Aeromonas hydrophila, a prevalent pathogen in the aquaculture industry, poses significant challenges due to its drug-resistant strains. Moreover, residues of antibiotics like streptomycin, extensively employed in aquaculture settings, drive selective bacterial evolution, leading to the progressive development of resistance to this agent. However, the underlying mechanism of its intrinsic adaptation to antibiotics remains elusive. Here, we employed a quantitative proteomics approach to investigate the differences in protein expression between A. hydrophila under streptomycin (SM) stress and nonstress conditions. Notably, bioinformatics analysis unveiled the potential involvement of metal pathways, including metal cluster binding, iron-sulfur cluster binding, and transition metal ion binding, in influencing A. hydrophila's resistance to SM. Furthermore, we evaluated the sensitivity of eight gene deletion strains related to streptomycin and observed the potential roles of petA and AHA_4705 in SM resistance. Collectively, our findings enhance the understanding of A. hydrophila's response behavior to streptomycin stress and shed light on its intrinsic adaptation mechanism.

Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is a condition that causes kidney damage in patients receiving angiography with iodine-based contrast agents. This study investigated the potential protective effects of berberine (BBR) against CIN and its underlying mechanisms. The researchers conducted both in vivo and in vitro experiments to explore BBR's renal protective effects. In the in vivo experiments, SD rats were used to create a CIN model, and different groups were established. The results showed that CIN model group exhibited impaired renal function, severe damage to renal tubular cells and increased apoptosis and ferroptosis. However, BBR treatment group demonstrated improved renal function, decreased apoptosis and ferroptosis. Similar results were observed in the in vitro experiments using HK-2 cells. BBR reduced ioversol-induced apoptosis and ferroptosis, and exerted its protective effects through Akt/Foxo3a/Nrf2 signalling pathway. BBR administration increased the expression of Foxo3a and Nrf2 while decreasing the levels of p-Akt and p-Foxo3a. In conclusion, this study revealed that BBR effectively inhibited ioversol-induced apoptosis and ferroptosis in vivo and in vitro. The protective effects of BBR were mediated through the modulation of Akt/Foxo3a/Nrf2 signalling pathway, leading to the alleviation of CIN. These findings suggest that BBR may have therapeutic potential for protecting against CIN in patients undergoing angiography with iodine-based contrast agents.

BACKGROUND: Calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) is characterized by a phenotypic switch of valvular interstitial cells to bone-forming cells. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are evolutionarily conserved pattern recognition receptors at the interface between innate immunity and tissue repair. Type I interferons (IFNs) are not only crucial for an adequate antiviral response but also implicated in bone formation. We hypothesized that the accumulation of endogenous TLR3 ligands in the valvular leaflets may promote the generation of osteoblast-like cells through enhanced type I IFN signaling. METHODS: Human valvular interstitial cells isolated from aortic valves were challenged with mechanical strain or synthetic TLR3 agonists and analyzed for bone formation, gene expression profiles, and IFN signaling pathways. Different inhibitors were used to delineate the engaged signaling pathways. Moreover, we screened a variety of potential lipids and proteoglycans known to accumulate in CAVD lesions as potential TLR3 ligands. Ligand-receptor interactions were characterized by in silico modeling and verified through immunoprecipitation experiments. Biglycan (Bgn), Tlr3, and IFN-α/ß receptor alpha chain (Ifnar1)-deficient mice and a specific zebrafish model were used to study the implication of the biglycan (BGN)-TLR3-IFN axis in both CAVD and bone formation in vivo. Two large-scale cohorts (GERA [Genetic Epidemiology Research on Adult Health and Aging], n=55 192 with 3469 aortic stenosis cases; UK Biobank, n=257 231 with 2213 aortic stenosis cases) were examined for genetic variation at genes implicated in BGN-TLR3-IFN signaling associating with CAVD in humans. RESULTS: Here, we identify TLR3 as a central molecular regulator of calcification in valvular interstitial cells and unravel BGN as a new endogenous agonist of TLR3. Posttranslational BGN maturation by xylosyltransferase 1 (XYLT1) is required for TLR3 activation. Moreover, BGN induces the transdifferentiation of valvular interstitial cells into bone-forming osteoblasts through the TLR3-dependent induction of type I IFNs. It is intriguing that Bgn-/-, Tlr3-/-, and Ifnar1-/- mice are protected against CAVD and display impaired bone formation. Meta-analysis of 2 large-scale cohorts with >300 000 individuals reveals that genetic variation at loci relevant to the XYLT1-BGN-TLR3-interferon-α/ß receptor alpha chain (IFNAR) 1 pathway is associated with CAVD in humans. CONCLUSIONS: This study identifies the BGN-TLR3-IFNAR1 axis as an evolutionarily conserved pathway governing calcification of the aortic valve and reveals a potential therapeutic target to prevent CAVD.

