RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Psittacosis can cause severe community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). The clinical manifestations of psittacosis range from subclinical to fulminant psittacosis with multi-organ failure. It is essential to summarize the clinical characteristic of patients with severe psittacosis accompanied by acute hypoxic respiratory failure (AHRF). METHODS: This retrospective study included patients with severe psittacosis caused CAP accompanied by AHRF from 19 tertiary hospitals of China. We recorded the clinical data, antimicrobial therapy, respiratory support, complications, and outcomes. Chlamydia psittaci was detected on the basis of metagenomic next-generation sequencing performed on bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples. Patient outcomes were compared between the treatment methods. RESULTS: This study included 45 patients with severe CAP and AHRF caused by psittacosis from April 2018 to May 2021. The highest incidence of these infections was between September and April. There was a history of poultry contact in 64.4% of the patients. The median PaO2/FiO2 of the patients was 119.8 (interquartile range, 73.2 to 183.6) mmHg. Four of 45 patients (8.9%) died in the ICU, and the median ICU duration was 12 days (interquartile range, 8 to 21) days. There were no significant differences between patients treated with fluoroquinolone initially and continued after the diagnosis, fluoroquinolone initially followed by tetracycline, and fluoroquinolone combined with tetracycline. CONCLUSION: Psittacosis caused severe CAP seems not rare, especially in the patients with the history of exposure to poultry or birds. Empirical treatment that covers atypical pathogens may benefit such patients, which fluoroquinolones might be considered as an alternative.

RESUMEN

Accurate quantification of dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) has been a challenge due to the cumulative analytical errors in the conventional method via subtracting dissolved inorganic nitrogen species (DIN) from total dissolved nitrogen (TDN). Size exclusion chromatography coupled with an organic nitrogen detector (SEC-OND) has been developed as a direct method for quantification and characterization of DON. However, the applications of SEC-OND method still subject to poor separations between DON and DIN species and unsatisfied N recoveries of macromolecules. In this study, we packed a series of SEC columns with different lengths and resin materials for separation of different N species and designed an independent vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) oxidation device for complete oxidation converting N species to nitrate. To guarantee sufficient N recoveries, the operation conditions were optimized as oxidation time ≥ 30 min, injection mass (sample concentration × injection volume) < 1000 µL × mg-N/L for macromolecular proteins, and neutral pH mobile eluent. The dissolved O2 concentration in SEC mobile phase determined the upper limit of VUV oxidation at a specific oxidation time. Compared to conventional HW50S column (20 × 250 mm), HW40S column (20 × 350 mm) with mobile phase comprising of 1.5 g/L Na2HPO4·2H2O + 2.5 g/L KH2PO4 (pH = 6.85) could achieve a better separation of DON, nitrite, nitrate, and ammonia. When applied to river water, lake water, wastewater effluent, groundwater, and landfill leachate, the SEC-OND method could quantify DON as well as DIN species accurately and conveniently even the DIN/TDN ratio reached 0.98.

RESUMEN

As the utilization of degradable polymer coatings increased, the accompanying trade-off between good degradability and high-efficiency antidiatom adhesion due to their hydrophobic nature remains unresolved. The study presents a new hydrophobic surface-fragmenting coating consisting of degradable hyperbranched polymers (hereafter denoted as h-LLAx) synthesized by reversible complexation-mediated copolymerization with isobornyl acrylate (IBOA) and divinyl-functional oligomeric poly(l-lactide) (OLLA-V2), both derived from biomass, that exhibited superior resistance (∼0 cell mm-2) to marine diatom Navicula incerta (N. incerta) attachment with higher OLLA content. The combined impact of the microscale hollow semisphere micelles that self-assembled degradable hyperbranched copolymers and hydrolysis-driven self-renewable surfaces following immersion in seawater may account for the remarkable resistance of h-LLAx coatings against N. incerta. Detailed investigations were conducted across multiple perspectives, from hydrolytic degradation to broad-spectrum antibacterial attachment to ecotoxicity assessment. The excellent features of high resistance to marine diatoms and bacterial attachment, degradability, and environmental friendliness make the as-prepared h-LLAx coatings widely sought after for antifouling coating applications.

