RESUMEN

Optical mirror misalignments, which are caused by assembly mistakes and changes in the surrounding environment (such as gravity, temperature, and atmosphere), degrade the system's imaging performance. Therefore, active misalignment correction is essential for ensuring the image quality of the off-axis telescope. In this paper, a novel misalignment correction method without wavefront sensors is proposed. The point spread functions (PSFs) of the system are analytically related to the optical mirror misalignments. On this basis, a fully connected neural network (FCNN) is used to establish the mapping relationship between the misalignments and the discrete orthogonal unbiased finite impulse response (UFIR) moment features, which can effectively characterize changes of intensity and geometric of the spot image. The simulation and experimental results in this paper justify the effectiveness and practicality of the proposed method. This approach offers a low-cost and straightforward technical method for achieving high imaging quality throughout the alignment and observation phases. This approach can prevent the accumulation of errors caused by wavefront detection and the high delay of multiple iterations.

Connectivity isomerization of the same aromatic molecular core with different substitution positions profoundly affects electron transport pathways and single-molecule conductance. Herein, we designed and synthesized all connectivity isomers of a thiophene (TP) aromatic ring substituted by two dihydrobenzo[b]thiophene (BT) groups with ethynyl spacers (m,n-TP-BT, (m,n = 2,3; 2,4; 2,5; 3,4)), to systematically probe how connectivity contributes to single-molecule conductance. Single-molecule conductance measurements using a scanning tunneling microscopy break junction (STM-BJ) technique show ∼12-fold change in conductance values, which follow an order of 10-4.83 G0 (2,4-TP-BT) < 10-4.78 G0 (3,4-TP-BT) < 10-4.06 G0 (2,3-TP-BT) < 10-3.75 G0 (2,5-TP-BT). Electronic structure analysis and theoretical simulations show that the connectivity isomerization significantly changes electron delocalization and HOMO-LUMO energy gaps. Moreover, the connectivity-dependent molecular structures lead to different quantum interference (QI) effects in electron transport, e.g., a strong destructive QI near E = EF leads the smallest conductance value for 2,4-TP-BT. This work proves a clear relationship between the connectivity isomerization and single-molecule conductance of thiophene heterocyclic molecular junctions for the future design of molecular devices.

Excessive phosphate and tetracycline (TC) contaminants pose a serious risk to human health and the ecological environment. As such exploring the simultaneous adsorption of phosphate and TC is garnering increasing attention. In this study, an efficient lanthanum ferrate magnetic biochar (FLBC) was synthesised from crab shells using an ultrasound-assisted sol-gel method to study its performance and mechanisms for phosphate and TC adsorption in aqueous solutions in mono/bis systems. According to the Langmuir model, the developed exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity of 65.62 mg/g for phosphate and 234.1 mg/g for TC (pH:7.0 ± 0.1, and 25 °C). Further, it exhibited high resistance to interference and pH suitability. In practical swine wastewater applications, whereby the concentrations of phosphate and TC are 37 and 19.97 mg/L, respectively, the proposed material demonstrated excellent performance. In addition, electrostatic adsorption, chemical precipitation and ligand exchange were noted to be the main mechanisms for phosphate adsorption by FLBC, whereas hydrogen bonding and π-π interaction were the main adsorption mechanisms for TC adsorption. Therefore, this study successfully prepared a novel and efficient adsorbent for phosphate and TC.

In order to suppress the impact of atmosphere turbulence on the space laser communication link, the wavefront correction technology of a liquid crystal spatial light modulator (LCSLM) is studied. Combining with the control mode of the LCSLM, we propose an improved deep learning approach that restores the input image features into the wavefront and then controls the LCSLM to compensate for the phase distortion. This method does not have Zernike coefficient truncation and does not require the calculation of coefficient matrices, thus improving the accuracy and efficiency of the algorithm. At the same time, as for its powerful phase fitting ability, the LCSLM can be used as a turbulence simulator to construct datasets. During the training process of the neural networks, a calibration between the LCSLM and deep learning is established. Finally, a spatial optical coupling experimental system is built. The results show that, under different atmospheric conditions, the liquid crystal wavefront correction method has a significant improvement in terminal coupling efficiency and has certain application prospects in the field of free-space optical communication.

