RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to translate and cross-culturally adapt the Core Outcome Measures Index for (COMI) into a Simplified Chinese version (COMI-SC) and to evaluate the reliability and validity of COMI-SC in patients with neck pain. METHODS: The COMI-neck was translated into Chinese according to established methods. The COMI-neck questionnaire was then completed by 122 patients with a hospital diagnosis of neck pain. Reliability was assessed by calculating Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Construct validity was assessed by correlating the COMI-neck with the Neck Pain and Disability Scale (NPDS), the Neck Disability Index (NDI), the VAS and the Short Form (36) Health Survey (SF-36). Using confirmatory factor analysis to validate the structural, convergent and discriminant validity of the questionnaire. RESULTS: The COMI-neck total scores were well distributed, with no floor or ceiling effects. Internal consistency was excellent (Cronbach's alpha = 0.861). Moderate to substantial correlations were found between COMI-neck and NPDS (r = 0.420/0.416/0.437, P < 0.001), NDI (r = 0.890, P < 0.001), VAS (r = 0.845, P < 0.001), as well as physical function (r = - 0.989, P < 0.001), physical role (r = - 0.597, P < 0.001), bodily pain (r = - 0. 639, P < 0.001), general health (r = - 0.563, P < 0.001), vitality (r = - 0.702, P < 0.001), social functioning (r = - 0.764, P < 0.001), role emotional (r = - 0.675, P < 0.001) and mental health (r = - 0.507, P < 0.001) subscales of the SF-36. An exploratory factor analysis revealed that the 3-factor loading explained 71.558% of the total variance [Kaiser-Mayer-Olkin (KMO) = 0.780, C2 = 502.82, P < 0.001]. CMIN/DF = 1.813, Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) = 0.966 (> 0.9), Comparative Fit Index (CFI) = 0.982 (> 0.9), Normed Fit Index (NFI) = 0.961 (> 0.9), RMSEA = 0.082 (< 0.5) indicating that the model fits well. CONCLUSION: COMI-neck was shown to have acceptable reliability and validity in patients with non-specific chronic neck pain and could be recommended for patients in mainland China. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Diagnostic: individual cross-sectional studies with consistently applied reference standard and blinding.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effectiveness of a discourse-based psychological intervention on perioperative anxiety, pain and life satisfaction of patients with AIS. METHODS: Between April 2018 and February 2021, 116 consecutive patients with AIS undergoing corrective surgery were enrolled in this study, including 51 with personalized psychological intervention (intervention group, IG) and 65 without (control group, CG). After propensity score matching (PSM), patient characteristics, perioperative scores of anxiety and life satisfaction, measured by values of Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item Scale (GAD-7) and Life Satisfaction Index Z scale (LSIZ), were recorded. Mixed linear models were used to estimate the influence of intervention group and time of measurement, as well as their interactions, in anxiety and life satisfaction. Data on post-surgical pain in both groups was also collected and analyzed. RESULTS: After PSM, a total of 90 patients (IG, n = 45; CG, n = 45) were enrolled in this study, and the 2 groups were comparable in patients' demographic and baseline characteristics. There were no pre-intervention between-group differences in the degree of anxiety (IG: 3.98 ± 3.27 vs. CG: 3.93 ± 3.20, p = .948, Cohen's d = 0.015), and life satisfaction (IG: 6.56 ± 1.70 vs. CG: 6.67 ± 2.09, p = .783, Cohen's d = -0.058). After surgery, participants in both IG and CG showed improved the levels of anxiety (GAD-7: IG 2.18 ± 1.21; CG 2.87 ± 2.00) and life satisfaction (LSIZ: IG 9.84 ± 2.09; CG 9.02 ± 2.15). A stratified analysis of patients with generalized anxiety disorder showed improved anxiety (GAD-7: IG 3.50 ± 1.22 vs. CG 6.80 ± 2.05, p = .017, Cohen's d = -1.956) and lower pain level (VAS: IG 4.50 ± 1.76 vs. CG 7.00 ± 1.00, p = .017, Cohen's d = -1.747) in the IG than the CG after surgery. CONCLUSIONS: Discourse-based psychological intervention before surgery can improve perioperative anxiety and life satisfaction, and postoperative painful condition, especially for patients with high-leveled pre-surgical anxiety.

