RESUMEN

Honey bees are a model for host-microbial interactions with experimental designs evolving towards conventionalized worker bees. Research on gut microbiome transmission and assembly has examined only a fraction of factors associated with the colony and hive environment. Here, we studied the effects of diet and social isolation on tissue-specific bacterial and fungal colonization of the midgut and two key hindgut regions. We found that both treatment factors significantly influenced early hindgut colonization explaining similar proportions of microbiome variation. In agreement with previous work, social interaction with older workers was unnecessary for core hindgut bacterial transmission. Exposure to natural eclosion and fresh stored pollen resulted in gut bacterial communities that were taxonomically and structurally equivalent to those produced in the natural colony setting. Stressed diets of no pollen or autoclaved pollen in social isolation resulted in decreased fungal abundance and bacterial diversity, and atypical microbiome structure and tissue-specific variation of functionally important core bacteria. Without exposure to the active hive environment, the abundance and strain diversity of keystone ileum species Gilliamella apicola was markedly reduced. These changes were associated with significantly larger ileum microbiotas suggesting that extended exposure to the active hive environment plays an antibiotic role in hindgut microbiome establishment. We conclude that core hindgut microbiome transmission is facultative horizontal with 5 of 6 core hindgut species readily acquired from the built hive structure and natural diet. Our findings contribute novel insights into factors influencing assembly and maintenance of honey bee gut microbiota and facilitate future experimental designs.

RESUMEN

AIM: To predict progesterone receptor (PR) expression of high-grade meningioma using radiomics based on enhanced T1-weighted imaging (WI). MATERIALS AND METHODS: There were 157 cases of high-grade meningioma in the study. Seventy-eight cases had negative expression and 79 cases had positive expression. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression were used to select the valuable features. The models were developed by naive Bayes (NB), random forest (RF), and support vector machine (SVM). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and decision curve analysis (DCA) analysis were used to assess the models. RESULTS: Nine features were selected as the valuable features using Spearman's analysis and LASSO regression. The RF and NB models achieved the same area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.75, which was higher than that of SVM (0.74). There was no significant difference among the AUCs of the three models (p>0.05). There was a larger net benefit in the RF model than the SVM and NB models across all threshold probabilities in the DCA analysis. CONCLUSION: The RF model had good performance in predicting PR expression of high-grade meningioma. PR expression evaluation for high-grade meningioma would be helpful in clinical practice.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Growth hormone-secreting pituitary adenomas (GH-PAs) with a low Knosp grade are typically associated with a good postoperative biochemical remission (BR) rate. However, a proportion of patients do not achieve remission. In this study, we aimed to investigate predictive factors of postoperative remission for lower Knosp GH-PAs. METHODS: In this retrospective study, we enrolled 140 patients who were diagnosed with lower Knosp (0-2) GH-PAs and received trans-sphenoidal surgery between December 2016 and June 2021 from the largest pituitary tumor surgery center in southern China. The univariate, binary Logistic regression, and receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analyses were employed to determine independent predictors and cutoff values of remission. The postoperative outcome was defined as remission using the 2010 consensus criteria of acromegaly. RESULTS: One hundred and thirty six patients (97.1%) achieved gross total resection. The postoperative long-term BR was 68.6%. Empty sella, tumor maximum diameter and postoperative GH levels were independent factors predicting remission. ROC revealed that postoperative 24 h GH ≤ 1.3 ng/mL and ≤ 1.23 ng/mL were valuable predictors for 3-month and long-term remission respectively, and that postoperative 3-month GH ≤ 1.6 ng/mL and tumor maximum diameter ≤ 17 mm were predictors for delayed remission. CONCLUSION: Early postoperative GH levels can be used as predictors of remission. However, BR was not associated with preoperative somatostatin analogs therapy or Knosp grade (0-2). For patients without residual tumor or recurrence and whose GH levels are slightly elevated within 1 year after surgery, adjuvant treatments may not be necessary.