Signal denoising is one of the most important issues in signal processing, and various techniques have been proposed to address this issue. A combined method involving wavelet decomposition and multiscale principal component analysis (MSPCA) has been proposed and exhibits a strong signal denoising performance. This technique takes advantage of several signals that have similar noises to conduct denoising; however, noises are usually quite different between signals, and wavelet decomposition has limited adaptive decomposition abilities for complex signals. To address this issue, we propose a signal denoising method based on ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) and MSPCA. The proposed method can conduct MSPCA-based denoising for a single signal compared with the former MSPCA-based denoising methods. The main steps of the proposed denoising method are as follows: First, EEMD is used for adaptive decomposition of a signal, and the variance contribution rate is selected to remove components with high-frequency noises. Subsequently, the Hankel matrix is constructed on each component to obtain a higher order matrix, and the main score and load vectors of the PCA are adopted to denoise the Hankel matrix. Next, the PCA-denoised component is denoised using soft thresholding. Finally, the stacking of PCA- and soft thresholding-denoised components is treated as the final denoised signal. Synthetic tests demonstrate that the EEMD-MSPCA-based method can provide good signal denoising results and is superior to the low-pass filter, wavelet reconstruction, EEMD reconstruction, Hankel-SVD, EEMD-Hankel-SVD, and wavelet-MSPCA-based denoising methods. Moreover, the proposed method in combination with the AIC picking method shows good prospects for processing microseismic waves.

BACKGROUND: Numerous studies have reported the health-promoting effects of exopolysaccharides (EPSs) in in vitro models; however, a functional evaluation of EPSs will provide additional knowledge of EPS-microbe interactions by in vivo intestinal microbial model. In the present study, high-throughput amplicon sequencing, short-chain fatty acid (SCFAs) and intestinal inflammation evaluation were performed to explore the potential benefits of exopolysaccharides (EPSs) and EPS-producing Lactobacillus (HNUB20 group) using the healthy zebrafish (Danio rerio) model. RESULTS: The results based on microbial taxonomic analysis revealed that the abundance of four genera, Ochrobactrum, Sediminibacterium, Sphingomonas and Sphingobium, were increased in the control group in comparison to HNUB20 group. Pelomonas spp. levels were significantly higher and that of the genera Lactobacillus and Brachybacterium were significantly decreased in EPS group compared with control group. PICRUSt based functional prediction of gut microbiota metabolic pathways indicated that significantly lower abundance was found for transcription, and membrane transport, whereas folding, sorting and degradation and energy metabolism had significantly higher abundance after HNUB20 treatment. Two metabolic pathways, including metabolism and endocrine functions, were more abundant in the EPS group than control group. Similar to the HNUB20 group, transcription was also decreased in the EPS group compared with the control group. However, SCFAs and immune indexes indicated EPS and HNUB20 performed limited efficacy in the healthy zebrafish. CONCLUSIONS: The present intestinal microbial model-based study indicated that EPSs and high-yield EPS-producing Lactobacillus can shake the structure of intestinal microbiota, but cannot change SCFAs presence and intestinal inflammation.

OBJECTIVE: Circumferential pulmonary vein isolation (CPVI) is a common procedure that is performed on patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). However, AF may recur in some patients after treatment. This study assesses the association between autonomic modulation and late recurrence after CPVI and between autonomic modulation and ablation lesion quality. METHODS: We prospectively enrolled 72 patients with paroxysmal AF who underwent CPVI from January 2017 to January 2018. Pre- and post-ablation 24 h electrocardiograms were performed to document heart rate variability (HRV), which represents cardiac autonomic function. The intraablation force-time integral (FTI) was used to indicate the extent of ablation injury. Patients were followed up for 12 months after the procedure and cases of AF recurrence were recorded. RESULTS: Changes in HRV decreased after the procedure, which was correlated with FTI (ΔSDNN: r = -0.26, P = 0.03; ΔrMMSD: r = -0.28, P = 0.02; ΔlnHF: r = -0.22, P = 0.04; ΔLnLF: r = -0.29, P = 0.01). Patients without AF recurrence had more pronounced ΔLF (-21.84 ± 33.21% vs. -8.68 ± 34.59%, P = 0.01) and ΔHF (-17.26 ± 16.61% vs. -1.28 ± 9.81%, P = 0.01) than patients with recurrence. Multivariate regression analysis showed that both ΔLF (HR: 1.07, P = 0.04) and ΔHF (HR: 1.11, P = 0.01) were associated with AF recurrence. After adjusting for FTI, ΔLF was no longer associated with AF recurrence (HR: 1.05, P = 0.10). ΔHF remained associated with AF recurrence (HR: 1.08, P = 0.03), but the correlation coefficient was decreased (HR: 1.08, P = 0.03). CONCLUSION: Decreased autonomic nerve function is a valid predictor of AF recurrence and is indicated by the extent of ablation injury, which is independently associated with AF recurrence after CPVI.

