RESUMEN

Plasmonic superstructures hold great potential in encrypted information chips but are still unsatisfactory in terms of resolution and maneuverability because of the limited fabrication strategies. Here, we develop an antielectric potential method in which the interfacial energy from the modification of 5-amino-2-mercapto benzimidazole (AMBI) ligand is used to overcome the electric resistance between the Au nanospheres (NSs) and substrate, thereby realizing the in situ growth of a Au-Ag heterodimers array in large scale. The morphology, number, and size of Ag domains on Au units can be controlled well by modulating the reaction kinetics and thermodynamics. Experiments and theoretical simulations reveal that patterned 3D Au-2D Ag and 3D Au-3D Ag dimer arrays with line widths of 400 nm exhibit cerulean and cyan colors, respectively, and achieve fine color modulation and ultrahigh information resolution. This work not only develops a facile strategy for fabricating patterned plasmonic superstructures but also pushes the plasmon-based high-resolution encrypted information chip into more complex applications.

Recurrent MEF2D fusions with poor prognosis have been identified in B-cell precursor ALL (BCP-ALL). The molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenic function of MEF2D fusions are poorly understood. Here, we show that MEF2D-HNRNPUL1 (MH) knock-in mice developed a progressive disease from impaired B-cell development at the pre-pro-B stage to pre-leukemia over 10 to 12 months. When cooperating with NRASG12D, MH drove an outbreak of BCP-ALL, with a more aggressive phenotype than the NRASG12D-induced leukemia. RNA-sequencing identified key networks involved in disease mechanisms. In chromatin immunoprecipitation-sequencing experiments, MH acquired increased chromatin-binding ability, mostly through MEF2D-responsive element (MRE) motifs in target genes, compared with wild-type MEF2D. Using X-ray crystallography, the MEF2D-MRE complex was characterized in atomic resolution, whereas disrupting the MH-DNA interaction alleviated the aberrant target gene expression and the B-cell differentiation arrest. The C-terminal moiety (HNRNPUL1 part) of MH was proven to contribute to the fusion protein's trans-regulatory activity, cofactor recruitment, and homodimerization. Furthermore, targeting MH-driven transactivation of the HDAC family by using the histone deacetylase inhibitor panobinostat in combination with chemotherapy improved the overall survival of MH/NRASG12D BCP-ALL mice. Altogether, these results not only highlight MH as an important driver in leukemogenesis but also provoke targeted intervention against BCP-ALL with MEF2D fusions.

Railway Point Machine (RPM) is a fundamental component of railway infrastructure and plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe operation of trains. Its primary function is to divert trains from one track to another, enabling connections between different lines and facilitating route selection. By judiciously deploying turnouts, railway systems can provide efficient transportation services while ensuring the safety of passengers and cargo. As signal processing technologies develop rapidly, taking the easy acquisition advantages of audio signals, a fault diagnosis method for RPMs is proposed by considering noise and multi-channel signals. The proposed method consists of several stages. Initially, the signal is subjected to pre-processing steps, including cropping and channel separation. Subsequently, the signal undergoes noise addition using the Random Length and Dynamic Position Noises Superposition (RDS) module, followed by conversion to a greyscale image. To enhance the data, Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) module is applied. Finally, the training data is fed into a Dual-input Attention Convolutional Neural Network (DIACNN). By employing various experimental techniques and designing diverse datasets, our proposed method demonstrates excellent robustness and achieves an outstanding classification accuracy of 99.73%.

