RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Online education has emerged as a crucial tool for imparting knowledge and skills to students in the twenty-first century, especially in developing nations like India, which previously relied heavily on traditional teaching methods. METHODS: This study delved into the perceptions and challenges experienced by students and teachers in the context of online education during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data were collected from a sample of 491 dental students and 132 teachers utilizing a cross-sectional research design and an online-validated survey questionnaire. RESULTS: The study's findings revealed significant insights. Internet accessibility emerged as a major impediment for students, with online instruction proving more effective for theoretical subjects compared to practical ones. Although most teachers expressed comfort with online teaching, they highlighted the absence of classroom interaction as a significant challenge. CONCLUSION: This study comprehensively examines the perspectives of both students and teachers regarding online education during the pandemic. The results carry substantial implications for the academic community, underscoring the need to address internet access issues and explore ways to enhance engagement and interaction in online learning environments.

RESUMEN

Background and Objectives. To differentiate the intensity of postoperative pain after primary molar pulpectomy employing manual instrumentation versus two single-file systems with different kinetics (the XP-Endo shaper file with adaptive instrumentation vs. the Kedo-SG blue file with continuous rotation instrumentation). Materials and Methods. This three-arm, single-blind, randomized clinical trial included assessing 75 healthy children between 4 to 9 years who required pulpectomy for primary molars (mandibular first and second). The three groups each had an equal number of children. Children in Group 1 had their teeth instrumented with the XP-endo Shaper, children in Group 2 had their teeth instrumented with the Kedo-SG Blue file, and children in Group 3 had their teeth instrumented manually using K-files. The degree of postoperative pain was measured using a four-point pain scale at 6-, 12-, 24-, 48-, and 72-h following therapy. Each participant's parent received five flashcards with four faces and a word characterizing each face. The data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and chi-square tests. The level of significance was set to 5%. Results. During the follow-up period, there was a significant difference in postoperative pain intensity between the three groups. The XP-endo shaper was associated with considerably decreased post operative at the 6- and 12-h interval followed by Kedo-SG. The highest post-operative discomfort across the groups was related to the patients who underwent manual instrumentation. Conclusion. In comparison to rotary and manual instrumentation, postoperative pain severity was reduced with adaptive instrumentation.

RESUMEN

Dental caries is indeed the biggest cause of tooth loss, particularly in the primary dentition. In primary teeth with carious pulp involvements, endodontic intervention in the form of pulpotomy (removal of only the coronal pulp) or pulpectomy (removal of coronal and radicular pulp) is advocated. Pulpectomy can be laborious and time-consuming, especially when using traditional hand endodontic files to shape root canals. In paediatric dentistry, motorised nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) rotary instrumentation has proved significant in enhancing the quality of pulpectomy. In primary dentition, however, these files may leave more than half of the root canals unaltered by instrumentation, just as they do in permanent dentition. The XP-endo® Shaper is a revolutionary heat-dependent endodontic file that uses an asymmetrical rotating motion to address the maximum area of the root canal space, resulting in anatomic root canal instrumentation. The case series describes the use of this novel XP-endo® Shaper file for anatomic root canal instrumentation in primary molars with irreversible pulpitis. The purpose is to demonstrate the efficacy and advantages of this cutting-edge endodontic treatment method. This case series can be an informative resource for other endodontic specialists by providing a practical illustration of how adaptable instrumentation can be utilised to successfully treat a patient. In conclusion, The use of the XP-endo Shaper® for pulpectomy demonstrated faster and instrumentation that was confined with the original shape of the canals, although further research is required to fully utilise these findings.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND/AIMS: There is a paucity of literature on external auditory canal (EAC) fractures secondary to maxillofacial trauma, with most of the literature on EAC fractures consisting of isolated case reports. To the authors' best knowledge, this is the first study to use cone beam computed tomography to evaluate the EAC region. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of external auditory canal (EAC) fracture following maxillofacial trauma and to evaluate the association between EAC fracture and other maxillofacial fractures and the region of trauma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred patients were prospectively evaluated over 6 months from February to August 2016. The patients were referred for CBCT regarding temporomandibular joint or condylar fractures following maxillofacial trauma. Two observers (both experienced radiologists) assessed the EAC and associated fractures in the maxillofacial region. RESULTS: External auditory canal (EAC) fracture was confirmed in 32% of the patients. Of the EAC fractures, 68.75% and 31.25% were associated with mandibular fractures and non-mandibular fractures, respectively. Of the EAC fractures, 68.75% were single fractures and 31.25% of patients had multiple comminuted fractures. Significant association was observed on cross-tabulation of the fractured region and region of trauma with the presence of EAC fracture using chi-square test. CONCLUSION: External auditory canal (EAC) fracture is associated with maxillofacial fractures with increased incidence in mandibular fractures compared to non-mandibular fractures.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: To assess the amount of debris extruded apically during instrumentation of distal canals of extracted primary molars by three instrument systems [ProTaper Universal (PTU), ProTaper NEXT (PTN), and self-adjusting file (SAF)] compared with conventional stainless steel hand K-files (HF, control). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Primary mandibular molars (n = 120) with a single distal canal were selected and randomly divided into four groups (n = 30) for root canal instrumentation using group I, HF (to size 0.30/0.02 taper), group II, PTU (to size F3), group III, PTN (to size X3), and group IV, SAF. Debris extruded during instrumentation was collected in preweighed Eppendorf tubes, stored in an incubator at 70°C for 5 days and then weighed. Statistical analysis was performed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Turkey's post hoc test (p = 0.05). RESULTS: All the groups resulted in extrusion of debris. There was statistically significant difference (p < 0.001) in the debris extrusion between the three groups: HF (0.00133 ± 0.00012), PTU (0.00109 ± 0.00005), PTN (0.00052 ± 0.00008), and SAF (0.00026 ± 0.00004). CONCLUSION: Instrumentation with SAF resulted in the least debris extrusion when used for shaping root canals of primary molar teeth. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Debris extrusion in primary teeth poses an adverse effect on the stem cells and may also alter the permanent dental germ. Debris extrusion is rarely reported for primary teeth and it is important for the clinician to know which endodontic instrumentation leads to less extrusion of debris.