Inter-satellite laser communication (Is-OWC) is one of the main space optical communication technologies currently studied in various countries. In recent years, a kind of Is-OWC communication terminal without independent beacon light has appeared. Such terminals do not have a separate beacon laser with a large divergence angle, but use a narrower communication beam to complete space capture and tracking. Therefore, the energy of the light beam divided by the acquisition, tracking, and aiming (ATP) system is greatly reduced. How to perform high-precision spot position detection under extremely low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is a problem that must be faced. Aiming to resolve this problem, this article proposes to use a cosine signal to modulate the intensity of the signal light, so as to convert the problem of detecting a weak light signal into the problem of detecting a line spectrum signal. The authors used the time reversal convolution (TRC) algorithm with a window function to suppress noise and enhance the spectrum line, so as to accurately detect the amplitudes of the weak photocurrents. Finally, by calculating the ratio of the photocurrent amplitude values, the precise spot position is obtained. In the experiment, when the output SNR of the four-quadrant detector (QD) is as low as -17.86 dB, the proposed method can still detect the spot position and the absolute error is limited within 0.0238 mrad.

In the adaptive optics (AO) system, to improve the effectiveness and accuracy of wavefront sensing-less technology, a phase-based sensing approach using machine learning is proposed. In contrast to the traditional gradient-based optimization methods, the model we designed is based on an improved convolutional neural network. Specifically, the deconvolution layer, which reconstructs unknown input by measuring output, is introduced to represent the phase maps of the point spread functions at the in focus and defocus planes. The improved convolutional neural network is utilized to establish the nonlinear mapping between the input point spread functions and the corresponding phase maps of the optical system. Once well trained, the model can directly output the aberration map of the optical system with good precision. Adequate simulations and experiments are introduced to demonstrate the accuracy and real-time performance of the proposed method. The simulations show that even when atmospheric conditions D/r0 = 20, the detection root-mean-square of wavefront error of the proposed method is 0.1307 λ, which has a better accuracy than existing neural networks. When D/r0 = 15 and 10, the root-mean-square error is respectively 0.0909 λ and 0.0718 λ. It has certain applicative value in the case of medium and weak turbulence. The root-mean-square error of experiment results with D/r0 = 20 is 0.1304 λ, proving the correctness of simulations. Moreover, this method only needs 12 ms to accomplish the calculation and it has broad prospects for real-time wavefront sensing.

In this paper, an improved method of measuring wavefront aberration based on image with machine learning is proposed. This method had better real-time performance and higher estimation accuracy in free space optical communication in cases of strong atmospheric turbulence. We demonstrated that the network we optimized could use the point spread functions (PSFs) at a defocused plane to calculate the corresponding Zernike coefficients accurately. The computation time of the network was about 6-7 ms and the root-mean-square (RMS) wavefront error (WFE) between reconstruction and input was, on average, within 0.1263 waves in the situation of D/r0 = 20 in simulation, where D was the telescope diameter and r0 was the atmospheric coherent length. Adequate simulations and experiments were carried out to indicate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method.