RESUMEN

Perioperative organ injury is a leading risk factor for mortality in surgical patients. Given the current limitations in the timeliness and accuracy of markers for perioperative organ injury, this article proposes a comprehensive early-warning assessment system that jointly monitors the macro-circulation, micro-circulation, and mitochondrial homeostasis. Macro-circulation monitoring allows for real-time evaluation of key indicators such as blood pressure and cardiac output, while micro-circulation monitoring aids in assessing the status of microvascular perfusion. Monitoring of mitochondrial homeostasis provides timely insights into cellular energy metabolism. These three facets are interconnected and collectively determine the balance between tissue oxygenation and energy supply and demand. This article will elucidate commonly used monitoring methods and clinically valuable assessment models within this system, offering theoretical and technical guidance to deepen our understanding of the pathological processes of perioperative organ injury, enhance surgical safety and success rates, and improve patient prognosis and quality of life.

RESUMEN

We prospectively studied 17 patients with spontaneous pneumothorax or giant emphysematous bulla at Rizhao Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from October 2020 to March 2022. All patients underwent thoracoscopic interventional therapy, had experienced continued air leakage for 3 days with closed thoracic drainage postoperatively, had an unexpanded lung on CT, and/or failed to intervention with position selection combined with intra-pleural thrombin injection(referred to as "position plus1.0"). They were all treated with position selection combined with autologous blood (100 ml) and thrombin (5 000 U) intra-pleural injection(referred to as "position plus 2.0").The success rate of the "position plus 2.0" intervention was 16/17, and the recurrence rate was 3/17. There were four cases of fever, four cases of pleural effusion, one case of empyema, and no other adverse reactions. This study has shown that the "position plus 2.0" intervention is safe, effective, and simple for patient with persistent air leakage failed to intervention with"position plus 1.0" after thoracoscopic treatment of pulmonary and pleural diseases related to bulla.

RESUMEN

Objective: To examine the feasibility and surgical approach of removing type D trigeminal schwannoma through nasal cavity and nasal sinus under endoscope. Methods: Eleven patients with trigeminal schwannoma who were treated in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Qilu Hospital of Shandong University from December 2014 to August 2021 were analyzed retrospectively in this study. There were 7 males and 4 females, aged (47.5±13.5) years (range: 12 to 64 years). The neoplasm involved the pterygopalatine fossa, infratemporal fossa, ethmoidal sinus, sphenoid sinus, cavernous sinus, and middle cranial fossa. The size of tumors were between 1.6 cm×2.0 cm×2.0 cm and 5.7 cm×6.0 cm×6.0 cm. Under general anesthesia, the tumors were resected through the transpterygoid approach in 4 cases, through the prelacrimal recess approach in 4 cases, through the extended prelacrimal recess approach in 2 cases, and through the endoscopic medial maxillectomy approach in 1 case. The nasal endoscopy and imaging examination were conducted to detect whether neoplasm recurred or not, and the main clinical symptoms during follow-up. Results: All the surgical procedures were performed under endonasal endoscope, including Gross total resection in 10 patients. The tumor of a 12-year-old patient was not resected completely due to huge tumor size and limited operation space. One patient was accompanied by two other schwannomas located in the occipital region and the ipsilateral parotid gland region originating from the zygomatic branch of the facial nerve, both of which were removed concurrently. After tumor resection, the dura mater of middle cranial fossa was directly exposed in the nasal sinus in 2 cases, including 1 case accompanied by cerebrospinal fluid leakage which was reconstructed by a free mucosal flap obtained from the middle turbinate, the other case was packed by the autologous fat to protect the dura mater. The operation time was (M(IQR)) 180 (160) minutes (range: 120 to 485 minutes). No complications and deaths were observed. No recurrence was observed in the 10 patients with total tumor resection during a 58 (68) months' (range: 10 to 90 months) follow-up. No obvious change was observed in the facial appearance of all patients during the follow-up. Conclusion: Type D trigeminal schwannoma involving pterygopalatine fossa and infratemporal fossa can be removed safely through purely endoscopic endonasal approach by selecting the appropriate approach according to the size and involvement of the tumor.

