RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Evidence from randomized studies support complete over culprit-only revascularization for patients with acute coronary artery syndrome (ACS) and multivessel coronary artery diseases (MVD). Whether these findings extend to elderly patients, however, has not been thoroughly explored. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing clinical outcomes of elderly individuals (defined as age ≥75 years) with ACS and MVD submitted to complete vs partial-only percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane were searched. We computed pooled hazard ratios with 95% confidence intervals (CI) to preserve time time-to-event data. RESULTS: We included 7 studies, of which 2 were RCT and 5 were multivariable adjusted cohorts, comprising a total 10 147, of whom 43.8% underwent complete revascularization. As compared with partial-only PCI, complete revascularization was associated with a lower all-cause mortality (hazard ratio 0.71; 95% CI 0.60-0.85; P < 0.01), cardiovascular mortality (hazard ratio 0.64; 95% CI 0.52-0.79; P < 0.01), and recurrent myocardial infarction (hazard ratio 0.65; 95% CI 0.50-0.85; P < 0.01). There was no significant difference between groups regarding the risk of revascularizations (hazard ratio 0.80; 95% CI 0.53-1.20; P = 0.28). CONCLUSION: Among elderly patients with ACS and multivessel CAD, complete revascularization is associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and recurrent myocardial infarction.

RESUMEN

Snappers are commercially important fishes in Indian waters, currently belonging to the order Lutjaniformes, family Lutjanidae. Generally, recognizing species of Lutjanus is a challenging task not only because of overlapping morphological characters, such as shapes, size groups, or colour patterns, but also based on the definition of the species concept or the definition of the threshold for speciation. In India there has not been any updated and accurate study of the genus so far. Besides, identification of the group based on ecological aspects and DNA barcoding tools were confined to limited laboratories. In the present study, ten species of snappers were identified from samples obtained from the major fish landing centres in the Visakhapatnam, Central Eastern coast of India. Snapper species were identified using COI (Cytochrome oxidase I) sequences for DNA barcoding. The validity of the conjecture species-level taxonomy based on COI is assisted with high equivalence search (98-100%) both in BOLD and BLAST, well-distributed genetic distance values.

RESUMEN

Recent studies have stressed the importance of disseminating behavior analysis to a more diverse audience and have provided ways to do so effectively. General science publications offer an attractive venue for communicating with a scientifically educated public. The present study examines behavior analysis research published in Science Today and Research Fapesp, monthly general science publications published by the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science and São Paulo Research Foundation, respectively. Behavior analytic terms were searched in issues published from 2003 to 2014, along with psychoanalytic terms as a comparative measure. Only 13 behavior analysis articles were found, while psychoanalytic articles totaled 150. Six of the behavior analysis articles misconstrue fundamental concepts of behavior analysis. The study recommends that behavior analysis researchers extend the dissemination of their findings outside the box.

RESUMEN

Curimatus albula Lütken 1874 was described from the Ribeirão da Mata at Lagoa Santa, a tributary of Rio das Velhas, Rio São Francisco basin. The species validity was questioned by Lütken (1875) himself, who suggested that the species could be a synonym of Curimatus gilbert Quoy & Gaimard, a species described from the Rio Macacu, a coastal river tributary of Guanabara bay, Rio de Janeiro. That synonymy was only formally proposed by Eigenmann (1910), and followed by most subsequent authors (e. g. Nielsen, 1974; Vari, 1992), except for Fowler (1975), who erroneously listed C. albula as the senior synonym of C. gilbert. Vari (1989) posteriorly removed both nominal species from Curimatus Oken (= Curimata Bosch) reallocating them in Cyphocharax Fowler, based on the lack of synapomorphic conditions present in other valid curimatid genera. Vari (1989) considered that those nominal species belonged to a major group within Cyphocharax also including C. grandocule Fernández-Yépez, C. modestus Fernández-Yépez, C. santacatarinae Fernández-Yépez, and C. voga Hensel, based on the presence of a rhomboidal caudal pigmentation and "random body spotting". Later, Vari (1992) included C. grandocule along with C. albula in the synonymy of C. gilbert, and listed several characters allowing further distinction of that species from the remaining species of the group (i.e., number of vertebrae, scales in transverse series, and pigmentation characters). Among the characters involving the pigmentation pattern, Vari (1992) stressed the lack of randomly arranged dark spots on the lateral and dorsolateral surfaces of the body in C. gilbert (versus present in C. voga).

