RESUMEN

Iron-based materials with significant physicochemical properties, including high theoretical capacity, low cost and mechanical and thermal stability, have attracted research attention as electrode materials for alkali metal-ion batteries (AMIBs). However, practical implementation of some iron-based materials is impeded by their poor conductivity, large volume change, and irreversible phase transition during electrochemical reactions. In this review we critically assess advances in the chemical synthesis and structural design, together with modification strategies, of iron-based compounds for AMIBs, to obviate these issues. We assess and categorize structural and compositional regulation and its effects on the working mechanisms and electrochemical performances of AMIBs. We establish insight into their applications and determine practical challenges in their development. We provide perspectives on future directions and likely outcomes. We conclude that for boosted electrochemical performance there is a need for better design of structures and compositions to increase ionic/electronic conductivity and the contact area between active materials and electrolytes and to obviate the large volume change and low conductivity. Findings will be of interest and benefit to researchers and manufacturers for sustainable development of advanced rechargeable ion batteries using iron-based electrode materials.

BACKGROUND: The evidence of interactive effect of the toxic metal (TM) mixture and apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 gene on cognitive impairment in older adults is scarce. We aimed to explore whether the associations of single TMs and their mixture with cognitive impairment depend on APOE ε4 in Chinese community-dwelling older people. METHODS: A total of 1148 older adults from a subset of the baseline survey of a cohort study were included. Blood arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), strontium (Sr), and vanadium (V) were detected by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. APOE gene (rs429358, rs7412) polymorphisms were analyzed by the Polymerase Chain Reaction instrument. Mixed effects logistic regression was applied to estimate the relationships of single TMs and APOE genotype with cognitive impairment. Weighted quantile sum (WQS) and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) models were performed to examine joint impacts of the TM mixture, as well as the interaction of the TM mixture with APOE ε4 genotype on cognitive impairment. RESULTS: Pb displayed a significant linear association with an increased odds of cognitive impairment after adjustment for covariates (Ptrend = 0.045). While APOE genotype did not show a significant correlation with cognitive impairment. WQS showed that the TM mixture was associated with an increased risk of cognitive impairment by 31.0% (OR=1.31, 95% CI: 0.92, 1.87) while no significance was found. BKMR exhibited a significant linear association between the TM mixture and cognitive impairment. Moreover, both WQS and BKMR indicated that Pb contributed the most to cognitive impairment within the mixture. Significant interactions of Pb or the TM mixture and APOE genotype on cognitive impairment were observed, contributing to 38.1% and 38.2% of total effects, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: APOE ε4 allele amplifies the associations of single Pb or the TM mixture with cognitive impairment. These findings may help to develop precision prevention.

Previous studies have related single toxic metals (TMs) to hyperuricemia (HUA) among the general population, however, the association of the TM mixture with HUA, especially in older adults, remains poorly understood. We aimed to examine the relationships between individual TMs and their mixture and HUA in Chinese rural older adults. This study consisted of 2075 rural older adults aged 60 years or over. Blood concentrations of aluminum (Al), arsenic (As), barium (Ba), cadmium (Cd), cesium (Cs), gallium (Ga), mercury (Hg), lead (Pb), thallium (Tl), and uranium (U) were detected using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The associations of single TMs with HUA were assessed using logistic regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) models, and the association of TM mixture with HUA was explored using the elastic net with environmental risk score (ENET-ERS), quantile g-computation (QGC), and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) models, respectively. Adjusted logistic regression model showed that Cs (OR = 1.65, 95% CI 1.37-1.99) and Pb (OR = 1.46, 95% CI 1.28-1.67) were positively related to HUA, and RCS model exhibited a positive linear association of Cs and Pb with HUA. ENET-ERS and QGC models quantified a positive correlation between the TM mixture and the odds of HUA, with estimated ORs of 1.15 (95% CI 1.11-1.19) and 1.84 (95% CI 1.37-2.47), respectively, and Cs and Pb had the most weight. BKMR model demonstrated a significant linear association between the TM mixture and increased odds of HUA, with the posterior inclusion probabilities (PIPs) of both Cs and Pb being 1.00. Moreover, we observed a positive interaction between Cs and Pb on HUA. The TM mixture is associated with increased odds of HUA in rural older adults, which may mainly be driven by Cs and Pb. Subsequent studies are warranted to confirm these findings and clarify the mechanisms linking multiple TMs with HUA.

