RESUMEN

Luminescent metal clusters have attracted great interest in current research; however, the design synthesis of Al clusters with color-tunable luminescence remains challenging. Herein, an [Al8 (OH)8 (NA)16 ] (Al8 , HNA = nicotinic acid) molecular cluster with dual luminescence properties of fluorescence and room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) is synthesized by choosing HNA ligand as phosphor. Its prompt photoluminescence (PL) spectrum exhibits approximately white light emission at room temperature. Considering that halogen atoms can be used to regulate the RTP property by balancing the singlet and triplet excitons, different CdX2 (X- = Cl- , Br- , I- ) are introduced into the reactive system of the Al8 cluster, and three new Al8 cluster-based metal-organic frameworks, {[Al8 Cd3 Cl5 (OH)8 (NA)17 H2 O]·2HNA}n (CdCl2 -Al8 ), {[Al8 Cd4 Br7 (OH)8 (NA)16 CH3 CN]·NA·HNA}n (CdBr2 -Al8 ) and {[Al8 Cd8 I16 (OH)8 (NA)16 ]}n (CdI2 -Al8 ) are successfully obtained. They realize the color tunability from blue to yellow at room temperature. The origination of fluorescence and phosphorescence has also been illustrated by structure-property analysis and theoretical calculation. This work provides new insights into the design of multicolor luminescent metal cluster-based materials and develops advanced photo-functional materials for multicolor display, anti-counterfeiting, and encryption applications.

RESUMEN

The recovery of gold from water is an important research area. Recent reports have highlighted the ultrahigh capacity and selective extraction of gold from electronic waste using reduced graphene oxide (rGO). Here, we made a further attempt with the thermal rGO membranes and found that the thermal rGO membranes also had a similarly high adsorption efficiency (1.79 g gold per gram of rGO membranes at 1000 ppm). Furthermore, we paid special attention to the detailed selectivity between Au3+ and other ions by rGO membranes. The maximum adsorption capacity for Au3+ ions was about 16 times that of Cu2+ ions and 10 times that of Fe3+ ions in a mixture solution with equal proportions of Au3+/Cu2+ and Au3+/Fe3+. In a mixed-ion solution containing Au3+:Cu2+:Na+:Fe3+:Mg2+ of printed circuit board (PCB), the mass of Au3+:Cu2+:Na+:Fe3+:Mg2+ in rGO membranes is four orders of magnitude higher than the initial mass ratio. A theoretical analysis indicates that this selectivity may be attributed to the difference in the adsorption energy between the metal ions and the rGO membrane. The results are conducive to the usage of rGO membranes as adsorbents for Au capture from secondary metal resources in the industrial sector.

RESUMEN

Structurally well-defined discrete d/f heterometallic complexes show diverse application potential in electrooptic and magnetic materials. However, precise control of the component and topology of such heterometallic compounds with fine-tuned photophysical properties is still challenging. Herein, we report the stereocontrolled syntheses of a series of LnIII-PtII heterometallic cages through coordination-driven self-assembly of enantiopure alkynylplatinum-based metalloligands (L1R/S, L2R/S) with lanthanide ions (Ln = EuIII, YbIII, NdIII, LuIII). Taking advantage of the metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) excited state on the designed alkynylplatinum ligands, the excitation window for the sensitized near-infrared (NIR) luminescence on the YbIII- and NdIII-containing cages can be extended to the visible region (up to 500 nm). Linear temperature-dependent red and NIR emissions observed on the Ln4(L2R/S)6 (LnIII = EuIII and YbIII, respectively) complexes suggest their potential applications as luminescent temperature sensors, with sensitivities of -0.54% (LnIII = EuIII, 77-250 K) and -0.17% (LnIII = YbIII, 77-300 K) per K achieved. This work not only offers a good strategy to prepare new d/f heterometallic supramolecular cages but also paves the way for the design of stimuli-responsive luminescent materials.