BACKGROUND: The complex relationship between atrial fibrillation (AF) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) suggests a potential role for epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) that requires further investigation. This study employs bioinformatics and experimental approaches to clarify EAT's role in linking T2DM and AF, aiming to unravel the biological mechanisms involved. METHOD: Bioinformatics analysis initially identified common differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in EAT from T2DM and AF datasets. Pathway enrichment and network analyses were then performed to determine the biological significance and network connections of these DEGs. Hub genes were identified through six CytoHubba algorithms and subsequently validated biologically, with further in-depth analyses confirming their roles and interactions. Experimentally, db/db mice were utilized to establish a T2DM model. AF induction was executed via programmed transesophageal electrical stimulation and burst pacing, focusing on comparing the incidence and duration of AF. Frozen sections and Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining illuminated the structures of the heart and EAT. Moreover, quantitative PCR (qPCR) measured the expression of hub genes. RESULTS: The study identified 106 DEGs in EAT from T2DM and AF datasets, underscoring significant pathways in energy metabolism and immune regulation. Three hub genes, CEBPZ, PAK1IP1, and BCCIP, emerged as pivotal in this context. In db/db mice, a marked predisposition towards AF induction and extended duration was observed, with HE staining verifying the presence of EAT. Additionally, qPCR validated significant changes in hub genes expression in db/db mice EAT. In-depth analysis identified 299 miRNAs and 33 TFs as potential regulators, notably GRHL1 and MYC. GeneMANIA analysis highlighted the hub genes' critical roles in stress responses and leukocyte differentiation, while immune profile correlations highlighted their impact on mast cells and neutrophils, emphasizing the genes' significant influence on immune regulation within the context of T2DM and AF. CONCLUSION: This investigation reveals the molecular links between T2DM and AF with a focus on EAT. Targeting these pathways, especially EAT-related ones, may enable personalized treatments and improved outcomes.

AIMS: The mechanisms regulating the cellular behavior and cardiomyocyte organization during ventricular wall morphogenesis are poorly understood. Cardiomyocytes are surrounded by extracellular matrix (ECM) and interact with ECM via integrins. This study aims to determine whether and how ß1 integrins regulate cardiomyocyte behavior and organization during ventricular wall morphogenesis in the mouse. METHODS AND RESULTS: We applied mRNA deep sequencing and immunostaining to determine the expression repertoires of α/ß integrins and their ligands in the embryonic heart. Integrin ß1 subunit (ß1) and some of its ECM ligands are asymmetrically distributed and enriched in the luminal side of cardiomyocytes, and fibronectin surrounds cardiomyocytes, creating a network for them. Itgb1, which encodes the ß1, was deleted via Nkx2.5Cre/+ to generate myocardial-specific Itgb1 knockout (B1KO) mice. B1KO hearts display an absence of a trabecular zone but a thicker compact zone. The levels of hyaluronic acid and versican, essential for trabecular initiation, were not significantly different between control and B1KO. Instead, fibronectin, a ligand of ß1, was absent in the myocardium of B1KO hearts. Furthermore, B1KO cardiomyocytes display a random cellular orientation and fail to undergo perpendicular cell division, be organized properly, and establish the proper tissue architecture to form trabeculae. Mosaic clonal lineage tracing showed that Itgb1 regulates cardiomyocyte transmural migration and proliferation autonomously. CONCLUSIONS: ß1 is asymmetrically localized in the cardiomyocytes, and some of its ECM ligands are enriched along the luminal side of the myocardium, and fibronectin surrounds cardiomyocytes. ß1 integrins are required for cardiomyocytes to attach to the ECM network. This engagement provides structural support for cardiomyocytes to maintain shape, undergo perpendicular division, and establish cellular organization. Deletion of Itgb1 leads to loss of ß1 and fibronectin and prevents cardiomyocytes from engaging the ECM network, resulting in failure to establish tissue architecture to form trabeculae.

Because of the potential environmental harm caused by the extensive application of tetracycline (TC), this study used jasmine waste rich in organic matter as a precursor and one-step carbonization into metal-free carbon-based materials to efficiently activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) toward degrading TC. The jasmine waste biochar (JWB) with a heating rate of 10 °C min-1 and a heating temperature of 700 °C was selected as the most suitable material based on its catalytic performance. The effects of catalyst dose, PMS dose, initial pH value, coexisting inorganic anions and TC concentration on the JWB/PMS/TC system were thoroughly optimized. The results showed that the degradation efficiency of TC by JWB/PMS system was 90%. Meanwhile, the combination of electron paramagnetic resonance, masking experiments and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry confirmed that JWB degraded TC mainly through the non-radical radical pathway of 1O2 oxidation and mediated the electron transfer to PMS. In addition, some degradation products were analyzed by LC-MS and possible degradation pathways of the system were proposed. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel method for recycling jasmine waste and providing a low-cost catalyst for the oxidation treatment of refractory organic matter.