The Tiaopi Huxin recipe (TPHXR) is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine for the clinical treatment of coronary heart disease. However, the mechanism of TPHXR treatment of atherosclerosis (AS) has not been fully elucidated. In this study, we have aimed to explore the potential antiatherosclerotic effect of TPHXR and its underlying mechanisms. Male ApoE knockout (ApoE-/- ) mice were fed a high-fat diet for 12 weeks and were randomly divided into four groups: the control group, and the low-dose, medium-dose, and high-dose TPHXR groups. The nitric oxide (NO) levels in arterial tissue and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were measured by diaminofluorescein-2 diacetate staining. Vasorelaxation of mice aorta was performed by wire myograph. Inflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), hs-CRP, IL-6, and IL-1ß, in mice plasma were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Western blot analysis was applied to observe protein expression. Oil Red O staining was utilized for the quantification of atherosclerotic plaques. Results showed that 4 weeks of high- and medium-dose TPHXR treatment by oral gavage reduced atheromatous lesions in ApoE -/- mice. The high- and medium-dose TPHXR treatment, but not the low-dose treatment, promoted eNOS phosphorylation, increased NO levels and improved endothelium-dependent vasorelaxation in ApoE -/- mice. High- and medium-dose TPHXR, but not low-dose TPHXR, decreased the expression of cav-1, NF-κB p50, NF-κB p65, ICAM1, VCAM-1, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1ß in the vasculature of ApoE -/- mice. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay analysis indicated that high- and medium-dose TPHXR decreased the levels of TNF-α, IL-6, hs-CRP, and IL-1ß. In conclusion, our findings show that TPHXR improved the endothelial function and reduced atheromatous lesions in ApoE -/- mice. This result may be due to the decreased expression of caveolin-1 and NF-κB and, hence, the attenuated inflammatory response in AS mice vasculature. TPHXR may represent a promising intervention in patients with AS.

This study investigated the effects of Tai Chi compared with no exercise control on the cerebral hemodynamic parameters and other health-related factors in community older adults at risk of ischemic stroke. A total of 170 eligible participants were randomly allocated to Tai Chi or control group. The cerebral hemodynamic parameters and physical fitness risk factors of cardiovascular disease were measured at baseline, 12 weeks, and 24 weeks. After the 12-week intervention, Tai Chi significantly improved the minimum of blood flow velocity (BFVmin); BFVmean; pulsatility index and resistance index of the right anterior cerebral artery; and BFVmax, BFVmin, and BFVmean parameters of the right middle cerebral artery. Tai Chi training also decreased triglyceride, fasting blood glucose, and homocysteine levels, and improved balance ability. Therefore, the supervised 12-week Tai Chi exercise had potential beneficial effects on cerebral hemodynamics, plasma risk factors, and balance ability in older community adults at risk of ischemic stroke.

BACKGROUND: Evidence from quantitative studies suggest that Tai Chi produces a variety of health-related benefits, but few qualitative studies have investigated how older adults perceive the benefit of Tai Chi. The objective of the current study was to qualitatively evaluate the perceived benefits of Tai Chi practice among community older population. METHODS: This study was conducted with participants from a trial examining the effects of a 12-week Tai Chi training on ischemic stroke risk in community older adults (n = 170). A total of 20 participants were randomly selected from a convenience sample of participants who had completed 12-week Tai Chi training (n = 68) were interviewed regarding their perceived benefit on physical and mental health and whether Tai Chi exercise was suitable for the elderly. RESULTS: All participants agreed that Tai Chi training could relax their body and make them comfortable. Most of them thought Tai Chi training could promote physical health, including relieving pain, enhancing digestion, strengthening immunity, enhancing energy and improving sleep quality, enhancing their mental and emotional state (e.g. improving mood and reducing anxiety, improving concentration and promoting interpersonal relationship). Most of participants also agreed that Tai Chi exercise was appropriate for community older people. Three primary themes emerged from content analysis: Improving physical health; Enhancing mental and emotional state; Conforming with the request of the elderly. CONCLUSION: The findings indicate that regular Tai Chi exercise may have positive benefits in terms of improved physical health and mental state among community elderly population, and may be useful and feasible body-mind exercise to community elderly population for its positive effects and advantages. We report a case of a 58-year-old woman showed a homogeneous well-defined perihilar mass in the right upper lobe and fully surrounded by aerated parenchyma at computed tomography (CT). A right upper lobectomy with mediastinal lymph node sampling was performed. A pathologic diagnosis of well-differentiated fetal adenocarcinoma of the lung was made and staged as T2bN0M0. For the expression of Wnt signaling pathway molecules, positive expressions of Wnt1, ß-catenin, c-Myc, Cyclin D1and MMP7 were especially prominent in budding solid nests, but not in glandular structures. The nuclear/cytoplasmic localization of ß-catenin accompanied upregulation of Wnt signaling pathway molecules in budding solid nests. These results demonstrated that elevated nuclear/cytoplasmic expression of ß-catenin in fatal adenocarcinoma might be regulated by the Wnt signaling pathway.

