The Beige and Chediak-Higashi (BEACH) domain-containing, Neurobeachin-like 2 (NBEAL2) protein is a molecule with a molecular weight of 300 kDa. Inactivation of NBEAL2 by loss-of-function mutations in humans as well as deletion of the Nbeal2 gene in mice results in functional defects in cells of the innate immune system such as neutrophils, NK-cells, megakaryocytes, platelets and of mast cells (MCs). To investigate the detailed function of NBEAL2 in murine MCs we generated MCs from wild type (wt) and Nbeal2-/- mice, and deleted Nbeal2 by CRISPR/Cas9 technology in the murine mast cell line MC/9. We also predicted the structure of NBEAL2 to infer its function and to examine potential mechanisms for its association with interaction partners by using the deep learning-based method RoseTTAFold and the Pymol© software. The function of NBEAL2 was analysed by molecular and immunological techniques such as co-immunoprecipitation (co-IP) experiments, western blotting, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and flow cytometry. We identified RPS6 as an interaction partner of NBEAL2. Thereby, the NBEAL2/RPS6 complex formation is probably required to control the protein homeostasis of RPS6 in MCs. Consequently, inactivation of NBEAL2 leads to accumulation of strongly p90RSK-phosphorylated RPS6 molecules which results in the development of an abnormal MC phenotype characterised by prolonged growth factor-independent survival and in a pro-inflammatory MC-phenotype.

The analysis of spontaneous electroencephalogram (EEG) is a cornerstone in the assessment of patients with disorders of consciousness (DoC). Although preserved EEG patterns are highly suggestive of consciousness even in unresponsive patients, moderately or severely abnormal patterns are difficult to interpret. Indeed, growing evidence shows that consciousness can be present despite either large delta or reduced alpha activity in spontaneous EEG. Quantifying the complexity of EEG responses to direct cortical perturbations (perturbational complexity index [PCI]) may complement the observational approach and provide a reliable assessment of consciousness even when spontaneous EEG features are inconclusive. To seek empirical evidence of this hypothesis, we compared PCI with EEG spectral measures in the same population of minimally conscious state (MCS) patients (n = 40) hospitalized in rehabilitation facilities. We found a remarkable variability in spontaneous EEG features across MCS patients as compared with healthy controls: in particular, a pattern of predominant delta and highly reduced alpha power-more often observed in vegetative state/unresponsive wakefulness syndrome (VS/UWS) patients-was found in a non-negligible number of MCS patients. Conversely, PCI values invariably fell above an externally validated empirical cutoff for consciousness in all MCS patients, consistent with the presence of clearly discernible, albeit fleeting, behavioural signs of awareness. These results confirm that, in some MCS patients, spontaneous EEG rhythms may be inconclusive about the actual capacity for consciousness and suggest that a perturbational approach can effectively compensate for this pitfall with practical implications for the individual patient's stratification and tailored rehabilitation.

The oxidation of 5-methylcytosine (5mC) to 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), 5-formylcytosine (5fC), and 5-carboxylcytosine (5caC), known as oxi-mCs, garners significant interest in plants as potential epigenetic marks. While research in mammals has established a role in cell reprogramming, carcinogenesis, and gene regulation, their functions in plants remain unclear. In rice, 5hmC has been associated with transposable elements (TEs) and heterochromatin. This study utilizes Silene latifolia, a dioecious plant with heteromorphic sex chromosomes and a genome with a large proportion of TEs, which provides a favourable environment for the study of oxi-mCs in individual sexes. Notably, we detected surprisingly high levels of oxi-mCs in S. latifolia comparable with mammals. Nuclei showed enrichment in heterochromatic regions, except for 5hmC whose signal was homogeneously distributed. Intriguingly, the same X chromosome in females displayed overall enrichment of 5hmC and 5fC compared with its counterpart. This fact is shared with 5mC, resembling dosage compensation. Co-localization showed higher correlation between 5mC and 5fC than with 5hmC, indicating no potential relationship between 5hmC and 5fC. Additionally, the promoter of several sex-linked genes and sex-biased TEs clustered in a clear sex-dependent way. Together, these findings unveil a hypothetical role for oxi-mCs in S. latifolia sex chromosome development, warranting further exploration.