Chiral alkyl amines are common structural motifs in pharmaceuticals, natural products, synthetic intermediates, and bioactive molecules. An attractive method to prepare these molecules is the asymmetric radical hydroamination; however, this approach has not been explored with dialkyl amine-derived nitrogen-centered radicals since designing a catalytic system to generate the aminium radical cation, to suppress deleterious side reactions such as α-deprotonation and H atom abstraction, and to facilitate enantioselective hydrogen atom transfer is a formidable task. Herein, we describe the application of photoenzymatic catalysis to generate and harness the aminium radical cation for asymmetric intermolecular hydroamination. In this reaction, the flavin-dependent ene-reductase photocatalytically generates the aminium radical cation from the corresponding hydroxylamine and catalyzes the asymmetric intermolecular hydroamination to furnish the enantioenriched tertiary amine, whereby enantioinduction occurs through enzyme-mediated hydrogen atom transfer. This work highlights the use of photoenzymatic catalysis to generate and control highly reactive radical intermediates for asymmetric synthesis, addressing a long-standing challenge in chemical synthesis.

Dissolving the lipid droplets in tissue section with alcohol during a hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stain causes the tumor cells to appear like clear soap bubbles under a microscope, which is a key pathological feature of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Mitochondrial dynamics have been reported to be closely associated with lipid metabolism and tumor development. However, the relationship between mitochondrial dynamics and lipid metabolism reprogramming in ccRCC remains to be further explored. We conducted bioinformatics analysis to identify key genes regulating mitochondrial dynamics differentially expressed between tumor and normal tissues and immunohistochemistry and Western blot to confirm. After the target was identified, we created stable ccRCC cell lines to test the impact of the target gene on mitochondrial morphology, tumorigenesis in culture cells and xenograft models, and profiles of lipid metabolism. It was found that mitofusin 2 (MFN2) was downregulated in ccRCC tissues and associated with poor prognosis in patients with ccRCC. MFN2 suppressed mitochondrial fragmentation, proliferation, migration, and invasion of ccRCC cells and growth of xenograft tumors. Furthermore, MFN2 impacted lipid metabolism and reduced the accumulation of lipid droplets in ccRCC cells. MFN2 suppressed disease progression and improved prognosis for patients with ccRCC possibly by interrupting cellular lipid metabolism and reducing accumulation of lipid droplets.

PURPOSE: To investigate the performance of 10 MHz ultrasonography in detecting posterior lens capsule defects before traumatic cataract surgery. METHODS: This retrospective analysis includes patients with traumatic cataracts who underwent cataract surgery. Preoperative 10 MHz ultrasonography was performed to evaluate whether the posterior lens capsule was defective or intact, and the results were compared to the intraoperative findings. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, accuracy, and kappa were calculated. RESULTS: The study included 140 eyes of 140 patients. There were 68 eyes with closed-globe injuries and 72 eyes with open-globe injuries. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, accuracy, and kappa of 10 MHz ultrasonography was 86.76%, 90.28%, 89.39%, 87.84%, 88.57% and 0.771, respectively. The accuracy was 86.11% and 91.18% in open-globe and closed-globe injury groups, respectively. CONCLUSION: The accuracy of 10 MHz ultrasonography in evaluating the posterior lens capsule in traumatic cataracts is high. Preoperative 10 MHz ultrasonography would help to make an appropriate surgical plan.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the outcomes and prognostic factors of pars plana vitrectomy combined with subretinal injection of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator for submacular hemorrhage (SMH) patients with or without vitreous hemorrhage (VH). METHODS: Sixty-four eyes of 64 patients with SMH underwent pars plana vitrectomy with subretinal injection of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator. Best-corrected visual acuity, SMH displacement, and postoperative complications were analyzed. Predictive factors of the final best-corrected visual acuity were determined using multivariant linear regression. RESULTS: There were 26 eyes with VH and 38 eyes without VH best-corrected visual acuity significantly improved in both VH group (from 2.27 ± 0.40 to 1.25 ± 0.70 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution) and non-VH group (from 1.76 ± 0.55 to 0.85 ± 0.65 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution). Complete displacement of SMHs was observed in 47 (73.43%) eyes. Postoperative complications included recurrent SMH (4.69%), recurrent VH (10.94%), rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (3.13%), and epiretinal membrane (4.68%). Treatment-naive condition, early surgery, and younger age were significantly associated with better final best-corrected visual acuity ( B = 0.502, 0.303, and 0.021, respectively, with all P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Pars plana vitrectomy combined with subretinal recombinant tissue plasminogen activator injection is an effective treatment for SMH patients with and without VH.

