RESUMO

Youth soccer (football) is immensely popular internationally. Earlier participation, sport sub-specialization, and year-around practice have led to an increased incidence of injury from both acute trauma and repetitive overuse. The growth plates (physes) of the immature skeleton are particularly vulnerable to injury and delayed diagnosis can lead to future growth disturbance and long-term morbidity. Familiarity with the various components of the growth plate complex necessary for ensuring normal endochondral ossification is fundamental in understanding the various patterns of imaging findings following injury. This review discusses the zonal columnar arrangement of the growth plate proper and the contrasting function of the vasculature within the subjacent epiphysis and metaphysis. This is followed by an evidence-based discussion of the common patterns of injury involving the epiphyseal primary growth plate observed among youth soccer players: subcategorized into physeal fractures (direct injury) and physeal stress injuries (indirect insult to subjacent metaphysis). In this section, the role of imaging and characteristic imaging features will be discussed. While the normal physiologic and pathophysiologic mechanisms can be applied to other growth plates, such as primary growth plates underlying the apophyses and secondary growth plates surrounding the secondary ossificiation centers, which also undergo endochondral ossification, the current review is focused on injuries involving the primary growth plates underlying epiphyses.

Division of the growing long bone into individual basic parts, that is, diaphysis, metaphysis, physes and epiphyses, has become generally accepted and used. However, the origin of these terms is almost unknown. Therefore, we have analyzed the literature in order to identify their sources. The terms epiphysis and apophysis have been used since the time of Hippokrates, although with different meanings. During the time of Galen, the term apophysis was used to describe all types of bone processes, and epiphyses denoted articular ends. The term diaphysis denoting the middle cylindrical part of the long bone was used for the first time by Heister in 1717. The first to use the term metaphysis was Theodor Kocher in his books on gunshot wounds and on bone inflammation of 1895. On the basis of Kocher's study, Lexer published a radiological study of the vascular supply to bones in which he defined metaphyseal blood vessels as a separate group supplying a particular part of the long bone. The epiphyseal growth plate had no particular name from the time of its first description in 1836. During the second half of 19th century, this structure acquired different names. The term "physis" was therefore introduced in 1964 by the American radiologist Rubin in order to label the growth structure between metaphysis and epiphysis clearly. One year later, the term physis also appeared in the radiological literature, and during the following decades it spread in the orthopedic literature.

BACKGROUND: Nonossifying fibroma is common in children and adolescents, and nonossifying fibroma with genu valgum is rare in the clinic. This article evaluated the effectiveness of treatment in a case of nonossifying fibroma of the lower femur with genu valgum. CASE PRESENTATION: A 16-year-old girl complained of pain in the lower part of her right thigh for one year. She was diagnosed as non ossifying fibroma of the right femur with secondary valgus deformity of the right knee, and was treated in our hospital. We performed curettage, bone grafting and internal fixation,and corrected the valgum deformity at the same time. The patient's incision healed well, the pain was disappeared, and the mechanical axis of lower limbs was corrected. No tumor recurrence was found on X- ray examination one year after operation, and the fracture end was healed. The patient could walk normally, and she was satisfied with her limb function. CONCLUSION: Nonossifying fibroma with genu valgum is rare in the clinic. The patient was satisfied with our treatment, which achieved a good curative effect.

BACKGROUND: Allograft reconstruction following the resection of malignant bone tumors is associated with high rates of complications and failures. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and current problems of allograft reconstruction techniques to optimize treatment strategies at our center. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-eight cases (16 men and 22 women), who were diagnosed with malignant bone tumors and had undergone allograft reconstruction, were recruited. Allograft was fixed by intramedullary nail, single steel plate, double plate, and intramedullary nail combined plate in 2, 4, 17, and 15 cases, respectively. Allograft union, local recurrence, and complications were assessed with clinical and radiological tests. Tumor grade was assessed using the Enneking staging of malignant bone tumors. Functional prognosis was evaluated by the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) scoring system. RESULTS: Intercalary and osteoarticular reconstructions were performed in 32 and 6 cases, respectively. Six patients underwent reoperation related to allograft complications, four patients had local recurrence, and three patients with allograft fracture underwent allograft removal. A total of eight host-donor junctions showed nonunion, including seven cases (18.4%) in diaphysis and one case (3.1%) in metaphysis (p < 0.01). Host rejection and secondary osteoarthritis occurred in nine and two cases, respectively. No deep infection and internal fixation device fracture occurred. The overall allograft survival rate was 81.6%. Postoperative MSTS score of patients with allograft survival was 26.8 ± 2.9, indicating a significant improvement as compared to their preoperative function. CONCLUSIONS: Allograft represents an excellent choice for intercalary bone defects after malignant bone tumor resection. Robust internal fixation protection across the whole length of the allograft is an important prerequisite for the survival of the allograft, while multidimensional osteotomy, intramedullary cement reinforcement, and pedicled muscle flap transfer can effectively improve the survival rate and healing rate of the allograft.

