RESUMEN

Interaction cross sections for ^{42-51}Ca on a carbon target at 280 MeV/nucleon have been measured for the first time. The neutron number dependence of derived root-mean-square matter radii shows a significant increase beyond the neutron magic number N=28. Furthermore, this enhancement of matter radii is much larger than that of the previously measured charge radii, indicating a novel growth in neutron skin thickness. A simple examination based on the Fermi-type distribution, and mean field calculations point out that this anomalous enhancement of the nuclear size beyond N=28 results from an enlargement of the core by a sudden increase in the surface diffuseness of the neutron density distribution, which implies the swelling of the bare ^{48}Ca core in Ca isotopes beyond N=28.

RESUMEN

The isospin character of p-n pairs at large relative momentum has been observed for the first time in the ^{16}O ground state. A strong population of the J,T=1,0 state and a very weak population of the J,T=0,1 state were observed in the neutron pickup domain of ^{16}O(p,pd) at 392 MeV. This strong isospin dependence at large momentum transfer is not reproduced by the distorted-wave impulse approximation calculations with known spectroscopic amplitudes. The results indicate the presence of high-momentum protons and neutrons induced by the tensor interactions in the ground state of ^{16}O.

BACKGROUND: The diagnosis of the progression of periodontitis presently depends on the use of clinical symptoms (such as attachment loss) and radiographic imaging. The aim of the multicenter study described here was to evaluate the diagnostic use of the bacterial content of subgingival plaque recovered from the deepest pockets in assessing disease progression in chronic periodontitis patients. METHODS: This study consisted of a 24-month investigation of a total of 163 patients with chronic periodontitis who received trimonthly follow-up care. Subgingival plaque from the deepest pockets was recovered and assessed for bacterial content of Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans using the modified Invader PLUS assay. The corresponding serum IgG titers were measured using ELISA. Changes in clinical parameters were evaluated over the course of 24 months. The sensitivity, specificity, and prediction values were calculated and used to determine cutoff points for prediction of the progression of chronic periodontitis. RESULTS: Of the 124 individuals who completed the 24-month monitoring phase, 62 exhibited progression of periodontitis, whereas 62 demonstrated stable disease. The P. gingivalis counts of subgingival plaque from the deepest pockets was significantly associated with the progression of periodontitis (p < 0.001, positive predictive value = 0.708). CONCLUSIONS: The P. gingivalis counts of subgingival plaque from the deepest pockets may be associated with the progression of periodontitis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: A diagnosis of periodontitis progression is presently limited to clinical parameters such as attachment loss and radiographic imaging. The aim of this multicenter study was to monitor disease progression in patients with chronic periodontitis during a 24-mo follow-up program and to evaluate the amount of bacteria in saliva and corresponding IgG titers in serum for determining the diagnostic usefulness of each in indicating disease progression and stability. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 163 patients with chronic periodontitis who received trimonthly follow-up care were observed for 24 mo. The clinical parameters and salivary content of Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans were assessed using the modified Invader PLUS assay, and the corresponding serum IgG titers were measured using ELISA. The changes through 24 mo were analyzed using cut-off values calculated for each factor. One-way ANOVA or Fisher's exact test was used to perform between-group comparison for the data collected. Diagnostic values were calculated using Fisher's exact test. RESULTS: Of the 124 individuals who completed the 24-mo monitoring phase, 62 exhibited periodontitis progression, whereas 62 demonstrated stable disease. Seven patients withdrew because of acute periodontal abscess. The ratio of P. gingivalis to total bacteria and the combination of P. gingivalis counts and IgG titers against P. gingivalis were significantly related to the progression of periodontitis. The combination of P. gingivalis ratio and P. gingivalis IgG titers was significantly associated with the progression of periodontitis (p = 0.001, sensitivity = 0.339, specificity = 0.790). CONCLUSIONS: It is suggested that the combination of P. gingivalis ratio in saliva and serum IgG titers against P. gingivalis may be associated with the progression of periodontitis.