RESUMEN

Necroptosis, a form of inflammation-related programmed cell death, is a major mechanism of proximal tubular cell injury in acute kidney injury (AKI). Blockade of necroptosis signalling represents a promising strategy for clinical therapy of AKI. Previously, we identified a small molecular receptor-interacting protein kinases (RIPK)1 inhibitor Cpd-71 with nephroprotective activities. To discover more nephroprotective agents, in this study, 20 chalcone derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for their anti-necroptosis and nephroprotective activities. Among the chalcone derivatives, Cpd-2 exhibited the most potent anti-necroptosis activity (IC50  = 1.08 µM) and protective activity (EC50 = 1.49 µM) through directly binding to RIPK1 and blocking RIPK1-RIPK3-mixed-lineage kinase domain-like protein (MLKL) signalling pathway. Furthermore, Cpd-2 effectively attenuated cisplatin or hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-induced injury and necroptotic inflammation in renal cell models. Moreover, in cisplatin- or ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) induced AKI mouse model, detection of creatinine and urea nitrogen in blood showed that Cpd-2 improved kidney function. Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining and immunofluorescence analysis indicated that Cpd-2 also reduced pathological damage and inhibited inflammatory development in kidney tissues. In summary, although some chalcone derivatives have been reported to prevent kidney injury previously, our present study not only discovered a promising leading compound Cpd-2, but also provided a novel and successful practice for the development of necroptosis inhibitors from natural products derivatives as AKI therapeutic agents.

RESUMEN

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of exposure to endotoxin on the reproductive performance of humans and animals in pregnancy and delivery period. Mucin is considered to play a critical role in protecting the tissue epithelium. At pregnancy period, the MUC2 expression of uterus in the High LPS group was significantly higher than that in the Control group. The glycosaminoglycans of gland cells were secreted into the uterine cavity to protect the uterus. Then, the MUC2 layer became thinner, and LPS entered the lamina propria of the uterus. The mRNA expression of tight junction proteins showed a marked drop, and morphological damage of the uterus occurred. Subsequently, the glycosaminoglycans of gland cells in the High LPS and Low LPS groups increased with the increasing LPS dose, and the damage to the endometrial epithelium was repaired in female mice at Day 5 postdelivery. A low dose of LPS activated the PI3K/AKT signaling pathways to increase the glycosaminoglycans particles, while a high dose of LPS inhibited the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway to decrease the glycosaminoglycans particles. Taken together, our results suggest that gland cells secreted glycosaminoglycans particles into the uterine cavity by exocytosis to increase the thickness of the mucus layer to protect the uterus and that this process was regulated by PI3K/AKT signaling pathways.

RESUMEN

A nanocomposite was prepared by loading UiO-67 nanoparticles onto porous carbon materials derived from Ce-MOF (Ce-PC) for fluorescence detection of glyphosate. The probe (UiO-67/Ce-PC) exhibits fluorescence emission at 414 nm as the response signal under excitation at 310 nm. The fluorescence enhancement mode of UiO-67 reduces the background interference, and the introduction of Ce-PC provide hierarchical nanostructure and large specific surface area that can increase the contact availability and improve the pre-enrichment effect, ensuring UiO-67/Ce-PC with superior sensitivity. The abundant metal hydroxyl group (M-O-H) of UiO-67/Ce-PC could recognize phosphoryl groups (-PO3H2) of glyphosate through ligand exchange, which synergizes with H-bonding interaction and electrostatic attraction to exhibit specificity toward glyphosate. The competitive coordination effects weaken the ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) and consequently induce the fluorescence recovery. The calibration plot of the fluorescence enhancement response of UiO-67/Ce-PC towards glyphosate was recorded in the range 0.02-30 µg mL-1 with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0062 µg mL-1, which is superior to the pure UiO-67. In addition, the sensor exhibited high selectivity and satisfactory accuracy and precision with recoveries of 92.1-105.6% and RSDs below 3.4%. This work not only presents a feasible sensor for sensitive and selective determination of glyphosate from cereal samples, but also provides a promising strategy for the design of MOF-based nanocomposites to achieve trace detection of various pollutants.