Peri-nuclear clustering (PNC) of chloroplasts has largely been described in senescent and pathogen- or ROS- stressed cells. Stromules, tubular plastid extensions are also observed under similar conditions. Coincident observations of PNC and stromules associate the two phenomena in facilitating retrograde signaling between chloroplasts and the nucleus. However, PNC incidence in non-stressed cells under normal growth and developmental conditions, when stromules are usually not observed, remains unclear. Using transgenic Arabidopsis expressing different organelle-targeted fluorescent proteins we show that PNC is a dynamic subcellular phenomenon that continues in the absence of light and is not dependent on stromule formation. PNC is facilitated by tandem plastid-ER dynamics created through membrane contact sites between the two organelles. While PNC increases upon ER-membrane expansion, some plastids may remain in the peri-nuclear region due to their localization in ER-lined nuclear indentions. Moreover, some PNC plastids may sporadically extend stromules into ER-lined nuclear grooves. Our findings strongly suggest that PNC is not an exclusive response to stress caused by pathogens, high light or exogenous-H2O2 treatment and does not require stromule formation. However, morphological and behavioural alterations in ER and concomitant changes in tandem, plastid-ER dynamics play a major role in facilitating the phenomenon.

BACKGROUND: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are well-established risk factors for self-harm and depression. However, despite their high comorbidity, there has been little focus on the impact of developmental timing and the duration of exposure to ACEs on co-occurring self-harm and depression. METHODS: Data were utilised from over 22,000 children and adolescents participating in three UK cohorts, followed up longitudinally for 14-18 years: the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC), the Millennium Cohort Study (MCS) and the Environmental Risk (E-Risk) Longitudinal Twin Study. Multinomial logistic regression models estimated associations between each ACE type and a four-category outcome: no self-harm or depression, self-harm alone, depression alone and self-harm with co-occurring depression. A structured life course modelling approach was used to examine whether the accumulation (duration) of exposure to each ACE, or a critical period (timing of ACEs) had the strongest effects on self-harm and depression in adolescence. RESULTS: The majority of ACEs were associated with co-occurring self-harm and depression, with consistent findings across cohorts. The importance of timing and duration of ACEs differed across ACEs and across cohorts. For parental mental health problems, longer duration of exposure was strongly associated with co-occurring self-harm and depression in both ALSPAC (adjusted OR: 1.18, 95% CI: 1.10-1.25) and MCS (1.18, 1.11-1.26) cohorts. For other ACEs in ALSPAC, exposure in middle childhood was most strongly associated with co-occurring self-harm and depression, and ACE occurrence in early childhood and adolescence was more important in the MCS. CONCLUSIONS: Efforts to mitigate the impact of ACEs should start in early life with continued support throughout childhood, to prevent long-term exposure to ACEs contributing to risk of self-harm and depression in adolescence.

Microcystins (MCs) significantly threaten the ecosystem and public health. Biodegradation has emerged as a promising technology for removing MCs. Many MCs-degrading bacteria have been identified, including an indigenous bacterium Sphingopyxis sp. YF1 that could degrade MC-LR and Adda completely. Herein, we gained insight into the MCs biodegradation mechanisms and evolutionary dynamics of MCs-degrading bacteria, and revealed the toxic risks of the MCs degradation products. The biochemical characteristics and genetic repertoires of strain YF1 were explored. A comparative genomic analysis was performed on strain YF1 and six other MCs-degrading bacteria to investigate their functions. The degradation products were investigated, and the toxicity of the intermediates was analyzed through rigorous theoretical calculation. Strain YF1 might be a novel species that exhibited versatile substrate utilization capabilities. Many common genes and metabolic pathways were identified, shedding light on shared functions and catabolism in the MCs-degrading bacteria. The crucial genes involved in MCs catabolism mechanisms, including mlr and paa gene clusters, were identified successfully. These functional genes might experience horizontal gene transfer events, suggesting the evolutionary dynamics of these MCs-degrading bacteria in ecology. Moreover, the degradation products for MCs and Adda were summarized, and we found most of the intermediates exhibited lower toxicity to different organisms than the parent compound. These findings systematically revealed the MCs catabolism mechanisms and evolutionary dynamics of MCs-degrading bacteria. Consequently, this research contributed to the advancement of green biodegradation technology in aquatic ecology, which might protect human health from MCs.