Heavy metal(loid)s contamination prevails in the water-soil-plant system around non-ferrous metal mining areas. The present study aimed to evaluate the heavy metal(loid)s contamination in Nandan Pb-Zn mining area (Guangxi, China). A total of 36 river water samples, 75 paired paddy soil and rice samples, and 128 paired upland soil and plant samples were collected from this area. The concentrations of arsenic (As), lead (Pb), and cadmium (Cd) in these samples were measured. Results showed that the average water quality indexes (WQIs) at the 12 sampling sites along the main river ranged from 41 to 5008, indicating the water qualities decreasing from "Excellent" to "Undrinkable". The WQIs nearby tailings or industrial park were significantly higher than those at the other sites. 34.0% and 64.5% of soil samples exceeded the risk screening values for As and Cd. The Pb and Cd concentrations in all rice samples exceeded the Chinese food safety limits by 18.7% and 82.7%, respectively. Leafy vegetables had a higher concentration of As, Pb, and Cd than other vegetables, exceeding the maximum permissible limits by 14.1%, 61.2%, and 40.0%, respectively. The biological accumulation coefficient (BAC) of Cd was the highest in rice and lettuce leaves. The hazard quotients (HQs) of As and Cd, indicating non-carcinogenic risks, were 4.15 and 1.76 in adult males, and 3.40 and 1.45 in adult females, all higher than the permitted level (1.0). The carcinogenic probabilities of As and Cd from rice and leafy vegetables consumption were all higher than 1 × 10-4. We conclude that metal(loid)s contamination of the water-soil-plant system has posed great non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks to the local population.

RESUMEN

XY153 is a promising BET BD2 inhibitor with an IC50 value of 0.79 nM against BRD4 BD2. It shows 354-fold selectivity over BRD4-BD1 and 6-fold selectivity over other BET BD2 domains. However, the reported synthesis route of XY153 and its derivatives are extremely poor-yielding. After the synthesis of three key fragments, XY153 can only be obtained with a yield of 1.3 % in the original four-step reaction. In this study, we reported a three-step alternative route in the synthesis process of XY153. The reaction conditions for this route were thoroughly investigated and optimized, resulting in a significantly improved yield of 61.5 %. This efficient synthesis route establishes a robust chemical foundation for the rapid synthesis of XY153 derivatives as BET BD2 inhibitors in the near future.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is a WHO grade 4 tumor and is the most malignant form of glioma. Methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase 2 (MTHFD2), a mitochondrial enzyme involved in folate metabolism, has been reported to be highly expressed in several human tumors. However, little is known about the role of MTHFD2 in GBM. In this study, we aimed to explore the biological functions of MTHFD2 in GBM and identify the associated mechanisms. We performed experiments such as immunohistochemistry, Western blot, and transwell assays and found that MTHFD2 expression was lower in high-grade glioma than in low-grade glioma. Furthermore, a high expression of MTHFD2 was associated with a favorable prognosis, and MTHFD2 levels showed good prognostic accuracy for glioma patients. The overexpression of MTHFD2 could inhibit the migration, invasion, and proliferation of GBM cells, whereas its knockdown induced the opposite effect. Mechanistically, our findings revealed that MTHFD2 suppressed GBM progression independent of its enzymatic activity, likely by inducing cytoskeletal remodeling through the regulation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) phosphorylation, thereby influencing GBM malignance. Collectively, these findings uncover a potential tumor-suppressor role of MTHFD2 in GBM cells. MTHFD2 may act as a promising diagnostic and therapeutic target for GBM treatment.

Refractory metals (W, Nb, or Mo) microalloying Pt-based alloys with unprecedented performance may serve as advanced electrocatalysts for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). These alloys are endowed with unique stabilizing substructures or lattice defects through the microalloying effect. Herein, trace W microalloying PtCuCo medium entropy alloys (W-PtCuCo) are reported via a stepwise synthesis strategy, starting with home-made Cu nanowires as sacrificial templates by anhydrous solid-phase milling route, and then followed by galvanic replacement-assisted solvothermal in ethylene glycol (EG). In PEMFC tests, the obtained W-PtCuCo exhibits an ultrahigh peak power density and mass power density (relative to cathode) reaching 2.09 W cm-2 and 20.9 W mgPt -1 , respectively. During the accelerated degradation test (ADT), the mass activity just lost only 3% after 30 k cycles, much better than the above benchmark catalyst. The microalloying-dependent performances shall be attributed to the presence of abundant stepped surfaces, twisted edges, and other lattice defects terminated by W via substructure reconstruction that indeed alters the electronic structure and strain level of the alloys. This work first provides an atomic-level insight into the microalloying-dependent electrocatalytic performance of Pt-based alloys, which is of great significance for developing next-generation efficient catalysts for PEMFC.