RESUMEN

In computed tomography (CT), the total variation (TV) constrained algebraic reconstruction technique (ART) can obtain better reconstruction quality when the projection data are sparse and noisy. However, the ART-TV algorithm remains time-consuming since it requires large numbers of iterations, especially for the reconstruction of high-resolution images. In this work, we propose a fast algorithm to calculate the system matrix for line intersection model and apply this algorithm to perform the forward-projection and back-projection operations of the ART. Then, we utilize the parallel computing techniques of multithreading and graphics processing units (GPU) to accelerate the ART iteration and the TV minimization, respectively. Numerical experiments show that our proposed parallel implementation approach is very efficient and accurate. For the reconstruction of a 2048 × 2048 image from 180 projection views of 2048 detector bins, it takes about 2.2 seconds to perform one iteration of the ART-TV algorithm using our proposed approach on a ten-core platform. Experimental results demonstrate that our new approach achieves a speedup of 23 times over the conventional single-threaded CPU implementation that using the Siddon algorithm.

RESUMEN

Mastitis is a complication seen in some breastfeeding mothers and is the most common inflammatory lesion of the breast in breastfeeding mothers. In this complication, breast milk undergoes chemical and physical changes. It can lead to a drop in breastfeeding, weight loss, and, consequently, stunted growth of infants. Bacteria are the main cause of breast inflammation. Therefore, in this study, bacterial factors of mastitis were evaluated in lactating women. Also, their effects were considered on the physical properties and chemical composition of mothers' breast milk. For this purpose, 210 breastfeeding mothers referred to health centers were randomly selected, and their milk samples were collected. In addition to collecting mothers' demographic information by a questionnaire, the chemical composition (sugar, protein, and fat) and the physical properties (pH, density, and freezing temperature) of milk were measured. Bacterial evaluations were performed on the milk of these mothers by catalase test, coagulase test, and mannitol salt agar. Data were analyzed by SPSS software, Chi-square, Mann-Whitney U test, and T-test. The results showed that 56 mothers had mastitis, and Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative staphylococci were the main bacteria in the milk of these mastitis mothers. These bacteria caused physical and chemical changes in breast milk so that mothers with Staphylococcus aureus mastitis had less sugar in their milk, and mothers with coagulase-negative staphylococci had less protein in their milk. Therefore, Staphylococcus aureus may reduce milk sugar by consuming milk sugar, and coagulase-negative staphylococci may also target milk protein. But to confirm these results, a larger population of mothers with mastitis is needed. Further studies are also needed to prove this result.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Enterocytozoon bieneusi, a microsporidian species, is a zoonotic pathogen found in both humans and animals. Here, we determined the prevalence, explored the different genotypes of E. bieneusi in wild rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta) (Hainan Island of China), and assessed their zoonotic potential. METHODS: We collected 173 fecal specimens from wild rhesus macaques living in Nanwan Monkey Island, Hainan, China. Subsequently, we identified and genotyped E. bieneusi using nested PCR analysis amplification of the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) of the rRNA gene. Lastly, a neighbor-joining tree was built based on gene sequences from the ITS region of E. bieneusi. RESULTS: Of the 173 specimens from wild rhesus macaques, 26 (15%) were infected with E. bieneusi. We identified six genotypes of E. bieneusi, of which five were known: PigEBITS7 (n = 20), D (n = 2), Type IV (n = 1), Peru6 (n = 1), Henan-III (n = 1), and a novel genotype: HNM-IX (n = 1). From the phylogenetic analysis, the six genotypes identified here were all clustered into zoonotic group 1. CONCLUSION: This study is the first report to detect E. bieneusi infection in wild rhesus macaques from Hainan, China. Human-pathogenic genotypes D, Henan-III, Peru6, PigEbITS7, and Type IV in the wild rhesus macaques support these animals infected with E. bieneusi have a public health significance.

