RESUMEN

A general approach for regioselective deacetylation at sugar 3-OH of peracetylated 6-deoxy-C-glucopyranosides mediated by BCl3 was developed. The approach could be extended to other sugar-derived 6-deoxy-C-glycopyranosides, such as those derived from mannose, galactose, and rhamnose, with deacetylation occurring at varied sugar hydroxyl groups, and further extended to 4-deoxy-C-glucopyranosides with deacetylation occurring at sugar 3-OH. The approach would enable access to synthetically challenging carbohydrate derivatives. A possible mechanism of the regioselectivity was proposed.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: Noninvasive brain stimulation (NIBS) has been shown to effectively alleviate negative and positive symptoms in patients with schizophrenia. However, its impact on depressive symptoms and general psychopathology symptoms (GPSs), which are crucial for functional outcomes, remains uncertain. We aimed to compare the efficacy of various NIBS interventions in treating depressive symptoms and GPSs. METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive search of multiple databases and performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy of NIBS in treating depressive symptoms and GPSs in schizophrenia. The effect sizes of NIBS for depression symptoms and GPSs were estimated using standard mean differences (SMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Subgroup analyses were employed to examine potential influencing factors on the pooled SMD of NIBS for GPSs. RESULTS: Our search yielded 35 randomized controlled trials involving 1715 individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. The protocol of this systematic review was registered with INPLASY (protocol ID: INPLASY202320082). Neither repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) nor transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) demonstrated significant improvements in depressive symptoms compared to sham controls. NIBS exhibited a small-to-moderate effect size for GPSs, with a pooled SMD of -0.2956 (95% CI: -0.459 to -0.132) and a heterogeneity (I2) of 58.9% (95% CI: 41.5% to 71.1%; p < 0.01) based on a random-effects model. Subgroup analyses of different types of NIBS, different frequencies of rTMS, and different stimulation sites of rTMS revealed no significant differences. Only sex had a significant influence on the effect size of NIBS for general psychopathology symptoms (p < 0.05). However, rTMS might be superior to tDCS, and high-frequency rTMS outperformed low-frequency rTMS in treating GPSs. CONCLUSIONS: We found a small-to-moderate effect size of NIBS in alleviating GPSs in patients with schizophrenia. Both rTMS and tDCS were more effective than sham stimulation in reducing GPSs in schizophrenia. The frequency used was associated with rTMS efficacy for GPSs.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This paper explores the causes of paediatric inguinal hernia (PIH) recurrence after single-port laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure (SPLPEC). METHOD: From January 2015 to December 2020, the clinical data of 3480 children with PIHs who underwent SPLPEC were retrospectively reviewed, including 644 children who underwent SPLPEC with a homemade single-hook hernia needle from January 2015 to December 2016 and 2836 children who underwent the SPLPEC with a double-hook hernia needle and hydrodissection from January 2017 to December 2020. There were 39 recurrences (including communicating hydrocele) during the 2-5 years of follow-up. The findings of redo-laparoscopy were recorded and correlated with the revised video of the first operation to analyse the causes of recurrence. RESULT: Thirty-three males and 6 females experienced recurrence, and 8 patients had a unilateral communicating hydrocele. The median time to recurrence was 7.1 months (0-38). There were 20 cases (3.11%) in the single-hook group and 19 cases (0.67%) in the double-hook group. Based on laparoscopic findings, recurrence most probably resulted from multiple factors, including uneven tension of the ligation (10 cases), missing part of the peritoneum (14 cases), loose ligation (8 cases), broken knot (5 cases), and knot reaction (2 cases). All children who underwent repeat SPLPEC were cured by double ligations or reinforcement with medial umbilical ligament. CONCLUSION: The main cause of recurrence is improper ligation. Tension-free and complete PIH ligation are critical to the success of surgery, which requires avoiding the peritoneum skip area and the subcutaneous and muscular tissues. Redo-laparoscopic surgery was suitable for the treatment of recurrent inguinal hernia (RIH). For giant hernias, direct ligation of the internal ring incorporating the medial umbilical ligament (DIRIM) may be needed.