RESUMEN

Background: The aim of this investigation was to assess the apical extrusion potential of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) in agarose-embedded mandibular first premolars employing four final agitation procedures. Methods: Based on CBCT confirmation of single oval-shaped canals, one hundred extracted mandibular first premolars were chosen. Using 5.25% NaOCl, the teeth were prepared using the XP Endo Shaper and divided into experimental and control groups. The following were the experimental groups: Group 1 comprised the XP-Endo Finisher, Group 2 the Ultrasonic Activation, Group 3 the Gentle File Finisher Brush, and Group 4 the 27-gauge side-vented needle. To test extrusion, the teeth were placed in a 0.2% agarose gel that contained the pH-sensitive dye m-cresol purple, allowing pixel quantification via ImageJ software (version 1.54i). Results: The XP Endo Finisher featured the most pixels, depicting higher apical extrusion (p < 0.01), followed by the side-vented needle, Gentle File Finisher Brush, and PUI, while the Control Group endured no extrusion. Conclusions: The effective irrigation method for root canal therapy is critical, especially in situations of open apices, resorption, or perforation. According to in vitro experiments, the XP-Endo Finisher has the maximum sodium hypochlorite extrusion, which is determined by parameters such as apical preparation size and irrigation system.

RESUMEN

Background: By increasing fluidity and conversion, pre-heated composites enhance adaptability and strength, while soft-start polymerization decreases internal stresses. Aim: Over a period of a year, this split-mouth design, randomized controlled clinical trial (RCT) compared pre-heated composites with soft-start polymerization to conventional composites in class-I lesions, with the goal of improving restoration outcomes. Methods: and Findings: Immediately following ethical approval and registration with CTRI, 37 patients with in-formed permission who met specified inclusion and exclusion criteria for class-I lesions were chosen for enrollment. Using a 1:1 ratio, teeth were randomly assigned to Group-A (pre-heated composite with soft-start polymerization) or Group-B (traditional composite restoration). At three-time intervals, the evaluation was blinded and calibrated using Modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria: baseline, six-month, and one-year marks. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 21.0 and the Mann-Whitney U test for inter-group comparisons and the Friedman test for intra-group comparisons. Interpretation: Pre-heated composites with soft-start polymerization performed better in terms of marginal adaptation with a statistically significant difference (p = 0.019) and in terms of color match they performed better clinically (p = 0.062) at 12 months. Other variables like marginal discolouration, sec-ondary caries, anatomic form, post-operative sensitivity, surface texture and retention showed no statistically significant difference (p < 0.05). Pre-heated composites with soft-start mode performed marginally better than nanofilled composites. However, both techniques can be used to successfully restore simple class-I carious lesions.

