The aim of this study is to analyse the diagnostic value of bone marrow aspiration (BMA) in a retrospective cohort of patients with suspected immune thrombocytopaenia (ITP). We further measure changes in the percentage of patients who underwent this study and whether testing or not was in accordance with current guidelines at the time of diagnosis. We conducted a chart review of 243 patients with ITP who underwent follow-up in our institution between 1995 and 2022. The patients were divided into historical cohorts based on the practice guidelines of the Spanish Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology (SEHOP) and the American Society of Hematology (ASH) in place at the time of follow-up. For each case, time of disease presentation or initial diagnosis was defined as that which occurred in the first 72 h following disease onset. Based on data from the historical cohorts studied, we observed a lower total number of BMAs at diagnosis over time (p < 0.005). A gradual reduction was seen in the number of BMAs with the introduction of guidelines, including a progressively lower number of BMAs performed without indication (p < 0.05). Subsequent to the initial diagnosis, the procedure played a decisive role in only 2 patients (0.58%), allowing for a diagnosis of acquired aplastic anaemia in both cases. In both of them on diagnosis, BMA did not appear to be indicated, although subsequent analysis after 72 h raised suspicion of bone marrow failure. CONCLUSION: BMA at presentation did not significantly alter the diagnosis in our cohort of patients with an initial suspicion of ITP, although the procedure was decisive in diagnosing 2 cases of acquired aplastic anaemia during the subsequent course of the disease. Regarding the number of aspirations performed, our findings show that increased physician compliance with current guidelines reduced the rate of unnecessary BMAs. WHAT IS KNOWN: • BMA is a supplementary test for the diagnosis of ITP. • The usefulness of this invasive diagnostic procedure is not clearly stated in current guidelines. WHAT IS NEW: • Adjustments to scientific guidelines have led to a reduction in the number of BMAs performed on our patients with suspected ITP in the last 27 years. • While the risks and benefits of BMA at the time of diagnosis are unclear in patients with suspected ITP, the procedure does not contribute significant information to support the diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Insulin resistance (IR) is considered the main driver of obesity related metabolic complications, and is related to oxidative stress and inflammation, which in turn promote each other. There is currently no specific definition of IR in children, rather, that for adult population is used by pediatric endocrinologists instead. Altered insulin secretion dynamics are associated with worse metabolic profiles and type 2 diabetes mellitus development, thus we aimed to test whether insulin response relates to oxidative stress and inflammation in children. METHODS: We conducted a case-control study, including 132 children classified as follows: 33 children without obesity (Lean); 42 with obesity but no IR according to the American Diabetes Association criteria for adults (OBIR-); 25 with obesity and IR and an early insulin response to an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) (EP-OBIR +); 32 with obesity, IR, and a late insulin peak (LP-OBIR +); and studied variables associated with lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, oxidative stress, inflammation and inflammasome activation. RESULTS: The measured parameters of children with obesity, IR, and an early insulin response were similar to those of children with obesity but without IR. It was late responders who presented an impaired antioxidant system and elevated oxidative damage in erythrocytes and plasma, and inflammasome activation at their white blood cells, despite lower classical inflammation markers. Increased uric acid levels seems to be one of the underlying mechanisms for inflammasome activation. CONCLUSIONS: It is insulin response to an OGTT that identifies children with obesity suffering oxidative stress and inflammasome activation more specifically. Uric acid could be mediating this pathological inflammatory response by activating NLRP3 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells.

Pickering emulsions (PEs) differ from conventional emulsions in the use of solid colloidal particles as stabilizing agents instead of traditional amphiphilic molecules. Nanostructured biopolymers (NBs) emerge as a promising alternative for PE stabilization owing to their remarkable biocompatibility, abundant availability, and low cost. To explore this potential, a study is herein presented, in which cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), both type I and type II allomorphs, and chitin nanocrystals (ChNCs) were used for stabilizing oil-in-water PEs prepared by the use of ultrasound. Sunflower oil was selected as the oil phase as it offers the advantages of being edible, renewable, and inexpensive. By utilizing ζ-potential, static light diffraction, and visual observations, we determined the optimal oil/water ratio for each type of NB to obtain stable emulsions after 14 days. The optimized PEs were used to form bacterial nanocellulose composites through emulsion templating. To our knowledge, this study represents a pioneering work in exploiting oil-in-water PEs for this approach. Additionally, it entails the first utilization of nonmercerized type II CNCs as stabilizers for PEs, while also establishing a direct comparison among the most relevant NBs. The resulting composites exhibited a unique morphology, composed of larger pores compared to standard bacterial nanocellulose aerogels. These findings highlight the notable potential of NBs as stabilizers for PEs and their ability to generate green nanocomposites with tailored properties.

