RESUMEN

Nuclear receptor coactivator 6 (NCOA6), a coactivator of numerous nuclear receptors and transcription factors, regulates multiple critical cellular functions. Nuclear receptor coactivator 6 is dysregulated in various cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); however, its role remains largely unknown. Here we reported that NCOA6 was highly expressed in HCC compared to the adjacent liver tissue, and NCOA6 overexpression was significantly correlated with poor HCC prognosis. Experiments revealed that the knockdown of NCOA6 damaged the proliferation, migration, and invasion of HCC cells. Multiomics and immune infiltration analyses showed a close relationship between NCOA6 expression, multiple cancer-related malignant pathways, and the immunosuppressive microenvironment. Finally, we established an effective NCOA6-related microRNA (miRNA) signature to distinguish HCC from hepatitis\liver cirrhosis patients. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to provide a comprehensive analysis of NCOA6 expression in HCC. We found that NCOA6 plays an important role in HCC development and has a potential mechanism of action. Establishing an NCOA6-related miRNA signature will help develop novel diagnostic strategies for HCC patients.

PREMISE: Many studies have assessed the various responses of alien plants to changes in overall nutrient or different nitrogen (N) availabilities. However, in natural soils, nutrients are present as different elements (e.g., N and phosphorus [P]) and forms (e.g., inorganic and organic). Few studies have explored whether invasive and native species differ in their responses to varying P availability and forms. METHODS: We grew five taxonomically related pairs of common herbaceous, invasive and native species alone or in competition under six different conditions of P availability or forms and assessed their growth performance. RESULTS: Invasive species overall did not produce more biomass than native species did in the various P conditions. However, the biomass response to organic forms of P was, relative to the response to inorganic forms of P, stronger for the invasive species than that for the native species and agreed with invasive species mainly allocating biomass to the root system under organic P conditions. CONCLUSIONS: While invasive species were not more promiscuous than the native species, they took great advantage of the organic P forms. Therefore, the invasion risk of alien species may increase in habitats with more organic P sources.

Frizzled-2 plays an important role in maintaining normal hepatic cell functionality. This study aimed to investigate the role of inhibition of Frizzled-2 in protecting rat liver BRL-3A cells from Hypoxia/Reoxygenation (H/R). In vitro H/R hepatic cell model was established by culturing BRL-3A cells under H/R condition. Frizzled-2 siRNA was transfected into BRL-3A cells to inhibit Frizzled-2 signaling. Wnt5a and Frizzled-2 were significantly increased in BRL-3A cells upon H/R treatment. H/R treatment induced cell cytotoxicity, the early apoptosis rate and the intracellular Ca2+ level in BRL-3A cells while silencing frizzled-2 gene decreased the H/R induced cell cytotoxicity, apoptosis and intracellular Ca2+ level. In vivo mice study further showed the up-regulation of Frizzled-2/Wnt 5 pathway and cleaved Caspase-3 expression in liver tissues under ischemia and reperfusion injury (IRI). In summary, inhibition of Frizzled-2 by its siRNA may protects BRL-3A cells by attenuating the H/R induced cell cytotoxicity and apoptosis.

BACKGROUND: Cancer is a major public health concern and the second leading cause of death worldwide. Various studies have reported the use of serum microRNAs (miRNAs) as non-invasive biomarkers for cancer detection. However, large-scale pan-cancer studies based on serum miRNAs have been relatively scarce. METHODS: An optimized machine learning workflow, combining least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) analyses, recursive feature elimination (RFE), and fourteen kinds of machine learning algorithms, was use to screen out candidate miRNAs from 2540 serum miRNAs and constructed a potent diagnostic signature (Cancer-related Serum miRNA Signatures) for pan-cancer detection, based on a serum miRNA expression dataset of 38,223 samples. RESULT: Cancer-related Serum miRNA Signatures performed well in pan-cancer detection with an area under curve (AUC) of 0.999, 94.51% sensitivity, and 99.49% specificity in the external validation cohort, and represented an acceptable diagnostic performance for identifying early-stage tumors. Furthermore, the ability of multi-classification of tumors by serum miRNAs in pancreatic, colorectal, and biliary tract cancers was lower than that in other cancers, which showed accuracies of 59%, 58.5%, and 28.9%, respectively, indicating that the difference in serum miRNA expression profiles among a small number of tumor subtypes was not as significant as that between cancer samples and non-cancer controls. CONCLUSION: We have developed a serum miRNA signature using machine learning that may be a cost-effective risk tool for pan-cancer detection. Our findings will benefit not only the predictive diagnosis of cancer but also a preventive and more personalized screening plan.