Diamagnetically levitated micro-nano oscillators play a crucial role in fundamental physics research and the advancement of high-precision sensors. Achieving high sensitivity in acceleration or force sensing is a fundamental requirement within these research domains. The primary limitation in achieving such sensitivity is thermal noise, which is directly proportional to the motion damping of the oscillator. Theoretical modeling suggests the presence of significant damping mechanisms induced by eddy currents. In this study, we validated the theoretical model by optimizing the structure of the magnet trap, confirming the impact of eddy currents on the damping of the oscillators. Additionally, we observed another type of damping caused by static charge in moving levitated dielectrics. Subsequently, we proposed an innovative theoretical model to explain this phenomenon and verified its validity during the charge neutralization process. Through these efforts, we successfully reduced the total damping from 1.6 mHz to 0.15 mHz, resulting in an order of magnitude improvement in performance. Our sensing system achieved the highest sensitivity of acceleration sensing in diamagnetically levitated submillimeter-scale dielectric to date, measuring 7.6±0.8)×10-10g/Hz. The exploration conducted in this study regarding the analysis and suppression of electromagnetic damping, along with associated thermal noise, holds significant promise for frontier research involving sensing with levitating dielectrics.

We report an unexpected experimental observation in rotation-resolved N2+ lasing that the R-branch lasing intensity from a single rotational state in the vicinity of 391 nm can be greatly stronger than the P-branch lasing intensity summing over the total rotational states at suitable pressures. According to a combined measurement of the dependence of the rotation-resolved lasing intensity on the pump-probe delay and the rotation-resolved polarization, we speculate that the destructive interference can be induced for the spectrally-indistinguishable P-branch lasing due to the propagation effect while the R-branch lasing is little affected due to its discrete spectral property, after precluding the role of rotational coherence. These findings shed light on the air-lasing physics, and provide a feasible route to manipulate air lasing intensity.

Optical metasurfaces have shown great potential for revolutionizing wave plates by enabling compact footprints and diversified functionalities. However, most metasurface wave plates (meta-WPs) are typically passive, featuring defined responses after fabrication, whereas dynamic meta-WPs have so far often been limited to ON and OFF states. Here, we design a dynamic dual-functional meta-WP based on judiciously designed low-loss Sb2Se3 meta-molecules at the telecom wavelength of 1.55 µm which enables reconfigurable linear-to-circular and linear-to-linear polarization conversion for orthogonal linear polarizations when Sb2Se3 transits between amorphous and crystalline states. In addition, a comprehensive electro-thermal simulation is carried out to verify the phase change process for realistic implementation. The designed dynamic dual-functional wave plate may open new avenues for developing integrated adaptive photonics with dynamic and multiplexed functionalities.

The common human coronaviruses (HCoVs) HCoV-229E, HCoV-OC43, HCoV-NL63, and HCoV-HKU1 which are members of the coronavirus family are long co-existed with humans and widely distributed globally. Common HCoVs usually cause mild, self-limited upper respiratory tract infections (URTI), and also associated with lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI), especially in children. However, there are little multicentre studies have been conducted in children of several different areas in China, and the epidemic potential of common HCoVs remains unclear. Understanding of the common HCoVs is valuable for clinical and public health. Herein, we retrospectively analysed the medical records of children with acute lower respiratory tract infection admitted to 9 hospitals from different regions in China from 2014 to 2019. Of the 124 patients who tested positive for coronaviruses, OC43 was the predominant type, accounting for 36.3% (45/124) of the detections. Children aged ≤ 6 months and 12-23 months had the highest detection rate of common HCoVs, and the detection rate gradually declined after 2 years old. These four HCoVs could be detected all year round. Among the areas of our study, the overall positive rate was higher in southern China, especially in Guangzhou (29/124, 23.4%). Moreover, common HCoV-positive patients were codetected with 9 other common respiratory pathogens. 229E (11/13, 84.6%) was the most frequently associated with codetection, with EV/RhV was the most frequently codetected virus. Cough (113/124, 91.1%) and fever (73/124, 58.9%) were the most common symptoms of common HCoVs infection.

