RESUMEN

We present the fascinating phenomena of resonant radiation emitted by transient rogue waves in cubic and quadratic nonlinear media, particularly those shed from Peregrine solitons, one of the main wavepackets used today to model real-world rogue waves. In cubic media, it turns out that the emission of radiation from a Peregrine soliton can be attributed to the presence of higher-order dispersion, but is affected by the intrinsic local longitudinal variation of the soliton wavenumber. In quadratic media, we reveal that a two-color Peregrine rogue wave can resonantly radiate dispersive waves even in the absence of higher-order dispersion, subjected to a phase-matching mechanism that involves the second-harmonic wave, and to a concomitant difference-frequency generation process. In both cubic and quadratic media, we provide simple analytic criteria for calculating the radiated frequencies in terms of material parameters, showing excellent agreement with numerical simulations.

1. Oxidative stress in duck embryos undergoes dynamic change during incubation. However, the detailed change characteristics has not been studied yet. Here, we explored the dynamic change characteristics of different antioxidant substances in duck embryo eggs during incubation.2. The following trial assayed antioxidant substances, including vitamins E (VE) and C (VC), glutathione (GSH), reduced glutathione (reduced GSH), oxidative glutathione (GSSG), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-px), and malonic dialdehyde (MDA). Five antioxidant peptides (DY1, DY2, DY3, DY4 and DY5) were screened and their protective effect on HepG2 cells and their mechanism of action determined.3. The results showed that antioxidant substances underwent a dynamic change during incubation through various mechanisms. Moreover, the T-AOC of duck embryos at different incubation times, firstly increased and then decreased, reaching the highest level on d 15 during incubation. The peptide DY2 (TVDGPSGKLWRD) exhibited high antioxidant activity in vitro, and is known to regulate the apoptosis pathway in mitochondria.4. The data indicated that duck embryos can be used for the development of related antioxidant products and purification of new bioactive peptides.

Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics and pregnancy outcomes in pregnant women with left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC). Methods: The clinical data of seven pregnant women with LVNC from January 2011 to December 2021 in Beijing Anzhen Hospital,Capital Medical University were retrospectively analyzed, including age, gestational age of symptom first occured, LVNC history, clinical symptoms, New York Heart Association (NYHA) cardiac function class, echocardiography, blood brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), treatment and the maternal and fetal outcomes. Results: Five cases were diagnosed before pregnancy, of which there were three women with medication; one case diagnosed in the month of pregnancy; one case diagnosed at 36 weeks of gestation. NYHA cardiac function was grade Ⅰ in four cases and grade Ⅱ in three cases before or during the first trimester of pregnancy. Of the five pregnant women who underwent echocardiography, there were one case of left ventricular insufficiency, three cases of mild left ventricular dysfunction and one case of normal left ventricular function before or during the first trimester of pregnancy. Of the five pregnant women to the second and third trimester of pregnancy, there were one case of grade Ⅳ, one case of grade Ⅲ, two cases of grade Ⅱ-Ⅲ and one case of grade Ⅱ in NYHA class ; three cases of left ventricular insufficiency, two cases of normal left ventricular function by echocardiography four cases had cardiac symptoms at 15-24 weeks of gestation and were treated with medication. In four cases, blood BNP increased to 214-1 197 ng/L during pregnancy, and were 89-106 ng/L after termination of pregnancy. There were 4 cases with arrhythmia. Indications for termination of pregnancy: LVNC complicated with heart failure in two cases, LVNC complicated with decreased cardiac function and threatened preterm birth in one case, complicated with pregnancy at full term in two cases, LVNC complicated with severe pulmonary hypertension in one case, and left ventricular dysfunction in one case. Cesarean section in four cases in the third-trimester, in one case in the second-trimester, and forceps curettage in two cases were taken. Two full-term infants,two preterm infants were born without LVNC. Conclusions: Women diagnosed with LVNC and low left ventricular ejection fraction before pregnancy are more prone to decreased cardiac function during pregnancy. Carrying out pregnancy risk assessment and strengthening the multi-disciplinary team management of high risk factors in pregnancy are conducive to achieve good pregnancy outcomes.