RNA modifications affect fundamental biological processes and diseases and are a research hotspot. Several micro-RNAs (miRNAs) exhibit genetic variant-targeted RNA modifications that can greatly alter their biofunctions and influence their effect on cancer. Therefore, the potential role of these miRNAs in cancer can be implicated in new prevention and treatment strategies. In this study, we determined whether RMvar-related miRNAs were closely associated with tumorigenesis and identified cancer-specific signatures based on these miRNAs with variants targeting RNA modifications using an optimized machine learning workflow. An effective machine learning workflow, combining least absolute shrinkage and selection operator analyses, recursive feature elimination, and nine types of machine learning algorithms, was used to screen candidate miRNAs from 504 serum RMvar-related miRNAs and construct a diagnostic signature for cancer detection based on 43,047 clinical samples (with an area under the curve value of 0.998, specificity of 93.1%, and sensitivity of 99.3% in the validation cohort). This signature demonstrated a satisfactory diagnostic performance for certain cancers and different conditions, including distinguishing early-stage tumors. Our study revealed the close relationship between RMvar-related miRNAs and tumors and proposed an effective cancer screening tool.

Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs)-derived hepatocyte-like cells (HLCs) have shown great promise in the treatment of liver diseases. However, most current induction protocols yield hepatocyte-like cells with limited function as compared with primary hepatocytes. Schisandrin B (Sch B) is one of the main components of Schisandra chinensis, which can prevent fibrosis progression and promote liver cell regeneration. Herein, we investigated the effects of Sch B on hepatic differentiation of UC-MSCs. We found that treatment with 10 µM Sch B from the second stage of the differentiation process increased hepatic marker levels and hepatic function. Additionally, RNA-seq analysis revealed that Sch B promoted hepatic differentiation via activating the JAK2/STAT3 pathway. When transplanted HLCs into mice with CCL4-induced liver fibrosis, Sch B-treated HLCs exhibited significant therapeutic effects. This study provides an optimized hepatic differentiation protocol for UC-MSCs based on Sch B, yielding functioning cells for liver disease treatment.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the operative techniques of single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SILC) via suture-suspension versus three-device method. METHODS: Retrospective analysis was performed for a total of 300 patients undergoing umbilical single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy from June 2008 to November 2011 at our hospital. The procedures were of suture-suspension (n = 200) and three-device (n = 100). Operative duration, estimated intra-operative blood loss, exposure extent of Calot's triangle, postoperative pain score, hospital stay and complications were compared respectively between two groups. Both groups were matched for age, gender, body mass index (BMI), diagnoses and American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) class. RESULTS: All procedures were completed by the same surgeon. Comparison between two groups showed insignificant differences in blood loss (mean: (15.6 ± 9.5) vs (16.8 ± 7.4) ml; t = 1.266, P = 0.207), postoperative complications (number of case, incision contusion:4 vs 2, P = 1.000;incision hemorrhage:2 vs 2, P = 0.603) and hospitalization duration (mean: (1.6 ± 0.5) vs (1.6 ± 0.5) d; t = 0.653, P = 0.514), but significant differences in operative duration (mean:(40.5 ± 16.0) vs (51.5 ± 18.0) min; t = 5.381, P = 0.000), postoperative pain (mean: 2.0 ± 1.7 vs 3.7 ± 1.6; t = 8.324, P = 0.000) and exposure of Calot's triangle (number of case, 197 vs 68; χ(2) = 60.178, P = 0.000). Thus the suture-suspension method was superior to the three-device counterpart. CONCLUSION: The suture-suspension method of SILC is safe, economic and easy-to-handle in clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: Augmented reality (AR)-assisted navigation system are currently good techniques for hepatectomy; however, its application and efficacy for laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy have not been reported. This study sought to focus on and evaluate the advantages of laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy guided by the AR-assisted navigation system in intraoperative and short-time outcomes. METHODS: Eighty-two patients who underwent laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy from January 2018 to May 2022 were enrolled and divided into the AR and non-AR groups. Clinical baseline features, operation time, intraoperative blood loss, blood transfusion rate, perioperative complications, and mortality were analyzed. RESULTS: AR-guided laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy was performed in the AR group ( n =41), whereas laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy was carried out routinely in the non-AR group ( n =41). There was no significant difference in baseline data between the two groups ( P >0.05); Although the operation time of the AR group was longer than that of the non-AR group (420.15±94.38 vs. 348.98±76.15, P <0.001), the AR group had a less intraoperative blood loss (219.51±167.03 vs. 312.20±195.51, P =0.023), lower blood transfusion rate (24.4 vs. 65.9%, P <0.001), lower occurrence rates of postoperative pancreatic fistula (12.2 vs. 46.3%, P =0.002) and bile leakage (0 vs. 14.6%, P =0.026), and shorter postoperative hospital stay (11.29±2.78 vs. 20.04±11.22, P <0.001) compared with the non-AR group. CONCLUSION: AR-guided laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy has significant advantages in identifying important vascular structures, minimizing intraoperative damage, and reducing postoperative complications, suggesting that it is a safe, feasible method with a bright future in the clinical setting.