Gaming disorder (GD) was recently included in the 11th edition of the International Classification of Diseases. A cross-sectional study was conducted in five secondary schools, with a final sample of 119 students. A diagnosis of GD was made in 6.4% (n = 23) of this sample. Compared with healthy subjects, adolescents with GD showed low levels of conscientiousness (F = 7.82; p = .001) and agreeableness (F = 3.31; p = .041) and scored higher in school maladjustment (SMC; F = 9.23; p < .001). Two discriminating functions were obtained that allowed us to predict patient group allocation with a success rate of 60.5% (Z1 = 0.406 × Sex + 0.560 × Conscientiousness - 0.677 × SMC; Z2 = 0.915 × Sex + 0.191 × Conscientiousness + 0.326 × SMC). Subjects with addiction differed from healthy subjects in presenting school maladjustment and low consciousness, while both groups of subjects with addiction differed in that video game addiction was proportionally higher in boys. The probability of GD was higher if subjects were male (OR [95% CI]) = 4.82 [1.17-19.81]; p = .029) and had school maladjustment (OR [95% CI] = 1.08 [1-1.17]; p = .047); while that of substance use disorder was higher if the subjects had neuroticism (OR [95% CI] = 1.07 [1-1.14]; p < .040), clinical maladjustment (OR [95% CI] = 1.10 [1.01- 1.20]; p = .020), school maladjustment (OR [95% CI] = 1.06 [1-1.13]; p = .048), low personal adjustment (OR [95% CI] = 0.94 [0.88-0.99]; p = .047) and emotional symptoms (OR [95% CI] = 0.86 [0.78-0.96]; p = .006).


El trastorno por uso de videojuegos se incluyó recientemente en la 11ª edición de la Clasificación Internacional de Enfermedades. Se realizó un estudio transversal en cinco institutos, con una muestra final de 119 alumnos. El 6,4% (n = 23) de los sujetos tenía trastorno por uso de videojuegos. Los adolescentes con trastorno por uso de videojuegos mostraron bajos niveles de consciencia (F = 7,82; p = ,001) y amabilidad (F = 3,31; p = ,041); y puntuaron más alto en inadaptación escolar (SMC; F = 9,230; p < ,001) que los sanos. Obtuvimos dos funciones discriminantes que clasificaban correctamente al 60,5% (Z1 = 0,406 × Sexo + 0,560 × Conciencia - 0,677 × SMC; Z2 = 0,915 × Sexo + 0,191 × Conciencia + 0,326 × SMC). Los sujetos con adicción se diferenciaban de los sanos en presentar inadaptación escolar y baja conciencia, mientras que ambos grupos con adicción se diferenciaban en que los alumnos con adicción a videojuegos eran en mayor proporción varones. BACKGROUND: The current coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has a great impact worldwide. Healthcare workers play an essential role and are one of the most exposed groups. Information about the psychosocial impact on healthcare workers is limited. METHODS: 3109 healthcare workers completed a national, internet-based, cross-sectional 45-item survey between 9 and 19 April 2020. The objective is to assess the psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Spanish healthcare workers. A Psychological Stress and Adaptation at work Score (PSAS) was defined combining four modified versions of validated psychological assessment tests (A) Healthcare Stressful Test, (B) Coping Strategies Inventory, (C) Font-Roja Questionnaire and (D) Trait Meta-Mood Scale. RESULTS: The highest psychosocial impact was perceived in Respiratory Medicine, the mean (S.D.) PSAS was 48.3 (13.6) and Geriatrics 47.6 (16.4). Higher distress levels were found in the geographical areas with the highest incidence of COVID-19 (>245.5 cases per 100 000 people), PSAS 46.8 (15.2); p < 0.001. The least stress respondents were asymptomatic workers PSAS, 41.3 (15.4); p < 0.001, as well as those above 60 years old, PSAS, 37.6 (16); p < 0.001. Workers who needed psychological therapy and did not receive it, were more stressed PSAS 52.5 (13.6) than those who did not need it PSAS 39.7 (13.9); p < 0.001. CONCLUSIONS: The psychological impact in healthcare workers in Spain during COVID-19 emergency has been studied. The stress perceived is parallel to the number of cases per 100 000 people. Psychotherapy could have a major role to mitigate the experimented stress level.