We describe the use of on-chip buckled-dome Fabry-Perot microcavities as pressure sensing elements. These cavities, fabricated by a controlled thin-film buckling process, are inherently sealed and support stable optical modes (finesse >103), which are well-suited to coupling by single-mode fibers. Changes in external pressure deflect the buckled upper mirror, leading to changes in resonance wavelengths. Experimental shifts are shown to be in good agreement with theoretical predictions. Sensitivities as large as ∼1nm/kPa, attributable to the low thickness (<2µm) of the buckled mirror, and resolution ∼10Pa are demonstrated. We discuss potential advantages over traditional low-finesse, quasi-planar Fabry-Perot pressure sensors.

We describe curved-mirror Fabry-Perot cavities with embedded silicon nitride membranes, fabricated using a monolithic surface-micromachining process. The presence of the suspended membranes was confirmed by confocal microscopy, and their properties were verified through optical studies and thermomechanical calibration of mechanical/vibrational noise spectra measured at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The cavities exhibit reflectance-limited finesse (F ∼ 103) and wavelength-scale mode volumes (VM ∼ 10·λ3). The short cavity length (L ∼ 2·λ) results in large optomechanical coupling, which is desirable for numerous applications in sensing and quantum information.

We describe a tunable bandpass filter and polarizer based on resonant tunneling through an air gap between two hemi-cylindrical prisms coated with 4-layer a-Si/SiO2 matching stacks. Tuning is achieved by simultaneous variations in the incident angle and the air gap thickness, enabling the pass-band center wavelength to be continuously adjusted over a very wide range (potentially ~1000 - 1800 nm) with an approximately fixed fractional bandwidth (Δλ/λ ~1%). An analytical derivation of the conditions required to produce a flat-top TE pass-band at a desired wavelength is given. The filter provides excellent out-of-band rejection and strong suppression of the orthogonal TM polarization over the entire tuning range. For applications involving collimated light, it could be a useful alternative to existing widely tunable filters based on gratings or liquid crystals.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the differences in the pattern of striatal (caudate and putamen) dopamine transporter (DAT) loss in a multiple system atrophy (MSA) cohort, based on the clinical variants parkinsonian subtype (MSA-P) and cerebellar subtype (MSA-C) via (11)C-N-2-carbomethoxy-3-(4-fluorophenyl)-tropane (11 C-CFT) positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred and six subjects (forty-one patients with probable MSA-P; forty patients with probable MSA-C; twenty-five healthy controls) underwent 11 C-CFT PET. Subregional 11 C-CFT uptake of bilateral caudate, anterior putamen, and posterior putamen was calculated respectively to measure the striatal dopaminergic function. RESULTS: Significant decrease in DAT binding in striatum was revealed in patients with MSA-C and MSA-P compared to normal controls (all regions, MSA-C vs controls, P < .0001; MSA-P vs controls, P < .0001). DAT reduction was more pronounced in MSA-P patients than that in MSA-C patients (all regions, P < .0001). Eleven of forty MSA-C patients displayed no DAT loss, whereas striatal DAT loss was evident in all MSA-P patients. MSA-P subtype showed a more obvious anteroposterior gradient of DAT loss and more asymmetric dopaminergic dysfunction compared to MSA-C patients. CONCLUSION: The subtypes of MSA studied here show significantly different spatial/anatomic patterns of striatonigral degeneration which may provide insights into their disease pathophysiology. Specifically, MSA-P patients exhibit an uneven and much greater pronounced loss of dopamine innervation, while a relatively uniform pattern is revealed in patients with the MSA-C. Furthermore, the typical reduction in DAT 11 C-CFT binding in striatum is not present in all MSA-C patients, with a minority of cases showing normal DAT binding.

OBJECTIVE: Our aim is to evaluate the expression of SATB1 in human oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC) and its role in the invasiveness and metastasis of OSCC. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A human OSCC tissue microarray was used to evaluate the expression pattern of SATB1. SATB1 mRNA knockdown was performed in human OSCC cell lines SCC25 and Cal27 to assess the function of SATB1 in the invasiveness and metastasis of OSCC. RESULTS: SATB1 is highly expressed in human OSCC determined by immunohistochemistry, and its nuclear/cytoplasmic ratio of histoscore is significantly correlated with patients' prognosis. Reduced cell motility, invasiveness, expression of epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers (N-cadherin and ß-catenin), and elevated expression of epithelial markers were observed in SATB1-knockdown cells in in vitro studies. Depletion of SATB1 also restored a cobblestone-like morphology in TGF-ß1-treated cells. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest SATB1 may play an important role in OSCC invasiveness and metastasis.

Glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1) and X-ray repair cross-complementing group 1 (XRCC1) genetic variations may in-fluence the efficacy of chemotherapy in various cancers. We investi-gated the possible roles of GSTP1 Ile105Val and XRCC1 Arg194Trp, and Arg399Gln gene polymorphisms in the prognosis of advanced non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) patients with cisplatin-based chemotherapy. Between January 2010 and December 2012, this study consecutively recruited 141 patients with advanced NSCLC from the First People's Hospital of Yunnan Province. Logistic regression analy-sis showed that individuals carrying the GG genotype were associated with a better response to chemotherapy than those with the wide-type genotype, with an adjusted odds ratio (95% confidence interval, CI) of 4.07 (1.06-25.06). Moreover, we observed that the AA genotype of XRCC1 Arg399Gln was correlated with a greater complete response + partial response to chemotherapy than that with the GG genotype (odds ratio = 2.71, 95%CI = 1.13-10.08). Based on the Cox hazard proportional model, the GG genotype of GSTP1 Ile105Val was found to be associated with a lower risk of death from all causes as compared to that with the AA genotype (hazard ratio = 0.07, 95%CI = 0.01-0.34). In summary, we suggest that GSTP1 Ile105Val and XRCC1 Arg399Gln polymorphisms could influence the response to chemotherapy and sur-vival of advanced NSCLC.

Excision repair cross-complementing gene-1 (ERCC1) is a key regulatory enzyme whose expression patterns in tumor tissues are associated with survival in gastric cancer. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of ERCC1 expression in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLs) on the outcome of patients with gastric cancer treated with oxaliplatin-based adjuvant chemotherapy. Tumor and PBL samples from 48 patients treated with adjuvant oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy for gastric cancer were analyzed. Immunohistochemistry was used to assess the expression of ERCC1. After a median follow-up of 18.5 months, the median disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were 12 and 20 months, respectively. Expression of ERCC1 was found in 72.9% (35/48), 56.3% (27/48), and 10.0% (2/20) of tumor tissues, PBLs from gastric cancer patients, and PBLs from controls, respectively. A significant positive correlation between ERCC1 expression in PBL and cancer tissue was found (χ(2) = 12.098, P = 0.001, Pearson contingency coefficient = 0.502). Patients with negative expression of ERCC1 in tumor tissues had a significantly longer median DFS and median OS compared to patients with positive expression of ERCC1 (median DFS, 18 vs 10 months, P = 0.006; median OS, 30 vs 17 months, P = 0.012). In PBLs, high expression of ERCC1 was associated with decreased DFS (9 vs 18 months, P = 0.032), but not OS (16 vs 24 months, P = 0.057). Patients with gastric cancer exhibiting negative expression of ERCC1 are more likely to benefit from oxaliplatin-based adjuvant chemotherapy.

The aim of this study was to report the clinical experience of repairing mandibular defects with a deep circumflex iliac artery perforator flap with iliac crest (DCIAPF) and to analyse the relevant anatomical data to guide clinical application. Forty patients with mandibular defects, who underwent reconstruction with a DCIAPF after oncological resection were included in the study. During the operation, anatomical features relevant to the structure of the DCIAPF were measured, including the position of the perforator, mobility of the skin paddle, length of the vascular pedicle, and adipose tissue thickness of the skin paddle. Three types of DCIAPF perforator were identified: type I, with a dominant perforator, which was observed in 17 patients (42.5%); type II, with a dominant perforator that divides into multiple tiny branches, in 20 patients (50%); type III, with no visible dominant perforator, in three patients (7.5%). In summary, the DCIAPF provides adequate bone tissue and satisfactory soft tissue.

Dentinogenesis imperfecta 1 (DGI1, MIM 125490) is an autosomal dominant dental disease characterized by abnormal dentin production and mineralization. The DGI1 locus was recently refined to a 2-Mb interval on 4q21 (ref. 1). Here we study three Chinese families carrying DGI1. We find that the affected individuals of two families also presented with progressive sensorineural high-frequency hearing loss (gene DFNA39). We identified three disease-specific mutations within the dentin sialophosphoprotein gene (DSPP) in these three families. We detected a G-->A transition at the donor-splicing site of intron 3 in one family without DFNA39, a mutation predicted to result in the skipping of exon 3. In two other families affected with both DGI1 and DFNA39, however, we identified two independent nucleotide transversions in exons 2 and 3 of DSPP, respectively, that cause missense mutations of two adjacent amino-acid residues in the predicted transmembrane region of the protein. Moreover, transcripts of DSPP previously reported to be expressed specifically in teeth are also detected in the inner ear of mice. We have thus demonstrated for the first time that distinct mutations in DSPP are responsible for the clinical manifestations of DGI1 with or without DFNA39.

