RESUMO
Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare fibroblastic mesenchymal neoplasm. The current classification has merged SFT and hemangiopericytoma (HPC) into the same tumor entity, while the risk stratification models have been developed to compensate for clinical prediction. Typically, slow-growing and asymptomatic, SFT can occur in various anatomical sites, most commonly in the pleura. Histologically, SFT consists of spindle to oval cells with minimal patterned growth, surrounded by stromal collagen and unique vascular patterns. Molecularly, SFT is defined by the fusion of NGFI-A-binding protein 2 (NAB2) and signal transducer and activator of transcription 6 (STAT6) genes as NAB2-STAT6. This fusion transforms NAB2 into a transcriptional activator, activating early growth response 1 (EGR1) and contributing to SFT pathogenesis and development. There are several fusion variants of NAB2-STAT6 in tumor tissues, with the most frequent ones being NAB2ex4-STAT6ex2 and NAB2ex6-STAT6ex16/ex17. Diagnostic methods play a crucial role in SFT clinical practice and basic research, including RT-PCR, next-generation sequencing (NGS), FISH, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and Western blot analysis, each with distinct capabilities and limitations. Traditional treatment strategies of SFT encompass surgical resection, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, while emerging management regimes include antiangiogenic agents, immunotherapy, RNA-targeting technologies, and potential targeted drugs. This review provides an update on SFT's clinical and molecular aspects, diagnostic methods, and potential therapies.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: Fructans are water-soluble carbohydrates that accumulate in wheat and are thought to contribute to a pool of stored carbon reserves used in grain filling and tolerance to abiotic stress. RESULTS: In this study, transgenic wheat plants were engineered to overexpress a fusion of two fructan biosynthesis pathway genes, wheat sucrose: sucrose 1-fructosyltransferase (Ta1SST) and wheat sucrose: fructan 6-fructosyltransferase (Ta6SFT), regulated by a wheat ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase small subunit (TaRbcS) gene promoter. We have shown that T4 generation transgene-homozygous single-copy events accumulated more fructan polymers in leaf, stem and grain when compared in the same tissues from transgene null lines. Under water-deficit (WD) conditions, transgenic wheat plants showed an increased accumulation of fructan polymers with a high degree of polymerisation (DP) when compared to non-transgenic plants. In wheat grain of a transgenic event, increased deposition of particular fructan polymers such as, DP4 was observed. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that the tissue-regulated expression of a gene fusion between Ta1SST and Ta6SFT resulted in modified fructan accumulation in transgenic wheat plants and was influenced by water-deficit stress conditions.

Flowering time, an important factor in plant adaptability and genetic improvement, is regulated by various genes in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum). In this study, we characterized a tomato mutant, EARLY FLOWERING (EF), that developed flowers much earlier than its parental control. EF is a dominant gain-of-function allele with a T-DNA inserted 139 bp downstream of the stop codon of FANTASTIC FOUR 1/2c (FAF1/2c). The transcript of SlFAF1/2c was at elevated levels in the EF mutant. Overexpressing SlFAF1/2c in tomato plants phenocopied the early flowering trait of the EF mutant. Knocking out SlFAF1/2c in the EF mutant reverted the early flowering phenotype of the mutant to the normal flowering time of the wild-type tomato plants. SlFAF1/2c promoted the floral transition by shortening the vegetative phase rather than by reducing the number of leaves produced before the emergence of the first inflorescence. The COP9 signalosome subunit 5B (CSN5B) was shown to interact with FAF1/2c, and knocking out CSN5B led to an early flowering phenotype in tomato. Interestingly, FAF1/2c was found to reduce the accumulation of the CSN5B protein by reducing its protein stability. These findings imply that FAF1/2c regulates flowering time in tomato by reducing the accumulation and stability of CSN5B, which influences the expression of SINGLE FLOWER TRUSS (SFT), JOINTLESS (J) and UNIFLORA (UF). Thus, a new allele of SlFAF1/2c was discovered and found to regulate flowering time in tomato.