Two cellulose nanocrystals/single-walled carbon nanotube (CNC/SW) hybrids, using two cellulose polymorphs, were evaluated as electrochemical transducers: CNC type I (CNC-I/SW) and CNC type II (CNC-II/SW). They were synthesized and fully characterized, and their analytical performance as electrochemical sensors was carefully studied. In comparison with SWCNT-based and screen-printed carbon electrodes, CNC/SW sensors showed superior electroanalytical performance in terms of sensitivity and selectivity, not only in the detection of small metabolites (uric acid, dopamine, and tyrosine) but also in the detection of complex glycoproteins (alpha-1-acid glycoprotein (AGP)). More importantly, CNC-II/SW exhibited 20 times higher sensitivity than CNC-I/SW for AGP determination, yielding a LOD of 7 mg L-1.These results demonstrate the critical role played by nanocellulose polymorphism in the electrochemical performance of CNC/SW hybrid materials, opening new directions in the electrochemical sensing of these complex molecules. In general, these high-active-surface hybrids smartly exploited the preserved non-oxidized SW conductivity with the high aqueous dispersibility of the CNC, avoiding the use of organic solvents or the incorporation of toxic surfactants during their processing, making the CNC/SW hybrids promising nanomaterials for electrochemical detection following greener approaches.

RESUMEN

Nanomaterials offer exciting properties and functionalities. However, their production and processing frequently involve complex methods, cumbersome equipment, harsh conditions, and hazardous media. The capability of organisms to accomplish this using mild conditions offers a sustainable, biocompatible, and environmentally friendly alternative. Different nanomaterials such as metal nanoparticles, quantum dots, silica nanostructures, and nanocellulose are being synthesized increasingly through living entities. In addition, the bionanofabrication potential enables also the in situ processing of nanomaterials inside biomatrices with unprecedented outcomes. In this Minireview we present a critical state-of-the-art vision of current nanofabrication approaches mediated by living entities (ranging from unicellular to higher organisms), in order to expand this knowledge and scrutinize future prospects. An efficient interfacial interaction at the nanoscale by green means is within reach through this approach.

OBJECTIVE: Describe the GETH haploidentical stem cell transplantation (haplo-HSCT) activity in non-malignant disease (NMDs). METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed data from children with NMDs who underwent haplo-HSCT. RESULTS: From January 2001 to December 2016, 26 pediatric patients underwent 31 haplo-HSCT through ex vivo T cell-depleted (TCD) graft platforms or post-transplantation cyclophosphamide (PT-Cy) at 7 Spanish centers. Five cases employed unmanipulated PT-Cy haplo-HSCT, 16 employed highly purified CD34+ cells, and 10 employed ex vivo TCD grafts manipulated either with CD3+ CD19+ depletion, TCRαß+ CD19+ selection or naive CD45RA+ T-cell depletion. Peripheral blood stem cells were the sole source for patients following TCD haplo-HSCT, and bone marrow was the source for one PT-Cy haplo-HSCT. The most common indications for transplantation were primary immunodeficiency disorders (PIDs), severe aplastic anemia, osteopetrosis, and thalassemia. The 1-year cumulative incidence of graft failure was 27.4%. The 1-year III-IV acute graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) and 1-year chronic GvHD rates were 34.6% and 16.7%, respectively. The 2-year overall survival was 44.9% for PIDs, and the 2-year graft-versus-host disease-free and relapse-free survival rate was 37.6% for the other NMDs. The transplantation-related mortality at day 100 was 30.8%. CONCLUSION: Although these results are discouraging, improvements will come if procedures are centralized in centers of expertise.