RESUMEN

The present work aimed to explore the protective effect of APSP on Pb-induced reproductive toxicity and possible mechanism. APSP (100 mg/kg) was administered to Pb-intoxicated (0.2% lead acetate) male Kunming mice once daily by oral gavage for 6 weeks. Our results showed that APSP exerted male reproductive protection effects as showed by attenuated Pb-induced testicular injury, improved sperm count and motility, and reduced sperm abnormality rate. APSP also restored Pb-induced decrease in both enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants, and GSH/GSSG ratio, but inhibited lipid peroxidation in serum and testes. Moreover, APSP downregulated Pb-induced Bax mRNA and protein expressions, suppressed activation of caspase-3, upregulated Bcl-2 protein expression, and prevented Pb-induced DNA damage. APSP treatment also interfered with Pb-induced testicular JNK signaling through inhibition of JNK mRNA expression and phosphorylation, resulting in inhibition of c-Jun expression. These effects of APSP were abolished by Pb. In conclusion, APSP represents a potential therapeutic agent for preventing Pb-caused reproductive toxicity, which is attributed to its antioxidant and anti-apoptotic properties, as well as, modulation of JNK signaling pathway.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The aim of the current study was to investigate the inhibitory effect of lycopene (LYC), a major carotenoid present in tomato, on high-fat and high-fructose western diet (HFFD)-induced cognitive impairments and the protective effects on HFFD-elicited insulin resistance, lipid metabolism dysfunction and inflammatory responses in the gut-liver-brain axis. SUBJECTS/METHODS: We randomly assigned 3-month-old C57BL/6 J mice to three groups with different diets: the control group, HFFD group and HFFD + LYC group (LYC, 0.03% w/w, mixed into high-fat diet) for 10 weeks. RESULTS: The results of the Y-maze task and Morris water maze tests demonstrated that LYC attenuated HFFD-induced memory loss. Moreover, LYC suppressed HFFD-elicited synaptic dysfunction and increased the expressions of SNAP-25 and PSD-95. Furthermore, LYC ameliorated insulin resistance, lipid metabolism dysfunction and inflammatory responses in the mouse brain and liver. LYC also prevente.d intestinal barrier integrity damages and decreased the level of circulating LPS. CONCLUSIONS: These results demonstrated that LYC ameliorated HFFD-induced cognitive impairments in a mouse model by improving insulin resistance, lipid metabolism dysfunction and inflammatory responses in the gut-liver-brain axis. These findings indicate that LYC might be a nutritional strategy for western diet-induced dysfunction of the central nervous system.

RESUMEN

Fission product yields are key infrastructure data for nuclear applications in many aspects. It is a challenge both experimentally and theoretically to obtain accurate and complete energy-dependent fission yields. We apply the Bayesian neural network (BNN) approach to learn existing fission yields and predict unknowns with uncertainty quantification. We demonstrated that the BNN is particularly useful for evaluations of fission yields when incomplete experimental data are available. The BNN evaluation results are quite satisfactory on distribution positions and energy dependencies of fission yields.

RESUMEN

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) is a key mitochondrial enzyme in the metabolism of aldehydes and may have beneficial cardiovascular effects for conditions such as cardiac hypertrophy, heart failure, myocardial I/R injury, reperfusion, arrhythmia, coronary heart disease and atherosclerosis. In this study we investigated the role of ALDH2 in the progression of atherosclerosis and the underlying mechanisms, with a focus on endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. A clinical study was performed in 248 patients with coronary heart disease. The patients were divided into two groups according to their ALDH2 genotype. Baseline clinical characteristics and coronary angiography were recorded, and the coronary artery Gensini score was calculated. Serum levels of 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (4-HNE) were detected. The clinical study revealed that the mutant ALDH2 genotype was an independent risk factor for coronary heart disease. ALDH2 gene polymorphism is closely associated with atherosclerosis and the severity of coronary artery stenosis. Serum levels of 4-HNE were significantly higher in patients with the mutant ALDH2 genotype than in patients with the wild-type ALDH2 genotype. As an in vitro model of atherosclerosis, rat smooth muscle cells (SMCs) were treated with oxygenized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL), which significantly elevated the levels of ER markers glucose-regulated protein78 (GRP78), protein kinase R-like ER kinase (PERK), phosphorylated eukaryotic translation initiation factor α subunit (p-eIF2α), activating transcription factor-4 (ATF-4), CEBP homologous protein (CHOP) and 4-HNE in the cells. All the ox-LDL-induced responses were significantly attenuated in the presence of Alda-1 (an ALDH2 activating agent), and accentuated in the presence of daidzin (an ALDH2 inhibitor). Furthermore, pretreatment with ALDH2 activator Alda-1 significantly decreased ox-LDL-induced apoptosis. Similarly, overexpression of ALDH2 protected SMCs against ox-LDL-induced ER stress as well as ER stress-induced apoptosis. These findings suggest that ALDH2 may slow the progression of atherosclerosis via the attenuation of ER stress and apoptosis in smooth muscle cells.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and major depressive disorder (MDD) are likely to be caused by multiple susceptibility genes, each with small effects in increasing the risk of illness. Identifying DNA variants associated with schizophrenia and MDD is a crucial step in understanding the pathophysiology of these disorders. AIMS: To investigate whether the SP4 gene plays a significant role in schizophrenia or MDD in the Han Chinese population. METHOD: We focused on nine single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) harbouring the SP4 gene and carried out case-control studies in 1235 patients with schizophrenia, 1045 patients with MDD and 1235 healthy controls recruited from the Han Chinese population. RESULTS: We found that rs40245 was significantly associated with schizophrenia in both allele and genotype distributions (Pallele = 0.0005, Pallele = 0.004 after Bonferroni correction; Pgenotype = 0.0023, Pgenotype = 0.0184 after Bonferroni correction). The rs6461563 SNP was significantly associated with schizophrenia in the allele distributions (Pallele = 0.0033, Pallele = 0.0264 after Bonferroni correction). CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that common risk factors in the SP4 gene are associated with schizophrenia, although not with MDD, in the Han Chinese population.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the genotype of klebsiella pneumonia strains isolated from eldly inpatients by multiple-locus variable-number tandem-repeat analysis. Methods Totally 184 klebsiella pneumonia strains, isolated from eldly inpatients, were collected, and their genome DNA were extracted. The polymorphism of 7 variable-number tandem-repeat locus in the DNA samples was analyzed by multiple primers polymerase chain reaction and capillary electrophoresis. The clustering analysis of genotyping was carried out with the BioNumerics 5.1 software. Results A total of 139 genotypes were identified in 184 klebsiella pneumonia clinical strains, showing obvious genetic polymorphisms. With clustering analysis of genotypes, all the strains were categorized into three gene clusters (genogroups 1,2,and 3). The genogroup 1 was the biggest cluster, containing 93.06% of the isolated strains. Conclusion There was a predominant cluster in the klebsiella pneumonia strains isolated from eldly inpatients in our center, and the major source of klebsiella pneumonia infection remained the nosocomial infection.