Refractory vasodilatory shock, or vasoplegia, is a pathophysiologic state observed in the intensive care unit and operating room in patients with a variety of primary diagnoses. Definitions of vasoplegia vary by source but are qualitatively defined clinically as a normal or high cardiac index and low systemic vascular resistance causing hypotension despite high-dose vasopressors in the setting of euvolemia. This definition can be difficult to apply to patients undergoing mechanical circulatory support (MCS). A large body of mostly retrospective literature exists on vasoplegia in the non-MCS population, but the increased use of temporary MCS justifies an examination of vasoplegia in this population. MCS, particularly extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, adds complexity to the diagnosis and management of vasoplegia due to challenges in determining cardiac output (or total blood flow), lack of clarity on appropriate dosing of noncatecholamine interventions, increased thrombosis risk, the difficulty in determining the endpoints of adequate volume resuscitation, and the unclear effects of rescue agents (methylene blue, hydroxocobalamin, and angiotensin II) on MCS device monitoring and function. Care teams must combine data from invasive and noninvasive sources to diagnose vasoplegia in this population. In this narrative review, the available literature is surveyed to provide guidance on the diagnosis and management of vasoplegia in the temporary MCS population, with a focus on noncatecholamine treatments and special considerations for patients supported by extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, transvalvular heart pumps, and other ventricular assist devices.

Mechanical circulatory support (MCS) device therapy is one of the primary treatment options for end-stage heart failure (HF), whereby a mechanical pump is integrated with the failing heart to maintain adequate tissue perfusion. The ISO 14708-5:2020 standard prescribes generic guidelines for nonclinical device evaluation and system performance testing of MCS devices using a mock circulatory loop (MCL). However, the utility of MCLs in premarket regulatory submissions of MCS devices is ambiguous, and the specific disease states that the device is intended to treat are not usually simulated. Hence, we aim to outline the potential of MCLs as a valuable regulatory science tool for characterizing MCS device systems by adequately representing target clinical-use HF conditions on the bench. Target pathophysiologic hemodynamics of HF conditions (i.e., cardiogenic shock (CS), left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy secondary to hypertension, and coronary artery disease), along with a healthy adult at rest and a healthy adult during exercise are provided as recommended test conditions. The conditions are characterized based on LV, aorta, and left atrium pressures using recommended cardiac hemodynamic indices such as systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial pressure, mean cardiac output (CO), cardiac cycle time, and systemic vascular resistance. This study is a first step toward standardizing MCLs to generate well-defined target HF conditions used to evaluate MCS devices.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To present an abridged overview of the literature and pathophysiological background of adjunct interventional left ventricular unloading strategies during veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-A ECMO). From a clinical perspective, the mechanistic complexity of such combined mechanical circulatory support often requires in-depth physiological reasoning at the bedside, which remains a cornerstone of daily practice for optimal patient-specific V-A ECMO care. RECENT FINDINGS: Recent conventional clinical trials have not convincingly shown the superiority of V-A ECMO in acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock as compared with medical therapy alone. Though, it has repeatedly been reported that the addition of interventional left ventricular unloading to V-A ECMO may improve clinical outcome. Novel approaches such as registry-based adaptive platform trials and computational physiological modeling are now introduced to inform clinicians by aiming to better account for patient-specific variation and complexity inherent to V-A ECMO and have raised a widespread interest. To provide modern high-quality V-A ECMO care, it remains essential to understand the patient's pathophysiology and the intricate interaction of an individual patient with extracorporeal circulatory support devices. Innovative clinical trial design and computational modeling approaches carry great potential towards advanced clinical decision support in ECMO and related critical care.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effects of long-term repetitive transcranial direct current stimulation on patients with DOC in the subacute phase. METHODS: In a randomized, double-blind, controlled study, 33 patients were randomly assigned to the active or sham group, and 28 patients completed the study. Patients in the active group received anodal stimulation over the DLPFC, while patients in the sham group received placebo stimulation (20 min/day, 5 days/week, for 4 weeks). The level of consciousness among patients was assessed with the Coma Recovery Scale-Revised (CRS-R) at baseline and at the end of every week from the first to the fourth week. RESULTS: The CRS-R scores of both the active and sham groups showed a consistent increasing trend over time; however, the treatment effect of the active group was better than that of the sham group. In addition, there was a statistically significant difference in the total CRS-R score between the two groups at weeks 1, 2, 3 and 4. Moreover, 10 patients (71.4%) in the active group and 3 patients (21.4%) in the sham group were regarded as responders. CONCLUSION: Long-term tDCS could improve the level of consciousness of patients with DOC in the subacute stage.