RESUMEN

To overcome difficulties in the removal of duodenal bulb lesions, especially those in anatomically challenging locations, we developed the endoscopic resection via antral submucosal tunneling (ERAST) technique. In this study, we evaluated the feasibility and safety of ERAST for the removal of superficial and subepithelial lesions in the duodenal bulb. This was a single-center retrospective study of 10 patients with lesions in the bulb. Submucosal tunneling from the gastric antrum to the duodenum was performed to facilitate en bloc tumor resection in the bulb. The en bloc resection rate, postoperative bleeding, and perforation were the primary endpoints. Ten lesions (four superficial and six subepithelial), with an average size of 19.1 ± 9.2 mm, were resected en bloc by ERAST. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy follow-up after 2 months indicated complete wound healing in all patients. In our primary experience, ERAST was found to be a feasible and safe endoscopic resection technique for the removal of lesions in the duodenal bulb, especially those that are difficult to access.

RESUMEN

[Nb(η6-C6H3Me3)2] reacts with ethylenediamine (en) solutions of K4Ge9 in the presence of 18-crown-6 to give [(η6-C6H3Me3)NbHGe6]2- (1) and [(η6-C6H3Me3)NbGe6Nb(η6-C6H3Me3)]2- (2) as their corresponding [K(18-crown-6)]+ salts. The crystalline solids are dark brown, air-sensitive, and sparingly soluble or insoluble in most solvents. The [K(18-crown-6)]+ salts of cluster ions 1 and 2 have been characterized by energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, NMR studies, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and electrospray ionization time-of-flight (ESI-TOF) mass spectrometry studies. Cluster ions 1 and 2 have markedly different [Ge6] moieties: an electron-deficient carborane-like subunit in 1 and a two-center, two-electron cyclohexane-like subunit in 2.

RESUMEN

The icosahedral [M@Pb12 ]3- (M=Co(1), Rh(2), Ir(3)) cluster ions were prepared from K4 Pb9 and Co(dppe)Cl2 (dppe=1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane)/[Rh(PPh3 )3 Cl]/[Ir(cod)Cl]2 (cod=1,5-cyclooctadiene), respectively, in the presence of 18-crown-6/ 2,2,2-cryptand in ethylenediamine/toluene solvent mixtures. The [K(2,2,2-cryptand)]+ salt of 1 and the [K(18-crown-6)]+ salt of 3 were characterized via X-ray crystallography; the ions 1 and 3 are isostructural and isoelectronic to the [Rh@Pb12 ]3- (2) ion as well as to the group 10 clusters [M'@Pb12 ]2- (M'=Ni, Pd, Pt). The ions are all 26-electron clusters with near perfect icosahedral Ih point symmetry. Clusters 1-3 show record downfield 207 Pb NMR chemical shifts due to σ-aromaticity of the cluster framework. Calculated and observed 207 Pb NMR chemical shifts and 207 Pb-x M J-couplings (x M=59 Co, 103 Rh, 193 Ir) are in excellent agreement and DFT analysis shows that the variations of 207 Pb NMR chemical shifts for the [M@Pb12 ]2, 3- ions (M=Co, Rh, Ir, Ni, Pd, Pt) are mainly governed by the perpendicularly oriented σ11 component of the chemical shift anisotropy tensor. The laser desorption ionization time-of-flight (LDI-TOF) mass spectra contain the molecular ions as well as several new gas phase clusters derived from the parents. The DFT-minimized structures of these ions are described.

RESUMEN

1,4-Dioxane is a widely used industrial solvent that has been frequently detected in aquatic environments. However, the hepatotoxicity of long-term dioxane exposure at environmentally relevant concentrations and underlying mechanisms of liver damage remain unclear. In this study, male mice were exposed to dioxane at concentrations of 0.5, 5, 50, and 500 ppm for 12 weeks, followed by histopathological examination of liver sections and multiomics investigation of the hepatic transcriptome, serum metabolome, and gut microbiome. Results showed that dioxane exposure at environmentally relevant concentrations induced hepatic inflammation and caused changes in the hepatic transcriptome and serum metabolic profiles. However, no inflammatory response was observed after in vitro exposure to all concentrations of dioxane and its in vivo metabolites. The gut microbiome was considered to be contributing to this apparently contradictory response. Increased levels of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) may be produced by some gut microbiota, such as Porphyromonadaceae and Helicobacteraceae, after in vivo 500 ppm of dioxane exposure. LPS may enter the blood circulation through an impaired intestinal wall and aggravate hepatic inflammation in mice. This study provides novel insight into the underlying mechanisms of hepatic inflammation induced by dioxane and highlights the need for concerns about environmentally relevant concentrations of dioxane exposure.

