RESUMEN

The morphologic patterns observed in 37 cases of myocardial infarction seem to depend on two factors: 1. The time factor, making it possible to contrast the homogeneous, simple or complex forms with the unhomogeneous forms, the age of which is difficult to assess. 2. The extension factor of infarction which makes the unhomogenous patterns very complex in the cases in which necrosis exceeded 30%. In other words, it seems that in these cases, histological examination does not make it possible to date with accuracy the onset of myocardial infarction, except in very early or very late stages.

RESUMEN

The data of the macroscopical-anatomical examination of 14 cases of cardiac rupture (10 women, 4 men) complicating acute myocardial infarction were compared with those obtained at autopsy, with the same protocol, in 31 cases of myocardial infarction which resulted in death before the 30th day after the onset. Many anatomical facts separated both groups from each other (size, aspect, limits of myocardial necrosis, state of the coronary arteries). Eventual surgical conclusions might be drawn from this study.

RESUMEN

During a week, adult Swiss mice inoculated with LCM virus were exposed to hyperbaric environment (51 ATA) in He-O2 mixture. This exposure delayed the mortality by virus infection for 5-6 days and/or lowered or abolished the specific cerebral pathology. However, at the moment of death, the infectious titer of virus in the brain of exposed mice was not significantly decreased. Some physico-chemical factors involved in hyperbaric environment were investigated in order to determine their possible role in inducing the delayed mortality. Temperature has no effect on the course of experimental LCM in the mouse while He-O2 mixture at atmospheric pressure aggravate the viral disease. Pure O2 applied at 2 ATA intermittently has some beneficial effect but only on specific cerebral alterations. Thus, it seems likely that "per se" hydrostatic pressure and/or an hyperabaric helium specific effect is responsible for the delay of mortality after hyperbaric exposure. Possible mechanisms leading to this delay, i.e. a transient abolition of immunologic response of mice to LCM virus, are briefly discussed.

RESUMEN

A case of giant-cell femoral arteritis seen in patient with polymyalgia rheumatica is reported. Diagnosis was ascertained by demonstrative arteriographic images and unequivocal features upon histologic examination of in situ samples. With reference to this report and to a review of the medical literature, nosologic problems in giant-cell arteries of large arteries are discussed, clinical features are reviewed and diagnostic criteria are assessed.

RESUMEN

The injection in rabbits of vaccinal antigens combined with immunity adjuvants (in particular calcium phosphate) causes a local lesion in which it is possible to recognize histologically, after a transitory afflux of polymorphonuclear leukocytes, a central area of adjuvant deposit, a middle area of histiocytes and monocytes, and a peripheral immunogenic area of lymphocytes and plasmocytes. These two cellular zones are rich in highly fluorescent cells in the presence of an antiglobulin serum with an embedding technique which respects to the upmost the structures and immunoreactivity of the cells. These histological features are not completely observed on the separate injection of antigen or adjuvant. They must be interpreted, after a fleeting non-specific reaction, while taking into account the still poorly understood method of action of the inorganic adjuvant and spread of the antigen in the organism.

RESUMEN

A 77-year-old man was diagnosed as having Waldenström's macroglobulinemia sex years after developing a sensory-motor neuropathy of the four limbs. The amyloid nature of the neuropathy was confirmed after biopsy of a peripheral nerve. The pathogenesis of the amyloidosis occurring during the course of dysglobulinemias is discussed, and those dysglobulinemias associated with non-amyloid neuropathies briefly described.

RESUMEN

The search for alpha-amylase resistant, P.A.S. positive cytoplasm has been carried out in 206 giant cell lesions with or without specific inflammatory features and with neogenetic and degenerative plasmodia. It allowed to distinguish: --P.A.S. positivity in inflammatory cells of any nature, however with quantitative variations linked to etiologic factors (pathogen agent and disposition), to site, to the age of the plasmodia, and particularly, with negativation of the reaction in ancient lesions;--negativity of the neogenetic and degenerative plasmodia, save the giant cell articular lesions. Cells containing glycogen particularly (muscular tumors, renal or placental) are easily identified thanks to enzymatic digestion tests. Variations observed in the inflammatory cells seem to be the reflect of an active metabolism bringing about resorption phenomena but probably also immunization processes acting at the level of the cellular microenvironment.

RESUMEN

A whale (Globicephalus melas), stranded on the north coast of Finistere, was the origin of a minor epidemic of Baker-Rosenbach erysipeloid. The clinical picture was that usually seen after contamination by marine animals (spiny fish, crabs, molluscs). To our knowledge, this is the first time that a marine mammal has been found to be infected by Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae.