BACKGROUND: Defibrotide is approved in European Union for the treatment of severe sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS) after HSCT. However, it has also been used for SOS prophylaxis, moderate SOS and in other complications such as transplant-associated thrombotic microangiopathy (TAM). The objective of this study was to evaluate current uses, effectiveness and safety of defibrotide in patients with HSCT. METHODS: This multicenter, retrospective study included patients treated with defibrotide for any indication at 28 HSCT centers of the Grupo Español de Trasplante Hematopoyetico (GETH) including the pediatric subgroup Grupo Español de Trasplante de Medula en Niños (GETMON). RESULTS: Three hundred and eighty eight patients treated with defibrotide between January 2011 and December 2018 were included. 253 patients were children, and 135 patients were adults. In total, 332 transplants were allogeneic, and the remainder were autologous. Main indications for defibrotide use were severe/very severe SOS in 173 patients, SOS prophylaxis in 135 patients, moderate SOS in 41 patients, TAM in six patients and suspected SOS in 33 patients. Overall survival (OS) at day +100 in the SOS prophylaxis group was 89% (95% CI, 87%-91%). In the group of patients with moderate and severe/very severe SOS, the OS at day +100 was 80% (95% CI, 74%-86%) and 62% (95% CI, 59%-65%), respectively (P = .0015). With a longer follow-up, median of 2 years (4 months-7 years), OS was 63% (95% CI, 59%-67%) in the SOS prophylaxis patients. OS for patients with moderate and severe/very severe SOS groups was 53% (95% CI, 47%-61%) and 26% (95% CI, 22%-30%), respectively (P = .006). 191 patients died, and SOS was the main cause of death in 23 patients (12%). CONCLUSIONS: Defibrotide has an acceptable safety profile with an improved response in severe/very severe SOS compared with historical controls, mainly in pediatric patients. Use of defibrotide for prophylaxis may improve prognosis of patients at high risk of complications due to endothelial damage such as those who receive a second transplant. SOS has an important impact on the HSCT long-term survival, as can be concluded from our study.

OBJECTIVE: Prepulse inhibition regulates sensorimotor gating and is a marker of vulnerability to certain disorders. We compared prepulse inhibition, psychopathy, and sensitivity to punishment and reward in patients with cocaine-related disorder without psychiatric comorbidities and a control group. METHODS: This was an observational study of a sample of 22 male cases with cocaine-related disorder and 22 healthy male controls. We used the Psychiatric Research Interview for Substance and Mental Disorders and Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview; the Sensitivity to Punishment and Sensitivity to Reward Questionnaire; and the Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy Scale and Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised. Prepulse inhibition was evaluated at 30, 60, and 120 ms. RESULTS: Cocaine-related disorder group had a higher overall score (t = 12.556, p = .001) and primary psychopathy score (t = 3.750, p = .001) on Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy Scale, a higher score on both Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised factors, sensitivity to rewards (t = 3.076, p = .005) and prepulse inhibition at 30 ms (t = 2.859, p = .008). CONCLUSIONS: Cocaine use in patients without psychiatric comorbidities seems to increase sensorimotor gating. Therefore, these patients likely have an increased sensitivity to rewards, causing them to focus more on cocaine-boosting stimuli, thus explaining the psychopathic traits of these individuals.

Given the closure of schools due to the global confinement resulting from the COVID-19 crisis, family-school cooperation has become a priority in most educational stages, but especially in Early Childhood Education and Care. This research analysed how parents dealt with this new situation, as well as the way in which family-school cooperation was established. Two online questionnaires were developed by the researchers. Respondents included 1266 families with children between the ages of infancy and six years, as well as 1235 early childhood education teachers from all regions of Spain. Results show that family-school cooperation is associated with several family and school characteristics and that families have neither the tools to face this new situation, nor the time to educate their children at home. This, together with the fact that some households do not have Internet access, makes family-school cooperation a challenging matter, especially in times of pandemic.