RESUMEN

AIM: To compare feasibility and safety after gastrointestinal checkup by standing-type magnetically controlled capsule endoscopy (SMCE) and conventional gastroscopy. METHODS: This was a prospective multicenter, blinded study that compared SMCE with gastroscopy in patients from April 2018 to July 2018. All patients first underwent SMCE and then subsequently had gastroscopy with i.v. anesthesia. We calculated the compliance rates of gastric lesion detection by SMCE using gastroscopy as the standard. Capsule retention rate, incidence of adverse events, and patient satisfaction were documented throughout the study. RESULTS: One hundred and sixty-one patients who completed SMCE and gastroscopy were included in the analysis. Positive compliance rate among SMCE and gastroscopy was 92.0% (95% CI: 80.77%-97.78%). Negative compliance rate was 95.5% (89.80%, 98.52%). Moreover, overall compliance rate was 94.41% (89.65%, 97.41%). Sixty-four pathological outcomes were identified. Of these 64 outcomes, 50 were detected by both procedures. The gastroscopy method neglected seven findings (such as five erosions, one polyp, and one ulcer). Furthermore, SMCE also overlooked seven lesions (i.e. one erosion, two polyps, one atrophy, and three submucosal tumors). Capsule retention or related adverse events were not reported. CONCLUSION: Standing-type magnetically controlled capsule endoscopy provides equivalent agreement with gastroscopy and may be useful for screening of gastric illnesses without any anesthesia.

RESUMEN

Concentrations and sources of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (dl-PCBs), and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in a rural atmosphere near industrial zones in Jiangsu, China were determined and the associated risks were assessed. The concentrations of ΣPCDD/Fs, ΣPCBs, and ΣPAHs ranged from 11.9-57.7 pg·m-3, 0.58-2.71 pg m-3, and 11-18 ng m-3, respectively. Principal component analysis suggested that the contamination of air with PCDD/Fs and PCBs mainly originated from industrial activities and combustion processes. In contrast, the major source of PAHs was the combustion of petroleum, coal, and biomass. These data were used to estimate the exposure of the population living nearby to these persistent organic pollutants and to evaluate the non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks associated with their inhalation. Our study are likely to be helpful for developing and implementing regulation strategies for PCDD/Fs, dl-PCBs, and PAHs in the atmosphere around industrial and surrounding residential areas.

RESUMEN

The aim of this paper was to study the effect of Lepidium meyenii(Maca) on cyclic nucleotides, neurotransmitter levels and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and immunization of deficiency-cold and deficiency-heat syndrome rats, in order to explore the cold and hot medicinal properties of Maca. SD rats were divided into blank group, deficiency-cold syndrome group, Cinnamomi Cortex of deficiency-cold syndrome(30 g·kg~(-1)) group, high and low-dose Maca groups(2.4, 1.2 g·kg~(-1)), deficiency-heat syndrome group, Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex(PCC) of deficiency-heat syndrome(5 g·kg~(-1)), and high and low-dose Maca groups(2.4, 1.2 g·kg~(-1)). The rats were treated with intramuscular injection of hydrocortisone(20 mg·kg~(-1)) or dexamethasone sodium phosphate(0.35 mg·kg~(-1)) for 21 days to set up the deficiency-cold and deficiency-heat model. The levels of cAMP, cGMP, NE, DA, 5-HT, CRH, ACTH, CORT and IgM, IgG, C3, C4 were detected by radio immunoassay. Both the high-dose Maca group and the low-dose Maca group can significantly improve the overall state and body weight of rats with deficiency-cold syndrome(P<0.01, P<0.05), significantly increasing cAMP, cAMP/cGMP, NE, DA, ACTH(P<0.01, P<0.001), and significantly decreasing 5-HT(P<0.01, P<0.001). However, high-dose and low-dose Maca groups could not improve the deficiency-heat syndrome, and the levels of cAMP, cGMP, cAMP/cGMP, NE, DA, 5-HT and ACTH were not statistically significant. Maca had a significant regulatory effect on CORT, IgM, IgG and C3 content of rats with deficiency-cold and deficiency-heat syndrome(P<0.01, P<0.05, P<0.001). Maca showed the same effect with Cinnamomi Cortex in adjusting the levels of deficiency-cold rats, but in opposition to Phellodendri Chinese Cortex. This paper confirmed that Maca was slightly warm based on its effect on cyclic nucleotide levels and neuro-endocrine-immune networks by the pharmacological experimental method.