RESUMEN

Flexible organic near-infrared (NIR) phototransistors hold promising prospects for potential applications such as noninvasive bioimaging, health monitoring, and biometric authentication. For integrated circuits of high-performance devices, organic single-crystalline micro-/nanostructures with precise positioning are prominently anticipated. However, the manufacturing of organic single-crystalline arrays remains a conundrum due to difficulties encountered in patterning arrays of dewetting processes at micron-scale confined space and modulating the dewetting dynamics. Herein, we utilize a capillary-bridge lithography strategy to fabricate organic 1D arrays with high quality, homogeneous size, and deterministic location toward high-performance flexible organic NIR phototransistors. Regular micro-liquid stripes and unidirectional dewetting are synchronously achieved by adapting micropillar templates with asymmetric wettability. As a result, high-throughput 1D arrays based organic field-effect transistors exhibit high electron mobility up to 9.82 cm2  V-1  s-1 . Impressively, flexible NIR phototransistors also show outstanding photoelectronic performances with a photosensitivity of 9.87 × 105 , a responsivity of 1.79 × 104  A W-1 , and a specific detectivity of 3.92 × 1014 Jones. This work paves a novel way to pattern high-throughput organic single-crystalline microarrays toward flexible NIR organic optoelectronics.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The Fremantle back awareness questionnaire (FreBAQ) was recently developed as simple and quick tool to assess back-specific body perception in Low back pain (LBP) patients. The aim of the present study was to translate and cross-culturally adapt the Fremantle back awareness questionnaire (FreBAQ) into a Simplified Chinese version (FreBAQ-C), and evaluate the reliability and validity of the FreBAQ-C in patients with non-specific Chronic Low back pain (CLBP). METHODS: The FreBAQ was translated into Chinese according to established methods. Internal consistency was assessed according to Cronbach's alpha. Test-retest reliability was estimated by Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Construct validity was evaluated by correlations between the FreBAQ-C and Visual analogue scale (VAS), Roland-Morris disability questionnaire (RDQ), Pain catastrophizing scale (PCS), Tampa scale for kinesiophobia (TSK) as well as Hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS). RESULTS: A total of 105 participants (38 males and 67 females) were included in this study with the mean age of 54.1 ± 15.6 years, mean duration of LBP of 6.8 ± 4.6 years. The FreBAQ-C total scores were well distributed, with no floor or ceiling effects. Internal consistency was excellent (Cronbach's alpha = 0.833). ICC of test-retest reliability was good (0.897, 95% confidence interval: 0.852-0.929). The limits of agreement (LOA) ranged from - 5.8 to 6.3. The Standard error of measurement (SEM) and Minimum detectable change (MDC) were 2.16 and 5.99. Construct validity was confirmed by significant correlation of The FreBAQ-C and VAS during motion (r = 0.274, p = 0.005) and rest (r = 0.243, p = 0.012), RDQ (r = 0.377, p < 0.001), PCS (r = 0.439, p < 0.001), and TSK(r = 0.311, p = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The FreBAQ-C was demonstrated to have acceptable reliability and validity for patients with non-specific CLBP in Chinese mainland. It will allow evaluating body preception of the back in the Chinese population with CLBP.

RESUMEN

Autoimmune diseases are chronic immune diseases characterized by dysregulation of immune system, which ultimately results in a disruption in self-antigen tolerance. Cumulative data show that nucleotide-binding and oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptors (NLRs) play essential roles in various autoimmune diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), psoriasis, multiple sclerosis (MS), etc. NLR proteins, consisting of a C-terminal leucine-rich repeat (LRR), a central nucleotide-binding domain, and an N-terminal effector domain, form a group of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) that mediate the immune response by specifically recognizing cellular pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) or damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) and triggering numerous signaling pathways, including RIP2 kinase, caspase-1, nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and so on. Based on their N-terminal domain, NLRs are divided into five subfamilies: NLRA, NLRB, NLRC, NLRP, and NLRX1. In this review, we briefly describe the structures and signaling pathways of NLRs, summarize the recent progress on NLR signaling in the occurrence and development of autoimmune diseases, as well as highlight numerous natural products and synthetic compounds targeting NLRs for the treatment of autoimmune diseases.