PURPOSE: The aim of the study was to evaluate the clinical and radiological results of surgical treatment of radial neck fractures in children and adolescents by percutaneous leverage with Kirschner wire stabilization. METHODS: A retrospective clinical and radiographical evaluation was performed on a cohort of 61 patients (mean age 9.7 years; range 3 to 15) with isolated, unilateral radial neck fractures treated between 2009 and 2019. The mean duration of follow-up was 4.2 years (range 2 to 9 years). All fractures were types III and IV according to Judet's classification. RESULTS: After mean follow-up, the radiographic results according to Metaizeau were rated as excellent in 70.5% of respondents, good in 27.9%, satisfactory in 1.6%. According to Mayo Elbow Performance Score, 95.1% of respondents obtained a very good result, 3.3% good, and 1.6% satisfactory. The mean radial neck-shaft angle changed from a mean 51.5° before operation to 3.8° postoperatively (p<0.001). The mean translation was 3.1mm before surgery and 0.5mm postoperatively (p<0.001). No limb axis deviation, elbow joint instability, and infection of the implant insertion site were observed. No statistically significant differences were noted between girls and boys (p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicate that percutaneous leverage with Kirschner wire stabilization is an effective and safe method for treating isolated radial neck fractures, characterized by a low risk of iatrogenic complications.

BACKGROUND: The classic metaphyseal lesion (CML) is an injury that is highly specific for infant abuse, and the distal tibia is one of the most common sites of occurrence. A machine learning tool that identifies distal tibial CMLs on infant skeletal surveys could assist radiologists in the diagnosis of infant abuse. OBJECTIVE: To develop and evaluate a machine learning-based classification algorithm to identify distal tibial CMLs on skeletal surveys performed for suspected infant abuse. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed medical records of infants (≤1 year old) who had skeletal surveys for suspected abuse at a large tertiary children's hospital over the past 13 years to identify those at low and high risk for abuse. Normal distal tibial radiographs from the low-risk group formed the normal study cohort; radiographs with distal tibial CMLs from the high-risk group formed the abnormal study cohort. We used these two cohorts to train a machine learning algorithm to classify distal tibial radiographs as normal or abnormal. We systematically evaluated this algorithm using a fivefold cross-validation procedure and statistically analyzed the results. RESULTS: The normal study cohort consisted of 177 radiographs from 89 infants, and the abnormal study cohort consisted of 73 radiographs from 35 infants. Our machine learning algorithm showed an overall performance accuracy of 93% and Kappa of 0.84. The overall sensitivity and specificity of the model were 88% and 96%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Our developed machine learning model shows encouraging results as an automated tool to identify CMLs of the distal tibia on skeletal surveys performed for suspected infant abuse.

OBJECTIVE: This study investigates bilateral asymmetry in the humerus of modern human populations with differing activity patterns to assess the relative plasticity of different bone regions in response to environmental influences, particularly the biomechanical demands of handedness. METHODS: External breadths, cross-sectional properties, and centroid sizes were used to quantify directional and absolute asymmetry of humeral diaphyseal, distal periarticular, and articular regions in six populations with differing subsistence strategies (total n = 244). Geometric section properties were measured using computed tomography at six locations along the distal humerus, while centroid sizes of the distal articular and periarticular regions, as well as eight segments of the diaphysis, were extracted from external landmark data. Bilateral asymmetries were compared between populations and sexes. Each property was also tested for correlation with bilateral asymmetry at 40% of bone length, which has been shown to correlate with handedness. RESULTS: Asymmetry is highest in the diaphysis, but significant through all distal bone regions. Asymmetry increases in the region of the deltoid tuberosity, and progressively declines distally through the shaft and distal periarticular region. Articular asymmetry is higher than periarticular asymmetry, approaching levels seen just proximal to the olecranon fossa, and is weakly but significantly correlated with diaphyseal asymmetry. Hunter-gatherers from Indian Knoll have significantly higher levels of asymmetry than other groups and are more sexually dimorphic, particularly in cross-sectional properties of the diaphysis. CONCLUSIONS: Humeral dimensions throughout the diaphysis, including regions currently used in taxonomic assignments of fossil hominins, likely respond to in vivo use, including population and sex-specific behaviors.