RESUMEN

Start-up of membrane bioreactor under different NaCl stress was investigated in this study. Results showed that nearly 90% chemical oxygen demands and ammonia nitrogen ([Formula: see text]-N) was oxidized in none and 0.5% NaCl condition during the start-up stage. While 1% NaCl dramatically depressed the utilization of [Formula: see text]-N and about 4 weeks were required for adaption of sludge biomass to saline condition. In addition, the accumulation of nitrite high to 11.84 mg/L was observed in 1% NaCl stress, indicating the more inhibition on the activity of nitrite oxidizing bacteria. Microbial community responded to the different salinity levels. The phylum Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes occupied over 60% in all the three MBRs. Salinity enriched the relative abundance of Maribacter, Methyloversatilis, Aeromonas and Curvibacter, while reducing the proportion of Nitrospira and Haliscomenobacter. Nitrospirae decreased sharply at 1% NaCl accounting for the accumulation of nitrite. Higher content of soluble microbial products (SMP) under saliferous MBR were released, which deteriorated the permeability of membrane module. Protein-like substances and humic substances were the main ingredients of SMP, of which the former contributed more to membrane flux decline. This study provided better understanding on the impact of salinity on the start-up of MBR.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Capsule endoscopy (CE) can detect lesions outside the scope of ileocolonoscopy in postoperative patients with Crohn's disease (CD). However, the impact of such findings on patient outcomes remains unknown. This study is intended to evaluate the impact of CE findings on clinical management and outcomes in asymptomatic patients with CD without pharmacologic prophylaxis after ileocolonic resection. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, 37 patients (group 1) received ileocolonoscopy together with CE within 1 year after surgery, whereas 46 patients (group 2) only received ileocolonoscopy. Patients with endoscopic recurrence detected by either ileocolonoscopy or CE received pharmacologic therapy with azathioprine or infliximab. One year later, disease activity was re-evaluated. RESULTS: In group 1, all patients with ileocolonoscopy-identified recurrence also had CE-identified recurrence. In addition, CE detected endoscopic recurrence in 11 patients missed by ileocolonoscopy. Endoscopic remission identified by ileocolonoscopy was confirmed by CE in 13 patients. One year later, endoscopic remission identified by ileocolonoscopy was maintained in all 24 patients, and none had clinical recurrence. Conversely, in group 2, of those with ileocolonoscopy-identified remission, both ileocolonoscopy-identified recurrence and clinical recurrence occurred in 9 of 31 patients 1 year later. The total clinical recurrence rate was 2.7% (1/37) in group 1 versus 21.7% (10/46) in group 2 (P = .019). CONCLUSIONS: If endoscopic remission identified by ileocolonoscopy was confirmed by CE, patients could remain free of pharmacologic prophylaxis. If recurrence outside the scope of ileocolonoscopy was detected by CE, initiation of active pharmacologic therapy would be needed.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: Flat colorectal adenomas have a high risk of malignancy; however, their detection is often difficult due to their flat morphology. In this retrospective, large-scale study, we investigated the prevalence and characteristics of flat adenomas in a population in China. METHODS: We analyzed the data collected for 16951 consecutive patients who underwent colonoscopy at four participating hospitals between September 2013 and September 2015. All colonoscopies were performed without magnification. RESULTS: Among the 1,6951 patients, 2938 (17.3%) had adenoma and 796 (4.7%) had flat adenomas. The detection of flat adenoma showed a weak correlation with the detection of adenoma (r = 0.666). Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed the following independent factors influencing the detection of flat adenomas: patient-related factors of age, presence of warning symptoms, history of adenomas and bowel preparation as well as endoscopist-related factors of endoscopist's level of proficiency, number of colonoscopy operators and withdrawal time. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of flat adenomas in our study on Chinese patients was consistent with that reported from other countries. Factors conducive to the detection of flat adenomas were patient age of > 60 years, warning symptoms, history of adenoma, good bowel preparation, experienced endoscopist, single-operator colonoscopy and colonoscopy withdrawal time of >6 min.

