RESUMO

The Olympic and Paralympic Games are a sporting event that welcomes more than ten thousand top-level athletes. These athletes require daily care before and after training and competition, but are also prone to serious injuries. The polyclinic, set up in the athletes' village, will provide a wide range of high-quality care for the various delegations. Urgent care will be provided by the hospitals of the Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Paris, which are responsible for the administration of the polyclinic.

RESUMO

The association Les Blouses roses intervenes in many hospitals in France, especially at the bedside of hospitalized children. It tries to bring them various animations, fantasy and gaiety in the dark universe of the disease. This is not always an easy task, but it is supported by the will to accompany the young patient and his family against all odds. Chantal Leroy, president of the Les Blouses roses committee in Grenoble (38) for two years, explains how it works.

RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented numerous challenges to older adults in Canada, including the ability to volunteer. The purpose of this study is to improve the understanding of the social context surrounding volunteering in Canada, by (a) determining changes in associations between human, social, and cultural capital and volunteering among older adults; and (b) examining the relationship between ethnic minority status and volunteering, using data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA), collected prior to and during the pandemic. This study utilized data from 24,306 CLSA Baseline, Follow-up 1 (FUP1), and COVID-19 Baseline Survey participants (aged 55+). Results confirm a decrease in volunteering during the early stages of the pandemic. Compared to pre-pandemic associations, volunteers during the early stages of the pandemic were more likely to be young-old, male, employed, and not involved in religious activities. Findings provide evidence of pandemic effects on volunteering among older adults in Canada.

RESUMO

An enclosed space with specific constraints, prison authorises volunteers to support seriously ill patients at the end of life. After receiving relevant training, these volunteers become members of an approved association and can enter compounds such as Fresnes penitentiary hospital in Val-de-Marne. While the missions of these volunteers have been disrupted by covid-19, solutions have been put in place to allow the connection with the prisoners to be maintained.

RESUMO

The not-for-profit issue has been debated in November 2016 in Paris; this issue is one of the four canonical pillars of ethical blood donation. It is intimately bound to benevolence though it is distinct, as not-for-profit calls for institutions while benevolence calls for individuals. It is indeed intended that voluntary blood donors do not benefit from their donation and are thus non-remunerated. Not-for-profit is essential since it refers to the public character of blood as a putative public resource aimed at being shared as a tribute of solidarity. A central question however is linked to the capacity- or not -of public sectors to ensure that blood components are universally available, with special mention to plasma derived drugs, without the contribution of the for profit, private sector.