Emotional problems (anxiety, depression) are prevalent in children, adolescents and young adults with varying ages at onset. Studying developmental changes in emotional problems requires repeated assessments using the same or equivalent measures. The parent-rated Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire is commonly used to assess emotional problems in childhood and adolescence, but there is limited research about whether it captures a similar construct across these developmental periods. Our study addressed this by investigating measurement invariance in the scales' emotional problems subscale (SDQ-EP) across childhood, adolescence and early adulthood. Data from two UK population cohorts were utilised: the Millennium Cohort Study (ages 3-17 years) and the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (4-25 years). In both samples we observed weak (metric) measurement invariance by age, suggesting that the parent-rated SDQ-EP items contribute to the underlying construct of emotional problems similarly across age. This supports the validity of using the subscale to rank participants on their levels of emotional problems in childhood, adolescence and early adulthood. However strong (scalar) measurement invariance was not observed, suggesting that the same score may correspond to different levels of emotional problems across developmental periods. Comparisons of mean parent-rated SDQ-EP scores across age may therefore not be valid.

Many emerging applications, such as factory automation, electric power distribution, and intelligent transportation systems, require multicast Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications (mURLLC). Since 3GPP Release 17, 5G systems natively support multicast functionality, including multicast Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request and various feedback schemes. Although these features can be promising for mURLLC, the specifications and existing studies fall short in offering guidance on their efficient usage. This paper presents the first comprehensive system-level evaluation of mURLLC, leveraging insights from 3GPP specifications. It points out (i) how mURLLC differs from traditional multicast broadband wireless communications, and (ii) which approaches to provide mURLLC require changing the paradigm compared with the existing solutions. Finally, the paper provides recommendations on how to satisfy strict mURLLC requirements efficiently, i.e., with low channel resource consumption, which increases the capacity of 5G systems for mURLLC. Simulation results show that proper configuration of multicast mechanisms and the corresponding algorithms for mURLLC traffic can reduce resource consumption up to three times compared to the baseline solutions proposed for broadband multicast traffic, which significantly increases the system capacity.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a disturbance of neurodevelopment with a complicated pathogenesis and unidentified etiology. Many children with ASD have a history of "allergic symptoms", often in the absence of mast cell (MC)-positive tests. Activation of MCs by various stimuli may release molecules related to inflammation and neurotoxicity, contributing to the development of ASD. The aim of the present paper is to enrich the current knowledge on the relationship between MCs and ASD by discussing key molecules and immune pathways associated with MCs in the pathogenesis of autism. Cytokines, essential marker molecules for MC degranulation and therapeutic targets, are also highlighted. Understanding the relationship between ASD and the activation of MCs, as well as the involved molecules and interactions, are the main points contributing to solving the enigma. Key molecules, associated with MCs, may provide new insights to the discovery of drug targets for modeling inflammation in ASD.