RESUMEN

2-(2-Phenylethyl)chromones (PECs) are the main bioactive components of agarwood which showed diverse pharmaceutical activities. Glycosylation is a useful structural modification method to improve compounds' druggability. However, PEC glycosides were rarely reported in nature which largely limited their further medicinal investigations and applications. In this study, the enzymatic glycosylation of four naturally separated PECs 1-4 was achieved using a promiscuous glycosyltransferase UGT71BD1 identified from Cistanche tubulosa. It could accept UDP-Glucose, UDP-N-acetylglucosamine and UDP-xylose as sugar donors and conduct the corresponding O-glycosylation of 1-4 with high conversion efficiencies. Three O-glucosylated products 1a (5-hydroxy-2-(2-phenylethyl)chromone 8-O-ß-D-glucopyranoside), 2a (8-chloro-2-(2-phenylethyl)chromone 6-O-ß-D-glucopyranoside) and 3a (2-(2-phenylethyl)chromone 6-O-ß-D-glucopyranoside) were prepared and structurally elucidated as novel PEC glucosides based on NMR spectroscopic analyses. Subsequent pharmaceutical evaluation found that 1a showed remarkably improved cytotoxicity against HL-60 cells, whose cell inhibition rate was 19 times higher than that of its aglycon 1. The IC50 value of 1a was further determined to be 13.96 ± 1.10 µM, implying its potential as a promising antitumor-leading candidate. To improve the production of 1, docking, simulation and site-directed mutagenesis were performed. The important role of P15 in the glucosylation of PECs was discovered. Besides, a mutant K288A with a two-fold increased yield for 1a production was also afforded. This research reported the enzymatic glycosylation of PECs for the first time, and also provide an eco-friendly pathway for the alternative production of PEC glycosides for leading compounds discovery.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Bruises caused by mechanical collision during the harvesting and storage and transportation period are difficult to detect using traditional machine vision technologies because there is no obvious difference in appearance between bruised and sound tissues. As a result of its fast and non-destructive characteristics, hyperspectral imaging technology is a potential tool for non-destructive detection of fruit surface defects. RESULTS: In the present study, visible near infrared hyperspectral reflectance images of healthy apples and bruised apples at 6, 12 and 24 h were obtained. To reduce hyperspectral data dimension, optimal wavelength selection algorithms including principal component analysis (PCA) and band ratio methods were utilized to select the effective wavelengths and enhance the contrast between bruised and sound tissues. Then pseudo-color image transformation technology combining with improved watershed segmentation algorithm (IWSA) were employed to recognize the bruise spots. The result obtained showed that band ratio images obtained better detection performance than that of PCA. The G component derived from pseudo-color image of λ 821 - λ 752 / λ 821 + λ 752 followed by IWSA obtained the best segmentation performance for bruise spots. Finally, a multispectral imaging system for the detection of bruised apple was developed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed two-band ratio algorithm, obtaining recognition rates of 93.3%, 92.2% and 92.5% for healthy, bruised and overall apples, respectively. CONCLUSION: The bruise detection algorithm proposed in the present study has potential to detect bruised apple in online practical applications and hyperspectral reflectance imaging offers a useful reference for the detection of surficial defects of fruit. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Diacylglycerol (DAG)-enriched oil has been attracting attention because of its nutritional benefits and biological functions, although the composition of its various free fatty acids (FFAs) and an unclear relationship between substrate and yield make it difficult to be identified and qualified with respect to its production. In the present study, linoleic acid-enriched diacylglycerol (LA-DAG) was synthesized and enriched from Camellia oil by the esterification process using the combi-lipase Lipozyme TL IM/RM IM system. RESULTS: The relationship between FFA composition and DAG species productivity was revealed. The results showed that heterogeneous FFA with a major constituent (more than 50%) exhibited higher DAG productivity and inhibited triacylglycerol productivity compared to homogeneous constituents. Joint characterization by high-performance liquid chromatography-evaporative light scattering detection, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and ultra-performance liquid chromatography-heated electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry identified that DAG components contained dilinoleic acid acyl glyceride, linoleyl-oleyl glyceride and dioleic acid acyl glyceride in esterification products. Under the optimum conditions, 60.4% 1,3-DAG and 61.3% LA-DAG in the crude product at 1 h reaction were obtained, and further purified to 81.7% LA-DAG and 94.7% DAG via silica column chromatography. CONCLUSION: The present study provides a guideline for the identification of DAG species, as well as a structure-guided preparation method of DAG-enriched oils via the cost-effective combi-lipase. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMEN

As a biocatalyst, enzyme has the advantages of high catalytic efficiency, strong reaction selectivity, specific target products, mild reaction conditions, and environmental friendliness, and serves as an important tool for the synthesis of complex organic molecules. With the continuous development of gene sequencing technology, molecular biology, genetic manipulation, and other technologies, the diversity of enzymes increases steadily and the reactions that can be catalyzed are also gradually diversified. In the process of enzyme-catalyzed synthesis, the majority of common enzymatic reactions can be achieved by single enzyme catalysis, while many complex reactions often require the participation of two or more enzymes. Therefore, the combination of multiple enzymes together to construct the multi-enzyme cascade reactions has become a research hotspot in the field of biochemistry. Nowadays, the biosynthetic pathways of more natural products with complex structures have been clarified, and secondary metabolic enzymes with novel catalytic activities have been identified, discovered, and combined in enzymatic synthesis of natural/unnatural molecules with diverse structures. This study summarized a series of examples of multi-enzyme-catalyzed cascades and highlighted the application of cascade catalysis methods in the synthesis of carbohydrates, nucleosides, flavonoids, terpenes, alkaloids, and chiral molecules. Furthermore, the existing problems and solutions of multi-enzyme-catalyzed cascade method were discussed, and the future development direction was prospected.

RESUMEN

Abnormal sperm parameters such as oligospermia, asthenospermia, and teratozoospermia result in male factor infertility. Previous studies have shown that mitochondria play an important role in human spermatozoa motility. But the related pathogenesis is far from elucidated. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between gene associated with retinoid-interferon-induced mortality 19 (GRIM19) and asthenospermia. In this study, Grim19 knockout model (Grim19+/- mouse) was created through genome engineering. We showed that compared with WT mice, the sperm count and motility of Grim19+/- mice were significantly reduced. Grim19 may contribute to sperm count and vitality by influencing the mitochondrial membrane potential, intracellular reactive oxygen species production, and increasing cell apoptosis. The spermatogenic cells of all levels in the lumen of the seminiferous tubules were sparsely arranged, and the intercellular space became larger in the testis tissue of Grim19+/- mice. The serum testosterone concentration is significantly reduced in Grim19+/- mice. The expression of steroid synthesis-related proteins STAR, CYP11A1, and HSD3B was decreased in Grim19+/- mice. To further confirm whether changes in testosterone biosynthesis were due to Grim19 downregulation, we validated this result using Leydig cells and TM3 cells. We also found that Notch signaling pathway was involved in Grim19-mediated testosterone synthesis to some extent. In conclusion, we revealed a mechanism underlying Grim19 mediated spermatozoa motility and suggested that Grim19 affected the synthesis of testosterone and steroid hormones in male mouse partly through regulating Notch signal pathways.

RESUMEN

RESEARCH QUESTION: Does the absence of GRIM19 affect pyroptosis of macrophages? Is the release of IL-1ß caused by pyroptosis a relevant factor in the regulation of adenomyosis progression? DESIGN: Endometrial tissues were collected from patients with (n = 12) and without (n = 12) adenomyosis. GRIM19 expression of adenomyosis tissues was analysed by western blot and real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). In GRIM19 knockdown macrophages, pyroptosis-related factors expressions were also measured by western blot and RT-PCR. The human endometrial stromal cells (HESC) were co-cultured with GRIM19-depleted macrophages and IL-1ß neutralizing antibody to detect the effects of pyroptosis of macrophages on apoptosis, proliferation and migration of HESC. RESULTS: The expression of GRIM19 was significantly lower in adenomyosis (P = 0.0002). In THP-1-derived macrophages, the expression of NLRP3 (P < 0.0001), ASC (P = 0.0176), caspase-1 (P = 0.0368), GSDMD (P = 0.0453) and IL-1ß (P = 0.0208) are increased after downregulation of GRIM19. GRIM19 knockdown induced the release of IL-1ß (P = 0.0195) in THP-1-derived macrophages. The apoptosis of HESC co-cultured with GRIM19 knockdown macrophages was significantly inhibited (P < 0.0001), the proliferation (P = 0.0254) and migration (P < 0.0001) were markedly promoted. Existence of IL-1ß neutralizing antibody in supernatants recovered the effects (P < 0.0001) of GRIM19 knockdown macrophages on HESC. CONCLUSIONS: GRIM19 downregulation induces pyroptosis of macrophages through NLRP3 pathway, increases the secretion of IL-1ß and promotes adenomyosis progression.