The aim of this study was to investigate the bone resorption effect of the mediators delivered in joint cavity of patients with mandibular condyle fractures by detecting osteoclast markers using cellular biochemistry methods, and by analysing bone resorption activities via inducing osteoclast differentiation of the infiltrated cells from arthrocentesis. Sixteen joints in 10 patients with mandibular condyle fractures were evaluated. The control group consisted of synovial fluid (SF) samples from seven joints of four volunteers who had no clinical signs or symptoms involving the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) or disc displacement. We collected SF cells from all patients during therapeutic arthrocentesis. The infiltrating cells from TMJ SF were cultured, differentiated into tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP)-positive osteoclast-like cells and examined bone resorption activities. We also investigated factors related to osteoclast induction of SF, using ELISA procedures. Osteoclast-like cells were induced from the SF cells obtained from all patients with condylar fractures. These multinucleated giant cells were positive for TRAP and actin, and had the ability to absorb dentin slices. The levels of macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), soluble form of receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (sRANKL) and osteoprotegerin (OPG), in SF samples from the patients, were significantly higher than in the controls. These findings indicate that bone resorption activities in SF from patients with mandibular condyle fractures were upregulated and may participate in the pathogenesis and wound healing.

A pilot-scale experiment of natural rubber processing wastewater treatment was conducted using a combination system consisting of a two-stage up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) and a down-flow hanging sponge (DHS) reactor for more than 10 months. The system achieved a chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency of 95.7% ± 1.3% at an organic loading rate of 0.8 kg COD/(m(3).d). Bacterial activity measurement of retained sludge from the UASB showed that sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), especially hydrogen-utilizing SRB, possessed high activity compared with methane-producing bacteria (MPB). Conversely, the acetate-utilizing activity of MPB was superior to SRB in the second stage of the reactor. The two-stage UASB-DHS system can reduce power consumption by 95% and excess sludge by 98%. In addition, it is possible to prevent emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG), such as methane, using this system. Furthermore, recovered methane from the two-stage UASB can completely cover the electricity needs for the operation of the two-stage UASB-DHS system, accounting for approximately 15% of the electricity used in the natural rubber manufacturing process.

BACKGROUND: Platinum-based two-drug combination chemotherapy has been standard of care for patients with advanced nonsmall-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The primary aim was to compare overall survival (OS) of patients with advanced NSCLC between the two chemotherapy regimens. Secondary end points included progression-free survival (PFS), response, safety, and quality of life (QoL). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with previously untreated stage IIIB or IV NSCLC, an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status of 0-1 and adequate organ function were randomized to receive either oral S-1 80 mg/m(2)/day on days 1-21 plus cisplatin 60 mg/m(2) on day 8 every 4-5 weeks, or docetaxel 60 mg/m(2) on day 1 plus cisplatin 80 mg/m(2) on day 1 every 3-4 weeks, both up to six cycles. RESULTS: A total of 608 patients from 66 sites in Japan were randomized to S-1 plus cisplatin (n = 303) or docetaxel plus cisplatin (n = 305). OS for oral S-1 plus cisplatin was noninferior to docetaxel plus cisplatin [median survival, 16.1 versus 17.1 months, respectively; hazard ratio = 1.013; 96.4% confidence interval (CI) 0.837-1.227]. Significantly higher febrile neutropenia (7.4% versus 1.0%), grade 3/4 neutropenia (73.4% versus 22.9%), grade 3/4 infection (14.5% versus 5.3%), and grade 1/2 alopecia (59.3% versus 12.3%) were observed in the docetaxel plus cisplatin than in the S-1 plus cisplatin. There were no differences found in PFS or response between the two arms. QoL data investigated by EORTC QLQ-C30 and LC-13 favored the S-1 plus cisplatin. CONCLUSION: Oral S-1 plus cisplatin is not inferior to docetaxel plus cisplatin and is better tolerated in Japanese patients with advanced NSCLC. CLINICAL TRIAL NUMBER: UMIN000000608.