RESUMEN

Schizophrenia (SCZ) and major depressive disorder (MDD) are two of the most common and severe mental disorders, the etiologies of which are not yet clearly elucidated. The ACSM1 gene has been identified as a susceptibility gene for SCZ in two previous genome-wide association studies (GWAS). ACSM1 catalyzes the activation of fatty acids and plays an important role in the metabolic system. Some evidence has suggested that ACSM1 contributes to a genetic risk for MDD. The present study aimed to evaluate the common genetic risk of the ACSM1 gene in these two disorders in the Han Chinese population. In total, 1235 patients with SCZ, 1045 patients with MDD and 1235 control subjects of Chinese origin were recruited. Six single nuclear polymorphisms (SNPs) in ACSM1 were genotyped to test their associations with SCZ and MDD. SNP rs163234 was found to be significantly associated with both SCZ (permutated Pallele=1.700×10(-3), OR=1.350 [95% CI=1.152-1.581]) and MDD (permutated Pallele=4.800×10(-3), OR=1.329 [95% CI=1.127-1.567]). SNP rs433598 showed a strong association with SCZ (permutated Pallele=4.300×10(-3), OR=1.303 [95% CI=1.117-1.520]). Haplotype analysis of the blocks containing the two positive markers also revealed a significant association. This is the first study to assess the possible association of the ACSM1 gene with a genetic susceptibility for MDD. Our data are the first to suggest a positive association of the ACSM1 gene with a genetic susceptibility for SCZ and MDD in the Han Chinese population.