Whiplash injury is common in traffic accidents, and severe whiplash is characterized by cervical spinal cord injuries with cervical dislocation or fracture, that can be diagnosed by postmortem computed tomography (PMCT), postmortem magnetic resonance (PMMR), or conventional autopsy. However, for cervical spinal cord injury without fracture and dislocation, PMMR can be more informative because it provides higher resolution of soft tissues. We report the case of a 29-year-old male who died immediately following a traffic accident, in which the vehicle hit an obstacle at a high speed, causing deformation of the bumper and severe damage of the vehicle body. PMCT indicated no significant injuries or diseases related to death, but PMMR showed patchy abnormal signals in the medulla oblongata, and the lower edge of the cerebellar tonsil was herniated out of the foramen magnum. The subsequent pathological and histological results confirmed that death was caused by medulla oblongata contusion combined with cerebellar tonsillar herniation. Our description of this case of a rare but fatal whiplash injury in which there was no fracture or dislocation provides a better understanding of the potentially fatal consequences of cervical spinal cord whiplash injury without fracture or dislocation and of the underlying lethal mechanisms. Compared with PMCT, PMMR provides important diagnostic information in forensic practice for the identification of soft tissue injuries, and is therefore an important imaging modality for diagnosis of whiplash injury when there is no fracture or dislocation.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore the 5Ts teach-back(5Ts) to improve oral nutritional supplements (ONS) compliance of discharged patients after gastric cancer surgery. SETTING AND METHODS: Patients were recruited from the Bethune First Hospital of Jilin University. The patients were randomly assigned to 5Ts (n = 54) and routine health education (n = 54). Weekly ONS compliance was collected by "weekly ONS diary." ONS knowledge, health literacy, and health education satisfaction were collected at baseline and 5 weeks after discharge. Chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U test, and T test were used for data analysis. RESULTS: At the end of the intervention, there were 41 and 40 patients in intervention and control group. 5Ts significantly improve ONS compliance, ONS knowledge level (P = 0.000), health literacy level (P = 0.011), and health education satisfaction (P = 0.009) of patients. At the end of follow-up, there were 30 and 27 patients in two groups, and no significant difference in ONS compliance (P = 0.728). CONCLUSION: The 5Ts can significantly improve patients' ONS compliance and the effect of health education. BACKGROUND: Oligometastases are limited in number and extent, and therefore, are amenable to locoregional therapy. OBJECTIVE: To analyze recurrence patterns, survival outcomes, and prognostic factors in patients with cervical cancer receiving locoregional therapy for oligometastases. METHODS: The included patients had 1-3 extracranial oligometastases and received definitive radiotherapy, surgery, or ablation at a single institution between January 2007 and May 2022. Outcomes were evaluated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Prognostic factors were examined using the Cox proportional hazards model, and tumor growth rates were predicted by non-linear regression. RESULTS: We identified 56 patients who presented with an oligometastatic disease to the supraclavicular fossa (n=19), lung (n=33), or other sites (n=4). Totals of 30 (53.6%), 41 (73.2%), 47 (83.9%), and 52 (92.9%) patients were diagnosed 1, 2, 3, and 4 years after cervical cancer diagnosis, respectively. Seven patients were simultaneously treated for para-aortic or pelvic recurrences. After a median follow-up of 24 months (range 1-86), the 3-year local recurrence-free rate in patients with supraclavicular versus non-supraclavicular oligometastases was 100% vs 93.5%. The 3-year overall survival rate was 40.1% vs 55.2% (p=0.04). Ten (17.9%) patients experienced new oligometastatic progression in a median of 8 months (range 4-14). Multivariate analysis showed that tumor size was the only prognostic factor for overall survival, with a 3-year overall survival rate of 91.7% vs 21.6% (≤15 mm vs >15 mm, p<0.001). Nineteen (86.4%) of 22 lesions diagnosed within 6 months of the last negative CT scan had a maximum diameter of ≤15 mm, and the predicted interval of tumor growth to 15 mm was 5.8 months. CONCLUSION: Locoregional therapy for cervical cancer oligometastases can achieve long-term survival, especially in patients with small lesions (≤15 mm). Better follow-up mode after cervical cancer treatment and system therapy for oligometastases should be further explored.