RESUMEN

Background: Over the years, various researchers have attempted to compare digital cephalometry with the conventional manual approach. There is a need to comprehensively analyze the findings from the earlier studies and determine the potential advantages and limitations of each method. The present systematic review aimed to compare the accuracy of digital and manual tracing in cephalometric analysis for the identification of skeletal and dental landmarks. Methods: A systematic search was performed using the keywords "Digital" AND "Manual" AND "Cephalometry" to identify relevant studies published in the English language in the past decade. The electronic data resources consulted for the elaborate search included the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Scopus, ERIC, and ScienceDirect with controlled vocabulary and free text terms. Results: A total of n = 20 studies were identified that fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria within the timeframe of 2013 to 2023. The data extracted from the included articles and corresponding meta-analyses are presented in the text. Conclusions: The findings of the present systematic review and meta-analysis revealed trends suggesting that digital tracing may offer reliable measurements for specific cephalometric parameters efficiently and accurately. Orthodontists must consider the potential benefits of digital cephalometry, including time-saving and user-friendliness.

RESUMEN

Background: This descriptive cross-sectional study focuses on the prevalence of hypertension (HTN) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) amongst patients who visited the Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics department. Recognizing these incidence statistics is critical for improving endodontic therapy delivery and assuring high-quality dental care with positive treatment outcomes. Methods: In advance of getting dental care, all patients visiting the department were advised to get their blood sugar and blood pressure levels checked at random. Measurements were taken with digital equipment, and individuals with high levels were encouraged to seek medical advice before undergoing dental procedures. The obtained data was imported into Excel and analyzed with IBM SPSS software (version 21). Results: The investigation had 1,100 participants (55.8% female and 44.2% male), with an average age of 44.58 ± 12.77 years. Of the individuals, 40.6% were referred for type 2 diabetes, 12.6% for hypertension, and 24.0% for both diseases. There was a significant correlation (p < 0.05) between referral status and gender. The average blood pressure and random blood sugar readings were 141.02 mmHg ± 56.28 mmHg (systolic), 79.83 mmHg ± 10.68 mmHg (diastolic), and 126.68 mg/dL ± 15.36 mg/dL, respectively. There was a substantial (p < 0.05) difference in mean systolic blood pressure between men and women. Furthermore, age was strongly connected with random blood sugar levels (p < 0.05) and systolic and diastolic blood pressure (p < 0.05). There were significant (p < 0.05) variations in mean blood pressure and blood sugar levels between referred and non-referred individuals. Conclusion: Age had a relationship with higher random blood sugar levels, systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure. Dentists should consider patient age while planning treatment, as type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension require unique techniques to emphasize patient safety and produce excellent outcomes.

RESUMEN

Background: Sex estimation is crucial to forensic examinations. In order to estimate sex, intact bones are used if the majority of bones are severely deformed and recovered in fragments. This study aims to analyze sexual dimorphism in intact maxillary sinuses using CBCT scanning to evaluate morphometric properties for sex identification. Methods: A total of 318 subjects, consisting of 159 males and 159 females, aged between 20 and 60 years without sinus pathology were included in this diagnostic, retrospective cross-sectional study. Bilateral measurements of the volume, height, width, and length of the maxillary sinuses were obtained and compared to evaluate the differences between sexes. Subsequently, a descriptive analysis using mean and standard deviation was performed, followed by a comparison between sexes with a p-value being less than 0.05 and Student's t-test. Finally, a discriminant analysis was performed separately for the right and left maxillary sinuses. Results: Males and females showed statistically significant variations in the length, width, and volume of the maxillary sinuses. Specifically, on the right side, males had longer maxillary sinuses than females (t = 5.6203, p < 0.0001). Meanwhile, on the left side, females had wider maxillary sinuses than males (t = 8.621, plt0.0001). In addition, males had greater volumes of maxillary sinuses on the right (t = 6.373, p < 0.0001) and left (t = 3.091, p < 0.0001) sides than females. The results of the discriminant analysis showed that the left width parameter had the highest accuracy of sex estimation (74.21%), followed by the Right Length (70.07%) and left volume (66.66%) parameters. The left height parameter had the lowest accuracy of sex estimation (49.37%). Conclusion: In forensic odontology, the volume of maxillary sinus can serve as a valid radiographic indicator of sex estimation.