PURPOSE: Solitary fibrous tumors (SFT) are a rare entity of in majority benign neoplasms. Nevertheless, up to 20% of cases show a malignant tendency with local infiltration or metastasis. Commonly arising in the thoracic cavity, only few cases of SFT of the mesorectal tissue have been reported in the literature. Complete surgical resection, classically by posterior approach, is the treatment of choice. The purpose of this review is to demonstrate the safety and suitability of transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) as a surgical approach for the resection of benign pararectal solid tumors. METHODS: We report the case of a 52-year-old man who was diagnosed incidentally with SFT of the distal mesorectum. Resection by TAMIS was performed. Based on this case, we describe the steps and potential benefits of this procedure and provide a comprehensive review of the literature. RESULTS: Histopathology confirms the completely resected SFT. After uneventful postoperative course and discharge on day four, follow-up was recommended by a multidisciplinary board by clinical examination and MRI, which showed a well-healed scar and no recurrence up to 3 years after resection. CONCLUSION: SFT of the mesorectum is a very rare entity. To our knowledge, this is the first report on a TAMIS resection for SFT, demonstrated as a safe approach for complete resection of benign pararectal solid tumors.

In this retrospective, multicenter study, we collected patients with solitary fibrous tumor-SFT-of the CNS followed in eight hospitals in Lombardia from 2004 to 2019, revising the diagnosis according to the WHO 2021 classification. Clinical data were analyzed at diagnosis and during follow-up. Overall, 57 patients were enrolled, of whom 52.6% female. Median age was 54, 91% had an intracranial tumor and 9% a spinal location. 49% patients had grade 1, 31.5% grade 2 and 19% grade 3 tumor. After a median follow-up of 84 months, 49% of the patients had progressed and 8.7% had died. Gross tumor resection was obtained in 70%, subtotal in 26.3%, partial in 1.7% and biopsy in 1.7%. 15.7% (n = 9) of patients developed extra-CNS metastases, mainly involving bone, lung and liver, six of these were grade 3 and 3 were grade 2 at first diagnosis. 14 patients (24.5%) underwent radiation therapy, 3 chemotherapy and one received liver transplant. The 14 radiation-treated patients included all grade 3 and 3 grade 2 with partial or subtotal resection. Only tumor grade had a prognostically significant impact on PFS at univariate analysis, while age had not. All but one case displayed nuclear expression for STAT6, the remaining case showed diffuse expression of CD34. Whereas grade 3 was confirmed as a prognostically relevant factor, partially overlapping behaviours were detected in patients usually considered at low (all grade 1 and grade 2 with gross total resection) versus moderate risk (grade 2 with biopsy or non-gross total resection).
RESUMO
Five cases of thoracic solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) with small cell features are presented mimicking a neuroendocrine neoplasm. The patients were four men and one woman aged 43 to 74 years who presented with symptoms of chest pain, cough, dyspnea or hemoptysis. Two tumors were intrapulmonary neoplasms, while three were pleural-based. Grossly, the tumors ranged in size from 4 to 6 cm and were white and solid; in two tumors necrosis was apparent. Histologically, they were characterized by a cellular proliferation composed of small cells with round nuclei and inconspicuous nucleoli. The cellular proliferation in some areas had a subtle nested pattern, while in other areas the tumor showed extensive sclerosis and small vessel proliferation. Cellular pleomorphism was not marked and the mitotic activity varied from 1 to 5 mitotic figures per 10 high power fields. Microscopically, necrosis was observed in two cases and focally present in one. Immunohistochemical stains showed tumors cells universally negative for pancytokeratin; in the two pulmonary cases, focal staining for synaptophysin, CD56, and INSM1 was observed. The unexpected lack of expression of pancytokeratin led to additional analysis revealing positive staining with CD34 and STAT6 confirming a diagnosis of SFT. Clinical follow-up showed tumor recurrence in one patient while three patients remained alive and well after a period of 12 to 20 months. The current cases highlight an unusual variant of SFT that may be confused with other small cell tumor entities, such as neuroendocrine or neuroectodermal tumors, especially when originating in the thoracic cavity.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: This research aimed to enhance the functional value of dietary fiber from broccoli leaves using supercritical fluid technology. By optimizing pressure, temperature, and time parameters through response surface methodology, the study sought to improve the bioactive properties of the fiber and develop a predictive model for its chemical composition and functional properties. RESULTS: Structural analysis indicated that modified samples had a higher concentration of oligosaccharides than control samples did, with significant increases in galacturonic acid and neutral sugars after supercritical fluid technology treatment, highlighting enhanced pectin release due to cell wall degradation. Functional properties, such as water solubility, glucose absorption capacity, and antioxidant activity, improved significantly under optimized conditions (191 bar, 40 °C, 1 h). Multivariate analysis confirmed the effectiveness of supercritical fluid technology in enhancing the dietary fiber properties, achieving a global desirability value of 0.805. CONCLUSION: These results underscore the potential of supercritical technology for valorizing broccoli leaf by-products, enhancing their health-promoting characteristics and functional applications in the food industry. © 2024 The Author(s). RESUMO
Solitary fibrous tumour is a relatively rare soft tissue fibroblastic tumour, accounting for approximately 2% of soft tissue tumours. It has been described primarily as a tumour of the pleural cavity; however, up to 70% of cases occur elsewhere, in any anatomical location, which can make diagnosis difficult. If this is the diagnosis being considered, the STAT6 antibody is currently available with high sensitivity and specificity. In this paper we describe the case of a 72-year-old female patient, followed up and treated by an outpatient endocrinologist for a multinodular euthyroid goitre for several years. Due to complete nodular remodelling of the left lobe of the thyroid gland and sonographic findings of several small nodules in the right lobe of the thyroid gland, total thyroidectomy was recommended to the patient. The operation was performed at the ENT department in Jindrichuv Hradec Hospital. Material from the operation was subsequently sent for histopathological examination. Several hyperplastic colloid nodules and a small oncocytic adenoma were detected microscopically in the right lobe of the thyroid gland. In the left lobe, an imprecisely delineated, greyish-white lesion measuring 2 x 1.8 x 1.5 cm was observed on the section. Microscopically, the tumour consisted of spindle-shaped cells in a focally hyalinised stroma. In the immunohistochemical examination, tumour cells reacted positively with the CD34 antibody, and negatively with antibodies against thyroglobulin, cytokeratins (CK AE1/AE3) and S100 protein. Further immunohistochemical examinations (Bcl2, CD99, STAT6) with positive results were supplemented upon consultation at a higher facility. Based on morphology and the results of the immunohistochemical examinations, the tumour was diagnosed as a solitary fibrous tumour of the thyroid gland. This is a relatively unusual finding in this location; according to literature, only a few dozen cases have been described.