RESUMEN

AIM: To compare different models in predicting meningioma grade based on enhanced T1-weighted images. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred and eighty-eight patients with meningioma were analysed retrospectively. There were 94 high-grade meningiomas which formed the high-grade group comprising 68 World Health Organization (WHO) grade II meningiomas and 26 WHO grade III meningiomas. Ninety-four low-grade meningiomas were selected randomly to form the low-grade group. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression was used to reduce the dimensions of the texture parameters. Support vector machine (SVM), decision tree (DT), conditional inference trees (CIT), random forest (RF), k-nearest neighbours (KNN), back-propagation neural network (BPNet), and Bayes were used to construct models. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and decision curve analysis (DCA) was applied and compared among different models. RESULTS: Every model performed well and had a high area under the ROC curve (AUC; all >0.80). In the seven models, the highest accuracy was obtained with SVM and KNN (0.79), the highest sensitivity was obtained with DT and Bayes (0.85), and the highest specificity was obtained with SVM and CIT (0.83). SVM and RF had the highest AUC (0.884). KNN had the largest net benefit when the threshold probability was <0.50, whereas SVM had the largest net benefit when the threshold probability was >0.50. CONCLUSIONS: Different radiomic models based on enhanced T1-weighted images can be used to predict meningioma grade. The model of SVM and KNN performed better than other models with a larger net benefit.

RESUMEN

Interstitial lung disease combined with lung cancer (ILD-LC) has attracted more and more attention. Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is an independent risk factor of lung cancer. ILD and lung cancer have common pathogenesis of promoting fibrosis and promoting cancer, so they are not only comorbidities. This review updated the epidemiology, pathogenesis and incidence and risk factors of treatment-induced acute exacerbation(including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy)in ILD-LC. The purpose is to improve the understanding, individual management and quality of life of patients in ILD-LC.

RESUMEN

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a new treatment protocol that combined "medical glue assisted argon plasma coagulation"(hereinafter called "APC plus") and "giant emphysematous bulla volume reduction"(hereinafter called "one thoracoscope plus one needle") via medical thoracoscopy on the spontaneous pneumothorax patients whose chest high resolution CT (HRCT) showed multiple subpleural bullae (SPB) and at least one SPB≥4 cm in diameter. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of 46 cases of spontaneous pneumothorax with multiple SPB(at least one SPB≥4 cm in diameter), 42 males and 4 females, aged from 31 to 79 (68.5±10.3) years, from June 2018 to December 2021 in Rizhao Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The time of air leakage discontinuance, the disappearance rate and reduction degree of target subpleural blebs one week after operation, the degree of reduction and the incidence of postoperative complications were observed. Two-year follow-up after operation was carried out to assess the recurrence rate and its short- and long-term complications. Results: Among the 46 patients, SPB disappeared or nearly disappeared in 39 cases (84.78%), decreased in number or reduced in volume in 5 cases (10.87%), and remained unchanged in 2 cases (4.35%) after the intervention of "APC Plus"; 40 patients stopped leaking within 1 week and 6 cases stopped leaking over a week. Eleven patients finished the 3-year follow-up, 13 finished 2-year follow-up and 6 finished 1-year follow-up, with only 1 relapse. No serious complications occurred in all these 46 patients. Conclusion: "APC plus" combining with "one thoracoscope plus one needle" is safe and effective in the treatment of pneumothorax patients with multiple subpleural bullae of varying sizes.

RESUMEN

AIMS: Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) has been utilized for diagnosing infectious diseases. It is a culture-free and hypothesis-free nucleic acid test for diagnosing all pathogens with known genomic sequences, including bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites. While this technique greatly expands the clinical capacity of pathogen detection, it is a second-line choice due to lengthy procedures and microbial contaminations introduced from wet-lab processes. As a result, we aimed to reduce the hands-on time and exogenous contaminations in mNGS. METHODS AND RESULTS: We developed a device (NGSmaster) that automates the wet-lab workflow, including nucleic acid extraction, PCR-free library preparation and purification. It shortens the sample-to-results time to 16 and 18·5 h for DNA and RNA sequencing respectively. We used it to test cultured bacteria for validation of the workflow and bioinformatic pipeline. We also compared PCR-free with PCR-based library prep and discovered no differences in microbial reads. Moreover we analysed results by automation and manual testing and found that automation can significantly reduce microbial contaminations. Finally, we tested artificial and clinical samples and showed mNGS results were concordant with traditional culture. CONCLUSION: NGSmaster can fulfil the microbiological diagnostic needs in a variety of sample types. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: This study opens up an opportunity of performing in-house mNGS to reduce turnaround time and workload, instead of transferring potentially contagious specimen to a third-party laboratory.