RESUMEN

A low-loss low-crosstalk multimode interference (MMI) crossing design for dielectric-loaded surface plasmon polariton waveguides (DLSPPWs), which are SiO2 stripes on Au films, is demonstrated numerically and experimentally. DLSPPWs are compatible with strong surface plasmon polariton (SPP) field confinement and maintain relatively low propagation losses. Unlike simpler crossings without MMI structures, low insertion loss of 0.65 dB and low crosstalk of -20.27 dB is confirmed numerically at a crossing angle of 10° when using tilted mirror-imaged MMI crossings. Similar insertion losses were also confirmed experimentally. The proposed structure will be beneficial for plasmonic device miniaturization and flexible patterning of optical interconnections.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Although regenerative periodontal surgery with EMD or guided tissue regeneration (GTR) has been shown to enhance periodontal regeneration, there are limited data on the long-term results following these treatment modalities. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the long-term clinical outcomes in intrabony defects following regenerative periodontal surgery with EMD or GTR compared with open-flap debridement (OFD). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Data from 40 subjects (44 teeth), with no history of smoking or systemic diseases that could interfere with periodontal disease and who received one of three surgical procedures (EMD, GTR or OFD) for two- or three-wall intrabony defects, were analyzed. Postoperative reduction in probing pocket depth, gain in clinical attachment level, gingival recession and percentage bone fill were compared at 1, 3 and 5 years. RESULTS: Reduction in probing pocket depth after GTR was significantly higher than after OFD at 1 and 3 years postoperatively, but there was no difference between the groups at 5 years. The gains in clinical attachment level for EMD (at 3 and 5 years) and for GTR (at 1, 3 and 5 years) were significantly greater than for OFD. Gingival recession after treatment with EMD and GTR showed a tendency toward positive results, whereas no such tendency was observed for OFD. Postoperative percentage bone fill for EMD and GTR was significantly greater than for OFD at 3 and 5 years. CONCLUSIONS: This is a retrospective study and an exploratory report with a high risk of bias. Within the limits of the current study, it may be concluded that superior gains in clinical attachment level and improved percentage bone fill can be obtained with EMD and GTR when compared with OFD, and these can be maintained over a period of 5 years.

Coffin-Siris syndrome (CSS) is a congenital disorder characterized by intellectual disability, growth deficiency, microcephaly, coarse facial features, and hypoplastic or absent fifth fingernails and/or toenails. We previously reported that five genes are mutated in CSS, all of which encode subunits of the switch/sucrose non-fermenting (SWI/SNF) ATP-dependent chromatin-remodeling complex: SMARCB1, SMARCA4, SMARCE1, ARID1A, and ARID1B. In this study, we examined 49 newly recruited CSS-suspected patients, and re-examined three patients who did not show any mutations (using high-resolution melting analysis) in the previous study, by whole-exome sequencing or targeted resequencing. We found that SMARCB1, SMARCA4, or ARID1B were mutated in 20 patients. By examining available parental samples, we ascertained that 17 occurred de novo. All mutations in SMARCB1 and SMARCA4 were non-truncating (missense or in-frame deletion) whereas those in ARID1B were all truncating (nonsense or frameshift deletion/insertion) in this study as in our previous study. Our data further support that CSS is a SWI/SNF complex disorder.