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: The abnormal proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) is a key pathological characteristic of vascular proliferative diseases. Mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) is an evolutionarily conserved serine/threonine kinase that plays an important role in regulating cell growth, motility, proliferation, and survival, as well as gene expression in response to hypoxia, growth factors, and nutrients. Increasing evidence shows that mTOR also regulates VSMC proliferation in vascular proliferative diseases and that mTOR inhibitors, such as rapamycin, effectively restrain VSMC proliferation. However, the molecular mechanisms linking mTOR to vascular proliferative diseases remain elusive. In our review, we summarize the key roles of the mTOR and the recent discoveries in vascular proliferative diseases, focusing on the therapeutic potential of mTOR inhibitors to target the mTOR signaling pathway for the treatment of vascular proliferative diseases. In this study, we discuss mTOR inhibitors as promising candidates to prevent VSMC-associated vascular proliferative diseases.

RESUMEN

Multiple-glycosylated glycosides are a major source of bioactive leads. However, most of the currently reported glycosyltransferases (GTases) mainly catalyze glycosylation of aglycones without sugar group substitution. GTases accepting diverse glycosides as substrates are rarely reported. In this article, a new GTase UGT71BD1 was identified from Cistanche tubulosa, a desert herb plant abundant with various phenylethanoid glycosides (PhGs). Interestingly, UGT71BD1 showed no activity toward the aglycone of PhGs. Instead, it could catalyze the further glycosylation of PhG compounds to produce new phenylethanoid multiglycosylated glycosides, including the natural rarely separated tetraglycoside PhGs. Extensive assays found the unprecedented substrate promiscuity of UGT71BD1 toward diverse glycosides including flavonoid glycosides, stilbene glycosides, and coumarin glycosides, performing further mono- or diglycosylation with efficient conversion rates. Using UGT71BD1, six multiglycosylated glycosides were prepared and structurally identified by NMR spectroscopy. These products showed enhanced pharmacological activities compared with the substrates. Docking, dynamic simulation, and mutagenesis studies identified key residues for UGT71BD1's activity and revealed that the sugar modules in glycosides play crucial roles in substrate recognition, thus partly illuminating the unusual substrate preference of UGT71BD1 toward diverse glycosides. UGT71BD1 could be a potential enzyme tool for glycosylation of diverse glycosides.

RESUMEN

A rapid and nondestructive method is greatly important for the classification of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) concentration of single maize kernel to satisfy the ever-growing needs of consumers for food safety. A novel method for classification of AFB1 concentration of single maize kernel was developed on the basis of the near-infrared (NIR) hyperspectral imaging (1100-2000 nm). Four groups of AFB1 samples with different concentrations (10, 20, 50, and 100 ppb) and one group of control samples were prepared, which were preprocessed with Savitzky-Golay (SG) smoothing and first derivative (FD) algorithms for their raw NIR spectra. A key wavelength selection method, combining the variance and order of average spectral intensity, was proposed on the basis of pretreated spectra. Moreover, principal component analysis (PCA) was conducted to reduce the dimensionality of hyperspectral data. Finally, a classification model for AFB1 concentrations was developed through linear discriminant analysis (LDA), combined with five key wavelengths and the first three PCs. The results show that the proposed method achieved an ideal performance for classifying AFB1 concentrations in a single maize kernel with overall accuracy, with an F1-score and Kappa values of 95.56%, 0.9554, and 0.9444, respectively, as well as the test accuracy yield of 88.67% for independent validation samples. The combinations of variance and order of average spectral intensity can be used for key wavelength selection which, combined with PCA, can achieve an ideal dimensionality reduction effect for model development. The findings of this study have positive significance for the classification of AFB1 concentration of maize kernels.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Maize is one of the most important food crops in the world. Many different varieties of maize seeds are similar in size and appearance, so distinguishing the varieties of maize seed is a significant research topic. This study used hyperspectral image processing coupled with convolutional neural network (CNN) and a subregional voting method to recognize different varieties of maize seed. RESULTS: First, visible and near-infrared (NIR-visible) hyperspectral images were obtained. Savitzky-Golay (SG) smoothing and first derivative (FD) were used to pretreat the raw spectra and highlight the spectral differences of samples of different varieties. Second, the region of interest (ROI) of each sample was divided into several subregions according to the shape and the number of pixels. Then, a method was proposed for reshaping the images of pixel spectra for the CNN and the training model was established. Finally, using subregional voting, one prediction result was generated from the prediction results of several original subregions in one sample. The results showed that, for six varieties of normal maize seeds, the tests identified embryoid and non-embryoid forms with 93.33% and 95.56% accuracy, respectively. For six varieties of sweet maize seeds, the test accuracy in embryoid and non-embryoid forms was 97.78% and 98.15%, respectively. CONCLUSION: The maize seed was identified accurately. The present study demonstrated that the CNN model for spectral image coupled with subregional voting represents a new approach for the identification of varieties of maize seed. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMEN

A large parallax-free gas diffraction meter based on a thinner-THGEM (thick gaseous electron multiplier) has been developed at the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF). A thinner-THGEM of thickness 200 µm is adopted, which can be shaped into a curve to eliminate parallax-error effects. The detector is designed to have a 48° open angle positioned 20 cm from the powder samples. A front-end electronics board with 128 channels direct-current mode was adapted for the 8 keV BSRF beamline with 0.2 ns/100 ns stable duty cycle. Two powder samples, TiO2 and SnO2, were tested separately. The measured spectra with an angular resolution of 0.148 ± 0.081° are consistent with the data from the powder diffraction file. Combining the gas gain of the thinner-THGEM with the electronic circuit dynamic range, a very broad dynamic range of about 107 could be obtained.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The aim is to analyze the clinical characteristics of intermediate trophoblastic tumor (ITT). METHODS: 12 cases diagnosed at Qilu Hospital of Shandong University from January 2005 to December 2016 were investigated. Additionally, 50 cases were selected from MEDLINE and CBM databases between January 2010 and December 2016. The clinical data extracted from those aforementioned 62 cases were analyzed. RESULTS: There were 42 cases with placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT), 19 cases with epithelioid trophoblastic tumor (ETT), and 1 case with mixed type (PSTT and ETT). No significant differences were found between PSTT and ETT in terms of age, type of antecedent pregnancy, main complaints, serum ß-hCG peak, FIGO stage or prognosis. However, the interval between antecedent pregnancy and the onset was longer in ETT than in PSTT (P = 0.01). FIGO stage was irrelevant to serum ß-hCG (P = 0.263). All 62 cases underwent surgeries and seven cases preserved fertility. Fifteen cases with high risk factors were not treated with adjuvant chemotherapy. Univariate analysis results showed that age ≧ 40 years, serum ß-hCG peak ≧ 1000 IU/L and nonstandard treatment were associated with poor survival, but only age remained significant on multivariate analysis for ITT (P = 0.018). CONCLUSION: PSTT and ETT have similar clinical characteristics generally. Serum ß-hCG can not reflect the progress of ITT. Age ≧ 40 years is the independent high risk factor for ITT.

RESUMEN

Currently, the detection of blueberry internal bruising focuses mostly on single hyperspectral imaging (HSI) systems. Attempts to fuse different HSI systems with complementary spectral ranges are still lacking. A push broom based HSI system and a liquid crystal tunable filter (LCTF) based HSI system with different sensing ranges and detectors were investigated to jointly detect blueberry internal bruising in the lab. The mean reflectance spectrum of each berry sample was extracted from the data obtained by two HSI systems respectively. The spectral data from the two spectroscopic techniques were analyzed separately using feature selection method, partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), and support vector machine (SVM), and then fused with three data fusion strategies at the data level, feature level, and decision level. The three data fusion strategies achieved better classification results than using each HSI system alone. The decision level fusion integrating classification results from the two instruments with selected relevant features achieved more promising results, suggesting that the two HSI systems with complementary spectral ranges, combined with feature selection and data fusion strategies, could be used synergistically to improve blueberry internal bruising detection. This study was the first step in demonstrating the feasibility of the fusion of two HSI systems with complementary spectral ranges for detecting blueberry bruising, which could lead to a multispectral imaging system with a few selected wavelengths and an appropriate detector for bruising detection on the packing line.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The present study aimed to establish a method for the detection and quantification of azodicarbonamide (ADC) in flour using hyperspectral imaging technology. Hyperspectral images of pure flour, pure ADC and flour-ADC mixtures with different concentrations of ADC were collected. F-values of one-way analysis of variance for all possible wavebands within the spectra of the flour and ADC were calculated, and the maximum value indicated that the two wavebands have more significant differences, i.e. the optimal two wavebands. Threshold segmentation was used for band ratio images of two wavebands to create a binary image. This allowed visual identification of ADC-rich pixels in the mixtures. RESULTS: The two wavebands with the largest difference between flour and ADC were 2039 nm and 1892 nm. Using the binary image construction method, different concentrations of ADC in flour were identified. The minimum detected concentration was 0.2 g kg-1 . In the mixtures, the number of ADC-rich pixels detected had a good linear relationship with the ADC concentrations, with a correlation coefficient of 0.9845. CONCLUSION: This study indicated that the band ratio algorithm combination with threshold segmentation for hyperspectral images provides a non-destructive method for detecting and quantifying of ADC in flour. © 2017 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMEN

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) has the highest mortality among various types of gynecological malignancies. Most patients die of metastasis and recurrence due to cisplatin resistance. Thus, it is urgent to develop novel therapies to cure this disease. CCK-8 assay showed that nigericin exhibited strong cytotoxicity on A2780 and SKOV3 cell lines. Flow cytometry indicated that nigericin could induce cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase and promote cell apoptosis. Boyden chamber assay revealed that nigericin could inhibit migration and invasion in a dose-dependent manner by suppressing epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in EOC cells. These effects were mediated, at least partly, by the Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway. Our results demonstrated that nigericin could inhibit EMT during cell invasion and metastasis through the canonical Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway. Nigericin may prove to be a novel therapeutic strategy that is effective in patients with metastatic EOC.

RESUMEN

Surfactant adsorption during emulsification can be quantified by measuring the acting interfacial tension using a Y-junction microfluidic device. To obtain insight into the surfactant transport mechanism to the interface, the effect of shear force on the acting interfacial tension was assessed by systematically varying the continuous phase viscosity and velocity. Varying the continuous phase viscosity did not affect the acting interfacial tension, indicating that surfactant adsorption during Y-junction emulsification is not diffusion-limited. The acting interfacial tension was inversely dependent on the continuous phase velocity, which indicates that surfactant adsorption is governed by convective mass transfer resulting from the continuous phase velocity. The acting interfacial tension can be measured in the sub-millisecond time scale and under convective transport conditions using the Y-junction. These conditions are relevant to industrial emulsification and cannot be assessed by conventional tensiometry techniques (e.g., drop tensiometers) where surfactant adsorption is mostly driven by diffusion. We believe, therefore, that this method can be used to understand emulsifier adsorption during industrial emulsification, which can, in turn, be used to rationally design emulsion formulations and processes.

RESUMEN

Non-destructive detection for soluble solids content (SSC) is important to improve watermelon's internal quality, which attracts more and more attention from consumers. In order to realize the precise detection for SSC of mini watermelon's whole surface by using Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and reduce the influence of detective position variability on the accuracy of NIR prediction model for SSC, the diffused transmission spectra and soluble solids content were collected from three different detective positions of 'jingxiu' watermelon, including the equator, calyx and stem. The prediction models of single detective position and mixed three detective positions for SSC were established with Partial least square (PLS). Successive projections algorithm (SPA) and competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) were adopted to select effective variables of NIR spectroscopy for SSC of watermelon as well. The results showed that the prediction model of mixed three detective positions was better than the model of single detective position. Meanwhile, 42 characteristic variables of NIR spectroscopy selected with CARS were used to establish PLS prediction model for SSC. The prediction model was simplified significantly and the prediction accuracy for SSC was improved greatly. The correlation coefficient of prediction (RP) and root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) by CARS-PLS were 0.892, 0.684 °Brix for the equator, 0.905, 0.621 °Brix for the calyx, 0.899, 0.721 °Brix for the stem, respectively. However, the prediction result of SPA-PLS established by 19 characteristic wavelength variables of NIR spectroscopy was bad for the equator, calyx and stem detective positions. The correlation coefficient of prediction (RP) is less than 0.752 and root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) is relatively high. It was proposed that the PLS prediction model established by mixed three different detective positions with effective characteristic wavelength variables selected by CARS can improve the prediction accuracy for SSC. And the CARS-PLS prediction model can achieve fast and precise detection for SSC of mini watermelon's whole surface. The influence of detective position variability on the accuracy of NIR prediction model could be reduced simultaneously. This paper could provide theoretical basis for calibrating NIR prediction model for SSC of mini watermelon. It also could provide reference for developing the portable and non-destructive detection equipment for soluble solids content of mini watermelon's whole surface.
