RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: China has the largest number of the elderly in the world. As the proportion of elderly is rapidly increasing among national reported HIV/AIDS cases, it is a concern about HIV epidemic among older MSM in China. However, studies on HIV prevalence and unprotected anal intercourse (UAI) among Chinese older MSM were relatively few or generally had small sample sizes. METHODS: English and Chinese articles published in peer-reviewed journals were identified by systematically searching 5 electronic databases including PubMed and through cross-referencing. Summary prevalence rates of HIV infection and UAI with male sexual partners were calculated, and analyses were performed using the software Comprehensive Meta-Analysis V2.0 and SPSS V17.0. Subgroup analyses were performed separately by sample size, study year, study location, recruitment settings and sampling method. RESULTS: Twenty eligible cross-sectional studies (3 in English and 17 in Chinese), published between 2005 and 2013, with a total of 2812 older MSM participants, were identified. Our meta-analyses showed that the prevalence of HIV, syphilis and UAI in the last 6 months were 11.6% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 8.0%-16.6%), 23.0% (95% CI: 15.8%-32.3%) and 79.5% (95% CI: 72.7%-84.9%), respectively. HIV prevalence increased over the study period (6.3% in 2003-2007; 8.6% in 2008-2009, and 11.5% in 2010-2011, trend test Chi-square = 7.02, p = 0.008). The pooled prevalence of HIV (11.6% vs. 5.2%, Chi-square value = 36.2, p < 0.001) and UAI (79.5% vs. 52.6%, Chi-square value = 440.04, p < 0.001) among older MSM were both significantly higher than among younger age group (age < 50 years). CONCLUSIONS: Older Chinese MSM have high prevalence of HIV and syphilis. Unprotected anal sex is common and further puts them at high risks of acquiring and transmitting HIV, which was one of reasons for the rapid increasing of national reported older male HIV/AIDS cases. Prevention intervention programs should be specially tailored for this high risk MSM subgroup.

RESUMEN

Peroxynitrite is widely present in organisms and closely related to many pathophysiological functions. Therefore, it is of great physiological significance to develop capable probes for detecting ONOO-. In this work, a novel fluorescent probe B-Ch was designed based on the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) effect. By means of molecular engineering, the replacement from diethylamine group to hydroxyl group has improved the detection sensitivity of the probe. After the addition of ONOO-, the solution color and fluorescence showed noticeable changes, which were visible to the naked eye. The probe showed excellent advantages: visualization, good selectivity, low sensitivity (22.4 nM), good stability and biocompatibility, exogenous and endogenous imaging of ONOO- in HeLa cells.

RESUMEN

Indole is an inter-species and inter-kingdom signaling molecule widespread in the natural world. A large amount of indole in livestock wastes makes it difficult to be degraded, which causes serious malodor. Identifying efficient and eco-friendly ways to eliminate it is an urgent task for the sustainable development of husbandry. While bioconversion is a widely accepted means, the mechanism of indole microbial degradation is little understood, especially under anaerobic conditions. Herein, a new Enterococcus hirae isolate GDIAS-5, effectively degraded 100 mg/L indole within 28 h aerobically or 5 days anaerobically. Three intermediates (oxindole, isatin, and catechol) were identified in indole degradation, and catechol was further degraded by a meta-cleavage catabolic pathway. Two important processes for GDIAS-5 indole utilization were discovered. One is Fe(III) uptake and reduction, which may be a critical process that is coupled with indole oxidation, and the other is the entire pathway directly involved in indole oxidation and metabolism. Furthermore, monooxygenase ycnE responsible for indole oxidation via the indole-oxindole-isatin pathway was identified for the first time. Bioinformatic analyses showed that ycnE from E. hirae formed a phylogenetically separate branch from monooxygenases of other species. These findings provide new targets and strategies for synthetic biological reconstruction of indole-degrading bacteria.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy of domestic decitabine (D) combined with pre-excitation chemotherapy consisted of Ara-c, THP and G-CSF(CTG) in treatment of middle-aged and elderly patients with MDS-transformed AML and prognosis-related factors. METHODS: Seventy-six patients with MDS-transformed AML treated in our hospital from June 2013 to June 2015 were selected according to treatment regimens, 76 patients were divided into 2 groups: CTG group(36 cases) and D+CTG group(40 cases). The patients in CTG group received treatment with Ara-C, THP and G-CSF; the patients received the treatment with decitabine plus CTG. The patients in 2 groups all received 4 course treatment, then received maintaining treatment. The therapeutic efficacy and incidence of adverse reactions in 2 group were compared, at the same time, the risk factors affecting the prognos of patients treated with D+CTG were analyzed. RESULTS: There were no siginificant differences in age, sex, initial blood cell count, bone marrow blast ratio, disease types, chromosome karyotypes and FLT3-ITD gene mutation between 2 groups. The efficacy analysis showed that the efficacy of D+CTG was superior to CTG, ORR in D+CTG group was significantly higher than that in CTG group (72、52 vs 50%) (P<0.05), moreover, no significant differences in bone marrow inhibition digree infeetion, gastroinfestinal response and liver damage were found between 2 groups (P>0.05). The follow-np for 2 years showed that the median survival time in D+CTG group was significantly longer than that in CTG group (19.9 vs 11.0 months) (P<0.05). The multivariate analysis showed that the 1 course efficacy (RR=3.926, P=0.015) and FLT3-ITD gene mutation (RR=4.347, P=0.004) were independent risk factors affecting the efficacy of D+CTG treatment. CONCLUSION: The short-and long-term efficacy of domestic decitasine combined with preexcitation chenotherapy in treatment of middec-aged and eldery patients with MDS transformed AML is superior to single pre-excitation chenothrapy, moreover the incidence of adverse reactions did not increase. The 1 course efficacy and FLT-3 ITD gene mutation are the independent risk factors affecting the prognosis of patients. .

RESUMEN

This study investigated for the first time the feasibility of using a magnetic field for sludge disintegration. Approximately 41.01% disintegration degree (DD) was reached after 30min at 180mT magnetic field intensity upon separate magnetic field treatment. Protein and polysaccharide contents significantly increased. This test was optimized using a Box-Behnken design (BBD) with response surface methodology (RSM) to fit the multiple equation of the DD. The maximum DD was 43.75% and the protein and polysaccharide contents increased to 56.71 and 119.44mg/L, respectively, when the magnetic field strength was 119.69mT, reaction time was 30.49min, and pH was 9.82 in the optimization experiment. We then analyzed the effects of ultrasound alone. We are the first to combine magnetic field with ultrasound to disintegrate waste-activated sludge (WAS). The optimum effect was obtained with the application of ultrasound alone at 45kHz frequency, with a DD of about 58.09%. By contrast, 62.62% DD was reached in combined magnetic field and ultrasound treatment. This combined test was also optimized using BBD with RSM to fit the multiple equation of DD. The maximum DD of 64.59% was achieved when the magnetic field intensity was 197.87mT, ultrasonic frequency was 42.28kHz, reaction time was 33.96min, and pH was 8.90. These results were consistent with those of particle size and electron microscopy analyses. This research proved that a magnetic field can effectively disintegrate WAS and can be combined with other physical techniques such as ultrasound for optimal results.