The preparation of an MoS2 -polymer carbon nanodot (MoS2 -PCND) hybrid material was accomplished by employing an easy and fast bottom-up synthetic approach. Specifically, MoS2 -PCND was realized by the thermal decomposition of ammonium tetrathiomolybdate and the in situ complexation of Mo with carboxylic acid units present on the surface of PCNDs. The newly prepared hybrid material was comprehensively characterized by spectroscopy, thermal means, and electron microscopy. The electrocatalytic activity of MoS2 -PCND was examined in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and compared with that of the corresponding hybrid material prepared by a top-down approach, namely MoS2 -PCND(exf-fun), in which MoS2 was firstly exfoliated and then covalently functionalized with PCNDs. The MoS2 -PCND hybrid material showed superior electrocatalytic activity toward the HER with low Tafel slope, excellent electrocatalytic stability, and an onset potential of -0.16 V versus RHE. The superior catalytic performance of MoS2 -PCND was rationalized by considering the catalytically active sites of MoS2 , the effective charge/energy-transfer phenomena from PCNDs to MoS2 , and the synergetic effect between MoS2 and PCNDs in the hybrid material.

A total of 192 pediatric patients, median age 8.6 years, with high-risk hematological malignancies, underwent haploidentical stem cell transplantation (haplo-HSCT) using post-transplantation cyclophosphamide (PT-Cy), or ex vivo T cell-depleted (TCD) graft platforms, from January 1999 to December 2016 in 10 centers in Spain. Some 41 patients received an unmanipulated graft followed by PT-Cy for graft-vs-host disease (GvHD) prophylaxis. A total of 151 patients were transplanted with CD3-depleted peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) by either CD34+ selection, CD3+ CD19+ depletion, TCRαß+ CD19+ depletion or CD45RA+ depletion, added to CD34+ selection for GvHD prophylaxis. The PBSCs were the only source in patients following ex vivo TCD haplo-HSCT; bone marrow was the source in 9 of 41 patients following PT-CY haplo-HSCT. Engraftment was achieved in 91.3% of cases. A donor younger than 30 years, and the development of chronic GvHD were positive factors influencing survival, whereas positive minimal residual disease (MRD) before transplant and lymphoid disease were negative factors. The probability of relapse increased with lymphoid malignancies, a donor killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) haplotype A and positive MRD pretransplant. No difference was found in overall survival, disease-free survival or relapse incidence between the two platforms. Relapse is still of concern in both platforms, and it should be the focus of future efforts. In conclusion, both platforms for haplo-HSCT were effective and could be utilized depending on the comfort level of the center.

Nanocellulose is increasingly being investigated as a paradigm of a sustainable nanomaterial because of its extraordinary physical and chemical properties, together with its renewable nature and worldwide abundance. The rich structural diversity of cellulose materials is represented by different crystalline allomorphs, from which types I and II stand out. While type I is naturally and ubiquitously present, type II is man-made and requires harsh and caustic synthesis conditions such as the so-called mercerization process. Here, we provide an optimal scenario to obtain either type-I or II nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) by a mercerization-free method consisting only of the acid hydrolysis commonly used to produce nanocellulose from microcellulose. The possibility of having nonmercerized type-II NCC acquires a great relevance since this nanostructure shows particularly appealing properties. Moreover, an entangled and wrapped system arises when used as a dispersing agent for single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), significantly different from that of type I. The biological testing of each NCC type and their respective SWCNT-NCC dispersions in human intestinal (Caco-2) cells reveals a general innocuous behavior in both cancer and normal stages of differentiation; however, the type-II-based SWCNT-NCC dispersions display cytotoxicity for cancer cells while enhancing mitochondrial metabolism of normal cells.