RESUMEN

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is characterized by joint leukocyte infiltration, synovial inflammation and bone damage result from osteoclastogenesis. Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) is a key regulator of B cell receptor (BCR) and Fc gamma receptor (FcγR) signaling involved in the pathobiology of RA and other autoimmune disorders. SOMCL-17-016 is a potent and selective tricyclic BTK inhibitor, structurally distinct from other known BTK inhibitors. In present study we investigated the therapeutic efficacy of SOMCL-17-016 in a mouse collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) model and underlying mechanisms. CIA mice were administered SOMCL-17-016 (6.25, 12.5, 25 mg·kg-1·d-1, ig), or ibrutinib (25 mg·kg-1·d-1, ig) or acalabrutinib (25 mg·kg-1·d-1, ig) for 15 days. We showed that oral administration of SOMCL-17-016 dose-dependently ameliorated arthritis severity and bone damage in CIA mice; it displayed a higher in vivo efficacy than ibrutinib and acalabrutinib at the corresponding dosage. We found that SOMCL-17-016 administration dose-dependently inhibited anti-IgM-induced proliferation and activation of B cells from CIA mice, and significantly decreased anti-IgM/anti-CD40-stimulated RANKL expression in memory B cells from RA patients. In RANKL/M-CSF-stimulated RAW264.7 cells, SOMCL-17-016 prevented osteoclast differentiation and abolished RANK-BTK-PLCγ2-NFATc1 signaling. In summary, this study demonstrates that SOMCL-17-016 presents distinguished therapeutic effects in the CIA model. SOMCL-17-016 exerts a dual inhibition of B cell function and osteoclastogenesis, suggesting that it to be a promising drug candidate for RA treatment.

RESUMEN

Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial disorder of the tears and ocular surface characterized by manifestations of dryness and irritation. Although the pathogenesis is not fully illuminated, it is recognized that inflammation has a prominent role in the development and deterioration of DED. ß-aminoarteether maleate (SM934) is a water-soluble artemisinin derivative with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive activities. In this study, we established scopolamine hydrobromide (SCOP)-induced rodent model as well as benzalkonium chloride (BAC)-induced rat model to investigate the therapeutic potential of SM934 for DED. We showed that topical application of SM934 (0.1%, 0.5%) significantly increased tear secretion, maintained the number of conjunctival goblet cells, reduced corneal damage, and decreased the levels of inflammatory mediators (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-10, or IL-1ß) in conjunctiva in SCOP-induced and BAC-induced DED models. Moreover, SM934 treatment reduced the accumulation of TLR4-expressing macrophages in conjunctiva, and suppressed the expression of inflammasome components, i.e., myeloid differentiation factor88 (MyD88), Nod-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3), apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing CARD (ASC), and cleaved caspase 1. In LPS-treated RAW 264.7 cells, we demonstrated that pretreatment with SM934 (10 µM) impeded the upregulation of TLR4 and downstream NF-κB/NLRP3 signaling proteins. Collectively, artemisinin analog SM934 exerts therapeutic benefits on DED by simultaneously reserving the structural integrity of ocular surface and preventing the corneal and conjunctival inflammation, suggested a further application of SM934 in ophthalmic therapy, especially for DED.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Critically evaluation and summarization for the outcomes between autografts and artificial grafts using in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction have not been performed currently. The purpose of this study is to compare the clinical outcomes between artificial ligaments and autografts at a short- to mid-term follow-up. METHODS: A computerized search of the databases was conducted including Medline, Embase, and the Cochrane library. Only prospective or retrospective comparative studies with a minimum 2-year follow-up and a minimum sample size of 15 for each group were considered for inclusion. Two independent reviewers performed data extraction and methodological quality assessment. A Mantel-Haenszel analysis was used for pooling of results. Sensitivity analysis was performed in order to maintain the stability of results. RESULTS: Seven studies were included in this study. The total sample size was 403 (autograft group: 206 patients; synthetic graft group: 197 patients). Four studies were randomized controlled trials. Two studies were retrospective comparative studies and one study was non-randomized prospective comparative study. In terms of instrumented laxity, patient-oriented outcomes and complications, no significant difference was occurred between new artificial ligaments and autografts. But the results of IKDC grades and instrumented laxity were worsen in early artificial ligaments compared to autografts. CONCLUSIONS: The outcomes of new generation of artificial ligaments are similar to autografts at a short- to mid-term follow-up. However, the early artificial ligaments are not suggested for ACL reconstruction compared to autografts.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Dislocation is the second most common complication after total hip arthroplasty (THA). The effectiveness of soft tissue repair to reduce dislocation rate is still debated and thus a meta-analysis was conducted. METHODS: A systematic search in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases was conducted for this meta-analysis. INCLUSION CRITERIA: clinical comparative trials on the use of soft tissue repair including rotators and capsule repair in primary THA. The main data outcome were the incidences of early hip dislocation after primary THA. HSS score, incidence of other complications was also included in the outcomes. RESULTS: A total of 4816 cases were included for the analysis from ten studies (3 RCTs/7 Retrospective trials). Overall, the soft tissue repair group showed a significant lower early dislocation rate and higher HSS score compared to the no repair group; but no significant difference was observed between the two groups in regards to the early dislocation rate in RCT studies only. The capsule repair group showed a significant lower early dislocation rate than no capsule repair group while no significant difference was observed between the rotators repair group and no rotators repair group. In all included studies, 4 greater trochanter fractures, 2 sciatic nerve palsies and 1 infection were reported in soft tissue repair group while no cases were observed in the no repair group. CONCLUSIONS: The efficacy of soft tissue repair is positive but still not conclusive to reduce the early dislocation rate after primary THA while soft tissue repair may bring more other complications. Capsule repair seems more effective than rotators repair only.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) activity score into a simplified Chinese version (UCLA-C) and evaluate the reliability and validity of the UCLA-C for patients with both knee arthroscopy and total knee arthroplasty. METHODS: Cross-cultural adaptation was performed according to the internationally recognized guidelines of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Outcome Committee. A total of 200 participants (100 arthroscopy and 100 total knee arthroplasty) were recruited in this study. An intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to determine reliability. Construct validity was analyzed by evaluating the correlations between UCLA-C and the Tegner activity score, Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score, and the short-form (36) health survey. RESULTS: The original version of the UCLA activity score was cross-culturally well adapted and translated into simplified Chinese. UCLA-C was found to have excellent reliability in both arthroscopy (ICC = 0.984, 95% confidence interval 0.976-0.989) and arthroplasty (ICC = 0.946, 95% confidence interval 0.920-0.964). Absolute reliability as evaluated by minimal detectable change was 0.789 and 0.837 for both arthroscopy and arthroplasty groups. Moderate to high correlations between UCLA-C and Tegner activity score (0.799, P < .001); Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (0.449-0.715, P < .001); and Physical Functioning, Pain, General Health, and Social Functioning (0.549-0.746, P < .001) subdomains of short-form (36) health survey were observed. CONCLUSION: UCLA-C was demonstrated to have excellent acceptability, reliability, and validity in both arthroscopy and arthroplasty, and could be recommended for patients in mainland China.