BACKGROUND: Long-lasting reconstruction after extensive resection involving peri-knee metaphysis is a challenging problem in orthopedic oncology. Various reconstruction methods have been proposed, but they are characterized by a high complication rate. The purposes of this study were to (1) assess osseointegration at the bone implant interface and correlated incidence of aseptic loosening; (2) identify complications including infection, endoprosthesis fracture, periprosthetic fracture, leg length discrepancy, and wound healing problem in this case series; and (3) evaluate the short-term function of the patient who received this personalized reconstruction system. METHODS: Between September 2016 and June 2018, our center treated 15 patients with malignancies arising in the femur or tibia shaft using endoprosthesis with a 3D-printed custom-made stem. Osseointegration and aseptic loosening were assessed with digital tomosynthesis. Complications were recorded by reviewing the patients' records. The function was evaluated with the 1993 version of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS-93) score at a median of 42 (range, 34 to 54) months after reconstruction. RESULTS: One patient who experienced early aseptic loosening was managed with immobilization and bisphosphonates infusion. All implants were well osseointegrated at the final follow-up examination. There are two periprosthetic fractures intraoperatively. The wire was applied to assist fixation, and the fracture healed at the latest follow-up. Two patients experienced significant leg length discrepancies. The median MSTS-93 score was 26 (range, 23 to 30). CONCLUSIONS: A 3D-printed custom-made ultra-short stem with a porous structure provides acceptable early outcomes in patients who received peri-knee metaphyseal reconstruction. With detailed preoperative design and precise intraoperative techniques, the reasonable initial stability benefits osseointegration to osteoconductive porous titanium, and therefore ensures short- and possibly long-term durability. Personalized adaptive endoprosthesis, careful intraoperative operation, and strict follow-up management enable effective prevention and treatment of complications. The functional results in our series were acceptable thanks to reliable fixation in the bone-endoprosthesis interface and an individualized rehabilitation program. These positive results indicate this device series can be a feasible alternative for critical bone defect reconstruction. Nevertheless, longer follow-up is required to determine whether this technique is superior to other forms of fixation.

The process of fracture healing varies depending upon internal and external factors, such as the fracture site, mode of injury, and mechanical environment. This review focuses on site-specific fracture healing, particularly diaphyseal and metaphyseal healing in mouse long bones. Diaphyseal fractures heal by forming the periosteal and medullary callus, whereas metaphyseal fractures heal by forming the medullary callus. Bone healing in ovariectomized mice is accompanied by a decrease in the medullary callus formation both in the diaphysis and metaphysis. Administration of estrogen after fracture significantly recovers the decrease in diaphyseal healing but fails to recover the metaphyseal healing. Thus, the two bones show different osteogenic potentials after fracture in ovariectomized mice. This difference may be attributed to the heterogeneity of the skeletal stem cells (SSCs)/osteoblast progenitors of the two bones. The Hox genes that specify the patterning of the mammalian skeleton during embryogenesis are upregulated during the diaphyseal healing. Hox genes positively regulate the differentiation of osteoblasts from SSCs in vitro. During bone grafting, the SSCs in the donor's bone express Hox with adaptability in the heterologous bone. These novel functions of the Hox genes are discussed herein with reference to the site-specificity of fracture healing.

Chronic nonbacterial osteomyelitis (CNO) is an autoinflammatory bone disease in childhood and adolescence with a preference for the female gender. It is manifested with multiple osseous lesions, with a predilection for the metaphyseal end zones of the long bones of the lower extremities. These bone lesions usually occur multifocally, can recur and develop a different appearance depending on the bone structure affected. Patients present with a longer disease history, changing clinical symptoms and unspecific paraclinical signs. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the imaging of choice and particularly as a whole body examination can speed up the diagnosis and is an important component of follow-up controls. Differential diagnoses include numerous inflammatory, benign and malignant bone diseases. Therefore, it is essential to know the diagnosis of CNO and to take it into consideration in cases of an unclear inflammatory bone process in young patients.

