RESUMO

The intermetallic phase control is a promising strategy to optimize the physicochemical properties of ordered intermetallic compounds and engineer their performance in various (electro)catalytic reactions. However, the intermetallic phase-dependent catalytic performance is still rarely reported because of the difficulty in synthesizing ordered intermetallics with precisely controlled phase structures at atomic level, especially having ordered mesoscopic structure/morphology. Here, we successfully reported a precise synthesis of two phase-pure mesoporous intermetallic gallium-platinum (meso-i-Ga-Pt) nanoparticles, including meso-i-Ga3 Pt5 with an orthorhombic space group and meso-i-Ga1 Pt1 with a non-symmorphic chiral cubic space group. The intermetallic phase control of ordered meso-i-Ga-Pt nanoparticles was realized by carefully tuning the induced Ga salts with different anions that optimized the free energies during the synthesis. The intermetallic phase-dependent catalytic performance of ordered meso-i-Ga-Pt was systematically evaluated for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electrocatalysis, with completely opposite catalytic performance in alkaline media. Interestingly, ordered meso-i-Ga1 Pt1 catalyst with chiral atomic arrangements disclosed unexpected high ORR activity and stability with 5.9 and 3.2 enhancement factors in mass activity compared to those of meso-i-Ga3 Pt5 and commercial Pt/C.

The development of efficient catalyst for selective oxidation of hydrocarbon to functional compounds remains a challenge. Herein, mesoporous Co3 O4 (mCo3 O4 -350) showed excellent catalytic activity for selective oxidation of aromatic-alkanes, especially for oxidation of ethylbenzene with a conversion of 42 % and selectivity of 90 % for acetophenone at 120 °C. Notably, mCo3 O4 presented a unique catalytic path of direct oxidation of aromatic-alkanes to aromatic ketones rather than the conventional stepwise oxidation to alcohols and then to ketones. Density functional theory calculations revealed that oxygen vacancies in mCo3 O4 activate around Co atoms, causing electronic state change from Co3+ (Oh) →Co2+ (Oh) . Co2+ (Oh) has great attraction to ethylbenzene, and weak interaction with O2 , which provide insufficient O2 for gradual oxidation of phenylethanol to acetophenone. Combined with high energy barrier for forming phenylethanol, the direct oxidation path from ethylbenzene to acetophenone is kinetically favorable on mCo3 O4 , sharply contrasted to non-selective oxidation of ethylbenzene on commercial Co3 O4 .

The ordered mesoporous perovskite oxides with well-defined mesostrcture and versatile metal sites are attractive, but their successful synthesis faces challenges of complicated assembly dynamics and pore collapse in crystalline calcination. Here, we propose an energy balance concept to reveal interplay relationship in assembly process and realize regulation of porous structure for mesoporous perovskite oxides. A series of ordered mesoporous perovskite oxides with unique porous structure were prepared by a modular co-assembly method. Mesoporous La2 Zr2 O7 shows 94 % conversion and 99 % selectivity for hydrogenation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)furan. Experiments reveal that rich Lewis acid sites, active Zr species, and favorable porous structure promote interaction between mesoporous La2 Zr2 O7 and HMF and reduce catalytic energy barrier. This work provides the insight into molecule co-assembly and developing multiple component ordered mesoporous materials.

It is a challenge to obtain ABO3 perovskite oxides with favorable crystal phase and well-defined porous structure via existing approaches. Here, we design an effective and versatile strategy to construct mesoporous ABO3 perovskite oxides with functionalized nanocrystal frameworks and abundant oxygen vacancy sites via a resol-assisted cationic coordinative co-assembly approach. The as-prepared oxygen vacancy-rich mesoporous LaMnO3 as heterogeneous catalyst exhibits remarkable catalytic activity and stability for hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol, including over 99 % conversion and 96 % selectivity. Combined with density functional theory calculation, the catalytic mechanism is elucidated, revealing that porous LaMnO3 nanocrystal framework is conducive to expose oxygen deficiency sites, which can facilitate the interaction between catalyst surface and catalytic substrate, leading to lower barrier in hydrogenation process.

Triazine-based materials with porous structure have recently received numerous attentions as a fascinating new class because of their superior potential for various applications. However, it is still a formidable challenge to obtain triazine-based materials with precise adjustable meso-scaled pore sizes and controllable pore structures by reported synthesis approaches. Herein, we develop a solvent polarity induced interface self-assembly strategy to construct mesoporous triazine-based carbon materials. In this method, we employ a mixed solvent system within a suitable range of polarity (0.223≤Lippert-Mataga parameter (Δf) ≤0.295) to induce valid self-assembly of skeleton precursor and surfactant. The as-prepared mesoporous triazine-based carbon materials possess uniform tunable pore sizes (8.2-14.0 nm), high surface areas and ultrahigh nitrogen content (up to 18 %). Owing to these intriguing advantages, the fabricated mesoporous triazine-based carbon materials as functionalized porous solid absorbents exhibit predominant CO2 adsorption performance and exceptional selectivity for the capture of CO2 over N2 .