The aim of this study was to compare single- and double-layer digital template-assisted genioplasty for the correction of jaw deformity resulting from temporomandibular joint ankylosis (TMJA). Thirteen patients with jaw deformity resulting from TMJA who underwent lateral arthroplasty, costochondral graft, or total joint replacement combined with single- or double-layer digital template-assisted genioplasty were included. Computed tomography data were obtained for the preoperative design. Digital templates were designed and manufactured using three-dimensional printing to assist with the chin osteotomy and repositioning in single- or double-layer genioplasty. Of the 13 patients included, seven underwent single-layer genioplasty and six underwent double-layer genioplasty. The digital templates precisely reflected the osteotomy planes and repositioning of the chin segments intraoperatively. The radiographic evaluation showed that the patients who underwent double-layer genioplasty exhibited more chin advancement (11.95 ± 0.92 mm vs 7.50 ± 0.89 mm; P < 0.001) with a slightly larger mean surface error (1.19 ± 0.14 mm vs 0.75 ± 0.15 mm; P < 0.001) than those who underwent single-layer genioplasty. This indicates that double-layer genioplasty better promoted chin advancement and improved the facial shape, but was accompanied by more surgical error compared with the preoperative design. Furthermore, hardly any nerve damage was observed. Digital templates are useful for assisting in surgical procedures.

Lymph node metastasis is related to poor prognosis in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), and few studies have explored the relevance of postoperative drainage fluid (PDF) in metastasis. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are nanosized vesicles that can transfer oncogenic molecules to regulate tumorigenesis. However, the proteomic profile of postoperative drainage fluid-derived EVs (PDF-EVs) in OSCC has not been elucidated. Herein, we collected drainage fluid from OSCC patients after neck dissection to investigate the difference in PDF-EVs between patients with metastatic lymph nodes (the LN+ group) and nonmetastatic lymph nodes (the LN- group). The proteomic profile of PDF-EVs from the LN+ and LN- groups was compared using label-free liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry-based protein quantification. The results revealed that PDF-EVs were mainly derived from epithelial cells and immune cells. A total of 2,134 proteins in the PDF-EVs were identified, and 313 were differentially expressed between the LN+ and LN- groups. Metabolic proteins, such as EHD2 and CAVIN1, were expressed at higher levels in the LN+ group than in the LN- group, and the levels of EHD2 and CAVIN1 in the postoperative drainage fluid were positively correlated with lymph node metastasis. Our study revealed previously undocumented postoperative drainage fluid-associated proteins in patients with metastatic OSCC, providing a starting point for understanding their role in metastatic and nonmetastatic OSCC.

As the national key discipline and the initiator of oral and maxillofacial deformity group, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery persisted in teaching, designed a novel teaching form combining theoretical knowledge and online software practice according to the characteristics of our discipline and carried out "cloud training" via the National Oral Telemedicine Education Platform. Ten lecturers, 325 theoretical students and 50 practical students were investigated by questionnaire in the present study with questions focusing on the geographical distribution and composition of personnel, etc. The results showed that the online course covered a wide range of students and achieved high acceptance and satisfaction rate. The first online software operation course was conducted in an orderly manner, with timely interaction between teachers and students. The students were able to master the design process skillfully. This "cloud training" has achieved good results, but there are still a series of problems that have yet to be resolved, such as network stalls and protection of intellectual property rights. The aim of the present study was to determine whether a prostate-specific amplicon, containing a probasin-derived promoter (ARR(2)PB) upstream of an essential Herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) viral gene, infected-cell polypeptide 4 (ICP4), could complement an HSV-1 helper virus with this gene deleted (ICP4-) and cause lytic replication specifically in prostate cancer cells. Two amplicon constructs, CMV-ICP4 and ARR(2)PB-ICP4, were packaged by a replication-deficient ICP4- helper virus. The amplicon viruses could complement ICP4- helper viruses to efficiently replicate and cause cell lysis in prostate cancer cells. Intratumoral injection of LNCaP human prostate cancer xenografts with either amplicon/helper virus resulted in >75% reduction in tumor volume and serum prostate specific antigen (PSA). Histological and Q-PCR (quantitative PCR) analyses indicated that the toxicity in nontumor tissues was much lower with ARR(2)PB-ICP4 than with CMV-ICP4 amplicon/helper virus. In conclusion, a replication-deficient HSV-1 virus could be complemented by an amplicon virus to restore its oncolytic activity in a tissue-specific and low toxicity fashion, illustrating that this approach could be a potentially useful strategy for developing an oncolytic viral therapy for prostate cancer.