RESUMEN

Objective: To analyze the gender disparity and relevant factors of frailty in the elderly of communities in Beijing. Methods: From November 2015 to January 2016, 1 557 participants aged 60 and older in four communities of Dongcheng district in Beijing were recruited by cluster sampling. The information of demographic characteristics, social support, economic status, health status, prevalence situation, cognitive function, emotion and comprehensive assessment of the elderly were collected by a self-made questionnaire. The frailty index (FI) model was used to evaluate the frailty of the elderly. Multivariate nonconditional logistic regression model and Fairlie decomposition method were applied to analyze the relevant factors and their contribution rate to the difference between males and females. Results: The age of subjects was (74.5±8.5) years old, ranging from 60-102 years old, among which 641 were males, accounting for 41.2%. The M (Q1, Q3) of FI was 0.09 (0.06, 0.14), among which the value in males was 0.08 (0.05, 0.13), lower than females [0.10 (0.06, 0.15)] (P<0.001).The frail proportion in female was 14.9% (137/916), higher than that of male [8.4% (54/641)] (P<0.001). Multivariate nonconditional logistic regression model analysis demonstrated that common relevant factors associated with frailty in older women and men include: age ≥80 years old, marital status as not married (unmarried, separated, divorced, or widowed), living alone increased the risk of frailty; participating in group activities ≥3 times/week and exercising regularly decreased the risk of frailty (all P<0.05). Fairlie decomposition method showed that the contribution rate of life style, family support, marital status and social support were 32.21%, 15.26%, 8.23% and 4.34%, respectively (all P<0.05). Conclusions: The frailty degree and frailty proportion of elderly women in communities in Beijing were higher than those of men of the same age. The frailty gender difference was related to lifestyle, family support, marital status and social support.

RESUMEN

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of giant emphysematous bulla (GEB) volume reduction via medical thoracoscope. Methods: This was a prospective, single-arm study conducted between July 2018 and September 2020 in Ri Zhao Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Patients who met the inclusion criteria were treated with GEB volume reduction via medical thoracoscope and were followed up to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the technique. According to comparison of preoperative and postoperative chest CT results, the self-designed evaluation criteria of imaging efficacy were as follows: complete or nearly complete disappearance of GEB (GEB volume reduction ≥90%), significant reduction of GEB (75%≤GEB volume reduction<90%), reduction of GEB (50%≤GEB volume reduction<75%) and no change (GEB volume reduction<50%). Results: A total of 47 patients were included, among whom 43 were males, with an age M (Q1, Q3) of 63.0 (55.0, 67.0). The CT results showed complete or nearly complete disappearance of GEB in 43 patients, significant reduction of GEB in 3 patients and reduction of GEB in 1 patient before discharge. The degree of dyspnea improved significantly (P<0.05). Arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2) decreased from (48.2±8.4)mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) to (45.4±7.3)mmHg (P<0.05). The 6-minute walk test (6MWT) increased from (245.6±162.4)m to (283.5±152.2)m (P<0.05). Six-month postoperative follow-up was completed in 24 patients, and CT results showed that the efficacy of volume reduction was continuous compared with that before discharge. GEB was further reduced or even disappeared in 3 of the cases. Besides, the degree of dyspnea, 6MWT (384.4±148.2)m and PaCO2 (42.7±6.6)mmHg were improved significantly (P<0.05). The oxygenation index (356.86±61.21)mmHg was significantly higher than that before surgery (295.20±67.16)mmHg and before discharge (294.50±76.69)mmHg (P<0.05). No perioperative deaths occurred. Conclusions: GEB volume can be completely eliminated or significantly reduced by this innovative technique, while PaCO2, the degree of dyspnea and exercise endurance can be significantly improved after operation. The 6-month follow-up after surgery showed that the above benefits continued, and that the oxygenation index improved significantly.