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT A good taxonomic assessment of specimens is an essential task to many biological studies and DNA data have provided additional sources of information to assist in the disentanglement of taxonomic problems among living organisms, as has been the case of some taxa of the megadiverse Neotropical ichthyofauna. Here we assessed all valid species in the Neotropical freshwater fish genera Anodus, Argonectes, Bivibranchia and Micromischodus of the family Hemiodontidae to establish molecular species boundaries among them. All species delimitation methods defined exactly only one MOTU for Anodus elongatus, Argonectes longiceps, A. robertsi, Bivibranchia bimaculata, B. notata, B. velox, and Micromischodus sugillatus, resulting in total congruence between nominal species and MOTUs for these seven taxa. The three species having discordant results across analyses: Anodus orinocensis, Bivibranchia fowleri, and Bivibranchia simulata, matched more than one MOTU per species in some methods, meaning that cryptic diversity may exist within these taxa. Overall, this great correspondence among morphological and molecular boundaries for thae species analysed seem to be indicative of a reasonably stable taxonomy within these Hemiodontidae genera.

Erythrocharax altipinnis is described from the Serra do Cachimbo, Pará, Brazil. The new taxon is distinguished from all of the Characidae genera by having the pelvic bones firmly attached through the isquiatic processes; a nearly triangular hiatus in the musculature covering the anterior chamber of the swim bladder between the first and second pleural ribs (pseudotympanum); the pedunculate, notably expanded and distally compressed teeth in both jaws; circumorbital series represented by antorbital and four infraorbital bones with laterosensory canals not enclosed; a single tooth row in the premaxillary with the teeth perfectly aligned and similar in shape and cusp number; the first three branched dorsal-fin rays distinctly elongate in males; a bright red adipose and caudal fins in life; a conspicuous dark midlateral stripe extending from the opercle to the tip of the median caudal-fin rays; and by the absence of a humeral spot. The phylogenetic position of the new taxon is discussed using morphological and molecular datasets, with conflicting results of both approaches discussed. Additionally, a summarized discussion on the current problems in the Characidae taxonomy is presented and the principal biases in the morphological dataset are also discussed.

INTRODUCTION: The cardiovascular system is the most submitted to overload during exercise practice. However, there is a lack of knowledge about heart response under different recovery intervals (RI). OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to analyse the heart overload, using as cardiovascular parameter, the heart rate (HR), sistolic blood pressure (SBP) and double product (DP) under different recovery intervals (RI), delimited in 45'' (RI45''), 60'' (RI60'') and 90'' (RI90'') seconds. METHODS: The study analysed 10 volunteers, age 21.5 ± 6.04 years, weight 77.5 ± 10.62 kg and height 179 ± 7 cm, that was submitted a protocol of three sets of 12 repetition of 60% 1RM in Leg Press 45º apparatus. The Wilcoxon test was used to compare hemodynamic variables with significance level when p ≤ 0.05. RESULTS: There were significant differences of all variables when compared to pre-state effort with subsequent sets. The SBP was different between the first and the other sets. Also been observed difference between the second and third sets with RI45'', and in the third set, the RI45'' present greater values when compared to RI90''. Similarly, the HR present difference between the first and all other sets in all RI. The RI45'' and RI60'' showed differences between the second and third sets. However, the DP has demonstrated difference between the first and all others sets in all RI, and, the RI45'' and RI60'' showed difference between the second and third sets. CONCLUSION: According to the results, it is concluded that the SBP and HR is sensitive to the number of sets intra-sets, but there was no difference when comparing the RI with each other. However, there is a greater tendency of RI45'' cause increased cardiac overload, primarily by increased in SBP.

A second inseminating species bearing club cells organized into an anal-fin gland in sexually active males belonging to the genus Bryconadenos was recently discovered in the rio Xingu drainage and is described as new. It is distinguished from B. tanaothoros by the presence of a conspicuous dark blotch at the humeral region, and fewer scale rows between dorsal-fin origin and anal-fin origin. Males of B. weitzmani have longer pelvic fins at sizes beyond 30 mm SL. Bryconadenos weitzmani is further distinguished from B. tanaothoros by the cup shape of the anal-fin gland, its lower part much more developed than the upper, whereas in B. tanaothoros there is just a slit separating the almost equally developed upper and lower parts.