PURPOSE: Researches indicate that patients with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) are prone to experiencing anxiety and depression. However, lacking of large-scale, prospective studies thoroughly examine the trajectory of these emotional states. Therefore, this study aims to investigate changes in anxiety and depression levels in PTC patients before and after operation and assess the impact of gender and menopausal states on emotional well-being. METHOD: A prospective longitudinal study enrolled 320 PTC patients who completed the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) at pre- and post-operation. Paired-sample T-tests and logistic regression analysis were used to evaluate emotional changes and identify influencing factors. RESULTS: Anxiety and depression levels significantly increased (p = 0.028, p = 0.005) postoperatively, with incidence of 13.8% for anxiety and 26.9% for depression. Multivariate regression analysis showed that gender was a factor affecting depression (p = 0.041), and menopausal state significantly influenced emotions including anxiety and depression (p = 0.004, p = 0.031). Subgroup analysis showed that female patients exhibited higher levels of adverse emotions postoperatively compared to preoperatively (p = 0.003, p < 0.001). Postoperatively, female patients were more susceptible to anxiety and depression (p = 0.011, p = 0.029), and postmenopausal women were particularly at risk for depression (p = 0.017). CONCLUSIONS: The study highlights the importance of postoperative psychological care, particularly for female and postmenopausal patients. Larger sample sizes and longer follow-up periods are needed for a comprehensive understanding of psychological changes in PTC survivors.

BACKGROUND: Little is known about death hazard and conditional survival of oncocytic cell carcinoma of the thyroid (OCC). METHODS: Patients diagnosed with OCC between 2004 to 2019 were obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate the actuarial disease-specific survival (DSS). The annual hazard rate of death was depicted employing the hazard function. Based on the life-table method, the conditional DSS was calculated. RESULTS: In terms of DSS rates, there were statistically significant differences among the different stages (P < 0.01). Annual hazard curves for mortality from OCC in the entire study participants demonstrated an overall decreasing tendency with two peaks at 3 and 10 years. In patients with distant disease, the death risk curve was the steepest and decreased quickly and evidently. Conditional DSS tended to increase over time in the entire study population. Patients with distant disease showed more significant alterations than those patients with local or regional disease. CONCLUSIONS: Prognosis improved over time in patients with OCC. The largest increase in conditional DSS was observed in patients with distant disease. Conditional survival may provide more relevant prognostic information than conventional survival estimates and allow personalized follow-up and counseling.

BACKGROUND: miRNAs play crucial roles in cancers. This study investigated the potential value of miR-875 to be a detective or/and prognostic marker and evaluate the correlation between its expression and PHH3 index levels in breast cancer. METHODS: miR-875 expression was determined in breast cancer serum and tissues by a quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. The detective value of serum miR-875 expression for breast cancer was assessed by receiver operating characteristic analysis. Then the associations of miR-875 expression with clinical characteristics of patients and overall survival were evaluated by χ2 test and Kaplan-Meier curve methods, respectively. RESULTS: The expression of miR-875 was increased in both breast cancer serum and tissues compared with respective controls. The high miR-875 expression in serum and tissues was associated with positive lymph node metastasis and advanced TNM stages. Besides, miR-875 expression in tissues was positively associated with the PHH3 index. And serum miR-875 could screen breast cancer patients from healthy individuals. Moreover, breast cancer patients with both high expression of miR-875 and PHH3 index had shorter overall survival. CONCLUSION: This study suggested that miR-875 expression may be suitable as a potential breast cancer detection and prognosis biomarker. And the miR-875 expression in tissues was positively associated with the PHH3 index, suggesting that miR-875 expression may be involved in tumor proliferation of breast cancer.

BACKGROUND AIMS: At present, increasing reports have shown that latent transforming growth factor-ß-binding protein 2 (LTBP2) was associated with the prognosis of many types of cancer. We performed rounded analysis to comprehensively analyze and evaluate the prognostic significance of LTBP2 for patients with malignant tumors. METHODS: We identified relevant studies by searching database including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science. The odds ratio with its 95% confidence interval (CI) was used to assess the correlation between LTBP2 and clinicopathologic features or overall survival of patients with cancer. Hazard ratio with its 95% CI was used to explore the prognostic risk factors. The analysis was performed and assessed using Review Manager 5.2. RESULTS: A total of 11 studies including 2322 participants were included in this systematic review. Pooled results showed that malignant tissues experienced higher incidence of high LTBP2 expression when compared with adjacent or normal tissues. Patients with high LTBP2 expression experienced significantly lower 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, and 4-year overall survival rate, with the pooled odds ratios being 0.26 (95% CI 0.13-0.53; P = .0002), 0.27 (95% CI 0.14-0.50; P < .0001), 0.26 (95% CI 0.13-0.53; P = .0002), and 0.21 (95% CI 0.06-0.73; P = .01) respectively. Univariate analysis showed high LTBP2 expression, tumor node metastasis stage, T stage, and N stage were prognostic factors of patients with tumors. Multivariate analysis indicated high LTBP2 expression was an independent prognostic factor. CONCLUSIONS: The present analysis suggested that LTBP2 may have significant association with survival of patients with cancer. High LTBP2 expression was an independent prognostic factor and indicated poor survival.