Parathyroid hormone (PTH) and agents related to the manipulation of Wnt/ß-catenin signalling are two promising anabolic anti-osteoporotic therapies that have been shown to promote the healing of bone fractures. Now, it is widely accepted that cortical bone and trabecular bone are two different compartments, and should be treated as separate compartments in pathological processes, such as fracture healing. It is currently unknown whether PTH and the activation of ß-catenin signalling would demonstrate different effects on cortical bone and trabecular bone healing. In the current study, single 0.6-mm cortex holes were made in the femur metaphysis and diaphysis of mice, and then, PTH application and ß-catenin activation were used to observe the promoting effect on bone healing. The effects of ß-catenin and PTH signalling on fracture healing were observed by X-ray and CT at 3, 6, and 14 days after fracture, and the levels of ß-catenin were detected by RT-PCR assay, and the number of specific antigen-positive cells of BRDU, OCN, RUNX2 was counted by immunohistochemical staining. While ß-catenin activation and PTH were found to demonstrate similar effects on accelerating metaphyseal bone healing, activation of ß-catenin showed a more striking effect than PTH on promoting diaphyseal bone healing. These findings might be helpful for selecting proper medication to accelerate fracture healing of different bone compartments.

Intramedullary nailing was originally conceived for the stabilization of shaft fractures of long bones. Due to new nail designs and multiple interlocking possibilities, the spectrum of nailing has significantly increased. Nailing of fractures beyond the isthmus is technically challenging because fractures need to be reduced before the nailing procedure starts. Indirect techniques of reduction include the use of an extension table, a large distractor or an external fixator. Direct reduction with pointed reduction forceps, lag screws, a cerclage wire or a short plate can optimize indirect reduction. The choice of the correct entry portal is of utmost importance for an optimal operative result. The location of the entry portal is dependent on the local anatomy and the bend of the nail. The optimal entry portal at the proximal tibia is directly behind the patellar tendon and accessible with the knee in more than 90° of flexion, alternatively through a suprapatellar approach with a slightly flexed knee joint. Insertion of the nail through the suprapatellar approach is possible without stress on the reduced fracture fragments. Blocking screws create an artificial isthmus in the metaphyseal area and force the guide wire in the desired direction. Blocking screws help to avoid axial malalignment during nail insertion. Interlocking of the nail with screws coming from different directions prevents secondary dislocation.

Although transmission of rubella virus within the United States is rare, the risk for imported cases persists. We describe a rubella case in a newborn, conceived in Saudi Arabia, in Texas during 2017, highlighting the importance of active surveillance and early diagnosis of this disease.

BACKGROUND: Ollier's disease is a non-hereditary, benign bone tumor which is usually characterized by presence of multiple radiolucent lesions (enchondromas) in the metaphysis of long bones with unilateral predominance. The disease is a rare clinical entity with 1/100000 occurrence in early childhood. Patients mostly present with multiple hard swellings and deformity of the tubular bones specially hands and feet with leg discrepancy and pathologic fractures. CASE PRESENTATION: We present two cases of Ollier's disease in a 13 years old female and 8 years old boy which had no specific symptoms. The girl had multiple hard swellings and deformity in the fingers of both hands and left toes with left leg deformity and discrepancy. Her plain radiographs demonstrated multiple expansile enchondromas in the phalanges of hands, left toes and metaphyses of upper humeri as well as left leg bones. The enchondromas were also noted in the left iliac bone and anterior end of ribs. The boy had bowing deformity and shortage of left leg with multiple enchondromas in the metaphyses of left femur, left tibia and fibula as well as left iliac bone in his radiographic images. CONCLUSION: Ollier's disease is usually diagnosed by clinical signs and typical location of enchondromas across skeleton in conventional radiography. It usually does not need specific treatment. Well understanding of the clinical manifestation and radiographic features can prevent unnecessary application of other imaging modalities; while other diagnostic imaging modalities like MRI, ultrasound and scintigraphy can be used in complicated and painful conditions.