Promoting better thermodynamics and kinetics of electrocatalysts is key to achieving an efficient electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Utilizing the photothermal effect and micro-electric field of electrocatalysts is a promising approach to promote the sluggish OER. Herein, to reveal the relationship of the photothermal effect and its induced micro-electric field with OER performance, NiSx coupled NiFe(OH)y on nickel foam (NiSx@NiFe(OH)y/NF) is synthesized and subjected to the OER under near-infrared (NIR) light. Owing to the photothermal effect and its induced micro-electric field, the OER performance of NiSx@NiFe(OH)y/NF is significantly enhanced. Compared with no NIR light irradiation, the overpotential at 50 mA cm-2 and the Tafel slope of NiSx@NiFe(OH)y/NF under NIR light irradiation were 234.1 mV and 38.0 mV dec-1, which were lower by 12.4 mV and 7.1 mV dec-1, and it exhibited stable operation at 1.6 V vs. RHE for 8 h with 99% activity maintained. This work presents a novel inspiration to understand the photothermal effect-enhanced electrocatalytic OER.

Previous studies have related single essential metal elements (EMEs) to sleep quality among older adults, however, the association of the EME mixture with sleep quality remained poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between single EMEs and the EME mixture and sleep quality in older adults living in Chinese communities. This study consisted of 3957 older adults aged 60 years or over. Urinary concentrations of cobalt (Co), vanadium (V), selenium (Se), molybdenum (Mo), strontium (Sr), calcium (Ca), and magnesium (Mg) were detected using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Sleep quality was evaluated using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The associations of single EMEs and EME mixture with sleep quality were assessed using logistic regression and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) models, respectively. Adjusted single-element logistic regression models showed that Mo (OR = 0.927, 95%CI:0.867-0.990), Sr (OR = 0.927, 95%CI:0.864-0.994), and Mg (OR = 0.934, 95%CI:0.873-0.997) were negatively related to poor sleep quality. BKMR models exhibited similar results. Also, higher levels of the EME mixture in urine were inversely related to the odds of poor sleep quality after adjustment for covariates, and Mo had the largest conditional posterior inclusion probability (condPIP) value in the mixture. Mo, Sr, and Mg were negatively related to poor sleep quality, separately and as the mixture. The EME mixture in urine was associated with decreased odds of poor sleep quality in older adults, and Mo was the greatest contributor within the mixture. Additional cohort research is warranted to clarify the relationship of multiple EMEs with sleep quality.

BACKGROUND: Joint impacts of air pollution and physical activity (PA) on sleep quality remain unaddressed. We aimed to investigate whether PA attenuates the association of long-term exposure to nitrogen dioxide (NO2) with sleep quality and its dimensions in older adults. METHODS: This study included 3408 Chinese rural older adults. Annual NO2 was estimated using the Space-Time Extra-Trees model. PA was assessed by International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Sleep quality was evaluated using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scale. Linear regression models were used to assess the associations of long-term NO2 exposure and PA with sleep quality and its dimensions, and interaction plots were used to depict the attenuating effect of PA on associations of NO2 with sleep quality and its dimensions. RESULTS: Three-year (3-y) average NO2 (per 0.64-µg/m3 increment) was positively associated with global PSQI (ß = 0.41, 95 % CI: 0.23, 0.59), sleep duration (ß = 0.16, 95 % CI: 0.11, 0.21), and habitual sleep efficiency (ß = 0.22, 95 % CI: 0.17, 0.27), while PA was negatively associated with global PSQI (ß = -0.33, 95 % CI: -0.46, -0.20) and five domains of PSQI other than sleep duration and sleep disturbances. The associations of NO2 with global PSQI, sleep duration, and habitual sleep efficiency were attenuated with increased PA (Pinteraction were 0.037, 0.020, and 0.079, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: PA attenuates the adverse impacts of long-term NO2 exposure on sleep quality, especially on sleep duration, and habitual sleep efficiency, in Chinese rural elderly people. Participating in PA should be encouraged in this population, and continued efforts are still needed to reduce air pollution.

