RESUMEN

We report a covalent organic framework (COF) induced seeding strategy to fabricate metal-organic framework (MOF) membranes. Contrary to graphene oxide nuclei-depositing substrate, COF substrate has uniform pore size, high microporosity and abundant functional groups. We designed a series of charged COF nanosheets to induce the formation of ZIF-8@COF nanosheet seeds with high aspect ratio over 150, which were readily processed into a compact and uniform seed layer. The resulting ZIF-8 membranes with thickness down to 100 nm exhibit an ultrahigh C3 H6 /C3 H8 separation performance and superior long-term stability. Our strategy is also validated by fabricating ultrathin ZIF-67 and UiO-66 membranes.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of compound qizhu granule (CQG) on cellular immunity of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients. METHODS: Totally 103 CHB patients treated with lamivudin (LAM) for 6 months, who had partial virological response (HBeAg positive) were randomly assigned to two groups, 50 in the treatment group and 53 in the control group. All patients took LAM 100 mg (once a day) plus ADV 10 mg (once a day). Patients in the treatment group additionally took CQG, one dose per day. After one-year treatment hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA negative rates, HBeAg seroconversion, levels of HBV specific cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL), non-specific CTL and natural killing (NK) cells were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: After 1-year treatment, HBV DNA negative rate of the treatment group was 88: 0% in 44 cases, slightly higher than that of the control group (41 cases, 77.4%), but with no statistical difference (P >0.05). HBeAg seroconversion of the treatment group was 32.0% in 16 cases, higher than that of the control group (8 cases, 15.1%), with statistical difference (P <0.05). Levels of HBV specific CTL (0.79%±0. 07%), non-specific CTL (19.4%±1.8%) and NK cells (14. 1%± 1.5%) of the treatment group were higher than those of the control group (0.58% ± 0.08%, 17.5% ± 1.7%, and 11.1%±1.5%, respectively; allP <0.01). CONCLUSION: Treating CHB patients with partial virological response by ADV plus CQG could improve specific and non-specific cellular immunity, thereby elevating HBeAg seroconversion rate.

Molecular-sieving membranes from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising candidates for separating olefin/paraffin mixtures, a critical demand in sustainable chemical processes and a grand challenge in molecular separation. Currently, the inherent lattice flexibility of MOFs severely compromises their precise sieving ability. Here, a proof-of-concept of "alloy" membranes (AMs), which are fabricated by incorporating quaternary ammonium (QA)-functionalized covalent organic frameworks (COFs) into a zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) matrix is demonstrated. The Coulomb force between the COFs and the ZIF-8 restricts the linker rotation of the ZIF-8, generating a distinct alloying effect, by which the lattice rigidity of ZIF-8 can be conveniently tuned through varying the content of the COFs, similar to the flexible-to-rigid transition in aluminum alloy manufacturing. Such an alloying effect confers the AM's superior propylene/propane separation performance, with a propylene/propane separation factor surpassing 200 and a propylene permeance of 168 GPU. Hopefully, the AMs concept and the concomitant alloying effect can update the connotation of mixed matrix membranes and stimulate the re-envisioning about the design paradigm and development of advanced membranes for energy-efficient separations.

RESUMEN

Two-dimensional (2D) materials with atomic thicknesses have aroused great interest as promising building blocks for the preparation of ultrathin 2D membranes. These 2D membranes can exhibit unprecedentedly high separation permeance owing to their ultrasmall membrane thicknesses and superior selectivity because of their size-selective nanopores and/or nanochannels. Until now, a large number of 2D membranes with good performance have been reported, highlighting the potential of these novel membranes for efficient liquid and gas separations. Summarized in this review are the latest advances in 2D membranes, with a special focus on industrially attractive separation processes, fabrication methods of laminar membranes, choices of membrane materials, designs of membrane structures, and unique membrane transport properties. Opportunities and challenges of 2D membranes for commercial applications are also briefly discussed.

The aim of the present study was to observe the effects of Fuzheng Huayu capsule combined with Pegasys (peginterferon α-2a) on hepatic fibrosis in rats and in the treatment of patients with genotype 1 hepatitis C and hepatic cirrhosis. A dimethylnitrosamine (DMN)-induced rat model of liver injury was established. Fuzheng Huayu capsule combined with Pegasys was administered to the rats and the DMN-induced hepatocyte apoptosis was observed. In addition, a total of 100 patients with genotype 1 hepatitis C and hepatic cirrhosis were treated by oral administration of Fuzheng Huayu capsule combined with Pegasys or with Pegasys alone. The therapeutic effect of Fuzheng Huayu capsule combined with Pegasys was analyzed. Following the oral administration of Fuzheng Huayu capsule combined with Pegasys to the DMN model rats, the expression of α-smooth muscle actin was found to be significantly reduced, hemopoietic stem cell apoptosis was increased and liver cell apoptosis was reduced. These indices were significantly different compared with those in the model group (P<0.05). Liver function and liver fibrosis were markedly recovered in hepatitis C patients with hepatic cirrhosis following treatment with the combination treatment compared with those in the patients treated with Pegasys alone (P<0.05). In conclusion, the combination of Fuzheng Huayu capsule with Pegasys inhibited liver fibrosis and cell apoptosis, and may be a novel therapeutic strategy for the treatment of patients with compensated cirrhosis due to hepatitis C. This study provides a method for the optimization of existing treatment strategies and for the establishment of potentially effective combination therapies.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the clinical effects of blood purification for treating fulminant hepatic failure (FHF). METHODS: Thirty-three severe FHF patients with hepatic encephalopathy (HE) above grade III were subjected to a combined blood purification treatment in addition to the comprehensive liver protection therapy. Patients underwent continuous hemofiltration on a daily basis during the daytime followed by sequential treatment with plasma exchange or hemodialysis every 2-3 days. The therapeutic effects of this treatment were evaluated. RESULTS: After treatment with blood purification, restoration of consciousness (those who abandoned the treatment without restoration of consciousness were excluded) was achieved in 6 of 8 cases (75%) in acute liver failure (ALF) group, 3 of 3 cases (100%) in subacute liver failure (SALF) group, and 9 of 14 cases (64.29%) in acute/subacute on chronic liver failure (A/SCLF) group. Of all cases, 11 patients restored consciousness after 7 days in a coma. The rate of long-term survival (those who abandoned the treatment were excluded) was 3/7 (42.86%) for ALF group, 2/2 (100%) for SALF group, and 1/11 (9.09%) for A/SCLF group. The levels of hemoglobin and platelet in peripheral blood were significantly reduced after blood purification. CONCLUSIONS: Treatment of FHF patients with daily continuous hemofiltration during the daytime is effective in treating HE and in improving health status in the early stages of the disease. Long-term prognosis also benefits from this treatment. The rate of consciousness recovery and long-term survival is highest in SALF group followed by ALF group. This treatment is less effective in A/SCLF patients. It should be noted that blood purification procedure may cause damage to blood cells.