RESUMEN

Cadherin-7 (CDH7) gene encodes a calcium dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein. Gene loci of cadherins family have been supposed to be involved in the pathogenesis of psychiatric disorders. Recent genome-wide association study also demonstrated that CDH7 was significant associated with bipolar disorder. Due to the fact that the same genetic risk factor can be shared by different kinds of psychiatric disorders, we examined whether CDH7 is also associated with major depressive disorder (MDD) in this study, with a large Han Chinese sample set. We carried out a 2-stage case-control study to examine the association between CDH7 and MDD in the Han Chinese population. Ten tag SNPs were genotyped using Taqman technology in 1,045 MDD patients and 1,520 healthy controls. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms with significance were additionally genotyped in another independent sample set with 576 MDD cases and 576 healthy controls. Among ten genotyped SNPs, rs1444067 and rs12605720 was found to be significantly associated with MDD (rs1444067: P(allele) = 0.00571, OR 0.830, 95 % CI 0.728-0.947; rs12605720: P(allele) = 0.00321, OR 1.245, 95 % CI 1.076-1.441). We successfully replicated these two SNPs association with independent sample sets (rs1444067: P(allele) = 0.00518; rs12605720: P(allele) = 0.0227). Finally we have combined these results by a meta-analysis (rs1444067: P(allele) = 0.000174, OR 0.817; rs12605720: P(allele) = 0.000199, OR 1.255). Our results support CDH7 to be a risk factor of MDD in the Han Chinese population. However, further studies with more markers and independent samples were suggested to validate our findings.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Refractive errors and high myopia are the most common ocular disorders, and both of them are leading causes of blindness in the world. Recently, genetic association studies in European and Japanese population identified that common genetic variations located in 15q14 and 15q25 were associated with high myopia. To validate whether the same variations conferred risk to high myopia in the Han Chinese population, we genotyped 1,461 individuals (940 controls and 521 cases samples) recruited of Han Chinese origin. RESULT: We found rs8027411 in 15q25 (P = 0.012 after correction, OR = 0.78) was significantly associated with high myopia but rs634990 in 15q14 (P = 0.54 after correction), OR = 0.88) was not. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings supported that 15q25 is a susceptibility locus for high myopia, and gene RASGRF1 was possible to play a role in the pathology of high myopia.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The study was to investigate the association between urinary cadmium with cardiac infarction/injury score (CIIS) and subclinical myocardial injury (SC-MI) in the general population without cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). METHODS: In this large-scale cross-sectional study, we enrolled 4492 individuals without CVDs and CKD from the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Logistic regression models, linear regression models, subgroup analyses, and restricted cubic spline (RCS) were performed to assess the association between urinary cadmium with CIIS and SC-MI. RESULTS: Participants with SC-MI had higher levels of urinary cadmium compared with those without SC-MI (P < 0.001). In multivariate regression analyses adjusting for all confounding variables, higher levels of urinary cadmium were strongly associated not only with higher risk of SC-MI but also with higher CIIS (P < 0.05). Further subgroup analyses showed that the association between urinary cadmium and SC-MI remained significant in the subgroups of ≥ 50 years, men, smokers, and those without diabetes or hypertension (P < 0.05). Additionally, RCS analysis showed that after adjusting for all confounding factors, urinary cadmium was linearly and positively associated with CIIS and SC-MI (P overall < 0.05, P for nonlinearity > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Urinary cadmium was linearly and positively associated with CIIS and SC-MI in the general population without CVDs and CKD.

RESUMEN

A fully-sampled two-dimensional (2D) matrix array ultrasonic transducer is essential for fast and accurate three-dimensional (3D) volumetric ultrasound imaging. However, these arrays, usually consisting of thousands of elements, not only face challenges of poor performance and complex wiring due to high-density elements and small element sizes but also put high requirements for electronic systems. Current commercially available fully-sampled matrix arrays, dividing the aperture into four fixed sub-apertures to reduce system channels through multiplexing are widely used. However, the fixed sub-aperture configuration limits imaging flexibility and the gaps between sub-apertures lead to reduced imaging quality. In this study, we propose a high-performance multiplexed matrix array by the design of 1-3 piezocomposite and gapless sub-aperture configuration, as well as optimized matching layer materials. Furthermore, we introduce a sub-aperture volumetric imaging method based on the designed matrix array, enabling high-quality and flexible 3D ultrasound imaging with a low-cost 256-channel system. The influence of imaging parameters, including the number of sub-apertures and steering angle on imaging quality was investigated by simulation, in vitro and in vivo imaging experiments. The fabricated matrix array has a center frequency of 3.4 MHz and a -6 dB bandwidth of above 70%. The proposed sub-aperture volumetric imaging method demonstrated a 10% improvement in spatial resolution, a 19% increase in signal-to-noise ratio, and a 57.7% increase in contrast-to-noise ratio compared with the fixed sub-aperture array imaging method. This study provides a new strategy for high-quality volumetric ultrasound imaging with a low-cost system.
