RESUMEN
Possible interrelations between the immune response factor VIII and the major histocompatibility system were investigated in 57 multi-transfused hemophilic brothers belonging to 26 families. Linkage appears very unlikely although formal proof of independence cannot be offered. The HLA system, therefore, does not provide markers predictive for the development of antibodies to factor VIII in severe hemophilia A.

Adsorption of clotting factors by various adsorbants is studied (tricalcium phosphate, baryum sulfate or carbonate or citrate, calcium oxalate, aluminium hydroxyde and several silicate such as: kaolin, celite, bentonite, attapulgite, beidellite, asbestos). The main properties of each adsorbant are listed as well as several applications such as: selective adsorption of fibrinogen, separation between fibrinogen and factor VIII, separation of factor II from the other components of the prothrombin complex. Activation of factors XII and XI by the various silicates, as well as the activation of factor V by attapulgite are studied. Finally, the action of such adsorbants on the fibrinolytic system is summarized.

The beidellite is both an activator and an adsorbing agent for certain clotting factors: at low concentration (1 p. 1 000), factors XII and VII of human plasma are activated. At a concentration of 10 p. 1 000, the fibrinogen is totally adsorbed, leaving in the supernatant most of the VIII. At alpha 20 p. 1 000 concentrations, most of factor II remains unabsorbed, the remaining plasma being devoided of other clotting factors except minute amounts of factors XI and XII. Contrarely to bentonite, which has similar properties, beidellite does not absorb water and does not modify the pH. Beidellite is therefore a very useful agent for selective adsorption of clotting factors.

The process of coagulation of the hemolymph in Macropipus puber (L.) Crustacea Decapod depends on one or several plasmatic factors and on a thermo-labile cellular factor which does not seem to be specific. The existence of these factors has been demonstrated.

Electrophoretical and immuno-electrophoretical analysis of plasma, serum and some plasmatic extracts of Macropipus puber (L). have evidenced the presence in the plasma of a component absent in the serum. This component which disappears from the plasmatic extracts after their coagulation must therefore plays a role in the clotting processes.

The pattern of HLA segregation was analyzed in 10 sibships of haemophilia A patients, each of which included 1 or 2 haemophilic brothers with an antibody to factor VIII. The observed HLA distribution is suggestive of a linkage between the major histocompatibility complex and a gene responsible for immune response to isologous factor VIII.