BACKGROUND: Animal models serve as an important tool to understand peri-implant infection. Most of the models use high bacterial loads (>10(4) colony forming units, CFU) to provide high infection rates. Therefore these animals evolve rather similarly, making comparison between groups and statistical analysis possible. On the other hand, to mimic clinical constellation of surgery-related infections the use of low amounts of bacteria would be more advantageous. METHODS: We developed a metaphyseal rat model of peri-implant bone infection with low amount of bacterial loads (10(2) and 10(3) CFU of Staphylococcus aureus) and investigated osseointegration of the implants coated with hydroxyapatite (HA) and low-dosed HA-silver (HA-Ag). Non-infected implants served as controls. After 6 weeks rats were sacrificed and implants evaluated for osseointegration and infection. RESULTS: Infection of implanted devices was reliably induced, independently whether 10(2) or 10(3) CFU of S. aureus were inoculated and HA or HA-Ag coated implants were used. No systemic infection was present in any of the animals at the time of sacrifice, and no animal developed acute infection requiring premature sacrifice. All CFU counts of the implant and the bone at sacrifice were significantly higher than the inoculated load (p < .05). All sterilely inserted implants showed excellent osseointegration and no infection. CONCLUSIONS: Our present study of a rat tibia model reliably induced osteomyelitis in the metaphysis with low-doses of bacteria. The addition of low-dosed Ag to the implant coating was not able to reduce the infection rates. The results demonstrate that it is possible to develop a model of implant-related osteomyelitis in rats with low amounts of bacteria to better mimic clinical constellations. No other promoters of infection besides insertion of the screw implant were used in this model.

BACKGROUND: Growth recovery lines, also known as growth arrest lines, are transverse radiodense metaphyseal bands that develop due to a temporary arrest of endochondral ossification caused by local or systemic insults. OBJECTIVE: To determine if growth recovery lines are more common in infants at high risk versus low risk for abuse. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Reports of American College of Radiology compliant skeletal surveys (1999-2013) were reviewed with clinical records. Infants at low risk for abuse had a skull fracture without significant intracranial injury, history of a fall and clinical determination of low risk (child protection team/social work assessment). Infants at high risk had significant intracranial injury, retinal hemorrhages, other skeletal injuries and clinical determination of high risk. There were 52 low-risk infants (mean: 4.7 months, range: 0.4-12 months) and 21 high-risk infants (mean: 4.2 months, range: 0.8-9.1 months). Two blinded radiologists independently evaluated the skeletal survey radiographs of the knees/lower legs for the presence of at least one growth recovery line. RESULTS: When growth recovery lines are scored as probably present or definitely present, their prevalence in the low-risk group was 38% (standard deviation [SD] = 8%; reader 1 = 17/52, reader 2 = 23/52) vs. 71% (SD = 7%; reader 1 = 16/21, reader 2 = 14/21) in the high-risk group (P < 0.001; odds ratio 4.0, 95% CI: 1.7-9.5). CONCLUSION: Growth recovery lines are encountered at a significantly higher rate in infants at high risk vs. low risk for abuse. This suggests that abused infants are prone to a temporary disturbance in endochondral ossification as a result of episodic physiological stresses.

The fifth metatarsal Jones fracture is a well-documented injury occurring at the proximal diaphyseal-metaphyseal junction. Conservative versus surgical intervention has been discussed in published studies for the management of Jones fractures. Solid intramedullary fixation relies on accurate matching of the screw diameter to the intraosseous diameter. The purpose of the present cadaveric study was to determine the average intraosseous diameter of the proximal fifth metatarsal as it relates to screw size selection for Jones fracture stabilization. Twenty fresh-frozen cadaver legs were used for examination. The fifth metatarsal was completely dissected. A transverse osteotomy was performed from laterally to medially along the midline of the metatarsal. A digital caliper was used to measure the diameter of the medullary canal of the fifth metatarsal. The measurement was taken at the narrowest portion of the medullary canal just distal to the proximal metaphysis. The mean dorsal to plantar diameter of the fifth metatarsal was 6.475 ± 1.54 (range 4 to 12) mm and the mean medial to lateral diameter was 4.6 ± 0.85 (range 3 to 6) mm. Intramedullary screw fixation has shown beneficial results in the treatment protocol of fifth metatarsal Jones fractures. Our study has demonstrated that a 4.5-mm cannulated screw is the narrowest diameter screw that can be used in the average fifth metatarsal and still obtain adequate intraosseous purchase. When selecting the appropriate screw, the surgeon must be comfortable selecting the largest screw that will achieve the maximal interface with the dense cortical bone in both the medial to lateral and dorsal to plantar plane.

