RESUMEN

Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the anticandidal efficacy of Triphala, aloe vera, Neem, and denture cleanser on heat polymerized acrylic resin. Settings and Designs: In vitro - experimental study. Materials and Methods: In this study, forty denture wearer patients were selected and were divided into four groups consisting of ten patients, namely, Group I, Group II, Group III, and Group IV, in which dentures were cleansed with denture cleanser (tablets), Triphala (churna), aloe vera (leaf), and Neem (tablets), respectively, and stored in copper containers. Swabs were collected from the dentures before and after the use of Denture cleanser, Triphala, aloe vera, and Neem. Thereafter, the swabs were cultured on Sabouraud dextrose agar and the total Candida counts (CFU/4 cm2) were determined. Statistical Analysis Used: One way ANOVA and Tukeys HSD post hoc test were used. Results: The pre- to post-reduction in mean Candida count was found highest in Denture cleanser followed by Neem, Triphala, and aloe vera. Further, both Denture cleaner and Neem showed statistically significant reduction (P < 0.001) in the mean Candida count when compared to Triphala and aloe vera. However, reduction in the mean Candida count of both Denture cleanser and Neem was found statistically similar (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The anticandidal efficacy of denture cleanser was found to be the highest. The cost-effective Neem can be used as anticandidal modality in place of denture cleanser.

RESUMEN

Single maxillary denture often represents vigorous challenge to the practicing dentists. The difficulty arises when the maxillary dentures are set to fit the occlusion of natural mandibular teeth. The functionally generated pathway technique registers occlusal pathways of the posterior teeth in functional wax and is described as the "three-dimensional static expression consists of dynamic tooth movement." The current article represents a technique for a patient who was rehabilitated with a maxillary complete denture, and a harmonious occlusion was achieved between the complete denture and the mandibular natural dentition. Functional maxillary denture is therefore in medical dentistry the successful culmination of human's high practice and represents the golden goal sought by every dental practitioner and expected by every denture patient.

RESUMEN

A maxillofacial patient's quality of life is distorted and social integration becomes difficult. An obturator is a maxillofacial prosthesis used to close a congenital or acquired tissue defect, primarily of the hard palate and/or contiguous alveolar/soft-tissue structures. Subsequently, it restores the esthetics, speech, and function. The present clinical report aimed for the prosthetic rehabilitation of a maxillectomy defect by the incorporation of a semi-precision attachment as PRECI-SAGIX - male part of 2.2 mm on fixed partial denture (#22 and #23 teeth) and matrix - plastic female part of size 2.2 mm and height 4.2 mm of yellow on cast partial in polymer base. It aids in the retention of a hollow lightweight obturator. The technique also described the method to make a bulbless obturator with a hollow self-cured acrylic resin occlusal shim. A patient is quite satisfied with bulb less, lightweight cast partial and hollow shim palatal obturator.

RESUMEN

The eye is a vital organ and an important component of facial expression. Loss of an eye has a crippling effect on the psychology of the patient. Maxillofacial prostheses restore and replace stomatognathic and associated facial structures with artificial substitutes. The objectives of eye prosthesis is to improve the patient esthetics, restore and maintain the health of the remaining associated structures, consequently provide physical and mental well-being. The primary purpose of an ocular prosthesis is to maintain the volume of eye socket and create the illusion of a healthy eye and surrounding tissue. A custom ocular prosthesis is a good option when reconstruction is done by plastic surgery, and osseointegrated implants are either not possible or not desired. A case of a custom-made ocular acrylic prosthesis is presented with acceptable fit, good retention, and esthetics.