RESUMEN

Cerebral palsy is a group of non-progressive motor impairment syndromes caused by brain lesions during development. Herein, we investigated the relationship between nucleotide variations in a miRNA coding region and the predisposition of Chinese children to cerebral palsy. A total of 233 CP patients and 256 healthy participants were enrolled, and 60 children were selected from each group for plasma miRNA detection. We screened the coding regions of pri-miR-124-1, -2, and -3 using PCR and sequencing. The expression of miR-124 was determined by qRT-PCR. Luciferase assays and Western blots were used to confirm the regulation of target genes by miR-124. The function of miR-124 was further identified in SH-SY5Y cells by detecting cell viability and apoptosis. We revealed that the rare alleles T of rs3802169 and G of rs191727850 were found to be associated with an increased risk of cerebral palsy (OR=3.71, 95% CI 1.74-7.92 and OR=2.18, 95% CI 1.36-3.49, respectively). We further showed that the levels of mature miR-124 were down-regulated by the C-to-T variation in vitro. More importantly, the reduction of miR-124 resulting from the C-to-T change led to the less-efficient inhibition of the target genes ITGB1, LAMC1 and BECN1, which may play important roles during the development of the nervous system. Meanwhile, the reduction in the expression of miR-124 was also related to the increased nuclear translocation of apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF) under oxidative stress, thereby inducing more cell apoptosis. Our results suggest that one functional polymorphism in pri-miR-124-1 might contribute to the genetic predisposition of Chinese children to cerebral palsy by disrupting the production of miR-124, which consequently interfered in the expression and function of the target genes of miR-124.

RESUMEN

Osteosarcoma is one of the most lethal malignancies, and the prognosis remains dismal due to the paucity of effective therapeutic targets. Bmi-1 and TRIM-14 are associated with the initiation and progression of osteosarcoma, which could promote angiogenesis, invasion, and apoptotic resistance in bone cancer tissue. In this study, we constructed a bispecific antibody of BsAbBmi/TRIM targeting Bmi-1 and TRIM-14 and investigated the therapeutic value in bone carcinoma cells and xenograft mice. Our results showed that Bmi-1 and TRIM-14 expression levels were markedly upregulated correlated with nuclear factor-κB nuclear translocation in bone cancer cells and clinical carcinoma tissues. Results have demonstrated that overexpression of Bmi-1 and TRIM-14 promoted growth, proliferation, aggressiveness, and apoptosis resistance of osteosarcoma cells. BsAbBmi/TRIM administration significantly inhibited nuclear factor-κB expression derived by matrix metalloproteinase-9 promoter. BsAbBmi/TRIM administration inhibited growth of osteosarcoma cells and downregulated Bmi-1 and TRIM-14 expression levels. Data also demonstrated that migration and invasion of osteosarcoma cells were also inhibited by BsAbBmi/TRIM. In addition, results illustrated that BsAbBmi/TRIM inhibited tumor growth and tumorigenicity by blockaded sensor expression in nuclear factor-κB signal pathway. Furthermore, in vivo study showed that BsAbBmi/TRIM treatment markedly inhibited the tumorigenicity and growth of osteosarcoma cells compared to either AbBmi-1 or AbTRIM-14 treatment. Notably, survival of xenograft mice was prolonged by BsAbBmi/TRIM treatment compared to either AbBmi-1 or AbTRIM-14 treatment. In conclusion, these results provided new evidence that BsAbBmi/TRIM inhibited the progression of osteosarcoma, which suggest that BsAbBmi/TRIM may be a novel anti-cancer agent for osteosarcoma therapy.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Endoscopic submucosal tunneling dissection (ESTD) has been proved to be safe and effective for removal of esophageal submucosal tumors (SMTs) and can maintain the mucosal integrity compared with other endoscopic methods. The aim of the study was to estimate the safety and efficacy of ESTD as well as compare its efficacy with thoracoscopic enucleation for esophageal SMTs, which is used increasingly as a minimally invasive approach. METHODS: We retrospectively collected the clinical data of patients with esophageal SMTs <40 mm who underwent ESTD or thoracoscopic enucleation at Nanfang Hospital between January 2008 and August 2016. Epidemiologic data (sex, age), tumor location, tumor size, en bloc resection rate, adverse events, pathologic results, length of postoperative hospital stay, and cost were compared between ESTD and thoracoscopic enucleation. RESULTS: A total of 126 patients were included. A total of 74 patients underwent ESTD, and the other 52 underwent thoracoscopic enucleation. There was no significant difference between the 2 groups in sex, age, tumor size, hospitalization expense, infection, adverse events, and en bloc resection rate (P < .05). However, patients in the ESTD group had a shorter operating time, less estimated blood loss, shorter length of postoperative hospital stay, and lower chest pain level (P < .05). Kaplan-Meier curves for disease-free survival also showed no statistically significant difference between ESTD and thoracoscopic enucleation groups during the median follow-up of 19.5 and 42 months, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The treatment efficacy was comparable between the ESTD and thoracoscopic enucleation for esophageal SMTs <40 mm. However, there was a significant advantage in the ESTD group for a shorter operating time, reduced postoperative chest pain, and shorter hospitalization.