RESUMEN

Background: A preoperative three-dimensional examination of the sphenoid sinus anatomy, its pneumatization pattern, and its relevance to neighboring neurovascular constructions is crucial to preventing possible complications. In this study, the aim was to evaluate the relationship between sphenoid sinus pneumatization types and the sella turcica using computed tomography (CT). Methods: CT data from 420 patients referred to the Department of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology were evaluated retrospectively. Sella pneumatization types were classified as conchal, presellar, incomplete sellar, and complete sellar, and they were evaluated. Obtained data were evaluated using the IBM SPSS 25.0 (Armonk, New York, USA) package program. Results: CT images of 420 individuals, including 174 women and 246 men with a mean age of 43.87 ± 17.58 years, were included in the study. When the sella turcica morphologies were evaluated, the most widespread morphological type was irregularity in the posterior part of the dorsum sella, in 51.2% of cases. In addition, a statistically significant correlation was found between the pneumatization of the sphenoid sinus and the morphological types of sella (p < 0.05). Conclusion: In this research endeavor, the predominant observation comprised the complete sellar sphenoid sinus pneumatization type, exhibiting irregularity in the posterior aspect of the dorsum sella, representing one of the sellar types. Notwithstanding, it is imperative to conduct additional investigations to establish the generalizability of the present study's findings.

RESUMEN

The aim of this study is to assess and analyze the intratubular penetration of the intracanal medications nitrofurantoin (Nit), triple antibiotic paste (TAP), and calcium hydroxide (CH). Sixty freshly extracted single-rooted teeth were acquired and decoronated to a standard length of 15 mm. To prepare specimens up to size F3, rotary ProTaper instrumentation was employed. The prepared teeth were divided into three groups, each of which received one of the tested intracanal medicaments: Group I (calcium hydroxide), Group II (triple antibiotic paste), and Group III (nitrofurantoin). Using a size #30 Lentulo spiral, a freshly prepared therapeutic paste was placed into the canals, and the intracanal medicaments were allowed to set in the incubator at 100% humidity. The samples were subsequently sliced perpendicularly to their long axis using a precision saw and assessed under a scanning electron microscope to assess the depth of penetration of intracanal medicaments at the coronal, middle, and apical portions of the root canal dentin. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test. The statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between the experimental groups in the quantity and depth of sealer penetration (p < 0.05). In particular, as compared to the Nit group, both the CH and TAP groups had significantly smaller penetration areas (p < 0.05). In conclusion, this ongoing investigation indicates that nitrofurantoin penetrated dentinal tubules better than calcium hydroxide or triple antibiotic paste.

RESUMEN

Root canal treatment (RCT) eliminates damaged pulpal tissue and protects the tooth from recurrent microbial invasion. Post-endodontic pain (PEP) is a frequently encountered complication of root canal therapy. It can have an impact on patients' quality of life (QoL) and their subjective perception of treatment options. Thus, a self-assessment questionnaire was used to evaluate and compare the influence of manual, rotary, and reciprocating file shaping procedures on immediate post-operative quality of life (POQoL) involving single-visit root canal therapy. It was a double-blinded, randomized, controlled clinical trial. A total of 120 participants were randomly assigned sequentially to three groups comprising 40 patients in each group: Group A: Hand K file (positive control); Group B: ProTaper Next file system; and Group C: WaveOne Gold. Post-operative pain was evaluated using a 4-point visual analog scale (VAS) after 12 h, 24 h, 48 h, 72 h, and 1 week. The highest post-operative pain was with manual instrumentation using hand K files, and the lowest was with reciprocating and rotating instrumentations. No significant difference was noted between the parameters of quality of life assessed, suggesting the filing system or technique had a similar effect.