In the present study, the status of water quality, environmental contamination in the lower stretch of Subarnarekha River with respect to potentially toxic elements (PTEs), its seasonal distribution, and ecotoxicological health impacts were investigated. For this purpose, a combination of indexing approaches and geospatial methods was used. The estimated water quality index (WQI) has shown that the river water falls under "moderate to very poor" category during the pre-monsoon and "moderate to poor" category in the post-monsoon season. The abundance of PTEs (Pb, Cu, Ni, Cd, Fe, and Cr) was on the higher side during the pre-monsoon in comparison with the post-monsoon season. The results of contamination index (Cd) and heavy metal evaluation index (HEI) explain that Subarnarekha River has low-to-moderate levels of contamination with PTEs in the majority of sampling sites. However, HPI indicated that the river water is moderate-to-highly contaminated with PTEs in both seasons. Principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) reveal that anthropogenic sources are prime contributors to PTEs contamination in Subarnarekha River. The potential non-cancerous health concerns for child and adults due to Cr and Pb in some sampling stations along the river stretch have been observed. The carcinogenic risk (CR) has been established for Cr, Pb, and Cd in Subarnarekha River with Cr (> 10-4) as the most unsafe element. Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) indicates a high risk of cancer hazards due to Cr (values > 1E-04) in present as well as future for both child and adults.

The skin is a dynamic organ with a complex immune network critical for maintaining balance and defending against various pathogens. Different types of cells in the skin, such as mast cells (MCs) and group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s), contribute to immune regulation and play essential roles in the early immune response to various triggers, including allergens. It is beneficial to dissect cell-to-cell interactions in the skin to elucidate the mechanisms underlying skin immunity. The current manuscript concentrates explicitly on the communication pathways between MCs and ILC2s in the skin, highlighting their ability to regulate immune responses, inflammation, and tissue repair. Furthermore, it discusses how the interactions between MCs and ILC2s play a crucial role in various skin conditions, such as autoimmune diseases, dermatological disorders, and allergic reactions. Understanding the complex interactions between MCs and ILC2s in different skin conditions is crucial to developing targeted treatments for related disorders. The discovery of shared pathways could pave the way for novel therapeutic interventions to restore immunological balance in diseased skin tissues.

Infections remain a significant concern in patients receiving mechanical circulatory support (MCS), encompassing both durable and acute devices. This consensus manuscript provides updated definitions for infections associated with durable MCS devices and new definitions for infections in acute MCS, integrating a comprehensive review of existing literature and collaborative discussions among multidisciplinary specialists. By establishing consensus definitions, we seek to enhance clinical care, facilitate consistent reporting in research studies, and ultimately improve outcomes for patients receiving MCS.

Background: Fulminant myocarditis (FM) constitutes a severe and life-threatening form of acute cardiac injury associated with cardiogenic shock. The condition is characterised by rapidly progressing myocardial inflammation, leading to significant impairment of cardiac function. Due to the acute and severe nature of the disease, affected patients require urgent medical attention to mitigate adverse outcomes. Besides symptom-oriented treatment in specialised intensive care units (ICUs), the necessity for temporary mechanical cardiac support (MCS) may arise. Numerous patients depend on these treatment methods as a bridge to recovery or heart transplantation, while, in certain situations, permanent MCS systems can also be utilised as a long-term treatment option. Methods: This review consolidates the existing evidence concerning the currently available MCS options. Notably, data on venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO), microaxial flow pump, and ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation are highlighted within the landscape of FM. Results: Indications for the use of MCS, strategies for ventricular unloading, and suggested weaning approaches are assessed and systematically reviewed. Conclusions: Besides general recommendations, emphasis is put on the differences in underlying pathomechanisms in FM. Focusing on specific aetiologies, such as lymphocytic-, giant cell-, eosinophilic-, and COVID-19-associated myocarditis, this review delineates the indications and efficacy of MCS strategies in this context.