The effect of doping on the electronic properties in bulk single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) samples is studied for the first time using a new in situ Raman spectroelectrochemical method, and further verified by DFT calculations and photoresponse. We use p-/n-doped SWCNTs prepared by diazonium reactions as a versatile chemical strategy to control the SWCNT behavior. The measured and calculated data testify an acceptor effect of 4-aminobenzenesulfonic acid (p-doping), and a donor effect (n-doping) in the case of benzyl alcohol. In addition, pristine and covalently functionalized SWCNTs were used for the preparation of photoactive film electrodes. The photocathodic current in the photoelectrochemical cell is consistently modulated by the doping group. These results validate the in situ Raman spectroelectrochemistry as a unique tool box for predicting the electronic properties of functionalized SWCNTs in the form of thin films and their operational functionality in thin film devices for future optoelectronic applications.

Objective: Schizophrenia, cocaine-related disorder, antisocial personality disorder, and psychopathy share biological bases, but few studies discriminate between these disorders by means of prepulse inhibition. This work studies the phenotype of patients with cocaine-related disorders who are vulnerable to presenting a dual diagnosis of schizophrenia or antisocial personality disorder, by evaluating their prepulse inhibition, impulsivity and psychopathy personality traits. Methods: The sample (n = 38) was divided into three groups: (1) cocaine-related disorder (8 individuals diagnosed with cocaine-related disorder who did not present any other mental disorder), (2) cocaine-related disorder and schizophrenia (n = 14), and (3) cocaine-related disorder and antisocial personality disorder (n = 16). Results: The prepulse inhibition in the two groups with dual diagnosis was lower than that in the cocaine-related disorder group, F(2, 35) = 6.52, p = .004, while there was no significant differences between the two dual-diagnosis groups. Psychopathy was evaluated with the revised Hare Psychopathy Checklist and showed no correlation with the prepulse inhibition. Secondary psychopathy (impulsivity and poor behavior control), as evaluated with Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy Scale, was related to the prepulse inhibition. Two discriminating functions were obtained that allowed prediction of patient inclusion in the groups using the prepulse inhibition and the revised Hare Psychopathy Checklist with a success rate of 81.6% (cocaine-related disorder = 62.5%; cocaine-related disorder and schizophrenia = 78.6%; cocaine-related disorder and antisocial personality disorder = 93.8%). These results are discussed in regard to the neurobiological implications of prepulse inhibition in dual diagnosis. Conclusions: The results suggest that the prepulse inhibition is a promising dual-diagnosis vulnerability marker in individuals with cocaine addiction, because prepulse inhibition deficits are related both to schizophrenia and antisocial personality disorder. In addition, prepulse inhibition, which is considered a good endophenotype for studies on the genetic and neurobiological basis of cocaine-related disorder and schizophrenia, could be used in the same way in studies on antisocial personality disorder.

Parenting is linked to conduct disorders (CD) and substance related disorders (SRD) in adolescents, but with differences according to cultural context. A questionnaire with two versions (parenting questionnaire TXP-A for adolescents and TXP-C  for primary caregivers) was designed using the Delphi method to evaluate parenting practices related to CD and SRD in a Spanish population. It was validated in a community sample of 631 adolescents aged between 14 and 16 and their caregivers. Results suggest a 29-item TXP-A questionnaire with bifactorial structure: affection-communication and control-structure, with high internal (Cronbach’s alpha=0.89) and test-retest (intraclass correlation coefficient=0.94) reliabilities. Both factors are related to SRD (r=0.273, p<0.001) and with most of the psychopathological dimensions studied. The total score and affection-communication are related to dissocial disorder (t=3.259, p=0.001) and its severity (r=-0,119; p=0.003). Inter-observer reliability between adolescents and caregivers is low, in part because the 16-item TXP-C has a different bifactorial structure: affection-communication and prosocial values. TXP-C’s internal (Cronbach’s alpha=0.87) and test-retest (intraclass correlation coefficient=0.94) reliabilities are high. The total score and affection-communication were related to dissocial disorder (t=2.586; p=0.010) but TXP-C did not discriminate according to SRD. In conclusion, the TXP-A questionnaire for adolescents seems to be a reliable, valid and unbiased instrument that evaluates the perception of parenting practices, relating higher affection-communication and control-structure to less psychopathology and alcohol and drug use. TXP-C also seems to be reliable and unbiased, but shows less evidence of validity regarding substance use and psychopathology. .