RESUMEN

A novel scheme for the focusing of high-energy leptons in future linear colliders was proposed in 2001 [P. Raimondi and A. Seryi, Phys. Rev. Lett. 86, 3779 (2001)]. This scheme has many advantageous properties over previously studied focusing schemes, including being significantly shorter for a given energy and having a significantly better energy bandwidth. Experimental results from the ATF2 accelerator at KEK are presented that validate the operating principle of such a scheme by demonstrating the demagnification of a 1.3 GeV electron beam down to below 65 nm in height using an energy-scaled version of the compact focusing optics designed for the ILC collider.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: An index for predictors of stroke outcome was determined based on the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores during 1-h intravenous administration of recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator (rt-PA). METHODS: Stroke patients with baseline NIHSS score ≥8 and occlusion at the internal carotid or middle cerebral arteries (ICA, MCA) were retrospectively studied from a prospective single-center registry. NIHSS scores and inverse change from baseline scores (ΔNIHSS) were assessed at 30 min and 1 h after rt-PA infusion. Patients were divided into two groups according to arterial occlusion sites: group P, ICA or proximal M1; and group D, distal M1 or M2. A modified Rankin Scale score of 2-6 at 3 months was defined as an unfavorable outcome. RESULTS: In all 108 patients, the cutoff NIHSS score predicting unfavorable outcome was ≥12 and cutoff ΔNIHSS scores were ≤2 at both 30 min and 1 h. In group P (n = 36), the cutoff NIHSS score was ≥14 at both 30 min and 1 h and cutoff ΔNIHSS scores were ≤1 at 30 min and ≤2 at 1 h. Unfavorable outcome was seen in all patients with NIHSS1 h ≥ 14, ΔNIHSS30 min ≤ 1 and ΔNIHSS1 h ≤ 2. In group D (n = 72), the cutoff NIHSS scores were ≥12 at both 30 min and 1 h, and cutoff ΔNIHSS scores were ≤2 at 30 min and ≤7 at 1 h; 90% of patients with unfavorable outcome showed ΔNIHSS1 h ≤ 7. CONCLUSION: NIHSS and ΔNIHSS during 1-h rt-PA infusion seemed predictive of 3-month outcome when the site of arterial occlusion was identified prior to rt-PA.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: T-helper type 17 (Th17) cells produce interleukin-17 (IL-17) and help to protect against inflammation and infection in periodontal disease. Furthermore, while follicular dendritic cell-secreted protein (FDC-SP) may be involved in the inflammation of periodontal tissue, the biological role of FDP-SP in periodontal disease is still unknown. The purpose of the present study was to clarify the expression of IL-17 and FDC-SP in experimental periodontitis in rats. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Seven-week-old male Wistar rats were divided into baseline control, sham and test groups. Experimental periodontitis was induced by placing a ligature in the mesiopalatal area, and untreated rats served as a baseline control group. Morphological changes in alveolar bone were investigated 7, 14 and 28 d after treatment. Expression of the Rankl, osteoprotegerin (Opg) and Il17 genes was analyzed 5 and 7 d after the induction of experimental periodontitis. RESULTS: Alveolar bone resorption progressed in the test group for 7 d, but not thereafter. At 5 d after the induction of periodontitis, the Rankl/Opg mRNA ratio and the expression of IL-17 in the test group were significantly increased compared with the respective values in the baseline control group; however, there were no significant differences between the test and control groups at 7 d. The expression of FDC-SP was significantly decreased in the test group compared with the baseline control group at 5 and 7 d after the induction of periodontitis, and this value had returned to normal levels at 14 and 28 d. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that both IL-17 and FDC-SP could be involved in the inflammatory response, and FDC-SP in the junctional epithelium might play an important role in the Th17 cell-related immune response.

AIM: To determine the differences in stem cell properties, in hepatic differentiation and in the effects of hydrogen sulphide (H2 S) on hepatic differentiation between human bone marrow stem cells (hBMC) and stem cells from human exfoliated primary tooth pulp (SHED). METHODOLOGY: CD117(+) cells were magnetically separated and subjected to hepatic differentiation. CD117(+) cell lineages were characterized for transcription factors indicative of stem cells by qRT-PCR. For the last 9 days of the differentiation, the test cells were exposed to 0.1 ng mL(-1) H2 S. Immunocytochemistry and flow cytometry of albumin, alpha-fetoprotein and carbamoyl phosphate synthetase were carried out after differentiation. Urea concentration and glycogen synthesis were also determined. RESULTS: Genes expressed in SHED were also expressed in BMC. No difference in expression level of hepatic markers was shown by immunofluorescence. SHED showed more positive cells than hBMC (P < 0.01). H2 S increased the number of positive cells in both cultures (P < 0.01). Urea concentration and glycogen synthesis increased significantly after H2 S exposure (P < 0.001 and P < 0.05, respectively). Real-time PCR data were analysed by RT(2) profiler RT-PCR Array Data Analysis version 3.5 (Qiagen), and ELISA data were analysed by Bonferroni's multiple comparison using Windows spss version 16 (SPSS Inc, Chicago, IL, USA). Bonferroni's multiple comparison test was also carried out after angle transformation for the percentage data of flow cytometer using Windows spss(®) version 16 (SPSS Inc). Statistical significance was accepted at P < 0.05. CONCLUSIONS: Stem cells from human exfoliated primary tooth pulp and BMC have similar properties. The level of hepatic differentiation in SHED compared with BMC was the same or higher. H2 S increased the level of hepatic differentiation.