RESUMEN

The pushout bond strength of root fillings at radicular dentin was investigated employing NaOCl, CHX, and homoeopathic mother tincture (Arnica montana) as an irrigant. Sixty human permanent single-rooted extracted teeth were decoronated. The root canals were instrumented using Pro taper universal rotary system (Dentsply Tulsa Dental; Tulsa, Oklahoma) and were prepared up to F3 apical size. The roots were then randomly divided into three groups according to irrigation solution (n = 20) according to the final irrigation regimen: Group I: 3 mL 5.25% NaOCl followed by 3 mL Saline (control); Group II: 3 mL Arnica montana (10%, w/v) followed by 3 mL Saline; Group III: 3 mL CHX followed by 3 mL Saline. The canals were dried using paper points. The canals were coated with AH Plus sealer (Dentsply DeTey, Konstaz, Germany) with the aid of a Lentulo spiral (Dentsply DeTey, Konstaz, Germany) and obturated with #F3 gutta-percha. Each root was then horizontally sliced into three slices, labelled coronal, middle, and apical, each measuring 2 mm thick. Furthermore, at a crosshead speed of 2 mm/min, the test was carried out using the universal testing apparatus. The 5.25% NaOCl significantly decreased the bond strength of AH Plus to dentin. Both CHX and Arnica montana were capable of reversing the compromised pushout of AH Plus to NaOCl-treated dentin. After using NaOCl as an irrigant, the danger of diminished binding capacity of AH Plus to root canal walls arises. Final irrigation with Arnica montana and CHX reduces this risk.

RESUMEN

Aim: The present study was designed to assess trends in contemporary endodontic practice regarding the techniques and materials used in endodontic therapy among dental practitioners from various regions of India. Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was conducted amongst dentists who were pursuing postgraduates in endodontics (PG Endo) and other branches (PG-OB), specialists from other branches (MDS-OB) and specialists in endodontics (MDS-Endo) in various dental colleges representing East, West, North, South, and Central zones through an e-survey using Google forms. State-wise postgraduate dental college lists were obtained from the Dental Council of India (DCI) website. Using a multistage cluster random sampling method and considering the unanticipated response rate, emails were sent to 2100. A 29-item close-ended questionnaire, framed according to different aspects of endodontic treatment, was used to record the responses. Results: When the distribution of the groups of dentists was compared, the central zone had the highest number of PG-OB (44.2%) and the lowest number of MDS-Endo (8.4%). The electronic apex locator (EAL) method of working length determination has been reported less among MDS-Endo than MDS-OB. The difference between the usage of various methods for working length determination was significant among the different groups in all the zones. (p < 0.0001) Most MDS-Endo preferred the rotary method of instrumentation over the combination method for different zones. The majority of dental practitioners preferred a combination method of instrumentation. Conclusion: Zone-wise comparisons among dentists showed the majority of general dental practitioners preferred the combination method (radiographs and electronic apex locator) for working length determination. Most MDS-Endo preferred the rotary method of instrumentation over the combination method for different zones. All dental practitioners did not so commonly use magnification in all the zones. The single cone technique was the most opted by dental practitioners of all the zones.

RESUMEN

The aim of endodontic therapy is to use various antimicrobial medications for proper cleaning and shaping to create an environment free of microorganisms by eradicating as many as possible from the root canal space. Even although it is a gold standard irrigant, sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is known for its cytotoxic effects on vital periapical tissues, making its higher concentrations inappropriate for use in conditions such as wide, underdeveloped, or damaged apices and in cases of perforations. Consequently, if it is ascertained that a gel form of sodium hypochlorite has equivalent antibacterial activity to the aqueous solution form, it could be employed in such situations. The aim of this study was the microbiologic evaluation of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite gel and aqueous solution as root canal disinfectants in multirooted teeth with primary endodontic lesions. Following ethical approval and CTRI registration, 42 patients who gave their consent and had multirooted teeth with pulpal necrosis and asymptomatic apical periodontitis were considered for the study. Following the opening of the access, pre-endodontic build up in case of class-II cavities and working length determination, a pre-operative sample (S1), which was regarded as the pre-operative microbial load of that canal, was acquired from the largest canal using a sterile paper point while maintaining strict isolation and disinfection. The computer randomization approach was used to divide the teeth into two groups at random just before beginning of chemo-mechanical preparation: Group A (n = 21)-canal disinfection with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite gel; Group B (n = 21)-canal disinfection with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution. Following the canal disinfection, a post-operative (S2) sample which was regarded as the postoperative microbial load of that canal was collected from the same canal using a sterile paper point. The Colony-Forming Units (CFUs) for the S1 and S2 samples were determined after 48 h aerobic incubation on Brain Heart Infusion (BHI) agar plates. The patients and the microbiologist were blinded throughout the procedure. Using SPSS 20.0 software (USA), the Shapiro-Wilk test and the Lilliefors Significance Correction were used for normality, followed by the Mann-Whitney U test which was used to compare the CFU difference (×105) between the two groups. A p value of <0.05 was perceived as statistically significant. The mean colony-forming units count difference between the 5.25% sodium hypochlorite gel and aqueous solution groups did not differ in a manner that was statistically significant (p = 0.744). In multirooted teeth with primary endodontic lesions, the 5.25% sodium hypochlorite gel and the aqueous solution demonstrated comparable antimicrobial effectiveness when implemented as root canal disinfectants.

