RESUMEN

Composite materials have occupied a reliable position in electrochemical energy storage and conversion due to their double electric layer and pseudocapacitance. In this work, a leaf-like heterostructure composite, obtained by peeling - carbonizing - in situ sulfuration/oxidation approach for the first time, is investigated as electrode material for electrochemical capacitance behavior. The thin and highly active transition metal WS2 acts as an energetic "blade" to trap free ions, which are then transported across the material through a strong "tendon skeleton" WO3. The derived carbon PPC with a large aspect ratio holds up the overall leaf structure, also as a "warehouse" for ion storage, thus enhancing the conductivity and wettability of the material. The above three (WS2+WO3+PPC) synergistically provide outstanding double-layer capacitance and pseudocapacitance. In particular, the vacancy defects, constructed at the heterogenous interface from WS2-WO3 in situ growth, can still achieve superior ion absorption/desorption ability even under large current density and high concentration brackish solution.

This study aims to investigate influencing factors of quality of life (QoL) and depression among COVID-19 survivors during convalescence. A cross-sectional study was conducted in November 2020 in Wuhan, China. Information on social support, physical activity, QoL and depressive symptoms were assessed using self-administered questionnaires. Multivariate linear regression and multivariate logistic regression were used to assess the risk factors of subdomains of QoL (physical component score (PCS) and mental component score (MCS)) and depression, respectively. A total of 151 COVID-19 survivors (68 males) aged 53.21 (SD: 12.70) years participated in the study. Multivariate linear regression showed that age (ß=-0.241), history of chronic disease (ß=-0.4.774), physical activity (ß = 2.47) and social support (ß = 0.147) were significantly associated with PCS, while having a spouse (ß = 9.571), monthly income (ß = 0.043) and social support (ß = 0.337) were significantly associated with MCS. Logistic regression suggested that participants aged 40-60 years (OR = 10.20, 95%CI: 1.41-73.82) or above 60 years (OR = 15.63, 95%CI: 1.87-131.00), with high school or above education (OR = 5.81, 95%CI: 1.24-27.20), with low/moderate physical activity (low, OR = 2.97, 95%CI: 1.14-7.77; moderate, OR = 3.42, 95%CI: 1.07-10.91) and low/medium social support (low, OR = 4.81, 95% CI: 2.02-11.43; medium, OR = 9.70, 95%CI: 1.17-80.10) were more likely to be depressed, while higher monthly income (≥3000 Yuan RMB/month) was associated with lower risk for depression (OR = 0.27, 95%CI: 0.09-0.82). These findings indicate COVID-19 survivors with older age, having chronic conditions, without a spouse, low monthly income, low level of physical activity and social support had significantly increased risks for poor QoL and depression, and more attention should be given to this population.

Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) biomolecules play critial roles in the biomineralization process during the formation of amorphous calcium phosphate composites (ACPC), and ACPC is an important drug carrier due to its significant advantages of biocompatibility and biodegradability. Hence, studying the behavior of ACPC nanodrug carriers is crucial to investigate the structural regulation of biomimetic minerals and calcium phosphate (CaP)-based drug delivery systems. However, it is difficult to probe these interactions using traditional characterization methods. In this paper, XANES analysis together with STXM successfully provided a method to reveal the interaction of ATP and drug molecules with individual mesoporous ACPC. We found that the adenosine and phosphate groups of ATP biomolecules coordinated with Ca2+ and played critical roles in the formation of ACPC; drug molecules with the -COOH groups were linked to Ca2+via carboxylic acid groups primarily by electrostatic interactions, and the N-containing ring structures within the drug molecules also coordinated with Ca2+.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of childhood obesity is increasing and psychological disorder is a common comorbidity of obesity. We investigated the associations of physical activity (PA) and fruit and vegetable (FV) intake with well-being and depressive symptoms among obese schoolchildren. METHODS: Participants included 188 obese children aged 9.8 ± 0.7 years living in Wuhan, China. Self-administered questionnaires were used to collect the children's PA and FV intake information. PA was considered to be high if the child participated in sport and/or vigorous free play at least 3 days per week with 60 min per day, while sufficient FV intake was defined as consuming FV 5 times per day. Children's well-being and depressive symptoms were assessed by standard questionnaires. Multiple logistic regression was performed to determine the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of the relationships of PA and FV intake with well-being and depressive symptoms. RESULTS: High PA and sufficient FV intake were independently associated with significantly decreased risks for depressive symptoms (for PA, OR: 0.39, 95% CI: 0.16-0.92; for FV, OR: 0.21, 95% CI: 0.08-0.55) and poor well-being (for PA, OR: 0.35, 95% CI: 0.16-0.74), respectively. Furthermore, interactive inverse associations were observed between combined high PA and sufficient FV intake with poor well-being and depressive symptoms. Compared to their counterparts, children with high PA and sufficient FV intake had significantly reduced risk for poor well-being (OR: 0.16, 95%CI: 0.05-0.55) and depressive symptoms (OR: 0.12, 95% CI: 0.03-0.48). CONCLUSIONS: High PA and sufficient FV intake are inversely associated with the risks of poor well-being and depressive symptoms among obese Chinese schoolchildren.