RESUMEN

Spinal cord injury (SCI) remains a formidable challenge, lacking effective treatments. Following SCI, neural stem cells (NSCs) migrate to SCI sites, offering a potential avenue for nerve regeneration, but the effectiveness of this intrinsic repair mechanism remains suboptimal. Salidroside has demonstrated pro-repair attributes in various pathological conditions, including arthritis and cerebral ischemia, and the ability to curtail early-stage inflammation following SCI. However, the specific role of salidroside in the late-stage repair processes of SCI remains less defined. In this investigation, we observed that continuous salidroside treatment in SCI mice improved motor function recovery. Immunofluorescence-staining corroborated salidroside's capacity to stimulate nerve regeneration and remyelination, suppress glial scar hyperplasia, reduce the activation of neurotoxic A1 astrocytes, and facilitate NSCs migration towards the injured region. Mechanistically, in vitro experiments elucidated salidroside's significant role in restraining astrocyte proliferation and A1 polarization. It was further established that A1 astrocytes hinder NSCs proliferation while inducing their differentiation into astrocytes. Salidroside effectively ameliorated this inhibition of NSCs proliferation through diminishing c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) pathway phosphorylation and restored their differentiation into neurons by suppressing the signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) pathway. In summary, our findings suggest that salidroside holds promise as a therapeutic agent for traumatic SCI treatment.