Optic neuropathies are leading causes of irreversible visual impairment and blindness, currently affecting more than 100 million people worldwide. Glaucoma is a group of optic neuropathies attributed to progressive degeneration of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). We have previously demonstrated an increase in survival of RGCs by the activation of macrophages, whereas the inhibition of macrophages was involved in the alleviation on endotoxin-induced inflammation by antagonist of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Herein, we hypothesized that GHRH receptor (GHRH-R) signaling could be involved in the survival of RGCs mediated by inflammation. We found the expression of GHRH-R in RGCs of adult rat retina. After optic nerve crush, subcutaneous application of GHRH agonist MR-409 or antagonist MIA-602 promoted the survival of RGCs. Both the GHRH agonist and antagonist increased the phosphorylation of Akt in the retina, but only agonist MR-409 promoted microglia activation in the retina. The antagonist MIA-602 reduced significantly the expression of inflammation-related genes Il1b, Il6, and Tnf Moreover, agonist MR-409 further enhanced the promotion of RGC survival by lens injury or zymosan-induced macrophage activation, whereas antagonist MIA-602 attenuated the enhancement in RGC survival. Our findings reveal the protective effect of agonistic analogs of GHRH on RGCs in rats after optic nerve injury and its additive effect to macrophage activation, indicating a therapeutic potential of GHRH agonists for the protection of RGCs against optic neuropathies especially in glaucoma.

In hospitals, contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) is a major cause of renal failure. This study evaluates berberine's (BBR) renal protection and its potential HDAC4 mechanism. CI-AKI in rats was induced with 10 mL kg-1 ioversol. Rats were divided into five groups: Ctrl, BBR, CI-AKI, CI-AKI + BBR, and CI-AKI + Tasq. The renal function of CI-AKI rats was determined by measuring serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen. Histopathological changes and apoptosis of renal tubular epithelial cells were observed by HE and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdTase)-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining. Transmission electron microscopy was used to observe autophagic structures. In vitro, a CI-AKI cell model was created with ioversol-treated HK-2 cells. Treatments included BBR, Rapa, HCQ, and Tasq. Analyses focused on proteins and genes associated with kidney injury, apoptosis, autophagy, and the HDAC4-FoxO3a axis. BBR showed significant protective effects against CI-AKI both in vivo and in vitro. It inhibited apoptosis by increasing Bcl-2 protein levels and decreasing Bax levels. BBR also activated autophagy, as indicated by changes in autophagy-related proteins and autophagic flux. The study further revealed that the contrast agent ioversol increased the expression of HDAC4, which led to elevated levels of phosphorylated FoxO3a (p-FoxO3a) and acetylated FoxO3a (Ac-FoxO3a). However, BBR inhibited HDAC4 expression, resulting in decreased levels of p-FoxO3a and Ac-FoxO3a. This activation of autophagy-related genes, regulated by the transcription factor FoxO3a, played a role in BBR's protective effects. BBR, a traditional Chinese medicine, shows promise against CI-AKI. It may counteract CI-AKI by modulating HDAC4 and FoxO3a, enhancing autophagy, and limiting apoptosis.

