVT occurred in 40 (4.09%) of the derivation sample patients. Multivariable analysis identified 9 variables: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, prior central venous catheter placement, higher level of platelets, higher level of D-dimer, lower level of activated partial thromboplastin time, menopause, no prior breast surgery, upper extremity lymphedema, and endocrine therapy. Points were assigned to each variable according to regression coefficient. The model had an area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC) of 0.850 (95% CI 0.776 to 0.924), The Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit was 5.780 (p = 0.328). At a cutoff value of 3.5, the sensitivity and specificity were 75% and 83%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Several disease-specific factors of breast cancer (e.g., menopause, endocrine therapy, and upper extremity lymphedema) play important roles in the development of PICC-RVT. Patients at higher PICC-RVT risk could be candidates for close post-insertion monitoring and interventions to prevent PICC-RVT.

RESUMO

Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease of the gums. Periodontitis in diabetic patients can aggravate insulin resistance; however, its molecular and biological mechanism remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the effects of diabetic periodontitis on liver function and determine the mechanism by which artesunate improves liver function. Rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes were divided into five groups: normal control (NC), diabetic periodontitis (DM + PD), artesunate intervention (ART), insulin intervention (INS), and combined medication intervention (ART + INS) groups. Drug interventions were then administered to the rats in each group as follows: 50 mg/kg artesunate to the ART group, 6 U/kg insulin to the INS group, and 50 mg/kg artesunate + 6 U/kg insulin to the ART + INS group. Blood samples, liver tissues, and the maxillary alveolar bone were collected postsacrifice. ART was found to significantly ameliorate hyperglycemia, blood lipid concentrations, and liver function. The levels of inflammatory factors reduced; the effect was more pronounced in the ART + INS group. Artesunate presumably inhibits the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway and expression of downstream inflammatory factors, thereby exerting a protective effect on diabetes-related liver function. This offers a fresh approach to treat diabetes mellitus.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Wolfiporia cocos, as a kind of medicine food homologous fungus, is well-known and widely used in the world. Therefore, quality and safety have received worldwide attention, and there is a trend to identify the geographic origin of herbs with artificial intelligence technology. OBJECTIVE: This research aimed to identify the geographical traceability for different parts of W. cocos. METHODS: The exploratory analysis is executed by two multivariate statistical analysis methods. The two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2DCOS) images combined with residual convolutional neural network (ResNet) and partial least square discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) models were established to identify the different parts and regions of W. cocos. We compared and analysed 2DCOS images with different fingerprint bands including full band, 8900-6850 cm-1 , 6300-5150 cm-1 and 4450-4050 cm-1 of original spectra and the second-order derivative (SD) spectra preprocessed. RESULTS: From all results: the exploratory analysis results showed that t-distributed stochastic neighbour embedding was better than principal component analysis. The synchronous SD 2DCOS is more suitable for the identification and analysis of complex mixed systems for the small-band for Poria and Poriae cutis. Both models of PLS-DA and ResNet could successfully identify the geographical traceability of different parts based on different bands. The 10% external verification set of the ResNet model based on synchronous 2DCOS can be accurately identified. CONCLUSION: Therefore, the methods could be applied for the identification of geographical origins of this fungus, which may provide technical support for quality evaluation.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Medicinal plants are very important to human health, and ensuring their quality and rapid evaluation are the current research concerns. Deep learning has a strong ability in recognition. This study extended it to the identification of medicinal plants from the perspective of spectrum. OBJECTIVE: In order to realise the rapid identification and provide a reference for the selection of high-quality resources of medicinal plants, a combination of deep learning and two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2DCOS) was proposed. METHODS: For the first time, Fourier transform mid-infrared (FT-MIR) and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy 2DCOS images combined with residual neural network (ResNet) was used for the origin identification of Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis. In total 1593 samples were collected and 12821 2DCOS images were drawn. The climate of different origins was briefly analysed. RESULTS: The xishuangbanna, puer, lincang, honghe and wenshan are the five regions with more ecological advantages. The synchronous 2DCOS models of FT-MIR and NIR could realise origin identification with the accuracy of 100%. The synchronous images were suitable for the identification of medicinal plants with complex systems. The full band, feature band and different contour models had no big difference in distinguishing ability, so they were not the key factors affecting the discrimination results. CONCLUSION: The ResNet models established were stable, reliable, and robust, which not only solved the problem of origin identification, expanded the application field of deep learning, but also provided practical reference for the related research of other medicinal plants.