BACKGROUND: The adverse effects of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) on physical, emotional, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) remain primarily unrecognized, especially in resource-limited settings. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to characterize the HRQoL of patients with PAH in this area and also identify the potential role of clinically relevant characteristics, including the 6-min walk distance test (6MWD), WHO-Functional Classification (WHO-FC), and mental health in the occurrence of lowering quality of life. DESIGN: This was a cross-sectional observational study. METHODS: Inpatients with PAH were chosen from a tertiary hospital located in Gansu province, China. All participants were interviewed face-by-face by using questionnaires, including items from the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), the self-rating anxiety scale, and the self-rating depression scale. Data on demographic and clinically relevant characteristics, including WHO-FC and 6MWD, were also collected by tracing medical recorders. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the association between demographic, clinically relevant characteristics data, and physical component summary (PCS) or mental component summary (MCS) in SF-36. RESULTS: Of the 152 participants, SF-36 differed significantly from Chinese norms in all eight domains, with role-physical (21.55 ± 9.87) less than one-third of the norm (88.79 ± 28.49). Multiple linear regression results showed that the factors with the greatest impact on PCS were anxiety scores (ß = -0.22, p = 0.001), followed by WHO-FC (ß = -0.16, p = 0.014) and 6MWD (ß = 0.15, p = 0.036). The factors with the greatest impact on MCS were WHO-FC (ß = -0.30, p < 0.001), followed by anxiety (ß = -0.23, p = 0.001) and depression scores (ß = -0.16, p = 0.013). CONCLUSION: HRQoL was substantially reduced among PAH patients in the resource-limited area, mainly the physiological functions. WHO-FC and anxiety scores were independently associated with both PCS and MCS in SF-36. Clinicians should make reasonable rehabilitation programs and plans for patients according to their cardiac function grade and the severity of clinical symptoms. In addition, psychological interventions should also be taken, especially for those with anxiety symptoms, so as to improve their HRQoL.

RESUMO

Despite advancements in algorithms concerning the management of cardiogenic shock, current guidelines still lack the adequate integration of mechanical circulatory support devices. In recent years, more and more devices have been developed to provide circulatory with or without respiratory support, when conservative treatment with inotropic agents and vasopressors has failed. Mechanical circulatory support can be contemplated for patients with severe, refractory, or acute-coronary-syndrome-related cardiogenic shock. Through this narrative review, we delve into the differences among the types of currently used devices by presenting their notable advantages and inconveniences. We address the technical issues emerging while choosing the best possible device, temporarily as a bridge to another treatment plan or as a destination therapy, in the optimal timing for each type of patient. We also highlight the diverse implantation and removal techniques to avoid major complications such as bleeding and limb ischemia. Ultimately, we hope to shed some light in the gaps of evidence and the importance of conducting further organized studies around the topic of mechanical circulatory support when dealing with such a high mortality rate.

AIMS: While echocardiography remains essential within haemodynamic monitoring of durable mechanical circulatory support, previous echocardiographic guidelines are missing scientific evidence for the novel HeartMate 3™ (HM3) system. Accordingly, this review aims to summarize available echocardiographic evidence including HM3. METHODS AND RESULTS: This systematic review adhered to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Searches were conducted during August 2023 across PubMed, Embase, and Google Scholar using specific echocardiographic terms combined with system identifiers. Study quality was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) for cohort studies and Critical Appraisal Instrument (PCAI) for cross-sectional studies. Nine studies met the inclusion criteria, of which eight cohort studies and one cross-sectional study. Aortic regurgitation (AR) prevalence at approximately 12 months of support exhibited heterogenicity (33.5% (Δ 33%)) in a limited number of studies (n = 3). Several studies (n = 5) demonstrated an increasing prevalence and severity of AR during HM3 support, generating moderate to high level of evidence. One AR study showed a higher cumulative incidence of death and heart failure (HF) readmission compared with those without significant AR, hazard ratio 3.42 (95% CI 1.48-8.76). A second study showed that a worsening AR group had significantly lower survival-free from HF readmission (59% vs. 89%, P = 0.023) with a hazard ratio of 5.18 (95% CI 1.07-25.0), while a third study did not reveal any differences in cardiac-related hospitalizations in the 12 months follow-up or non-cardiac-related hospitalization. Mitral regurgitation (MR) prevalence at approximately 12 months of support exhibited good consistency 15.0% (Δ 0.8%) in both included studies, which did not reveal any significant pattern of changing prevalence over time. Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) prevalence at approximately 12 months of support exhibited fair consistency 28.5% (Δ 8.3%) in a limited number of studies (n = 2); both studies showed a statistically un-confirmed trend of increased TR prevalence over time. The evidence of general prevalence of right ventricular dysfunction (RVD) was insufficient due to lack of studies. CONCLUSIONS: There are few methodologically consistent studies with focus on long-term haemodynamic effects. Aortic regurgitation still seems to be a prevalent and potentially significant finding. The available evidence concerning right heart function is limited despite clinical relevance and potential prognostic value. Potential interventricular and haemodynamic interplay are identified as a white field for future research.