Laparoscopic anterior right hepatectomy (LARH) has been used in some hospitals. However, data on the feasibility and safety of this procedure are still limited, due to the demanding technical requirements. The primary objective of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of LARH with those of laparoscopic conventional right hepatectomy (LCRH) in patients with large right hepatocellular carcinoma, as well as to confirm the safety and feasibility of LARH. Furthermore, the article presents a step-by-step description of the surgical procedures for LARH to help perform this surgery in the clinic. The principle of LARH is to first prioritize the hepatic inlet duct separation while separating the right hepatic perihepatic ligament after transecting the liver. From December 2015 to June 2022, 82 patients with large right hepatocellular carcinoma (maximum tumor diameter ≥ 5 cm), were recruited for the study. In this cohort, 54 and 28 patients underwent LARH and LCRH, respectively. The perioperative clinical data and survival outcomes of the two groups were compared. Compared with LCRH, LARH exhibited the advantages of less contact and extrusion, thereby leading to the achievement of superior results. Thus, we propose that LARH is the optimal choice for patients with large right hepatocellular carcinoma.

Mannose-binding lectin 2 (MBL2), a member of the multimeric lectin family, is crucial in immune regulation and tumor development. MBL2 gene polymorphisms are associated with the risk and prognosis of various tumors, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Its functional role in HCC remains largely unclear. In this study, we aimed to identify whether MBL2 is a key regulator and a potential therapeutic target for HCC. A bioinformatics analysis revealed close relationships among MBL2 downregulation, the tumor-associated proliferation and metastasis pathway, and tumor immunosuppressive microenvironments. Lower expression of MBL2 in HCC patients was linked to an unfavorable prognosis. A cell counting kit-8 assay, colony formation assay, transwell migration assay, and wound healing assay further confirmed that the overexpression of MBL2 could directly inhibit the proliferation and metastasis of HCC. Moreover, MBL2 expression was regulated by miR-34c-3p, as confirmed by the dual-luciferase reporter assay, thereby demonstrating tumor progression in HCC cells. Thus, our study offers the first comprehensive confirmation of the role of MBL2 in the development of HCC through multi-omics analysis and experimental validation. Furthermore, miR-34c-3p was found to be an upstream mechanism of the downregulation of MBL2 expression and could be a promising therapeutic target, expanding treatment options for patients with HCC.