BACKGROUND: There are limited studies that explored the preparation and challenges faced by standardized patients (SPs) in portraying characters in difficult communication scenarios, and the strategies used to overcome these challenges. The purpose of this study was to understand the experience of SPs in interpreting difficult communication situations and the learning needs of performing similar scenarios. And it allows the researchers to explore the meaning, beliefs, values, and aspiration associated with their role as SPs. The findings could shade light on the significance of their experiences and provide valuable insights for the development of future SP training programs. METHODS: The design of this study is framed by a narrative inquiry, using semi-structured guidelines to conduct in-depth interviews with 11 SPs who have participated in the performances of difficult communication situations. Research data were analyzed by Polkinghorne narrative analysis, and Riessman's four criteria were used to establish rigor. RESULTS: Analysis revealed the following five themes: scenarios to real life connections, process of preparing for a performance, methods to detach from character, obtaining unexpected rewards, and needs for performance training. There are two to three subthemes that are subsumed under each theme. CONCLUSIONS: To strengthen training in difficult communication for healthcare professionals, the use of SPs to interpret challenging difficult communication scenarios will continue to increase. Educators need to ensure that SPs are fully prepared physically and emotionally before, during and after their performance. Offering of continuing education and training in feedback techniques are crucial to extend the tenure of SPs, reduce their frustration, prevent attrition, and ultimately, reduce training costs. In the future, SP training should also include detachment and feedback techniques to alleviate SPs' stress.

Virus infections cause devastative economic losses for various plant species, and early diagnosis and prevention are the most effective strategies to avoid the losses. Exploring virus genomic evolution and constructing virus infectious cDNA clones is essential to achieve a deeper understanding of the interaction between host plant and virus. Therefore, this work aims to guide people to better prevent, control, and utilize the youcai mosaic virus (YoMV). Here, the YoMV was found to infect the Solanum nigrum under natural conditions. Then, an infectious cDNA clone of YoMV was successfully constructed using triple-shuttling vector-based yeast recombination. Furthermore, we established phylogenetic trees based on the complete genomic sequences, the replicase gene, movement protein gene, and coat protein gene using the corresponding deposited sequences in NCBI. Simultaneously, the evolutionary relationship of the YoMV discovered on S. nigrum to others was determined and analyzed. Moreover, the constructed cDNA infectious clone of YoMV from S. nigrum could systematically infect the Nicotiana benthamiana and S. nigrum by agrobacterium-mediated infiltration. Our investigation supplied a reverse genetic tool for YoMV study, which will also contribute to in-depth study and profound understanding of the interaction between YoMV and host plant.

Analyzing and characterizing the differences between networks is a fundamental and challenging problem in network science. Most previous network comparison methods that rely on topological properties have been restricted to measuring differences between two undirected networks. However, many networks, such as biological networks, social networks, and transportation networks, exhibit inherent directionality and higher-order attributes that should not be ignored when comparing networks. Therefore, we propose a motif-based directed network comparison method that captures local, global, and higher-order differences between two directed networks. Specifically, we first construct a motif distribution vector for each node, which captures the information of a node's involvement in different directed motifs. Then, the dissimilarity between two directed networks is defined on the basis of a matrix, which is composed of the motif distribution vector of every node and the Jensen-Shannon divergence. The performance of our method is evaluated via the comparison of six real directed networks with their null models, as well as their perturbed networks based on edge perturbation. Our method is superior to the state-of-the-art baselines and is robust with different parameter settings.

PURPOSE: This study aims to introduce the coefficient of spatial variance of choroidal thickness to describe the choroidal variation and investigate its associated factors in healthy eyes. METHODS: This retrospective cross-sectional study included 1031 eyes from 1031 subjects who received a swept-source optical coherence tomography examination. The mean choroidal thickness in the macular 6 × 6 mm region and 900 subregions of 0.2 × 0.2 mm were computed using the embedded algorithm. Before analysis, potential segmentation and magnification errors were corrected. The coefficient of spatial variance was defined as the standard deviation divided by the mean (multiplied by 100%) of the choroidal thicknesses across 900 grids. Potential factors associated with the coefficient of spatial variance were assessed using multiple linear regression. RESULTS: The mean choroidal thickness of the entire 6 × 6 mm macular region was 204.50 ± 72.88 µm. The mean coefficient of spatial variance was 26.58 ± 8.24%, ranging from 11.00 to 61.58%. Statistical analysis revealed that the means choroidal thickness (ß = - 0.08, R2 = 0.42, p < 0.001) and anterior chamber depth (ß = - 2.39, R2 = 0.05, p = 0.06) were associated with the coefficient of spatial variance. CONCLUSION: Our study first incorporated the coefficient of spatial variance to represent the spatial variation of the choroidal thickness and observed that the greater thinning of the choroid is correlated with a more pronounced spatial variation.