RESUMEN

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective study. OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical efficacy of posterior lumbar laminectomy decompression under full endoscopic technique (Endo-LOVE) and percutaneous endoscopic medial foraminal decompression (PE-MFD) in the treatment of degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (DLSS). METHODS: Between April 2017 and April 2018, 96 patients with DLSS underwent Endo-LOVE or PE-MFD, including 58 with Endo-LOVE and 38 with PE-MFD. After propensity score matching (PSM), patient characteristics, operation time, intraoperative fluoroscopy times, postoperative bedridden time, hospital stay and postoperative complications were recorded and compared. The clinical efficacy was evaluated according to Oswestry disability index (ODI), visual analogue scale (VAS), lumbar disease JOA and modified MacNab criteria. RESULTS: A total of 96 patients with DLSS were included in the study. After PSM, the 2 groups were comparable in patient demographic and baseline characteristics. The operation time and intraoperative fluoroscopy times in PE-MFD group were significantly more than those in Endo-LOVE group (P < .05). The operation time in PE-MFD group was significantly less than that in Endo-LOVE group (P < .05).The intraoperative fluoroscopy times in PE-MFD group were significantly more than that in Endo-LOVE group (P < .05). The ODI, VAS and lumbar disease JOA in the 2 groups were significantly improved comparing with those before operation (P < .05). According to the modified MacNab criteria, the excellent and good rates of the 2 groups were 93.5% in Endo-LOVE group and 87.1% in PE-MFD group (P > .05). CONCLUSION: Endo-LOVE and PE-MFD technique can both effectively treat DLSS, and the short-term follow-up results are positive. Endo-LOVE technique has the advantages of fast puncture positioning, less radiation exposure and wider indications. However, PE-MFD needs more radiation exposure and has the possibility of incomplete decompression for complex multiplanar spinal stenosis.

RESUMEN

Introduction: The classification model of motor imagery-based electroencephalogram (MI-EEG) is a new human-computer interface pattern and a new neural rehabilitation assessment method for diseases such as Parkinson's and stroke. However, existing MI-EEG models often suffer from insufficient richness of spatiotemporal feature extraction, learning ability, and dynamic selection ability. Methods: To solve these problems, this work proposed a convolutional sliding window-attention network (CSANet) model composed of novel spatiotemporal convolution, sliding window, and two-stage attention blocks. Results: The model outperformed existing state-of-the-art (SOTA) models in within- and between-individual classification tasks on commonly used MI-EEG datasets BCI-2a and Physionet MI-EEG, with classification accuracies improved by 4.22 and 2.02%, respectively. Discussion: The experimental results also demonstrated that the proposed type token, sliding window, and local and global multi-head self-attention mechanisms can significantly improve the model's ability to construct, learn, and adaptively select multi-scale spatiotemporal features in MI-EEG signals, and accurately identify electroencephalogram signals in the unilateral motor area. This work provided a novel and accurate classification model for MI-EEG brain-computer interface tasks and proposed a feasible neural rehabilitation assessment scheme based on the model, which could promote the further development and application of MI-EEG methods in neural rehabilitation.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This study cross-culturally adapted and psychometrically validated a simplified Chinese version of the Exercise-Induced Leg Pain Questionnaire (SC-EILP) for evaluating the severity of symptoms and sports ability among individuals with exercise-induced leg pain. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred and fourteen participants with exercise-induced leg pain were included. To assess reliability, we calculated Cronbach's α and intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC). Construct validity was analysed by assessing the correlations between SC-EILP and visual analogue scale (VAS), University of California Los Angeles activity score (UCLA), and short form (36) health survey (SF-36). Factorial validity was used to establish the factor structure of the questionnaire. RESULTS: The EILP was cross-culturally well-adapted and translated into simplified Chinese. Each item was appropriately correlated with the total items. SC-EILP had nearly good reliability [Cronbach's α = 0.798, ICC = 0.897, 95% confidence interval 0.851-0.929]. The elimination of any one item in all did not result in a value of Cronbach's α of <0.80. SC-EILP had a very good correlation with VAS (-0.607, p < 0.01) and a moderate correlation with UCLA (0.581, p < 0.01) and physical domains of SF-36 (0.499-0.528, p < 0.01). Exploratory factor analysis revealed the 3-factor loading explained 74.736% of the total variance [Kaiser-Mayer-Olkin (KMO) = 0.672, C2 = 665.34, p < 0.001]. CONCLUSIONS: SC-EILP showed excellent acceptability, internal consistency, reliability, and construct validity, and could be recommended for individuals in Mainland China.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Low back pain (LBP) from hip and spinal disorders has been one of the main reasons for visiting physicians in patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). It is essential to identify the LBP improvement among all grades of DDH patients treated with total hip arthroplasty (THA) at 5-year follow-up. METHODS: The study included 407 hips of 306 patients (38 males, 268 females) who underwent THA between July 2007 and December 2016. There were 65 hips in Crowe I, 61 hips in Crowe II, 69 hips in Crowe III, and 212 hips in Crowe IV. One hundred and fourteen hips received subtrochanteric shortening. Patients included 101 bilateral THA (BTHA) and 205 unilateral THA (UTHA). The evaluation was performed through Back Pain Function Scale (BPFS), Harris hip score, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), operative data and radiographic examinations. RESULTS: The BPFS in patients of unilateral Crowe III and IV relieved significantly more (p < 0.05). However, the BPFS in patients with bilateral symmetry DDH hips relieved significantly less than other groups of DDH hips (p < 0.05). Harris in hips of Crowe II improved significantly more (p < 0.05). The VAS in hips of Crowe II and III improved significantly more (p < 0.05). The unilateral THA surgical time, blood loss, blood transfusion, and osteotomy number and length in Crowe IV were significantly more (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: THA is reliable to relieve LBP in DDH patients of unilateral Crowe III and IV; however, in patients with unilateral Crowe I, Crowe II, and bilateral DDH hips, the LBP improvements were limited. This should assist shared decision-making between orthopedic surgeons and patients. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic Level II. RESUMEN