RESUMEN

The success of blockchain technology in cryptocurrencies reveals its potential in the data management field. Recently, there is a trend in the database community to integrate blockchains and traditional databases to obtain security, efficiency, and privacy from the two distinctive but related systems. In this survey, we discuss the use of blockchain technology in the data management field and focus on the fusion system of blockchains and databases. We first classify existing blockchain-related data management technologies by their locations on the blockchain-database spectrum. Based on the taxonomy, we discuss three types of fusion systems and analyze their design spaces and trade-offs. Then, by further investigating the typical systems and techniques of each type of fusion system and comparing the solutions, we provide insights of each fusion model. Finally, we outline the unsolved challenges and promising directions in this field and believe that fusion systems will take a more important role in data management tasks. We hope this survey can help both academia and industry to better understand the advantages and limitations of blockchain-related data management systems and develop fusion systems that meet various requirements in practice.

Epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs), such as gefitinib, are effective in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) harboring EGFR mutations. However, the mechanism underlying acquired resistance to EGFR-TKIs remains largely unknown. Therefore, the present study generated gefitinib-resistant PC-9 (PC-9G) cells, which were revealed to be more resistant to gefitinib-induced reductions in proliferation, migration and invasion, and increases in apoptosis, and had no detectable EGFR mutations compared with the control PC-9 cell line. In addition, the present study performed genome-wide transcriptomic analysis of differentially expressed genes between PC-9 and PC-9G cell lines. Cell proliferation, colony formation, invasion, migration and flow cytometry analyses were also performed. The genome-wide transcriptomic analysis revealed that glycogen synthase kinase 3ß (GSK3ß) was downregulated in PC-9G cells compared with that in PC-9 cells. Furthermore, GSK3ß overexpression increased the proliferation, migration and invasion of PC-9 and H1975 gefitinib-resistant cells. Conversely, overexpression of GSK3ß suppressed the proliferation, migration and invasion of PC-9G cells. Furthermore, AKT inhibition reduced the proliferation, migration and invasion, and induced the apoptosis of PC-9, PC-9G and H1975 cells, the effects of which were reversed following AKT activation; notably, the tumor suppressor function of GSK3ß was inconsistent with the tumor promotor role of the AKT pathway in PC-9G cells without EGFR mutation. The present study may provide novel insights into the distinctive role of GSK3ß in gefitinib-resistant NSCLC with or without EGFR mutations, suggesting that a more detailed investigation on GSK3ß as a therapeutic target for gefitinib-resistant NSCLC may be warranted.

An infrared photodetector is a critical component that detects, identifies, and tracks complex targets in a detection system. Infrared photodetectors based on 3D bulk materials are widely applied in national defense, military, communications, and astronomy fields. The complex application environment requires higher performance and multi-dimensional capability. The emergence of 2D materials has brought new possibilities to develop next-generation infrared detectors. However, the inherent thickness limitations and the immature preparation of 2D materials still lead to low quantum efficiency and slow response speeds. This review summarizes 2D/3D hybrid van der Waals heterojunctions for infrared photodetection. First, the physical properties of 2D and 3D materials related to detection capability, including thickness, band gap, absorption band, quantum efficiency, and carrier mobility, are summarized. Then, the primary research progress of 2D/3D infrared detectors is reviewed from performance improvement (broadband, high-responsivity, fast response) and new functional devices (two-color detectors, polarization detectors). Importantly, combining low-doped 3D and flexible 2D materials can effectively improve the responsivity and detection speed due to a significant depletion region width. Furthermore, combining the anisotropic 2D lattice structure and high absorbance of 3D materials provides a new strategy in high-performance polarization detectors. This paper offers prospects for developing 2D/3D high-performance infrared detection technology.