BACKGROUND: Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are very rare spindle cell neoplasms of mesenchymal origin with largely benign course of disease. Genital SFT's can be managed providing excellent functional and psychological outcomes by timely intervention. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the largest and possibly the second only reported case of penile SFT in a 34 year male presenting with a gradually increasing perineal mass with clinically normal appearing phallus. MRI revealed a 9.8 × 3.2 cm soft tissue mass arising from left corpora cavernosae, the mass was excised en-bloc via a perineal approach under spinal anaesthesia. Histopathology revealed spindle cell tumor embedded in myxohyaline stroma along with hyalinized vascular channels demonstrating IHC positivity for CD34 and STAT6. The patient is disease free post 2 years of resection with no sexual or urinary dysfunctions. CONCLUSION: Genital SFTs, although rare, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of well-circumscribed, painless, slow growing solid masses and histopathologists must be vigilant of its malignant characteristics.

Roll eccentricity disturbance is a high-frequency periodic change signal caused by the irregular shape of the roll and roll bearing, which is difficult to identify and affects the periodic deviation of the exit thickness of the strip. To achieve rapid identification of the source and a mathematical model of roll eccentricity signals, a sparse Fourier transform (SFT) and regional DFT method for roll eccentricity signal recognition and detection was proposed. This method utilizes SFT to calculate the signal FFT more quickly based on the sparsity of the signal frequency domain. Under the premise of knowing the roll diameter, the signal frequency spectrum is identified online, the amplitude and phase are identified through regional DFT, and the eccentricity disturbance is compensated on site. The simulation results show that this method can accurately identify the source of roll disturbance, quickly update and replace the problematic rolls, and improve the online recognition efficiency by more than 3000 times. This method has good results in online detection and recognition of roll eccentricity signals, greatly improving engineering application efficiency, and ultimately achieving the goal of improving the accuracy of strip outlet thickness.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: Solitary fibrous tumour (SFT) is a unique mesenchymal neoplasm with classic features on histology and is characterised by the NAB2-STAT6 gene fusion. There are rare reports of SFTs with pancreatic involvement and only two cases in the literature reporting its features by preoperative fine needle aspiration (FNA). Herein, we characterise the cytomorphological features of four SFTs involving the pancreas by FNA to establish a preoperative diagnostic approach. METHODS: The anatomic pathology archives of two academic medical centres were searched to identify patients with a pancreatic FNA cytology specimen and a confirmed diagnosis of SFT by surgical resection. The clinical history, pathological diagnosis, cytomorphological findings, and results of immunohistochemistry (IHC) were reviewed. RESULTS: Four SFTs were identified from four patients with a median age of 59 years. The morphological features were variable but most frequently showed a bland spindled-to-epithelioid proliferation in fragments and single cells with small, oval, elongated, and hypochromatic nuclei in a haphazard arrangement with or without dense collagen. One tumour presented with a concurrent metastasis and showed a pure epithelioid component with necrosis and enlarged, hyperchromatic nuclei with conspicuous nucleoli and scattered mitoses. IHC was necessary for all diagnoses which were confirmed by surgical resection. CONCLUSIONS: SFTs with pancreatic involvement are rare, and non-specific features and tumour heterogeneity can pose a diagnostic challenge on FNA; however, IHC can be used to make a definitive diagnosis. As a result, FNA is a simple, safe, cost-effective, and accurate approach that can be used to diagnose SFT in the pancreas.

