Background: Patient scar assessment scale (PSAS) is a reliable and standard tool for assessment of scars by the observer and the patient. Till now the scale has not been translated to Hindi. The objective of the study was to translate and validate the PSAS to Hindi. Materials and Methods: We did forward and backward translation of the English PSAS together with its validation. In total, 64 patients with postburn facial scars were included. The validation committee consisted of 6 bilingual members. Results: The PSAS-Hindi showed good internal consistency with Cronbach's α of 0.86. Test-retest reliability showed good correlation with intra class coefficient being 0.94 (95% confidence interval: 0.83-0.97). Conclusion: The PSAS was successfully translated to Hindi, and cross-cultural adaptation was made.

Background: Sleep state misperception (SSM) is seen among patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) as well as those having insomnia. Moreover, OSA and insomnia can also be comorbid. This study aims at finding the proportion of SSM and "Comorbid Insomnia with OSA" (COMISA) among patients of OSA and chronic insomnia. Macroachitecture of sleep was also compared across groups. Methods: This study utilized the retrospective laboratory and medical records of two groups of patients: chronic insomnia and OSA. Sleep disorders were diagnosed according to standard criteria. Daytime sleepiness was examined using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale. Diagnosis of SSM was based on the difference between subjective and objective sleep onset latency (Subjective SOL > 1.5 × Objective SOL). Results: Sixteen adult subjects were included in each group. Based on the difference between subjective and objective sleep onset latency, SSM was reported by 62.5% subjects of chronic insomnia and 56.25% subjects having OSA (OR = 1.29; 95% CI = 0.31-5.33; P = 0.79). The proportion of COMISA in subjects with chronic insomnia was 18% and among subjects with OSA, it was 43%. Effect size for the proportion was calculated as odds ratio (33.96; 95% CI = 7.48-154.01; P < 0.0002). Thus, the odds for COMISA were higher among subjects with OSA than those with chronic Insomnia. The three groups (OSA, COMISA and Chronic Insomnia) were comparable with regard to the macro-architecture of sleep. Conclusion: SSM is common among subjects with OSA and chronic insomnia. COMISA was commoner among patients with OSA compared to those with chronic insomnia. Macro-architecture of sleep is comparable among groups.

PURPOSE: COVID-19 lockdown has brought a complete shutdown of physical interaction with school friends. There was a need to assess their social and sleep habits during lockdown. METHODS: A survey form was developed with the help of mentors, teachers and school children and circulated by snowball sampling method. 183 responses from Indian school children of age group between 12 and 17 years, from different states were received. RESULTS: It was found that there was a significant alteration of sleep habits in these school children during lockdown. Many school children reported that parents showed leniency in the phone habits of school children and their interaction with friends on social media remained higher during lockdown. Despite that, they were missing their friends and wanted to meet them in-person and they felt that not doing so, was causing a reduction in focus on academics and concentration and making them lose interest in general activities and even in hobbies. Sleep quality had reduced in Indian school going students during lockdown and decreased parental control on phones was observed. CONCLUSION: The deterioration in social life of the subjects needs to be addressed and taken care of by proper planning of social interaction with ensuring physical distancing and other precautions. Sleep habits should also be modified properly by spreading awareness by parents and school authorities. Such combined measures would lead to optimal performance of school going teenagers, which seems to have suffered in this lockdown.

AIM: To compare the quality of life and psychological impact of cases of facial burn scar between male and female patients. STUDY TYPE: An observational cross sectional study done in a tertiary care university level teaching hospital, on a hospital based sample over a period ranging from January 2018 to July 2019. METHODOLOGY: The study was carried out on 32 patients of facial burn scar, who were screened for psychiatric diagnoses by MINI International Neuropsychiatric Interview; severity of depression and anxiety assessed by HDRS and HAM A; assessed for QoL and scar ratings of both patient and observer. QoL was assessed using the WHO QOL BREF questionnaire. The scar assessment was done with the help of POSAS by interviewing the patient and examination of the scar. RESULTS: None of other socio-demographic variables patient showed any significant association with the number of psychiatric diagnoses of the patient or QoL domains; barring years of schooling, which had a significant positive correlation with the psychological domain score of QoL. Being male or female also did not show any significant differences with the anxiety or depression severity. No burn or scar related variable could reach significant association, except scar itching, stiffness scores of POSAS P and overall scar opinion score of POSAS O, with the number of psychiatric diagnoses of the patient. Extent of scar had significant negative associations with the physical and psychological domains of QoL. Significant negative correlations were found between scar variables like stiffness, pigmentation, relief, pliability, and overall opinion and QoL domain scores. The total observer score of POSAS and the overall opinion of observer had much stronger negative correlation than the patient score; the latter having a significant association with the depression severity as well. CONCLUSION: No statistically significant gender difference in QoL and psychological impact of patients with facial burn scar were found. However educational level was found to positively influence the psychological well-being of the patients; whereas scar extent was found to negatively affect the physical and psychological domains of QoL.

OBJECTIVE: The aim is to study the knowledge and attitude of medical undergraduate students regarding obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study involved 324 medical undergraduate students in clinical semesters. Knowledge and attitude regarding adult OSA were assessed using the obstructive sleep apnea knowledge and attitude (OSAKA), and to evaluate the same about childhood OSA, OSAKA-KIDS was used. RESULTS: Results showed that the study population was not informed about OSA among adults as well as kids. Most of the participants could recognize that snoring was a common symptom of adult OSA but failed to identify the association between childhood OSA and hyperactivity. The participants had a good knowledge about the pathophysiology of OSA. More than 80% of students reported that OSA is an important disorder and that these patients should be identified. CONCLUSION: Medical undergraduates are poorly informed about OSA.

The goal of this paper is to perform 3D object detection in the context of autonomous driving. Our method aims at generating a set of high-quality 3D object proposals by exploiting stereo imagery. We formulate the problem as minimizing an energy function that encodes object size priors, placement of objects on the ground plane as well as several depth informed features that reason about free space, point cloud densities and distance to the ground. We then exploit a CNN on top of these proposals to perform object detection. In particular, we employ a convolutional neural net (CNN) that exploits context and depth information to jointly regress to 3D bounding box coordinates and object pose. Our experiments show significant performance gains over existing RGB and RGB-D object proposal methods on the challenging KITTI benchmark. When combined with the CNN, our approach outperforms all existing results in object detection and orientation estimation tasks for all three KITTI object classes. Furthermore, we experiment also with the setting where LIDAR information is available, and show that using both LIDAR and stereo leads to the best result.