It has been reported that upregulation of wingless-type protein 5a (Wnt5a) is associated with poor prognosis in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Wnt5a expression is often upregulated in radiation-resistant NSCLC cells. However, the biological functions or molecular mechanisms of radiosensitivity in NSCLC remain unknown. In the present study, MTT assay and flow cytometric analysis were performed to assess the effect of overexpression or knockdown of Wnt5a and/or radiation on the proliferation and apoptosis of NSCLC cells. Furthermore, western blot analysis was performed to detect canonical Wnt signaling (ß-catenin) in H1650 and A549 cells. The results demonstrated that Wnt5a knockdown combined with irradiation inhibited proliferation and induced apoptosis in NSCLC cells compared with Wnt5a knockdown or radiotherapy alone. In addition, the combination of Wnt5a knockdown and irradiation decreased nuclear and increased cytoplasmic ß-catenin expression in H1650 and A549 cells, the effects of which were reversed following overexpression of Wnt5a. The combination of overexpressing Wnt5a and irradiation resulted in significant tumor regression, while ß-catenin knockdown reversed Wnt5a overexpression-induced NSCLC cell proliferation. Taken together, these results suggest that Wnt5a may be involved in the activation of ß-catenin-dependent canonical Wnt signaling, and thus may influence the effectiveness of radiation therapy in NSCLC.

Objective: Systematic evaluation of the efficacy of acupuncture combined with cognitive rehabilitation training in the treatment of upper limb spasm after cerebral apoplexy. Methods: The data of CNKI, CBM, CQVIP, Wanfang, and the libraries of Pubmed and Cochrane were searched by computer, and the related literatures about acupuncture combined with cognitive rehabilitation training in the treatment of cognitive dysfunction after stroke were searched. The search time is from January 1, 1995 to January 1, 2022. All data segments were independently analyzed and extracted by two evaluators. After evaluating the quality of the methodology, meta-analysis was carried out by using the RevMan5.4 software. Results: Finally, 11 studies were included, with a total of 789 subjects. The results of meta-analysis indicated that acupuncture combined with cognitive rehabilitation training was superior to simple cognitive rehabilitation training or drugs in the following aspects, the difference exhibited statistically significant, the total effective rate (RR = 1.58, 95% CI), latency of P300 (MD = -18.46, 95% CI), amplitude of P300 (MD = 1.23, 95% CI (0.82), P < 0.00001, 95% CI (0.31)), and activity of daily living (ADL), respectively, were significantly higher compared to the control group (P < 0.00001), and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Based on the results of systematic evaluation, the GRADE system recommendation classification method is used to evaluate the quality of evidence. The results show that the level of evidence is low and the intensity of recommendation is weak. Conclusion: The results of this meta-analysis suggest that the curative effect of acupuncture combined with cognitive rehabilitation training is better compared to simple cognitive rehabilitation training or drugs. However, due to the low quality of the original literature, it needs to be confirmed by multicenter, high-quality, large-sample randomized blind controlled trials in the future.

BACKGROUND: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most important cause of lung cancer death. Wnt7a is a known tumor suppressor gene which is often downregulated in NSCLC, and restoration of Wnt7a leads to decreased NSCLC cell proliferation. However, the biological role of Wnt7a in the migration and invasion in NSCLC remains unclear. METHODS: We examined whether overexpression of Wnt7a transfected by pcDNA6-Wnt7a could induce the proliferation, migration and invasion of NSCLC H1650 and A549 cell lines. Wnt7a signaling pathway, such as canonical (ß-catenin) or non-canonical (c-Jun N-terminal kinase, JNK) pathways, were also assessed. RESULTS: We found that re-expression of Wnt7a led to reduced cell growth in NSCLC cell lines. In spite of the antiproliferative effect, Wnt7a overexpression could affect the migration and invasion of NSCLC cells. In the Wnt7a signaling pathway, the phosphorylation of JNK (Thr-183/Tyr-185) and c-Jun (Ser-63) were increased by re-expression of Wnt7a in both H1650 and A549 cell lines. The phosphorylation of ß-catenin (Thr-41/Ser-45, Ser-552, Ser-675, and Ser-45) were not altered by restoration of Wnt7a. In NSCLC cells, Wnt7a overexpression was accompanied by parallel changes in the JNK pathway but not in the ß-catenin pathway. CONCLUSIONS: These results help to understand that Wnt7a may play a two-sided role in NSCLC, suggesting that restoration of Wnt7a expression is not always suitable as therapeutic strategy for NSCLC.