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a school-based nutrition education and physical activity intervention on cardiovascular risk profile and mental health outcomes among Chinese children with obesity. Two primary schools were randomly allocated to the control group (CG) and the intervention group (IG). We selected children with obesity from 1340 students in the third and fourth grades as participants. The IG received 8 months of nutrition education and physical activity intervention, while the CG was waitlisted. A generalized estimating equation model was applied to assess repeated variables over time. A total of 171 children with obesity (99 IG and 72 CG) aged 9.8 ± 0.7 years completed the post-intervention stage. Compared with baseline, significant reductions were observed within the IG for depression and fasting plasma glucose at post-intervention. After adjusting for confounders, group and time interaction effects showed that the IG achieved improvements in the risk of poor well-being (p = 0.051) and social anxiety (p = 0.029), had decreased diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.020) and fasting plasma glucose (p < 0.001), and had significantly increased high-density lipoprotein (p < 0.001) from baseline to post-intervention relative to the CG. The effects of school-based nutrition education and physical activity intervention on children with obesity are diverse, including not only the improvement of metabolic health but also mental health promotion.

A one-pot universal approach with simple metal sputtering onto room temperature ionic liquids has been developed to prepare bimetal-nanoparticle (NP)-graphene hybrids, and the process is environmentally friendly and completely free of additives and byproducts. The graphene-supported bimetallic NPs have an Ag-based core and an Au/Pd-rich shell, demonstrated by the scanning transmission electron microscopy. The X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation reveals the occurrence of charge redistribution at both the Ag@Au and Ag@Pd core-shell interfaces. The as-prepared Ag@Au and Ag@Pd bimetal-NP-graphene hybrids are highly catalytically active for reduction of 4-nitrophenol, whose catalytic activity is superior to the corresponding monometallic hybrids. The catalytic superiority is ascribed to the electronic structure modification and morphological irregularity of the graphene-supported bimetallic NPs.

Adenovirus remains a significant threat to public health. Recent studies showed that bats can harbor diverse adenoviruses. To further investigate the distribution and genetic diversity of bat adenoviruses in China, we collected throat and anal swab samples of 11 bat species from 6 provinces of China, including Beijing, Hunan, Jiangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou and Hainan. Nested PCR was used to identify potential bat adenoviruses from the samples, and positive results were cloned and sequenced for genetic diversity study. In addition, nucleotide sequence alignments based on corresponding amino acid sequence similarities were used for phylogenetic analyses. Our results showed that about 20% of bat species in China are positive to adenoviruses, and Myotis ricketti is likely to be the most important host of bat adenoviruses in all locations. Moreover, we identified two diverse sequences of bat adenoviruses from the same sample of Ia io in Guizhou province of China. In general, the average nucleotide and amino acid sequence similarities of the conserved region of DNA polymerases of bat adenoviruses are 66.6% and 74.7%, respectively. The differences between bat species and their residences environments may have driven the adaptive evolution of the viruses, leading to the genetic diversity of the bat adenoviruses.

Solid state phosphorous is an important phosphorus speciation controlling the phosphorous bioavailability and mobility in the environment. Synchrotron-based X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy, with its unique advantage of being a non-destructive method in identifying the local chemical information of target element at molecular level in situ, has become one of the frontier technologies for characterizing the speciation of chemical substances and clarifying the microscopic mechanisms of chemical reactions, attracting extensive attention in the field of environmental chemistry. This paper briefly introduced the basic theory of phosphorus XANES spectroscopy, summarized the applications of XANES spectroscopy in the researches of solid state phosphorus speciation in minerals, soils, and organic fertilizers, and analyzed the challenges and prospects of the applications of XANES spectroscopy in identifying the solid state phosphorus speciation in the environmental samples. It was pointed out that XANES spectroscopy should combine with other microscopic spectroscopic techniques and macroscopic analytical methods, complementing each other, to provide a comprehensive and effective technical support for the research of the speciation characterization and transformation mechanisms of phosphorus in the environment.

An outbreak of hand foot and mouth disease occurred in Shang dong, China in 2009. Almost 20% of patient's swabs was positive for Coxsackie virus B5 (CVB5) identified by RT-PCR and sequencing. It was suggested that CVB5 may be another important pathogen for HFMD. Fifteen pairs of overlapping primers were designed and the genome sequence was sequenced. The genome of CVB5 was 7 399 nt in length, coding for 2 185aa. The genome displayed 80.6%-85.3% nucleotide sequence identity and 96.1%-96.9% amino acid sequence identity with another three CVB5 respectively. Phylogenetic analysis showed that different segment of genome underwent a distinct evolutionary and selective pressure. Simplot analysis displayed no evident recombination between genome of CVB5 and other HEV B viruses. The complete and characterized genome of CVB5/09 provides further insight into the genetics of CVB5 and other HEV B viruses, aiding in the surveillance and control of HFMD.