BACKGROUND: Catheter-based pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is an effective and well-established intervention for symptomatic paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). Nevertheless, late recurrences of atrial fibrillation (LRAF) occurring during 3 to 12 months are common, and the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) in atrial tissue have been linked to the pathophysiological mechanisms and progression of PAF in a few studies. However, their expression patterns in peripheral blood and regulatory function in LRAF are not clear. METHODS: In the present study, the expression profile of circulating circRNAs in three paired nonvalvular PAF patients with or without LRAF was investigated by high-throughput sequencing and validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Bioinformatics analyses, including Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis, and circRNA/miRNA regulatory network, were performed to predict the functions and potential regulatory roles of differentially expressed (DE) circRNAs. RESULTS: A total of 12,834 circRNAs, comprising 5,491 down-regulated and 7,343 up-regulated circRNAs, were found to be DE in blood smaples from the two groups in peripheral blood between LRAF and non-recurrence control individuals. The most enriched GO categories in terms of molecular function, biological process, and cellular component features were catalytic activity, cellular metabolic process, and intracellular part, respectively. The KEGG enrichment study revealed that the most important metabolic process controlled by DE circRNAs is endocytosis. In the circRNA/microRNAs interaction network, four up-regulated circRNAs (hsa_circ_0002665, hsa_circ_0001953, hsa_circ_0003831, and hsa_circ_0040533) and one down-regulated circRNA (hsa_circ_0041103) were predicted to play potential regulatory roles in the pathogenesis of LRAF. CONCLUSIONS: This investigation discovered the expression pattern of circulating circRNAs that is indicative of PAF late recurrence, which may serve as risk markers or therapeutic targets for LRAF after PVI.

OBJECTIVE: Stress plays an important role in the pathogenesis of ventricular arrhythmias. This study was designed to examine the effect of acute stress and metoprolol, a beta adrenergic receptor blocker, on cardiac electrophysiological stability of male goats. METHODS: Fifteen male goats were randomly divided into three groups: (i) control animals (n=5), (ii) a compound stimuli group including noise and red flash (n=5), (iii) and a compound stimuli group with metoprolol treatment (n=5). Plasma catecholamines were determined by using high performance chromatography with electrochemical detection. Heart rate turbulence (HRT) and heart rate variability (HRV) were analysed with the MGY-H12L analysis system. Also, the ventricular fibrillation threshold (VFT) and the ventricular vulnerable period (VVP) were determined by programmed S1S2 stimulus with bipolar electrodes at the apex of the goat hearts. RESULTS: Compound stimuli increased plasma catecholamine levels progressively and decreased the negative value of turbulence onset (TO), turbulence slope (TS), SDNN, PNN50. Moreover, compound stimuli broadened VVP and decreased VFT significantly. Although metoprolol treatment failed to affect plasma catecholamine levels, TS and PNN50 value of the compound stimuli group, it significantly increased the negative value of TO, SDNN, VFT and narrowed VVP. CONCLUSION: Our data demonstrates that compound stimuli can induce acute stressful reactions, and decrease the cardiac electrophysiological stability of male goats, which can be counteracted by metoprolol treatment.

Acrolein is a highly toxic agent that can be generated exogenously and endogenously. Therefore, a highly specific and sensitive probe for acrolein with potential applications in acrolein detection must be developed. In this research, a novel fluorescent probe named "probe for acrolein detection" (Pr-ACR) was designed and synthesized based on a naphthalimide fluorophore skeleton, and a thiol group (-SH) was introduced into its structure for acrolein recognition. The -SH traps acrolein via Michael addition and the resultant interaction product of the probe inhibits the photoinduced electron transfer process and produce a strong fluorescence at 510 nm. The probe showed high sensitivity and specificity for acrolein. HPLC-MS/MS analysis verified that it can be used to quantify acrolein in foods, such as soda crackers, red wine, and baijiu, with a fluorescence spectrophotometer. After methyl esterification, the methyl esterified probe (mPr-ACR) successfully visualised acrolein in Hela cells under a laser scanning confocal microscope. This finding proved that Pr-ACR and mPr-ACR are potential tools for the detection and visualisation of acrolein from different sources.