INTRODUCTION: Breast cancer is a common malignant tumor among women, and the effectiveness of diagnosing its metastasis and recurrence has been demonstrated using diffusion-weighted whole-body imaging with background body signal suppression (DWIBS). However, DWIBS causes distress to patients due to the unique circumstances of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This study aimed to investigate the various distress factors caused by DWIBS among women with breast cancer and assess the effectiveness of a new MRI system designed with an environment incorporating relaxing technology. METHODS: From May to September 2022, we conducted a questionnaire survey regarding DWIBS-related distress among women with breast cancer. The questionnaire was administered to participants who underwent DWIBS on a conventional MRI system (19 women) and on a new system (20 women) equipped with relaxing technology equipped features, including projection images, illumination, and sound. Participants rated the degree of various stress factors on a face-scale rating scale (0-10). The scores of both systems were compared using the Mann-Whitney U test. RESULTS: In the conventional system, women experienced distress due to MRI-specific situations, such as immobility in a confined space, noise, feeling trapped, and concerns about not moving. These results did not show a specific tendency among women with breast cancer undergoing DWIBS. For almost all distress parameters, the new system had significantly lower distress scores than the conventional system (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: A comfortable environment using new and relaxing technology is effective in alleviating patient's anxiety by approaching the human senses. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Reducing distress caused by DWIBS among women with breast cancer could provide a comfortable examination environment, potentially assisting them during longer treatment periods.

Objective. The continuous delivery of oxygen is critical to sustain brain function, and therefore, measuring brain oxygen consumption can provide vital physiological insight. In this work, we examine the impact of calibration and cerebral blood flow (CBF) measurements on the computation of the relative changes in the cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen consumption (rCMRO2) from hemoglobin-sensitive intrinsic optical imaging data. Using these data, we calculate rCMRO2, and calibrate the model using an isometabolic stimulus.Approach. We used awake head-fixed rodents to obtain hemoglobin-sensitive optical imaging data to test different calibrated and uncalibrated rCMRO2models. Hypercapnia was used for calibration and whisker stimulation was used to test the impact of calibration.Main results. We found that typical uncalibrated models can provide reasonable estimates of rCMRO2with differences as small as 7%-9% compared to their calibrated models. However, calibrated models showed lower variability and less dependence on baseline hemoglobin concentrations. Lastly, we found that supplying the model with measurements of CBF significantly reduced error and variability in rCMRO2change calculations.Significance. The effect of calibration on rCMRO2calculations remains understudied, and we systematically evaluated different rCMRO2calculation scenarios that consider including different measurement combinations. This study provides a quantitative comparison of these scenarios to evaluate trade-offs that can be vital to the design of blood oxygenation sensitive imaging experiments for rCMRO2calculation.

BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) is a new treatment method for the removal of infectious pathogens using a photosensitizer and light of a specific wavelength, e.g., toluidine blue with a wavelength of about 600 nm. We explored a new photosensitizer and focused on indocyanine green (ICG), which has high absorption at a wavelength of 800-805 nm. We investigated the bactericidal effect of PDT on Porphyromonas gingivalis using a new photosensitizer, ICG-loaded nanospheres with an 805 nm wavelength low-level diode laser irradiation. METHODS: We designed ICG-loaded nanospheres coated with chitosan (ICG-Nano/c) as a photosensitizer. A solution containing Porphyromonas gingivalis (10(8)  CFU/mL) with or without ICG-Nano/c (or ICG) was prepared and irradiated with a diode laser or without laser irradiation as a negative control. The irradiation settings were 0.5 W with a duty ratio of 10%, for 3-100 ms in repeated pulse (RPT) or continuous wave mode. CFU were counted after 7 d of anaerobic culture. RESULTS: We observed that ICG-Nano/c could adhere to the surface of P. gingivalis. When ICG-Nano/c was used for aPDT, irradiation with RPT 100 ms mode gave the lowest increase in temperature. Laser irradiation with ICG-Nano/c significantly reduced the number of P. gingivalis (i.e., approximately 2-log10 bacterial killing). The greatest bactericidal effect was found in the RPT 100 ms group. However, laser irradiation (RPT 100 ms) with ICG, as well as without photosensitizer, had no effect on the number of bacteria. CONCLUSIONS: Within the limits of this study, ICG-Nano/c with low-level diode laser (0.5 W; 805 nm) irradiation showed an aPDT-like effect, which might be useful for a potential photodynamic periodontal therapy.