Objectives: Spinal fusion is a widely employed treatment of patients with degenerative disc disease, in which a cage is used to replace the disc for spinal fusion. But it often fails for insufficient mechanical strength and poor osseointegration. Here, we designed a polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK)/tantalum (Ta) composite cage with a biomimetic gradient porous micro-structure, simultaneously enhancing mechanical properties and accelerating osseointegration in spinal fusion. Materials and methods: In the study, based on the mechanical performances of PEEK and osteogenic potential of Ta, and the three-dimensional (3D) structures of cuttlebone and vertebra, the cages were respectively 3D printed by pure PEEK, PEEK with 5 wt% Ta (PEEK/Ta-5), PEEK with 10 wt% Ta (PEEK/Ta-10) and PEEK with 15 wt% Ta (PEEK/Ta-15), then verified in vitro and in sheep cervical fusion model systematically. Results: Vertebral Gyroid structure PEEK/Ta-15 cage exhibited superior mechanical properties than Cuttlebone-like structure PEEK/Ta-15 cage, closer to the cervical vertebra. Furthermore, PEEK/Ta-15 cage with higher Ta microparticles in PEEK provided a biomimetic gradient porous micro-structure with higher surface energy, guiding cell biological behavior, promoting new bone penetration, and accelerating osseointegration in vivo. Conclusion: In conclusion, the study designed a biomimetic gradient porous cage with a micro-structure for enhancing mechanical properties, accelerating osseointegration and forming an anatomical lock in the fusion segment through composites, mechanical efficiency, surface extension, and pores.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Platelet-rich plasma(PRP), with different concentration of leukocytes, may lead to varying effects in the treatment of cartilage lesions. So far, current research has not shown enough evidence on this. To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of intra-articular injection with pure platelet-rich plasma (P-PRP) versus those of leukocyte platelet-rich plasma (L-PRP) in treating knee cartilage lesions, we conducted a double-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial with a larger sample and longer follow-up period. METHODS: From October 2019 to October 2020, 95 patients were invited to participate in our study, and 60 (63.2%) were randomized to P-PRP (n = 30) or L-PRP (n = 30) groups. Patients from the two groups were treated with knee intra-articular injections of P-PRP or L-PRP. Visual analog scale (VAS) and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) scores were assessed using an unpaired t-test for independent samples preoperatively and at 6 weeks, 12 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months after intervention. RESULTS: We followed up 27 cases in the P-PRP group and 26 cases in the L-PRP group. No significant differences in VAS and WOMAC scores were found between the two groups before the intervention (p > 0.05). The WOMAC Pain and VAS-Motions scores of the P-PRP group were significantly lower than those of the L-PRP group at 6 weeks after the intervention (p < 0.05). While the long-term clinical efficacy of both injections was similar and weakened after 12 months, more adverse events were found in the L-PRP group. CONCLUSIONS: The short-term results demonstrate a positive effect in reducing pain and improving function in patients with knee cartilage lesions in the two groups. While the P-PRP injection showed better clinical efficacy in the early phase of postoperative rehabilitation and resulted in fewer adverse events, long-term follow-up showed similar and weakened efficacy after 12 months. RESUMEN