El estilo parental de socialización se relaciona con trastornos de conducta (TC) y trastornos relacionados con sustancias (TRS) en adolescentes, con diferencias según el contexto cultural. Se diseñó mediante método Delphi un cuestionario con dos versiones (Cuestionario de socialización parental TXP-A para adolescentes y TXP-C para cuidador principal) para evaluar en población española las prácticas de socialización parental relacionadas con TC y TRS. Se validó en una muestra comunitaria de 631 adolescentes entre 14 y 16 años y sus cuidadores. Los resultados recomiendan un cuestionario TXP-A de 29 ítems y estructura bifactorial: afecto-comunicación y control-estructura, mostrando alta fiabilidad interna (alfa de Cronbach=0,89) y test-retest (coeficiente de correlación intraclase=0,94). The emission of a bright blue fluorescence is a unique feature common to the vast variety of polymer carbon dots (CDs) prepared from carboxylic acid and amine precursors. However, the difficulty to assign a precise chemical structure to this class of CDs yet hampers the comprehension of their underlying luminescence principle. In this work, we show that highly blue fluorescent model types of CDs can be prepared from citric acid and ethylenediamine through low temperature synthesis routes. Facilitating controlled polycondensation processes, the CDs reveal sizes of 1-1.5 nm formed by a compact network of short polyamide chains of about 10 monomer units. Density functional theory calculations of these model CDs uncover the existence of a spatially separated highest occupied molecular orbital and a lowest unoccupied molecular orbital located at the amide and carboxylic groups, respectively. Photoinduced charge transfer between these groups thus constitutes the origin of the strong blue fluorescence emission. Hydrogen-bond-mediated supramolecular interactions between the polyamide chains enabling a rigid network structure further contribute to the enhancement of the radiative process. Moreover, the photoinduced charge transfer processes in the polyamide network structure easily explain the performance of CDs in applications as revealed in studies on metal ion sensing. These findings thus are of general importance to the further development of polymer CDs with tailored properties as well as for the design of technological applications.

Exfoliated semiconducting MoS2 and WS2 were covalently functionalized with 1,2-dithiolane-modified carbon nanodots (CNDs). The newly synthesized CND-MoS2 and CND-WS2 hybrids were characterized by spectroscopic, thermal, and electron microscopy imaging methods. Based on electronic absorption and fluorescence emission spectroscopy, modulation of the optoelectronic properties of TMDs by interfacing with CNDs was accomplished. Electrochemical studies revealed facile oxidation of MoS2 over WS2 in the examined hybrids, suggesting it to be better electron donor. Excited state events, investigated by femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopic studies, revealed ultrafast energy transfer from photoexcited CNDs to both MoS2 and WS2. Interestingly, upon MoS2 photoexcitation, charge transfer from an exciton dissociation path of MoS2 to CNDs, within CND-MoS2, was observed. However, such a process in CND-WS2 was found to be absent due to energetic reasons. The present study highlights the importance of TMD-derived donor-acceptor hybrids in light energy harvesting and optoelectronic applications. Furthermore, the fundamental information obtained from the current results will benefit design strategies and impact the development of additional TMD-based hybrid materials to efficiently manage and perform in electron-transfer processes.

The preparation, characterization, and photophysical and electrocatalytic properties of carbon dot (CD)/MoS2 ensembles is reported. Based on electrostatic interactions, ammonium-functionalized MoS2 , which was prepared upon reaction of 1,2-dithiolane tert-butyl carbamate with MoS2 followed by acidic deprotection, was coupled with CDs bearing multiple carboxylates on their periphery, as derived upon microwave-assisted polycondensation of citric acid and ethylenediamine followed by alkaline treatment. Insights into electronic interactions between the two species within CD/MoS2 ensembles emanated from absorption and photoluminescence titration assays. Efficient fluorescence quenching of CDs by MoS2 was observed and attributed to photoinduced electron/energy transfer as the decay mechanism for the transduction of the singlet excited state of CDs. Finally, the electrocatalytic performance of the CD/MoS2 ensemble was assessed towards the hydrogen evolution reaction and found to be superior to that of individual CDs species.