Head and neck cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers around the world. Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) accounts for nearly 90% of head and neck cancer. In recent years, significant advances have been made in immunotherapy for HNSCC. Although some clinical trials targeting immune checkpoints have shown success, the molecular mechanism for regulation of programmed death 1 (PD-1) and its ligand (PD-L1) is partially understood. In an effort to explore the effect of activation of signal transducers and activators of transcriptions (STAT3) on PD-1/PD-L1, the expression and correlation between phosphorylation of STAT3 and PD-1/PD-L1 were determined with immunostaining of human and mouse HNSCC tissue sections. PD-1/PD-L1 overexpression was found to be significantly associated with p-STAT3 in human and mouse HNSCC. Targeting STAT3 by a small molecule effectively inhibited the expression of PD-L1 in the CAL27 cell line. Furthermore, we found that blockade of STAT3 signaling downregulated PD-1/PD-L1 in a Tgfbr1/Pten 2cKO HNSCC mouse model. These findings suggest that STAT3 signaling plays an important role in PD-1/PD-L1 regulation and the antitumor immune response of HNSCC.

OBJECTIVE: To summarize the postoperative complications of reconstruction of mandible defect with titanium reconstruction plate. METHODS: A total of 111 cases of the mandibular defect caused by various reasons and repaired by titanium reconstruction plate in the Department Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University from 2003 to 2012 were collected and followed up. The complications were analyzed. RESULTS: Thirty-seven percent of 111 cases showed long term complications. The titanium fracture was the main complication(16%[18/111]), followed by stress-shielding (9%[10/111]), infection(8%[9/111]), and titanium plate exposure(4%[4/111]). Titanium plate fracture occurred within 8 months and 3 years after surgery. The simple titanium plate reconstruction had the highest rate of plate fracture(30%[15/50]). Stress-shielding in non-vascularized bone graft was more significant than that in vascularized bone graft(P<0.05). When replaced by mini-titanium plate, the stress-shielding effect disappeared gradually. When the retention of mandibular margin height was less than 1 cm with the use of reconstruction plate, the postoperative complications were prone to occur. CONCLUSIONS: Bone graft is the best way to reconstruct mandibular defect, and simple reconstruction plate repair is applied only as a transitional means for high degree of malignancy, obvious recurrence tendency tumor or special reasons such as age etc, which are not suitable for bone graft. The reconstruction plate fixation is not recommended for bone graft, especially non-vascularized bone graft. The retention of mandibular margin with reconstruction plate fixation is open to discussion.

A study was conducted to determine the effects of feeding sorghum distiller's dried grains with solubles (SDDGS) on carcasses characteristics (live weight, whole net carcass rate, breast muscle percentage, thigh muscle percentage), muscle quality (meat color, shear stress, cooking loss rate, cooked meat percentage), and meat composition of China Micro Duck (CMD) drakes aged from 4 to 8 wk. A total of 240 CMD drakes (aged 4 wk and initial weight was 496.7 g) were randomly allotted to one of 4 dietary treatments in randomized complete block design. The 4 treatments were S0(the control group, S5, S10, S15, indicating the dietary content of SDDGS (zero, 5,10 and 15%, respectively). Each treatment with 60 drakes was equally divided into 6 repeated test groups, each group with 10 drakes. The results showed that S5, S10, and S15 could decrease the thigh muscle percentage linearly (P < 0.01); however, there was no significant (p > 0.05) effect on other carcass characteristic and muscle quality indexes of live body weight (BW), whole net carcass yield (WNCY), breast muscle percentage (BMP), breast muscle color (BMC), thigh muscle color (TMC), breast shear strength (BSS), cooking loss (CL), or cooked meat percentage (CMP). For meat composition, the increasing level of SDDGS caused a linear and quadratic decrease (P < 0.01) of crude protein and a linear and quadratic (P < 0.01) increase of crude fat of thigh and breast muscle, while breast muscle ash was not significantly affected (P > 0.05). Overall, this study revealed that in the 3 kinds of diets with SDDGS, S5 had the least negative impact on carcass characteristics, muscle quality, and meat composition.