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare soft tissue sarcoma subtype which mainly affects adults in the fifth and sixth decades of life. Originally part of a spectrum of tumors called hemangiopericytomas, classification has been refined such that SFTs now represent a distinct subtype. The identification of NAB2-STAT6 fusion in virtually all SFTs has further aided to define this rare subgroup. SFTs have a spectrum of behavior from benign to malignant, with evidence suggesting risk of metastases related to age at diagnosis, extent of necrosis, mitotic rate and tumor size. The standard treatment for localized disease is surgical excision with or without radiotherapy. Retrospective and prospective evidence suggests antiangiogenic treatment is effective for unresectable disease. Further translational work is required to understand the biology driving the differential behavior and identify more effective treatments for patients with metastatic disease.

An intracranial collision tumor is a rare lesion composed of two histologically different neoplasms in the same anatomic location. Even more rare is the collision tumor of a solitary fibrous tumor/hemangiopericytoma (SFT/HPC) and meningioma. The patient was a 46-year-old woman who had a 40 × 35 × 30-mm mass in the vermis of the cerebellum. Histologically, the mass consisted of two different components. One component showed the morphology of meningioma (World Health Organization (WHO) grade I), and the other component exhibited small round cell proliferation with hypercellular density, which was revealed to be SFT/HPC (WHO grade III) based on STAT6 immunohistochemistry. STAT6 showed completely different immunohistochemistry results in these two components (nuclear-negative in meningioma and nuclear-positive in SFT/HPC). Since these two neoplasms are associated with different prognoses, they should be distinguished from each other. When meningioma and an SFT/HPC-like lesion are identified morphologically, it is important to recognize the presence of such a collision tumor composed of meningioma and SFT/HPC, and identify the SFT/HPC component by employing STAT6 immunohistochemistry.

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this cohort study were to evaluate possible long-term effects of occupational exposure to hand-arm vibration (HAV) in terms of increased tremor. The aims were to evaluate whether exposure during follow-up, baseline hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), baseline manual dexterity or current medical conditions or life-style habits might be associated with increased tremor. A further aim was to compare two different activation conditions: postural vs rest tremor. METHODS: Forty men (current age: 60.4 years) who had previously worked as manual workers in a specialized engineering and construction company enrolled in the study. Their hand functions had been examined in 1994. At the baseline examination, 27 had been diagnosed with HAVS, while 13 were not exposed. The follow-up examination in 2016-2017 comprised the CATSYS Tremor Pen® for measuring postural and rest tremor and the Grooved Pegboard Test for assessing manual dexterity. Blood samples were taken for assessing biomarkers that might have impact on tremor. RESULTS: Neither cumulative exposure to HAV during follow-up nor HAVS at baseline were associated with increased tremor. A test for manual dexterity at baseline was significantly associated with increased tremor (Tremor Intensity) at follow-up. Blood markers of current medical conditions and tobacco consumption were associated with increased tremor. Rest tremor frequency was higher than postural tremor frequency (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The main findings of this 22-year cohort study were no indications of long-term effects on tremor related to HAV exposure and previous HAVS status. However, baseline manual dexterity was significantly associated with increased tremor at follow-up. Activation conditions (e.g., hand position) are important when testing tremor.