Macular corneal dystrophy (MCD; MIM 217800) is an autosomal recessive hereditary disease in which progressive punctate opacities in the cornea result in bilateral loss of vision, eventually necessitating corneal transplantation. MCD is classified into two subtypes, type I and type II, defined by the respective absence and presence of sulphated keratan sulphate in the patient serum, although both types have clinically indistinguishable phenotypes. The gene responsible for MCD type I has been mapped to chromosome 16q22, and that responsible for MCD type II may involve the same locus. Here we identify a new carbohydrate sulphotransferase gene (CHST6), encoding an enzyme designated corneal N-acetylglucosamine-6-sulphotransferase (C-GlcNAc6ST), within the critical region of MCD type I. In MCD type I, we identified several mutations that may lead to inactivation of C-GlcNAc6ST within the coding region of CHST6. In MCD type II, we found large deletions and/or replacements caused by homologous recombination in the upstream region of CHST6. In situ hybridization analysis did not detect CHST6 transcripts in corneal epithelium in an MCD type II patient, suggesting that the mutations found in type II lead to loss of cornea-specific expression of CHST6.

Simulium (Gomphostilbia) okinawense Takaoka and S. (G.) tokarense Takaoka, both from the Nansei Islands, Japan, were morphologically reexamined and genetically analysed by using the COI gene sequences. The female, male, pupa and mature larva of the two species are redescribed. Morphological reexamination shows that both species are more similar to species in the S. asakoae species-group than to those in the S. ceylonicum species-group, by having a medium-long female sensory vesicle, yellow tuft hairs (S. (G.) okinawense) or yellow tuft hairs mixed with a few to several dark hairs (S. (G.) tokarense) at the base of the radial vein in the female and male, and medium-long larval postgenal cleft. However, the body of the male ventral plate (viewed ventrally) is parallel-sided (S. (G.) okinawense) or parallelsided or slightly narrowed (S. (G.) tokarense) and not emarginated basally, differing from those of most species in the S. asakoae species-group. Our genetic analysis shows that S. (G.) tokarense is in the S. asakoae species-group, and S. (G.) okinawense formed a separate sister clade with other members of the S. asakoae species-group with high bootstrap support. From the results of morphological and genetic analysis combined, S. (G.) okinawense and S. (G.) tokarense are transferred from the S. ceylonicum species-group to the S. asakoae species-group.

Simulium takahasii (Rubtsov), which was originally described from Japan, and recorded from Korea and China, is the first among the 19 species of the subgenus Wilhelmia Enderlein recorded from East Asia. It is striking in mating, blood-feeding and ovipositing in captivity and in experimentally transmitting Dirofilaria immitis (Leidy) and Brugia pahangi (Buckley & Edeson), and it is a severe biter of cattle and horses, rarely of humans. Nevertheless, updated information about its morphological characteristics was lacking, making comparisons with related species described from China difficult, since species of the subgenus Wilhelmia are almost indistinguishable from one another, in particular, in their female terminalia, male genitalia and most of larval features. In this study, as many morphological characteristics as possible of S. takahasii based on specimens from Japan are redescribed. New information about many features of this species including the length of the female sensory vesicle against the third palpal segment, number of male upper-eye (large) facets, arrangement of the eight pupal gill filaments, presence or absence of tiny dark setae on the dorsum of the larval abdomen and the number of rows and hooklets of the larval posterior circlet will be useful in evaluating the species status of several Wilhelmia species in China including the species regarded as S. takahasii.