BACKGROUND: During the COVID-19 epidemic, the prevalence of neck pain among college students has increased due to the shift from offline to online learning and increasing academic and employment pressures. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to identify the personal, occupational, and psychological factors associated with the development of neck pain to promote the development of preventive strategies and early intervention treatment. METHODS: Seven electronic databases were searched from inception to December 2022 for cross-sectional studies, cohort studies, case----control studies, and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on neck pain. The quality of the selected studies were assessed by American Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) or the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS). Pooled odds ratios (ORs) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to evaluate the effects of the included risk factors on neck pain. RESULTS: Thirty studies were included, including 18,395 participants. And a total of 33 potentially associated risk factors were identified. Ultimately, 11 risk factors were included in the meta-analysis after assessing, and all results were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The factors supported by strong evidence mainly include the improper use of the pillow (OR = 2.20, 95% CI: 1.39 to 3.48), lack of exercise (OR = 1.88, 95% CI: 1.53 to 2.30), improper sitting posture (OR = 1.97, 95% CI: 1.39 to 2.78), history of neck and shoulder trauma (OR = 2.32, 95% CI: 1.79 to 3.01), senior grade (OR = 2.86, 95% CI: 2.07 to 3.95), staying up late (OR = 1.80, 95% CI: 1.35 to 2.41), long-time electronic product usage daily (OR = 1.53, 95% CI: 1.33 to 1.76), long-time to bow head (OR = 2.04, 95% CI: 1.58 to 2.64), and emotional problems (OR = 2.09; 95% CI: 1.66  to 2.63). Risk factors supported by moderate evidence were high stress (OR = 1.61, 95% CI: 1.02 to 2.52) and female gender (OR = 1.69, 95% CI: 1.52 to 1.87). CONCLUSION: This study obtained 11 main risk factors affecting college students neck pain, including improper use of the pillow, lack of exercise, improper sitting posture, history of neck and shoulder trauma, senior grade, staying up late, long-term electronic product usage daily, long time to bow head, high stress, emotional problems and female gender.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of simultaneous resection of synchronous advanced esophageal and gastric cancers. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 16 patients who underwent resection of synchronous advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and gastric adenocarcinoma from January 2009 to Dec 2021. Subtotal esophagectomy and total gastrectomy were performed using the Ivor-Lewis or McKeown approach. Reconstruction was performed using a pedicled jejunal graft or colon interposition. Perioperative and postoperative data of all patients were analyzed. RESULTS: There were no in-hospital mortalities following surgery, but 9 patients (56.3%) suffered major perioperative complications. Comparison of the groups that received reconstruction using the jejunum and the colon indicated similar incidences of perioperative complications, overall survival, and disease-free survival. Cox regression analysis indicated that lymph node metastasis of both cancers was independent risk factor for overall survival. CONCLUSION: The existence of synchronous tumors of the esophagus and stomach is not unusual, the radical surgical treatment could be carried out whenever possible.