The inflorescences and lateral branches of higher plants are generated by lateral meristems. The structure of the inflorescence has a direct effect on fruit yield in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum). We previously demonstrated that miR156a plays important roles in determining the structures of the inflorescences and lateral branches in tomato by suppressing the expression of the SQUAMOSA PROMOTER BINDING PROTEIN LIKE (SPL) transcription factor gene family. However, information on regulatory pathways associated with inflorescence morphogenesis is still lacking. In this study, we demonstrate that SPL13 is the major SPL involved in miR156a-regulated tomato inflorescence structure determination and lateral branch production. Suppressing the expression of SPL13 in tomato increases the number of inflorescences on vegetative branches and lateral branches, decreases the number of flowers and fruit, and reduces fruit size and yield. Genetic and biochemical evidence indicate that SPL13 controls inflorescence development by positively regulating the expression of the tomato inflorescence-associated gene SINGLE FLOWER TRUSS (SFT) by directly binding to its promoter region. Thus, our findings provide a major advance to our understanding of the miR156a-SlSPL-based mechanism that regulates plant architecture and yield in tomato.

Fructans play vital roles in abiotic stress tolerance in plants. In this study, we isolated the sucrose:6-fructosyltransferase gene, which is involved in the synthesis of fructans, from Leymus mollis by rapid amplification of cDNA ends. The Lm-6-SFT gene was introduced into Arabidopsis thaliana cv. Columbia by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. The transgenic plants were evaluated under salt stress conditions. The results showed that the expression of Lm-6-SFT was significantly induced by light, abscisic acid (ABA), salicylic acid (SA), and salt treatment in L. mollis plants. Overexpression of Lm-6-SFT in Arabidopsis promoted seed germination and primary root growth during the early vegetative growth stage under salt stress. We also found that the transgenic plants expressing Lm-6-SFT had increased proline and fructan levels. ß-Glucuronidase staining and promoter analysis indicated that the promoter of Lm-6-SFT was regulated by light, ABA, and salt stress. Quantitative PCR suggested that overexpression of Lm-6-SFT could improve salt tolerance by interacting with the expression of some salt stress tolerance genes. Thus, we demonstrated that the Lm-6-SFT gene is a candidate gene that potentially confers salt stress tolerance to plants. Our study will aid the elucidation of the regulatory mechanism of 6-SFT genes in herb plants.

BACKGROUND: Intracranial hemangiopericytomas (HPC) and solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) (HPC-SFT) are rare vascular tumors that resemble meningioma on imaging and predominantly affect young adults. HPC-SFT have a high rate of local recurrence with well-known propensity for extracranial metastases. This provides clinical dilemmas frequently encountered in oncology: (i) How should these patients be monitored long term? (ii) Which primary tumors are more likely to metastasize? OBJECTIVES: This systematic review aims to identify the incidence, common locations and time to presentation of extra-cranial metastases of HPC-SFT. We will assess the effect of primary tumor location, treatment, grade, patient age, gender and effect of local recurrence on rates of extra-cranial metastasis and discuss the ideal techniques by which patients with intracranial HPC-SFT should be monitored for extra-cranial metastases. METHODS: Using PRISMA guidelines the authors searched Pubmed. Search terms included hemangiopericytoma, HPC, solitary fibrous tumor/ tumour, SFT, HPC-SFT, extra-cranial metastases, metastases, recurrence, monitoring, follow-up. Studies were identified up to 1st February 2018. Reference lists of identified articles were reviewed to detect other relevant citations. Data were extracted using a standard data collection form and results organized into (i) general study/patient characteristics, (ii) location of extra-cranial metastases, (iii) methods by which metastases were detected and followed up and (iv) characteristics of primary tumors. RESULTS: Seventy-one studies were identified. Mean recorded follow up ranged from 4 to 312 months. Mean age at diagnosis was 42.0 years. The overall rate of extra-cranial metastasis was 28% (n = 251/904). The minimum time to extracranial metastases was 3 months and the maximum time was 372 months. In the 71 studies identified, where site of extra-cranial metastasis was specified, there were 347 metastases in 213 patients. The most common sites for metastases were bone (location not specified) (19.6%) followed by lung and pleura (18.4%), liver (17.6%), and vertebrae (14.1%). Extra-cranial metastatic disease is typically diagnosed following symptomatic presentation. There is little documentation of methods used to monitor patients with extra-cranial HPC-SFT and no clear surveillance paradigm observed. Higher primary tumor grade (WHO Grade III) was associated with a 1.88 (p = 0.016) increased risk of extra-cranial metastasis. Location and treatment of primary tumor, local recurrence, patient age and gender were not. CONCLUSION: Patients with intracranial HPC-SFT require periodic, long term monitoring for extra-cranial metastases. Metastases occur in any age group and can occur early and late. They vary in location and are typically diagnosed following symptomatic presentation. There is no suggested imaging modality for surveillance. Higher grade primary tumors have a greater risk of metastasis. Regular clinical review is essential with early imaging for symptoms of recurrence/metastasis with imaging modality dependent on clinical concern. Quality evidence for an imaging surveillance protocol in this heterogeneous group of patients is lacking. A multicenter study on appropriate surveillance may be of benefit.

