RESUMEN

With live measles freeze-dried vaccine, accelerated storage test provides more information than does a titration of residual moisture. From our results, it appears that there is a good correlation between storage at 37 degrees and the tests usually required by the manufacturer, i. e. storage for 1 year at refrigerator temperature. The accelerated test in neither tedious nor expensive and is recommended for routine use.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study is to know if it is possible to prepare inactivated poliomyelitis vaccines on Vero cell culture. In the cloned cell line used to prepare the vaccines, we have looked for an eventual toxic effect by different system tests. The cells between the 148e and 151e passage used to prepare the vaccines were inoculated into: - suckling mice, rabbits and guinea pigs - embryonated eggs. The supernatant fluid of the cells was inoculated into: - Vero cells - Primary rabbit kidney cells - Primary monkey kidney cells. We have also looked for an eventual tumorigenic effect on immunodepressed mice with an antithymocytic serum. The results of the assays are presented and discussed.

RESUMEN

Paralytic poliomyelitis were observed in two healthy children who both had previously received four doses of standard inactivated poliovaccine (IPV). These children, whose immune defenses were normal, failed to respond to IPV. This absence of antibody response might be related to an insufficient antigenicity of inactivated vaccines, justifying the extensive use of the more potent IPV, now produced on continuous cell lines.