BACKGROUND: The injury mechanism of acromioclavicular (AC) dislocation combined with coracoid process (CP) fracture is not clear, and there is no consensus on its treatment. This study was performed to evaluate the diagnosis of CP fractures combined with AC dislocation and the effectiveness of operative treatment using a clavicular hook plate. METHODS: Eighteen patients with CP fractures combined with AC dislocation were treated with a clavicular hook plate from May 2012 to June 2021. The patients comprised 10 male and 8 female patients with an average age of 38 years (range, 16-54 years). The injury was caused by falling in 15 patients, traffic accidents in 2 patients, and falling from a height in 1 patient. The Eyres type of CP fracture was type II in 1 patient, type III in 11 patients, type IV in 3 patients, and type V in 3 patients. The Ogawa type of CP fracture was type I in 17 patients and type II in 1 patient. The Rockwood type of AC dislocation was type V in 1 patient, variation type III in 15 patients, and variation type V in 2 patients. The interval from injury to the operation was 3 days (range, 1-7 days). Postoperative complications and CP fracture healing were recorded. Functional assessment at the last follow-up was performed by an independent reviewer using the Constant score and visual analog scale score. RESULTS: All 18 patients were followed up for a mean period of 49 months (range, 12-123 months). Nine patients had acromion osteolysis and 3 patients had CP fracture nonunion (Eyres type II, III, and V in 1 patient each); however, no patients developed shoulder pain, incision infection, limitation of shoulder movement, clinical symptoms of subcoracoid impingement, or AC dislocation relapse. At the last follow-up, the mean Constant score was 99 (range, 94-100). CONCLUSIONS: The possibility of CP fracture should be considered in patients with AC dislocation to avoid a missed diagnosis. Fixation with a clavicular hook plate is a feasible treatment for CP fracture combined with AC dislocation and provides a satisfactory outcome. CP fracture healing may be related to the fracture morphology.

ABSTRACT: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is inflammation of the pancreas, which may be due to a wide variety of etiologies that share a final common pathway of premature activation of pancreatic enzymes and resultant autodigestion of pancreatic parenchyma. Acute pancreatitis is easy to diagnose clinically, with the presence of at least 2 of the 3 criteria (upper abdominal pain, serum amylase or lipase level greater than 3 times the upper limit of normal, or characteristic findings on imaging studies) of the revised Atlanta classification. However, postmortem imaging examinations of pancreatitis are extremely rare, and very few successful cases have been reported. Here, we present a case report of a single patient who underwent autopsy and postmortem imaging. Postmortem computed tomography (PMCT) and postmortem magnetic resonance imaging (PMMRI) showed peripancreatic inflammation and acute peripancreatic fluid collection in the left anterior pararenal space, which is consistent with the examination by autopsy. The advantages of PMMRI in AP have also been demonstrated. Our study also confirmed the advantage of PMCT angiography in the diagnosis of AP. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of PMCT and PMMRI combined with postmortem pathology in the diagnosis of AP.

In this paper, an adaptive and robust Kalman filter algorithm based on the maximum correntropy criterion (MCC) is proposed to solve the problem of integrated navigation accuracy reduction, which is caused by the non-Gaussian noise and time-varying noise of GPS measurement in complex environment. Firstly, the Grubbs criterion was used to remove outliers, which are contained in the GPS measurement. Then, a fixed-length sliding window was used to estimate the decay factor adaptively. Based on the fixed-length sliding window method, the time-varying noises, which are considered in integrated navigation system, are addressed. Moreover, a MCC method is used to suppress the non-Gaussian noises, which are generated with external corruption. Finally, the method, which is proposed in this paper, is verified by the designed simulation and field tests. The results show that the influence of the non-Gaussian noise and time-varying noise of the GPS measurement is detected and isolated by the proposed algorithm, effectively. The navigation accuracy and stability are improved.

Thermal insulating fibers can effectively regulate the human body temperature and decrease indoor energy consumption. However, designing super thermal insulating fibers integrating a sponge and aerogel structure based on biomass resources is still a challenge. Herein, a flow-assisted dynamic dual-cross-linking strategy is developed to realize the steady fabrication of regenerated all-cellulose graded sponge-aerogel fibers (CGFs) in a microfluidic chip. The chemically cross-linked cellulose solution is used as the core flow, which is passed through two sheath flow channels, containing either a diffusion solvent or a physical cross-linking solvent, resulting in CGFs with a porous sponge outer layer and a dense aerogel inner layer. By regulating and simulating the flow process in the microfluidic chip, CGFs with adjustable sponge thicknesses, excellent toughness (26.20 MJ m-3), and ultralow thermal conductivity (0.023 W m-1 K-1) are fabricated. This work provides a new method for fabricating graded biomass fibers and inspires attractive applications for thermal insulation in textiles.