RESUMEN

To discuss the impact of 0.1% vitamin K1 (VitK1) cream on cetuximab-induced skin toxicity for colorectal cancer patients. 60 colorectal cancer patients with cetuximab therapy after hospitalization, were divided into experimental group (Ward A) and control group (Ward B) according to personnel sequential number, with 30 cases in each group. Routine nursing was implemented on control group. For experimental group, on the routine nursing basis, 0.1% VitK1 cream was smeared on face, neck, chest, back and nail (toenail) edge with three times one day at the application of cetuximab day. After cetuximab applied in 8 weeks, both skin itch and dry skin for patients in experimental group were significantly improved compared those in control group, showing statistically significant difference (W=708.000, P=0.001: W=662. 500, P=0.000). 0.1% VitK1 cream was conducive to improve both skin itch and dry skin symptoms in the cetuximab-induced skin toxicity for colorectal cancer patients.

RESUMEN

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) in municipal wastewater was mainly characterized using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and size exclusion chromatography (HPSEC) with multi-excitation/emission fluorescence scan. Meanwhile, fluorescence excitation-emission-matrix combined with parallel factor analysis (EEM-PARAFAC) was also applied. Compared with chromatography fluorescence fingerprints, the EEM-PARAFAC model could not reflect the variety of DOM species with similar fluorescence but different physicochemical properties. The chromatography results showed that the protein-like species were variable among different municipal wastewater treatment plants, some of which are in combination with humic-like species; while there were two major humic-like species fractionated by hydrophilicity and molecular weight (MW), which are also the major contributors to UV absorbance at 254 nm. It was also identified that the relatively hydrophilic humic fractions were slightly larger than the relatively hydrophobic humic fractions. In all the investigated wastewater treatment plants, the relatively hydrophilic and larger MW humic fraction mainly contributed to the fluorescence intensity of humic-like EEM-PARAFAC components. As well as facilitating interpretations of EEM-PARAFAC components, the HPLC/HPSEC fluorescence fingerprints also contributed to a better understanding of fluorescent DOM species in municipal wastewater.

RESUMEN

At the time when water resources are in short supply, wastewater recycling is both an important environmental protection strategy and also a resource strategy. Disinfection is essential to ensure the biological safety of reclaimed wastewater by killing pathogens and preventing the spread of waterborne diseases. However, the disinfection process could inevitably produce toxic disinfection byproducts(DBPs)due to the reaction between the disinfectants and wastewater organic matters. Regarding wastewater DBPs,this study reviewed their identification methods, formation conditions(including precursors, the effect of water quality, disinfectants, and operational parameters on DBPs),and control methods(including source control, process control, and end control). In addition, future research trends of wastewater DBPs were discussed.