RESUMEN

Objective: To explore the efficacy and safety of position selection in combination with intra-pleural thrombin injection in the treatment of persistent air leakage (PAL) after medical thoracoscopic treatment of bullous pulmonary-pleural diseases (e.g. spontaneous pneumothorax or giant emphysematous bulla). Methods: This was a prospective study conducted in Rizhao Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from August 2018 to November 2020. Twenty patients(19 males,1 female) with a mean age of (62.3±8.1) years met the diagnostic criteria for PAL which was defined as the air leak persisted more than 3 days despite of the closed thoracic drainage after medical thoracoscopic treatment of bullous pulmonary-pleural diseases. They received the following treatment procedures (referred to as "position plus"):①Pleural cavity injection (50% glucose 20 ml+thrombin 5 000 U).②Changing the patient's position under continuous negative pressure suction to find the position causing the complete stop or significant reduction of air leakage, and keeping in the position for 24-48 hours.③If the PAL wasn't stopped 48 hours later, the procedures above would be repeated. The duration of air leakage after "position plus", times of pleural cavity injection, condition of lung re-expansion, recurrence of air leakage and complications during hospitalization were recorded. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the results:¯x±s or M(P25, P75) for continuous variables; frequency and percentages for categoric variables. Results: A total of 20 patients were included. The average duration of air leakage after"position plus" was (1.32±0.97) days. The times of pleural cavity injection required were 1.0(1.0, 1.0).All the patients showed good lung re-expansion in review of imaging after PAL was stopped. One patient had recurrent air leakage during hospitalization. No serious complications occurred. Conclusion: The comprehensive "position plus" intervention method is effective, safe and easily operating for the treatment of PAL after medical thoracoscopic treatment of bullous pulmonary-pleural diseases.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To assess whether vaginal secretions and breast milk of women with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) contain severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). DESIGN: Single centre cohort study. SETTING: Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, Wuhan, Hubei province, China. POPULATION: We studied 13 SARS-CoV-2-infected pregnant women diagnosed between 31 January and 9 March 2020. METHODS: We collected clinical data, vaginal secretions, stool specimens and breast milk from SARS-CoV-2-infected women during different stages of pregnancy and collected neonatal throat and anal swabs. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: We assessed viral presence in different biosamples. RESULTS: Of the 13 women with COVID-19, five were in their first trimester, three in their second trimester and five in their third trimester. Of the five women in their third trimester who gave birth, all delivered live newborns. Among these five deliveries, the primary adverse perinatal outcomes included premature delivery (n = 2) and neonatal pneumonia (n = 2). One of nine stool samples was positive; all 13 vaginal secretion samples, and five throat swabs and four anal swabs collected from neonates, were negative for the novel coronavirus. However, one of three samples of breast milk was positive by viral nucleic acid testing. CONCLUSIONS: In this case series of 13 pregnant women with COVID-19, we observed negative viral test results in vaginal secretion specimens, suggesting that a vaginal delivery may be a safe delivery option. However, additional research is urgently needed to examine breast milk and the potential risk for viral contamination. TWEETABLE ABSTRACT: New evidence for the safety of vaginal delivery and breastfeeding in pregnant women infected with SARS-CoV-2, positive viral result in a breast-milk sample.

RESUMEN

The oral direct-acting antiviral drug (DAA) offers tremendous opportunities to eliminate hepatitis C. We analyzed the market trends, price trends and global treatment progress of DAA drugs by reviewing the guidelines recommended by the World Health Organization for the treatment of hepatitis C, and discusses the current accessibility of DAA treatment and its influencing factors. The results show that WHO recommends the use of DAA for treatment of hepatitis C, but the price of DAA is expensive. Although some countries have taken measures to lower prices and improve accessibility, the advancement of DAA treatment has been unsatisfactory and coverage is still not high. In addition to price, factors such as strategy, health system, accessibility and service provision need to be considered, and public health methods should be adopted to promote DAA treatment to achieve the elimination of hepatitis C.