BACKGROUND: Intracranial solitary fibrous tumor/hemangiopericytoma (SFT/HPC) often shows extracranial metastasis, and treatment options are very limited. Immune-checkpoint molecules have not been studied well in SFT/HPCs, and their role in intracranial SFT/HPCs remains unclear. METHODS: We investigated the expression of programmed cell death-1 (PD-1), programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1), and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) in 16 patients of intracranial SFT/HPC by immunohistochemistry to determine if correlation with prognosis exists. RESULTS: Median overall survival (OS) of 16 patients was 9.2 years, and median follow-up of alive patients was 9.9 years. Recurrence was observed in 13 (81.3%) patients, and extracranial metastasis were observed in 6 (37.5%). PD-L1 expression was observed in all 16 tumors, whereas PD-1 expression was observed in 2. CD3 and CD8 expressions were observed in TILs in 12 and 13 patients respectively. Although the ratio of PD-L1 positive-tumor cells was not associated with OS, progression-free survival, or metastasis-free survival (MFS), diffuse staining of PD-L1 showed a trend toward shorter time to treatment failure (TTF: time to either extracranial metastasis or death) (p = 0.072). Similarly, the intense staining of PD-L1 was associated with shorter MFS (p = 0.0084) and TTF (p = 0.033). CD3 or CD8 expression was not associated with any of the prognostic parameters. In the combined analysis of PD-L1 and CD8, diffuse PD-L1 staining coupled with no or sparse CD8 expression was significantly associated with a shorter TTF (p = 0.005) and showed a trend toward shorter MFS (p = 0.0611). CONCLUSIONS: PD-L1 is frequently expressed in intracranial SFT/HPCs, and diffuse or intense PD-L1 expression might be associated with the early occurrence of extracranial metastases.

This paper presents a sequential non-rigid reconstruction method that recovers the 3D shape and the camera pose of a deforming object from a video sequence and a previous shape model of the object. We take PTAM (Parallel Mapping and Tracking), a state-of-the-art sequential real-time SfM (Structure-from-Motion) engine, and we upgrade it to solve non-rigid reconstruction. Our method provides a good trade-off between processing time and reconstruction error without the need for specific processing hardware, such as GPUs. We improve the original PTAM matching by using descriptor-based features, as well as smoothness priors to better constrain the 3D error. This paper works with perspective projection and deals with outliers and missing data. We evaluate the tracking algorithm performance through different tests over several datasets of non-rigid deforming objects. Our method achieves state-of-the-art accuracy and can be used as a real-time method suitable for being embedded in portable devices.
RESUMO
Epidemiological studies have shown that a number of nutrients are associated with better physical performance. However, little is still known about the role of the whole diet, particularly a healthy Nordic diet, in relation to physical performance. Therefore, we examined whether a healthy Nordic diet was associated with measures of physical performance 10 years later. We studied 1072 participants from the Helsinki Birth Cohort Study. Participants' diet was assessed using a validated 128-item FFQ at the mean age of 61 years, and a priori-defined Nordic diet score (NDS) was calculated. The score included Nordic fruits and berries, vegetables, cereals, PUFA:SFA and trans-fatty acids ratio, low-fat milk, fish, red and processed meat, total fat and alcohol. At the mean age of 71 years, participants' physical performance was measured using the Senior Fitness Test (SFT), and an overall SFT score was calculated. Women in the highest fourth of the NDS had on average 5 points higher SFT score compared with those in the lowest fourth (P for trend 0·005). No such association was observed in men. Women with the highest score had 17% better result in the 6-min walk test, 16% better arm curl and 20% better chair stand results compared with those with the lowest score (all P values<0·01). In conclusion, a healthy Nordic diet was associated with better overall physical performance among women and might help decrease the risk of disability in old age.