Background: Minimal residual disease (MRD) is considered an essential factor leading to relapse within 2 years (early relapse) after radical surgery, which is challenging to be detected by conventional imaging. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) provides a novel approach for detecting MRD and predicting clinical outcomes. Here, we tried to construct a fixed panel for plasma-only ctDNA NGS to enable tumor-uninformed MRD detection in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: Here, we performed the followings: (i) profiling genomic alteration spectrum of ctDNA from the Chinese HCC cohort consisting of 493 individuals by NGS; (ii) screening of MRD monitoring genes; and (iii) performance evaluation of MRD monitoring genes in predicting early relapse in the ZJZS2020 cohort comprising 20 HCC patients who underwent curative resection. Results: A total of 493 plasma samples from the Chinese HCC cohort were detected using a 381/733-gene NGS panel to characterize the mutational spectrum of ctDNA. Most patients (94.1%, 464/493) had at least one mutation in ctDNA. The variants fell most frequently in TP53 (45.1%), LRP1B (20.2%), TERT (20.2%), FAT1 (16.2%), and CTNNB1 (13.4%). By customized filtering strategy, 13 MRD monitoring genes were identified, and any plasma sample with one or more MRD monitoring gene mutations was considered MRD-positive. In the ZJZS2020 cohort, MRD positivity presented a sensitivity of 75% (6/8) and a specificity of 100% (6/6) in identifying early postoperative relapse. The Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed a significantly short relapse-free survival (RFS; median RFS, 4.2 months vs. NR, P=0.002) in the MRD-positive patients versus those with MRD negativity. Cox regression analyses revealed MRD positivity as an independent predictor of poor RFS (HR 13.00, 95% CI 2.60-69.00, P=0.002). Conclusions: We successfully developed a 13-gene panel for plasma-only MRD detection, which was effective and convenient for predicting the risk of early postoperative relapse in HCC.

BACKGROUND: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are noncoding RNAs. Accumulating evidence suggests that circRNAs play a critical role in human biological processes, especially tumorigenesis, and development. However, the exact mechanisms of action of circRNAs in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain unclear. METHODS: Bioinformatic tools and RT-qPCR were used to identify the role of circDHPR, a circRNA derived from the dihydropteridine reductase (DHPR) locus, in HCC and para-carcinoma tissues. Kaplan-Meier analysis and the Cox proportional hazard model were used to analyze the correlation between circDHPR expression and patient prognosis. Lentiviral vectors were used to establish stable circDHPR-overexpressing cells. In vitro and in vivo studies have shown that tumor proliferation and metastasis are affected by circDHPR. Mechanistic assays, including Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, dual-luciferase reporter assays, fluorescence in situ hybridization, and RNA immunoprecipitation, have demonstrated the molecular mechanism underlying circDHPR. RESULTS: CircDHPR was downregulated in HCC, and low circDHPR expression was associated with poor overall survival and disease-free survival rates. CircDHPR overexpression inhibits tumor growth and metastasis in vitro and in vivo. Further systematic studies revealed that circDHPR binds to miR-3194-5p, an upstream regulator of RASGEF1B. This endogenous competition suppresses the silencing effect of miR-3194-5p. We confirmed that circDHPR overexpression inhibited HCC growth and metastasis by sponging miR-3194-5p to upregulate the expression of RASGEF1B, which is regarded as a suppressor of the Ras/MAPK signaling pathway. CONCLUSIONS: Aberrant circDHPR expression leads to uncontrolled cell proliferation, tumorigenesis, and metastasis. CircDHPR may serve as a biomarker and therapeutic target for HCC.

BACKGROUND: Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs) have emerged as promising therapy for immune and inflammatory diseases. However, how to maintain the activity and unique properties during cold storage and transportation is one of the key factors affecting the therapeutic efficiency of hUCMSCs. Schisandrin B (SchB) has many functions in cell protection as a natural medicine. In this study, we investigated the protective effects of SchB on the hypothermic preservation of hUCMSCs. METHODS: hUCMSCs were isolated from Wharton's jelly. Subsequently, hUCMSCs were exposed to cold storage (4 °C) and 24-h re-warming. After that, cells viability, surface markers, immunomodulatory effects, reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial integrity, apoptosis-related and antioxidant proteins expression level were evaluated. RESULTS: SchB significantly alleviated the cells injury and maintained unique properties such as differentiation potential, level of surface markers and immunomodulatory effects of hUCMSCs. The protective effects of SchB on hUCMSCs after hypothermic storage seemed associated with its inhibition of apoptosis and the anti-oxidative stress effect mediated by nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 signaling. CONCLUSION: These results demonstrate SchB could be used as an agent for hypothermic preservation of hUCMSCs.