BACKGROUND/AIM: To assess the refractive outcomes of secondary intraocular lenses (IOL) in patients with traumatic aphakic eyes with corneal penetrating injury and compare different corneal curvature measurement methods. METHODS: Patients with unilateral penetrating eye injuries underwent corneal wound repair and cataract extraction, followed by secondary IOL implantation. Corneal curvature measurements were taken on the contralateral healthy eye (Group A), from the affected eye before removing corneal sutures (Group B), or after suture removal (Group C). The refractive outcomes were compared among the three groups. RESULTS: The study included 261 eyes. The Mean Absolute Error (MAE) in Group C (0.99 ± 0.85 D) was significantly smaller than that in Group A (1.87 ± 1.71 D) and Group B (1.37 ± 1.20 D) (both P < 0.001). Moreover, the percentage of eyes with IOL prediction errors within ± 0.50 D in Group C (40%) was higher than that in group A (21.7%) (OR = 2.364, 95%CI: 1.272-4.392, P = 0.006) and group B (28.0%) (OR = 1.714, 95%CI: 0.948-3.099, P = 0.073), and the percentage of eyes with IOL prediction errors within ± 1.0 D in Group C (90.9%) was higher than that in group A (67.9%) (OR = 4.758, 95%CI: 2.131-10.626, P < 0.001) and group B (75.0%) (OR = 3.370, 95%CI: 1.483-7.660, P = 0.003) as well. CONCLUSIONS: In traumatic aphakic eyes with corneal sutures, IOL power calculation based on the corneal curvature of the injured eye after removing the corneal sutures yields the best refractive outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Cataract is the leading cause of blindness worldwide and surgery can restore vision in most patients. Some patients have little access to surgical services due to lack of cataract surgeons and the unaffordable costs. In 2005 we built a service model that trained rural non-ophthalmologist physicians to perform cataract surgeries in rural China. This study evaluates the long-term impacts of this model. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study to analyze patients' hand-written medical records and electronic outpatient record between January 2005 and December 2019 at two rural health clinics in Southern China. RESULTS: In total, 34,601 patients (49,942 eyes) underwent cataract surgery by non-ophthalmologist physicians from 2005 to 2019.Visual acuity was clearly documented in 38,251 eyes. Before surgery, the unaided distance visual acuity (UDVA) of 60.7% (23,205/38,251) eyes was less than 0.05 decimal. On the first day after surgery, the percentage of UDVA < 0.05 eyes was reduced to 6.0%, and 96.7% (36,980/38,251) of the eyes achieved a better UDVA compared to pre-operation. Surgical-related complications occurred in 218 eyes. The most common complication was posterior capsule rupture (114, 0.23%). 44.3% (15,341/34,601) of the patients chose to have a second eye cataract surgery (SECS) in the same clinic. At one of the outpatient clinics, 21,595 patients received basic eye care apart from cataract surgery between 2018 and 2020. CONCLUSIONS: Non-ophthalmologist physicians trained for cataract surgeries in rural clinics can improve cataract related visual acuity and basic eye care to the local population.

Interfacial engineering of perovskite films has been the main strategies in improving the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). In this study, three new donor-acceptor (D-A)-type interfacial dipole (DAID) molecules with hole-transporting and different anchoring units are designed and employed in PSCs. The formation of interface dipoles by the DAID molecules on the perovskite film can efficiently modulate the energy level alignment, improve charge extraction, and reduce non-radiative recombination. Among the three DAID molecules, TPA-BAM with amide group exhibits the best chemical and optoelectrical properties, achieving a champion PCE of 25.29 % with the enhanced open-circuit voltage of 1.174 V and fill factor of 84.34 %, due to the reduced defect density and improved interfacial hole extraction. Meanwhile, the operational stability of the unencapsulated device has been significantly improved. Our study provides a prospect for rationalized screening of interfacial dipole materials for efficient and stable PSCs.

BACKGROUND: The identification of genomic regions affected by selection is one of the most important goals in population genetics. If temporal data are available, allele frequency changes at SNP positions are often used for this purpose. Here we provide a new testing approach that uses haplotype frequencies instead of allele frequencies. RESULTS: Using simulated data, we show that compared to SNP based test, our approach has higher power, especially when the number of candidate haplotypes is small or moderate. To improve power when the number of haplotypes is large, we investigate methods to combine them with a moderate number of haplotype subsets. Haplotype frequencies can often be recovered with less noise than SNP frequencies, especially under pool sequencing, giving our test an additional advantage. Furthermore, spurious outlier SNPs may lead to false positives, a problem usually not encountered when working with haplotypes. Post hoc tests for the number of selected haplotypes and for differences between their selection coefficients are also provided for a better understanding of the underlying selection dynamics. An application on a real data set further illustrates the performance benefits. CONCLUSIONS: Due to less multiple testing correction and noise reduction, haplotype based testing is able to outperform SNP based tests in terms of power in most scenarios.

Contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI), also known as contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN), has become the third leading cause of iatrogenic AKI. Serum creatinine (Scr) is currently used in CIN clinical diagnosis. Patients with increased Scr have developed severe kidney injury, so there is an urgent need to find a bio-marker for CIN early diagnosis. To investigate the changes in circulating microRNA-188-5p (miR-188-5p) after coronary angiography and its predictive value for the CIN occurrence, miR-188-5p expression in CIN rats from the GEO database and CIN patients and control patients from Lianshui People's Hospital was analyzed. The results showed that miR-188-5p expression in plasma and renal was higher in CIN group than in control group. Further, a total of 36 CIN patients and 108 non-CIN patients were included. There were significant differences in age, hypertension, diabetes, and contrast agent dosage. After 12 h of contrast agent application, circulating miR-188-5p expression in CIN group was higher than control group. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age, hypertension, diabetes, contrast media dosage and postoperative miR-188-5p expression were closely related to CIN occurrence. For in vitro experiments, intracellular miR-188-5p expression was decreased with ioversol treatment, while miR-188-5p expression in supernatant was increased. To explore the potential mechanism of miR-188-5p in CIN, HK-2 cells were treated with NC mimic, ioversol, or miR-188-5p mimic. The results showed that the application of miR-188-5p mimic reduced apoptosis, reactive oxygen species and MDA, enhanced SOD and GSH contents. Further, it was confirmed that mRNA and protein levels of PTEN were up-regulated in ioversol-treated HK-2 cells, and down-regulated after miR-188-5p administration. Dual-luciferase reporter gene assay confirmed that PTEN was direct target gene of miR-188-5p. Above results suggest that circulating miR-188-5p has the potential to serve as a predictor of CIN.

The design of nanocomposites as a light-capturing system applied in photocatalytic water splitting is an emerging area of research. In our study, a simple in situ photodeposition method was proposed for the synthesis of CdS nanoflowers modified by nickel-based bifunctional, i.e., Ni/Ni(OH)2, cocatalysts. The introduction of cocatalysts has demonstrated a notable enhancement in the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution efficiency of CdS. The quantity of cocatalysts supported on CdS played an important role in governing the light absorption capability and photocatalytic efficacy. Ni-CdS-10 showed the best photocatalytic activity of 30.51 mmol g-1 h-1, which was 1.8 times and 2.6 times higher activity than Pt-CdS-1 wt % and pure CdS, respectively. Mechanism studies with UV-vis DRS, photoluminescence, and Mott-Schottky plots revealed the intrinsic electric field created at the p-n Ni(OH)2/CdS junctions, which can effectively implement the transport and separation of photoinduced carriers. From linear sweep voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and DFT calculation, both Ni(OH)2 and Ni can effectively decrease the Gibbs free energies of hydrogen adsorption and reduce the overpotential of hydrogen evolution. As a result, the efficiency of generating H2 through photocatalysis experienced significant improvement, and the participation of bifunctional cocatalysts further reduced the photocorrosion of CdS, enhanced stability, improved low price, and efficient photocatalyst production.

A5M2X11 and A3M2X9 families (A = monovalent organic cation; M = trivalent metal; X = halogen) are receiving increasing attention because of their combination of easy solution processability and superior ferroelectricity properties. However, synthesizing highly efficient A5M2X11 and A3M2X9-type fluorophores with multiple monomeric inorganic units and achieving their structural interconversion remains challenging. Here, we report two novel zero-dimensional (0D) antimony halides, (C10H16N)5Sb2Cl11·C2H3N (1) and (C10H16N)3Sb2Cl9 (2), which not only contain two distinct [SbXn]3-n units but also have excellent orange (590 nm) and yellow-green emission (540 nm) with high PLQY of 17.7% and 31.5%, respectively. Interestingly, a reversible structural conversion could be triggered by acetonitrile steam stimulation, accompanied by luminescence switching properties. This work not only enriches the structure of hybrid Sb-based halides but also provides the possibility of well-known A5M2X11 and A3M2X9 families as structural transformation materials.