BACKGROUND: The benefit of loco-regional treatments such as hepatic arterial infusion (HAI) in terms of survival and response rate is unclear. The aim of this work is to quantitatively summarize the results of both randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and non-randomized studies of interventions (NRSIs) comparing fluoropyrimidine-HAI (F-HAI) to systemic chemotherapy (SCT) for the treatment of colorectal liver metastases (CRLMs). METHODS: We searched the Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science up to July 1, 2021. The outcome measures were tumor response rate and overall survival (OS). Both RCTs and NRSIs comparing HAI to SCT for patients with unresectable CRLMs were included. The outcome measures were tumor response rate and OS. Two reviewers assessed trial quality and extracted data independently. All statistical analyses were performed using standard statistical procedures provided in Review Manager 5.2. RESULTS: A total of 16 studies including 11 RCTs and 5 NRSIs were identified for the present meta-analysis. Nine RCTs compared F-HAI to SCT for patients with unresectable CRLMs and the pooled result indicated that patients who received F-HAI experienced more than twofold response rate than SCT, with a pooled risk ratio of 2.10 (95%CI 1.59-2.79; P < .00001). In addition, the pooled result based on RCTs showed that F-HAI had a significant benefit regarding OS, with a pooled HR of 0.83 (95% CI 0.70-0.99; P = .04). Similarly, the benefit of F-HAI in terms of OS was also observed in the results of NRSIs. CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicated that the F-HAI regimen had a greater tumor response rate and survival advantage than SCT for patients with unresectable CRLMs. Future propensity score-matched analyses with a large sample size should be conducted to support the evidence of our results based on RCTs and NRSIs.

Sepsis remains the most common cause of acute kidney injury (AKI) in critically ill patients, increasing the risk of in-hospital and long-term death. Rhizoma Coptidis (RC), a classical traditional Chinese herb, exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in various diseases including sepsis. This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of RC extracts (RCE) against sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) and explore the underlying mechanisms with metabolomics-based network pharmacology. The results showed that RCE improved renal function and histological injury and decreased reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in SA-AKI. Using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF/MS), 25 differential metabolites were identified that had a close connection with the pathological processes of SA-AKI and the effects of RCE. Afterward, a compound-metabolite-target-disease network was constructed and 17 overlapping target proteins of the components of RCE, the differential metabolites, and the disease-related genes were discovered. Among these overlapping target proteins, RCE increased the nuclear translocation of nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor-2 (Nrf2), the protein expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), the mRNA expression of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor α (PPARα) and reduced nitric oxide synthase 2 (NOS2) activity. In addition, molecular docking revealed that both berberine and quercetin could bond with NOS2 and PPARα, respectively. Therefore, RCE demonstrated protective effects for SA-AKI through the regulation of metabolism and different signaling pathways.

Sparassis crispa polysaccharides have recently attracted considerable attention due to their excellent bioactivities. However, their extraction procedure is often tedious, time-consuming, and environmentally unfriendly; it even causes damage to their structures and reduces their bioactivities, all of which hinder their further development to some extent. Therefore, the ultrasonic-assisted enzymatic extraction (UAEE) technology was optimized to extract polysaccharides from Sparassis crispa (SCP) by the response surface methodology. The yields, physicochemical properties, and antioxidant activities of SCPs obtained from UAEE and conventional hot water extraction (HWE) were evaluated. According to the optimal parameters, the yield of SCPs extracted by UAEE reached up to 14.63%, which increased by 68.54% compared with that obtained from the conventional hot water extraction (HWE) method. Additionally, the UAEE methods affected the contents of the polysaccharides, molecular weights, and the molar percentage of the constituent monosaccharides of SCPs. SEM analysis indicated that the microstructures of the two SCPs were notably different. Antioxidant assays showed that both SCPs possessed good antioxidant activities against DPPH, ABTS˙+, and hydroxyl radicals in vitro. Additionally, the SCPs extracted by UAEE attenuated the HT22 cell neurotoxicity induced by H2O2 by the means of ameliorating cell viability, reducing extracellular LDH release, and decreasing the levels of intracellular ROS. These results provide scientific basis for the further investigation of SCPs as potential neuroprotective agents.

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common type of neoplasm affecting the adult kidney. Previous studies on ccRCC have focused on microRNAs, a class of small non-coding RNAs that are important in cancer development and progression. The present study aimed to investigate the potential role of microRNA (miR)-30e-3p in ccRCC. The results revealed that overexpression of miR-30e-3p in the A498 and 786O ccRCC cell lines was able to inhibit cell invasion and migration. The expression level of Snail1, a potential target gene of miR-30e-3p, was inversely correlated with miR-30e-3p expression in ccRCC tissues and cell lines. Furthermore, Snail1 was revealed to be directly regulated by miR-30e-3p and had an important role in mediating the biological effects of miR-30e-3p in ccRCC. Restoration of Snail1 expression was able to reverse the inhibitory properties of miR-30e-3p. Therefore, the results of the current study suggest that miR-30e-3p exerts its anticancer functions through direct targeting of Snail1 in ccRCC cells, and may be a novel therapeutic agent for this form of cancer.