The Wingless-type protein 7a (Wnt7a) plays an antiproliferative role in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Previous studies have indicated that Wnt7a expression was downregulated in radiation-resistant NSCLC cells. However, little is known about its biological functions and molecular mechanisms in radiosensitivity of NSCLC. Thus, NSCLC cell proliferation and apoptosis in response to Wnt7a overexpression and/or radiation were determined by 3-(4, 5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyl-tertazolium bromide (MTT) assay and flow cytometry, respectively. The activation of the Wnt/cJun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathways were further examined by western blot in NSCLC cell lines H1650 and A549. Wnt7a overexpression combined with radiation-inhibited cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in NSCLC cell lines compared to Wnt7a overexpression or radiotherapy alone. In addition, the phosphorylation of JNK, but not ß-catenin, was congruent with the changes in Wnt7a overexpression and/or radiation. Moreover, the Wnt/JNK pathway could induce the apoptosis of NSCLC cells through the mitochondrial pathway. Inhibition of the Wnt/JNK signaling pathway by SP600125, a JNK inhibitor, contributed to proliferation induction in NSCLC cells. Taken together, these results showed that Wnt7a overexpression sensitized NSCLC cell lines to radiotherapy through the Wnt/JNK signaling pathway.

To recycle the waste and meet the demand for anode materials for Li-ion battery, α-Fe2O3/C for use as anode material is successfully prepared via a simple hydrothermal process using acid-pickled iron oxide red as raw material. The techniques of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy are used to characterize the product. The synthesis conditions, including temperature and time, are optimized by orthogonal experimental design. The optimal reaction temperature, reaction time, Fe2O3/SO42- ratio, Fe2O3/glucose ratio are 120 °C, 30 h, 20:2 and 1:1, respectively. The sample prepared at optimal conditions exhibits a high initial specific capacity of 1144/1535 mA h g-1 at 100 mA g-1 and a superior cycling performance of ˜800 mA h g-1 after 200 cycles. Accordingly, this method provides information for the synthesis of α-Fe2O3/C with acid-pickled iron oxide red for the first time, which may help alleviate the problem of energy shortage and environmental pollution through the rational use of resources.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of tai chi exercise on cardiac and static lung function for older community-dwelling adults at risk of ischemic stroke. METHODS: A total of 170 older community-dwelling adults (aged 55-75 years old) at risk of ischemic stroke were allocated to either tai chi training group (85 cases, five 60-min sessions of tai chi training per week for 12 weeks) or control group (85 cases, usual pbysical activity for 12 weeks) using a computer-generated randomization. The echocardiographic parameters of cardiac structure, cardiac function and static lung function were measured at baseline, after 12 weeks of intervention and additional 12-week follow-up period by a blinded professional staffmember using a color Doppler ultrasound imaging device or a cardiopulmonary function instrument. The t test and linear mixed model based on the intentionto-treat analysis principle was used to calculate the effect. The adverse effect was observed. RESULTS: Most of echocardiographic parameters on the cardiac structure, cardiac function and static lung function between the tai chi group and control group did not have a significant difference either post 12-week intervention or additional 12-week follow-up period. Only three parameters involving in right ventricular diameter (P=0.024), main pulmonary artery diameter (P=0.002) and vital capacity maximum (P=0.036) were beneficial to be improved in the tai chi group compared to the control group by the analysis of mixed linear model. No adverse effects were found during the intervention period. CONCLUSION: The 12-week tai chi exercise did not have an obvious beneficial effect on cardiac structure, cardiac function and static lung function in older community-dwelling adults at risk of ischemic stroke. The study with a longer duration of intervention should be necessary. (Trial registration No. ChiCTR-TRC-13003601).

In the efforts toward the rapidly increasing demands for high-power application, cathode materials with three-dimensional (3D) architectures have been proposed. Here, we report the construction of the 3D LiAlO2-LiMnPO4/C cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries in an innovation way. The as-prepared 3D active materials LiMnPO4/C and the honeycomb-like Li-ion conductor LiAlO2 framework are used as working electrode directly without additional usage of polymeric binder. The electrochemical performance has been improved significantly due to the special designed core-shell architectures of LiMnPO4/C@LiAlO2. The 3D binder-free electrode exhibits high rate capability as well as superior cycling stability with a capability of ∼105 mAh g-1 and 98.4% capacity retention after 100 cycles at a high discharge rate of 10 C. Such synthesis method adopted in our work can be further extended to other promising candidates and would also inspire new avenues of development of 3D materials for lithium-ion batteries.