BACKGROUND: The rising incidence and complexity of revision knee arthroplasty has led to an increase in the use of metaphyseal reconstruction systems. One of the most widely used systems are metaphyseal sleeves as they have demonstrated excellent long-term survival. However, there is concern about the possible difficulty of extracting a sleeve if it were necessary, as no known procedures have yet been validated. METHODS: We examined the outcomes of removing 23 well-integrated metaphyseal sleeves using the same systematized technique. RESULTS: All sleeves were extracted without any intraoperative complications. Four subjects required an osteotomy to complete the extraction, while 62% of the sample were found to have an AORI IIB defect. All cases were successfully reconstructed with a new metaphyseal fixation, implanting a new sleeve in 38% of subjects compared with cones in the remaining 62%. CONCLUSIONS: The technique described here produced successful, reproducible outcomes for the removal of integrated metaphyseal sleeves with minimal bone loss and no intraoperative complications.

Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD) is a childhood hip disorder characterized by ischemic injury to the epiphysis of the femoral head, but changes to the metaphysis have also been implicated in its pathogenesis. Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) relaxation time mapping techniques are potentially useful to detect injury in LCPD, but studies to date have focused on the epiphysis. The purpose of this study was to assess whether T2, T1ρ, adiabatic T1ρ, and adiabatic T2ρ relaxation times can detect early metaphyseal changes in an LCPD piglet model. Complete epiphyseal ischemia of one femoral head was surgically induced and confirmed using contrast-enhanced MRI in n = 10 6-week-old piglets; the contralateral side was unoperated. The bilateral hips were imaged 1 week after surgery in vivo at 3T MRI using relaxation time mapping and contrast-enhanced MRI. Relaxation times and thicknesses of the metaphyseal primary and secondary spongiosa were measured and compared between the ischemic and contralateral-control femoral heads using paired t-tests. In the ischemic femoral heads, T2 relaxation times were significantly increased in the primary spongiosa (6.7 ± 9.8 ms, p = 0.029), and T2, T1ρ, adiabatic T1ρ, and adiabatic T2ρ relaxation times were significantly decreased in the secondary spongiosa (respectively: -13.3 ± 9.3 ms, p = 0.013; -32 ± 23 ms, p < 0.001; -43 ± 41 ms, p = 0.009; and -39 ± 13 ms, p < 0.001). The secondary spongiosa thickness was also significantly decreased in the ischemic femoral heads (p < 0.001). In conclusion, T2, T1ρ, adiabatic T1ρ, and adiabatic T2ρ relaxation time mapping techniques can detect early changes in the metaphysis following ischemic injury to the epiphysis of the femoral head in a piglet model of LCPD.

One of the most frequent cartilage-capped outgrowths that develop beneath the periosteum due to cartilage ossification is osteochondroma. The second decade of life is noted as the most prevalent age of presentation. This case report looks at an uncommon osteochondroma presentation in a 20-year-old female with swelling along the right inferomedial border of the scapula. The patient presented with complaints of difficulty in daily activities and exhibited altered posture, decreased range of motion (ROM), muscle weakness, and altered shoulder function. The clinical assessment highlighted restricted shoulder and cervical ROM and muscle weakness in the trapezius, rhomboids, serratus anterior, and other surrounding muscles. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed an inferomedial bony outgrowth indicative of osteochondroma. A comprehensive physiotherapy intervention protocol for eight weeks was designed to alleviate pain, improve mobility, restore ROM, strengthen weakened muscles, correct posture, and enhance functions that were restricted. The protocol encompassed various techniques, such as muscle energy techniques (MET), proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), cold therapy, stretching, scapular mobilization, resistance exercises with TheraBand, postural correction exercises, ergonomic adjustments, scapular stabilization exercises, and 'J'-taping to aid in muscle activation and address rounded shoulder posture. Outcome measures for cervical and shoulder ROM and strength were measured to note the progression after rehabilitation. The case report emphasizes the importance of a tailored physiotherapy rehabilitation protocol in managing osteochondroma-related symptoms, showing the potential benefits of multifaceted interventions in alleviating pain, improving function, and boosting the quality of life for individuals with similar presentations.