RESUMEN

Purpose: Evaluate the efficacy of transdermal patches containing ketoprofen and diclofenac sodium compared to oral diclofenac tablets in reducing post-endodontic pain after single-visit root canal therapy for teeth with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Methods: A total of 78 eligible participants with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and preoperative VAS scores of 4 or above were enrolled after obtaining ethical approval (SVIEC/ON/DENT/SRP/22064) and CTRI registration (CTRI/2022/07/044231). Exclusion criteria included pregnancy, lactation, fractured/cracked teeth, developmental anomalies, tooth pathology, or ongoing analgesic/NSAID use. After root canal treatment, participants were randomized into three groups using computer randomization. Groups A and B received transdermal patches with Ketoprofen and diclofenac sodium, respectively, applied to the right forearm for 24 hours, with an additional patch on the left forearm for the next day. Group C received four diclofenac sodium oral tablets, twice daily for two days. VAS scales were used to assess pain at 4, 8, 24, and 48 hours post-treatment. The VAS scores collected were tabulated and statistically analyzed using SPSS version 21 with (P < 0.05). Shapiro Wilk test and the Related Samples Friedman's Two-Way Analysis of Variance by Ranks were used for statistical evaluation. Results: Statistically significant reductions in mean postoperative pain scores were observed across all groups at all time points compared to preoperative scores. Notably, the Ketoprofen patch group exhibited superior performance compared to the diclofenac transdermal patch and oral diclofenac tablet groups at 48 hours, with statistical significance (p=0.047). Conclusion: The present evidence substantiates the efficacy of transdermal patches containing diclofenac and ketoprofen in managing postoperative pain arising from symptomatic irreversible pulpitis in single-rooted teeth. By avoiding the use of oral NSAIDs, these patches provide effective pain relief while minimizing the risk of adverse effects, presenting a favorable option for patients.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Forensic odontology is a subfield of forensics that can assist in determining age, gender, and other demographic factors. OBJECTIVE: The focus of this research is to ascertain age by tooth volume ratio of permanent maxillary canines using a CBCT scan. METHODS: In this retrospective investigation, 1000 CBCT images were gathered and focused on only fully developed maxillary canines. For each of the maxillary canines, the researchers measured and calculated the volume of the pulp chamber, root canal, and entire tooth using the ITK Snap programme. The pulp volume to tooth volume ratio was computed. The equation AGE = 59.208 - (583.652 x pulp volume/tooth volume) was then used to compute age. The samples were divided into 5 age groups; 13-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, and 51-60. The age was calculated for samples in each group and it was compared to the actual age. RESULTS: Between individuals' actual age and computed age, the study discovered a statistically significant positive association. While groups 3, 4, and 5 demonstrated positive but weaker correlations (r= 0.854, r= 0.658, and r= 0.612, respectively), groups 1 and 2 displayed statistically significant strong positive correlations (r= 0.987 and r= 0.923, respectively). The average total discrepancy between the age that was computed and the actual age was 2.45 1.344. CONCLUSION: The study found a statistically significant positive correlation between computed age and actual age, with the younger age groups 1 (13-20) and 2 (21-30) showing the strongest relationships. This underlines its potential success in court, particularly when dealing with young criminals.