BACKGROUND: The single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) technique has been used in many surgical procedures, but there are few reports regarding liver surgeries. The purpose of this study was to perform single-incision laparoscopic hepatectomy (SILH) using standard laparoscopic instrumentation in 8 Chinese patients. The advantages and prospective future applications of SILH are also described. METHODS: Selected patients were hospitalized between December 2009 and November 2011. The procedure was accomplished through a 2.5-cm transabdominal wall incision using a laparoscope and 2 other instruments without the assistance of any articulating instruments or single multiport trocar. RESULTS: All procedures were successfully performed without the need for supplemental trocars. Postoperative pathological examinations were supportive of the preoperative diagnoses. No complications such as perioperative hemorrhage or infections occurred. CONCLUSION: SILH appears to be a safe approach and the results are cosmetically favorable. The accumulation of SILH experience and the development of instrumentation are needed for extensive use of this technique in hepatectomies.

Background: Histone acetylation modification is one of the most common epigenetic methods used to regulate chromatin structure, DNA repair, and gene expression. Existing research has focused on the importance of histone acetylation in regulating tumorigenicity, tumor progression, and tumor microenvironment (TME) but has not explored the potential roles and interactions of histone acetylation regulators in TME cell infiltration, drug sensitivity, and immunotherapy. Methods: The mRNA expression and genetic alterations of 36 histone acetylation regulators were analyzed in 1599 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) samples. The unsupervised clustering method was used to identify the histone acetylation patterns. Then, based on their differentially expressed genes (DEGs), an HAscore model was constructed to quantify the histone acetylation patterns and related subtypes of individual samples. Lastly, the relationship between HAscore and transcription background, tumor clinical features, characteristics of TME, drug response, and efficacy of immunotherapy were analyzed. Results: We identified three histone acetylation patterns characterized by high, medium, and low HAscore. Patients with HCC in the high HAscore group experienced worse overall survival time, and the cancer-related malignant pathways were more active in the high HAscore group, comparing to the low HAscore group. The high HAscore group was characterized by an immunosuppressive subtype because of the high infiltration of immunosuppressive cells, such as regulatory T cells and myeloid-derived suppressor cells. Following validation, the HAscore was highly correlated with the sensitivity of anti-tumor drugs; 116 therapeutic agents were found to be associated with it. The HAscore was also correlated with the therapeutic efficacy of the PD-L1 and PD-1 blockade, and the response ratio was significantly higher in the low HAscore group. Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, our study is the first to provide a comprehensive analysis of 36 histone acetylation regulators in HCC. We found close correlations between histone acetylation patterns and tumor malignant pathways and TME. We also analyzed the therapeutic value of the HAscore in targeted therapy and immunotherapy. This work highlights the interactions and potential clinical utility of histone acetylation regulators in treatment of HCC and improving patient outcomes.

Among the lymphatic system in the human body, the spleen is the most extensive one and has hematopoietic, hemofiltration, blood storage, and immune functions. As a new method of preserving the spleen, laparoscopic partial splenectomy (LPS) has been increasingly applied in clinical practice with people's deeper insights into minimally invasive treatment and the development of technical equipment. Compared with conventional open splenectomy, LPS can preserve normal spleen tissue as much as possible, decrease the occurrence of complications after total splenectomy, and reduce postoperative hospital stay. The bipolar radiofrequency excision hemostatic device used for LPS can solidify the splenic tissue and close the small blood vessels, which reduces the hemorrhage of the spleen cross-section and clears the operative field, thus achieving the ideal effect of "bloodless partial splenectomy". Therefore, under the premise of strictly mastering the indications and fully understanding the vascular anatomy of the spleen, the application of the bipolar radiofrequency excision hemostatic device in LPS is worthy of clinical promotion.