The Inferior Frontal Gyrus, Premotor Cortex and Inferior Parietal Lobe were suggested to be involved in action and language processing. However, the patterns of neural activities in the shared neural regions are still unclear. This study designed an fMRI experiment to analyze the neural activity associations between action and verb generation for object nouns. Using noun reading as a control task, we compared the differences and similarities of brain regions activated by action and verb generation. The results showed that the action generation task activated more in the dorsal Premotor Cortex (PMC), parts of the midline of PMC and the left Inferior Parietal Lobe (IPL) than the verb generation task. Subregions in the bilateral Supplementary Motor Area (SMA) and the left Inferior Frontal Gyrus (IFG) were found to be shared by action and verb generation. Then, mean activation level analysis and multi-voxel pattern analysis (MVPA) were performed in the overlapping activation regions of two generation tasks in the shared regions. The bilateral SMA and the left IFG were found to have overlapping activations with action and verb generation. All the shared regions were found to have different activation patterns, and the mean activation levels of the shared regions in the bilateral of SMA were significantly higher in the action generation. Based on the function of these brain regions, it can be inferred that the shared regions in the bilateral SMA and the left IFG process action and language generation in a task-specific and intention-specific manner, respectively.

RESUMEN

Polymer micro/nanoarchitectures have attracted intense interest for wearable medical applications due to their excellent mechanical flexibility, solution processability, and tunable optoelectronic properties. Based on polymer micro/nanostructures, high-performance ultraviolet (UV) photodetectors can not only functionalize the accurate image sensing but also sustain the biocomfortable flexible devices for real-time health monitoring. The main challenges are focused on the integration of medical wearable devices, which requires large-scale assembly of polymer micro/nanostructures with controlled morphology and strict alignment. Herein, we utilized a confined assembly system through the cautious regulation for the growth of high-quality polymer 1D arrays. UV photodetectors based on these polymer microwire arrays perform a high on/off ratio of 137 and responsivity of 19.1 mA W-1. Polymer microarray photodetectors facilitate the scale-up fabrication of 14 × 18 multiplexed image sensors for highly accurate capturing the signals of Arabic numerals "1," "2," and "3." Flexible UV photodetectors based on these arrays present excellent flexibility and bending durability, maintaining 97% of their original on/off ratio after 4000 cycles with a 10 mm bending radius. UV photodetection signals were also collected from the attached flexible devices on the back skin of the mouse, demonstrating the great potential in wearable medical photodetection.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The 39-item ROwan Foot Pain Assessment Questionnaire (ROFPAQ) has affective, cognitive, and sensory dimensions to evaluate chronic foot pain. However, to date, the ROFPAQ has only been validated in English and Spanish versions. A simplified Chinese version of ROFPAQ is still not available, even though China has a large population of patients with foot pain. OBJECTIVE: This study's aim was to translate the ROFPAQ into a Chinese version and assess its reliability and validity in Chinese patients with chronic foot pain. STUDY DESIGN: A cross-sectional, multicenter descriptive study. SETTING: This study took place at the Chinese PLA General Hospital, PLA Strategic Support Force Characteristic Medical Center and Wenzhou integrated traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital Affiliated to Zhejiang traditional Chinese Medicine University. METHODS: The ROFPAQ-C (Chinese) was developed by a forward/backward translation protocol and cross-cultural adaptation from the United Kingdom to China, and from English to Chinese Putonghua. A total of 194 patients from 3 centers with chronic foot pain were recruited for test-retest measures from July 2020 though September 2021. RESULTS: Adequate internal consistencies (Cronbach's Alpha) in 3 domains ranged from 0.875 to 0.799 for the cognitive, from 0.795 to 0.629 for the affective, and from 0.801 to 0.811 for the sensory, as well as for the total score from 0.880 to 0.815. Adequate test-retest reliability by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were shown in the cognitive 0.712 (95% CI 0.636 to 0.775), the affective 0.929 (95% CI 0.906 to 0.946), the sensory 0.753 (95% CI 0.685 to 0.808), and the total score 0.932 (95% CI 0.910 to 0.948). Adequate item-total correlations were shown for the cognitive from 0.848 to 0.825, the affective from 0.918 to 0.908, and the sensory from 0.943 to 0.855. LIMITATIONS: The original ROFPAQ with 39 items was developed from a podiatry department of the health care national service of the United Kingdom. CONCLUSIONS: The ROFPAQ-C can be used as a valid and reliable tool for chronic foot pain in the Chinese population.