RESUMEN

We report the case of an 87-year-old woman with tuberculous pleurisy. She developed adverse effects in the form of thrombocytopenia and gastrointestinal hemorrhage with isoniazid, and thrombocytopenia with linezolid. Her treatment was switched to contezolid plus cycloserine for a 4-week antibiotic duration, with a favorable outcome.

Acrolein is a notorious aldehyde with hazardous impacts on humans. γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a functional amino acid present widely in foods. This study aimed at investigating the protective mechanism of GABA against acrolein. In simulated physiological and thermal processing models, GABA effectively scavenged acrolein by adduct formation. The cytotoxicity of the formed adduct was evaluated in human bronchial epithelial cell line HBE and normal colonic epithelial cell line NCM460. It tremendously decreased acrolein toxicity and exerted protective effects by ROS reduction. Apoptotic staining and signaling analysis showed that it also interfered with apoptosis via extrinsic and intrinsic pathways. Our findings provide the basic knowledge that GABA is an effective acrolein scavenger and it has potential detoxifying capacity for both exogenous and endogenous acrolein sourced cellular damage.

OBJECTIVE: To prospectively clarify the predictive value of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) on the risk for recurrent atrial arrhythmia in paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) population who accepted radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) of atrial fibrillation (AF). METHODS: There were 57 consecutive patients (53.32±9.98 years; 42 males) with drug-refractory PAF who underwent RFCA were included. Plasma levels of hsCRP and high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) were measured on admission and first five days after RFCA. Twenty-five patients (43.86%) had early recurrence of atrial fibrillation (ERAF). RESULTS: Compared to patients without ERAF (no-AF-recurrence group), baseline hsCRP levels had no significant difference in patients with ERAF (AF recurrence group). There were no significant differences in the peak hsCRP and hs-cTnT levels between no-AF-recurrence group and AF recurrence group. However, change of hsCRP level was significantly correlated with change in hs-cTnT level in patients undergoing RFCA (r=0.268, P=0.044). CONCLUSIONS: Among those AF patients undergoing ablation, change of hsCRP level could be for the myocardial injury related to RFCA procedure, which may not be a risk factor to predict ERAF. The variety of hsCRP level may be related to the degree of myocardial injury induced by RFCA.

The present study was designed to determine the association between atrial fibrillation (AF) and inflammation in a goat sterile pericarditis model and to assess the effect of atorvastatin, a cholesterol­reducing drug, on AF. A total of 15 adult male goats were randomly divided into control, untreated pericarditis and atorvastatin­treated pericarditis groups. Pericarditis was induced via thoracotomy and atorvastatin was administered orally (60 mg/day) to the goats in the latter group for the duration of the study, commencing 1 week prior to surgery. The levels of high­sensitivity C­reactive protein (hs­CRP), interleukin(IL)­6 and tumor necrosis factor­α (TNF­α) were significantly elevated following surgery in the untreated pericarditis and atorvastatin groups compared with the control group (P<0.05). However, lower levels of hs­CRP, IL­6 and TNF­α were observed in the atorvastatin group compared with the untreated pericarditis group (P<0.05). Additionally, the animals in the atorvastatin­treated pericarditis group had a longer effective refractory period (ERP) and a higher rate adaptation of the ERP compared with those in the untreated pericarditis group (P<0.05). There was a significant negative correlation between the levels of ERP and hs­CRP in the untreated pericarditis group. The inducibility of AF in the left atrium and the duration of AF in the untreated pericarditis and atorvastatin­treated groups increased significantly following surgery (P<0.05). The pericarditis group, however, had a longer duration of AF compared with the atorvastatin group (P<0.05). Thus, inflammation may promote AF by shortening atrial ERP and by reducing the rate adaptation of ERP. These results suggested that atorvastatin can attenuate AF by inhibiting inflammation and may assist in preventing the occurrence and recurrence of AF following cardiac surgery.