BACKGROUND: The augmented reality-assisted navigation system (AR-ANS) has been initially applied to the management of hepatolithiasis. The current study examines the safety and efficacy of the AR-ANS for hepatectomy in the treatment of hepatolithiasis. It is the first study to assess the preoperative and long-term outcomes of hepatectomy guided by the AR-ANS for hepatolithiasis. STUDY DESIGN: From January 2018 to December 2021, 77 patients with hepatolithiasis who underwent hepatectomy at Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University were included. The subjects were divided into the AR group (n = 31) and the non-AR group (n = 46) according to whether the surgery was guided by the AR-ANS. Clinical baseline features, operation time, intraoperative blood loss, immediate postoperative residual stone rate, postoperative stone recurrence rate at 6 months, and postoperative complications were analyzed. RESULTS: There was no significant difference between preoperative baseline data from the 2 groups (p > 0.05). The AR group had a longer surgical time than the non-AR group (p < 0.001). The intraoperative blood loss in the AR group was lower than in the non-AR group (p < 0.001). Alanine transaminase, aminotransferase, immediate residual stone rate, and stone recurrence rate in the AR group were lower than in the non-AR group (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in postoperative complications between the 2 groups. CONCLUSIONS: The application of the AR-ANS in hepatectomy for hepatolithiasis has not only achieved satisfactory therapeutic efficacy, but has also shown significant advantages in reducing intraoperative blood loss, immediate stone residual rate, and stone recurrence rate, which has clinical promotion value.

Background: Drug-induced liver injury is one of the main reasons of withdrawals of drugs in postmarketing stages. However, an experimental model(s) which can accurately recapitulates liver functions and reflects the level of drug hepatotoxicity is lack. In this study, we assessed drug hepatotoxicity using a novel three-dimensional hepatic plate-like hydrogel fiber (3D-P) co-culture system. Methods: During the 28-days culture period, the liver-specific functions, hepatocyte polarity, sensitivity of drug-induced toxicity of 3D-P co-culture system were evaluated with 2D co-culture, collagen sandwich co-culture, 3D hybrid hydrogel fiber co-culture and human primary hepatocytes as controls. High-content imaging and analysis (HCA) methods were used to explore the hepatotoxicity mechanism of five statins. Results: The 3D-P co-culture system showed enhancing liver-specific functions, cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYPs) metabolic activity and bile excretion, which were considered to result from improved hepatocyte polarity. Three of the statins may cause acute or chronic hepatotoxicity by via different mechanisms, such as cholestatic liver injury. Conclusion: Our 3D-P co-culture system is characterized by its biomimetic hepatic plate-like structure, long-term stable liver specificity, and prominent bile secretion function, making it applicable for acute/chronic drug hepatotoxicity assessments.

Portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) is a frequent complication in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). HCC patients with PVTT have the characteristics of less treatment tolerance and poor prognosis. Immunotherapy, especially combined immunotherapy, has been successfully used in advanced HCC. However, there are no recognized universally indicators that can predict response or resistance to immunotherapy for HCC. Herein, we reported a 58-year-old HCC patient with PVTT, cirrhosis and chronic viral hepatitis, who achieved complete response (CR) after combined immunotherapy (camrelizumab combined with sorafenib or regorafenib), according to his high enrichment of tumor-infiltrating immune cells and tertiary lymphoid structure (TLS). In this case, we revealed the characteristics of the baseline tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in a HCC patient who responded well to combined immunotherapy, suggesting that TIME can be used to assist in clinical decision making of immunotherapy for HCC.

The economic burden of tumors is increasing, so there is an urgent need to develop new therapies for their treatment. Killing tumors by activating complement is an effective strategy for the treatment. We used the ABO blood group system and the corresponding antibodies to activate the killer cell capacity of the complement system. After the construction of a mouse model containing blood group A antibodies and inoculating colorectal cancer and breast cancer cells into the axillae of the mice, intratumoural injection using a lentivirus carrying a blood group antigen as a drug significantly reduced the tumor volume of the mice. Compared with the control group, the content of the C5b-9 complement membrane attack complex in the tumors of mice treated with the blood group A antigen was significantly increased, and the proportion of NK cells was also significantly increased. In vitro cell-based experiments proved that tumor cells expressing blood group A antigens showed significantly inhibited cell proliferation when added to serum containing blood group A antibodies. These results all prove that the ABO blood group antigen may become a powerful tool for the treatment of tumors in patients.