RESUMEN

Objective: To analyze the relationships between the exposure of occupational noise and the occurrence of noise-induced high frequency hearing loss in automobile manufacturing industry. Methods: From June to November 2017, 1579 male workers were selected for exposure to noise hazards in the automobile manufacturing industry in Guangzhou for more than one year (including one year) using the convenient sampling method. According to the hearing test results, 276 people in the high frequency hearing loss group and 1303 in the normal hearing group were surveyed, occupational health tests were conducted, and the noise intensity in the workplace was measured. The cumulative noise exposure (CNE) was calculated. The relationship between shift work and high frequency hearing loss of noise work is analyzed. Results: Compared with the normal hearing group, the noise exposure intensity, age, length of service, marital status, working system, and physical exercise of the high frequency hearing loss group were statistically significant (P<0.05). Through logistic regression analysis, after correcting the effects of organic solvent contact, marital status, and physical exercise, CNE, age, and shift operations (double-shift operations, three-shift operations) are the risk factors for high frequency hearing loss to occur. Conclusion: The risk of hearing loss of workers exposed to noise in the whole vehicle manufacturing industry may be related to CNE, age, and shift work. Two-shift and three-shift work are possible risk factors for noise-induced high frequency hearing loss.

RESUMEN

Rabies is one of the major public health problems in China, and the mortality rate of rabies remains the highest among all notifiable infectious diseases. A meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) vaccination rate and risk factors for human rabies in mainland China. The PubMed, Web of Science, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Science and Technology Periodical and Wanfang databases were searched for articles on rabies vaccination status (published between 2007 and 2017). In total, 10 174 human rabies cases from 136 studies were included in this meta-analysis. Approximately 97.2% (95% confidence interval (CI) 95.1-98.7%) of rabies cases occurred in rural areas and 72.6% (95% CI 70.0-75.1%) occurred in farmers. Overall, the vaccination rate in the reported human rabies cases was 15.4% (95% CI 13.7-17.4%). However, among vaccinated individuals, 85.5% (95% CI 79.8%-83.4%) did not complete the vaccination regimen. In a subgroup analysis, the PEP vaccination rate in the eastern region (18.8%, 95% CI 15.9-22.1%) was higher than that in the western region (13.3%, 95% CI 11.1-15.8%) and this rate decreased after 2007. Approximately 68.9% (95% CI 63.6-73.8%) of rabies cases experienced category-III exposures, but their PEP vaccination rate was 27.0% (95% CI 14.4-44.9%) and only 6.1% (95% CI 4.4-8.4%) received rabies immunoglobulin. Together, these results suggested that the PEP vaccination rate among human rabies cases was low in mainland China. Therefore, standardised treatment and vaccination programs of dog bites need to be further strengthened, particularly in rural areas.

RESUMEN

Objective: To evaluate the preliminary efficacy and safety of argon plasma coagulation (APC) plus medical adhesive via thoracoscopy in the treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax caused by subpleural blebs. Methods: Data of totally 51 patients of spontaneous pneumothorax with subpleural blebs treated in Pneumology Department of Rizhao Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from July 2015 to July 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. Among the 51 patients, 59 target bullae were found, 1.2 per patient on average, with the diameter ranging from 0.5 to 5 cm and an average diameter of 2.6 cm. A total of 21 patients were treated with APC, and the rest 30 were treated with APC plus partially sprayed medical adhesive (APC+ group). The rate of air leakage discontinuance within 24 hours after operation, the rate of air leakage discontinuance within one week after operation, the disappearance rate of target subpleural blebs on CT scans one week after operation, and the rate of significantly shrunken target subpleural blebs and wall thickness, as well as the incidence of postoperative complications, including fever, chest pain, pleural effusion, hemorrhage, and infection after operation were observed and compared between the two groups. Results: The air leakage discontinuance rate in APC+ group was significantly higher than that in APC group 24 hours after operation (90.0% vs 52.4%, P<0.05), and the rate in APC+ group was also significantly higher than that in APC group one week after operation (96.7% vs 66.8%, P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the disappearance rate of target subpleural blebs on CT scans one week after operation and the incidence of significantly shrunken target subpleural blebs and wall thickness (both P>0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of postoperative complications such as fever, chest pain and pleural effusion (all P>0.05). Conclusion: The treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax with subpleural blebs by APC plus medical adhesive is safe and effective.
